Frankie, it is already getting up in the 90s here in south texas. the weatherman was saying he is worried if it is already so hot.
Well, been a long day. I didn't sleep well and was up early plus worked this evening. I usually get a nap before work but St. Susan called me at nap time and was crying on the phone, which really scared me! Turns out her dog, Molly, died unexpectedly and Susan was home alone at the time. Bless her heart. The dog was almost 12 but they weren't aware of any health issues. From what I could figure, the dog had pulmonary edema so maybe heart failure. She had been eating and seemed ok that morning, just layed down and died. I ended up going over there and being "doggy coroner" because Susan wouldn't let her husband bury the dog until I had pronounced it dead. She had a fear of burying the dog and it being in a coma or something. I told her I was 1000% certain that the dog was dead...and it was. When I asked her what happened, exactly, she said the dog, "burped, f@rted, and died."..now, I had a little trouble not laughing but I managed (nurses have a dark sense of humor at times like that). Anyway, I called Susan from work this evening and she is doing much better. She is just lonely because this is the first time in almost 20 years that she has been dog-free.
The talk of the Waffle House has my stomach growling. My last taste of bacon before becoming vegan was at a Waffle House near Houston. It was one of the best meals I ever had, seriously. It was late night and Bruce and I were having a late dinner. I had a big waffle with butter and syrup, some crisp bacon, a biscuit with grave, and a big glass of milk...burp! Boy, was it good.
Better go put my feet up for a bit before bed..maybe watch some TAGs..or some Everybody Loves Raymond. Sean bought me the complete series of the show for Mother's Day...did I already tell you all that?
Adios!

Boo, sorry to hear about your friend Susan. I was just a wreak when I had to put my dog down due to cancer and he was 15 but still in great shape. I cried for weeks, it just broke my heart. Any having to take him to the vet by myself made it so much harder. I decided not to get another dog even though we had always had dogs. I told Mom I don`t think I can handle it right now.
Took Mom to her Dr. appointment today and it went good. I had a company come and pick us up in there van and transport us since Mom is not steady enough to get in and out of the car. Worked out real good to just roll her wheelchair right in the van and the man waited for us and brought us straight home. It is always better to be safe.
MDC, good to hear the carpets are all done. That is a lot of work.

Boo, so sorry to read about Susan's loss. That is always so difficult. When our little Barney passed away last fall we were heart broken for sure. I am waiting until I retire before getting another fur friend. You said he burped, f@rted and died. Then you said after your Waffle House meal you burped. I'm glad you stopped at burping. :)
MDC, Nice clean carpets, a freshly painted garage floor, and a recently repaired sprinkling system. Man oh man, you are living tall my friend! Did you make your appointment with your Doctor? Concerning working on the roof on Evap. coolers, Most all of our buildings are 20 feet high and flat. But I use a Genie boom lift to get on them. Makes it very nice. I can swing that basket right over the top and just step out on the roof. Very handy when having to haul up tools, parts, and other stuff.
I hope GF is driving safe if Tom let him out of the big house.

May 19, 2018 - Msg 109855:
Dear Lord! Another one?? What is going on in our world, indeed! I think I know, and I'll bet you all do, too. We have removed God from the schools, and from sporting events, and from society in general. This is what the world looks like, without God in it. Not very pretty, is it? And yet the Godless ones march on. How blind can they be?
Human nature, without God's influence, is wicked, self-seeking, vengeful, often brutal. God changes all that, and gives us a new nature. He teaches love, kindness, charity, respect, forbearance - everything that a Godless life lacks. That's not to say that those who don't have God in their life will all be criminals, or that everyone who knows God will be a saint - certainly not, but the general trend will be there.
On the human level, what can we do? Well, apparently outlawing guns won't help much, as this link indicates: https://tinyurl.com/ycj8x9of. Of course, the gun-grabbers say that outlawing guns would mean that no one would have one, and gun-free zones wouldn't be needed. Right, and Prohibition meant that no one had access to alcohol, and we don't have a drug problem in the U.S. today, because drugs are illegal. Nonsense. Criminals will always have guns, and a big black-market will open up for the sale of them. For those who don't want to "break the law" and own a gun, there are other ways to commit mayhem. Bombs, knives, motor vehicles (remember Toronto?), arson, poisoning, whatever. Evil will find a way.
I think one at least partial remedy is to stop giving these troubled, crazy people their little moment in the spotlight. No pictures, no videos, no fanfare. Call them "unnamed suspect" in reports. Almost without exception, the perpetrators have been social misfits who felt left out, ignored. They see others get a lot of recognition for their terrible deed, and they see it as a way to get some recognition for themselves. They really don't care what follows - prison, execution, whatever. They just want to be noticed. That's pitiful, but it's true.
The obvious next step is for our society to be watchful for these misfits, and reach out to them, give them some attention and some direction before they reach that point of desperation. Hmmm. That sounds like a job for the people of God. --Romeena

