January 23, 2023 - Msg 118656: Eeeek! Thanks for the note, MDC, at least now I'm pretty sure it's not my computer doing that. With all the weird things it has been doing lately, I couldn't be sure. That ridiculous fake Microsoft bomb hit again over the weekend, disabled the computer completely. At least, I now know that I can just shut the computer down completely, leave it for a few hours, and the thing gives up and releases its hold. If I could just get my skinny little fingers around its neck....

Well, I'll get off of here and let Floyd work his magic. Blessings, friends. Keep looking up! --Romeena

January 24, 2023 - Msg 118658: Good morning, porch! It's raining and cold at 42°, and I just realized that my sprinklers are set to run at 6 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. today. Obviously, they ran in the rain at 6 a.m., but I went out and put them on rain delay so they won't do it again this evening. Grrr. I hate to waste costly water like that, but I didn't know rain was expected. Oh well. At least they won't run again until Saturday morning, because they only run on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and if it's still looking rainy, I'll just stop them again.

I wonder what prompts a person to do something stupid like that mess of repetitious entries above. How old do you figure that idiot to be? Twelve, maybe? Got to be a kid, I can't imagine an adult doing that. Come to think of it, I can't even think of a kid that would do that. Well, maybe one. Not related, fortunately.

I'm loving this rain! It's a slow, steady drizzle, and from the way the sky looks, it might just keep it up all day! That would be lovely! It's the kind of rain that soaks in and doesn't run off, it's too slow, but it's steady enough to really do some good. Thank you, Lord!

It's a good day for cookie-baking, and I just might do that. I've got everything I need. I always have a couple of pounds of butter, an extra bag of flour and sugar, and eggs ($$) and anything else that cookies might require on hand for just such a day as this. Maybe I'll make a pan of Scottish shortbread. Love that stuff, and I have a great recipe for it. Or -- I might put some chopped pecans in the dough and turn it into Texas shortbread! Yum! I always have a bag of fresh shelled pecans. I buy five one-pound bags of them every November and freeze them. A good friend sells them for her college sorority from years ago, and they're fresh off the trees. Now and then I'll grab a handful from a bag and just eat them. So good! Show me a Texan who doesn't like pecans, and I'll show you an imposter!

Well, better get busy. I'm not poking my nose out of this house today, so maybe I'll get started on putting the Christmas stuff away. Or maybe not. I'm still enjoying it! Blessings, friends. Keep looking up! --Romeena

Hey GF, you getting any snow these days?
It is so funny in my area. Our high the past two days was 49 and 50,
and man did the coats come out of 'storage!' It was so strange to
see sweaters, pt coats, fur collars, etc. People just wanted to put
them on i guess. It even hit 32 the past two nights! Love it! :)
BOO would be dancing a jig! haha
RO--I thought your sprinkler control box was in your garage? Maybe I missed
the memo on that. ha No rain here lately, but nice and cold for sure.
Floyd says it was SQL, but he could have said XYZ! har. I'm pretty dense
in that department.
So RO, do you say "pe-CANS" or "pe-CONS" ? :)
ASA, are you looking in at all? Hope things are ok with you. Please check in

January 25, 2023 - Msg 118667: Good morning all. I have a few minutes so I thought I better check in.

As MDC has mentioned I am dealing with some serious health issues and will be dealing with it for several months. So prayers and good thoughts are very much appreciated. My Doctor feels what I am dealing with is very treatable, so I am hoping he is right.

I will try to check in more frequently as things unfold.

Love you guys and prayers for you all.

Had you on my mind and thought I'd pop onto the porch on the chance that there'd be some mention of how you're doing- so sorry about your health issues but that is really good to hear the positive words from your doctor. You take good care of yourself, friend and know that we'll be praying for you. We love you too,Asa.

MDC, let me just nip your pecan question right in the bud ( even though you directed it to Ro)- it's PEE-CAN!

Y'all take care and remember to act like somebody!

January 27, 2023 - Msg 118674: Possum, down here in Texas we say "puh-con".

