I got to thinking about Psalm 23 where it says (in most translations) that we walk THROUGH the dark valley. That means that there is 'another end' to it, and the God is with us through it all. Well, as ASA alluded to before the sweep, I guess I shouldn't flaunt my bible knowledge too much. ha Have a good day all,

Good afternoon, porch! Just barely - it's 12:14 here in Texas. Gray and cloudy here, had a little bit of drizzle earlier, will probably get more, maybe even some sure 'nuff rain. My yard is six inches high and rising, dandelions everywhere, lots of things should be blooming but are not, due to lack of sunshine. There's a big mound of sundrops in one end of the biggest raised bed. That thing is at least a yard square, and when it blooms, it's just a giant yellow pillow out there, so pretty. But does it have any flowers on it? Noooo! No sunshine! Meantime, the weeds march on. It's too muddy for Eddie to get back there and pull weeds, so I guess we just wait until the sun shines again, as it will, eventually.
I have no idea what our deserted streets and empty stores look like. I haven't been off my own property in at least two weeks. Thank heaven for a well-stocked pantry. David called yesterday, though, and told me to make up a list of anything and everything I thought I might need and email it to him. He was going to be at their big Kroger superstore at 6 a.m., and would get as much as he could from my list. I'm sure Brittney has given him a list as well. He had already gotten a gallon of bleach somewhere for me, because he heard me saying that I would need bleach before this all ended. So I'm staying in, sheltering in place, as they say. I've got plenty here to eat, and David will be replenishing my stock sometime today. This too shall pass.
It calls to mind the things Eloise and I saw in Mongolia, on those two trips we made over there. It's a different world. We went into the "supermarket" to try to find some bug spray. The flies in our "hotel" room were making us crazy. No a/c, so we had to leave some windows open, and of course there were no screens. We killed one, and immediately ten more came to his funeral! Mosquitoes were just an occasional problem, but oh, the flies! Anyway, when we entered the store, I decided to buy some fresh fruit (I love fruit) and wandered into the produce area. This was a little corner of the store, about the size of my smallest bedroom. There was no fruit except one lonely bag of shriveled apples. For veggies, there were two tomatoes, a head of wilted lettuce, and some squash. That was it. The cashier informed us that we were lucky. "You here on good day. Have little bit. Often there is nothing."
Children hung out in doorways around our so-called hotel. They knew that the dry air would make us thirsty, and we would have bottled water. We did, but didn't know what to do with the empties. My interpreter told me to put it down on the sidewalk. I did, reluctantly. I didn't want to be a litterbug when I was a guest in the country! We walked in a little way, and she told me to turn around look at my bottle. I did, and it was gone. It had been snatched by one of the doorway children. She told me that the children gather in the area when there are guests in the hotel, because if they can collect 30 of our water bottles, they can exchange them for a loaf of bread. Folks, we are so blessed.
Hang in there, hold on tight, and pray. We're going to be okay! --Romeena

I listen to Floyd's podcast all of the time. Thank you!
Everyone take care! It will all work out well. Remember that The Lord doesn't want us to live in fear. That's what I am trying to focus on. I'm still going to my high rise and though I'm slightly nervous I am very thankful that I have a job. When I hear someone cough I worry about it for a few minutes then pray and ask Him to give me peace and to keep me healthy!
Blessings to you and yours,

I'm sorry but I am going to need your prayers again. I think I mentioned that Sean had to have a CT scan to rule out appendicitis last Friday and nothing showed on the scan. He continued to have pain in his navel through the weekend and then today he started to bleed from the navel. now it is just a small amount of bloody fluid but he has some other gastrointestinal issues going on too. He went back to his doctor and the doctor said it wasn't any kind of infection, which I had figured out because there is no infected drainage or fever. I think he developed some sort of hernia while unloading some pallets a week ago but nothing showed on the CT. The doc is sending him to a surgeon but I am concerned about waiting on that and this whole virus mess just complicates things. Any thoughts, Romeena? No sign of infection, pain in his naval, some stomach upset. His has a good deal of adipose on his abdomen which makes it hard to see a bulging but there seems to be something I can see in his navel. The doc said he couldn't visualize it well enough. Anyway, this is tough right now and I just need to be able to put things in God's hands and not worry. I just don't want to end up running to the ER if something worse happens.
Thanks everyone,
Boo

