September 26, 2019 - Msg 112983: Wow! MDC, it sounds like you had a wonderful time. I'm so happy for you! I wish I could go and see it, but it's just not in the cards for me anymore. My doc has said absolutely not. Now, if I had the carry-about O2, I might be able to do it, but I don't want to risk it. If the machine failed, I would be in trouble.

Folks, I don't know what I'm going to do with this little renegade dog that lives with me now. She is just not getting the idea on house-breaking, and I think she just really doesn't care. It's like she's thinking "Oh, I made a mess. No problem, the maid will take care of it." Guess who the maid is? I'm just hoping that she'll eventually get the idea, and then I'm hoping that the carpets can be cleaned acceptably. I'll bet if I walked through these rooms in the dark with a black light, the whole floor would glow. Amazingly, though, there's no odor. And it's not just me, I've asked others and they say they don't detect anything. I do blot up and spot clean the urine spots, and the other transgressions, happily, don't leave any residue, thanks to her dry kibble. I mix it about four to one with a wet food, and it seems to work. (What a conversation! Sorry!)

Well, guess I'll go scare up some lunch. By the way, have any of you tried Dave's "Killer" bread? It contains 21 nuts and seeds, is delicious toasted and a little peanut butter spread on it, or last night, I put some swiss cheese on it and stuck it under the broiler to melt the cheese. Really good! I would imagine that stores across the country are carrying it, and if you try it, I'll bet you'll like it.

Blessings! --Romeena

September 26, 2019 - Msg 112984: Coming to you LIVE from Mayberry Days!....Hot 🔥 Hot here, but who cares 🤷🏼‍♂️...I already talked to Charlene and Johnny Paul Jason and Floyd. A lot of people are already in town and most of the s5uff doesn’t start until tomorrow....

Later Gang got to RUNNOFT to the events...

September 27, 2019 - Msg 112985: Hey GF, I do hope you are having a swell old time. I am envious buddy. Make yourself proud.

Romeena, I will look for that bread. Sounds good. My Wife thinks I am nuts, but I change bread brands a lot. I have not found a good whole wheat bread I care for yet. And for some reason, whole wheat bread really gives me heartburn for some reason. Sorry Trinket is not cooperating in her potty doings. That has to be frustrating.

MDC, Have you adjusted back to the heat of home yet? We are going to have a cold front move in this afternoon they say that will really drop our temps. We have been in the 60's and 70's all week, so it looks like this one will be a game changer. I am starting to see some of the tree's changing color, and a few leaves on the grass.

When I re-shingled, I went with a slightly darker shade of shingle, (I think I mentioned that) and I really like the new look. It really accent's my brick color nicely. Just like a woman when she dye's her hair to a different color changes her looks. lol

Well just got back from my weekly grocery shopping. I bought a few cases of canned foods to re-supply my food storage. The local store is having its annual case lot sale.

I was just reading an article about a couple in California who refused to designate on their new born baby's birth certificate if it was a male or a female. They want to wait a few years and let the child decide. You can't make this stuff up folks. Good grief, I need to quit reading these things. When I do I tend to think we are so done. SMH

I hope you all have a great day, and GF, keep us posted on the doings buddy.

September 27, 2019 - Msg 112986: Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't been around as much but life has been hectic. Been working at the rehab and at the school. This week I got to work in the elementary for the first time with the K-2 graders. Talk about active!..and very cute. They built a new elementary school here and it was my first time to see it. Turns out they have stairs in it that children have to take daily...and they are fairly long and steep. Really stupid idea. Two little ones fell down the stairs the day before I worked. Thankfully, no serious injuries. Why on earth didn't they rethink that decision?! They have one little elevator they you wouldn't be able to cram a whole classful of kids into so they have to take the stairs. Im telling you, little ones aren't like they used to be. They are like jumping beans and not easy to control. Its a daily accident waiting to happen.

I saw your pics on facebook, MDC! Looks like a wonderful time. Cecile looks like a million bucks. She never ages a bit. What's her secret? Oh, you look good, too, but she really looks like she found the fountain of youth or something!

Asa has a bit of a southern drawl? What? How is that possible? Guess from watching so much TAGS.

It is still in the 90s here with the heat index in the 100s. No relief at all, not even at night with the high humidity. Usually we are noticing cooler mornings and evenings by now, but not so far. It stinks. I have been trying to do a little fall decorating, as is my custom, but just cant get into the spirit of the thing when it is so hot outside.