Just wanted to stop by and thank you all for your many prayers for my family. It looks like we are finally making progress with the kids. Sean is liking his new job as a janitor at a government facility. It is a whole different atmosphere than he has ever worked in and he works with pilots and professionals who are very positive and compliment him on the work he is doing and his work ethic, which is just what he needed to build his self esteem, which was so low. He is assigned one floor to clean that has four bathrooms, offices, showers, a break room. It is doable although a little hard right now since he is out of shape. This job should help him get in better shape. I think the best part is that he will be working very autonomously so wont have the anxiety of having someone micromanage him. He is a good worker and doesnt need that kind of stress. His health coverage starts on Feb 1st, which is a relief to me. The pay starts at 16 an hour, which isnt great but most people who start in his position move up to tool room or something and make a better wage. Anyway, just wanted to fill you in and thank you for caring and praying. Looks like we finally have him where he belongs (I hope and pray).

Erin continues to improve. She saw a very good psychiatrist in Corpus Christi who is older and has much experience. Erin liked her and I did too. The doctor did a urine drug screen on Erin and it was clean, so that helped put my doubts to rest. She didnt put Erin on a bunch of meds, either, which I appreciated, but she just adjusted the med Erin was already on and wants to see her in a month to evaluate. Erin is at work on time every time she is scheduled and her boss told her this week that she is proud of the work she is doing. She is going to be taking her college entrance exam soon! The thing I would much appreciate you prayers about is the very toxic, alcoholic girlfriend in San Antonio that causese her so much stress. For some reason Erin just cant let go of the relationship yet but I hope as she continues to mature she will be able. I am hoping going to school and meeting a different caliber of people will help.

The weather here has been so great! Cool and dry which I love so much. If only we could get a little snow...heehee.

Prayers continue for Asa and I know God is working on his behalf. Prayers for peace and strength for Debbie and Asa. Much love to them.

Better get up and finish my coffee. I have been trying to get this one cup finished for hours. I seem to be developing adult ADHD in my old age! Haha.

Love to all,
Boo

January 27, 2023 - Msg 118675: Good morning, porch! ASA, thank you so much for checking in. We all love you, and are very concerned about you, and praying for you. Also, as Boo said, we are just a phone call away. You are very important to us!

Yes, Floyd, what on earth is SQL? MDC and I want to know! The word "sequel" comes to mind, but I don't what that would mean either. Geek talk is just over my head, apparently. So - "dextrokyphoscoliosis" to you, and no fair looking it up!

Possum, I think I should tell you (and anyone else who is mis-informed) that a PEE-CAN to most Texans (probably ALL native Texans) would be a small coffee can with a snap-on lid, which is kept in a car belonging to a family with small boys. (We tried an old mayonnaise jar, but it broke, and that wasn't pleasant.) We Texans are not responsible for the odd abuses of the name of our state nut! In Texas, by native Texans, it is PUH-CON! Pronounce it any other way, and people will look at you funny! They might even glance at your car's license plate, just to see where you came from! (heehee) As for the pecans themselves, we grow some wonderful ones. Big old Texas giant papershells. There's a commercial grove over the other side of Ft. Worth, and the pecans are about 2" long, with shells so delicate that you can hold two in your hand and squeeze them together, and the shells will crack off almost clean. They are so gooood! Believe it or not, I have one child (won't say which one) who doesn't like pecans! We think that one was switched at the hospital.

Floyd, I'm reading your weather report up there, and I see -47 degrees. Did you really mean negative 47, as in 47 below zero? I'm pretty sure you didn't, since you said it's raining. Rain in negative 47 degrees would be called sleet, or something else, not sure what, but I wouldn't want to be out in it!

Well, guess I can quit being "picky" and get busy around here. Bright sun, light breeze, and 60°. Blessings, friends, and keep looking up! --Romeena

Hello all. It looks like the pecan thing is going to be like

Boo, I'm glad that things are going better at home. I think of poor

turn his life around! Hang in there, we are all praying, God is with us. :)
But, a word to the wise about college. Some (actually, many) these days
can be pretty wild. I would suggest a smaller Christian college. Just IMHO.)

BTW, today was my follow-up appt regarding my eyes. I have been using
an eye drop, and I also started bilberry. Normal pressure range is
between 12 and 21, but in November, my left eye was at 32, and right was 24.
Today, my left was 13 and right was 15!! The doc was very impressed, and I am
very happy. Will see him again in a month. Thank you Jesus!