Lucy, good to see you posting again. Yes, I agree that we should not fear this, but just use common sense. I had a cardiologist appt today.
All went well, extra precautions were taken, he went over my echo, and things are good, lungs are clear, valves working good too. Thank you Jesus. :)
Our neighbors here in the 'hood have been tremendous, grocery shelves being stocked by the Az guard, and many people out biking and walking.
My wife loves to read, and not having a tablet, and with libraries closed, we found one of those little front yard libraries, leave a book, take a book deal. Sprayed the book down with lysol. :)
PAPAbear, remember when you could actually change the spark plugs on your '63 Chevy? Now I can't even FIND the spark plugs on my nissan truck! ha
RO, my cousin's daughter was a peace corps worker in Togo, Africa, for the past year and a half; and she has now been flown back to the USA. She tells the same sort of stories of the 'bathrooms' there, a hole in the ground, no seat, no toilet paper at all, just leaves, etc. Yikes!
Even in this current situation we are indeed very blessed here!

Goooood morning, porch!! The sun is shining, the sky is an incredible shade of blue, and one tiny white cloud is floating by, just as sassy as you please! Oh, what a beautiful day! I had almost forgotten what sunshine looked like, and you know what? It's really pretty!! If it stays like this through tomorrow, that big mound of sundrops I mentioned earlier will be in full, enthusiastic bloom, and will just be a huge yellow ball in the end of that flowerbed. Remarkable little things, those sundrops.
Boo, quite honestly, I've never even heard of anyone bleeding from the navel, let alone have an idea what might cause it. However, infection would be my first suspicion. What's the lay of the land? Does he have an "innie" or an "outie?" I would suspect an innie, and from what you said about adipose tissue, I'd guess a pretty deep innie. So, a really good "deep cleaning" would be my first recommendation. Gently, gently, until you know what lies below! Sorry, but that's about all I have to suggest. I wish a strong and persistent wind would rise up and blow away the little black cloud that seems determined to hang over your homestead! You are in my prayers.
Whoo-hoo! Eddie just called, he will be here tomorrow to get some work done in this yard. It looks like a jungle out there. It's still too wet in places to get much done, but by tomorrow it should be okay. Dry enough to walk on, but wet enough underneath to release the weed roots easily, and that's what needs to be done. That will be Eddie and Tommy's job. I will be in the house, trying to make some order out of the tangled abundance of orchids on the benches in the sunroom. Those things are blooming like mad, all reaching for the windows and growing through and over each other. I need to clean them out of old dead stuff, apply fresh new soil, and turn them around to face the room, braced up with new supports to show them to their best advantage. They are just so pretty! They've been blooming for several weeks now, and will bloom for at least another two months. You get a lot of bang for your buck with orchids.
Well, guess I'll go feed Trinket, and perhaps myself. I stopped off here in the office "just for a minute" and have been here over an hour. Trinket is patiently waiting in her little cuddlebed under my desk. I'm a little hungry too, and might just eat a little something. Mostly I want a big glass of apple juice, and I just happen to have some! Blessings, friends. Stay in, stay safe, and this will all pass eventually. --Romeena

Ro, infection was my first thought, too, but doesn't seem to be any abnormal drainage or odor, no redness, no anything that would suggest it. The doc said it wasn't infected, too, so..I am now thinking that it may have been a cyst that ruptured so I am telling him to keep it clean and doc told him to apply antibiotic ointment twice a day. I think that is probably a wasted but we will follow orders I guess. I called the surgeon's office today and was told that they are seeing patients on a case by case basis and that the doc would review Sean's information and decide if he will see him tomorrow. One of the things that confuse me is that he is also having intestinal and stomach issues but I am thinking maybe that is something he ate or nerves. Thanks for your input. Frankly, the dr didn't even know what the problem was and said something like, "I haven't seen this in years and I need to google it." lol At least he is humble and honest.

