August 08, 2013 - Msg 94390: Good morning, porch! just sent an mail around, got it from my friend Kathy, and it's so good! It's one of those "Flash Mob" scenes, and I just love them. I'm tempted to hang out at the malls before Christmas, just in hopes of being preent when one of those scenes erupts. What a concept! I love to watch the people, and the way they react when the presentation starts to take shape, and more and more people appear to join in. Finally, the non-participants realize what's happening, and before you know it, they're singing along, or dancing, or whatever. Such fun!

Boo, I really hope you get to go to River Bend. The family that ran it during the years we went is no longer there, but I'm sure the place is just as great as it ever was. I have no idea what the river is like these days. It changes form to some degree with every flood, so the swimming holes and good rapids I remember may be completely different now. I know the two huge boulders down at Neal's Camp have been obliterate, or at least they weren't visible the last time I was there, about eighteen years ago. There was a big gravel bar where they used to be, so I'm sure they were under there somewhere. Maybe by now the river has uncovered them again. They were huge, more or less flat-topped boulders, each about the size of a good-sized car. There was a space about four feet wide between them, and I learned to swim by splashing my way from one rock to the other. Wonderful memories!

Well, guess I'd better go feed the puppies. Toye Starr is heaving great meaningful sighs, and Bentley keeps peeking around the corner with a hopeful expression on his goofy face. He is the cutest thing! I bought him a little bell, the kind like you find on a counter somewhere to let employees know you're there - you sort of slap the top and it dings. Anyway, I got one for Bentley and gave it to Brittney. In less than a week, she has taught him to hit that bell with his paw when he wants to go outside. To look like such a goof, he's one smart dog. Also, Brittney is no slouch at training. She has taught him so many things. Maybe I need to send Toye Starr to Brittney's Canine Finishing School, and see if she can teach her to behave like a lady. Hahaha!

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

August 08, 2013 - Msg 94391: Ro, my friend who invited me to River Bend is from Indiana, and a few years ago she made the reservations to take her family there. She said that as soon as they got there and saw the pink cabins, her husband (who is native to south texas), said, "Hey!! I used to come here when I was a kid!". I guess most of us have been there at one time or another. :)

We were at Neal's when Erin was about 4, and the two big rocks were there then (near the rope swing). Sean would stand on the tallest one and jump in. It seems like maybe they were buried more than they used to be..maybe not as tall.

"Bentley, the Bell-Ringing Dog"...sounds like a great kid's book in the making. ;) That is pretty smart.

I have to tell you about my cat. He is one of those cats that refuses to drink from a bowl. he will only drink running water, so he lets me know when he is thirsty and I turn the tap (just a little stream) in the bathroom sink (I know, he's spoiled). Well for two mornings in a row, he seems to have turned the tap on by himself. They handles are easily brought forward to turn on the water and I guess afte so many times, he decided to try to do it himself. No, I'm not crazy. I just need to catch him doing it now. Yesterday morning, the water in the kid's sink was running at a slow trickle and none of us turned it on, then this morning after having my coffee and checking my emails, I got up and went to make a phone call. After I hung up, I heard water running...I went to the bathroom, and there was the cat drinking from the tap. Good grief. Either I have gone completely crazy or he is getting water for himself now!

In the morning, if I'm not out of bed and he wants something, he will knock on the door...no, I'm not kidding...he is trying to open it because we have a pocket door in our bathroom and he has learned that if he takes his paw and "knocks" on it, he can bounce it until it opens enough for him to get his paw in the gap and slide it open enough to squeeze through. I can't win.

Wonder if MDC is behaving in Cali? Sure hope he's careful on that surf board.

You all were talking about your first car...mine was a 1974 Ford Pinto...hatchback. I bought it brand new at 15 years old. I had been saving every penny I could from the gas station that I worked at. I started working there at 12 years old pumping gas and changing tires. I had a new car and a new 1974 Honda 350.....I thought I was hot stuff...lol

Just grilled some hotdogs so ya'll come on over....got plenty.

