Yup, losing Patty Duke makes me wonder about all

I went for my first Medicare Wellness Exam (aka Physical) today, and all went well, but there were some really STUPID questions that I had to answer like "Have you had s-x within the last year?" Why does Medicare need to know that for Pete's sake!? Worse than Barney's weight and height test for sure! (Doc also told me that it was due to obcare.) Yes RO, praying for America indeed!
Sterling, glad you get a little ME time and kid time. Still praying for your situation.
ALL--regarding internet speed. YES, they are installing new technology in many places around the country, and if you get
internet with a 4G stick (as I do) or thru satellite, etc, it has slowed to about 2G unless you buy
your carrier's new technology. (and some websites 'time out' before they open) They told me all this both at T-Mobile's tech number and store.
It makes many devices obsolete, making you have to buy their new upgrade. I liked my stick over a 'hotspot' because it is not wifi that can be hacked, but now I will have to get that, yet they call it better? Come Lord Jesus! :)

Asa, I remember sometime ago we were having a problem where some porchsters were seeing bold text and everything we tried did not fix it. In fact, it was not until the posting page changed before the problem disappeared. Now that we are on a new page, are you still having intermittent trouble gaining access to The Front Porch?

Hey Floyd, I'm not sure if your fix worked but I go right on this morning with no problem. I was unable to get on all day yesterday. Then after a period of time (sometimes up to near a minute, sometimes almost right away) I get a "cannot connect to this website" screen. It is the same screen I get when I lose my internet connection. It seems the "imayberry" address is the only one it happens with. And ot seems to be worse in the morning than in the evening. But this morning I was able to get right on, so maybe what you did worked. I appreciate you and PH looking into it.

April 03, 2016 - Msg 104247:
Because I was not experiencing the intermittent accessing the Front Porch problem, I had very little information about the problem to offer to Floyd when him and I discussed it via email. That is until last night when the problem finally occurred for me. Because it lasted almost 30 minutes for me, I was able to perform detailed testing and send that information to Floyd. As a result, he determined the problem might be related to the DNS.
The DNS is short for Domain Name System or Domain Name Server. To visit any web site, we begin by entering a host name or by clicking on a host name link. Because it is easier for humans to remember text names instead of a series of numbers, host names are composed of alphabetic characters formed into easy to remember words. An example of a host name is www.tagsrwc.com. When we enter that host name into the address section of our browser or click on a www.tagsrwc.com link, that information is sent to a DNS server (computer) where it is looked up in a database to get converted into an IP (Internet Protocol) address composed of a grouping of numbers. In this case, the host name www.tagsrwc.com converts to a numerical address of 74.81.94.212. But if that first DNS server does not find the conversion information in its database, then the information is sent to another DNS server. This process continues going from one DNS server to another DNS server until the host name is found in a database along with its corresponding numerical address. Because all computers connected to the internet have a unique numerical IP address, after the conversion occurs, your information is then sent to that numerical address of the computer server where The Front Porch web site is stored. Once that data connection has been made, the information from The Front Porch web site gets sent to your computer to be displayed. But when this intermittent problem occurs, it seems the correct numerical IP address could not be found for some reason to establish this data connection between your computer and the correct server. The Front Porch is stored on one of Floyd's computer servers. And because he has the ability to control how his computer server connects to the internet, he was able to make some changes.

For those who had trouble understanding my technical explanation above, here is a simpler one.
Suppose I asked to deliver a letter to the Post Office in your city. However, if you don't know exactly where it is located, you would not be able to sent that letter. But if I gave you a numerical address of 123 West 152nd Street, you should have no trouble finding the Post Office, even if you have to look up the address on a map.
The DNS system works in a similar fashion.

Good morning, porch. I didn't make it to preachin' this morning. Arthritis in my left hand and wrist is making life miserable today. It's in my back as well, and I decided to just stay in and take it easy. I sure do wish I could take NSAIDs, like Advil, because they do help, but if I take more than one dose every few days, it throws my kidney function numbers all out of whack. Oh well. That's life, through and through.
For the past couple of weeks, I've had a little glitch in getting on the porch, but not as bad as others are having. I get to imayberry just fine, but when I click the porch link, it sometimes (not always) will do what you've described - just spin a minute, then give me the white "can't find it" screen. However, if I close the browser and reopen and try again, it will work the second time. Just FYI, Floyd, it did happen again this morning.
You know, it's kinda scary, the way these things work, and the fact that generally speaking, they work so well. When I got my first computer, about thirty years ago, who would have believed the technology would be where it is now? My first one was an Epson Equity, it had twin floppy drives, and it had an "amazing" 256k of memory! I had to load a floppy disk with the DOS driver on it when I started it up. Then I'd remove that and load the disk with the program on it, and another with any files I would be using. I kept the books for my husband's business on those floppy disks, and used DOS commands to move information around on them. I built the spreadsheet that held the summary of the information (THAT was a job!) and it had to stay in one of the drives, with all the individual files going in and out of the other drive. I used DOS commands to move the information from those disks to the proper cell in the spreadsheet. Once the data was entered, there were three checkpoints, and if all totals agreed, then the data entry was error free. I learned to do trial checks frequently, to find errors quickly, before the whole thing was involved.
That spreadsheet replaced a hand-entered report that was turned in to the company once a month, and was a boogerbear to complete. It would take my husband about three days every month to do the thing, and shortly after we got my computer he was watching me with it one day, and asked me if I could put that report in there and let the computer do the computations. I said I guessed I could, and bing-bang-boom - I had a new job! Apparently I did it right, because a couple of months after he passed, one of his colleagues very timidly approached me, hat in hand, and asked me if there would be any way he could get a copy of that spreadsheet. I made a copy of the disk with the template on it, and gave it to him. About ten years later, I learned from a friend that they were still using it! I'm sure the company has come up with something a bit more sophisticated by now, but mine sure helped us for several years, and I guess others benefited for a few years more.
Well, I didn't mean to write a book! Blessings, porch. Enjoy this beautiful Sabbath day. --Romeena