It sounds like things here have calmed down a bit in the grocery stores, with .P. being the exception. So hopefully that will also calm down.

Good afternoon, porch! It's beautiful here, too. Temp is 77°, heading for the 80s, and beautiful sunshine. He's mowing at Mr. White's house, down the street, should be up here in an hour or so. That gives me time to run to the bank for cash. There's no way he's going to finish this yard today, but at least he can get it started. I have never seen so many weeds in all my borned days! Some of them are tasseling out and making seeds! The birds are loving that.
Boo, I'll bet you're on the right track with the cyst thing. I might pour a little H2O2 in there and let it do its thing, too.
I think I'm beginning to get cabin fever. I haven't been off my own property in at least two weeks, and I'm tired of my own company. Trinket helps, but her opinions are somewhat limited, so I can't get a good discussion going with her. I do need to make that bank run, and that will be a high point of the day for me.
The critter traffic is high out there, they're all just celebrating the break in the rain, and the warmth and sunshine today. Somewhere a woodp#cker is busy (how DOES he do that without getting a terrible headache?), my favorite old tree lizard is running up and down the sycamore tree, snapping at a bug now and then. Six squirrels are chasing each other everywhere, and a mockingbird is singing his little heart out, trying to convince his ladylove that he's the one for her! It's a never-ending show out there, and sometimes I just sit here and watch for hours. Nature just fascinates me.
Well, better get moving. I need to go to the bank and get back before Eddie finishes down at Mr. White's. He'll need to get into my garage. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Hey G-F, thanks for hosing down and disinfecting my rocker. It was a still little wet when I sat on it, but then I guess that just means that my clothes will be disinfected, too.
Boo, sorry for and prayers for what you and Sean are going through. I was just reading today about how we need to thank God even through our troubles, even though I know(personally as well) that sometimes that is hard to do. The article spoke of how what Job went through with losing his kids, health, wife, possessions and still he thanked God even though his wife told him to "Curse God and die". Job knew that the devil is the bringer of trouble in our lives and wants us give up and curse God. That's one reason not to.
Another reason is to think of it like what a diamond is. It starts out as just a lump of coal, but then through all the turmoil it goes through and time, it becomes a diamond, which is why God lets us go through times like this, so we will turn to Him and become His diamonds. I am kind of paraphrasing the article but hopefully you know what I mean.
Well, some good news about all this virus junk, is knowing that China has shut down ALL of its temporary hospitals it had made to deal with this virus due to lack of new cases. We arrived late to the game relatively speaking, so we can at least look across the pond to see that there is indeed hope on the horizon, even as we may be going through the turmoil now.
And yes, I have been seeing that the Walmart in our town has been restocking some of the things they were out of, like rice, so hopefully the panic some have felt has died down as well.
G-F, I just watched the bank episode where Barney was "Glen Fording" all over town. I like where he breaks through to the hair dressers and the lady just kind of stares at him in his dress. :-D

