Our upcoming trip was sort of a "spur of the moment" thing. We have had very sustained high heat here
for several weeks now, and we had put off any trips because of our kitty needing so much attention, etc,
that it just 'hit us', hey we can go! Such a good feeling to
be able to do this! I think it will also be very therapitic in many ways. Get out of the heat,
enjoy the ocean breezes, heal, love, etc. Yes, the world is hurting, but even Jesus 'retreated to a secluded place' now and again.
Leaving Monday morning.
I hope you are all doing OK. I hope Possum has a good trip too.
Good Sabbath,

Hey GF, We thought we were going to have to bump you because you were stuck. For sure prayers that things will be ok in Cleveland this week. Our Nation has sure become divided, and not by accident IMNSHO. Very sad days we are living in.
Have a good safe trip MDC. Here is a smashed nickel. I know traditionally it's a penny, but with inflation and with the state of our Nation, I figure we best boost it some.
Well Possum, it's supposed to be hot all week here. I reckon to make you feel at home. But we won't have the humidity you are used to. That's a good thing.
Well off to work.

Sounds like a great trip, Possum. Be careful and have lots of fun.
Hope your vacation is a good one, too, MDC. Wish I could spend some time on the West Coast, with the cool ocean breeze (actually cold sometimes). I remember having to wear a coat every time I was in San Francisco.
I've been on an evening work stretch that ends after this evening. I am still trying to get rid of the crud and feeling like I might have a sinus infection...yuck.. I need a couple of days off to recuperate. Saturday night was crazy..we sent two kids to the emergency room..one with a bad split lip after a fight and one girl who was cutting herself and refusing to cooperate with the counselors. We send them to the local ER for phych evaluations because they can Skype to the nearest behavioral hospital. We also had kids punching walls and busting up their hands, etc. Punching walls seems to be a common occurrence around there. We give out a lot of Ibuprofen and ice packs...at least the state is still allowing us to give Ibuprofen. They have taken away almost all other medications for the kids in state custody. We can no longer give them meds for severe agitation, so they punch walls or each other. Ignorant licensing people! Making the rules and not realizing what really needs to be done. Someone is going to get hurt...not just kids but staff members and the documentation requirements with minors is ridiculous! It just gets piling up and they are laying a new requirement at our feet almost daily. It's really to bad because we are losing nurses because of it. The older nurses just cant handle it so we are short most of the time. This weekend it was just myself and one other nurse so it was tough. Oh well, that's nursing...it's a tough job.
Enough of my letting off steam. Not a lot to report around here. Erin is doing better and seeing a counselor now for her anxiety and depression. She seems to like him and so do I. I is very "normal"..no weird new agey stuff or anything, just good advice and techniques to help with the anxiety.
We are still struggling some with the tragedy next door. Just having to look over there every day and see the lights on in the garage and house but nobody there.

Someone has been over there cleaning out some things. I think it is one of Steve's friends and they put little Maddie's basketball hoop on the curb for someone to haul off. That was terrible when I first saw it. I am ok now, but it really shook me up. Erin is still feeding Maddie's cat and trying to get her used to coming to our yard. She has also stayed in touch with the surviving girl, Emily, and continues to offer our love and support. The little girl is really hurting but is surviving. Life goes on, painfully, for her.
Before we know it August will be here with it's many birthdays in our family. I am going to have to plan something for Erin and my mom-in-law keeps telling Bruce she wants us to have a party for her at our house at the end of August for her 84th birthday. I am going to tell Bruce and his siblings that they can host something here for her if they want but I wont be providing all the food, etc. They will need to step up and help out. I cant do everything and work too. All of the them are retired and have the extra time.
Better go rest before having to head out to work again. Hope you all have a good Monday.

