I'm already enjoying the day. I went on to church, no hail, all is well. All the moms at church today received a beautiful long-stem rose - so pretty!
Then on the way home I made a home health visit and got that out of the way. Now I'll finish putting my fruit salad together, put Toye Starr's hair up in a "do", and head on over to Eloise's. Dave and Brittney and the boys will be there, so we'll have a good day. Found a very sweet message on my home voice mail, from my Tyler, the grandson that's graduating from Texas State next week. He wished me a happy Mother's Day, and told me he hoped we'd get some time to "hang out" when I'm down there next week, maybe go to a movie together or something. He's so sweet, such a good guy! I've got a "passle" of grandkids, and they're all wonderful. I'm so blessed! God is good. --Romeena

Boo and Romeena, regarding the accidental deletion of forms text before you have a chance to post, I can think of a couple of commands that can cause this such as:
CTRL-Z which undo`s anything you typed
CTRL-R which resets (erases) the COMMENTS box
CTRL-X which moves (cuts) the text into your memory
In an attempt to restore your text, make sure you have a flashing cursor in the COMMENTS BOX first by clicking inside of it, then try pressing CTRL-Z to undo the deletion.
If none of that works, then you are out of luck getting your text restored this time. But you can prepare yourself for the next time. I use a free Firefox browser add-on called Lazarus because it "brings back text from the dead". It has worked every time for me whenever I accidentally deleted something before posting it. I've mentioned this solution here once before. Read more about it at http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/lazarus-a-must-have-firefox-add-on-to-save-your-form-data/
To download it, go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/
For those of you who don`t use the Mozilla Firefox browser, get in the habit of frequenty pressing CTRL-X to save your work in memory.
Finally, I wish to honor my own mother's memory with the following song. I also dedicate this song to all the mothers who are still with us and who have passed on. Enjoy.

I had a nice mother's day and didn't grieve over mom. If I think about it too much, it hurts but all in all it was OK. I ate out at the Chinese place in town. Bruce's mom, brother and his wife, and crazy addict sister were with us. Mom in law made a scene or two, being very demanding to the waitress, and she was very loud because her hearing aid went out. After lunch I went home and took a nap. Perfect. Sean gave me some great kitchen knives, which I really needed. I live them. I also got roses, and a gift certificate for a day at the spa. This evening, I took the kids to Starbucks for a frappacino then I hung out with Erin for awhile in her room. She confessed to me that she has been having a tough time with me working evenings. I am going to have to change to some days after the summer. She really misses her mama.
Asa, I feel for you dear wife...so sorry. I hope the day wasn't too painful for her.

Good Morning Dears,
How is everyone this fine day? I am a bit tired, but otherwise doing well. I hope all of the mama's out there had a great Mother's Day! I sure did. My oldest, Nick, has been on leave the last week. We've seen him several times. He spent the night with his friends on Saturday night, but made sure he stopped by before heading to his new base just 5 hours away. He's on the way to my parents in Kentucky, so that will be nice after him being in Africa and Kansas for a year. He's training with his new unit. As his mother, I did not need to hear he's learning to repel from helicopters and shooting. Michaela sent me the sweetest text. She has started calling me mom. I've been married to Nick and Michaela's dad for 18 years so they truly are my children and I love that they consider me their mom, though I do hate that they have such a sour relationship with their biological mother. Bryson was very sweet yesterday and didn't bug me about dinner. That's my only request on Mother's Day and my birthday-I don't want to cook or clean! My husband, Bryson, and I went to a neat restaurant about 30 minutes away called Midway Meal House. They serve Southern food and it was divine. Bryan got a grilled chicken salad and let me tell you it was huge with about 2 chicken breasts on it! He was in heaven. I had wanted bbq, but settled for a delicious burger, potato salad, and macaroni and cheese! I made brownies when we got home. Spent the evening watching a new Hallmark movie and Andy Griffith. I put a link to the episode I watched, The Pickle Story, as I think it's about homemaking/mothering on Facebook. It is in my top 10 episodes for sure.
Big Maude, I'm sure you'll love having your babies home with you this summer!
Boo, so glad y'all got air conditioning and that you spent time with Erin. I hope you're able to move your schedule around this summer.
Tom, I hope you get some rain. We haven't had much recently either. We are expecting thunderstorms on Friday on until Monday. My guess it's the typical hot afternoon thunderstorms that happen in the South and not necessarily good downpours.
Asa, I hope your wife handled yesterday okay. I know what you mean about drones. It makes one a little nervous. Sometimes I feel like we are in Farenheit 451!
Possum, thanks for the news on Barbara Eden. Very cool!
MDC, hope you are well.
Spot, congratulations! What do you do at the competition?
PH, those are sweet sentiments on your mama. Love when a child shows devotion to their parents.
G-F, I'm using my iPad now. I've bought a Apple wireless keyboard so that I can type things easier. Like Boo, I was having to use my phone and it isn't easy typing long sentences so I asked for an iPad 2 years ago and found it's still kind of a pain, but near as much a pain as on a phone. So, last year I bought a keyboard and love it! When my laptop is acting up or my husband is using it, like today, I still have most of the capabilities of it on my iPad.
Well, I need to get to blogging and job hunting! Y'all have a awesome day!
Hugs,
~Lucy

