Her hee. Sorry to throw that pop quiz at you Asa. The truth is I’ve been having some trouble with the censor. I lost two long post yesterday and I couldn’t copy and paste them. Not sure what’s going on there but anyway I am here and I’m doing OK. I’m working a lot but after tomorrow I’ll have several days off so will try to be back on the porch more often.
So happy to hear about the new puppy Romeena. I can’t wait to see a picture of her at some point after you choose her. Very exciting.
Well I picked up Sean from the airport in Houston this week. He had a good time in Florida. The airport in Houston is an intercontinental one and he is huge. It was an interesting experience just people watching while I waited. I was very glad to get out of the city though. It’s a crazy place.
Erin is home and things are going fairly smoothly. I can tell she’s trying and she’s had a lot less anxiety. I plan on spending a lot more time with her now that I’ll be working less.
There have been some changes in the job. We are still renting the big compressor and it’s keeping the place cool which is great. My boss stepped down from her position and we are getting a new nurse administrator on Monday. She is someone that we all know because she used to work here and left to take another job and that didn’t work out so she wants to come back. She’s nice enough but she’s kind of hyper. I think she has the mental health issues so this could get interesting. She is very friendly with the boss is here so that could work for our good. Time will tell. There is still no buyer for the place though so I guess we will see what happens.
I had better get back to work just wanted to check in. Hope you all have a great weekend

BOO--You are a bird in this world! I saw your post of the airport tram on FB. Looked like the Starship Enterprise! Very cool that Erin is doing better.
Happy to also hear that shoreline's AC is better too. Our prayers continue for you and yours.
ASA and GF-- now our ON means ON and OFF means OFF. Not sure what the man did, but he fixed the issue with a BUT... he said that all the relays are on one board, and just to be safe we should replace the board. It's about a $50 item. I can see his point, so we may just have him do it. Any thoughts?
Also, I agree with ASA to give Charlene a big sugar square on the jaw! BTW, I saw our Joanna Moore on Wagon Train the other day. Interesting.

OK MDC and any other space nerds. July 8-10 PBS and American Experience will be airing a 3 part documentary called Chasing the Moon. I just watched a preview of it and I am pretty pumped. It is supposed to have a lot of clips never seen before. The Director tells this story that he had spent a wonderful day at Frank Bormans house, and Frank was driving him back to the airport, when Frank mentioned he had a whole box of old home movie clips in his attic and asked if he would like it. lol The Director couldn't get back to the hose fast enough. This looks to be an awesome program.
Frankie, good job on the blinds. I have been considering updating mine as well.
Good to see you Billy Ray.Hope you are well.
Romeena, I just can't seem to win at cooking. I fried up some pork chops for supper tonight, and finally made some pretty decent gravy. Put it on my mashed taters and wouldn't you know it. I way over salted the taters. And I mean bad. I declare, I'm a mess in the kitchen. Yet somehow my waistline ain't got the message yet. I wonder what causes that? :)

HI Folks! My visiting sister and cecile and I decided to go to Mass this morning at the church in Phoenix where we grew up! It was quite an experience as the demographics have changed! But we actually saw a few people that we still knew! Also, they had just finished renovating the church social hall which looked great, had coffee and donuts there and visited. And in the chruch, they had just sanded and re-varnished the pews and installed new lighting, so it was nice and bright. Even the sermon was a good one on the greatest commandment.
My sister leaves tomorrow, it has been a really good time.