Well I am finally off work for a few days. Whew! It was a busy night this evening and I admitted two new kids, treated a kid for head lice, doctored boo-boos, treated tummy aches, headaches, blisters, a boil, nosebleed, constipation, menstrual cramps, and various other ailments real or imagined.:)
Now I can relax a little and actually get over my cold. I am going to make a big pot of beef stew tomorrow and do some chores little by little. I have decided that for my birthday I am going to ask for the family to give my house a good cleaning..windows, baseboards and all.

I am glad Erin is feeling a bit better and I hope you are too. I imagine it will take quite a while for you all to sort through your feelings on that tragic event. I know it would me.
Noah and I are doing the "bachelor pad" thing this week, since the wife is in Michigan for a job training thing, and Kai went with MIL to Colorado to some selling seminar for a company that she(MIL) is going to start a selling for. I hope I don't regret sending her with MIL for that, but I had to get her out of the house to do SOMETHING. She was driving me crazy this summer mostly just vegetating in her room all day and night. Since MIL had asked if Kai could help her part time with this business thing, and since I had been wanting Kai to get a job anyway, mostly so she could have a schedule and to give her a reason to get up in the morning(or at least before 1pm in the afternoon), I couldn't think of a good argument for her to not go to this seminar, since she would be doing the same thing. And besides, I figured getting out and seeing some of the world would be good for her, and her teenage attitude.
Though I just got a dose of that attitude tonight when I called to say goodnight and ask about her day, so I don't think it is helping just yet(She's been gone since this past Friday - they drove to Colorado).
Prayers for all and for our Nation.

