Deep subjects being discussed. You know the old saying about how when you drop a pebble in the pond, the rings go on and on, well, with suicide it is more like dropping in a boulder. The immediate effects on the family and friends is horrific and it just goes on in waves for sometimes years (as in Asa's case). I sometimes wonder how the murder/suicide that happened next door last summer will effect me in the future. I can look at the house now without feeling like I swallowed a brick and it is getting better. I cant even imaging what it would be like if I was very close or a relative of the man. I do miss the little girl, Maddie, though. She was precious. I did get some very good news about the surviving sister, though.
March 03, 2017 - Msg 106956:
oops...hit the post button...anyway, the older sister, Emily contacted Erin this past week and they talked for an hour. Turns out Emily is attending a private Christian school in North Carolina, where she lives with her aunt and uncle. She is going to church and loves the Lord. Erin said she sounds like a preacher. This is a reason to rejoice because that child was headed down a really bad path while living with her alcoholic mother and step father. It is an example of how something good can come out of something so terrible. I feel better knowing Maddie is with Jesus and someday Emily will be too.
Well, wanted to chat longer but have to go tend to some sick kids.

It's natural that you would feel that way for a while, but life goes on, and eventually the heavy cloud lifts. Thank God for that aunt and uncle who are providing a home for Emily. It sounds they're giving her the stability and teaching her the basic values she's never known.

Had a good shift at work tonight but wanted to ask those of you who feel led to pray for a young man named Christian that was admitted 3 days ago. He is the saddest case I have seen there in going on 3 years. Bad meth and heroine addict, covered with self cutting marks and abcesses on his arms from all the dirty needles..very thin. I treated him for scabies tonight from living on the streets and I noticed a tattoo on his hand that said, "Lost". I wanted to cry when I saw it. I had a few minutes to talk to him as I walked him back to his unit and he said he didn't have a higher power really, that he just believed in a force in the universe. I talked to him briefly about Jesus and encouraged him to attend the bible study. You should have heard this young man as he spoke..he sounded very intelligent and just had a way of communicated that you would not expect. He had been abused early in life and continues to abuse himself, selling himself on the streets to get his drugs. He has been in and out of several rehabs and wants to quit and stay off the streets. He talked about the terrible things he saw there and the terrible things he did to get his drugs. It was so pitiful. Please remember him with a prayer when you read this..that his heart would be open and Jesus would reveal himself to the boy. It's his only hope.

Thanks for those prayers for Christian. I saw him briefly today, as I wasn't his nurse, but I asked how he was doing and he looked pretty bad. He is going through the heroin withdrawals which, as you would imagine, is no easy thing. The boy's nurse talked to his mother on the phone today and the poor mom was crying. My heart breaks for her.
It continues to be unseasonably warm here in south texas and all the wildflowers are blooming already. I guess there isn't much chance of any cold weather until next year. The weather man said we average 18 days in February that were 80 degrees or above. Crazy.
Not a lot of news on my end of the porch. Sean is still sick but getting better. Erin is well now. I am just hoping I don't get it..no time for that nonsense. :)
I was disappointed last night because FX channel started a new mini series called Joan and Betty (about the famous feud between Joan Crawford and Betty Davis during the filming of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane). I just love Joan and Betty movies so I was looking forward to it but about 15 minutes in, I just couldn't take the language...the f bomb, the G-D. Makes me sick. Why do they have to do that? The entertainment industry is almost at rock bottom. What's next?..don't answer that.

Also, regarding Sean, when I was his age, 5 of of us college kids drove straight thru from Phx to Atlanta to watch ASU play in the Peach Bowl. We watched the game, and then drove straight back. 37 hours each way! It was a lot of fun trying to sleep in the car (we rented a big LTD) and then taking turns driving, but man, once we were home, I crashed and was sick as a dog for a week. I think my immune system
was shot from the long hours, junk food, etc.
So I'm guessing Sean may be going thru the same type of thing. Give him chicken soup etc to build up his immune sys, lots of protein, etc.