Well, my Erin started her new job as a bagger/ cart pusher or whatever she is going to have to do. She is still in training but is excited at the prospect of making her own money, for sure. I took her to open her first bank account yesterday. I posted a pic of her in her work shirt yesterday for those who go on facebook. She looked quite adorable, if I do say so myself. I was proud of her because she was very nervous and even threw up the first morning but pushed through and went to work on time. I hope she does well. Her starting pay is 9.50 which isn't bad for a first job and the company she is working for has good benefits, grants for students, etc. She went to church again on Sunday so that is progress. I am still concerned with her very codependent relationship with the girl she is dating. Only so much we can do and yesterday she confided some things to me that were very hard to hear but at least she comes to me with concerns. I was telling Sean yesterday that people say that being married is hard work, but its a breeze compared to being a parent. That has been my experience anyway. lol

I'm not working today but have to attend a mandatory meeting. The new boss makes us attend a meeting every payday. I understand the need right now, as changes are being made, but every two weeks will get old if it continues.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Hope to see you guys tomorrow ....G-F

September 28, 2019 - Msg 112990: Good morning, friends! I fell asleep in my chair around 10 p.m., woke up about 12:30 a.m., and am now wide awake at 1:30 a.m. No way can I go back to sleep now, even if I went to bed. This is when I would usually write a story to send to Charlotte Tucker for her magazine, but I sent one just a day or so ago, so my tank is drained for now. I'll get another idea soon, but that doesn't help tonight.

Boo, you have my prayers. That is indeed a difficult path you're on right now. It sounds like Erin is still searching, trying to find her place in the world, and about all you can do is hang on, love her, accept her, and try to gently guide, without pushing. As I said - prayers!

Asa, that story from California is just an example of how confused and twisted the thinking of some people has become. As for determining the gender of their newborn, I would suggest they remove the diaper, consider the physical evidence, and go from there. However, that attitude marks me as a bigot, in their eyes. So, if that infant is a biological female, and grows up and eventually has a baby of her/his/its own, does that make it the baby's mother or father? Do we have a title for a parent of undecided gender? How about "immediate ance$tor"? (The censor made me do that.)

I may have shared this little event, about ten or so years ago, but here goes again. One night when I was working in the mom/baby unit, a couple came in that drew a lot of attention. The laboring mother was wearing nothing but a long t-shirt, and the presumed father was dressed in jackboots, and a long Nazi-style overcoat, over a black t-shirt and dark jeans. He was also wearing a metal helmet and carrying an 6-ft heavy stick, like a spear without a point. Security stopped him, escorted him to an exit door, and made him leave his stick outside. After a brief labor, the woman delivered a healthy baby, and that's when the parents made their announcement. After a brief "communion" with the newborn, they wanted to leave it for adoption. It seems that both parents had "spirit animals", I think the dad was a lion and the mother was a tiger. They had determined that the baby's spirit animal was some lowly animal, though I forget what, but nothing as impressive as a lion or a tiger. Therefore, they could not and would not keep it, the baby would be offered for adoption. Of course, CPS was called and the necessary arrangements were made, thank the good Lord. Can you imagine what that child's life would have been like, if those two lunatics had taken it home? Where do these people get these deranged notions? Oh yeah, I guess we all know the answer to that. Satan must be just laughing his horns off!

Well, Barney Miller comes on in a few minutes, maybe Trinket and I will turn in, and see if sleep will come again. It should, I had a busy day. Physical therapy at 9, went to the pharmacy and picked up some meds, then bought gas for Tillie, did some grocery shopping, came home and unloaded and put away the groceries. Ate some baby carrots and drank some juice, then Trinket and I went to the bank, then to the mechanic where the door lock/window control box for the front passenger door was replaced, then to Petsmart to get some things Trinket needed, and back home by about 4:30. Actually cooked a full meal for dinner. That's a lot more than I usually do in a day, and I'm feeling it, with the sensation of a hot coal in my left mid-back. Old age is a bummer, but it beats the alternative. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

