You know that's one subject you can't say to much about. Yep, and after that
I'll come to the porch to sit and talk, then I think I'll go home take a

To all you Mayberrians going to Mayberry Days, be sure you have plenty of
gas before leaving. You gauge maybe on F when really on E. Stop by the gas
station and I fill your car up for the trip. I'll check you tires, wash your
windows. Remember air and water is free. Even the smiles cost nothing. Sorry
about the gas though, but it is a small price to pay. Just be glad your gas
doesn't run on Pepto-Bismol. Think what that would cost a gallon.

to go fix a pooter that was acting all obtuse and ever'thang, so I went and
got it and brought it to the lab to bench test. In the meantime, the same
user called the helpdesk and put in another workorder request that the monitor
wouldn't work since the pooter was taken. And they were serious! And to think,
I thought all of those DUH stories by customer support folks were made up.
I finally encountered one! The boys at the lab here got a real hoot out of

Hey ever'body! My assumption -- please correct me if I'm wrong -- is that
our good friend Frank was not able to find a place to park the old Front

accurate description of how this particular site came to be? In any event,

Well, Howdeeee! My deepest thanks to those who emailed me and let me know
that the Porch has found a new home! Your messages went to my AOL address,
which I don't check very often, but tonight I did, and there was the good
news. I mostly use the same screen name, only @airmail.net. Ollie,
you're the cats, for setting this up. I had about decided our beloved porch
was gone for good. It's so good to hear all this friendly conversation, and
to see old friends again. Sugarplum will be thrilled when I tell her. (heehee)
Honestly, sometimes I do think she understands every word I say. I almost
forget that she's of the canine persuasion. Things have been a bit difficult
lately, have been in the process of getting my dad moved into a retirement
residence. Not a nursing home, it's independent living, but meals are provided,
apartment is cleaned weekly, activities going on all the time, etc. One minute
he's glad he decided to go, the next he's very depressed - kind of an emotional
roller coaster for both of us. I think it may improve a bit after we finally
get his house emptied out and leased. Right now, he keeps wanting to go back
over there every day, which is wearing me out, with working night shifts,
full time and all. Anyway, the porch is back and all I can say is HOORAY!
You all have a great Mayberry day - my Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

TV becomes my buddy. It really gets my goat when I see "The Andy Griffith
Show" there on the cable menu in all its glory on some channel or other (mostly
TBS) and when I go there, what do I find? An infomercial! Happens all the

To anyone interested in buying the book Barney
Fife and Other Characters I Have Known:
I bought this book about a year ago now and I must say I was really disappointed
with it in more ways than one! If youre planning to buy this book I
think there are some things you should know about it. First, it has a
lot of profanity in it, I almost didnt make it through it! Secondly,
if youre buying this book to learn more about the character Barney
Fife Im afraid youll be disappointed too! It gives some information
about Barney, but, its more of an autobiography on Mr. Knotts than
TAGS related. I dont mean to be a pessimist, I just dont what
anyone here to be misled. The profanity is what really disappointed me. Even
though, it was very informative about the life of Don Knotts.

Goodmorning all. Hubby and I went to Mt. Airy yesterday. It was a beautiful
day. We didn't get there in time for the parade. They said it was good. Charlene
(Maggie Peterson-Mancuso)Darling was there signing autographs. Basically
all we did was sit together on the lawn of The Andy Griffith Playhouse with
Opie, Emma, Jelsik, Emmett and Martha, Nice, Real Nice Mary Grace and Mr.
Foley, and Jennie and Fred Boone. I saw Idelle Bushey and Gilly for a moment
and Elinora and Orville from a distance, Rafe and his new bride from a distance,
met Therapetic and mother-figure's wife, and saw Maudie from a distance.
We didn't stay for the Professor Brower's lecture, intended too, but I was
bushed. Opie did a great job with the auction. Bless his heart, he was really
working hard. It was a wonderful day. For those of you who can't go, I wish
you could. Tom, I know the money situation, we didn't spend anything except
for gas and food. Have a good Sabbath! Miss Ellie "It's big ! Awh, big aint