Morning all.
Hey Boo, Prayers for Christian. Those stories are so very sad. I hope Sean is doing better. I must have caught the same cold. This is like the third one this season for me. Getting old I tell ya.
Your description of what you heard on tv is why I am sick of hollyweird. It is a blemish on our moral fabric. But I should not put them all in the same boat I suppose. I was just reading a story out of Salt Lake about a young man in his 20's who has Downs syndrome, and has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer I think it was. Is not expected to live long. Anyway, he is a huge Chuck Norris fan, so his Mom wrote a letter wondering if he was ever in Salt Lake he might take a moment to pay him a visit, not really expecting a response. Well she received a phone call a few days later from Chuck Norris. It just so happened he was in town that day shooting some commercials. He had just arrived and was wondering if he could come right over to visit. So he and his lovely Wife made a surprise visit to the young man and just made his entire year, I bet. So not everyone in the entertainment business are scoundrels.
We got more snow yesterday, but supposed to warm up to the 60's by Wednesday. I'm all over that!
I went with my youngest Daughter to do some Birthday shopping yesterday for my oldest Grand Daughter who turns 11 on the 12th. (Mariah) Can you believe she is that old? Anyway, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch and had a nice chat. Her and Matt own a number of homes now, and rent them out. They had one they just had to evict because of constant late payments and other things they were doing. Anyway, they finally vacated the home two days ago. Matt went in to see what it would need, oh brother, what a mess. They actually stole 8 interior doors from the home, light fixtures, and some plumbing fixtures. So they have decided they are going to sue the woman who rented it. I guess it's just a mess. Too bad folks have to be that way.
Well better get my rear in gear. R.I.G. 10-4 G.F.?

We once had a house where the tenants had a elaborate growing system set up ( and they were NOT growing tomatoes if you know what I mean!)... They had 2 pit bull dogs guarding the operation. They only used it for their "operation" but the long arm of the law caught up to them and they were sent to the pokie.
By the time the legal system played out and we could take back possession it was WRECKED the dogs were starved and they ate holes in the doors and everything and anything they could eat... Plus all the "fall-out" of that! So I don't need to go into detail...10-4?

Morning, Dear, Morning, Honey!
LOL! Good morning, Porch friends. Sorry it has been a bit between visits. Lot going on here as my wife and I had to sell our two pet pigs and we are pretty devastated. Yeah, I know...PET pigs. We were going to keep them as pets and get a male to breed and sell the babies, so the two females would be with us 'til they died. But they got way bigger than we thought and, in a year's time, they broke out (dug actually) of their pen around 10 times. I didnt have the materials and we didnt have the money to keep patching everywhere they were getting out, so we couldnt keep them anymore. We are saddened because we sold them to a couple who were going to butcher them for meat. It's been a week and we are still hurt. Their pen sits out in our yard empty.
Secondly, my riding mower is dead! It was a "sucker" mower (as being the sucker) and it was actually a lemon from the get go. We just didnt know it. We thought the guy we bought it from was reputable, but... We have had it fixed three times in a year and now it's dead. Motor won't even click, much less turn over. We are on a TIGHT budget and now up a creek as the grass is starting to grow.
Boo - Sorry to hear about the young drug addict. I sincerely hopes he can find a road that leads him the whole other direction. I understand you were taken back by the Joan and Bette language, but remember...from what I have read and heard about them, they could cuss with the best of sailors! LOL! My best wishes to your kid's health!
Asa - My aunt's husband (not really my uncle) is a landlord and he rented to my cousin (my aunt's son) and he destroyed a place that her husband was letting him live in for free! FREE! Rent Free! She told my mother that her mouth hit the floor when they saw it after kicking him out! She said it looked like a tornado hit it from the inside. The kicker...her husband is dying of cancer, but in there making the repairs and almost rebuilding it from the inside!
Rode out the storms last night with my dad in his wheelchair ready to go out to the storm shelter. Lots of damage around my former hometown of Kansas City, but here in mid southern Missouri, just a good shaking and rumbling with no damage or consequences!
Better git as the day is creeping up on me! hey to Romeena, G-F, TOM, SPOT, Maude, MDC and everyone else arrested by Warren for playing Bingo! Hope you all have a great day!