Possum and Spot, good to see you back on the porch. Please set for a spell
when ya can.
ASA, like GF said, so good to hear that word "treatable!" Prayers
continue for you and yours!

RO, Had a good laugh at some of your pecan comments! ha Back in the day on Route 66
and other old two lane roads, my dad would pull off onto the gravel shoulder,
then 'I have to go' boy would stand between the open front door and open back door,
do his business, and off we'd go!
Those were the days!

I saw the 'Barney runs for sheriff' ep tonight. Not one of my favs because of the 'tension'
between Barney and Andy. But one thing I did notice is the 'changing scenery' outside
the side window. Sometimes its the Feed and Grain store, tonight it was trees and
the church windows. Same with ouside the front door. The buildings would change.
I wonder why they did that? :)

Keep warm and well,
MDC

January 28, 2023 - Msg 118678: Hey Porch,

Just a quick drop in as my household has been battling COVID for about three and a half weeks now. We're all but 100%. I, myself, just had a nagging low grade fever, diminished appetite, low energy and a cough that showed up late. My wife had a low grade fever for just a few days with a mucus cough and low energy. My 93 year old father is mending from a low fever, mucus cough and appetite that is coming back now.
Prayers and my best to all of you needing them right now, Asa and wife, MDC, Boo and her household.

January 28, 2023 - Msg 118680: Good afternoon, porch! Well, I did it again. Had a nice long post just about finished, and suddenly, I apparently hit some unknown key, and poof! The whole thing was gone. That happens fairly often, and I have never figured out what triggers it. Sure is annoying, though. OK, here goes. Maybe I can recall most of it.

ASA, thank you for stopping by. We understand, and appreciate it when you feel up to a visit. Thank you especially for sharing your doctor's reassuring comment - "very treatable." Doctors don't offer that comment unless they mean it, so that's music to my ears, and to Boo's as well, I'm sure. Hang in there, my good friend. Update us when you can, and know that prayers continue.

Boo, what great news about Sean and Erin. Sean has been working so hard to find a job he enjoys, that pays decently, and yes, has room for growth. His current job seems to be the answer. By the way, the head of the Environmental Services department at the hospital where I worked for 35 years, was a woman who started out with mops, dusters and cleaning rags. She advanced through the ranks, and when I retired she was still there, boss lady of the entire EVS department.

And then there's Erin! Hooray for her! Sounds like she has finally found the "handle" on things, and is getting her life in order. As for the "girlfriend", she's stuck in a habit she can't or chooses not to control, and doesn't want to walk the road to oblivion alone, so she's hanging onto Erin with catclaws. It is to Erin's credit that she feels sorry for her and doesn't want to leave her to fight it alone, but she must, and I think she's beginning to realize that. Or has realized it. I'm guessing you're going to see an entirely new Erin very soon.

John Masters, I'm so sorry your family has been hit with Covid. I hope everyone is on the mend, and doing well. It's a miserable virus, and why some recover so quickly, and others take longer, I don't know. Prayers continue!

Possum, no matter how you pronounce "pecan", we still love you, and you will be understood, because we've heard them all! We'll try not to laugh, but you must forgive us if we smile a bit. Oh, and if you hear a native Texan refer to "un nogal" or "los nogales", they're talking about pecans, just in Spanish. Most native Texans speak at least a smattering of Spanish, a few words anyway. I'm by no means fluent, but I could survive in Mexico. I'm working on it!

MDC, I agree with you on the college thing. The total garbage that's being ladeled out at our colleges today is chilling. Even our beloved Baylor, and especially University of Texas (et al) are churning out some ultra-left thinking, and that's really scary. I have a grandson at UTA. I just pray he's got a firm enough foundation that he won't succumb to the false teachings. I think he does, but praying for him still.