Yes, I think we are FINALLY done with house remodeling. We have updated and/or fixed up both the inside and outside.
It was 40 years ago this week that we moved into this house. It is solid block construction, as opposed to all the 'stick and stucco' of today's homes.
I meet with the surgeon the first week of June, and will keep y'all posted.
This coming week we are flying to Fresno, then driving 40 miles to the east to Sequoia National Park to see the 3000 year old redwoods!! I saw them as a kid, and Cecile has never seen them, so it should be a neat little trip!
That's it for now.
God bless,

Mornin' Dears! Hope everyone is blessed this Sunday morning. It is shaping up to be a beautiful, sunny and hot day here in south texas but I'm not complaining. Bruce did his every 3 month cleaning and bleaching of the porches and porch furniture yesterday and the place sparkles. He has the flowerbeds ready for planting and we will be shopping for some plants today. I just hope we can find things the cutter ants don't want to eat.
A word of caution, MDC...if I recall (it has been quite a while), but I and my mom got motion sickness at Sequoia. It is beautiful but the roads have lots of hairpins turns and we got sick. I still remember my mom getting out of the car and throwing up. We didn't have anything in the car for her to wipe her mouth with so she wiped it with a dirty sock. LOL..poor mom. If it was Sequoia I am thinking about..and not redwood forrest..not sure, but take some Dramamine just in case...eat light, and take some water and a dirty sock (jk).
Well, cant talk long..have to pick Erin up from a friends and finish getting ready for preaching.

Good morning, porch. I didn't make it to preaching this morning. For the last couple of weeks or so, I've been waking up with a very disturbing pain in my back. It lasts for about two or three hours, then gradually fades. It feels like - and I hate to use this analogy - it feels like a hot knife stuck in my back, just below my left shoulder blade. I can remember hearing my mom, her sister and my grandmom all use that description, and I would privately think they were being just a bit melodramatic. Well, now I know. They all had similar back problems to those I have - scoliosis, mostly - and I guess that explains it. I think it has something to do with a position I slept in, but haven't been able to determine exactly what position that is - back, left side, right side, I try them all at some point, but can't figure out which one is causing the pain. OK, gripe session over.
Boo, I remember some of those switchbacks in the Sequoia area. Even worse were the roads going up Pike's Peak. My family took a trip out there when I was about fifteen, and my grandparents went with us. I remember my grandma looking out the window on the outside of some of those hairpin switchbacks, and all she would say was "Oh, Jimmy!" over and over. "Jimmy" was my dad, who was driving, of course. She was terrified, poor little thing, but I don't recall her ever getting sick during that trip.
Well, guess I'll go get in my wheeler-ette and see if I can relax this thing out of my back. Looks like we're going to get some serious rain today. I hope so. Have been having to rely on the sprinklers, and my water bill is going to be ugly. Blessings, porch. --Romeena

Romeena, So sorry about the backache. How old is your mattress? Maybe it's time for a new one. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just get some of Emma's pills and one would make it all better. Sure does sound like how your sleeping though.
You were talking about your water bill being high due to outdoor use, one of the nice things we have here is pressurized secondary water. This is untreated river water that is delivered through pipes to our properties and is pressurized. Seeing how it is untreated river water, it does not have a large cost. In fact as a user I had to sign over a half share of water to the water district, and pay a connection fee. In return I have a 1 inch connection on my property that is unmetered. I pay a yearly charge of $180.00 with my property taxes. The water is available from mid April until about mid October. Where I live we have great water pressure to boot. So much in fact I had to install a pressure regulator on my system as it was exceeding 90 PSI at times. In our hot dry summers here, it is a real blessing.
Have fun on the trip MDC. I hope you don't get sick like Boo's Mom did. I might pack a clean sock just in case though. :)