September 28, 2019 - Msg 112991: Romeena, I've heard tell that the 'alternative' aint too bad! haha (Well, someday for all of us.) :) So sorry you could not get back to sleep. Ever try melatonin? Interesting story!
Glad to hear that GF is enjoying Mayberry days.
And I think Big Maude is there too. Possum? You also?
Maybe next year for me if I can get the funds to swing it. Paying for Yellowstone right now.
Well, My Dbacks are out of the playoffs due to a loss to st. Louis. Like the loyal Cub fans, "maybe next year!" GF--I think your Tribe and SPOT's tribe are still in contention.
Well, like Romeena's Friday, I have an 'errand' Saturday facing me square in the face!
Prayers for Boo's family and all of us.
Lord help us.
MDC
PS: BTW, while we were waiting in the SLC airport to get our connecting flight to Phx, we sat near about 10 LDS Elders and Sisters who were also waiting. They were the most pleasant people we have experienced in a long time.
It was very refreshing. :)

September 28, 2019 - Msg 112992: MDC, nice sweep.
Sorry to hear about your Dbacks. A`s are hanging in there with two more games left for the regular season.

Niece came back home Monday and it is working out better than the first time. Has a new therapist and that is working out good. She is having some one on one time with her Mom today and going out and having a good time. Therapist is working with her on getting back and adjusted to school and home. She looked so happy with her Mom today. She sent sent some pictures. I just keep praying for her.

Boo, sounds like Erin will do very well on her new job. I wish her the best.

Our weather has finally cooled down and it feels so much better. I have to say the heat was kind of getting to me.
You all take care and have a nice weekend.

September 28, 2019 - Msg 112994: Good afternoon, porch. I thought I'd pop in and give a report on the battle with Trinket. Last night was a turning point, I think. Like I said earlier, we had napped in my chair until just after midnight, and after we got in bed, I couldn't get to sleep. Finally, around 2 a.m., I might have made it, but Trinket was all wound up, and wasn't about to go to sleep. I realize she's just a puppy, and I always cut her some slack, but last night it just wasn't going to happen. She ran all over the bed, bounced off me about every three seconds, stuck her nose in my ear, bit my toes, and when I'd reach for her to pin her down for a moment, she'd either dodge away, or wriggle out of my grip if I happened to catch her. I'm sure the whole scene would have seemed very funny to an observer, but it wasn't funny to me.

Finally, I got up on my knees on the bed, grabbed her with both hands and pinned her down. She was on her belly, and I had one hand on her rear end, and the other on her neck and shoulders, and I did not let go. She struggled and wriggled, and mind you, she's very, very strong and it was all I could do to hold her, but I did. I held her pinned down until she quit struggling. Once she relaxed, I eased up a bit, and she immediately tried to jump up, but I was ready, and pinned her down again. This went on for at least five minutes, until she finally gave up, and remained still when I let go. She was looking at me with the most hilarious expression on her little face, like "What just happened here? This isn't the way it goes!" When I laid back down, she stayed where she was, and soon fell asleep. This morning, she has been just a bit subdued, comes to me for a snuggle often, and doesn't try to remove my socks so she can bite my toes!

I think I established just who is the alpha around here, and it ain't her! I expect her to test me again very soon, but she's going to learn that I mean it. I'm not having a five month old puppy in charge of this household. I was here first, I pay the expenses, and she is not in charge. So there!

She's cute as a bug, though much bigger than I had hoped, but I think she's going to be a very pretty dog, with a fabulous coat. I refuse to allow her to be a brat, and be an annoyance to me and other people. She's going to learn to behave, or else. She's young, and time will take care of a lot of her behavior, but meantime, patterns are being set, and I'm going to make sure she's not a pest.

I think we're going to start leash training pretty soon. Toye Starr never, ever learned to walk on a leash. As soon as she felt the first tug, she would flip over on her little back, all four paws waving in the air, and she would literally scream! That will draw attention on the sidewalk in Fredericksburg, believe me. So, I would pick her up and carry her. It beat drawing a crowd. At 4 1/2 lbs, carrying her was no big deal, and eventually I got her a stroller, but Trinket is going to be too big to carry, and would probably chew her way out of a stroller. So, she's going to have to learn to walk on a leash. Wish me luck!

Blessings, friends. --Romeena

September 28, 2019 - Msg 112995: No, MDC, I'm not at Mayberry Days. Would've loved to have gone and one of these years I will! Heck,I might even be in the parade if I can find a vehicle willing to haul me and my rock! Someone posted the parade on Facebook and I just got finished watching it. Looked like a fun time- lots of Barneys! I lost count of them all- ha! Saw our Floyd and even Michael Jackson. ?? Can anyone explain his connection to Mayberry? That one kind of surprised me!