Well, better get busy around here. I'm getting dirty looks from Trinket, she hasn't been in my lap in hours! That's just not the way things are done around here, according to her. Her dream would be a papoose-style carrier, so we would never be separated! Rotten little furkid! But - I gotta love her! Blessings, friends! Keep looking up! --Romeena

January 28, 2023 - Msg 118681: One more thing -- MDC, congrats on the success with your eyes. To which remedy do you give the most credit - the prescribed eye drops or the bilberry? I think I can guess, and you are probably right. I take ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) daily. Not for the same purpose, but it was suggested by my first endocrinologist about 17 years ago, when my diabetes was first diagnosed. He said it would help ward off the complications associated with diabetes - eye problems, nerve dysfunction, etc. I have taken it ever since, my eyes are A-1, no problems, I have no nerve disturbances, no numbness in my feet, or any other problem typical of diabetes. These supplements are no joke, in many cases, they work very well. I have a friend who has been a diabetic for about three years (is very overweight) and is already having a lot of the sequelae of diabetes. I suggested ALA to her, don't know if she takes it or not. I suspect not. Up to her, I guess. --Romeena

January 28, 2023 - Msg 118682: HEY, PORCH! I need some help!! Before Christmas, Ky Girl asked me for Pappa Bear's mailing address so she could send him a Christmas card. I sent it, and figured it was all taken care of, but it was just returned to me, marked "Not deliverable as addressed." If anyone has her address (or any idea as to how to contact her), please let me know. If you don't have my address, say so, and I'll send it to you. January 29, 2023 - Msg 118684: Well, thank you all for the encouragement, as always. We are very excited for Sean for many reasons, including the thought of his paying us back when we had to cover his last car payment. lol He told me, "Mom, the thing I am most excited about is not having to be a burden to you and Dad". He is such a sweet young man. He sees what we have had to go through with his sister and he wants so much to be a help to us. He doesnt realize how much he does for me. What a blessing he is!

Romeena, Erin has done much changing but still cant bring herself to leave the girlfriend for good. I think a big part of it is her love for the little four year old girl, Mari. I dont know what it is going to take but I am just waiting.

Thanks, MDC, but we dont have a christian college around here, except for a small seminary that only has classes on theology out at Texas A&M. If she goes to college, it will be a junior college near here that has no dorms or anything. People go there for a trade or associates degree and there is no monkey business.

Well, got to go get a few things from the store, as painful as it is (rising prices). Hope you all have a pleasant evening.

Oh, and so glad you are doing ok, John Masters. That covid can be so hard to get over, and get this; My cousin John called me last week about his wife Lanna. She had covid, was just getting over it and started hearing voices and having psychotic episodes, paranoid delusions. She has no history of anything like that. They are thinking she is one of the rare individuals that experience psychosis after covid! I had never heard of that before. Scary.

January 29, 2023 - Msg 118685:

OH RO, to answer your question, I took the eye drops each night along with bilberry
for the month of December; then, just to see, i only took bilberry capsules for the month
of January! He wants to see me in another month, so I am only going with bilberry.
For one thing, my ins. plan does not cover that eye drop, and even with Good RX,
it is $200 for a small vial!!! That's crazy!

JM, good to see you, but so sorry about the covid. Do you think it may have only been
the 'regular' flu? Just wondering. I still take A B C D and E daily along with zinc.

RO--you had mentioned my Christmas decorations a while back. Well, I'm working on
some new scenery for this coming Christmas!! I do it now whilst the weather is
pretty cool, then i store it away, and come November, all I have to do is put it up! :)
I love doing that sort of thing. I always thought of being a set designer for plays,
but teaching "got in the way!" ha No problem, I like doing it like this.

