July 19, 2020 - Msg 114917:

Good afternoon all. Good Sabbath to you.
All goes well here. I still try my best
to just 'rest' on Sunday afternoons, just as the Lord 'rested.' When I was working, my Sunday afternoons were a little busier, but never did any
big projects. We usually have a roast in the crock pot or something
similar that does not require a lot of preparation. Picture me peeling an apple! ha (Tho I have never actually done that!) ha again.
RO--so your church has 'amemimies?' Ernest T would like that!
Regarding what you said, what I often think about is what if one of the
aborted little ones was to have been the one who would find a cancer cure, or even now, a covid vaccine, etc. So sad. In this case, what hath MAN wrought?!
RO and BOO--I was watching Day Tripper last night, and the host mentioned how Texas got it's name from the Caddo Indian word 'teyshas" meaning friend. Pretty interesting.
BOO I'm glad you are doing better. I hope you are finding some solace
in the Holy Spirit. Even in the OT it mentions persons such as Daniel who spoke under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
JOHN, turn off the 'news' my friend! :)
Our Gospel lesson today at church was, in fact, about the weeds being sown by the Devil amongst the wheat, and even tho it seems like the weeds are taking over, they shall receive their just punishment.
GF--I hope the meet-up went well. Floyd posted a lot of photos on FB,
and he said that the threatening rains even stayed away! Cool! :)
Prayers,
MDC

Floyd, thanks for the updated link. However, once again, I am still having the same trouble. The home page loads normally. However, when I click on the "see more photos" link or click on any of the few photos that I can see, I am prompted to log in to facebook. And since I don't have a Facebook account (for security reasons), I can't view any of your additional photos. Whenever you post a link, don't log in or clear your cache when you test it. I want to see those additional photos.

from Poor Horatio

July 20, 2020 - Msg 114921: Good morning, porch! Floyd, thanks for the link to the album. It was nice to see the pictures of you and Mrs. Floyd. Brings back memories of the cruises, and the fun we had there. Remember the woman in the can-of-biscuits dress? Hahaha!

PH, I'm sorry you're having a problem accessing it. I just clicked on the link and it opened right up, and yet, you're having problems. I wonder what causes that??

The pictures are great. Beautiful country, looks like a delightful place to live. The Andy Griffith Playhouse is so pretty, lovely gardens around it, and it appears to be very lovingly maintained. I wish I could attend a meet-up some day, but that's not likely to happen. So the albums and such are very much appreciated.

I made some wonderful peach ice cream yesterday. I had been thinking about doing it, so had a half pint of whipping cream, and a quart of half 'n half on hand. I've got a little Cuisinart freezer that makes a quart and a half of ice cream, and doesn't need ice and salt to freeze it. You freeze the little tub instead, pour the mixture in and hook it up to the motor thingy, and away it goes. In about 20 minutes, you have soft-serve ice cream. I like it a little firmer than that, so it goes into a bowl with a lid, and into the freezer for a little while. I don't use a recipe, just beat about four egg yolks, some sugar, a blurp of vanilla and the creams and beat it up smooth. A friend had given me some overly-sweet homemade peach preserves, so I just cut back on the sugar that went in, and put some (a lot) of the preserves in, and it made some pretty darn decent peach ice cream!

Who remembers making ice cream in an old wooden freezer, usually a White Mountain brand, hand-cranked, and it made a gallon? Just about everyone, I'll bet. That's one of the stories that Charlotte Tucker published when I wrote it up. Those times are some of my favorite childhood memories. Those old freezers made some wonderful ice cream along with the memories, better than the little gadget I've got now, but I couldn't handle that big old heavy White Mountain by myself, and the little electric one does a decent job. Also, there's no salty slush to be disposed of.

Well, guess I'd better go feed Trinket. She's giving me her "hey, remember me?" look right now. Sweet little thing, she is turning out to be a real winner. As I've said, she's a wart and a pestilence, but as Dud Wash said, "a pestilence will find you" and I'm glad this one found me. She's a keeper. Blessings to all - stay safe! --Romeena

July 20, 2020 - Msg 114922: Good morning, Porch!

Boy, you all would've seen something last night at my home. We got some dark, marble swirled, puffy, ominous clouds that looked like end of days! We got some t-storms that fired up out of nowhere, but not much came of them. They were mostly towards Springfield, Mo. and Lake of the Ozarks.