Way back in the early 1970s before we had any personal computers, I was in college taking my very first computer programming course which was a requirement for my engineering degree. The computer was a large main frame model IBM 1620 that took up half the computer lab along with its printer and other supporting equipment. We had to type all programming code on separate punch cards and run them through the computer in proper sequence. Although I had never worked on or seen a computer before this, I did surprisingly well in this class. I enjoyed working all the homework and assisting other students in my class and in the computer lab. I even corrected the professor when he made mistakes. In fact, my performance and grades were so good that I was the only student who did not have to take the final exam. That never happened to me in any of my engineering courses. And because of this programming success, I considered changing my major from engineering to computer science. But computers were so new to me that I was not sure how safe it would be to work in this newly developing career field. So I did not change my major. That was one big mistake I made in my life. Shortly after the Apple Macintosh computer came out in 1984, Apple was offering programmers a starting salary of over $100,000 a year along with shares of Apple stock. That was at a time when I was playing it safe making about one third of that as an engineer and purchasing my own shares of stock.

Good morning, porch! It's absolutely beautiful here today. Clear, sunny, no wind, a bit chilly right now at 58°, but expect to reach mid 80s this afternoon. I just can't imagine that some of you are still having snow! From my window, I can see nothing but green grass, almost fully leafed-out trees, and flowers - verbena, dianthus, Gerbera daisies, iris, snapdragons, sundrops, geraniums, big showy amaryllis, pansies, petunias and knockout roses. My regular roses aren't blooming yet, they're still too small. We pruned them pretty severely, but they'll come on soon. Sure is pretty out there. I love the view from this window.
Hahaha! I just watered two cats at one time! There's a big fat-faced gray cat that has been prowling the yard, and old Shamu from next door comes in now and then as well, but this morning, they both came in. The gray cat was first, and Shamu was hot on his heels, trying to chase him off. They stayed near the fence line, and that let me just follow them, turning on first one zone and then another, until they finally got frustrated enough to leave the yard. I know what they're after. The squirrels have babies in the little houses, and one has some in a hollow place in one of the trees. The tree-trimmer guy saw two little almost-hairless babies in that hollow and told me. I think the cats know they're there, and are hoping to get them. Well, not if I can help it! The adult squirrels are on the watch as well, though they're not much of a match for these cats. It really ticks me off. Both cats are fat and well-fed - Shamu's belly swings from side to side when he walks - but still they want to get a helpless little baby squirrel. Not on my watch, kitty! As I've said before, I would never hurt one of them, but I'll sure send him home soaking wet if I can.
Well, guess I'll go rustle up something to eat. Have a great day, everyone! --Romeena

Well, we have our Presidential primary today here in WI. Ted Cruz is reported to be the favorite on the Republican side. I know I will be voting for him. Sort of glad Carson dropped out because it would be a tougher decision then.
You know, sometimes I can't believe the presumptuousness of our public school system. I received a letter from the school district "inviting" me to take Noah to a "child development" day coming up in April. That part was fine, I have no problem with an invitation. But then it goes on to say that they have "provided an appointment" for Noah and I to meet with our "interviewer" for that day. They also sent along a questionaire to fill out about Noah.
Boy, they really want to get their hooks into our kids early, don't they?
First off, I never asked for any information on "child development day" and never wanted any. I'll take care of my own child's development, thank you.
They nicely give you a box you can check if you are going or not, and at first I was going to send it back with the "No, we will not be attending" box checked, but then I thought, why the heck do I have to "opt out" of something I never asked to be included in in the first place?!
I guess it is my fault for putting Noah's name and age down when I filled out Kai's papers for school when it asked if she had any brothers or sisters. Remind me never to volunteer any information to the school ever again.
Ok, that's my rant for today. Got to take Noah to storytime at the library.

