Hey, there, Pappa Bear. So glad to see you! I hope this means you'll be coming around regularly?? We've really missed you.
MDC, I think the world has already gone crazy. Here's something I learned today, in an article from The American Family Association:
Greta Hawkins, the bullying principal of the Edna Cohen School (PS90) in New York, has struck again. The kindergarten class was rehearsing for their graduation ceremony, and were singing "Stand Up for the Red, White and Blue."
I quote the article: When the class of four-year-olds was rehearsing the song in their auditorium and waving mini American flags, Hawkins halted the rehearsal and scolded the teachers, saying, "You didn't ask permission to do it." The flags were also banned, as they were unapproved materials, she said.
In 2012, the principal banned the singing of "God Bless the USA", reportedly telling teachers that it may offend other cultures. This past September, she also eliminated the daily singing of "America the Beautiful."
"It may offend other cultures?" Excuse me? If they're here in America, and attending that function presumably because their child is beginning their education at taxpayer's expense, then in my opinion, they can darned well get over it if we want to sing a patriotic song. I am so everlastingly sick and tired of kowtowing to some weird special interest group, or foreign culture, or whoever they may be. We (you and I) have rights too, and one of my rights is to be able to speak about my faith, sing praises to my country, and eat onions on my chili dog if I choose. If my speech or my songs bother someone else, they're free to get on the next plane. I'll help them pack. If my onions bother them, they can go sit somewhere else. In other words, this is America, love it or leave it. I'm an American, and my rights, in this country, should not be abridged to accommodate someone whose reason for being here just might be questionable anyway. Seems to me that anyone who objects to the singing of a patriotic song in America might have some explaining to do regarding why they chose to come here in the first place.
Wow. Where did that come from? I sort of got on a roll there, but I've said it, and I ain't takin' it back. Tell some little kids they can't sing a song about their own country? Somebody needs to investigate that woman. Soon. --Romeena

Good morning, porch! Cloudy in my end of the porch this morning, temp just 81° right now, at about 9:30, but it will get warmer. It would be a good morning to get outside and get some pruning done, but being warm, humid and cloudy, the mosquitoes will be out in regiments. Not sure I want to do that, with all the West Nile virus out there. Still, it really needs to be done. Roses need pruning, dead iris bloom stalks are everywhere, same with day lilies. It makes things look shaggy.
Tom, I'm glad to hear your sister is doing so well. My grandson and I are having a great time. He's going to be here a few more days. He's such a nice guy, funny and smart, helpful and respectful, just nice to have him around. I've been getting up at six to be sure he's up, and I make him some breakfast while he's getting dressed. He's easy to please, eats anything, not picky at all. I've taught him a couple of easy meals to make, which he plans to do for his buddies back at Texas State when school starts again. He said one of the dishes would be a great game day meal. Takes about ten minutes to prepare, and it's cheap. Perfect for a bunch of college guys!
Best thing about him though - he loves TAGS! We've been watching DVDs every evening, and really having fun. It's not just something he's doing to humor me, either. He watches it on TV all the time. By the way, TV Land is running it again. Guess they got some hot emails about it, although I'm dogged if I can figure out how to contact them. When I go to their website, I can never find anything. Maybe I just missed it.
Boo, that's weird, about the donkeys getting out. Do you have a video camera you could set up to run during the night? Or close the gate with a wire twist. I don't think a donkey could untwist it, so if it's opened again, you'll know some human fingers are involved. That's when you load up the loudest gun you own, hide and watch, and when you see somebody at the gate, you fire into the ground and scare the bejabbers out of them. Then you go back in the house before anybody sees you.
Well, got some errands to take care of, guess I'd better get moving. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

I would like to think the executives at TVLand (should) know their fan base for TAGS. Larry Jones the president should know by the HUGE crowds at the statue dedication @ Mt. Airy. I believe they think they are slick by trying to slip other JUNK in on us, but we know the right formula, so don't mess with a good thing...Amen?
TOM...I bought no fleas today, just a hot dog and a part for my lawn mower, and a big pile of note pads, they just keep disappearing and I am getting tired of looking for one when I need it..
Romeena, I figured you would like the Brown's billboard I sent you. haha I agree, not the same Cowboys since Tom Landry left. I heard him speak once at a Christian Men's Rally, class act for sure!
Possum, Those temps sound a lot like those from MDC's area. Better get deeper down in your hole where it is cooler.
With all the rain we've been having, I think we too will have "divisions" of thos dang skeeters, so I better order a few dozen more Bats from the Sears & Roebuck catalog to be sure I'm covered.