Lucy, thank you for those kind words. Yes I treated my own mother everyday like it was Mother's Day. This was especially true in her later years when aging and health issues began to take their toll on her. That is when I assumed a similar role as her home caregiver even though I was working full-time. Her doctors suggested that I institutionalize her, but I refused. And yet, sometimes I am haunted with thoughts that I could have done better.
MDC, I think that figure of $75k a year is way too low. When we come home from work, we can leave our work behind. With mothers, it is a 24/7 job that includes overtime and golden time. What they are entitled to earn is priceless as far as I'm concerned.

Good morning, porch. Yep, we have had some serious rain around here. At least six people had to be rescued by chopper crews over the weekend. Why will people insist upon driving into water running over a road? Despite multiple warnings on TV, signage at the sites, etc., they still try it. Two men on a farm road spent quite a while perched on top of their pickup, with the water just about fifteen inches below the roof. The truck, of course, is completely flooded and will be a total loss, I suppose. The water on the road was just deep enough to float the truck, and push it off into a ditch along the roadside. They'd have been carried away, except there was a strong fence on the other side of the ditch, and the truck wedged against it. They just sat there, feeling stupid I would imagine, until a rescuer came down on a cable from a big chopper and picked them off the truck, one at a time.
As for the mosquitoes, boy, do you have that right! They're already out in squadrons, and they're big old things! You can actually feel them when they land, which is good, because quite often, you can swat them before they get their beak in. I just hate to get bitten, because I react badly to the bite - big old red lump, then a little itchy blister on top of the lump. I just wear jeans, long sleeves and repellent when I go outside.
The back yard already looks like a jungle. The hibiscus plants are nearly three feet tall, and should be blooming soon. I've got ten of them, in all colors. The American Beautyberry bush is twice as thick as it was last year, because I pruned it back last fall. Everywhere I cut off a cane, there are now two canes, so it should be spectacular. I just hope it makes berries. I don't know whether it blooms and makes berries on first year canes, or second year. I guess I'll find out. If it blooms on first year wood, then it's going to be loaded with berries. The robins will be happy!
There's a little half-grown squirrel out there, one of this spring's crop of babies, and he's just the cutest little thing. Robbi and Richard gave me a new sunflower seed feeder, and the squirrels are loving it. The birds can't get anywhere near it, for the squirrels. There are two on it right now, and the baby wants to get in on the feast, but he can't find room. Little marauders. I long ago gave up on trying to keep them off the bird feeders. I just let everyone get whatever they can.
Well, better run. Robbi and Richard have been here, and are getting ready to leave. Later, taters. --Romeena

