Been a long day. I have been chipping away at the laundry that I have let get behind, taking care of kids and dogs, going to mom in laws to solve some of her problems, going to the store, going to Sean's appointment...whew.

I am a little concerned about Bruce. When he came home today he just looked whipped. He had that look in his eye and I just gave him some space. I think they are really just killing him on the job. I hope and pray he gets selected for the other job he put in for..I think he put in for it..may have been too busy. He is just really tired. Seems like the problems and stress are just ramping up around here for the past few months, but we forge on, trying to cast our cares on the Lord.

Better go..I have one of my fave cousins and his dear wife coming for a visit tomorrow evening. They sometimes come down to go to the beach and they if we are lucky we get to see them one of those evenings. They are just fantastic people and I love them dearly. James is the only son of my Dad's late older brother, Wyatt. His wife, Sheila, is just the best. I think the family likes her even more than James. James is a retired police officer near Houston. Anyway, I am going to make a lemonade pie and some brownies for when everyone is here tomorrow.

Glad to be back with you. Sorry I have been gone so long. I don't want any of you to think the worse of me because I have been writing on my blog but missing visiting here. To tell you the truth, my blood has been boiling and I use it mostly to vent more than having a soapbox.

Boo - So sorry about your trials right now. Erin is in a scary place right now and teens today are at the mercy of many things outside of their parents. It's sounds like your grip is firm and your guidance is everything right now. Keep the faith and keep your focus and I believe everything will be OK. As for your mom in law, my wife and I are taking care of my 87 year old father. He has stage 3 kidney disease, but he has been improving. He will never kick it, but his days of living alone were gone a year ago. Rely on your patience and remember to breathe. With everything you have swirling around you, whether in the bathroom, bedroom or wherever you have a moment alone, just breathe. It does wonders!
Romeena - Your poor little pooch. I hope she mends well and goes through a painless recovery!
MDC - Also glad to hear you kicked your cold! I'm with Asa. When I get a cold, my wife said I need coddlin'! LOL!

February 16, 2017 - Msg 106788: Good evening, porch! Wow! I'm still on an upswing and feelin' good! The entertainment at our JOY dinner tonight was nothing short of fantastic. In the late 60s and early 70s, our church had a youth pastor who must have just been dynamite. We joined the church just a couple of years after he left, so I never knew him, but his name is still well known and mentioned often by our older members. He went on to become the pastor of a church in Ft. Worth, and has been there for about 40 years, will retire this March. Anyway, he's a musician as well as a preacher, and has formed a ukelele band, of all things, among the membership in his church. Apparently, if you want to join the band, he will teach you how to play the ukelele! The youngest person in the group of about 35 people appeared to be in his 50s. Three were over 90! They sing, play the ukelele, and there were two guitars and a harmonica as well. They were just fantastic, funny, and I don't know when I've had so much fun! They will definitely be asked back again. They go in small groups or the whole band, and entertain at nursing homes all over the metroplex. No charge! They also go to churches like ours (we do offer them a "love gift" of cash, and I hope they took it.) Everybody else does who comes to speak or perform at our monthly dinners. Anyway, they were just a blessing. I got pictures, and videos of a couple of numbers. Haven't watched them yet to see how they came out.

John Masters, my little furkid seems to be doing fine. I'm not offering her any dry kibble right now, but she packs away the wet Beneful. She is playful, busy, and doesn't appear any the worse for wear. The capacity for recovery in these little dogs is amazing.

MDC, I'm glad you kicked that cold. You didn't need that, right on the heels of a big surgery. I've been taking Curcumin/black pepper capsules for a few days, and I don't know if it's my imagination, the placebo effect, or what, but I really think it's helping my arthritis. I seem to be moving a little easier, less pain when I first get up, and can walk a little further without my back screaming at me. Now, if I'd just lose about 40 lbs, I'd probably be in pretty good shape!