January 30, 2023 - Msg 118686: Good afternoon, porch! Brrr! It's 29° outside, and three chilly little squirrels are dashing madly around in my back yard, chasing each other! Good thing they're wearing fur! Anywhere there is open dirt out there in a flowerbed, it's covered with a thin skim of ice, less than 1/4" thick. For whatever reason, the stone pathway and the big slab of stone that is the bridge over the pond is not iced over. I assume it's a bit of leftover heat stored in the stone? Most roofs on the the houses that I can see are wearing just a skim of ice as well. Now, to demonstrate the attitude of Texans toward ice, I just got an email from my church, informing the membership that the church is closing at 2 p.m. and will be closed all day tomorrow. All scheduled activities are canceled until further notice, and we are all encouraged to remain at home wherever possible. Well, they don't have to tell me twice. I'm sure some of the roads, and certainly the bridges are wearing a bit of ice, and I know very well exactly how to drive on ice. One word. DON'T! My Dale taught me that on our first visit to Michigan, on March 11, 1958. We married on March 8, 1958, and finally made it to Michigan on the 11th, so I could meet the rest of his family, the ones who couldn't make it to the wedding. Yes, it was a beautiful spring day in Texas for our wedding, and there was an icy blizzard blowing through the Chicago area and across lower Michigan as we drove through it to get to his parents' home. I had barely even seen a couple of inches of gentle snow at home, and we drove through a blizzard! You can imagine what I was thinking!

MDC, I guess I missed that trick to avoid losing a comment, but it sounds like a good idea. If I can remember to do it, which I didn't this time, I'll try it. What I do now and then, if I think of it, and if there's very much written, is just to highlight and copy what I've written at little intervals. One copy replaces another, but it does involve copying several times as the text grows longer. I just wish I could figure out what I'm hitting that cancels everything!

Now, no fair laughing at the shrinking old person! I was once 5'5 1/2" tall. I am now 5'2". Trust me, it makes a difference. I find myself stretching, trying to reach something on a high shelf, and then realize that I'm the one who put it there. Or - I'm standing at the stove, stirring a big pot, and burn the underside of my wrist as it grazes the top edge of the pot! I never did that when I was taller. And in the grocery stores - MUST they put things in glass jars on the very top shelves in the aisles? For that matter, why do they put ANYTHING on a 7' high shelf? So far, I haven't broken anything, but it's just a matter of time. If it's just one item, I can reach it. However, when they stack them four items deep, I can't reach that one on top, it's 8' up there! I have started not asking a tall shopper for help, instead I search out the manager and ask him, in the hope that he'll figure it out, but so far, he hasn't. Dumbo. Guess I'll have to explain it to him.

MDC, I love your yard decorations! I can't wait to see what you come up with for next year. Or this year? I guess next year is correct. Anyway, it must be fun to have the talent and imagination and skills to be able to create something like that. I can see why you would enjoy doing it.

As for supplements, I take a high-quality multi-vitamin (for women), and also add individual boosters of B-Complex, D, C, Zinc, Fish oil, CoQ10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid. My cardiologist calls me "Timex" and tells me not to change anything I'm doing. He needn't worry about that!

Well, Trinket is standing here trying to look hungry (she's been fed, but she wants a cookie) and I'm a little empty myself - had a glass of buttermilk earlier but that's all. I cooked a small roast in the slow cooker last night, with some petite potatoes, baby carrots and onions and a can of beef broth. (Sounds a bit familiar, doesn't it, MDC.) Just need to thicken that liquid a bit and it should be pretty good. Maybe a bit of oregano in it, too!

By the way, MDC, your description of how you dodge the "lost" postings has answered a question for me. I always wondered just how your posts always go halfway across the screen, and everyone else's goes completely across. Now I understand. Good grief! If I do that, mine will be 3 feet long, top to bottom. Eeek! :)

Blessings, and keep looking up! --Romeena

January 31, 2023 - Msg 118689: MDC...Your post about your Christmas decorations set design got me remembering when we had “Senior Balls” for our Senior residents. It was always a BIG DEAL for them. Every year it was a different theme..We had a Western, Roaring 20’s, Hawaiian, and the last one was a 50’s theme...

I made a Big movie screen with a cut out car (*with drive in Speaker) so they could sit behind and have their pictures made. I did a big “Crusin’ the 50’s” lighted sign with a marquee...I used the little plastic communion cups as light sockets....*Lord I apologize ...

Those were the days!...I always had fun making that stuff on a large scale for those events, mainly it was nice just watching them enjoy themselves again like they use to when they were young...

