Good morning, porch, and Happy Father's Day to all you Dads, Granddads, and Uncles out there who have had a positive influence on the children in your lives. You don't necessarily have to be a father in the biological sense, to be a dad. God bless you all!
I didn't make it to preaching this morning. Had every intention, and was prepared to go, but the weather looks so threatening, I decided to stay home and tune in to our service online. The wonder of technology these days! Still, the online thing, amazing though it is, doesn't really give the same spiritual satisfaction as being in the house of the Lord, surrounded by friends and like-minded folks. I'm glad for it today, though. The sky is the color of mud, the atmosphere is heavy and oppressive. The air will be very still at times, almost spooky, and then strong gusts of wind will blow through. A light rain falls now and then, and the clouds look like they could drown the world if they ever really let go. So, I used what remains of the good sense God gave me, and stayed safely tucked into my home. If Trinket understood, she would be glad I stayed here and didn't leave her alone. She does not like storms.
I remember Sugarplum's reaction to storms. When she was a young dog, she would defy them. She'd stand at the back door and watch, and bark at every clap of thunder. If it was at night, she would stand up on the pillows, stick her nose under the shade on the window over our head and lift it up, and bark at the storm. Then came the day that lightning struck a tree across the street from our house. I was standing in the kitchen, and felt the charge building before it struck. I could literally feel my hair rising. Then came the strike, and I have never heard such a sound in my life. It sounded like the skies had split open. It did split the tree, a huge oak, and divided it in half, clear down to the ground. The tree was destroyed. When the huge strike sounded, The Plum was suddenly in my arms, and I have no memory of how she got there. She shoved her little head under my arm, trembling like a leaf, and if she could have said "I surrender!" she would have done so. From that day forward, when a storm was building, she would disappear into the bathroom and hide behind the commode. I wasn't sure that was a safe place for her to be, so I would get her and hold her in my lap until the storm passed. Now, Toye Starr was never defiant toward a storm, she always just plastered herself as close to me as she could get, and trembled a little. Trinket is still trying to figure it out. She barks, and is nervous, but doesn't hide. If there is loud thunder, she gets close to me, but usually just on the floor by my feet. If I invite her to my lap, she hops up there, but doesn't hide her head. They're all different, for sure.
Well, if the weather clears, I'll be going over to Eloise's for a late lunch/early dinner for Father's Day. They're grilling steaks, baking potatoes, and somebody is bringing a salad. I'm putting together a big bowl of berries and fruit - blueberries, blackberries, halved strawberries and some fresh pineapple cut into bite-size chunks. I'll take a bowl of that sour cream/powdered sugar dressing, and just let everyone serve themselves, with or without the dressing. I may put a drop or two of vanilla in the dressing this time.
Have a great day, everyone! --Romeena

Sunny and beautiful here on my end of the porch. Supposed to get rain, rain and more rain today thru Tuesday, but the percentages are dropping like an anvil.
Just FYI, if you see anything online about the Don Knotts statue in his hometown being removed, it's a joke. A person wrote a satirical article for an online magazine. My wife read a headline of it and thought it was real. I checked it out and it was a joke.

Cloudy day here. No rain forecast. Just a lot of clouds.
Neighbors sure are busy today down in the valley. Tractor, bobcat, atv all running together. Hay being hauled. Lots being doen on their farm!
Ya' know, I got away from the world's trouble last night with some pretty good music. I threw on some Stringbean, Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Roy Acuff, Elvis, Jerry Reed. Boy, that's the GOOD stuff! Can't go wrong hearing Jerry Reed doing "East Bound and Down" from "Smokey and the Bandit!" I am influenced by my grandma and grandpa and my father for liking music like that. I am 52 and I surprise some people by my liking that old of music. Oh, yeah...threw on some Grandpa Jones too. Ernest Tubb hosting the Opry TV show back in the 50's.