Well, guess I'll go cuddle little "toothless" and maybe hit the hay a little earlier than usual. Blessings, porch! --Romeena
February 16, 2017 - Msg 106789: BOO--my 'concoction' is simply 1 500 mg Vit C tab, 1 or 2 echinaisia capsules, 1 garlic tab, and one oregano capsule taken three times a day when the first nostril starts to run, I did that the first day, it did switch to the other nostril that night, so I did it a 4th time, and by the next morning it was starting to go away!
My prayers continue for your family, now special prayers for Bruce for sure!
ASA and GF and Billy---so ringers in a church league eh? not good. I bet they also had loaded bats! ha
I was on a bowling league in the 80s and was pretty good with a high game of 256!
RO--prayers for your little Toye Starr, poor little thing. I have heard that animals handle such pretty well however.
I had a check-up today with the surgeon. It has now been one month since the operation. I finally
got to lose the compression socks! yippie! Also have now gone from a walker to a cane, so things are
definitely looking UP! But he admitted today for the first time that the hemotoma really had him 'scared.' But I think I am finally 'over the hump!'
We are in for a big waether change! It is suppose to be raining cats and dogs on Sat. from a big California storm coming this way. But we really DO need the rain.
John, can u post the blog site again. BTW, if anyone saw it, the prez had a great news conference today.

Romeena, Glad to hear your little furkid isn't in a lot of pain. Our first event with Home health care isn't a smashing success so far. The delivery of product was made one day. The next day the nurse came and got the I.V. in and gave my wife the first bag. She was supposed to come back the next day to do the second dose, and show me how to do it. But she was concerned that my wife have her blood sugar tested first. She said she would be back the next day after she talked to the Doctor. Well that has been two days ago and she is till been unable to talk to the Doctor. So my Wife is a bit frustrated right now. I have flushed her I.V. two days in a row. I really hope she will come today and get this going. Not sure if it is her or the Doctor that is the problem. I suspect the Doctor though.

GF, I am going to prune my peach tree tomorrow if it doesn't rain. Any advice for me buddy?

Boo, Sorry that Bruce is so stressed. I hope he gets the other job. I am almost in Spots condition. Near the tail end of my working days. I need to go another couple of years if I want my full pension, but it is only a 2% a year penalty for every year I retire early. My back, my Wife, and my Kids are telling me to retire now. So I am considering all options.

But until I do retire, I reckon I better go do some work before they figure I already did. lol

Sometimes I feel like I unload too much on all of you. I think I am about the last one here that frequents the porch and still has kids at home, maybe that is why. Thank you for listening and sharing wisdom and encouragement.

Asa, that just doesn't sound right. It could be the fault of the nurse or the doctor but if it were me, I would call the home health agency and ask to speak to the nurse supervisor or administrator and try to find out what is going on. If they don't get right on it, you might want to talk to your wife's doc about a different agency. Just my two cents..Romeena could weigh in on this better than I could. One thing I do know is it is very important for your wife to have confidence in the care she is getting and sounds like there is a problem. Hope all is straightened out soon. Also, hope you can retire soon. We are all getting old, aren't we? Most of the conversation here these days is about surgery, illness, arthritis, or retirement. haha Love you all,

Asa - Thanks! I try to get here when I can. My household goes from one thing to another in pretty rapid succession. Sometimes, i can get up to do one thing and it turns into about five or six.
Boo - That "just breathe" advice is old and has been said probably since the dawn of man, but i find that it really does work! You might relay it to Bruce too. Simetimes, when you know there is that one moment when you are about to be alone (bathroom, shower, bed, etc.), an inner peace can set in because you know in advance just a solemn moment can unlock your chest and let your mind re-gather. My advice goes to you from lots of experience.

To me, that is where the show showed signs of faltering. I heard Harvey Bullock mentioned that in person. In my opinion Mr. Bullock wrote some of the best ones, along with the Fritzell/Greenbaum team..

An episode called Don't Miss a Good Bet has the worst scene of the series when Andy walks into the diner, announces to the con man "I'm the sheriff here" while literally, physically, reaching down and holding his badge. Hey, thanks, Sheriff Taylor, I wouldn't have known by your uniform or anything. How could a director shoot a scene like that? For that matter, how did Andy Griffith go along with it? It's one of the most cringe worthy moments I've ever seen on TV. It shows me that everyone on TAGS, top to bottom, had just given up.