Taking the Grandkidders to see the new Disney movie "Airplanes". Gotta keep up the "Grandpa Airplane" image.

Wonder if MDC is turning into a surfer bum out there in Caule'forina? Poor attempt at a Arnold impersonation. Just remember if you get on one of those game shows and win prizes the IRS man (Father Mulcaney) will track you down, just ask Aunt Bee.

At 15 I could only drive my car until dark (by law without an adult) but the law allowed me to ride the motorcycle anytime. August 11, 2013 - Msg 94410: Good evening, porch! Ha! REV, I had Chinese tonight as well. Great minds, I guess. I had hot and sour soup and shredded pork with garlic sauce. I had it delivered, and they provide such enormous portions, I'll get at least one more meal, and maybe two out of what's left. At that rate, it's a pretty cheap meal.

Mr. TOM, I'm sorry you were not able to play sports or ride bikes. That must have been very hard for you, as a youngster. Some things just don't seem fair, and it's hard to understand. I still don't understand why I had to give my beloved husband up when he was only 58. That's the first thing I'm going to ask the Lord about when I meet Him someday. Right now, I have to just be content with the knowledge that there was a reason, whether I know what it was or not. God has a plan. Sometimes we can see it, sometimes we can't, but He's in control.

Well, I'm off to bed. Got to be up for preachin' in the morning! Blessings, and everyone sleep well. --Romeena

August 11, 2013 - Msg 94411: Good Sabbath my friends.
I hope you all are fine and dandy.

I almost had chinese yesterday also Rev and Ro, but decided to just whip up something at home. If my favorite chinese place delivered, I'd have gone that route though. Then I decided after dinner I'd make sone cornbread muffins. So I proceeded to do that. But I used 1&2/3 cup of milk instead of just 2/3 cup a milk because I misread the numbers on the measuring cup. Well thet just got me all kinds of upset. It all ended up in the trash.

Hey Boo, I haven't had a gout attack for over a month. Been a nice break. Thank you for asking. That stuff has been beating me up since the first of May for some reason.

Well guess I better get ready for preachin. I still say neckties were invented by an onery woman suffering from PMS. ;)

Prayers for all.

Asa

August 11, 2013 - Msg 94412: Good morning, porch! Asa, you are a bird in this world. My dear Dale would have agreed with you about the neckties. He absolutely hated them. In fact, he'd probably have agreed with you about a lot of things. I think, in general nature, you two were a lot alike.

About that cornbread batter - next time something like that happens, don't throw it out. It can usually be salvaged. In this case, here's how. You had put in a little more than twice as much milk than you needed. So, you just add another round of everything else, plus a proportionate pinch more. Your amounts won't be exactly doubled, but it won't make that much difference. My grandma never used a recipe or a measuring cup in her life. She just put in a scoop of this, a dash of that, a pinch of something else, and her biscuits and cornbread were wonderful every time. We keep tellin' you, you gotta relax with this cooking thing. The main ingredient is love, and you can't possibly get too much of that, so just go for it! Look at it this way. If what you're making is just a total flop (not likely) and inedible (I doubt it!) you can always crumble it up and put it out for the critters. Beats trashing it!

Well, I'm off. (I know, lots of people would agree!) Anyway, I'm headed for the church house, to worship the Lord on this beautiful morning. Gonna be a hot one, but it sure is pretty right now. Blessings! --Romeena

August 11, 2013 - Msg 94413: Me again. Did you all know that critters will eat watermelon? I put some rinds out on Friday, with about a half-inch of pink left in them, and all the seeds. (It wasn't very good close to the rind.) Anyway, those rinds are nothing but a thin, leathery green shell now, and there's not a seed in sight. A hopeful little squirrel is nosing around the remains. The birds eat it, and the squirrels, and I suspect in the dark of night, those rinds were visited by a possum and maybe a raccoon. I've seen both around here. Enjoy, little ones! --Romeena

August 11, 2013 - Msg 94414: All God's creatures come to "Café Romeena" to eat don't ya know...They were hoping for some of that Chinese..Maybe tonight's treat?
Asa, ya should have added a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream to the mix and ya coulda had a cornbread shake! Or ya just coulda put it in a baggie and cut the tip off and made some "Space Food" out of it! You got to look at it from all sides.(like Romeena was telling you) Cooking is mostly trial & error anyhow.
I made a Ham, & cornbread too yesterday, except I cut up some fresh sweet corn and put it in the mix. This time I used Martha White instead of Jiffy, I think I like the Jiffy better, you have to add a "real" egg to it + I use 1/2 milk & 1/2 sour cream I think it makes it moister? I did not want to make a big moulage out of it.