hey, #215 (is that you, opie taylor from miss crump's?) i didn't hardly
even notice any profanity......... i guess that tells you something about
me! lol. no seriously, i think what profanity that was there was probably
even watered down..... if you think about it: all them big stars in
hollywood......... i mean, steve allen, jack benny, uncle milty....
but, altho i'm
glad i got it and read it, the book tends to leave me wanting to hear more
(details), especially about TAGS. and the title is misleading: i wanted him
to go into detail about barney and what makes him tick. one thing i liked
tho, is when don knotts said that when ange got tickled at something, he
would sometimes run around the whole place laughing and stuff. i got a sudden
image of "Lonesome Rhoads" (ange's character from "a face in the crowd" )
there for a sec. go figgure.
leon,
thanks for the tune you sent: me and verleen were facinated by it. it was
the first time that we had heard it. BTW i can't access that news server
for some reason......... i hope the baby is doing well! little robert is
around 15 months now...... amazing! i remember when he was born and i posted
the whole story on the porch. seems like a lifetime ago.
yesterday, i
thought i'd try something different to cook for verleen. so i made up this
dish, kind of a take off on something i had in this eye-talian place downtown.
i made a red sauce with plenty of herbs and onions and wine and garlic. then,
i seared some yellow and green peppers and mushrooms and threw them in there.
(actually that by itself would make a pretty good pasta sauce). then i let
that cook for a great long while at a simmer. then, i got some chickin breasts,
seasoned them with salt and pepper and seared them in olive erl until they
were a nice, somewhat crispy brown. then i covered them in the pan with that
same sauce i was telling you about and let THEM cook for a great long while
till the meat breaks down and is tender. then, i cooked some penne pasta,
and tossed it with (in a hot pan) some garlic, olive erl and fresh oregano.
and there you go. it actually didn't turn out so great LOL! so why am i posting
it?? hahaha

dang that was a long post....... anyhow: while on the subject of books: i'm
reading a biography of lefty frizzell, which is great. i mean the documentation
of his life is great, but the writing is a little questionable. i've always
wondered if all those people who write these things think they are "hip"
and "with it" by over-using the word "hillbilly" all the time..... hahaha.
besides, lefty was a texan :-) there is a great photo of him singing a duet
with hank williams at ernest tubb's record shop in nashville. it is very
neat to read the lyrics that he WANTED to sing in "if you've got the money,
i've got the time". racey indeed. especially for the time.

fine. Then when I go to another page, the writing is way yonder too HUGE.

hey to lillian! i'm thinking of setting up a little "voting" mechanism
to vote for features to add/ take away from this place. so i'll add font
size to the top of list. i was actually wondering about that, as i work on
both a pc and a mac, and things turn out a little different depending on
what machine i was working on.
you could try
, in your preferences, telling your browser to "override font settings",
(maybe under appearance) so that your default font settings become this page's
font settings. .............one thing i could do is have the fonts set to
default, meaning , what you have told your browser that you want to see,
instead of defining it for the whole page like i did.......... maybe i'll
just do that :-)

Me and Mrs Cookie Bar had a blast at MD2000! Met a whole mess of people that
I could finally match names and faces. Best group of people I ever met! We
saw the Dillards(thanks again, Opie!!)and the Smoke on the Mountain play, ate
at the Snappy lunch. I had mine w/ just slaw and onions and Lisa went "all
the way!" I bowled in the tourney w/ MaryGrace and Hubby and MPO. I left
my spares at home! We came in 5th(There's a fifth?!--MPO). Rounded off the
weekend w/ breakfast on Sunday at the Golden Corral w/ the group.Oh yeah, the
parade on saturday and the tea party at Mrs. Wileees on Friday were a hoot!
Well, thats a readers digest version. I'll post a little more later. I wanna
let everyone put in their 2 cents. Mr. Cookie Bar

Hey to Allen / Burt, I've reloaded my 'puter more times than I'd like
to admit. Therefore, I've lost most of my contact lists. Send me a quick
note, and lemme know whassup to rbock@click
here. I am glad that someone took the bull by the horns, and got us another
Front Porch to sit on! Thanks Ollie! You are much appreciated, by
so many folks. Rickyb

MCB, it was nice to meet you and Mrs. Cookie Bar. Forgive me if I looked
taken back at MD's when I met you two, but I know you got a couple of little
cookie bars, but you two looked like kids yourself. Or maybe I'm just getting
old. It was so nice to see everyone. Emma brought a blanket and a bunch of
us sat down and visited. I think my favorite year yet! Goodnight sweet friends.

It was nice meeting you too,Miss Ellie! Sorry we took off so fast.Fred Boone
suggested if we wanted to hit the Snappy Lunch and get seated in our lifetime,we
should high tail it down there. If I knew you guys were gonna sit and talk,
I woulda stayed. I missed a few fun events this year because it was our first
time and we elected to go back to the motel and sleep. Next year, we'll do
better! Mr. Cookie Bar