February 17, 2017 - Msg 106800: Well, and I have mentioned this before...in the color episodes, why did the lovable Andy Taylor get so mean? He turned gruff and almost angry. A glaring example was from Opie joining the rock band and he was late coming in. Andy, almost coldly, asks Aunt Bee "Where's the boy?!" It was so stiff!
Fans think, and some here do to, that Andy was kinda fed up and was angry for taking the show too long. But even if that's true, you're an actor. You can still play lovable Sheriff Andy and show your anger OFF camera.
Some of my favorite colors are "Big Fish", Opie deciding between football and piano, Goober thinking he had whiplash and my all time favorite is "The Bazaar." That's where Jack Burns really cut loose with the "Huh, Huh, Huh?" And some of Andy's faces in that episode are unbelievably priceless!

I have the entire series on DVD also John, so I tend to start with season 1 and work my way through them in sequence. I have actually found that the color episodes don't bother me so much anymore. But I agree, Andy's demeanor changed a lot during the run of the show, even in the black and whites.

Boo, My Wife called me today at work and the Doctor has decided to just put her on a once a month home infusion. That was all she wanted in the first place, so I'm not sure why the confusion. Her nurse called to tell her she would come over and remove the I.V. Debbie said no worries, she had already removed it. After 3 days she was pretty fed up with it. Anyway, I hope next month goes smoother.

Has any one here used a Good RX coupon on a prescription not covered by your medicare plan or other insur@nce? I have now on a few occasions and it is terrific! My Humana drug plan stopped paying for a nose spray in 2017 that i use, so i went to GOODRX.com, typed in the drug name, and it comes up with various pharmacies prices with a good rx coupon. In that particular case, I realized that I was paying MORE getting it on the plan (when it was covered) than I am now off the plan! Go figure. Anyway, now y'all know. :)

I was watching the first season of TAGS today and watched the very first ep when Aunt Bee moves in. I never really noticed before, but Opie was so little and did such a wonderful job. He was a very good little actor, even at such a young age. Impressive.

Today has been a better day. Erin spent the day with one of her sweet friends who doesn't go with boys or smoke anything. Hey, you have to be thankful for that.

I've been working around here today, catching up laundry and doing some spring cleaning in the kitchen. I really did a job on the refrigerator..bleached everything in there but the food. Cleaned all the kitchen counters with bleach and the sink. It is pretty sparkly in there (is that a word?).

I am trying to get things done because of the big week ahead of us. Bruce's brother Richard is coming down on Monday and mom-in-law will be staying here most of the week, so I will have to be sure everyone has a place to sleep, clean towels, and meals. I think I am going to make a big lasagna and salad on Monday and that will be good for a couple of days. I am thinking about roasting a couple of chickens (that haven't done a lot of flying), or maybe making some pulled pork in the slow cooker for sandwiches. I might make some broccoli cheese soup. Everyone likes that.

Well, I had better start thinking about hitting the ironing board since there is preachin' tomorrow.

February 19, 2017 - Msg 106818: Oops. I hit something wrong. I was gonna say we are getting some rain here this morning. No cats or dogs, but that would just make a mess anyway.

My Doctor increased my dose of blood pressure medication. It seems to be doing good in lowering it, but mercy sakes, it sure does keep me awake at night. Bad night for sleeping.

I never did get my peach tree pruned yesterday. Maybe tomorrow if it quits raining. I need a new battery for my riding mower also. I need to get it ready for another season, although they are calling for snow later this week.
GF, What do you use for a fuel additive? I have noticed these small engines seem to balk to the ethanol if you don't treat it. I have been using a product called "Starton". But I still have some issues. Any thoughts?

Well lets see what I can rustle up for breakfast. I think I'm in the mood for some French toast, or as them fancy pants chefs call it, pan perdue. Maybe I'll call it that and see if it tastes better than regular French toast. ;)

Which is bad for me because I own several Honda products with small engines. There are a couple of service stations in the area that sell ethanol free unleaded. I may have to go that direction and see if that helps. It sure can't hurt, 10-4?

February 19, 2017 - Msg 106821: Asa, in Ohio most pumps have a sticker showing it MAY contain up to 10% ethanol (E10) some even have E15 15%.
Funny thing tho, Ohio is one of 12 states that do not REQUIRE retailers to post how much ethanol is actually added, so your guess is as good as mine!... I do know that a lot of companies dump their "cheap fuel" on us because of lax regulations....