Good afternoon, porch! I've been quiet for the last few days, but boy, have I been busy! My grandson, Landry, who is 15 and 6'3", has been here all week and my house looks wonderful! As you may remember, one of my bedrooms has been dubbed "The Christmas room" because the closets would no longer hold all my Christmas "stuff", so it was just piled up in that room, completely covering the floor around the bed, up to the level of the bed and even higher in spots. There was just enough open space to allow you to open the door. It was ridiculous. Then I had a similar situation in my room. One whole side of the bedroom was piled up to the level of the bed with "stuff", and halfway across the foot of the bed as well, with just enough passage in front of the dresser to allow Toye Starr to get to her potty box, and me to get in to change the pads. Again - ridiculous. The stuff in my room was piled there when we cleaned out the floor space in a ten-foot long, three-foot deep closet that extends across part of the end of the office, where my desk and big window are located. The closet was designed as a sewing place, with my Singer on one end, behind bi-fold doors. The other half was my ceramics or other craft space, also behind bi-folds. There are three shelves above that run the length of the closet, overhead lighting, and a desk-like surface that serves as the work space. Very convenient, and many pretty ceramic pieces have emerged from there, and many, many Christmas pageant costumes have been sewn in that closet. I don't make anything that has to be well-fitted - I'm not that good a seamstress, but I can make costumes like you wouldn't believe! I even made "angel suits", complete with layers of petals that looked like folded wings. Fun!
Anyway, over time, that closet had become a catch-all, as I don't do many projects anymore. The shelves were bulging, the Singer was no longer even visible, and the desk was piled with "stuff." Ditto the floor space beneath the desk. That all had to come out when the new carpet went in in this room a few months ago, and it was piled in my bedroom, with me saying "It won't be there long, I'll sort it out and get it out of there." Well, it just didn't happen, because I had nowhere to put the "stuff."
Getting too long - will be continued. --Romeena
July 22, 2016 - Msg 105332:
So, here comes Landry. The original Mr. Clean. That kid is so neat and tidy, and loves to organize and clean things. He worked like a dog all week, and made me work too! I had to make a thousand decisions - like "recycle, donate, keep or trash." Sixteen large trash bags of "stuff" left this house. Also five big plastic storage bins. Those went to the Salvation Army Women's Shelter, filled with clothes. Good clothes. Some with tags still on! Four were clothes, one was clothes hangers and small zippered bags, some that could be travel bags, some small enough to be for cosmetics or medicines or whatever. I figured any woman who had left her home suddenly with nothing but what she was wearing could use something like that, in addition to the clothes.
Leftover craft stuff, like some ceramic pieces that had been fired but never glazed, fabric scraps, skeins of yarn and such went to the Senior Center to be used in their craft classes. The rest went either to recycle, or trash, depending on what it was made of. My Singer now sit proudly and all alone in its place on the work desk, and the shelves above hold printer paper and other supplies, and even have open space. My bedroom is beautiful, open, clean and airy. The Christmas room is a spare bedroom once again. Landry is so funny, and so creative. He warned me before I looked in that room - said "we've called it the Christmas room for a long time, and it still is, but it's a bedroom also." He got almost all of the Christmas stuff that we kept into the closet, but had my Annalee Santas and a few other stuffed things that just wouldn't fit, so he gave them their own little corner. That room was his daddy's room (David) when he was little, and it has a five-foot long toy chest built in against one wall. So, Landry sat or stood the remaining Christmas toys on that chest or in front of it, there's still plenty of room, and the whole effect is charming. I don't know what I would have done without that kid. He's a wonder, and was so cheerful and energetic the whole time. He offered to do it, I never asked him. He just worked hard the whole time, cracking little jokes, never allowed me to lift anything even the least bit heavy. He eats anything, never picky, and is just generally a joy to have around. As David says "I don't know how we got so lucky, but we did." Anyway, my house looks great, I don't feel weighed down by all the clutter, and a few other people are benefiting as well, and that makes me happy.
Happy birthday to all my fellow end-of-July birthday people. The last couple of weeks in July seem to be very popular for birthdays. Me, my husband, my mom, and my cousin are all in the last week. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Good Sabbath all.
Boo, how come you are getting these colds this time of year? Those summer colds sure are miserable, aren't they. I hope you get feeling better soon. I hope another family buys the house next door and a new chapter begins. So very sad. And I was just funning you about making me a scarf dear. How are Erin and Sean doing?
Ro, send Landry to my house would you? I love orderliness and everything, but I am terrible at it for some reason. Every now and then I will get a bug and go through everything, get rid of stuff I don't need, and organize what I keep. But pretty quick it becomes a mess again. I wonder what causes that?
I was watching a Matlock last night and caught a TAGS moment. His secretary brought in his mail and started handing him each letter while saying "occupant, occupant, occupant". Kind of funny to watch.
Well GF, Looks like you got yourself a little innarculated huh? And no a/c to boot. Maybe Sheriff Tom will at least keep a window open for you. Great link for Don Knotts.
I hope Possum and MDC are having fun on their trips. Friday night a lightning strike started a fire out on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. It's spread up to almost 14,000 acres now. Possum will be sure to see it if she is flying back out of Salt Lake International Airport.
Well off to preaching I reckon. Haven't been in a couple of weeks with my back. Then having the family over for a b.b.q. afterwards. A State holiday tomorrow, so got the day off.
Oh yea, Happy Birthday Romeena! I hope it is a great one.
Prayers for all.

Good morning, porch! Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm 77 today, and it shows, so I get a shock when I look in the mirror these days. The "me" that lives behind my eyes doesn't feel like the old woman who looks back from the mirror. It always surprises me when I tire easily, or can't run, or something hurts. Oh well. In 1979, the cancer year, I was praying for just a few more years, enough to see my children all grown and settled, and with Stage III, that wasn't likely. David, the youngest, was not quite ten. God heard me, and here I am, 37 years later, in relatively good health and able to do just about anything I wish. Not only have I seen my kids grow up and settle down, I've got grandchildren who are grown up as well. I manage my own home, just hiring what I can't do, like mow this huge yard. The clutter in the house was more a matter of motivation than ability on my part. I won't let that happen again. I think nothing of getting in my car and driving 250 miles to Fredericksburg. I just put a few clothes in a bag, my pistol in the console, Toye Starr in her carseat, and away I go! I can use a computer and a smart phone, and I still have my nursing skills. I can still hit a small vein and draw blood or set an IV if necessary. I'll get in my car and drive to church this morning, where I'll hear a good sermon and spend an hour in Sunday School with a group of women I've known for 40 years or more. So, if my arthritis aches a bit, and my hair is silver, and my figure is gone, I really don't care. I'm here, and I'm grateful. God is good, all the time. --Romeena