His boss told him today that he cant come back to work until the surgeon sees him, though. Maybe its for the best the way things are right now. Good morning, porch (barely)! Sterling, it surely is good to see you! It's been a while. We were about to put out an APB on you. Come around a little more regular-like, you hear?
Another beautiful, sunny day. A few little clouds, but they just add to the beauty. They don't appear to be holding any rain. Temps are in the upper 70s, and I'm lovin' it!
MDC, Tillie was indeed happy to be on the road, and just about a block from home, she turned over to 100,000 miles on the odometer! Sixteen years old, and just now hit 100k. Runs so well, purrs like a kitten, engine is quiet and no rattles in the body - yep, I'm gonna keep her!
At the bank, I used the drive-thru, so didn't have to worry about being in contact with anyone. The only person that's been within five feet of me since this all started is Eddie, my yard man! When he finishes the yard, we always sit at the entrance to the garage and solve the world's problems for a little while, while he cools down and drinks a soda. Eddie has worked for me for 22 years, and he's a good friend. He tells people I'm his "white mama." That would be a good trick, considering that he's nearly 70 himself. He's a good guy. Anyway, he finishes his soda, stacks our chairs where the garage door won't hit them, and goes on his way.
Trinket is a brat. Normally, when she hears a noise anywhere, she barks and goes to investigate. Just now, I heard the mail slot open and close, and heard mail hit the floor. Obviously it had missed the big ceramic urn that sits below it, to catch the mail. Not a peep from Trinket. No, she was very quietly and nonchalantly walking to the front door, knowing full well what she would find. Paper mail on the floor, that she could carry into the living room and shred into confetti. And I do mean confetti. Not a piece any larger than my thumbnail. When she realized I was walking behind her, she tried to block my way, then scurried real fast, trying to beat me to it! Of course I won, and got the mail, and she gave me one of those "daggers" looks. She is just too funny!
Well, guess I'll go scare up a little lunch. Maybe some fruit and a couple of slices of cheese. That sounds pretty good. Round it out with a big glass of tea, and I've got it made. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Good afternoon. Where is everyone? You're supposed to be at home! MDC, thanks for that link to that wonderful song. Longtime favorite of mine.
Not much happening around here. It's cloudy, but I don't think it will rain. (Good grief, I sound like that other Romeena!) Sure is quiet. Can't go anywhere, all church functions are suspended, but services are videoed and on Facebook, as well as on the church website. I've heard some talk of them trying to do a "parking lot" service on Easter Sunday. Not sure how that's going to work, but it should be interesting. I'm pretty sure it will involve everyone having their phones available.
Well, guess I'll go raid the fridge. It's 2 pm and I haven't even gone into the kitchen yet. Trinket and I didn't get up until 9:30 and I've been at this keyboard pretty much ever since, after I got a shower and shampoo done. I've got a ceiling fan right over my head, and with it running slowly, it dries my hair very nicely.
Oh, I see one little yellow bloom on that huge mound of sundrops out back. By tomorrow, the whole thing will be yellow. Such a great plant! It was cheap to buy, it's hardy and disease resistant, and it comes back every year, bigger and better each time. Gotta love it! It definitely loves the sun. No sun, no flowers. You can make it be whatever you want. I've let mine grow into one huge mound, but you can plant several and in the winter, when it's dormant and looks like it's dead, you can prune it into any shape you want - make it into a low border or whatever you want. I may just put a few out front. Hmmm. Yep, think I will!
Blessings, friends! Stay in, stay well! --Romeena

Boo, I'm sad to learn about the medical issue that Sean is experiencing. Check out https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/ss/slideshow-belly-button-problems to see if that might help.
MDC, glad to learn your cardiology workup turned out well.
Romeena, I see you mentioned a pet named Trinket. Did Toy Star pass away?
Over the next few days, I will have time to read more into the archives.

Everyone stay home and stay healthy.
I feel that the next couple of weeks are going to be hard with this virus. I pray that we all stay healthy.

Hello everyone. We are all still well and doing ok. We are getting on each other's nerves just a little but that is to be expected. lol
Hope you are all doing ok. I am praying for you and thinking of you often.
As of tonight, my county is on curfew and lockdown. I got a quick trip to Walmart before the official order was given by the judge. We have several cases of Covid19 a few miles north of us and on the island because of the recent spring breakers, but not much as of yet. Restaurants have their dining rooms closed but are still doing drive through and take out but I am avoiding all of that. Bruce is working from home. Sean is doing better. The surgeon didn't see him because they are only doing emergencies right now but Sean isn't hurting like he was and the bleeding stopped. The nurse I spoke with at the office said the surgeon suspects a hernia but we will have to wait unless he has any symptoms that would suggest an emergency. his boss let him come in for some light duty work today but he said he will probably be closing up the business soon. Sad.
I have been trying to make the best of things and spending a lot of time outdoors on the porch swing or taking walks. We played croquet the other night, then had a movie night with Emily. We made a fire and roasted marshmallows last night and that was fun. The girls had a water gun fight this evening in the front yard. I try to stay away from bad news to keep myself from getting anxious because I know that will only hurt my immune system. I get good sleep, eat well and do deep breathing exercises daily. I had a good prayer time outside this evening and that helps more than anything. I find that I am in better fellowship with Jesus than I have been in a long time. It is a lot like when I was young and didn't go to church yet. It was just Jesus and me spending time together. :)
Hope Asa and Mrs. Asa are doing ok. Check in if you can, buddy.
All of you stay safe and the peace of God keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Thanks for the link, Poor Horatio. Great to see you again!
Love,
Boo