Good afternoon, porch. I am sitting here at my window, in total disbelief and disgust, watching a crew of tree-trimmers demolish two stately elm trees in the back yard of the house directly behind me. The trees are (were) perfectly healthy. I have watched carefully as they saw through large limbs and sections of the trunks, and so far have seen no sign of decay or disease in any of the heartwood as it is exposed. The woman who lived there died a few months ago, and the property passed to her daughter, who lives across the street. I cannot imagine why she has decided to cut down those two beautiful trees, but it's heartbreaking. There were several squirrel nests in those trees, and undoubtedly many baby squirrels are now homeless, if they survived the trip to the ground when their limb was cut from the tree. Baby squirrels around here are typically born in February. I have spent many enjoyable hours at my window, watching squirrels race and chase each other through those trees. So sad. It looks so bare and forlorn back there now.
Two big irises have opened. One is on my "favorite" list - Rock Star. It blooms early, blooms long, and is so pretty. It also spreads and multiplies, and I've divided shared it a couple of times. The other is a purple and white and is fragrant. These two are just the beginning, there are about 50 to 75 more plants around the yard, so should be really pretty in a couple of seeks. Also, the amaryllis that we've planted over the years after they bloom inside in the winter, are sending up bloom stalks with fat buds enclosed. Another three weeks or so, and they'll be putting on a spectacular show. Some pink snapdragons have appeared from nowhere, coming back from last year, and they're gorgeous. I love flowers!
John Masters, could you swing the rental for a couple of hours on a lawnmower? I have no idea what that would cost, might be more than I'd think, but it's an idea. Another idea - have you ever had a garage sale? I've done it a few times over the years, and the least I ever made was $150, the most over $1,000. In that one, I sold a couple of pieces of furniture that I was replacing, which ran the take up a lot, but you can make a couple of hundred easily, just by cleaning out closets. People will buy clothes. If they're clean and in decent shape, people will buy them. Dig way to the back in kitchen cabinets too. You'll find things you haven't used in years, and you might as well sell them. I need to do that right now, as a matter of fact. I love to go to garage sales, and often do. I buy casserole dishes, especially if they have a lid. Then when I have to take a dish to a sick friend, I use one of those dishes, probably paid about a dollar for it, and I just tell the recipient to keep it, fill it up and take it to someone else later on. The point is, things like that will sell, and it all adds up.
Well, guess I'll go water something. The plants in the sunroom are getting a little dry. Also need to prune off the suckers coming up around the base of a crape myrtle. It will be a small shrub if I don't keep it pruned. If I do, it will make a small and lovely tree. Don't need a shrub, so it shall become a tree. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Really sorry about your pet pigs, John Masters. I have heard of a lot of folks who had pet pigs that got much larger than they expected and they had to find other homes for them. Nearly 10 years ago, near where my parents lived, someone abandoned one on their place after they moved. The poor old girl was pretty huge and very old. She was trying to forage for food but was hungry. We left food for her and called the city. They said they would trap her and find her a place to live. I guess her previous owners just didn't care anymore. Sad.
Ro, I just hate that about the trees. I have been sad about what is going on in my neighborhood, too. A company bought up around 40 acres up the street from us and are clearing it for a housing subdivision. It had been home for deer, hogs, foxes, raccoons, etc. I just hate that.
MDC, I think that is just what happened to Sean..he was pretty sleep deprived and really worn out, not to mention the stress of the trip, just got his immune system down. He is doing much better today, though.
I am really hoping I don't catch it..so far, so good. I have to take Erin to San Antonio on Saturday to be in a friend's Quincenera..not sure I spelled that right.