Good morning, porch. I've been away so long, if I tried to comment on everything I've missed, it would break the porch, so I'll just say - I've missed you, I've prayed for you, I'm happy for the things that are going well, and will continue to pray for the things that are still percolating!
Right now, it appears I'll be able to get my puppy around the middle of this month, or in about two weeks. I can hardly wait.
Asa, regarding the over-salted taters, that can happen so easily. You salt, forget you did, and do it again! Or the salt shifts in the box as you're shaking some into the tater water, and a big bunch goes into the water. My mama had a saying - you can always add more, but you can't take it out. Actually, you can, if you realize you've done it. Just pour off some of the water and replace it with fresh water, but usually, you're not aware that you've oversalted. So, I salt very sparingly at the stove, and put a shaker on the table for anyone who likes a lot of salt, like Eloise. Another trick for reducing the salt, if you have time. Boil another potato, cut into small pieces to speed the cooking, with no salt. Then blend it into the salty taters, and it will dilute the salt somewhat.
Friends, I need your prayers. I'm dealing with a significant amount of pain in my back, specifically in my left side. I'm only comfortable in bed, or lying back in my recliner. Sitting, standing or any other position - painful. The scoliosis in my spine has twisted my rib cage, and it feels like my ribs are riding over my hipbone, and it's painful. I saw my spine surgeon, and he was not much help. If he can operate, he's fine, but failing that, he doesn't have much to offer, and he says there is no spinal surgery that he would be willing to perform on me. So, he's sending me to a pain management doc. We'll see what she has to offer. If it's another one that wants to push the opioid pills, forget it. I've been down that road, and the doc just more or less dropped me when I told him I couldn't and wouldn't take the pills. I may have to have a rib or two removed, and I'll do it, if it will relieve the pain, but I will not live my life fighting nausea, feeling disoriented, and basically just hopped up on a narcotic.
Blessings, friends. --Romeena

And you have ours for sure. I agree about your reluctance on dealing with opioids. Just a thought and I will e-mail it to you. I am so sorry your in such pain.
Boo, Same goes for you and Sean. You just can't get a break. But you are also strong and I know you can endure. My prayers for sure.
It has really puzzled me how those taters got so salty Ro. I often forget to salt them, have never done them twice, but maybe I did. These were not just a little salty. They would have made a good salt lick for a cow. Oh well, ya just gotta keep trying.
Just went and got a new belt for my vacuum. We have a central vacuum system and the power head runs off the actual vacuum. There is a small belt that drives the beater brush spindle and it was worn out. While I was there I was talking to the owner of the shop, and he was telling me about the systems they are putting in now days that have hose retraction ability. The new hoses are light weight and are longer, and the vacuum just sucks the hose right up into the pipe in the wall when you are done. No more coiling up hose and hanging it in a closet. Dag gum, I might have to invest in a retrofit. That thing was way cool.
Well now I got the vacuum working, I ain't got any more excuses. Off to work, Dave Browne notwithstanding!

Good afternoon, porch. Just got back from a lunch date with Eloise, at Olive Garden. Sure was good! I pigged out on the salad, but managed to finish my lunch as well. It was two very tender and juicy chicken medallions with a lemon/garlic/pesto/parmesan sauce and baked sliced zucchini with a parmesan crust. Excellent! Olive Garden is a very good and reliable place to eat, and if you watch what you're doing, it's not too expensive. My meal was just $10.79, and with the all-you-want salad, it's well worth it.
That link about the flag is a puzzler. I know, the law is the law, but when the law manages to turn a blind eye to so many flagrant violations, when Americans are murdered by illegal aliens, when a man with 23 drunk driving convictions is still on the road, driving without a license, and kills a young highway patrol officer - well, I have a hard time getting too upset about an oversized American flag. I think it's beautiful, and my vote is to leave it alone, and leave its owner alone. Who's going to get up there and measure it, anyway? I think I could drive past it, glance at it a couple of times, enough to appreciate its beauty, and still maintain control of my car. If some idiot just gazes at it and runs his car off the road, well.... I'll admit, I would be tempted to pull over, off the road, and admire it for a while, but I'd never just forget I was driving and gaze at the flag. Maybe the city's ordinance could be changed? How about they call a vote on it in the city?
Well, I stopped at Kroger's and bought some of the wonderful cherries they have right now - both dark sweet and Rainier varieties. So good! They're on sale right now, and I had already stocked up, but I bought another three pounds, planning to take two pounds to my neighbor, Barbara, who is still in a rehab center. I called her husband first, to be sure she likes cherries, and she does not! So, scrap that mission. Well, drat! Guess I'll just have to eat them myself. Aw, shucks! Ain't that a shame??

Asa, I know what you mean about local produce. There's just no comparison, when you get the local stuff. It just tastes better! I bought some sort of melon or canteloupe, not sure what it was, but it surely was good. It was like a cross between a honeydew melon and a canteloupe, the texture was soft and it was as sweet as honey. Really very good. I asked the kid in the produce department what it was, and of course, he had no idea. Big shocker. He's a nice kid, but he just takes 'em out of the box and puts 'em in the bins, that's about all. I'll have to do a little research, because that whatever-it-is was surely good.