May 20, 2018 - Msg 109865:
Good afternoon, porch. The pain in my back is better, as it always is by early afternoon, and for that I'm grateful.
I'll be going over to Eloise's in a little while, to catch a ride to Ft. Worth with her and Jerry. I'm glad, because we're going to Bass Hall in downtown Ft. Worth, and I absolutely hate driving in Dallas or Ft. Worth, either one. I'm so used to Irving, which is much, much smaller and I just don't drive into the big cities much anymore. Too busy.
We're going to hear our grandson, Hudson, play his bassoon with the Ft. Worth Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. That kid just gets better and better with that bassoon. I just learned how he placed in an audition recently. It was an audition for places in one of the high school orchestras. They have four, I don't know their names, and one of them is considered the top, the "big time" so to speak. So this eighth-grade kid, who will enter the high school in September auditioned, and guess what? He not only got into the top-rated orchestra, but he won first chair. Admittedly, since there will only be two or three bassoons in the orchestra, he had a good shot at it, but he was auditioning against juniors and seniors. He's been playing for two years now, and some of those kids have been playing for four years or more. The fact is, he's good, and that will almost certainly translate to a full scholarship at any college that has an orchestra, which is most of them. This kid is our introvert, the one that sat and played with Legos and never opened his mouth when he was little, plays his phone games now and is silent most of the time. Occasionally, he'll offer a comment on whatever the conversation is about, and it's generally a well-thought-out comment, makes good sense, and leaves a lot of us adults wondering why we didn't think of that. He's in the 99th percentile in his school, takes all AP classes, and will do the same in high school. He'll probably have his first year of college about done by the time he graduates high school. We are still wondering whether he was switched at birth! OK, I'll stop bragging, but what good is being a grandma if you don't brag on a kid like that? --Romeena

May 21, 2018 - Msg 109873:
Good morning, porch! MDC, thanks for the comment about our common enemy, that miserable back pain. You may be onto something. I've noticed that it seems to be at its worst when I wake up on my left side. A herniated disc is definitely a possibility, with my rickety back. I've had sequential CT scans of my thoracic area, to follow up on a questionable enlarged lymph node. I know the spine would be visible in those scans, but not being what they were looking for, the disc could have been overlooked. I'll get my pulmonologist friend to review those scans.
As for a chiro, I'm hesitant. With the fusion in my neck, and the total rebuild that was done in the sacral plate, I have concerns that damage could be done to those areas. I've called my spine surgeon's office to get his opinion, but he was out of town and hasn't called me back yet. Honestly, getting old is sometimes no fun, but the alternative is not attractive either, so guess I'll just adapt and keep going.
The concert last night was beautiful. Hudson looked so handsome in his tux, and honestly, those kids sounded like a big-time orchestra. Amazing what they can do. Oh, a little 14-year old Asian girl played the violin as a guest artist, and she's just unbelievable. Her name is Pui Ping Wong, she's about as big as a minute, and she got music out of that violin that was just amazing. She is definitely a prodigy. If you Google her, you'll find some You Tube videos of her playing. You'll also find her name given as Pui Ying Wong. I don't know why.
Now, to A Friend, may I suggest you return to your Bible and read? Throughout the Book, you will find references to God making all things new. We will be made perfect in His sight, in His time. Our time on this earth is just like the blink of an eye, but in eternity, which has no end, all things (including us, if we trust in Him) will be made perfect, and memories of our time on this earth won't matter anymore. Hang in there, friend. --Romeena

Good to hear from you, G-F, and glad you had a good time! Who is Dixie Griffith?
All this talk of back issues..just a product of aging, I guess. I know I have a couple of chronic back issues..well, at least a couple, from years of pushing occupied beds at work, etc. Just the way it is, I guess. The chiropractor pretty much told me he couldn't do me a lot of good since my main problem is caused by a bone spur. I still go to get "cracked" now and the, though.
MDC, I have been to Glenrose but it has been so many years that I really don't remember it. I think we went through there on one of trips to Michigan when I was a child because I remember something about the dinosaurs. Got to get ready to go into town with St. Susan this morning. Talk to you all later.

Boo -
I had an idea for Erin. Is she involved in anything creative? Poetry? Music? Photography? Any arts? For several years, I have been reading books by a writer/director/screenwriter named Julia Cameron. Her books has changed a lot of lives and helped people find their true creative calling by not only finding their artist within, but finding themselves too. The foundation of her books is something called "Morning Pages." It is where you have to find the discipline to sit down and write three pages of thoughts every morning. Kind of a "emptying" of the soul and mind. When you write these three pages, you are supposed to just write. Don't think about it, just write. Your fears, worries, loves, likes, fears, opinions, etc. You just sit and let your mind pour out without thought. Let brain move straight to pen. These books are "The Artist's Way", "Walking In This World" and "Finding Water." They are a three part "series" you read in that order. These books really teach you to get in touch with yourself in a variety of healthy ways to bring out the artist inside you. She encourages ANYone who has ever thought of making anything creative to give it a try. Their are exercises in each chapter. She also uses God alot as who he is and as a reminder that, as he is the creator of all, he is also Good Orderly Direction. You might Google these or try your library. She might be able to find herself by releasing a lot of things while also finding and encouraging her own interests.
I was reading one of my books just now and thought of you and her.