I cant see the photos either. I dont have Facebook so I guess I am out of luck too.

Romeena - Cant let my wife see your post. She'll be looking you up to partake in your peach ice cream! I remember homemade ice cream back when I was a youngin'. That was about 48 years ago.

I noticed Asa is absent. I sure hope he's doing OK with what he's dealing with. Peace be with his family.

Ok, folks...the day is callin'. I dont want to answer it, but I guess it's best I do. Y'all take care. Stay safe and have a great day!

John Masters

July 20, 2020 - Msg 114923: Yes Romeena, it appears that both John Masters and I cannot see the additional photos. And both of us do not have Facebook accounts. So Floyd needs to tweek his Facebook page to allow people like us to view those photos.
Also, I don't remember our family ever trying to make homemade ice cream. Maybe that was because we had a Dairy Queen nearby.

Finally, I have some sad news to report. My wife's mother passed away two days ago. And what makes it worse is that her mother lived in Iran. And it gets complicated because my wife cannot attend the funeral. My wife has both a Canadian and Iranian passport. Iran only recognizes their own passport. But since my wife was married before, she needs to get "permission" from her ex-husband in order to use the Iranian passport. We had visited the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa (the Washington D.C. of Canada) three times trying to get this issue resolved. But we ran out of time because Canada and Iran got involved in a major disagreement and Iran was forced to close their embassy. Today is the funeral and my wife will be the only family member not present. I ask you folks for prayers to ease her suffering. Thank you.

from Poor Horatio

July 20, 2020 - Msg 114924: Oh, Poor Horatio! I am so sorry to hear of your wife's situation. I'm sorry her mother has passed, and so very sorry your wife cannot attend. I know something of her grief. When my son passed a year and a half ago, I was at that time just physically not able to make the trip to Florida. My doctor didn't forbid it, but he made it clear that he thought it would be very unwise. I didn't want to get out there and have a cardiac or respiratory event, thereby causing everyone else a lot of trouble and concern. So I stayed home and did not attend his memorial. My daughter took loads of pictures, my son's wife stayed in touch with me and made me feel a part of things, but I didn't get to actually be there. It bothers me still. Please tell your wife that I will be praying for her today and in days to come, for peace of mind and comfort for her soul. Blessings! --Romeena

Just a quick hello tonight, but I most certainly want to send my condolences to
both Boo and Poor Horatio. These are tough times indeed, and it is
sometimes hard to deal with it all. As I have tried to say in the past, please try your best to keep the faith, and to call upon the Lord.

PH, Facebook can be a pretty tough nut to crack. They really want to get people signed up, so you may have to just realize that you
wont see the pics without signing up. Also, once on, if you don't 'log out' each time, it keeps your account 'on' even when you're off.
Please pray for Portland and these other cities.
I thank God that we have tags to watch to get some endorphins
moving around. :)
Later,

Floyd and MDC, I found some videos over at YouTube that demonstrated multiple methods of how to view hidden Facebook photos. They involve identifying a person's Facebook profile ID and inserting that into a url. But I tried them all without success. Apparently since the videos are two years old, Facebook has taken action to disable those methods. Oh well.

PH and BOO - I extend my condolences as well. Boy, 2020 just stinks doesn't it?

Ya' know, I had a thought....if the Mayor of Portland doesnt want any law enforcement AND he supports the rioters AND the rioters are wanting to break into buildings like Portland's federal courthouse, why doesnt he just go down there with the key and open it for 'em?! Am I missing something here? Am I going out on a limb?!

Ok my friends, time to get the day rollin'. Hope you all have a safe and wonderful day. And amidst all the prayers, pray 2020 gets out of here! Fast!

All is well here however.
A couple tags goings on... tonight on Gomer Pyle USMC,
the 'bookie barber' showed up as a barber for Sgt. Carter! Curious, curious.
And on the Rifleman, Mark went fishing at "Myers Lake." It was the same trees and same clearing that we have seen on tags.
I wonder if Gabby Hayes knows about this. :)
Well, had a busy day, so i will turn in early as the sidewalks are already rolled up here.