Good evening, porch. Today was beautiful, but more rain is predicted for tomorrow, lots of it. The ground is so saturated, that most of what falls now runs off, and flash flooding becomes a real problem. I'm not complaining, we needed the rain so badly. Also, for tomorrow and the next couple of days, it looks like West Texas will be getting from two to three inches, and they really, really need it. I'm thinking that our years-long drought is finally breaking. Thank you, God!
PH, I just don't worry about the squirrels. They do keep the birds away from the feeders at times, though eventually the squirrels get their fill and move on, and the birds have it all to themselves. Also, while the squirrels are raiding the feeders, they're spilling so much on the stones below that the bigger birds, who can't comfortably use the feeders anyway, just gather beneath them and feast on the falling bounty. It all works out. One other thing - while I'll admit it's a bit of a reach to claim to see altruism in a squirrel, sometimes I wonder. The bluejays will swoop in and chase away the small birds - sparrows, finches, wrens - and won't let them feed, on the feeders or the ground either one. The squirrels, however, will come running in and chase away the bluejays, but the little birds will remain, paying no attention to the squirrels, and the squirrels don't bother them, either. They'll sit side-by-side, munching away, while the rude jays sit in the tree and squawk! It's like the squirrels are saying "Don't worry, little feller. I'll run that mean old jay off for you." Too cute! The jays do alright for themselves, though. Sometimes after the squirrels have visited and gone, I'll put a handful of peanuts out for the jays. In about three minutes, they have carried them all away. I try to serve up something for everyone! Also, all the scrambling, squabbling, and conniving that takes place out there is highly entertaining.
That link has some excellent ideas for foiling squirrels, and if I was determined to do it, I'd try some of them, but honestly, I just get a lot of fun out of watching the show. I have a camera set up on a tripod on my desk, at the ready. You wouldn't believe some of the pictures I've gotten.
Well, guess I'll go find something to eat. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Good Mornin' Porch Family,
I hope all are fairing well. If you recall, my sweeter than pie Father-in-Law went to the hospital a few weeks ago. He's done more CT scans and now they've ordered a PET scan. They're hoping it's not lung cancer but bronchitis. In the scans they've discovered he has a double kidney on one side! That may have been the back pain he was having. We'll find out, but boy does he sound right awful with coughing. He's getting tired easy, and that is new. So we'll see.
The news lately has been dreadful, MDC! Nepal's earthquakes, the natural disasters, and now waking up to the Amtrak crash. It's all so sad. I'm glad that I have The Lord to go to when seeing all of this. Matthew 6 talks about not worrying about tomorrow because there's enough to worry about today. He's right.
Boo, I hope you're safe and sound!
Romeena, I'm so sick of our squirrels. I'm afraid their eating of my suet will lead my husband to say to not buy it anymore and then some of the birds that visit the bird feeder will leave.
Possum, that is so cool! I've told my husband that I want to go. I hope to make it happen! I miss the Rev. His Facebook page popped up on my news feed the other day. I am glad to know that we will see him in heaven sometime.

Hey, G-F. You might want to cover those irises, too. They take low temperatures here, but that's after they're established.
Lucy, I long ago decided that the squirrels are just part of the "critter parade" and I don't really try to differentiate between them and the birds. I've found that with the suet cakes, as the squirrels dig around in the little cage with their paws, scooping suet out, they drop enough to satisfy the birds, who sometimes can't get to it with their beaks, especially when the cake is eaten down a bit. It all works out.
Speaking of the REV, I never go to the church that I don't think of him. I enter the church property from a back entrance, to avoid a traffic light, and that takes me past the church's bus barn, at the far back of our parking lot. That's where he always parked his motor home and trailer, alongside the bus barn. I'd always pick him up and drop him off there when we'd take him out to eat, or bring him back here to the house for burgers and an evening with the family. I do so miss those times. My family loved him, and I'll always feel that I've lost a brother, or a son. He was the age of my oldest son. He was a fine man, a true southern gentleman. It makes my heart hurt to think about that little grandbaby, that he didn't get to see. If he considered himself "Pappy" to his daughter's little dog, Jake, imagine how he would have loved that grandchild. I guess there are some things we're just not meant to understand.
Well, got to get some laundry done, and pack a few things. Tomorrow I'm going down south to see my grandson graduate from Texas State. I got him a lovely leather-bound Bible, and had his name branded into the cover. He has worked so hard, and has done well. His younger brother is coming along right behind him, also doing well. Good kids! Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Hard to be patient but it will happen...right about the time we get a good hurricane, I suspect. Ha! Hope not but it is shaping up to be a hurricane year. Pray now, please! ;)
I just got off working a stretch and it was a busy week. My work partner was on vacation for a week, so I had extra duties. He was back last night and I was busy, but it was a pleasant evening. I really love my job...did I mention that? ha