Good evening porch,! Hope all is well. Well my vacation week is quickly coming to an end. It will be back to work for me and
Mr. Maude Monday morning. Had a restful week. We stayed close home for much of the week.
Mr. Maude went to Knoxvile on Thursday to visit his oldest brother. He started his dialysis a couple weeks ago and says he feels so much better. He is hoping to be able to go back to work in a few weeks. Hopefully he can.
Yesterday, Mr. Maude and I traveled to Mt. Airy for the day. It 's about a 2 1/2 hour drive for us . We visited the Andy Griffith museum, the Snappy Lunch and had my picture taken with Floyd and the statute of Andy and Opie. We were hoping to met Betty Lynn as that was the day she signs autographs at the museum but unfortunately she was sick and unable to be there. Did a little shopping and went by Andy's childhood home, visited Wally's, the courthouse and Opie's candy store.
It was a fun day. I would love to go back in September for
Mayberry days.
I received a nice note from Pappa Bear today. I had sent him a card a couple weeks ago. He said he was having open heart surgery July 1st in Indianapolis. Let's remember to keep him in our prayers. He seems to love hearing from anyone on the porch.
Dinner menu will be: grilled chicken, stir fry veggies and baked potatoes with butter and sour cream. Oreo pie for dessert.
Tea and strawberry lemonade to drnk. Come early and we can visit .
Prayers and blessings,
Big Maude

above, I'd say it made it none too soon. ha We had 14 hours of daylight today, but now that will begin to inch downward once again, and we have 108s for the forecasts next week, but at least still pretty dry.
Big Maude, glad you had a relaxful week, and even
drove to Mayberry! I would sure like to attend some day at the Sept. days.
PappaBear sure had us all scared for a while. Don't know if I told you, but the Frank S that I saw a death cert for was his grandfather's! he told me

RO- sounds like you had a good time with grandson.
Also, one of these days tell us how you really feel!! ha
TOM- only dogs should be allowed at flea markets! haha
Cecile and I went to Red Lobster tonight for our Anniversary dinner, but after 50 minutes, and everyone else around us, who came in later, all digging in; I went to the manager and, in a calm tone, said we had been waiting for almost an hour and this was to be our special night out, so the manager comped the whole meal! (Found out that the server forgot to hit the 'send' button on the electronic ordering device.) Still left her a nice tip.
Prayers for all, but not flaunting my Bible knowledge, :)

Maude, Sorry you missed Betty Lynn, she is a sweetie for sure! You will just HAVE to come to Mayberry Days then. Floyd is working on another Mayberry meet-up in Mt. Airy again this year, July 19th I think. If you remember we did it last year we all got together at the Mayberry Motor Inn on Rt 52. I'll have more info after Floyds pod-cast tomorrow night.

All this talk of Mayberry Days, doggone it, wish it wasn't so far to travel. I just can't afford it. Would so love to attend. Got to talk to my son about that. Like I think I've said before, he could fly us in and out, we wouldn't even have to stay over, just make it a day trip.
It's been great having Tyler here. He's such a good guy. Sweet-natured, agreeable, just a joy to have around. His parents did a good job!
Good for you, MDC, for the way you handled the Red Lobster thing. You took the high road for sure, and good on you for not shorting the server's tip. Anyone can make a mistake. The only time I reduce a tip is if the server is rude or surly. If they're pleasant, and trying, I always tip well. My dad taught me that, and Dale confirmed it.
Well, I'd better run, or I'll be late. Blessings, friends. Have a peaceful day, and remember Whose day it is! --Romeena