August 11, 2013 - Msg 94420: Asa, honestly I can't remember many disasters but I remember the first time I tried to make a thanksgiving dinner (my mom was out of town). I was in my twenties and invited a friend from work and my sister and her husband. I worked nights then and I rushed home at 7am to put the turkey in the oven and it just wouldn't get done. The little red thing was popped up but the turkey was not cooked well enough...I didn't know how to tell the difference so I served it...then had to put it back in the over for quite awhile while everyone was starving. Nothing I made tasted like mom's. Not a good Thanksgiving. I think that was the same thanksgiving that ST. Susan went to open a can of biscuits and they exploded all over the kitchen...there were even biscuits hanging from the ceiling!

Been a busy day...preachin', then a trip to San Antonio for some training. You all remember the years that I (and my friend keith) were going to the drug rehab for teens, leading bible study. We were praying about a place for the girls who turned 18 and were turned out of the system with no place to go. Well, I am very happy to announce that our church just opened "Grace House" in Corpus Christi. We will be providing for up to 7 women who are ready to turn their lives around and willing to do what it takes to make it. It is a "sister house" to Grace House in San Antonio. And it has been a few years coming together. The website for Grace House is www.gracehousesa.com ...take a look and see what we have going on. Our Grace House is smaller and just getting started but it will grow. I am the mentor coordinator and attended a workshop today to learn more about what I will be doing I. I am going to be mentoring a 30 year old woman that I met today and she is a blessing already. Wanted to share that with you all, especially MDC, because of all the prayers you have prayed for the Shoreline Drug rehab and the girls we have tried to help. :) God is answering prayer.

Better go get some rest.

Boo, what a neat thing about the new home you guys are doing. Will certainly fill a much needed void, and how great you are involving yourself in such a wonderful cause. The Lord is smiling upon you, I have no doub't.

Well my chicken came out pretty good I'd say. I brined the chicken before I cooked it. First time I've ever done that. And the bisquick recipe called to add salt to the mix so I did that. Probably shouldn't have because it came out a tad salty, But very moist though and very edible. I'll try it again sometime and cut back on the salt.

Hey Spot, them old V.W. Bugs would go forever. The engines on them sure had a very distinctive sound. Almost seemed like a cross between a lawnmower engine and an air compressor running. But they were running machines.

My first car was a truck. An ol 1955 1/2 ton pick up. I loved that thing. 6 banger with a 4 speed tranny. I think a fellers first car is kinda like his first love, he never forgets it. LOL

Better commence to work I reckon. Mondays are often interesting here.

Welcome home to MDC. Your vacation sounds heavenly. I am just hanging on for some cooler weather. Its been about 100 degrees here for days.

So glad things went well, REV!

Better finish the coffee...my eyes still feel like lead. I was sleeping soundly at 3am when the smoke alarms went off...for no reason. They stopped, then started up again, and then stopped for good. August 12, 2013 - Msg 94428: Good morning, porch! Glad to see REV and MDC home safe and sound, and back in their rockers. REV, I'm really looking forward to October and your concert here. If you end up with a day or so left over, we'll find something interesting to do. The Dallas Arboretum Fall schedule will be in full swing, and it's a sight to behold. If you go during the week rather than on Saturday or Sunday, it's not too crowded, and they always have little golf-cart trams you can ride if you get tired of walking. I just get on and ride to an interesting spot, then get off and stay there a while, get back on and find another good place. The trams are free, and I have a family-size season pass that gets us into the park free. So, other than lunch, it's a free day!