Hello Poor Horatio! I have put out a few APBs for you these past few months, and with no response, I actually feared the worst, BUT, I'm so glad that you have allayed my fears!
Good to see you back in your rocker.
Frankie and Boo--my wife and I have a pretty good game of Monopoly going.
The board has been out for several days now, and we play a bit each day!
We also have dominoes, scrabble, connect 4, chess, cards, trouble, yatsee, clue, and Bible trivia. I helped my brother go for some groceries today. AZ has the national
guard helping to restock shelves. We actually scored some TP today! woohoo! :) Boo- good to hear that Sean is doing better. How is Erin?
Tonight's tags was the one about Malloy. Love it when Barn plays a stool pigeon and says, "I've been called everthing from Chopper to Mad Dog, but
no one has ever called me 'tattletale!'" ha
RO--our services are also being televised, but I really miss seeing everyone,
and receiving Communion. We have been asked to pray in unity each day at noon.
As I understand it, this was done during WWII.
I sure hope the bill that was signed today will help out, but it boggles my mind
where the 2 trillion will come from?
Prayers,
MDC

Hey folks! Good to see you all on the Porch even though we have the restrictions. Can't close down our porch, huh?!
Hey PH and Sterling! It's been awhile! Good to see you!
Getting by here in the Ozarks as we live at the edge of a shallow valley just us and neighbors that are about a half mile away. That's it. Them and us. Otherwise, nothing but land.
Just wanted to drop in and see how you all are. Everyone stay safe!
John Masters
P.s. Since y'all are quoting a few TAGS lines, I gotta quote my all time favorite color TAGS line..."DICK, YOU FORGOT PANSY!"
March 28, 2020 - Msg 114078:
Afternoon all.
John, I can see that scene with Pansy as clear as can be. I was surprised Andy had enough eggs in his fridge to feed that mob. I think my favorite part of that episode is when Andy, a very angry Andy, walks out of the Courthouse after trying to reason with Warren, and picks up a rock and throws it, just to vent off some of that anger, and you hear a window breaking seconds later. lol
Hey PH, Good to see you posting. I hope you are surviving the craziness.
Boo, Thank you for asking about us. We are doing ok. Hunkered down and laying low until things calm down. I miss my Grandkids like mad, and today is Debbie's birthday, so we figured out how to do "Face Time" on our I-pad with them all. It sure was nice to see them. I'm glad Sean's condition seems to have improved somewhat. I think your idea of avoiding the news is excellent. I am doing the same thing. But when I do read about some of the shenanigans some of the politicians were pulling when trying to pass the relief package, Grrrr. I'll hush before I do some damage.
MDC, Sounds like you and the little lady are keeping yourself amused during all this. Good for you, as long as you don't start Fred Booning it all over the place. I was reading an article that said Domestic disturbances was way up. Uh oh.
Is that the episode when Barney says:
"Puddintame, ask me again I'll tell you the same"? HA! I love that line.
GF, What did you spray on PH's rocker? It took the squeaks out also. :)
Romeena, I can just picture you and L.B. racing to get to the mail deposit first. lol
Just got an order of groceries delivered from Walmart. Got most of what we placed, other than TP. And taters. Everything else was there.
Speaking of that I reckon I'll go disinfect all the stuff and put it away. Used to be I didn't enjoy grocery shopping. Was a necessary evil. Today I see it as a blessing and delight. Funny how your thinking can change so fast.

Thanks everyone for the welcome back.
My stepson is working at an essential job. And since he does not have a driver's license, I drive him 15 miles to and from work everyday just so he can avoid taking public transportation and risk exposure. We leave home anywhere between 1am and 5am.
It seems like everyone is doing their best during these troubled times. I am very concerned how this will affect our economy when I learn about the huge amount of financial aid that is being approved. And with President Trump expecting this problem to be under control by Easter, I suspect he means maybe Easter of next year. We here in Canada are experiencing the same problem but on a smaller scale.
MDC, sorry for scaring you by not responding to your APBs. Had I known about them, I would have responded sooner. Romeena, could you please send my email address to MDC.