And I agree with your analysis of MDC's sprinkler leak. And you didn't make a moulage of it. :)

Welcome Sara the telephone operator!
G-F, nice video of Elvis. He was so handsome.
Asa, I love the videos of the dog playing the piano. So darn cute.
Talked with my nephew who lives in L.A. and he said the first quake woke him up. The second quake had all the windows rattling and shaking. He said it was the strangest thing he has ever felt.

I'm here, just been busy working and such. I work, then I try and catch up and seems there is always something else added to the list. We had out new appliances delivered and the problems began! First, Bruce put in the new dishwasher and it was very hard for him to get down in the floor and do that with his bad shoulder and knees, but he finally go it done. He and Sean brought in the new range, using a dolly, and once it was out of the box, it had a big dent in edge of the oven door. You could tell that it was sent that way from the factory so no good quality control, I guess. We went up to lows and they arranged a swap but they said we would have to pay for a new range and then once they picked up the damaged one they would refund our money. That didn't set well with Bruce, so they worked with him and set it up to pick up the damaged one and bring a new one on Monday. So, this morning, he pulled out the old fridge after I cleaned everything out of it, took it outside and brought in the new fridge. When he got everything hooked up and went to slide it in place, it wouldn't quite fit so now he is having to hire someone to trim a little off the quartz countertop so it will go in. So, for now we are using it but it is sticking out into the kitchen. He did get the microwave in place with minimal difficulty. Man, why is it that things are always harder than you expect? I shouldn't complain but I just hate that Bruce has to work so hard at things because he just cant do as much as he used to do. Sean and I did help him as much as we could, at least. I don't anticipate any problems putting the stove in place but who knows?
Things are going fairly well on the homefront, thank you all for the prayers. I have an occasional stern conversation with Erin. She needs a big reality check and I have been giving it to her. Sometimes teenagers can be the absolute most frustrating thing on the face of the earth! I am glad she is home and safe, though. I was trying to talk her into going into the service today but she is probably right about not passing the physical. She still have a lot of trouble with her shoulder and already has a bad knee.
Sean is still searching for another job and we are praying for the right one.
On one of my breaks today I watched the Count Istvan Teleky episode. It is so great, I just love it. I kinda wanna punch Helen in the face in the beginning of the ep, but otherwise it is so funny.
Time to call it a day and go put my feet up on the ottoman. Hope you all had a blessed Sunday.

Sarah, thank you for the johnny cake description.Yup, I can see ol' Charlie on Wagon Train cooking that in a dutch oven. :) Sounds good too.
FRANKIE--so glad you are ok. I hope there are no more aftershocks. Prayers for sure.
BOO--I'm wondering if you guys looked into having the items installed. In my dealings, places usually have pretty reasonable of even free installation sometimes, tho I'm pretty sure they would not cut the quartz. Did Lowes do the measuring? If so, that might be a recourse.
So sorry for all your troubles, but my prayers continue. Did I miss something earlier about Erin posssibly going into the service?? Glad to see you posting tho. Hang in there. Saw your FB posts with the Bud glasses...pretty cool!
Well all, we woke up this morning with a far-sighted woodpeck@r pecking at our rain gutter! yup Heard the 'rat-atat-tat' and sure enough, it was "dulling its beak" on the metal gutter! Funniest thing ya ever saw. ha
Speaking of funny...that dog and the piano video was hilarious! He must have been hitting the perfect pitched note to get him to howling like that! What a hoot.
ASA and GF...i have decided to wait and see regarding the sprinkler pipe. I leave for SB in a week, and will check it out when i get back.
This morning in church we ended the service with America the Beautiful! I sure do cotton to that song! :)
God bless,
MDC

Good morning all.
Boo, So good to here from you, but sorry about the appliance issues. That kind of stuff never seems to go as planned. Sounds like you have a job going on with Erin. Good for you though for not giving up. I see a lot of parents at your stage of life, throw up their arms and say "I'm done". I know it is tempting, but maybe not the wisest thing to do. Hang in there. I didn't know Sean was out of work. I pray he can find the right job for him.
GF, I'm sure old Judd has him some talent too. They sure are fun. I can't wait for Romeena to get her new companion.
MDC, I hope your soil is easy digging so your repair goes well. Gf and I offer you our moral support. lol
Romeena, I pray your back pain is not getting you down. I know how miserable that can be. I turn into a miserable son of a gun when mine is hurting. I am a lousy patient.
Frankie, What other projects do you have planned? It has been enjoyable to read your improvements you are making.
Speaking of that, I guess I best get off my rear end and get some things done around here. There is always something to do. 10-4?