Note that the term "Freedom to worship" has slowly been replacing "Freedom of religion" inferring that's its fine confined to the four walls on Sunday, but don't you dare live your faith 24/7 as Hobby Lobby (and all of us should) want(s) to do. Yeah, they like to do that "subtle" stuff so they can sneak junk in with people unaware, don't they, MDC?! Constant vigilance!
Just wanted you all to know I talked with my neighbor about seeing the ambulance in their driveway. They actually were back in the house not too long after my last post on it, sorry.
But the husband said it was his wife who had some complications from an infection she got from some surgery she had had. Thankfully they are both at home now and she is doing well. Thanks for your prayers for them.
On another note, Kai won't be going back to the Christian school next year, but she also won't be going to the middle school. We are going to try homeschooling her next year. Or I should say, I am. Still don't know if she is going to be using the same curriculum they use at her school, or if we will try something else. I prefer a Christian-based curriculum, but that's the good thing about homeschooling; you could use the online public school curriculum(which is free) but you are still there to add a Christian element to it if need be.
Hope you all had a blessed Sunday, and have a good week!

Good morning porch dwellers.
Prayers for Brenda Tom. Indeed.
Well the talk went pretty well I think. I received a lot of compliments anyway. But folks are very nice. I was worried because I was the last speaker and you could wind up with anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes or even longer. But they told me to prepare of 15 minutes and that is exactly how much time I had. I did notice a few folks dozing, but thankfully nobody was snoring. :) Again, thanks for all the ideas and stories.
Hey GF, We are back in the 90's this week so the shift is back to a/c work. Actually I am all caught up on the p.m.'s so now it's just any repairs that come along. That two weeks of being layed up with my back really messed up my timing, but the cool week we had last week helped out tons.
Glad you had a nice restful Sabbath Boo. That's what they are supposed to be. R and R. Rest and reflect. :)
Good to see you Sterling. Glad your neighbor is ok. Well if we are back in the 90's here, that means MDC will be basking in triple digits again. But with July almost here we will be seeing some of that afternoon thunder bumper activity showing up. Right MDC? Makes for a boring summer weather wise liven things up.
Hey Romeena, Have you noticed who shows up as Pete Malloys girlfriend on Adam-12 in the later episodes? Yep, non other than Helen Crump. She must like men in uniforms. You reckon? And she wasn't all snotty acting in Adam-12, although we don't see much of her. But Pete strikes me as a feller who wouldn't put up with that behavior for long either. I think he'd drop her like a bad habit if she carried on with him like she did with Andy.
Well better get the day started.
Prayers pals.

Good morning, porch! Well, I'm feeling alone and a little blue this morning. Tyler left to go back to San Marcos. He finished up his contract work he was doing for David. It was an absolute pleasure to have him here this week. He's such a fine young man, so respectful, helpful, and funny as can be. Great sense of humor. I think he had a good time, and I know I did.
Sterling, it's good to see you. I applaud your plans for Kai next fall. That's a major undertaking, and I'm sure you'll do it very well. Boo has done it successfully, she could probably give you some hints. Seems to me the advantage is two-fold.
Tom, I'm sorry to hear about Brenda. Prayers for her for sure, and for the doctors who will be treating her.
Hey, G-F. Nope, the burgers weren't hard. Some were fairly well done, because some of the famly like them that way, but some were medium-rare, which is how I like them. David is a grill-meister, so he always does them just right.
Well, I think I'm going to crawl back in my nest and get a couple more hours of sleep. Tyler and I were up talking until nearly 2, then up at 6. We had a light breakfast and he was on his way by 7:30, and now I'm sleepy! Yep, that's the plan. Back to bed for a couple of hours, get a little more sleep, then maybe get up and do a little housework. I need to go up front and police the area, change the linens in his room, as Robbi and Richard are coming Thursday evening, to stay through the weekend. Then the rest of this house reeaally needs a good general cleaning. Guess I'd better get it done. Toye Starr isn't much help in that regard, so it's up to me.
It's raining again, appears to be prepared to do it all day, and the forecast is calling for rain every day this week! I am so happy. Thank you, Lord! Wish I could share it with you, MDC.