MESSAGE:(the sensor got me)Just dropping in to say we are ok. Bruce got sent home from work with a cold because everyone is paranoid, understandably I guess, but it is only a mild head cold. It was good thing he was here, though, because we started day one of home repairs. I think I mentioned that we had a leak in the shower pan of the shower in the kid;s bathroom and it leaked into the sheetrock and even into Sean's bedroom and mine, ruining part of the wood floors. So, insur@nce is paying to fix everything and they just started today cutting out sheet rock and there is a layer of white dust all over the living room. The noise is something else and Poopsie is freaking out and barking like a fiend! I have to keep her locked away and she still barks. I tried to get her to make friends with the workers but no luck so far. She stands with the hair on her back up looking like a javelina and barks her head off. I cant really get onto her because I want her to bark if a stranger comes in the house. It could be a long few weeks. haSean is back to work full time and having some difficulty learning the ropes due to his dyslexia/dyscalculia. He is trying to deal with fractions, counting change and finding the right size bolts, etc. A customer was very rude to him today and used terrible language to tell him to find someone else to help him. I don't know why people have to be so ugly. I could be wrong but I suspect that someone like Sean, who has feminine characteristics and a high voice are sometimes treated badly by other men because it seems he is always treated well by ladies. Sad because Sean has a lot to overcome. I don't question God, but I question how people can be so unfair.
Stay well, friends,

HI ALL, I hope everyone is doing OK. JM, yup, some good country music sure can hit the spot! Remember a while back when we were all talking about the "Convoy" song? :)
BOO--so sorry to hear about the bad customer. As we have all heard on tags, Barney says "Well, we don't just come out and say it like that." Seriously, these are strange times, and some things that I have seen lately are truly
despicable. I so wish that Mayberry was a real place, and we could all live in that special little world, but it's not reality. But the good thing is that Jesus said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light, and that we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. In fact, I heard a neat saying on an old western the other day..."Conscience is God's presence in people." Indeed, that is what's missing today in so many lives.
Your wallboard work reminds me of when we had the 'popcorn' removed from our ceilings a few years ago... a fine layer of white all over, even tho they had
put plastic all over the place. (Like the house on ET!)
ASA-- so neat that you and GF like to tinker. You would have fit right in when Floyd's barber shop became Emmit's Fix -It shop! Y'all could sit around and jaw as you fixed toasters! BTW, I LOVED your tractor story, so cool, thanks for sharing.
The other day I saw on another western the actor who played Mr Wakefield of the TAGS Wakefield/Carter feud ep, but in this western he was playing a Mr Carter in a Carter/Clark feud! Such goings on. :)
I haven't heard from Papabear in a while. Please keep him in your prayers.
You are all in mine.

Good evening, porch. It's late, and I just stopped off at the computer on my way to bed, just to see if everyone is okay.
Boo, my heart aches for Sean. I cannot imagine anyone being so cold and self-centered and rude as to speak to Sean like that. I have on two occasions that I can recall, asked someone to let someone else help me. In one case, the salesman argued with me, when he couldn't find what I had asked for, and told me such a thing didn't exist, when I knew perfectly well it did. The person he sent to replace himself went straight to the part I was seeking. In that case, I told the manager before I left, with the thought in mind that a little correction now might save his job later.
As for the way Sean was treated, perhaps it might make Sean feel better if he can take the initiative. If a customer is getting testy, maybe Sean could just say, "You know, I have dyslexia and sometimes it takes me a while to figure something like this out. It involves the way I process words and numbers. I can tell you're getting annoyed, so how about letting me get you fixed up with another employee. Thank you for your patience." Then he should walk away, and leave the rude person standing there, feeling like two cents waiting for change.
That reminds me of a story - I may have told this before, but I'll do it again. At the hospital one day, I answered a call bell on the desk console, and a woman's voice asked if she could have a cup of coffee. Assuming it was the female patient in that room, I said I'd be right there with it. Then another bell rang, and when I answered it, it was the family in the room with a dying patient, asking for a nurse. I went, and the patient was indeed taking her last breaths (expected), so I stayed with them, and confirmed for them when it was over. That took about twenty minutes. When I left that room, I remembered the coffee, and took a cup to the room. To my surprise, the patient was asleep, and a woman visitor was sitting beside the bed, with her feet propped up on the bed yet, and she began to berate me for taking so long. The coffee was for her! She called me all kinds of lazy, slow, uncaring, etc. I just let her rant until she wound down. Then I apologized, explained that I had been interrupted by the family of a dying patient, and had been in that room. (Normally, we wouldn't mention such details to another patient or visitor, but it was that or slap her, so I told her.) Then I apologized again, for the fact that "no one has shown you where to get coffee, so come with me, and I'll show you." And I took her to the coffee room, showed her all the little amenities, and welcomed her to just help herself when she needed coffee, so that "you won't have to sit and wait for a slow-footed nurse to finally arrive." She thanked me a bit sheepishly, but never apologized for her rudeness.
It always pays to take the high road, and I suspect that Sean does, but it might help him to have rehearsed some ready answers. My mother was a master of the soft slap-down. A cousin once said of her, "You know, be respectful around Aunt Mary, because if you aren't careful, she will tell you off royally. The only thing is, you might not realize until the next day that you've been told off."
That described my mom perfectly. She had a habit of ending a discussion that was about to be an argument. She would simply pause, and say "You could be right", and walk away. No further comment. Note that she didn't agree, she just stated that the other person could be right. Some people took it for agreement, and felt quite proud, but others caught the ambiguity of the statement and knew they had been beaten by a master! My mom was quite a lady.
MDC, I'm curious. Why did you have the popcorn ceiling removed in your house? I know it's all the rage on the fixer-upper shows right now, to remove the popcorn ceilings. However, I have it throughout my house, and I love it. Not only do I like the way it looks, but it's a sound buffer as well. I dare anyone to try to remove it. Whoever buys the house when I'm gone will probably do so, but I can't imagine why. Am I missing something here? It dates the house, of course, but my silver hair dates me, so we match!
Well, I have to go to the eye doc tomorrow, so guess I'd better hit the sack. Trinket is at my feet, heaving heavy sighs, so I think she's ready for bed too. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