JM--no my friend, I don't think you can be 'too much' of a tags fan! IMHO it helps to keep us all sane. Ha Speaking of asplalt at the gas works, I have noticed around here that when everything was closed, the asphalt guys were working re-sealing a lot of parking lots! Even our church repaved the lot. It needed it badly, funds had been given just before march, so it worked out great.
In these times I think of the verse in Isaiah "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who change darkness into light, and light into darkness." (Is. 5:20) We are seeing that right before our eyes, and many do not even realize it.
ASA- how are things with you and Debbie? All well I hope.

Asa - We're thinking of you, buddy. Hang in there and continued prayers!

Boo - Same as Asa. Hang in there. Your strength has been displayed many times here. Hold on with a bulldog grip!

July 25, 2020 - Msg 114962: Good afternoon, porch. Boo, what can I say? I can't imagine Erin having Covid! Bless her little heart! I declare, I think your family is just snakebit here lately. Certainly you will continue to be in my prayers.

Thanks to all of you who prayed for my grandson, Tyler. He's 27, manages a car rental agency, and first realized he might have Covid when he completely lost all sense of taste! Apparently, that's a frequent symptom. Surprisingly, he never ran a fever, but felt like he was taking the flu. Achy, coughing, tired. He saw a doctor, who confirmed Covid, and sent him home. He stayed home in quarantine until this past week, when he went back to work. He says he feels fine, just tires a little more easily than usual. It could have been so much worse. God is good.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I had a nice one - quiet, but so nice. Eloise took me to lunch at our favorite little Mexican restaurant (best cheese enchiladas in town), I received many cards, emails, texts and phone calls. Trinket and I curled up in my chair last night, until we got too warm and had to get up. That little pup generates heat like a furnace, and she feels warm and comforting at first, then begins to just about run me out of the house with the heat she radiates. She gets very annoyed and offended when I finally dump her on the floor and get up to turn on the ceiling fan! I asked Ted about installing a remote on that particular fan, like he did in all the bedrooms. That one in my bedroom is as handy as a pocket on a shirt, let me tell you! I don't have to get out of bed to turn it on or off, and that little process usually happens two or three times a night, at least. Anyway, Ted said the base of the fan in the living area won't accommodate the remote mechanism, I'll need a different fan. That one is older than dirt anyway, and is a very plain-jane, nondescript little thing, though it performs well. So, I'll wait until Lowe's or Home Depot put their fans on sale, probably in October, and I'll get a nice one that will hold a remote.

Tonight promises to be fun. David wants to take me and the family to dinner, probably at Babe's for fried chicken. (Oh, the bliss!) Jerry and Eloise and I (and Trinket) will drive out to David and Brittney's house in Saginaw (a Ft. Worth suburb) and I'll leave Trinket in Diesel's care (?) while we go to dinner. If I know Brittney, she'll have a cake ready. That girl is a gem. Anyway, we'll have a nice evening.

Guess I'd better get a little done around here. Where does all the dust come from? Once again, I need to dust, before weeds sprout on the furniture. Seems to me I just did that! Or, I could curl up with Trinket and take a nap, and do the dusting tomorrow. Mr. Dave told Opie that tomorrow was the best day for doing anything, and he may have just been right! Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Boo, glad to learn Erin may not be ask sick as you once thought. She is in my prayers.

Romeena, also glad to learn about Tyler's recovery. Also glad to learn that your birthday was enjoyable. When I became a senior citizen, I stopped celebrating my own birthdays. Too bad you can't figure out a way to store Trinket's body heat. As for me, I keep a floor standing fan next to my comfy chair where I can reach the controls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2ncJ6ciGyM

John Masters, pappabear once informed us that during his military service in the vietnam war, he was exposed to agent orange, a defoliant. This chemical was used to remove leaves from vegetation thereby making it harder for the enemy to hide. Unfortunately, it was dropped from aircraft in areas where friendly troops were operating. The long term affects of exposure were unknown at that time, but now it is believed to have caused various illnesses and birth defects in humans many years later. I know pappabear has been seeing doctors and having surgeries.

Boo - I just dont know what to say. I am glad Erin is doing better. I cant believe the waves of sorrow and stress you are going through. God love ya'! I know I dont have to say this, but we're all here for you. Stay strong! If you need a good cry, go to yourself and let it loose! My sympathies to your friend!

possum - My condolences for your loss.

PH - My Lord. Well, that would do it. Hate to hear something like that.

Well, folks....another hot one here. This time it IS muggy and yucky. The good news is we have an 80% chance of rain through tomorrow and then the upcoming week cools down. We have mid 80's all week. Wish we were getting some of Boo's storm down there.