Boo, I probably will have some questions for you as we get going with the homeschooling.
As for field trips, that's what's great about Kai's old school. They let homeschooling families take part in their field trips and programs. And I was told Kai would even be able to take some of their classes as well. I am going to look for other homeschooling families outside our church as well and see what kind of things they do, and if they have a network of homeschoolers around here.
Well, I am probably going to try to go back to sleep. I know, it's 11:30 and I should be up, right? But I was up until 5 am with Noah. Oye! Don't know what's up with him. I am thinking growing pains. Luckily he is still sleeping.

Morning all. I hope the new day finds you all fine and dandy.
Boy Boo, you find that radiator GF is looking for, you hold on to it cause you got you a real collectors item. That GF is quite the comedian. :)
We don't have any Whataburgers around here. So I can't comment on them I reckon. We have finally gotten In-n-out burgers though. I like em.
Ya know MDC, I kept reminding myself that I was trying to serve the Lord with my talk, and it was going to be in front of my Church family, but it's still nerve racking for me to speak in front of a large gathering. I suppose if I did it more often, I'd do better. Not that I am offering to do it every week mind you. lol
Been watching my TAGS dvd's lately. I watched "The Perfect Female" last night. I don't know, but that is one episode I just never cared for all that much. I thought it was Barney running off at the mouth that was more the problem than anything Andy did. But Andy took the hit for it. She got all upset because Barney said "she passed the mustard". Well Barney said that, not Andy. Oh well, the episode right after that is one of my favorites, "Aunt Bees brief encounter". I just love that episode. I wish Mr. Wheeler could have stayed around and been a regular. They could have had a lot of good story lines with him as a town regular. But I guess his destiny was the Shady Rest Hotel. :)
Better get going.
Prayers for all.

"In-n-out burgers", Asa?? Does that name refer to how quickly you can go in and buy them, or how quickly they go through your system? ;)
We don't have either Whataburgers or In-n-out burgers around here. Just the usual gastro-action inducing burger places like McDonalds, Burger King, etc.
Well, we do have Culvers, and their burgers are pretty good. But we usually just go there for the frozen custard. It's also the hangout place most of our church goes to after a function or school program.
Thanks for the reminder, possum. Sad. But also happy knowing he is resting in Glory.

Well, I just found out some exciting, and nerve-wracking, news.
I won a contest on Twitter and I am going to receive a phone call from Michael Damian! For those who don't know, he is an actor/singer/and now director who is best known for playing Danny Romalotti on The Young And The Restless.
I went on Twitter today and saw that I had about 15 notifications, so I knew something was up. I usually only get around 2 or so(if that) from people favoriting or replying to some comment I've made.
Only problem is he is in Austria making a movie now, and since it is already past 10 pm there, I think it will probably be tomorrow before he calls. Ack! So now I have to think about this all night. Well, maybe I can take the time to think up something to say, other than "uh...". ;)

I went to the movies today and saw "God is not Dead" anybody else seen it? I thought it was very good.
Asa, I don't think Frank & Mike from American Pickers have found any of those water pumps yet either ;)

July 10-12: Second Annual Mayberry Meet-Up in Mount Airy, N.C. Allan “Floyd” Newsome is hosting an informal gathering of fans for the weekend. Kenneth “Otis” Junkin will also be on hand, but like Allan, he’ll be incognito. There will be Friday and Saturday evening gatherings in the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn for pizza, TAGS watching, and visiting. If you’re really lucky (or just quick about deciding), you’ll be able to book a room at the Mayberry Motor Inn (336-786-4109). If not, there are other fine places to stay nearby.

Romeena, did those rains down your way help out the dry conditions there? As for MDC, I think Az is a lost cause for rain in the summer. He may have to hire those gypsies that came to Mayberry if he wants rain.