"A master of the soft slap-down". I love it. lol Unfortunately, I have always been the type who stands there and thinks of something good to say later when the dust settles. I am either at 1(calm and cool, which is about 98 % of the time) or if I am pushed too far I go straight to 10. I can remember taking a lot from people on the job but then finally breaking and I was not the master of the soft slap-down, if you know what I mean. Seems like with some of the bullies I worked with, that was all they understood and it won me some respect with them, sadly. It was very seldom that I had to get mean, though. Its so unfair that patients and visitors treat nurses like they are there to wait on them. If they only knew what we go through and how very stressed and busy we are. Honestly, I can count on one hand how many times I ever took coffee to anyone in my many years in nursing. I barely had time to drink any myself or even take a lunch break.
MDC, can you believe I finally watched ET for the first time last week? I know what you are talking about when you speak of the plastic. ha

HI ALL! I gotta tell ya, I am just sickened by all the statues and monuments being torn down all over the country. Yesterday in California violent mobs were tearing down statues of Fr. Serra, a priest who helped shelter the indians from the spanish miltary! They tried to pull down Andrew Jackson in Layfyette Park, etc, etc. In fact, I don't know why the military is not stopping this madness. This is no longer 'freedom of expression,' this is criminal property destruction, and all those evildoers should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Plus, in all the videos I've seen, there are very few masks and no physical distancing! And now someone else has called for all statues of Jesus to be taken down. We need to stand up now, and stand up strongly against this pure evil.
There was a 7.4 earthquake in mexico today, and there is the pandemic still across the land. I urge you to read Matthew 24:33. Then read the verses leading up to it. By the use of the image of the fig tree's sprouting as a sign that summer is near, it shows that we WILL KNOW the 'season' when the Second Coming is near by all the things that are suddenly happening! Lord be with us!
BOO- I have been praying for Shoreline recently concerning this virus. Do you happen to know how things are going there?
RO--Our home has gas heat, and also one time the roof leaked. The gas heat left some areas of the ceilings with sooty-like staining, and the ceiling popcorn was also stained where the roof leaked. Also, I'm not sure about yours, but ours would get cobwebs now and then, and trying to clean it would drop the popcorn all over the place. We have not really noticed any difference in our cooling bill or any echoing; but we do have wall to wall carpet, so that helps.
Well, I think I will hit the hay. Keep well my friends,