Maybe G-F can explain it for us-oh, and was Clint Howard in the parade, G-F? I saw the little Leons but didn't see him.I remember you telling us a while back that you were creating a fake PB & J sammich for him,so wondering if he was in the parade with it. Hmm.. Well, give us the scoop when you can, G-F!

Hey to everyone and y'all take care!

September 29, 2019 - Msg 112996: Sounds like a breakthrough with Trinket, Ro, and I think you are right about the alpha thing. Hope she is a quick learner. As far as the pad training, I know with my pup, it took a little while for her to stop having accidents now and then. Well, if for some reason I don't get the pads changed often enough, she will venture off to the bathroom and find a rug to tinkle on. She still thinks small rugs are pads so the only rugs I have down are the ones just outside the showers. It is fairly rare that she uses one but it does still happen. It takes time, I guess. I would love to be able to let her go outside but she takes off running like crazy if she gets out and also, I like her to stay super clean since she is in the house. She never smells bad unless I let her play outside on a tether. I still fear the hawks around here, too. Poopsie never got very big. She probably weighs 10 pounds but Im not sure a big hawk couldn't pick her up and drop her and we just cant have that! Sean is so crazy about her and she is about him, too. He is her person, for sure. As soon as he gets home from work she is on his lap and just flops into his arms and goes to sleep. She doesn't do that with any of the rest of us. She will sit on my lap but seems to have a hard time relaxing, but as soon as Sean is home, she relaxes in his arms and sleeps. I know she feels perfectly safe with him because he is such a kind and gentle soul. Dogs can sense that.

Well, enough about my dog. lol Hope you guys are getting used to it.

I had a rather brutal night at work tonight, being the only nurse. We had two kids come in and the whole admission process is tough when you have to do everything yourself, including the initial psych screening. The place can't afford to have a counselor on call on the weekends after hours, so everything falls on the nurse, as the only other licensed professional on the premises! It's crazy, and tonight in all the activity, I locked myself out of the office! I couldn't believe there was not a universal key in the facility that would let me get back in, so in all my crazy busyness, I had to make phone calls to find someone who could come in and let me back into the nurse's office. I was an hour and a half late finishing up all the paperwork and such. I'm tired so I think I will get myself to bed. I have to go back again tomorrow afternoon.

September 29, 2019 - Msg 112997: Well Possum here’s the scoop..Clint was not feeling well this weekend so he was not at some of the weekend events.
But yes I did get my fake PB&J sammich’s I made autographed by him and the one I made for him he signed and then donated it to the silent auction they have. It brought a nice amount of $ that goes to the Arts Council that puts on the event to help defray some of the costs of putting it on...

I’m beat to the socks 🧦 I was up till after midnight hobnobbing with a lot of the celebrities at a party they have here at the Mayberry Motor Inn...Charlene Darling stopped by for awhile as did several others. It was neat listening to their stories about the show, and some of the Directors too!

I got my picture made with Johnny Paul Jason and I did get a picture with Clint and I holding the sammich! 🙌🏻
I feel like the time when Barney and Virgil went to Raleigh and Barney wrote back home..”Dear Peasants” Lol
But all in all it was a GREAT WEEKEND!...I’m getting ready for the church service they have at the amphitheater before everyone goes home...Should I say (back to the real world)

As for the Michael Jackson guy, they have a talent show “Mayberry Idel” where people compete like American Idol
He just happened to be one of the performers that was there.

Did not see Mr.&Mrs. Maude, don’t know if they made it or not, I hope they did. But there were alota people here so I just may have missed them...

Well, I better wrap this up and get ready for church ⛪ ya know Reverend Tucker hates it when we’re late and he’s ready to talk on sin...lol

Wish Y’all could have been here.....G-F

September 29, 2019 - Msg 112998: Oh,ok,thanks for explaining it all, G-F! Didn't know they were doing a talent show-that's pretty cool and now I can understand why MJ was in Mayberry! Sorry that Clint was ailing, but cool about the sammiches! Glad you are having such a great time up there!

Dang, Boo! You're having a time, ain't ya,girlie?! Meanwhile, Ro is wrestling pups! Hey,you've gotta train 'em while they're young, huh,Ro?

Good Sabbath to all and have a lovely day! Thanks again, G-F!

September 29, 2019 - Msg 112999: Good Sabbath all.