Evening, folks!
Romeena - Living where we do out in the country, that would be a small haul to rent one, plus the wife and I have a Dodge Journey and would have to call her dad, who lives an hour away, to use HIS truck for back and forth rentals. As far as raising money with a garage sale, that's somewhat close. As I said, we live out in the country and dont think a garage sale would be very profitable. However, we are pulling garage sale type of stuff and posting it online. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions! I am sad to hear about those trees as well! I hate when people do stuff like that! Seems the destructive way out of things is the easiest for some no matter what the circumstances. be it trees or buildings, woods or structures, they have to find the nearest wrecking ball / chainsaw and done they come!
Boo - Thanks for the condolences. We are pretty heartbroken. I was around them WAY more than my wife. I fed and watered them, made sure they had deep thick hay in a little hut that the former tenants of our home left behind for those deep freeze nights. I talked to them sometimes as they would grunt and snort at me. They also would run around their pen real fast when I mowed around the outside of their pen. I feel so empty because I made sure they were protected thru harsh weather and were fed and watered properly. Now....well...even though THEY dont know it, I feel I let them down. That empty pen is very loud. My wife doesnt even look down there as she is trying to take the "tough" way out and not think about it. cant say I blame her.
Well, that's about it from here. "Good nights" all around. Hope everyone has a restful night and I will be back asap!

Good morning, porch. John Masters, I can identify with your feelings about giving away the two pigs. First of all, there was a time when I thought I just HAD to have a little potbelly piglet. They were being sold at the state fair, and they were the cutest little things ever. Tiny, and sooo cute! I told Dale I wanted one, and as usual, he didn't refuse. However, he did have one request. Let the idea rest for the moment, and then in a year, if I still wanted one, we would return to the fair when it opened and get one. I agreed. Well, by the time the next fair opened, there was no way I wanted one of those little pigs. I knew a couple of people who had gotten one or more, and they were desperately trying to find someone who would take them off their hands. Those tiny, cute little piglets had grown into big old porkers, and were causing all kinds of trouble. So, thanks to Dale, I dodged that bullet.
However, when I was a teenager, we lived in the country and my parents got my little brother a pet lamb. Adorable, of course, followed my brother like a little dog, and so cute. However, my brother had allergies, and we discovered that wool was one of his triggers. He actually got in-the-bed sick from wool, and it never dawned on my parents that wool comes from sheep, including innocent little lambs! So, the lamb had to go. My dad gave it to an acquaintance who said it would be his daughter's pet. We learned shortly thereafter that his family ate it! My brother is 68 now and I don't think he has gotten over that yet, and I absolutely will not eat lamb. So, I hear you!
Well, better get moving. A few errands to run, and then meet up with some friends at 11:00 to go get some lunch, and then we're going to go see "The Shack." I've read the review, not sure just how I'm going to react to it, but it could be really good. Apparently, it gets mixed reactions from people, very controversial. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

MDC - Dogggone allerigies!!! I am a long time veteran of allergies. had them all my life. Took allergy shots when I was a kid. Now I take over the counter pills to combat them. My allergies are just bullies! LOL! They come and go, with warning, without reason, ANY time they want! I can be outside where the wind is blowing hay, grass, dirt, and everything else farm life has to offer, and not have even an itch in the nose. BUT...I can walk into my garage and fall apart! The VERY next day, the opposite happens! It's freaky and I hate it! I told my mother that we should've had this allergy talk WAY before I was born! LOL! Hang in there!
Boo - Hope your cold passes quick!
SPOT - Did you get that live cam link to SunTrust park on entry #106990?
Ok, better go. It's gettin' dark here real quick. Time to do a trouble check with the local radar! Hey to G-F, Maude, possum, TOM, Asa and all you other jaywalkers!