I do know for a fact, when I travel down South I get better performance and mileage on their gas....

Hope you all are having a blessed Sunday. Went to sunday school and preachin', then had a youth parent's meeting after. I think we have a good new youth pastor. He is educated, but down to earth. I haven't discussed his theology with him but in time maybe I will. He said they are there to teach and help the kids to #1 Love God, and #2 Love their neighbor. You cant really go wrong with that. The youth will be going to camp this summer in the Austin area. Austin is a really nice part of Texas and I wouldn't mind living in the area, but I was going to move, I would shoot for farther north...and you all know where I am going with this...like COLORADO. Maybe someday. I am seriously thinking about Buena Vista Colorado. Maybe it is just a dream, but who knows? Buena Vista is one of those small towns that is situated in a valley and is a lower elevation so it doesn't really get bitterly cold and not as much snow as most parts of Colorado. It has the four season thing going on, but without the bitter winters. Anyone every been there? We used to try to go on our Colorado trips in December to catch their Christmas Festival and the Baptist Church there. They have one of those Bethlehem walk through things, where they dress in costumes and tell the story of the birth of Jesus. Really neat.

Well, just heard from brother in law and he will be coming in a day early. I'm not cooking tonight, though. Everyone can eat a sandwich or something.

Pray for our nation. I watched a documentary on Netflix yesterday about the Ashley Madison hacking scandal and was so appalled. God help us when the biggest money making website is for unfaithful spouses. Makes my blood boil!

Asa - I sit on 12 acres here, although just two or so are actual "yard." The rest is pasture and open land for our horse. My riding mower went "Pfftt" and I'm lookin' to get another one. The grass here is turning green, but hasn't started growing quite yet. But that clock is ticking!

How about this "Not My President's Day" with all these protesters rallying across the country. I think I will have to go to my blog and give them a piece of my mind. This too makes my blood boil!

Most of those protestors (the ones who aren't being paid by the Democrats and George Soros) are just a bunch of spoiled brat college kids, who haven't lived long enough to even know what the questions are, let alone know the answers.

They were weaned from their mamas onto Obama's Kool-aid, and then their teachers and professors force-fed them a bunch of liberal baloney and now they're going to try to burn down the world because their bat-poop-crazy Queen Hillary got beat. If she was anything but a Clinton, she would have been locked up by now, either in jail or in an asylum. Such is the state of our government, I'm sad to say.

"Not my President's Day", huh? Seems to me that we conservatives were told by any and all that we should respect the President, and stop saying derogatory things about him. I once referred to him as "Hussein" and was rebuked by a friend, who told me I should respect the office. I never did understand her objection, since that is his name, and since everyone referred to George W. Bush as "Dubya." Nevertheless, I didn't argue with her, just told her I respected the office every bit as much as he did. I never joined a protest march, never burned a car or looted a business, no matter how much I objected to his election and totally illogical re-election. Oh well. Such is life.

I've been called a racist because I didn't just swoon at the mention of his name, yet nothing could be further from the truth. I was actually delighted when he was nominated, thinking it was about time - but it only took hearing a couple of speeches for me to realize he was an empty suit, a pawn in the hands of Soros and other liberal Socialists. I was standing near a beautiful young black girl, about 22 or so, on the day he was first elected, and I heard her say, "I'm so glad he won. I voted for him, he's cute and he's black and that's all I needed to know." If that's not racism, I don't know what is.

So what do we call those who voted for Hillary because she's a woman? Feminism, I suppose, though that doesn't really fit all that well. I think it's very close to racism, only it separates by gender rather than race. In either case, it assigns or withholds value and favor from someone based solely on a random choice of nature, rather than on what that individual has made of his or her self. It isn't fair, and I refuse to consider either one - race or gender - when forming an opinion of someone. Well, okay. Soapbox back beneath the porch. I just hope the protestors get tired of their little tantrums soon, and start acting like somebody. --Romeena

I actually got out in the backyard and pounded in the tree food spikes, and I trimmed a small bush too! I am stretching the time between my hydrocodone pills to start to wean myself from them. So far the pain at the end of the extra window is quite mild, so will continue that idea.
I REALLY want to drive again, so that is also a good incentive.