How-do, porch! My clock says it's just past noon, but it's early morning for me. I was up until nearly 5 a.m, doing a little writing, finally went to bed and slept until the phone rang at 11:30. Actual time means little around here, I just do as I please, when I please. I've always been a night owl, and those last 17 years before I retired, working 7 pm to 7:30 am, just reinforced that. It seems like my imagination kicks in when my head hits the pillow, and ideas start flying around, and sometimes the only way I can quiet it down is to get up and write it all down. Many a story has been written in the wee hours of the morning.
Boo, I can't imagine you're already replacing your kitchen appliances. It seems to me it was just a few years ago that they were all new. Time sure does fly by, doesn't it? Kinda makes my kitchen seem old and shabby, and I guess it is. I've been in this house for 46 years, and my dishwasher was just replaced a few years ago, and is running fine. My washer and dryer are 24 years old (Maytags) my twin full-size ovens are built in and are original, and my cooktop has been replaced once. My disposer is new, the third one. My fridge is also the third one, about ten years old and I'd like to have a new, fancy one, but at my age and stage of life, it doesn't seem very practical. It works fine, makes ice and all, but it's just a bit dinky by today's standards.
Asa, actually I'm having some pretty annoying issues with my back. It's not so much a backache as such. The progression of the scoliosis, which I've had all my life but wasn't noticeable and didn't bother me until the last few years, is becoming more visible and is bothering me a lot. The best way to describe it is that my upper body is sort of telescoping or something. My ribs on the left side are rubbing on my hipbone, and it hurts. They also, at times, slide over each other, and that hurts. At times, the muscles go into spasm on that side as well. I saw my back surgeon last week, and he said there's nothing he can do. The surgery to straighten and stabilize my spine is huge, involving parallel rods from neck to sacrum, is often not successful, and he refuses to do it, especially at my age and involving old bones that might not hold all the screws. I agree. I will not do that. A friend at church had that surgery about four years ago, went through months of misery trying to recover, and is now bent sharply to one side and walks with a cane, much worse off than I am. The doc has, however, referred me to a pain management specialist. I'll be having a CT in the next few days, possibly some injections for nerve ablation, though I'd prefer not to do that. I want to treat the cause, not the symptom. It's possible that we might remove a lower rib or two, and I'll agree to that if it will solve the problem. I cannot, and will not, take any kind of pain pills, other than OTC things, and precious few of those. Any of the opioids, and I mean ANY of them, cause hallucinations and violent nausea, so I throw up the pills before they're fully absorbed, and I'm left with pain and nausea both. Is a puzzlement!
I am sitting at my window, watching six, yes 6, huge and beautiful butterflies as they chase each other around my stand of zinnias out back, trying to defend their territory, I guess. They're all swallowtails, just enormous and so pretty. I've had a big buddleia (butterfly bush) out there for years, and it draws a butterfly or two, but nothing like that bed full of zinnias! Who knew?? I will plant zinnias every spring now, for sure. Also, there are two 8" lizards on the sycamore tree, chasing each other around and around the trunk. I'm not sure if it's a romantic pursuit, or if it's a territorial battle, (boy and girl lizards all look pretty much alike) but they sure are funny! I declare, I wouldn't take a dollar and a quarter for this window!
I should be able to go to the breeder later this week and choose my new little angel. I'll leave the toy I've been carrying with me everywhere, so she can get used to my scent and the scent of my home. I'll go back next week and pick her up, and I'll be familiar to her and the house will be familiar as well. It worked so well with Toye Starr, that baby slept all night and never cried once when I brought her home. I'm considering two names (I may have told you this) - "Trinket" and "Dinah Mite." I won't know until I meet her, and even then, something entirely different may suggest itself. Such fun!!
Sarah, I hope you'll quit just listening in and join us here on the porch. Maybe you should retire and let someone else man the switchboard, so you can spend more time visiting. Naaah, it wouldn't be the same without you on the line, but do find time to join in. You're most welcome!
Well, guess I'd better quit hogging the porch. Let's all meet at the diner this evening for dinner. I hear the cook made a trip to Raleigh and got some new ideas. Blessings! --Romeena