Alrighty, gotto go. Wouldnt you know it...we got Walmart grocery pickup yesterday and ordered tomatoes. We got them home and they were moldy. So gotta go back and get replacements. Take care, stay safe and for gosh sake's, try and do something fun and/or happy today! See if we can lift some darkness off this porch!

July 26, 2020 - Msg 114971: Hey folks, let me tell you something I did to get through all this. I went and cleaned off some lawn chair in the garage. Then I've been getting Bomb Pops and different flavored popsicles from the store. Sometimes, like after dinner and when it's cooled a little outside, I'll grab a Bomb Pop or popsicle, grab a lawn chair and go sit in the mouth of the garage or under our car port and enjoy the treat and the outside. If you focus on JUST that. It really helps. Try it. You might like it. ;)

July 26, 2020 - Msg 114972: Good morning, porch! Ditto to all said above! These are trying times, for sure. My Dale once said that he knew how the term "trying times" came about. He said it was because when times get tough, it means we have to keep on "trying." I think he was right.

I was blessed to attend my church's service this morning - on my computer! Our services are being carried over Facebook. The church is open, we can have 100 people in the sanctuary, sitting six feet apart and wearing masks. The rest of us attend via internet. There is even a sidebar on the screen, where we can enter greetings and comments. Thank God for technology. Those who attend in person must register earlier in the week, since seating is limited to 100. The church has asked that those who would be considered high risk (like me) please not try to attend. That's for our own protection, and I honor it. No one would be refused, of course, as long as there were seats available, but out of courtesy to others as well as self-protection, we seniors and those with health factors that would make them high risk, are asked not to sign up. Well, being 81 (now) and a diabetic with cardiac and respiratory issues, I guess that makes me high risk. So I sat here in my nightgown, my dog at my feet, and attended my church's service in total comfort and safety. Not a bad deal, all in all.

The pastor's sermon was from John 8:30-47, a very powerful passage, and he really brought out the truth in it. Just above it is a passage that my former pastor used about ten years ago, and I had some handwritten notes in the margin. (I do that - a LOT!) One of those notes was: "Freedom is not the right to do what you WANT to do. Freedom is the right to do what you OUGHT to do." It occurs to me that the Left is busily trying to take that freedom from us. Actually, the whole world is pretty much doing that. Christianity is the primary target, but other religions are feeling the crush as well. Actually, the Jews have known it forever, and Christianity sprang from Judaism. We had better watch out, or the day can and will come when we can no longer worship openly or, as it is in much of the world, even be caught carrying a Bible where it can be seen. In much of the world, you can be arrested for that, even imprisoned. What is it that non-believers hate so much? What do they fear? I don't understand it.

Well, I shouldn't get started. For today, I was free to sit here and attend a worship service in my own home, thanks to the internet, with my back yard as the backdrop for the screen, sun shining, flowers blooming, and critters busy, going about the business of being critters! (JM, all that was missing was a popsicle!)
There is a 5 ft tall sunflower, with a big bloom just opening, standing in the middle of a flowerbed! Apparently, a bird or squirrel transferred one of the sunflower seeds I put out for the cardinals, and it took root. I'm letting it do its thing, I think it's fun. It looks a bit misplaced where it's standing, but I love it!

The dinner at Babe's last night was fun. Food was wonderful, as always. They do make the best fried chicken in the world. David, the weasel, had informed the wait staff that it was my birthday, so at the end of the meal, all the staff came trooping in, carrying a plate with one of their wonderful biscuits, drizzled with honey, and a birthday candle in the middle. The traditional chicken hat was placed on my head, I was given two little white pointy-end paper cups to clench in my teeth so they looked like a chicken beak, and I was to flap my arms and try to look like a chicken while the staff and the other guests in the room sang "Happy Birthday!" Of course, I complied, and then blew out my little candle. Then we went back to David's house, where Brittney had a delicious cake waiting. Trinket had been a good girl, but Bentley was tired of her and had retreated to a couch where she couldn't reach him. She is a pestilence, for sure. Then Hudson played the piano for us, and that boy can really get music out of that thing. The piano, and his bassoon. He's in the Ft. Worth Youth Philharmonic, and they haven't been able to convene due to Covid. They had annual auditions and rehearsals last week, so they were allowed to gather by instrument groups, to audition. He was again appointed to first chair for the bassoon. Of course, there are only three, but still, it's an honor.