My goodness GF, Sounds like you are having a good time there my friend. Glad to hear it, and thanks for keeping us in the loop. I enjoyed the parade link you posted. Was nice to see Miss Betty Lynn in the parade. And sure saw a mess of squad cars. Old Barn would be as proud as can be if he saw the fleet of rolling stock the Mayberry Sheriff's office comprised of today. I was surprised I didn't see any motorcycle with a side car. Well have fun at Church, and if you snag a fly, remember what day today is and let him free. BTW, Why are fly's always given the "him" title? You ever hear anyone refer to a fly as "her"? Why ain't those wimmen protesters protesting that? They do everything else. lol

Boo, sounds like a rough night for sure. Hopefully tonight will be a little calmer. You are right about how dogs can sense things in people. That was a cute story you shared about Sean and Poopsie.

Romeena, It sounds like you have your hands full with Trinket, but are winning the war. I have no doubt you will. Love conquers all.

Possum, Is Laci fully recovered? I hope she is well now.

MDC, I do think Tuesdays are the days that Missionaries for the LDS church depart after spending some time in the MTC. So I imagine you saw a few. Glad it was a nice experience for you. Have you cooled down at all? Our cold front moved in yesterday. I went to Cache's soccer game yesterday morning and boy, the temps dropped 10 degrees in that hour I do believe. Only supposed to be in the 50's today. Sorry Boo, not bragging, just reporting the facts Ma-am. :)

Frankie, Ain't it a comfort to sit in the house, and hear the rain going on outside, and know that the roof is solid and offering protection? Last night I was doing that as I listened to the rain. I never had any leaks, but I knew in time I would.

I have been having a horrible time trying to get my DISH pointed back in the correct alignment. I have called several local companies and can't even get anyone to answer a phone. Just get voice mail that they don't respond too. So on Thursday I decided to get hold of DISH and see if they could come do it. What a joke. I decided to try via on line chat rather then go through all the idiotic voice commands you get on the phone. After a half hour wait on line, I told the gal what I needed done. She said they could send someone out to do that, although it would be a $95.00 charge. As I am chatting with her on line, I see all the banners on the DISH page advertising free same installation. And I am thinking, so you will go install all this for free for a new customer, but want to ding me with 95 bucks to come and aim my dish, a 5 minute job? But I never said anything, just said ok, lets do it. She responded with if I had their service contract for 10 bucks a month, it was a free service. She then asked if I would like to sign up for that. I asked if they would waive the 95 bucks and she said yes she would. So I said, ok. She then tells me my next bill will be $145.00. My current bill is 58 bucks a month, plus 10 bucks, how do you come up with 145 bucks? She responds with something along the line of they have to prorate it. I finally said forget it. I will just pay the 95 bucks. She says I understand. Then she sets up the time, (between noon and 2 the next day) Then she says she will need to collect 113 bucks now before she can activate the ticket. Well by this time I lost it, and I told her to just forget the whole thing and cancel my service. I was so sick and tired of their nonsense. She responded back with the comment she saw we were a preferred customer so they would be willing to come and do it for no charge. I wanted to tell her what she could do with her offer at this point, but my Grandkids love to come over and watch cartoons during their stays , and I do love the DVR ability, so I said ok. Well by 4 o'clock the next day they still hadn't shown up. So I have a second chapter to this saga, but I will save it for another post. But here it is, Sunday morning and I still have no DISH service. (Whaaaa, call me a whambulance)

Well I am off to Stacy's Church service today. The Grandkids are in the program and I want to see that.

Prayers for all for a great day, and GF, Safe travels going home.

September 29, 2019 - Msg 113001: Asa, Sorry to hear about your Dish. Sounds like a headache.
Yes we really had some hard rain yesterday. The hail had the street and driveway looking white. I have never seen hail that hard in this area. And just a few days ago it was in the high 90`s today is only in the 60`s. Kind of hard this old body of mine to adjust to the fast weather changes. There was a house down the street from mine that was in the middle of re-roofing there house when we got a emergency warning of a severe storm warning. There was even a tornado that touched down about nine miles from me. That is very uncommon in this area. I am so glad my roof was all finished. I just stayed inside and let mother nature do her thing.

My A`s made the wild card playoff. They will be playing at home Wednesday. Should be a good game and I hope they win.

You all take care and be safe out there.