Nowadays, I have fun making scaled down things for our Mayberry event auctions & raffles....It keeps the creative juices flowing...lol

February 01, 2023 - Msg 118691:

Hi Billy Ray, so sorry about the misery, hope you are feeling better now.
As for the sink, I think I have seen it in other episodes, but one thing
about all those older shows, like Brady Bunch, Beaver, etc., is we never saw
a toilet! Ha. Just like Rob and Laura's separate beds, that was just another
thing that wasn't done. Even the Rifleman's ranch didn't have a outhouse. :)

Tonite's ep was "He buttered her up, and she egged him on." I noticed that it was
written by Art Baer. I wonder if he was related to Max Baer, who played Jethro
on the Beverly Hillbillies.
RO--any chance to try the window cleaner for a second try?
But then again, probably too cold as Woodstock skates around on your
birdbath! ha
How about the book, get to the White House part yet? Yup, folks, my brother
worked in the White House Military Office.
Well, we were suppose to get rain today, but it skirted north of us.
That's life. God bless.
Prayers,

February 01, 2023 - Msg 118692: Good evening porch,. Home from work , siting by the fire (gas logs) so thought I would try to rock for a spell.

Asa :prayers for you as you deal with your health situation. I am glad your Doctor feels it is treatable I will keep you in my prayers.

Boo: congratulations to Sean on his new job. Happy he is doing well and also happy Erin is doing better. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Prayers for Billy Ray, MDC, Romeena, Possum, GF.

They have scheduled Mr. Maude’s 1st knee replacement for
Monday February 13th. We have been busy getting his CT scan and all the other i’s dotted and t’s crossed that have to be taken care of. The surgeon wants to use the robot to get exact measurements so he had the CT scan today. I will keep you
posted. Hopefully, he will do well.

Our weather has been very rainy and cold… no snow in my area which is good.

My cataract surgery is behind me and so far so good.

Guess I will sign off and get ready for bedtime.
Prayers and blessings to all.
Big Maude

February 02, 2023 - Msg 118693:

Hi to Big Maude, good to hear from you! Speaking of prayer, I'll certainly
be praying that all goes well on the 13th. I am glad that your catarat surgery
went ok, and that it is hopefully successful!
In tonight's episode with Newton Monroe they are in front of "Dave's Coffee Shop."
I wonder why that was never mentioned in other eps, like the diner was. Hmmm.
But it is the only ep that I know of where the police radio is missing because
supposedly Newton had broken it.
Oh, BTW BILLY RAY, they DO have the sink showing in Newton's cell in this episode.

I just heard about Cindy Williams (Shirley on LaVerne and Shirley) passing at
age 75. too too young, but may she enjoy her reward in heaven.

I went grocery shopping today, as the first Wed. of the month at Fry's is "senior day"
when we get 10% off almost all items. The only problem tho is the fact that our groceries
are up 13% because of this inflation, so there is really no savings when ya deDUCE
the situation. Actually, I don't really cotton to grocery shopping. I know it has
to be done, and I know it sustains me, so I guess I'm just spoiled. When i think of
what it was like just 70 years ago, or so, with separate meat markets, bakeries, groceries,
etc, we really have it very easy. :)

Well, keep well everyone, God bless,
MDC

February 02, 2023 - Msg 118694: Well, hello porch family, and thanks for the kind words and prayers, as always.

Sean told me today that when his six months probation period is up, there will be a position opening up in the tool shop for 22 dollars and hour and they will begin showing him the ropes now so when the time comes he should easily move up. I think he would really enjoy the tool shop because he has already made two friends there.

I have been dealing with a nasty cold for two days. Folks, it has been really cold here in Texas the past four days, which is very uncommon for us. Thankfully we never lost power but I have had alot of fires in the fireplace and the dogs only go out for a minute and then right back in. lol

Hope you all have a pleasant evening

Boo

February 02, 2023 - Msg 118695: MDC I got a little peek of the sink in Crime Free Mayberry. I think the camera angle matters a lot. Usually, you're looking at Cell 2 from 5 or 6 o'clock, and it's not visible. But get a view from 7 or 8, and thar she is. I saw my co-worker George in Brief Encounter today. And I noticed Sheriff Mitchell in Mt. Pilot has a rifle rack oddly similar to Andy's. Sheer coincidence, I'm sure.