Well, I am having better luck getting to the Porch, but I hate to say that the problem is still there. I couldn't get here late last night or earlier today, but made it this time. I agree with Asa that it's not him. It's not me either-I'm not sure WHAT it is,but it's frustrating, isn't it,Asa?! Oh well..
Y'all take care & I'll rock when I can!

Good evening, porch. Well, I wasn't having problems, but now I am. Minor, but they're there. I use Firefox about 90% of the time, but do use IE for some things. Today I decided to see if it would go to the website, and it would not. It just presented a white page, and a message, which read (in part)
"There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address."
I thought that was interesting, so copied the whole text of the message into an email to Allan, and it was promptly returned as "refused" by his email program. The message indicated that it thought the email was spam, and said something about a "Green Shield." So, I edited it down to just a couple of sentences, and sent that as an email, and it was again refused.
Now tonight I tried to get on using Firefox, and met another white screen - wish I could remember what it said, something with a big "52" in it - so closed out and tried again, and got right on. Very strange. Still, I did get on, and that's good.
I have been doing laundry this livelong day! I tend to let my laundry accumulate, and about every three or four weeks, I spend a day getting it all done. I knew today was the day when I dropped a towel through the little door at the top of the laundry cabinet, and the big door flew open and all the laundry fell out on my feet. Yep, that was a pretty clear sign. So, I now have one more load to do - my jeans. I always leave them until last, because they're so easy. Just pull them out of the dryer, fold them and put them on the shelf in the closet. Every thing else has to be pulled damp from the dryer, smoothed out and put on hangers and hung on the edges of the island to dry overnight, so they don't shrink in the dryer. Anyway, it's all just about done, and I'm tired. I only slept about two hours last night, and I'm beat to the socks. Will go to bed early tonight, I'll betcha!
Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Good Morning all.
Yep Romeena, I have no trouble it seems getting on here at work. But at home, it seems to be a no go about 90% of the time. And I typically don't get much time to chat here while working. So I may be not here much. That will give you guys a rest from me though. See, it just goes to show good can come from all things. LOL
Wow Tom, No food for MDC for a week? He might get so skinny he will slip right through the bars if you do that.
Hey Possum, How's your weather? Been nice here. Supposed to get into the mid 60's today, and the low 70's Thursday and Friday. Perfect weather to be testing back flow assembly's. Now if I could just lure GF out of his "Wheeler" to give me a hand on my evap. coolers, I'd have it made.
Well speaking of work, I better go do some before I get in trouble. I hope you got some shut-eye last night Romeena.

Morning porch, time to wake up! Wednesday has arrived on my end of the porch.
Its chilly outside. about 30 degrees. The Dogwoods are blooming here so guess this is our Dogwood winter. Mid May usually brings blackberry winter with a cold weather spell then we are usually good to go with summer temps staying around til fall. Northeast Tennessee has all 4 distinct seasons of weather. Glad to of grown up being able to see all 4 seasons come to pass each year.
no news to report on the situation on who set the fire in my church. Apparently the Federal Fire Marshall is involved as Arson is a federal crime so who if they ever find the culprit they will be in big trouble.
not much else to report from my end. busy at work and have been planning a little household shower for Patrick and Daysie for Saturday. its more of a drop in couples shower so he can be there and be involved in the event. folks from church as well as their friends have been invited so it should be a fun time for them.
Lunch menu will be: vegetable beef soup, grilled cheese sandwhich. chocolate chip cookies for dessert. tea or strawberry lemonade to drink.
Prayers and blessings to all

HI ALL, As I mentioned earlier, the whole country is doing some kind of internet 'upgrading' and it is causing a lot of issues with home computers. Seems like company contracts are not affected. I have had off and on
issues getting to several sites, including my hotmail and TAGSRWC.
TOM... hey buddy, I'm pretty skinny already! How about a peanut butter sammish? I just saw Leon come around the corner. :)
GF, ASA etc, all the hype about our new pitcher Greinke was just that, hype. He allowed 6 runs in 4 innings on opening day and we lost to the Rockies. I hope it was just nerves. They are saying that he is making about $10,000 per pitch!
What? Yup. Whats happened to baseball?
One thing they did do well was a great tribute to
Joe Garagiola. It was really nice before the game on the jumbotron and his family there and all.
ROmeena, funny about the laundry. My wife 'has to do' laundry about every 4 days! Hates to let it build up! ha
Maudie, good to see ya.
Sterling, yes, big brother is starting to do more and more watching!
Prayers,
MDC

Asa,the weather is pretty nice during the day,but it is still a bit chilly at night. We had a frost advisory this morning.I'll be glad when things warm up a little more.
I haven't been able to get to the Porch since I last posted. I've tried maybe 20+ times.I'm with Asa-I'll be here when I can get here.
Y'all have a nice evening!