September 30, 2019 - Msg 113007: Good Monday morning all. I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Well MDC, I just happen to think always calling fly's a he or a him is rather s3xist and should cease and desist. (JK buddy)
I heard over the weekend that DISH and FOX Sports are in a tug of war battle over pricing. Fox and a few others are trying to jack their rates up and DISH is calling them out on it. In this case I do have to come to the defense of DISH I suppose, although it ain't easy right now. My story continues. Around 4 o'clock Friday, and still no technician, I tried calling DISH, and spent 20 minutes going through their idiotic voice menus. I finally gave up and got on line to chat with someone again. It took 45 minutes before I was finally able to hook up with someone. I told them my scenario and asked where was the tech? She responded with "I can't help you with that sir, you will need to call our 800 number. So after a few exchanges with her (I knew it wasn't her fault) I called them again and after 10 minutes of number pushing I got a recording telling me there was an 18 minute wait for the next available call rep. They did give me the option of having them call me back, so I chose that, fully expecting no return call. But they did, and I finally got through to a living breathing person. Again I told him my story, and he said he wasn't sure what had happened. He tried to get me a tech to come out on Saturday, but finally had to tell me the earliest would be today, between 10 and noon. He did say he would reduce my bill this month. So now, does anyone want to tell me why on earth I am still with them? I can't fully explain it myself. I think a big part of it is the DVR and the ease of programing it. I don't know, but I have promised myself if their are any hiccups today, I am done with them. I will go find an antenna and go with OTA broadcast signal.

Frankie, I remember those A players of yesteryear. I used to be a big Raiders fan, and you got me remembering some of their old players of back in the day. Stabler, Blitnekof, Hubbard, Vann Egan, Branch, Otto (I even remember his jersey number 00) Ray Guy, George Blanda. Gosh, that was back when the game was fun to watch. Good luck on your team in the play-offs.

GF, Sorry your team didn't make it. Hey, I see the Browns beat the Ravens yesterday though. Huge moral win for the Browns, ain't it? Did you get home already from the big weekend?

Well I had to breakdown and fire up the furnace this morning. My indoor stat was reading 52. I was fine with that under the covers in bed, but just to cool to be dealing with otherwise. It's in the low 40's outside this morning so I reckon it is what it is.

I saw Skippy and Jeff Pruitt on P.M. last night. Oh, and the blonde Nurse Mary. I have seen the dark haired Nurse Mary (Julie Adams) on numerous episodes. My goodness, she was a beautiful woman.

Possum, so glad that Laci is doing well. I hope you can get some weight on her. I just hope you don't overdo it and she gets the hiccups like Barn did. :)

Well I hope everyone has a great day and a safe week. And Trinket, shape up and listen to your Mum! lol

September 30, 2019 - Msg 113008: Good morning, porch! My goodness, lots of conversation over the weekend! I am so sorry you folks are having so much trouble with Dish. I've had them for many years, and just have no complaints. Their little number maze can be a little annoying, but I actually have no problem navigating it, and always end up with someone who fixes my problem right away. I do have the $10/month "insur@nce" thing, and it's worth it. Over the years, they have replaced three Dish boxes when the hard drives failed. They replaced one rooftop Dish when the roofers dropped it and damaged it, and another one a little later when a limb blew down and crumpled it. All promptly, no argument, no charge.

I wonder if each local service center is an independent contractor? That could explain a lot. You know how it is - most McDonald's are a decent place to get a quick meal, but now and then you find one where you feel like you need a shower when you leave, and the food is not good. As for Dish, just for that DVR ability I would put up with a lot, but so far, I haven't had to do so.

MDC, so far I haven't had a problem with Dave's bread getting moldy, except for one time, when the loaf was at least a week old. I buy the 21-grain/seed/nut bread, thin sliced. It's a small loaf, and I usually manage to eat it before it goes bad. I usually don't eat the first or last two slices - the birds get those. Also, if you tend to keep it a little longer than I do, maybe putting it in the fridge would help. Oh, and one other thing. Use a paper towel over your fingers when you reach into the bag. I do, and the same goes for packages of sliced cheese. I figured that one out a long time ago, when some cheese I had started to mold, and I realized that the mold was the size and shape of my fingertips, where I had touched the remaining cheese while getting a couple of slices out of the package. Now I cover my fingers with a paper towel for bread and cheese, and almost never see any mold.