February 03, 2023 - Msg 118696:

Wow, Billy Ray, good noticing about the gun rack!
Speaking of guns, in tonight's ME-TV episode about
Opie at the carnival, any idea why Goober puts a
little spit on the gun site? I always wondered
about that, ha. Another good line is Goober wanting Miss Crump
to check his eyes 'cause she's a teacher!
BOO--so good to hear about Sean, sure hope it works out
for him!
Keep warm.
More later.

February 03, 2023 - Msg 118697: We are finally up into the 40s here so thawing out. Lol. Should be a nice day to play in the yard and throw tennis balls for King after his vet visit. He has another ear infection! Strange because he has ears that stick up and do t ever flop over, he does t swim and is in the house most of the time. I do t get it I watched a documentary recently about dogs and ear infections and the poor dogs suffered so! I want to get King’s cleared up as soon as possible. They can become chronic and dangerous for dogs, even reaching the brain!

February 03, 2023 - Msg 118700: I saw the sink in Cell #2 in Sheriff Barney, so I guess it's one of those subconscious things you don't notice at first, but then can't miss. I think Sigmund Frood used to talk about it. Also interesting was the epilogue, where Andy locks hisself in the cell. I don't believe I ever saw that.

Billy Ray the Retired Postman

February 04, 2023 - Msg 118701: Good afternoon, porch! I've been a little scarce for the last couple of days. This ridiculous weather we've had has kept me snug in my chair, Trinket cuddled in my lap, and not moving any more than I absolutely must. However, today we have bright sunshine, 54° and heading for a high of 60°, ice all gone, and it looks and feels like Texas again.

Lots of positive news on the porch today. Maudie, believe me, you are going to love your "new eyes". Mine were done 16 years ago. I had 20/40 vision all my life, and should have worn glasses, had some but didn't wear them (I hate them). Finally developed cataracts, and my ophthalmologist suggested implants. He did an excellent job, and I was back to 20/20. About a year ago, I noticed a slight blurring in my distance vision. Doc says it won't get worse, and suggested getting the reverse bifocals for my specific needs. I am 83 after all, but can still thread a needle on the first try, so near vision is great. I got the reverse bifocals - clear on the bottom, slight correction across the top. Now I can clearly read the overhead highway markers and don't miss my exits! Got them in clear and sunglasses, so they work in daylight or darkness, whichever applies at the moment.

Billy Ray, I'm sorry you had to deal with Covid, and am thankful it wasn't any worse than it was. Hang in there, buddy!

MDC, I haven't gotten that far yet, in the book. His writing style is really great, and makes me read for details more than I usually do. I have a little speed-reader training, and wish I didn't. That experience was a problem in nursing school. The things we were reading in those courses weren't meant to be skimmed, and I had to force myself to slow down and read for content, not outline. Same with a well-written book. I'll get there eventually, and am enjoying every bit of it. Oh, and no, I haven't tried that window cleaner again. The weather is warming up, it's true, but so far it's nowhere near warm enough to induce me to go outside and get wet! It would take me until next Tuesday to get warm again!

Boo, that's good news about the potential for advancement in his job for Sean. He deserves it, and I'm glad someone is watching. As for Erin, sounds to me like she's teetering on the brink of a total split from the girlfriend. It may take one more big blowup to convince her, but I believe it will come. That girl is poison, and sooner or later Erin will figure it out. Prayers continue.

You know, I can't remember ever seeing a sink in either of the jail cells. I do remember wondering where they shaved and brushed their teeth! Guess I'm just not a very good trained noticer. I'll have to be more observant.

Sure is nice to look out my window and see sunshine. I'm watching the last little traces of ice as it melts off the roof of a house behind mine. The whole back of that house is a straight, solid downward slant, and the ice is just almost gone. Good riddance, in my opinion!

I called David earlier to get his opinion of the air-fryers. I don't have one, but was considering ordering one, and knowing he and Brittany have one, I figured he could give me some good advice. Well, he did better than that. He just kept the conversation going for a few minutes, and then informed me there was one on the way to my house! He ordered one like his, which he loves, and had it sent to me.