Good morning, porch! Thanks again for all the birthday wishes. I'm about to go out for a lovely birthday lunch. David is taking me and Eloise (his MIL) to Babe's for some fried chicken. Trust me when I tell you, Babe's chicken is even better than Aunt Bee's. They make "chicken with crust" and they do it right.
It started out in the little town of Roanoke, a little bit northwest of Irving. Tiny town, but charming. The restaurant was built in an old auto-repair shop, and is very rustic, with cracked, uneven concrete floors, brick walls, and exposed overhead beams and a/c ducts. For the chicken, each diner receives half a chicken - one leg, one wing, one thigh and one breast. Big pieces, and tender, with a delicious crust. The sides are served family style, and they keep them coming - mashed taters, gravy, creamed corn, salad and biscuits. Big, fluffy biscuits! Now folks, I can fry some pretty good chicken myself, having learned from several "country cooks" in my family. My chicken is legendary in the family, but I can't beat Babe's. It's goooood! So, happy birthday to me!!!
One of my crape myrtles, the little 8-foot volunteer in the rose island, has suddenly just burst into bloom! So pretty. I love crape myrtle, it's so lacy and fluffy and the colors are beautiful, from white, to pale pink all the way to a deep blood red, and every imaginable shade in between, including lavenders and purples. Truly a southern icon! It's definitely a sun-lover, and won't bloom worth diddly if it doesn't get enough sun.
Well, guess I'd better get cleaned up and be ready to go to Roanoke. Leave it to David to think of Babe's! Blessings, porch. Wish you could all join us. I used to take REV there when he was in town. He loved it! --Romeena

Afternoon folks.
Yep GF, Pioneer days here, so it's a State Holiday. And I took tomorrow off as well. Just seemed like the right thing to do. 10-4? :)
Well a strange turn of events here today. I told you of the story of the father and son who went on a crime spree here and ended up kidnapping and killing my co-worker. They were both formally charged with the murder a couple of weeks ago. Well this morning they found the father dead in his jail cell from hanging himself. Crazy stuff. I am sorry, but if he was guilty of the horrendous acts that was done to my co-worker, and they were horrendous, then all I will say is he did the State of Utah and Wyoming a favor in saving a lot of litigation. I don't mean to sound so harsh, but what they did to Mr. Ricks was shameful, and all I can say is I am glad the final Judge will make the call for his actions.

Yep Asa... The "Highest Court" will prevail!.... Sometimes earthly justice has a way of working things out for itself.
The rest... Is for God to decide as you say.... G-F
July 25, 2016 - Msg 105356:
I agree, Asa. Our own Supreme Court may be the highest court in our land, but it is not the real "Supreme" Court. That comes later. I can almost feel some pity for the man and what he is facing now before the Lord, but after reading some online reports of the murder, it's not much pity. What on earth causes a human to do something like that to another person? Well, why do I ask? We all know the answer. Satan is alive and well on planet Earth! Thank God, we've read the Book, and we all know that he loses in the end. Asa, I pray for peace of mind for you and for all who lost a friend in this evil event.
Guess I'll watch a little TV, then hit the sack. Joe is coming in the morning, to do further battle with the weeds around here. I bought some mulch that actually contains Preen, an organic-acceptable weed preventer. After pulling up all the visible weeds, we'll put that down and see how it works. I'm getting pretty tired of this weed battle every summer. It's tiring, and it's expensive. Joe charges me lightly, but he does charge, and a workman is worthy of his hire!
Blessings, porch! --Romeena