Hey, porch. We've really enjoyed this rain, but it's got a long way to go before it starts filling our lakes and rivers again. Right now, the ground is so dry it's just soaking it up and holding it.
TOM, I'm so sorry to hear that Brenda apparently has more tumors than they thought. What symptoms has she had? Dizziness, maybe, and headaches? Please keep us posted on her treatment and progress.
I've changed my security system. I've had ADT, which was Broadview, which started out as Brinks for years, and been very happy with them. Now I've changed to Monitronics, very up to date, the alarm works through cellular phone towers. I've needed that, because my land line phone works through my computer, and when the power goes out the computer doesn't work, so neither does my phone. This company also included a medical alert bracelet for me, with a button I can push if I fall or get very sick or whatever, all at a very good price. I checked them through BBB and they have a high rating. I think I'm going to like them. I had a hearing test done, definitely need hearing aids. Medicare doesn't pay, and neither does supplemental insur@nce, so it's all on me. Looks like $2-3k, at least. Argh.
Well, Robbi and Richard will be here in a little while, guess I'd better spruce things up a bit. The bed in the room they use is clean, the bathroom in that part of the house is clean, and the kitchen is clean. The living room could use dusting, and my room is dusty, but I really don't care. I'll get to it. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Good Friday morning all.
Hey to Spot and GF. Sounds like fun Spot. Enjoy yourself and be careful.
GF, our bi-polar weather here continues. Wednesday we were in the mid 90's. Today we will be struggling to hit the mid 70's. But pushing 100 by next week. I tell ya, it's crazy stuff.
There is an Airshow this weekend at Hill Air Force Base. The mighty Thunderbirds are here. They always put on a grand show. But they are expecting crowds over 50,000 on each day, so I won't be going. I can usually see much of the show from my back yard anyway. Everytime they come to town though I am reminded of a show they did here in 1980. They had just started the show, and seemed to disappear. We were on the north end of the runway, and clear down near the south end we could see a plume of smoke. We really didn't know what was going on, but everyone was wondering where they had gone. Finally about 15 minutes later they came flying over in the "missing man" formation, circled and landed. It was then that we discovered that one of the jets had crashed and that was the plume of smoke we had seen. They figured he had sucked a bird into his engine and flamed out. What was sad was that he could have ejected, but he knew if he did, his jet would have crashed into a large group of spectators who were gathered in an area they were not supposed to be in. So he rode it out to clear them and crashed in a field and was killed. Very sad day, GF, these jets were T-38's they flew back then. Not sure if you know much about them. Very small training jets. About a year after the accident I saw the jet up close and personal. Very sad to see. Anyway, they are in F-16's now. At least I think they are, unless they have moved on to another generation of jet.
Well guess I'll get out there and do some outdoor jobs at work today. Enjoy some of the cool weather. Maybe my talking about the cool weather will inspire Boo to check in. :)

Asa, I have seen both the Thunderbirds & Blue Angels. There is a Air Show in Ypsilanti Michigan I have been to several times, plus they use to do a great show at the Goodyear blimp hanger in Akron Ohio on Fathers Day weekend. My Son & Grandson have been to several of them. We love the old war birds and such, if you remember, that's how I got my "Grandpa Airplane" tag...haha Funny thing tho, I live about 1 hr. from Cleveland but never attended the Cleveland National Air Show. Wonder what causes that....Bet TOM could tell you haha... Now see what ya did, you got me all hyped up on air shows again, I love em' but I am getting to hate all the big crowds too. :(

Asa, it was on May 9, 1981 when Thunderbird Captain David "Nick" Hauck was killed when his T-38 Talon aircraft crashed during an air show at Ogden Utah. In spite of a loss of control, he was able to guide the disabled aircraft away from a large group of spectators. Click on http://www.kidsread.net/2006-04-10/T38.jpg to view a photograph of him signing autographs just before he took off on his final flight. He flew aircraft #6.
The Thunderbirds made the change from F-4 Phantom jets to the T-38 Talon because of the energy crisis in the 1970's. The Air Force discovered that they could fly five T-38's with the same amount of jet fuel as one F-4.