Boo, I can't tell you how much I admire your spirit and attitude, and willingness to serve the Lord. The work you do in that drug rehab program will be life-changing for those girls. It's not something that just anyone can do. You have to be called, and then you have to be willing to answer that call. May God richly bless your efforts, and give you the energy to carry on.

My SS class will be filling school teachers' resource boxes today, at our SS teacher's home. It's not fair, but in schools where most of the students are from low-income homes, the teachers have a problem. They can either try to teach children who don't have the required supplies, or they can buy them out of their own resources and give them to the children. In this area, with our heavy influx of "undocumented workers", that applies to just about all our elementary schools. Often, the kids don't even have winter coats, let alone school supplies. I know these folks don't have much money, and it's hard for them, but my sympathy slips a little when I'm behind them in the grocery line and see several six-packs of beer and cartons of cigarettes in their cart. It's a matter of values, and education is not valued in some of those households. And it's not just the immigrants, it's born-here residents as well.

The middle and high schools are not affected so much, as many of the kids quit school after the sixth grade. That's sad too, but it makes it all the more imperative to get as much education into them in the lower grades as we can. So, every year, our church and especially our class, has an initiative to buy supplies and give them to the schools that are most affected. We just fill plastic bins with pencils, glue, crayons, scissors, rulers, paper, and oh yes! Boxes of tissues! Teachers say they can go through a box of tissue a day, wiping little runny noses. So, through the summer, our class watches for sales, stocks up, and then just before school starts, we have a "fill the bins" day. The teachers say it helps, they appreciate it, and it doesn't cost any of us very much. A little at a time, you hardly feel it.

Well, I need to go clean out a pantry. I've got stuff in there that could vote, and it needs to go. There is no reason for stale crackers and dried-out cereal to sit there when the critters would make short work of it. Blessings, all! --Romeena

Back to cleaning up.

Hey, Ro, you worked full time when your kids were still at home, didn't you? You must have been pretty organized to get things done. I won't be working full-time, but with homeschooling Erin, and other responsibilities, I know I will be in trouble if I don't manage my time wisely. Any thoughts or advice? :)

August 12, 2013 - Msg 94432: Hi, Boo, sounds like you're going to have a full plate. I cannot imagine home-schooling my children. I know it's a great thing to do, and when done well, the kids get a great education, but that would be the sticking point for me. I don't have enough confidence in my ability to teach them. I can well imagine that you're doing a fine job though, and I admire you for it. You're shielding Erin from all the h*llacious things that are going in the schools, the ungodly things the government is requiring to be taught, and you know she's safe with you.

Yes, I worked full time when the kids were at home. While I was in nursing school, I also was Dale's secretary and office manager. We were able to arrange it so a lot of the work could be done from home, by putting in a second phone line. When it rang at the office, it also rang here. Worked pretty well. My kids weren't little though. David was nine when I graduated from nursing school, and Dale, Jr. was in college. The girls were teenagers, and were a tremendous help to me. My Dale was very supportive as well, and when I had some heavy studying to do, he'd load the kids up and take them out to eat, or to a movie or something, to give me some quiet time. We were a good team, that man and I, and that spilled over into the family. For many years, we were a team of six, until they started growing up and moving out on their own. I miss those years!

Well, got to hit the shower and head on over to my teacher's house. Still have to put my accumulated stuff in the car as well. Hope I can find it all! Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

August 12, 2013 - Msg 94433: I'm hearing a buzz on the internet...KSL Channel 5 TV in Utah is airing a NEW show.. It's called: "Cooking with Asa" they are going to feature a new dish each week, I think the 1st show will feature "Chicken ala Asa". I think it's a chicken dish. I don't have one of those outer space dish things so maybe MDC or Boo & Romeena may have to check it out and relay it to the Eastern Porch folks. Mr. Tucker was right about what he said about the outer space things?

Howdy porch family

Ro....will probably have that Friday free after being at your church on Thursday. Will have a concert in Texarkana on Saturday so as of now I'll leave out early Saturday morning. Looking forward to seeing you...can't believe it's almost been another year.