The battle still continues here, between Trinket and me, but I think I'm gradually winning. Either that, or she's just getting a little older and naturally settling down. I declare, she's as cute as she can be, and I wish I had a tenth of her energy, but she is definitely a challenge. She's much bigger than I wanted her to be, but maybe that's not a bad thing. My kids all think so. Toye Starr was so dainty and looked so fragile, but really, she wasn't. She was quite strong, just tiny. Trinket is a moose! Starr would hop up on the sofa like she had wings, and Trinket (alias Lardb#tt) just sits and wishes she could. She's just over 7 lbs now, and still growing. Like I said - a moose!

Well, guess I'd better try to get a little bit done around here. My back feels like there's a hot coal sitting next to my spine, but I finally took some Tylenol, should help a little. I'll be glad when the nerve injections are done, maybe I'll get some relief. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Asa, You Try And you try, and what do ya get? HEARTACHES! Nuthin but...HEARTACHES!...In my best Barney voice.

September 30, 2019 - Msg 113010: Ro--I may have asked this before, but ever try Aspercreme patches for the back misery? They really help me. Also, thanks for the bread suggestions. Never even thought of that.!

September 30, 2019 - Msg 113011: Well there is not a dead DISH technician here in Norther Utah I am happy to report. The feller showed up, very nice guy, and it took him all of about 5 minutes to adjust, just as I thought. I was telling him about all the drama I had gone through with the customer service folks and he was aghast. Very apologetic. Anyway, I am back in business.

Romeena, very interesting thought about fingers and mold. I have never heard that before. Sorry you are still fighting the misery in your back. I do hope you can get some relief soon. HA, I love your nickname for Trinket. LB. LOL Our Barney was on the large side for a mini doxie at around 17 pounds if I remember right. My son has one and I bet she is less than 12 pounds.

GF, Don't be too depressed buddy. At least you got to go. And you got a nice picture with Johnny Paul. Why don't you go down and watch them change the marque at the Grand. You always enjoy that. :)

September 30, 2019 - Msg 113012: Stop bragging about your weather Asa or I’ll rub it in when it’s 70 here and you are shoveling snow!😜
It’s still so hot here that it is still in the80s overnight.

MDC, I love Dave’s Bread and always store it in the refrigerator to prevent molding because I don’t eat it fast enough.

September 30, 2019 - Msg 113013: Good evening, porch. MDC, I've tried Aspercreme patches, and even some prescription pain patches the doc ordered, and nothing helps. When you have a curving spine, closing down the gaps between several vertebrae and crushing the nerves that exit the spine through those gaps, you're going to have pain, I guess. One thing for sure, I'm ready for just about anything the doc wants to do to fix it. I've had enough.

Boo, you sound like me, with Toye Starr. She never set a little dainty foot outside the house unless I was carrying her, and she always smelled so nice, never "doggy." We have a hawk around here too, and he could easily have flown off with her, and I would never, ever, have gotten over that sight! I probably would have ended up in jail, because if he ever returned to my yard and landed in his usual spot in the tree, the Judge and I would have blown him out of the tree. There would have been nothing but a pile of feathers on the ground. I would have been arrested on two counts - killing a protected species, and discharging a firearm in the city limits. Trinket will be too big and strong for him to carry off, but she's still not going outside without me.

Well, time to turn in. G-F, I'm so jealous, it sounds like you had a great time. Wish I could make it to one of those events, but likely never will. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

October 01, 2019 - Msg 113014: FEE FI FO FUM I smell the blood of an Englishman. Tonite's ep was Otis Buys a Car! Always a good episode.
ASA, glad you got the dish fixed all proper.
Wow, it would have been shocking to have had TWO porchsters in the big house! OH by the way, many of the restrooms in the national parks
are of the "biffy" variety, and there was a very funny sign above all the "holes." --"Do not throw anything except toilet paper into the hole, as it is very difficult to remove other objects from the hole!" Really! Maybe some sign-making ranger is a tags fan! haha
Also, today our ME-TV station started The Flintstones!! I havent seen that since i was a kid in the 60s, and we only had a B/W TV. Kinda neat to see it in 'living color!'
BOO--we are now 'down' into the 90s here! Yea, the 100s are gone for about 6 months!! :)
Maybe I should just buy that alligator farm in Florida! ha

October 01, 2019 - Msg 113015: Romeena...I feel Ya..I always wanted to do a Mayberry Cruise 🚢 But I don’t think that will happen either...
Speaking of that, when you went on your cruises do you remember Christy McClendon who did “Andelina“ ? She did a song called “Mayberry Women” sung like Gretchen Wilsons’s “Redneck Women” at MD’s. I’m telling you she brought down the house!.She is SO talented!...