Good evening, porch. Just got home from a long day of mousing around, Eddie was here finishing up my yard, and I took him up to the DART train station. Poor guy, he just can't seem to get his truck running, has left his tools in my back yard in the arbor, and rides the train out here. I think he takes a bus from the station to the stop about three blocks from my house, and then when he's finished, I just take him to the station. I hope he gets it fixed soon, to make it a lot easier on him, and so I can get my arbor back!
Well, five of us went and saw "The Shack" this afternoon. In my opinion, it was excellent. It's very deep and probing, and will no doubt raise some objections from some people, but I thought it was a fine movie. Good casting, too. There will be some people who will object to a few concepts that veer from the traditional, such as a female manifestation of God, but notice I didn't say it presents God as being a woman, but rather that there is a female manifestation, or representation, of God. If you listen to the dialog carefully, you'll understand why that was done. Another favorite thing was the gentle and somewhat oblique explanation of the Trinity, the triune God, the Three-in-one. Very well done. My only complaint, for lack of a better term, was the sound level. Much of the conversation was done in very low, gentle voices, and I had a little trouble understanding, even with my hearing aids. I keep the closed captioning on to watch TV, and it may be that I've grown dependent upon that. Anyway, I would recommend the movie. Not knowing everyone's mindset on such things, I can't guarantee that you'll like it as much as I did, but for the five of us today, it got nothing but very high marks.
John Masters, I'm sorry you battle allergies like that. I'm so blessed, don't have an allergy to my name, not one. Both my sons just suffer with seasonal allergies, and both daughters have a couple of food allergies, but for me - nothing, and I'm grateful.
Well, guess I'll go feed my little furry friend. She's been alone all day, and is camping on my trail right now. She rode along when I took Eddie to the train station. I wasn't about to leave her again, poor little thing. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Good evening, folks
Well, storms that were to the south of me STAYED south of me! About 10 miles separated me and them. Branson, Missouri and surrounding areas had three tornado warnings all overlapping each other (boxes on the radar, that is)!! But, no harm done. *Whew*
Guess it's good night and God bless! Y'all take care and I'll see you tomorrow.

JOHN--Yes, me too, I've had pollen allergies since I was in High school. Here's one for you... about 20 years ago we planted an ash tree in our backyard
for shade because, through those stick tests on my back, I saw that that was one tree that I was NOT allergic to. Well, about 5 years in, I had super bad spring allergies, got re-tested, and it showed that I was now about a +3 allergic to ash!! Go figure. (The tree is still there and great for summer shade, but every spring I get stuffed up.)
ALL--may I please ask your prayers again. The swelling in my operative leg is still pretty significant in my calf and foot, and that is with taking a diuretic, so now I'm thinking possible circulation issues. Your prayers would be most appreciated. I have a check up on Monday with the surgeon. Thanks.
I was watching Little House the other day, and the Ingalls were singing "Old Dan Tucker!" ha
Take care,

Prayers for MDC, I don't know why but several people I know have had post surgery problems lately due to infections ect. That is my biggest fear of having procedures done, especially when it come to having my hip done... Our police chief here in town, who was younger than me and in very good health went in to get his knee done died from infection complications.
So yes prayers for you MDC as you continue on your healing path....
Snow on my end of the porch this morning, the wet heavy kind, that's life here in Ohio! Tomorrow it will probably be in the 70's haha.....Have a Great Day Everyone....