(continued..) I admitted a very sweet girl to the rehab last night and had the opportunity to talk with her for quite awhile. I really hope she makes it. She expressed a faith in Christ and really wants to change. She broke up with her user boyfriend but I know the pull is still going to be there. Please say a prayer for her. God knos her name. She will be going home to a mom who is also an addict and her dad is in prison.
Congratulations on the coming addiction to the family. I am happy for you..jealous for me! I need a grandbaby but it is still too soon. Sean is 20 but not even dating and Erin has a long way to go at 13 (hopefully). I talk to her about s#x and we have an open dialogue about such things so Hopefully she will wait until she is married or take the proper precautions to avoid pregnancy. To me she still is so young, but I talk to kids everyday that are s3xually active at a young age. Nearly all of them that I interview, and most don't practice safe s3x.

cont...that congrats wwas meant for Asa, of course. Your family is growing and you have so much to be thankful for, don't you? :) I know you have your share of difficulties, too, and I am saying a prayer for you today. Hey, have you been practicing your cooking skills? Are you mastering your crock pot skills? Im thinking one of those grand daughters will soon be getting old enough for you to bribe into cooking for you...just a thought. ;) I bought one of those "dump dinner" cook books from the commercial on TV (I found it in the bargain section of the dollar store..what does that say about it?). Its not the kind of thing I would use often, but it is really easy recipes that I want to let Erin start trying to fix. I think it is an easy way to get a young one learning to cook. I went and bought a big package of chicken breasts and cooked and shredded them, portioned them into freezer bags and then I cooked up a bunch of ground beef and did the same thing. Now she can grab a bag of chicken or beef from the freezer and add then simple ingredients to it and make a casserole. I made a taco casserole the other day that was really pretty good..of course I added a few of my own ingredients but it was very simple.

(continued...) Ya'll will never guess what I am going to do this evening..I am going to women's roller derby. My sister and her son invited me. they went a few weeks ago and said it was a blast. I am looking forward to it.
Speaking of my nephew..he is still separated from his unfaithful wife and I thnk she is still with the drug-selling 20 year old (she is 35). Not sure but I do know she is spending time in the evening partying and leaving the older two kids to raise themselves. Little Emily is with her father and my sister most of the time that she is not in school. Poor little thing is still having such a tough time trying to adjust to not having both parents in the home together. The older two (a girl 14 and a boy 16) and stand-offish with our side of the family (they are my nephews step children, even though he is the only dad they know). We try to be involved with them and help but they will only allow us to if they need something. Their mom leaves them alone every evening and they have complete freedom to go where they want any time they want. Yesterday evening, the girl called my sister for a ride home from a school event and she said that her mom was working, and her mom's sister was supposed to pick her up but was too drunk to drive. I am so glad she called my sister! She told my sis that she was going to be picked up that evening by a boyfriend who can drive and they were going to a movie at 9:45 on a school night. My sister opposed but I guess it didn't do any good. The girl is very strong willed and does what she wants. Her and her mother fight a lot and the mom has no control over her and just gave up, I guess. My nephew tries but he isn't their adopted father and has no legal rights. I just see so much trouble coming. You have two kids that age who are very angry and hurt and have no boundaries.

The tribute artists did 2 good shows today and Don Knotts's daughter Karen did a good show about growing up the daughter of Barney Fife. Had to fight with rain but a good time was had by all! I got Romeena a picture of her crazy chreechster friend Ernest T. Bass (Phil Fox) too.
More tomorrow, obstacle race with the Mayberry Squad cars if it doesn't get rained out.
TOM glad to see you are coming along good with your puzzle,

Hey there porch!
G-F, I'm glad you're having a blast!
Boo, my goodness. That's just a mess. I'm glad you're safe. I'm ready for grandbabies too. Nick is wild, although he's torn a tendon in his rotator cuff. He's supposed to start air assault training in 2 weeks. Not sure what's going to happen. However, he could make me a grandmother at any time.
Asa, thank you for clarifying. I love big families. As long as the parents can raise the children, I don't see what's the big deal.
Romeena, my suet is pretty exposed at the top of the box. B just doesn't want to feed it. He is good about knowing the birds make me happy so he's fine with my feeding them, but the squirrel? No.
Tom, I'm glad that you're coming along nicely with your puzzle.
MDC, I hope your procedure goes well.
If I missed someone, I apologize. Y'all have a peaceful sabbath.
Hugs,
Lucy