Spot...yep those ole VWs were tough as nails. My granddad bought one when I was a kid and I remember riding in the little open area behind the back seat. I thought that was the neatest thing in the world to ride back there...lol

Please don't take this wrong because I'm certainly not sharing this next info to pat myself on the back because I give GOD all the glory but I got a call today from a DJ in California and said my new cd is in the top 5 requested cds for the past two weeks in the country market. It amazes me that God would even use someone like me when I know there's so many other people out there that has so much more talent. Folks I mean it...we serve a wonderful God.

Well I better get off of here and get some things done before bedtime.
Love and prayers for all my porch family!

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94435: Hey, that is awesome news, REV! Glory to God. :)

Ro, one of these days, Sean and I are going to make a trip up to Waco to see my Aunt and Uncle there (poor dears are in their 80's and we need to see them). I told him we will have to go when we can make a trip north to Irving and take Romeena for some Babe's chicken. Now that I am starting the re-entry course, I may have to wait until after December, though. :(

Long day..got quite a bit done, though. I hope the rest of you had a good one.

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94436: Woohooo! Great news, REV. Lots of great news! First the CD, and to that I say, it's about time! I think your music should be on the radio everywhere. Also great news that you'll have Friday free so we can visit. Eloise will enjoy the time as well. If the weather's nice, and you want to do it, we can visit the Arboretum, or anything else you think you'd like to do, and we'll certainly get in a trip to Babe's. I'm really looking forward to it. I just wish Mrs. REV could be with you. I'd love to meet her.

Boo, y'all just come on up! I've got plenty of room, so you could plan to stay over if you wish. Sounds like a good excuse to make still another trip to Babe's!

Well, I'm tired. We sorted all those school supplies and packed the bins today, and boy, there was a bunch of stuff. I stopped by Target on my way over to my teacher's house, and found a good sale on some neat plastic storage stuff. Got a big old tub with a bright pink lid, perfect for storing the boxes of tissues. Also a stack of three drawers, on wheels, again with a bright pink lid. Really cute, and it was not expensive. Holds a bunch of stuff, too! Those poor teachers. They're not paid enough as it is, and then they have to spring for supplies out of their own pocket so their kids have what they need. It's just not fair.

Anyhow, I'm going to go put my weary old self to bed. I've got a freshly combed-out Toye Starr sitting here, also ready for bed. She'll be a soft and fluffy little cuddlebug tonight. Oh, she hates that combing, but she sure does strut around once it's done. She knows she looks pretty. Blessings! --Romeena

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94437: Good Morning Porch! I haven't been able to spend much time rocking here but I have been coming by to read and trying to stay up to date with what is happening with my porch family...can't tell you how much I enjoy reading about what is happening in your lives and how God is blessing you. Keep me and my family in prayer please...a lot happening and changing in our lives right now and for some reason I am battling a lot of fear and apprehension right now.

Anyway you don't need to hear about my problems but I sure do enjoy coming here and reading your post as it always puts a smile on my face and gives me hope that life can be good.

I hope everyone has a Mayberry kinda day and act like somebody!

Just read that Gov. Brown signed a bill in Ca to allow transgender dressers to choose whatever restroom, shower, etc. they want to use in pubic schools......folks this totally burns me up. And to think there's people stupid enough to vote for this guy. Our country is in a very serious state.....God have mercy on us.

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94440: Oh, my goodness! How can anyone with more than three brain cells think that can be a good idea? You porch guys - picture this. You're out with your wife/girlfriend/mother/daughter and she decides to go to the ladies room. You see a man from a nearby table get up and follow her in. You'd be on it like ugly on an ape, wouldn't you? Now, just put makeup and a dress on that same guy. Are you going to feel any better about the situation?