Well, guess I'll go scare up something for dinner. I had some apple juice and a handful of Cheetos a couple of hours ago, but need to think about something for dinner/supper/whatever. I'm not actually hungry, but might be by around 6. Oh, I'm getting a laugh out of all those people in the GOLO commercials. Saw one this morning, bragging about losing 35 lbs in "just 4 months!" Whoopee! I lost 75 lbs in about 6 months, and lost 6 more in two weeks recently. I'm now at 119, and loving it. I didn't use anybody's diet, or pay for any products. I just simply quit eating as much. I eat anything I want, whenever I want it, and never feel hungry. I just don't eat as much, and it hasn't cost me a dime. In fact, it has saved me a lot of money. These days, when I eat at a restaurant, I order a to-go box when I order my meal. When it arrives, I put a little less than half in the box and close it up. Then I can comfortably eat what's on my plate. I take the box home, and it makes a perfect dinner that night, or of it was from a dinner, it makes a good lunch the next day. If it needs a little "filler", I just add a couple of crackers or some such. I never eat until I'm stuffed, I quit while still comfortable. It has worked for me.

Eeek! I've written a book - sorry! Blessings, friends. Keep looking up! --Romeena

February 07, 2023 - Msg 118703:

It's a big week at my end of the porch with both the Phoenix Open AND the superbowl
being played within 15 miles of each other! I am sticking near home this week,
and letting all the 'fans' have the roads for a few days. Maybe it's my age, orperhaps something else,
but I'm not really that interested in either one this year.

In tonight's episode about Opie's friend Tex, I noticed in the epilog, that Andy talks about
moving "Barney's car!" I thought Mrs Lesh's car was his first and only. Hmmm.

RO--that was so nice of David! Please let us know how it works. thanks.
Cheetos for dinner, now there's a new trend! haha

Without getting too 'down,' I am quite concerned about this whole china balloon thing.
I think they want to start a war with us, which is scary. I sure hope that is not
the case. Lord Jesus be with us.
God's peace to you. Prayers,

MDC :)

I hope everyone is well and doing ok.
Got a nice letter from Pappabear the other day.
He is doing ok, just dealing with his ailments
that keep cropping up.
Had a busy day today, one of those 'errand' days,
to get things for the house, etc.
Keep hanging in there!

February 09, 2023 - Msg 118706: Good afternoon, porch! Good grief, where is everyone? I just looked back and realized I haven't been here since the 4th, and only MDC and G-F have visited. Personally, I haven't been far from my bed or recliner in those five days, didn't even make it to church. Out of necessity, I did make a grocery store run on Tuesday, and was absolutely worn out and in pain before I got home. Even though I was only using one of the little shopping carts, barely full, I still spent $126 :( and wore myself out. My scoliosis is on the move again, reshaping my rib cage and spine, and the only position of comfort is horizontal, where gravity is taking over the burden of keeping me in fairly straight alignment. It gets pretty uncomfortable when I'm trying to do that voluntarily. Oh well. At least I'm on the green side of the grass! :)

Still waiting for delivery of my air-fryer. Hope it comes today. All I've got on hand to try it with is a package of frozen tater tots! My grandson Landry says, "Nonny, tots out of the air fryer are the best!" We'll see, I guess. If they're edible, I'll get some chicken tenders next, put my buttermilk batter on them, and give them a shot! After so many years of frying them in peanut oil, they're going to have to be pretty darned good to be better than what I've known all my life! We'll see. Should be fun, though - experimenting and then eating the results!
It's sunny and bright outside today, 61 comfortable degrees, and lots of critter traffic.
The squirrels are having a carnival in the back yard, the cute little pests. Still not warm enough outside to lure me back to that window-cleaning thing, MDC, but soon, I think.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle! One of my little bushy-tailed varmints just stopped in the middle of my back yard, dug for a couple of minutes, and came up with a pecan in his mouth! They DO remember where they bury things! At least now and then, anyway. He is now sitting in the cottonwood tree, cracking and eating that pecan! At least that's one that Eddie won't have to dig up. You do know, I hope, that once a sprouted pecan has 6" above the ground, you cannot pull it up, it must be dug out. They're even peskier than the squirrel that planted them.

Well, guess I'll go check the porch for my air fryer. Hope it's there, those tater tots sound pretty good. Blessings, friends. Keep looking up. --Romeena