Good morning, porch! A beautiful day here, after the heavy rain of the last three days. Green, green, green! Just gotta love it!
MDC, I also have gas heat, but have never noticed sootiness on the ceiling. A little dusty residue at times around the vents, but it vacuums away easily. I did have some bad staining in my bedroom ceiling after that big leak a year or two ago, but Ted sprayed it with flat white paint, and it completely covered, looks like new. It was so bad I thought he would have to cut that drywall out and replace it, but he just spray-painted it and you cannot tell where the job was done. It truly looks like new.
As for cobwebs, I think your hot and dry climate may exacerbate the spider problem, as we just don't seem to have many spiders. I find little webs in the windowsills now and then, and sometimes up in the corner by the ceiling in a room, but they vacuum away easily. Also, twice a year I put diatomaceous earth around the foundation outside, and it works. A big problem around these parts would be c@ckroaches. In Florida, they're called palmetto bugs, other areas call them waterbugs, here they're c@ckroaches, also called cucarachas in areas where Spanish language is common. I hate them with a passion, and will not tolerate them AT ALL! I find that the DE around the foundation is great at controlling them. About twice a year, I'll spot one in the house, and always, it's obviously sick, just staggering weakly along. I quickly spray it with my rubbing alcohol spray (no residue to stain the carpet), to further slow him down while I get my swatter. One swat, scoop him up on the swatter, and drop him in a toilet to learn to swim! Nasty things.
Anyway, the point is, that DE really controls them. It also repels termites and other unwanted creepy-crawlies. Fleas hate it, too. It's harmless to vertebrates, especially if you buy the food-grade variety, and can even be used as a flea powder if your dog needs it, but insects run from it. You can get it at any garden center.
One final thing - I change my furnace filter religiously. David's motto is - change it before it needs it. I guess once the residue builds up so it looks like it needs changing, it's already releasing lint and residue into the air. He has harped on that, and made a believer out of me. He will check it when he's here, and change it for me if it's getting close. Otherwise, I'll change it myself. It's easy enough.
Well, I'd better get dressed. Eddie and Tommy will be here to do the yard pretty soon. Also, I may take Tillie to the mechanic today. She needs a water pump, apparently. There's a slow leak, little puddle on the garage floor, and once the "Coolant Level Low" warning light came on. Richie says it's leaking, so I will let him fix it. It's wonderful to have a mechanic you can trust, and I trust Richie. He's a good guy. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Good morning, porch. A beautiful day here, and my back yard is a pretty sight from my window, after Eddie came yesterday and worked his magic. I sent him home with a big bowl of zucchini squash, sauteed with onions in some fried bacon and a little bacon grease, and a can of diced tomatoes cooked in. That's an old favorite recipe, and it's good! Eddie had smelled the onions cooking with the bacon, and asked what was cooking. When I told him it would be zucchini, he commented that he loved zucchini! Naturally, I gave him some to take home.
The house is very quiet right now. Trinket is in a van out on my driveway, having a spa day. Miss Karen will make her beautiful again. Her hair had gotten pretty long, and was beginning to mat in places, in spite of me combing through it every evening. She has a lovely coat, and if I had the skill, the tools, and the patience to spend a couple of hours a day working with her, she would have a gorgeous, floor-sweeping coat. However, I have none of those, and she will never see a show ring anyway, because that's not why I have her. Besides, she has been spayed, and therefore would not be eligible to show. I got her to be my little friend and companion, and because I love all the other qualities about a Maltese. There's no need to wear myself out and torment her with all that excessive grooming. So, puppy cut it is, and we'll both be happy! She's cute as a bug in that fluffy little puppy cut. Maybe not glamorous, but so cute!!!
Charlotte Tucker, it's good to see you on the porch for a change. Don't be a stranger! I know how busy you are, but do take the time to stop and "set a spell" now and then. Oh, and if you're looking for a story with a particular focus, just let me know and I'll try to come up with one.
Papa Bear, you hang in there, honey! We're always glad to hear from you. I like that newspaper story, too. The boys were just doing what Barney had suggested, and followed the example of their elders. Kids often make good little mirrors, but we don't always like what we see when they reflect us.
Well, better get busy around here. Maybe I can get Trinket's toys picked up and put in her toybox, at least for a few minutes. She'll drag them all out again just as soon as Miss Karen brings her back in. Trinket - sweet she is, neat she ain't! Gotta love her!