February 21, 2017 - Msg 106839: Good evening, porch. John Masters, I just got caught up on the blog, and I like your style. Plain and straightforward, no apologies, no mincing words. By the way, I left a comment on the 2/16 entry. Hang in there!

Well, I thought I was finished with my little book, and then I met the new widow I told you about earlier. She didn't make it to the Valentine's Day party at my friend's house, and she didn't make it to the JOY dinner on Thursday night, but she did go to church with me on Sunday. That gave me the opportunity to observe fresh grief as a bystander, rather than just remembering what it was like for me. I saw her needs, and her reactions to the efforts put forth by others, and got a somewhat different perspective. God pretty much let me know that the book still needed a little work, so that's how I spent most of yesterday and part of today. I think we're about there now. God will either prompt me with a new thought, or give me peace about closing it out.

Actually, the closing is complete. I ended it at about twelve years, and it has actually been nearly 21 years, but I chose to end it at the time when I really felt whole again, which was at about twelve years. In the years since then, I've added remembrances and events as they have come to mind. In other words, it's not a straight, chronological account, and I've been still writing the middle. God keeps calling something to mind that I feel needs to be said, so I do. The book is about a journey from deadly grief to happy life, and writing the book has been a journey in itself. It's been a labor of love, and if it's never read by another person, it has served its purpose for me. It's a form of witnessing, and as we know, when God calls us to give a witness, we are not responsible for the result. All He expects of us is that we deliver the mail.

Well, time to hit the hay. Tomorrow is ESL day, got to help some folks with their English. They're so sweet, so kind, and love it when I try to help them with an English word by supplying the Spanish. Sometimes I get it wrong, and they very gently correct me, which I appreciate. We're both learning. Of course, they have smart phones and can look up the translation, but that takes time, and things flow more smoothly when I can just slip the translation in. Some of them are new citizens, some are on the path to citizenship, and some are probably illegal. We don't ask, that's not our mission.

Ro, I will buy your book. Just reading your posts are enjoyable.

MDC, I am currently on Lopressor. I have been on it for a couple of months and my Doctor just increased the dosage slightly. It is really irritating in that I have never had a problem with high blood pressure until the last year or so. In my work I am required to have a CDL, and that means a D.O.T. card, and that means a physical every couple of years. And they are real sticklers on blood pressure. And now because I am on medication for it, I am required to have a yearly physical. But It's good to stay on top of it I reckon. Thanks for the prayers and concern friend. I am glad you are improving. This getting old business is taxing, ain't it?

It is pretty interesting in how the "tolerant" left are dealing with the new President. There was no one more unhappy than I when the last one was elected... twice. But you know what, I never marched in the street. I never boycotted any business. I never threatened anyone. Pretty interesting. And of course the media is right there, fanning the flames. Disgusting.

Well I wish I could sit and rock for a bit, but much work to do.

about Cleveland's acquisition of first baseman Edwin Encarnacion. Seems he passed up $80 mil for 4 years to stay with Toronto, to now "settle" with the Indians for 60 mil for three years. Of course, I think it is crazy the money these guys make.
I can still remember when Willie Mays signed for $100,000. My dad raved about how no ball player was worth that much! Funny to think about it now tho.
Well, any way, if I improve enough, I'll try to get in an Indians pre-seasoner.
RO--your book sounds really wonderful! I am glad you wrote it, and as you said,
it will indeed be a witness of how God helped you thru it all! Amen. :)

Asa - You keep on keepin' on. I am helping fight my father's blood pressure. He is also anemic. Doctors are not real concerned. One of those 'keep your eye on it" things.

Ya' know, folks, I was never into politics. All my life, I was an independent and never really paid attention to things. Then Obama come into office and some things got my attention. When Trump ran and actually WON, I have jumped off the diving board and right into the thick of it. I have been reading, studying and paying VERY close attention to things. And I'll tell you right now, after being an independent for so many years, I am leaning very hard to the conservative side. I am reading a lot of Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham and a great site called townhall.com.
I literally am just jaw dropped at how the liberals and Democrats are acting. Pure, uncut idiocy! I now slide my soapbox back under the porch.