TOM--very strange weather this winter, from hot to cold, and back again. I heard that yesterday in NYC it was 60, and today they have 6 inches of snow! Hang in there buddy.
GF--thanks for your prayers. Infection is not the issue, but the calf swelling is weird. I will
be asking the surgeon on Monday what he thinks.
Our weather today is 88!! What? It's only March folks!
SPOT--get those hot shot crews out there guy!
Hope your storms pass thru soon.
Have a great day being a light to the world! :)

Prayers for you MDC buddy. No 80's here, but pushing the 70's this weekend.
Glad the storms didn't get to serious on you John. What kind of mower do you own? Maybe GF and I can help you troubleshoot it. I have worked on a few of them.
Romeena, did you and your CPAP mask ever come to terms?
Sorry you are getting snow Tom and GF.
Well I am off. Weekend is here.

Evenin' folks!
Asa - That's mighty nice of ya'! I will have to see exactly. See, I bought my mower from a guy that fixes 'em / rebuilds them in his garage and resells them. I got a lemon! It has had a new belt put on and the carbeutor (sp) rebuilt too. The guy that I bought it from put a 20 HP mower in a 17 HP mower! So we have to different companies here. I am thinking about just ponying up the cash for a brand new one. I have 3 acres to mow on a 12 acre farm PLUS I need it to haul things across the 12 acres.
MDC - Prayers, well wishes and good thoughts to you, sir on your calf! My allergy sneeze record is fourteen sneezes in a row! When I was finished, I looked like I had been grief crying for a week. My ex wife thought she was going to have to get me to a hospital! Luckily, it has only happened one time!
Well, from severe Tstorms and tornados and a 71* day yesterday to 80 - 90% chance of snow and rain tomorrow! SERIOUSLY?!?!
Y'all have a great night! Hey to Boo, Romeena, SPOT, TOM, possum, G-F, Maude and all you other investors in the Ross treasure!

Good evening, porch. John Masters, three acres to mow? Need it to haul stuff around a 12 acre farm? Son, you don't need a lawnmower. You need one of those D-R machines, or some such. Something that mows, attaches to a little wagon for hauling, maybe to a small chipper to chop up brush and haul it to a compost pile. You need a small piece of farm machinery! Shop around. Check with Lowe's, they often offer "no interest with an 18-month payout time" for purchases over a certain amount. They may not carry what you need though, but just surf the web - you'll find what you need and I'll bet you can negotiate a no-interest payoff over an extended period.
Asa, I'm still in a love-hate relationship with my CPAP machine. When I manage to get the mask positioned just so, and if it will stay in place as it should, I wake up feeling so much better. More rested, more energy, just better. However, it still tends to move and allow leaks to form, and the astonishing noises it makes will wake me up. One night, the leak developed on the side of the thing, directed a jet of cold air directly into my eye, and when I awoke in the morning that eye looked like I had pinkeye. It was red, swollen, watery and sticky. I washed it in warm water, then in cold, put a cold compress on it for a little while, and by noon it was much better. Apparently I was really sleeping soundly, though, since I didn't wake up when the leak developed. I was supposed to see my doctor next Monday, but his office called this morning and moved my appointment to the 29th. The doc's wife fell and broke her hip yesterday, so he's taking some time off to be with her. I don't blame him. He's a great guy, and I would expect him to do just that. I've known him for 35 years.
Boo, I'm sorry you've got that miserable cold, and hope you're feeling better soon. One advantage to being as old as I am, I don't get colds very often. There are only about 270 known cold viruses, and one episode confers immunity to that virus, so at my age, I've probably had just about all of them. It's unusual now for me to meet a cold virus I haven't already had. Hey, I take my advantages wherever I find them, and I'm grateful for each one, however trivial. The downside is, when I do happen to catch a cold, it's likely to be a de-wa-dilly! I guess as my immunities rise with age, my ability to fight diminishes. Oh well. I'm just grateful to be able to get vertical every morning!
Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Thanks Ro. I was feeling terrible and took 1000mg of vitamin C and drank about 16 ounces of water and started feeling much better within the hour.
I hope you can work out that cpap issue. I have loved mine and slept with it every night for 7 years now. There are many different types of masks so maybe you need to try a few to find the right one. I do have issues with mine leaking sometimes when I turn over but not every night.