Couldnt have asked for a better weather day if you had put in an order for it. Just gorgeous.
Romeena - You ever had to deal with a dog with hot spots? My goodness, our oldest one, Howie, got into something and broke out like he has burn marks in patches. We think we have it under control now. He's had allergies for awhile so we have to be REAL careful with what he eats. But, as it happens sometimes, you miss a crumb of human food, he eats it and BAM! broke out again.
MDC - Yeah, this is getting more infuriating by the day. We have thousands and thousands Ernest T. Basses out there! They're all NUTS! There's a BLM group heading for Branson this Saturday and threatening to shut down Highway 76, the heart of the city. They're targeting Dixie Outfitters, the southern themed place that sells a lot of Confederate flag and Dukes of Hazzard merchandise. Curious to see what happens with that and what happens tonight at the Lincoln "free slave" statue in Washington D.C.
Charlotte Tucker - Good to see you again! Romeena's right. Gotta stop in more and set a spell. Grab a rocker and see if you can peel an apple without breaking the skin like Mr. Tucker finally did.
pap bear - How are ya'? Hope you come back more often!
Asa - I noticed the many TAGS people showing up on The Rifleman. Clara excluded since she was a full fledged cast member. Remember the one Rifleman episode when Denver Pyle was the hangman for North Fork and they figured out he murdered that one man. Lucas got him and he went screaming "Don't let 'em hang me, Lucas! Don't let 'em hang me!"
Well, baseball will be back upon us and I think it's a farce and a joke. 60 games? Too much risk involved with this virus! Some players, coaches and managers have come down with it now and they havent even thrown the first pitch! Plus, if you come to the stadium and have a temperature, you go into immediate isolation. How fast do you think managers will be changing lineups on the fly and going to the next pitcher in the rotation?
Ok, that's enough of me, I 'spect. Y'all have a great and safe day. Be careful out there!

Charlotte Tucker, as I live and breathe, so good to see you again. I hope you'll find the time to sit a spell. I think the part of Class Reunion I enjoy the most is how Barney is so worried about the gal he was sweet on (Ramone Wiley wasn't it) being able to contain her emotions when she see's him again. lol And she can't even remember him. And Andy consoling Barney by telling him she was just hiding her feelings. :) Funny stuff.
Papa Bear, so sorry you're having a bad day buddy. Hang in there and get feeling better. Don't you love how Andy, Barney, and Aunt Bee all show up at the landfill under the pretense of finding the newspapers so as to destroy them, but in fact just want to read what the boys had written up. lol
Romeena, I can just visualize L.B. walking into the house and noticing her toys are put away. She's probably saying "hey, who messed up my playroom"! lol And of course will set thing back in order promptly. :)
John, I wonder how the baseball season will go. Hard to say. Same with the NFL this fall although I won't care because I won't be watching. Talk about destroying a game. Oh well.
MDC, Y'all toasty hot these days? I bet you are. We are in the 90's all weekend but then a big cool down on Monday with a high of 70. That will be dandy.
GF, I came across a video yesterday with the title of "How to extract ethanol easily from your fuel". So I watched it. The feller dumped a gallon of water into 10 gallons of fuel and let it set for a few hours to separate. Then drained off the water from the bottom. It looked like to me he didn't even get his full gallon he put I back out. lol In reading the comments, there were several commenters claiming to be engineers who said that he needed to wait days, not hours for total separation to happen, and that to be really effective the procedure should be done several times. HA, Quick and easy huh? I think I'll just find a station that sells real gasoline and call it good. Amen Bro?
Well I woke up with the misery in my back for some reason this morning so I am taking it easy. Can't imagine what I did sleeping to make it hurt. Maybe I was riding a bike in my sleep like Ollie. Who knows.
Prayers for all for good things.

I thought you might enjoy this. I know it helps me to sit and watch sometimes. I am putting a link to some weather cams across the Ozarks. They are pretty good cams that have some great scenery. Lake of the Ozarks at the water, Table Rock Lake, part of the Branson strip, etc. I love the Lake of the Ozarks cam. Really nice to watch the people mill around and the boats go by. One warning, the LOTO cam can be real jittery when you first bring it up. You might have to blow it up full screen to watch it.

One day runs into the next and I have to look at the calendar to find what day it is, yes a calendar. Some other things that are seldom used these days, watches, telephones with a cord attached, phone book and VCR's. I gave myself a home haircut, looks good if I have to say so myself. Things are just starting to open up here but we still have to be careful. Sarah