On the last cruise that Eloise and I went on, there was a large group of cross-dressers on board, about 25 people in all. The first night we saw them, we thought it was a joke, but it wasn't. They were all ages, from 20-somethings up to an old guy who appeared to be in his 80s. He was in a wheelchair, which was pushed by - his wife! I guess she dressed him in his drag clothes, too. There was one cross-dressed couple - guy dressed like a woman, girl dressed like a man. One guy, about 35, was in a pair of pink knee-length pants and high-heeled gold glittery sandals, with a pink and white striped t-shirt. Trust me, with feet like his, he didn't need to be wearing sandals. These people ate at two tables within a few feet of our table, so we saw them every night. One afternoon, as we walked by the pool, Eloise pointed out a muscular, nice-looking guy in a deck chair. It was Mr. Pink Pedal Pushers! I had to look twice, but she was right. These were not "transgender" people trying to complete the change. They appeared in both identities, switching from one to the other.

Now, you can just take this to the bank. When one of those characters was in the ladies room, I did not go in! Would you? Would you allow your little daughter to be in there? Lord, what are we coming to? With this in effect, I'll bet it won't be three months before we start hearing stories of assaults in restrooms and dressing rooms. I'm open to the idea that there are paople who have a genuine gender-confusion issue. I've seen babies born with the physical attributes of both genders. It's sad, but true. For those people, I refuse to have an opinion on what they should or should not do. If they seek surgery to correct the problem, so be it. However, I think this new "law" simply opens the door for every peeper and pervert to have access to places where he should not be allowed to go. I believe the people who are genuinely "in transition" would understand the reluctance of the general public, and would not wish to make a spectacle of themselves in this way. When an individual or a group starts seeking publicity and drawing attention to themselves, then I begin to question their motives.

America is slowly committing suicide, and the weapon is called "political correctness." It permeates every aspect of our lives.

Well, enough of that. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! --Romeena

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94442: Hmmm...that must have been quite a cruise, Ro..."Mayberry Meets Mariposa" (you can look us that Spanish word). ;) I try not to be insensitive but it was very hard not to chuckle at your description. Seriously, though, I am convinced that there are some mental disorders that cause folks to do some things that seem very strange to us. We don't know all the answers so I try to be compassionate. Having said that, I think Gov. Brown's decision is a mistake on many levels. I, personally don't think I would have a problem with sharing the restroom with a man, but there certainly will be many women out there that would (!). I would have an issue with sending my daughter into the restroom, though.

It's good to see you on the porch, SMH, but I am very sorry to hear of the difficulty you are dealing with. Prayers for you...please come back and talk whenever you need to.

I had to go pick Bruce up from work today because he was experiencing vertigo again. I am working on getting him back to the physical therapist by tomorrow. :(

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94443: look "up," rather..

August 13, 2013 - Msg 94444: Hey, Boo. I'm quite familiar with the translation of "mariposa." It almost fits, except the beauty and grace generally associated with the word, in either language, just wasn't quite there. I'll never forget the sight of those crusty heels and knobby toes in those size-12 gold, glittery sandals. With high heels, yet. Oy vey!

I must say, you're less, uh, inhibited than I am, I guess. No way am I going into a restroom with a man in there, even if he's wearing a dress. Maybe especially if he's wearing a dress, I don't know. Anyway, I just don't get it. In all this business of trying to "include" everyone, and not make anyone feel marginalized, we have opened a Pandora's box. Now any guy that's hoping to get some sort of kick can just put on a dress (or pink pedal pushers and gold sandals) and waltz into the restroom in any restaurant, or theater in town. Some hormone-driven boy at a high school can decide to wear a skirt and blouse one day and go camp out in the girl's bathroom. A woman can find herself admitted to a semi-private hospital room with a male room mate, simply because the man told admissions he identifies as a female. Not there yet? Just wait. This is insanity, folks, and we're just standing around, letting it happen.

Now, I've used the men's room on a couple of occasions. At a large venue, like a ballpark, everyone knows that there's rarely a line for the men's room, and always about a fifteen-minute line for the women's restroom. I was at a ball game with a group once, and one of our party was desperate. She had a real problem and I knew it. I told Dale, so he went to the men's room, blocked the door until the men who were in there finished and left, then our whole little female party, and some strays who ventured to join us, went inside. Dale kept the few men at bay who had begun to line up by just explaining that there were women inside. Once we cleared out, he stepped aside, and the men resumed possession. Some of them actually applauded him, and one man said his wife was one who had joined us! The other time, he blocked the men's room door so I could take one of our daughters (again, desperate) in before she had an accident. The things that man did for me!