BTW, a mayberry cruise sounds neat.
RO--maybe this would be a good title for Trinket
a la Barney... "Trinket...Gateway to Danger!" ha
Also, I ate once at one of those 'rogue' McDonald
franchises. The two patties in the Big Mac were about
the size of a 50 cent piece, and the fries were done in an
oil that had done a LOT of 'fryin!'
ASA--I always enjoy your funny upbeat posts, even the ones about
your DISH issues! :)
BOO__prayers continue for your fam.. How's Erin's job coming along?

October 02, 2019 - Msg 113017: Good morning, porch. It's beautiful here today, about 86°, with a light breeze. Eddie is here, mowing and edging, and the yard will be pretty when he's finished. That ridiculous, tangled stand of much-too-tall zinnias in the big raised bed is still standing, thanks to its crown of beautiful butterflies. If it weren't for those gorgeous creatures, that jungle would have been cleaned out long ago. I can't imagine what it's going to look like next summer, when all the dropped seeds sprout and repeat the process. I want to seed it with something else, but new seedlings are hard to identify, and I won't know what to pull up and what to leave. I'm thinking of planting a little stand of milkweed somewhere, though. Here's why: http://tinyurl.com/y6sqvhj6.

The Battle with Trinket continues. After I pinned her down and convinced her that I was stronger, she has been a bit less defiant. Actually, defiant is not really the word. She's just a happy puppy, very energetic, and doesn't understand boundaries. She loves me, I think, because she follows every step I take, never fails to drop a little licky-kiss on my ankle as she trots by, and cuddles close at night, finally, when her energy declines. We'll get there, eventually, the Lord willing!

Boo, how is Erin's job going? And Sean? What's going on with him? I guess in my mind I'll always think of them as the little kids I met in Fredericksburg. It's hard to believe they're all grown up. It just all happens so fast, doesn't it?

Well, maybe a little lunch is in order. I've got some swiss cheese and some Dave's nutty bread, maybe I'll just toast a couple of slices under the broiler. Trinket is asleep, lying across my foot, but I guess I'll have to wake her. She won't care, and no doubt will bite at least one toe before she leaves my foot! She nibbles on me at every opportunity, mostly on my toes, has never broken skin, and it really doesn't hurt, but there's always that possibility....

Blessings! --Romeena

October 02, 2019 - Msg 113018: Oh...By the way...I did get to meet Gilligan/Dud Wash #2’s wife at Mayberry Days too. I told her I honor “Gilligan” every time I mow my grass. I have a OFFICIAL Gilligan’s Island 🏝 hat I wear when I mow grass! Mrs. Goob says I look like a dork but at my age, WHO CARES!..🤷🏼‍♂️Life’s Too Short, and So Am I !

Speaking of that...I better get out there and do it, rain is coming later tonight...

October 02, 2019 - Msg 113019: Thank you for those prayers, MDC. Erin seems to be doing fine with the job. Today was her first day of bagging groceries and she said it was ok. She is getting over a cold so she isn't feeling up to par but she went anyway, so that is a good sign. She sees her psychiatrist on Monday for medication evaluation and she sees the nose dr. Remember when she fractured her nose over a year ago? The doc said it was a minor fracture but it continues to cause her problems and she cant breathe through one side of her nose. The pressure she feels is giving her headaches so I think we might be looking at surgery in the future. Thank God we have good insur@nce.

Sean has been working under really poor management in his current job so he arranged a transfer with the same company (Marriot) to a hotel just down the street from us with much better management. It just so happens his current boss was fired from there because of his poor performance. Sean said he walked in with his resume and was hired on the spot at the hotel near us. The manager offered him a higher wage and told him he could be off on Sundays for church. He had to work every sunday at the other location. He will finish out his two weeks there and be starting at the new location in about 10 days. He will save on gas because he has been having to drive about 20 miles to work and back.

Bruce and I are going to be going on our trip this weekend, I hope. Erin having a cold could be a problem and I am hoping and praying one of us don't get it and have to cancel our trip. I am feeling kind of rundown but am taking elderberry and garlic hoping to stave off any sickness. I am trying to remain calm and not stress, although I do have to work alone tomorrow so that could be a problem. lol

Asa, I actually made a big pot of chili today at the kid's request, even though it is in the 90s outside. They just couldn't wait any longer for Frito pie.

Better git! Things to get done.