Good afternoon, porch! I had a chatty post all ready to go this morning, and somehow hit that mysterious and as-yet-unidentified key near the bottom of the keyboard, and poof! It was all gone. So, I guess I'll try again.
Sarah, you are not alone, though I would never attempt to cut my own hair. I would look like moths had attacked me. I use the calendar on my keyboard, but also have one hanging on the wall near my desk. As you might imagine, it has pictures of Maltese dogs on each month's page. I have a desk phone with the curly cord, too, and it's my favorite phone. I hate talking on the cell phone. I can't prop it on my shoulder when my hands are busy, like I do with my desk phone, and you techies out there, don't try to talk me into a Bluetooth. My son has tried, and it didn't work. Also, I don't like the speaker phone thingy, either. Hey, I'm older than dirt, and I can be old-fashioned if I want to! If I can see the advantage in a new thing, and find it enjoyable and helpful to use, I'm on it like white on rice, but if I find it more trouble to use than it's worth, it's history. I'm not fond of a GPS, either.
Asa, you were right. Within ten minutes of coming back in the house, Trinket had removed most of her toys from the box and placed them all around the room, and there are about thirty of them. I give up!! I just watch where I step.
John Masters, I agree. I almost never watch the news, and on the rare occasions when I do, I abandon it about halfway through. I never dreamed our media could become so biased, and so blind. They are puppets in the hands of the Loony Left, and it's sickening. Encouragingly enough, if what I hear from my black friends is true, and represents the black community in general, there is a big shock coming for the Left in November. They have discovered the poison in the Kool Aid. Please, God!
Tillie has been in the shop since Wednesday. She needed a new water pump, and something done to the catalytic converter. Gonna be a lot of $$, but she's worth it, and it beats the socks off of a huge car payment every month. She's been paid for now, for nine years! In that time, I've spent about $8,000 in repairs, and about $1200 of that was due to that miserable rat that chewed some vital and hard to replace wiring.
I don't think I told you, but one of my grandsons - Tyler, Heather's oldest son - has had COVID. He started feeling bad, like he had the flu, and then he ate a very spicy taco and realized he could not taste it at all. He went to the doctor, tested positive for COVID, but didn't warrant hospitalization. He never ran a temperature at all, but that trait runs in our family. His mother could have a raging ear infection and never run a fever. The doc sent him home with supportive meds, and told him to quarantine for two weeks. He's fine now. The weasel didn't even let his mother know about it until he had seen the doc and was recovering nicely. He's 27, lives in
Austin, and manages an Enterprise car rental agency. Very self-sufficient. I'm just grateful to God that he's recovered and is okay.
Blessings, friends! Stay home if you can, wear your mask, wash your hands, and keep your distance! Oh, and if you suddenly find your food has no taste, get thee to a doctor!! --Romeena

Yes! I totally agree, Romeena! *Wear your mask, wash your hands and keep your distance!
*unless you are involved in riots and mayhem.
Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Howdy Porch! Asa, so funny about riding a bike in your sleep cause I woke up today with what felt like a pulled muscle in my leg and wondered what on earth I may have done in my sleep. Maybe I was riding a bike! lol I have been getting more exercise so that is probably what is going on with me.
Charlotte Tucker! I missed you! please come by more often and fill us in on how things are going with you.
Romeena, I would do exactly the same thing, as far as Trinket and the grooming. No need to make things harder than they need to be and from what you have said about Trinket, I think she would be miserable holding still for all that grooming. I know my Poopsie would hate it. She doesn't need much trimming, though. The groomer trims up some of her stray wirey hairs on her snout but I kind of like them there.
Glad you grandson is ok, Romeena. I think he was being merciful to keep it from his mom. Its so hard not to worry about your kids.
Well, not much news around here. Sean seems to be doing better on the job and is learning slowly. Erin has been doing a part time babysitting job for two boys who are old enough to fend for themselves a lot of the time but just need supervision. Starting today, Bruce will be working from home most of the time again. We have had a real spike in corona cases in Corpus Christi.
Hope you all have a pleasant evening.
Blessings,
Boo

Good evening. Hope you are all well. I got my blood test results today from my Medicare wellness exam earlier in the week, and everything was great except my A1C. It was a 7.1, whereas it has always been around 5.5 or so. Glucose was at 101, and it is usually around 95. Funny, when the doc called me today, he said it could be from not exercising and stress. (I had told him Tuesday about my gym being closed, and about my yahoo SIL and her gambling revival!) So, now that that has been pretty much solved and she's back on the wagon and going to GA meetings, and now that the gym has re-opened, he said we'll try a re-test in a few weeks.
Boo--sounds like things are going pretty good at home again. I have enjoyed your recent FB posts.
JOHN, hang in there my friend. Sometimes ya just gotta take a deep breath. :)
RO--good to hear that Tillie will again be running like a purring kitten. At least you didnt have to stay over in the garage on the ironing board! ha BTW, I enjoyed reading your recent hospital stories. Some time back you mentioned that you had worked at Parkland. Were you there by any chance the day that JFK died?
Also, so glad that Tyler made it thru the covid.
Tonight I watched a western with Fess Parker starring in it. I hadn't seen him in a movie for a long time.
Happy Trails! :)