G-F-- thanks for the shout out from the mayberry folks! Hope the rain don't dampen your spirits!
Good Sabbath to all,

Hey, porch! I'm home!! It was a wonderful weekend. I saw my grandson graduate from Texas State in San Marcos on Thursday night. Beautiful ceremony, and because they had separate grad ceremonies for the various colleges in the university, it wasn't too long. There was shuttle bus service from the remote parking lots to the front door of the venue, so it all went smoothly and comfortably. Afterward, I hugged my very wet and cold grandson, because many of the new grads followed tradition and jumped into the San Marcos river, clothes and all. The river runs right through the campus, and I guess new grads have done that for years.
He and his brother, who also attends Texas State, came over to Fredericksburg on Friday around noon, and hung with the family until Saturday afternoon. We had a good, long conversation on Thursday evening, and I feel so good about both boys. I think they both have their head on straight, and will be fine. The younger one will be a junior in September. He's a music and drama major, and will be in a production of "Hairspray" at the Zilker Hillside Theater in Austin this summer. He auditioned for the part of Link Larkin, and was chosen over several professional actors, so he's pretty excited. I guess I'll be going south again to see that production, probably late in July.
My daughter has two dogs, Sir Max, who is a very dignified, well-behaved fellow who looks and acts like an English schoolmaster. The other one is Teenie, a rowdy mixed breed with frazzled wiry hair and a goofy grin. Teenie, who weighs about 25-30 lbs tried to check Toye Starr out, and she turned and ran at him, barking, and he turned tail and scrambled away! It was hilarious! She set him straight, that she would entertain no familiarities. Play? Sure, but show some respect! After that, no problem, they played and had fun, but he kept his nose to himself.
David called me on the OnStar phone in the car on the way home - he knew I wouldn't answer my cell. Brittney was cooking dinner, and they wanted me to just come to their house instead of going home. So I did, and Brittney had made her famous chicken and rice - it's so good! We had a nice visit, and I finally made it home about midnight. Tired, road-weary, but home. Now I'm a bit wound up, and not ready for bed. Guess I'll go watch a little TV, and then give it a try. No problem, I'm free all day tomorrow, can sleep as late as I wish.
Missed y'all - glad to be home. Boo, sounds like you've had a busy week, especially with the family stuff. That can wear a person out. MDC, I'm familiar with that particular problem, it's not uncommon. It's scary, but you'll be fine. Spot, I wish I lived close to you, I'd come around with an empty basket this summer and look pitiful, and maybe you'd give me some veggies! G-F, thanks for getting me Phil's picture. I doubt he remembered me, it's been about three years or so, but I sure remember him. He's one funny guy, with more energy than an electric chihuahua! He never stops!
Well, I'm off to sink into my chair and relax, and then to bed pretty soon. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Romeena, Yes Phil did remember you, how can he forget a "Sweet Romeena"... Yep he's a Chihuahua jacked up on Mountain Dew for sure!... He did a funny song called " I've got 5lbs. of possum in my headlights tonight"...Funny song unless you're a Possum! Hey Possum, did he do that song for you at the Westminister event? I hope ya told him ya didn't take too kindly to it...lol. BTY Romeena, he did a special pose just for you in the picture..haha
I had a good time in spite of the rain, a little dampness can't put a damper on a Mayberry event don't ya know!.....

Hey Y'all- Glad Ro & G-F had lots of fun at their respective events. No,I haven't had the 'honor' of hearing the possum song, G-F! LOL And Phil Fox wasn't at Westminster this year-it was the other Phil. Can't recall his last name right now,but I talked a good bit with him & he's a danged good Ernest T. tribute artist too. I think Phil Fox has the physical Ernest T. down, while this other Phil has the voice & the cackling laugh. Oh,that laugh!!
MDC, hope all goes/went well with your procedure.( I skimmed the archives and don't remember when exactly you were going to have it done.)
Another girl,Asa?! You'll soon have "a league of your own"-ha! Congrats!
Well, better get back to whatever possums do in the early afternoon-y'all take care!!