Well, Trinket is trying to get my attention. Apparently, it's lap time, to be followed by nap time, I would imagine. The things I do for that puppy! Blessings, everyone. Stay safe! --Romeena

July 26, 2020 - Msg 114973: Good Sabbath afternoon all.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes for us. Y'all are such a blessing to me.

Possum, so sorry to read about you losing your Aunt. My prayers are with you.
As they are with Boo and Erin. I do pray it is not the Virus Boo. And sorry about the losses of your friends Son. How old was he? Ans prayers for Carrie.

Romeena, I am so glad that Tyler recovered from it ok. And glad you are able to catch your sermons on line. Yes, technology is wonderful.

GF, Sounds like you got PH as a fan buddy. Good deal. Years ago I was considering going into Radio as a DJ. Someone told me I had the perfect face for radio. lol

MDC, We had some of that monsoon rain up this way earlier in the week. Didn't amount to much though. Just set off a few more wild fires. Might get some more this week.

JM, Glad you turned off the news. I know how you get all hivey when you get agitated.

Well I suppose I'll go see what I can rustle up for supper. That durn Romeena has got me hankering fried chicken now, and that ain't in my repertoire yet. Someday maybe.

Thanks again for your prayers. Y'all are in mine.

July 26, 2020 - Msg 114974: I appreciate all of the kindness and prayers extended to me. It means a lot. The service was today and it was lovely. My aunt's only grandchild played a beautiful piece on violin, my cousin gave a wonderful eulogy for her mama and the entire service was the perfect tribute to my beloved aunt. It took place up in Rev's neck of the woods and yes, it was DANG hot,as he used to say! I thought of him when I saw the road signs for Prosperity, which is the tiny country town he was from.Yep, DANG hot,all right- Even sitting under a tent it was intense.

I sat next to a cousin, both of us wearing masks, but the majority of attendees did not have masks on. The funeral attendants, pallbearers, even the immediate family-all maskless. I even spotted a baby and a few children in the crowd of at least 100 people. I just don't get it!! What is so hard about wearing a mask?? There may be other funerals to come as a result of this one if Covid-19 was among us.It is just unreal how so many are not trying to "do right" and nip this virus in the bud,as ol Barn would say.

I pray I stay well, that my family and all in attendance stay safe from Covid, but it is a worrisome thing. And I knew about Boo's friend and her grief and kept thinking how would these people feel if they were in that poor mother's shoes.I just do not get the no mask thing. I realize some can't wear them due to physical or mental reasons- my Laci will not keep one on,and I understand her sensory issues. But was she at the funeral among people? No. I am SO ready for this pandemic to be over with and life get back to some sort of normal again! I know I'm not alone. Let's continue to pray, y'all. Didn't mean to get on my soapbox, but I think y'all understand.

Good to see you on the porch,Asa,and God bless you and your family. God bless all of us.

ASA, glad to see you posting! Hope all is well.
I got your letter and 'enclosure.' thanks so much, much appreciated. :) Yes, we got a good rain a few days ago. It had been 108 days since we had any, so it was very welcomed and refreshing!
Several years ago you mentioned a movie starring Claudette Colbert. Do you recall the name of it by any chance? thanks
I happened across the following link. Y'all can take it with a grain of salt, but I just think it is so sad that anarchists are trying to erase history. Down is up, up is down, good is bad, and bad is good!
I am just keeping my eye on the prize thru all this. Ro, you said it very well above in your post, and I think of the 3rd verse of America the Beautiful ending with "liberty in law!" Liberty, yes, but within the bounderies of legally enacted laws.

Here in AZ we still cannot exercise in a super sanitized health club, but I saw a few minutes on TV today some pro basketball 'in your face'
'un-masked' play taking place! It was live, not a rerun. I think I am
totally done with all pro sports.
JOHN MASTERS...what a great idea, a popsicle! Maybe even a huckelberry smash soda. But here I'll have to sit inside and look out the window.
Too dang hot! ha
All is well here, my prayers continue for all, and it's good to see the porch nice and full. ASA, BTW, you're funny for a retired guy,
and GF you looked great as Diamond Jim! I also liked the 3 convicts. It sure looks like everyone had a great time!
Love,
MDC :)