Good morning, porch! Papa bear, I love your jokes! I'm going to share them with my friends at church. They're all about my age, and will completely understand the humor. What a blessing those folks are to me, just like the porch. We've all known each other at least thirty years, and some for forty-five years. What memories we share! Some of us have camped together, gone tubing on the Frio River together, seen each other through illnesses and loss, just forged bonds that are so precious. The common bond is our faith, and our church. I don't know what I'd have done without them, at times in my life. Some are now facing some of the things that struck me earlier in life - like losing my husband - and I hope I can be the support for them that they were for me.
Boo, Trinket has no problem with the holding still thing, for grooming. She just simply doesn't do it! She's a constantly moving, wiggling, struggling target! She's impossible! I assume the groomer has a proper table and some restraining devices in that van of hers, because she manages to do a nice job, and in less than an hour. Trinket looks adorable, and seems to like Miss Karen just fine, not fearful of her or anything. The little brat could be a beautiful, show-quality dog (except she's a little big for her breed), but that's not why I got her. I got another Maltese because of their amazingly sweet nature, their humor and playfulness, and the love they seem to hold for everyone. She did not disappoint! She's a wart and a pestilence, as I have said so often, but she's so sweet and innocent and loving, that I would forgive her for anything. Even as I'm scolding her for shredding yet another piece of mail, or pulling a bloom off one of my orchids and leaving it in a little chewed pile on the living room carpet, I just want to pick her up and hug her. She's like a beloved, naughty child.
MDC, I never worked at Parkland. I did have a rotation there during nursing school, and saw enough to know that I really didn't want to work there. Their ER is just scary. All night long, a never-ending succession of drunks, druggies, gunshot wounds, stabbings, horrendous car wrecks, loonies, whatever. So, no, I wasn't there when JFK was brought in, and I'm glad I wasn't. That would have been the stuff of nightmares for a long time. I did work in our ER at the hospital where I spent my entire 35-year career, but not as a permanent staffer. I only worked there occasionally, to fill a staff shortage. Five years of those thirty-five years were spent as a "float" nurse, which meant that I wasn't assigned to any particular unit. I just showed up, checked in with Nursing Service, and went wherever they sent me. One night it might be the recovery room, or the ER, or the nursery! Some nights I was a rover, just wore a beeper and went wherever a unit or a particular nurse was needing help. If someone was overwhelmed, too much to do, I would go and start an IV for them, or change a dressing, assist a doc with a spinal tap, respond to a code, whatever. It was interesting, could be fun, and I enjoyed it a lot. That's what I was doing when my husband passed, and after I was off for six weeks, (trying to stop crying,) I wanted something quiet for a while, and they put me in the mom-baby unit. It was a good fit, and I stayed there until my back surgery took me out for good, and I retired at age 74.
Well, guess I'd better get dressed. Eddie just called to tell me he's on his way. He's planning to make it a weeding day, and I'm glad. Several of the flowerbeds are brimming with weeds, yet again. Miserable things. It was no accident, that God equated sin with weeds. Both are insidious, persistent, look nice at first and then burst into a raging problem, and will overwhelm you if you're not diligent in removing them from your yard, or your life. Yes, weeds can look nice at first. I've got a particularly nasty one that has invaded my yard. It comes up like hair on a dog, so thick, with pretty little soft green pointy leaves, and tiny purple flowers. Looks like a nice little ground cover. Then it starts getting long and lanky, climbs up and over everything, burrows in and around the existing plantings. Try to pull it up, and it just breaks off at ground level, and puts out several new branches at the break-off point. The only hope is to dig it out. And then there's nutgrass. I assume you all have experience with that little scourge. I've learned a way to deal with it though, that works pretty well. As you probably know, it sends out underground runners, and will pop up at about six-inch intervals along those runners. Try to pull it up, and you break the runners, so they just keep going. If you will water the area well, then very gently pull up one of the stronger plants, you can just pull the whole string out of the ground, for several feet. Five or six plants will come up with it, and you have eliminated a whole bunch of nutgrass. Pull very gently, or it will break off. Again, it's like sin. Reminds me of the police tracing a drug ring, and eventually rounding them all up at once!
Well, enough of that! Blessings, friends. Stay home, stay safe, wash your hands, wear your mask. --Romeena