Well I'd love to sit and chat, but I have pressing issues I must deal with. So prayers for all.

MDC, Yes the vans work great for transporting wheelchairs. Was so easy for both of us.
Asa, How is that new fridge and freezer working.
Hey to John Masters.
Enjoying some nice weather this week. Next week should be all 90`s plus.
Good nite Porch.

Thanks John Masters. One of Erin's ways of coping for the past few years is through writing, and she is good at it. I will check out the writer you mention, thank you.
Asa, I am waiting to get Erin in to the ENT. She has been complaining more about it and is having so much trouble breathing through her nose that I suspect she may require some surgery but I certainly hope not. Thanks for your concern. I hope you are doing ok, Asa, and that those pressing issues aren't too pressing. God be with you.
Well, been a busy day for me catching up with chores around here but I don't mind. I like staying busy when I am around the house. Hope the rest of you have had a good day.

Morning all.
Hey Boo, thanks for the prayers. I made my post overly dramatic I guess. When I said I had some "pressing issues" I had to resolve, I just needed to go potty. lol But your prayers are always appreciated, no matter what the issues are. :) And you have my prayers for Erin and Bruce.
Frankie, the new equipment seems to be doing fine indeed. They have some features that are nice, such as a digital temp. read out right on the door. Us HVAC fellers love numbers, 10-4 GF? Makes us feel important. :) We are supposed to be pushing the 90's today and tomorrow, but then have a nice cooldown for the weekend.
I guess I better get moving. Lots to do.
Prayers for everybody.

Oh, my! Spot, please give Mrs. Spot my sympathies. I sprained my ankle a long time ago, a very bad sprain, and it was miserable. Actually, it was the third sprain I'd had, one on each ankle previously, but that last one made a believer out of me. When the doc said no weight bearing for two weeks, he meant it! I thought it would be like the first two, and tried it out after about three days - Uh, no, big mistake! The pain brought tears to my eyes, and that's not something that happens easily. The little event was so memorable that it actually earned mention in my book. So, baby her, wait on her, and believe her if she says it really hurts. There are degrees of sprain, but if hers is bad, it's going to be a rough couple of weeks.
Well, guess I'll turn in. Toye Starr is heaving her little sighs, telling me it's time for bed. Since she is the boss of the house, I suppose I'll make her happy. Mercy, I love that adorable little thing! Blessings, all. --Romeena

Happy Memorial Day weekend, Porchsters!
Happy Birthday, TOM! Wow, Memorial Day weekend and birthday weekend all in one!
Well wishes to Mrs. SPOT.
When you celebrate Memorial Day weekend, please don't forget our fighting boys from the American Revolution! Seems they kinda get shoved to the back burner over this weekend. I hope to somehow, someday get a project going to recognize them a little more then they are. Remember..."*deep inhale* It was a sight to see!"
Have a safe and happy weekend to Romeena, Asa, G-F, Boo, Maude, Frankie, MDC, possum and everyone else that pledged $150 for the church organ.

Hey, TOM! You know what? Since computers and email have been around, people are using the mail and sending cards a lot less than we used to do. However, I just checked back here on the porch and counted four - yep, four - people who wished you a Happy Birthday! They may not have arrived in your mailbox, but they were sincere. Four people wished you a happy birthday. I think that's pretty good. I'm sorry you were disappointed, but try to count your blessings. Lots of folks here on this porch love you, TOM, and wish you the very best. --Romeena

HELLO ALL, I'm back! We flew back to Phx after 4 cool days at Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks! Cecile was amazed at the huge redwoods. The
General Sherman is the biggest tree in the world.
If it were to be cut down, it would provide framing lumber for 2000 average size homes!
That's big, really BIG. :)
We had a great time, with interesting weather.
At 8000 ft one day it was 79 degrees, and the next day at that level it was 39, cold, rainy, and windy!
I hope you all have a great memorial day. I post this link each year, but it is such a moving tribute to our fallen soldiers, it is worth the few minutes to view it.
God bless the USA! :)

MDC, Glad you got home safe and had a good time buddy. I hope you enjoyed that 39 degrees because you ain't gonne see it again in a while I suspect. Enjoyed your link.
GF, I wasn't able to get your link to open for whatever reason. Not sure why.
Was nice and cool yesterday with a few rain showers coming and going. Supposed to be the same today. The kind of weather I really like.
Well I hope everyone has a spectacular day and is safe.