HI ALL--As you know, I sometimes like to "wax philosophical," and will do that for just a tad bit... PH, your comment about public transportation, and ASA's comment about 180 degree thinking, got ME to thinking: For about the past 20 years or so, our area here has really pushed for public transportation...much govt money spent on greatly enhancing bus routes to the farthest ends of our metro area, and 10 years ago, an extensive light rail system was put in at more than a million dollars per mile! Now, suddenly, within a week's time, both public transportation systems are nearly empty, and just as suddenly, a "one-person per car" set up seems pretty darn good to these same people! In my particular suburb, the 'city fathers' have been narrowing our streets, putting in rail, etc, but I have stood before them at many council meetings telling them that we will always have cars, they may be all electric someday, but a Prius is still a car! Seniors cannot ride bikes here on a scorching July day! Anyway, it is just something that in a weird sort of way, amuses me to see, as they are now saying, "Don't use public transportation unless absolutely necessary!"
Yes RO, you may give my email to PH.
ASA--good to hear the groceries arrived OK.
Our Pastor send out an email to parishioners asking if we could please continue tithing, either thru paypal or dropping envelopes in a lockbox outside the office door. A serious email up to that point, but then he said, "toilet paper will also be accepted!" haha
GOOD SABBATH TO ALL,
MDC

Hi Poor Horatio! I also haven't been posting for a long time. I guess maybe we could be called prodigal porchsters. G-F does a nice job of dusting(and now disinfecting) our rockers, doesn't he?
Glad you are getting to spend some quality time with your family, Boo. Hope things with Sean go well. And now that you mentioned it, a hernia does sound logical as a reason for his problem. Of course, I am not doctor, and I don't even play one on tv.
That sounds peaceful where you live, John Masters. I wish we lived in the country. Not that we live in a big city or anything, but I have always preferred the country to town, even if it is considered small(9000 people, still too big for me). In fact, I was talking to an ex-member of our church, and told her that right about now I wouldn't mind being Amish. They take these things pretty much in stride, with a good deal of family bonds and faith.
Well, better hit the old ironing board(and we don't even have company over). Have a good night all and a Blessed Sunday. God hears our prayers no matter if we are in church or stuck at home, so that is always a good thing.

Happy Sabbath Day Everyone!
How is everyone today? Our household is still doing pretty well. I'm going to head to the grocery store in a few minutes. I'm out of butter and y'all know that is a no-no for a Georgian.
Is there anything y'all are doing in particular to help a person/family/organization? I gave up personal shopping for Lent and have been struggling for many reasons, but mainly because I cannot help any small businesses. I'm looking for other ways to help. Any ideas or charities y'all know that could use some help?
Maybe Homemaker, Me-They, Dixie Belle, Mavis, et al will also be amongst the Prodigal Porchsters to return!
Boo - How's Sean?
Asa - We just watched CBS Sunday Morning and they had Antelope Island in Utah and I wondered if you've ever visited.
Poor Horatio - Good to see you! I don't blame you for driving your stepson. How's Canada?
John Masters - Your place sounds lovely. I live in Atlanta and miss having countryside nearby (I'm from KY.). Spot's a good 30-45 minutes away, which is how far away I have to go to see some nice countryside.
Sterling - I wonder how the Amish are handling this virus and if they would all even know about it.
MDC - We attend a "megachurch" that has an app where you can put your credit card in to an app and they take out our tithe.
I would love to find another church but as long as my husband will attend with me if we go there then that is where I will attend.
We have public transportation. I'd love to say it is wonderful, clean, and efficient, but I cannot.
Romeena - I'm glad that you are staying safe indoors!
Well, the lovely (sarcastic) green pollen has covered all surfaces. We had to turn on our AC and close the windows. I love having windows open so that has made me sad but my allergies are awful so it's necessary.
Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!
Blessings to you and yours