Well, it's raining here. A calm, steady, soaking rain. No wind, just a little rumbly thunder, and some much-needed rain. The temp is 81°, my a/c isn't running much, and all in all, it's a fun day!

Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

I saw some VERY strange stuff in Cal. Makes me want to re-read God's Word

Otherwise, the trip was good and pretty relaxing.
I saw dad briefly yesterday and he understood where I was etc. He's doing good.
My first REAL car was a brand new '73 AMC Hornet. 40 years ago this month I bought that car. Drove it for about 8 years, then got a PU truck and have driven them ever since. I plan to
post pics on FB, but my scanner software wont work since I had the hard drive issue, and it wont download from the CD properly either. I hope I can get it to function.
Prayers for all,

Welcome home MDC. Glad yer back and that you had a good time.

Had a good chuckle about your KSL comment G-F. Me on a cooking show would be a mess. I guess they could list it as a comedy. I still say I need to enter that "Worst cooks in America" show that Food Network runs once a year. I bet I could make Bobby Flay act like he's got bat eggs in his hair.

Concerning the topic of the day, I suspect y'all know where I stand on it. But I will add on something Ro stated. This is all just a toe in the door. Look out. Pretty quick that entire camel is going to be in the tent, and we will be out in the elements. Shame on us for letting it happen.

Good to see you SMH. I will include you in my prayers for sure.

August 14, 2013 - Msg 94451: Howdy, porch. Let's see. I learned to drive in my dad's '52 Buick. I got a license when I was 14 because we lived in the country, my grandparents lived with us and my grandma was a serious diabetic. Somebody had to be able to get her to the doctor quickly if she "had a spell", so I was granted a hardship license. I graduated from high school at age 16, did a year of college, then went to work when I was 17. My dad paid $300 down on my first car, and I was responsible for the rest of it. It was a brand-new, beautiful 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible, blue and white and gorgeous. It cost $3027.00 exactly and my payments were $100 a month. I loved that car! I met Dale shortly after I got it, we married eight months after we met, and we drove it for the first five years of our marriage. He used to joke and say he married me to get the car, but didn't realize he was getting the payments too!

Well, I'm off to bed. Tomorrow just has to be a "get the income tax done, finally" day. They owe me, so there's no penalty, but it has to be done. Blessings, everyone. Have a good night. --Romeena

MDC, I just love them old commercials. Very fun to watch.

A 57 Ford convertible Ro? Wow, what a classic car. I believe Perry Mason had a black one of those.

Well folks, my Daughter found out yesterday that Allison is breech. She goes up today and they are going to try and turn her. If they are able, Stacey is going to ask them to induce her. She is within a week of her due date, so I imagine they'll do it. If you all could keep Stacey and baby Allison in your prayers I'd be most grateful.
Thanks much.

August 14, 2013 - Msg 94456: Ro, wanted to tell you that I reserved a cabin at River Bend so looks like we will be going. There were 2 more cabins available...maybe you and Eloise could join us (and Toye Starr)? I know its short notice but sure would be fun...we will be there Sept. 5,6, and 7th...just throwing it out there. :)

Neat about your first car, Ro...what a responsible girl you were! Real Mayberry material.

So Allison in breech. I've seen a few babies turned and some delivered breech (in the old days). I don't think most docs deliver breech babies anymore, but do c-sections. In my 14 years as a nurse in labor and delivery, I never saw a bad outcome with a breech baby. Praying that all goes well, and as the Lord has planned. :) Please let us know how things are going if you can check in.

Was up too late! We had a little episode with the neighbor last night. One of her little girls was going to stay the night and while she was over here, mom got drunk, had a fight with her husband, called the little girl to come home and proceeded to call Erin a "wh*re" because she didn't invite her younger daughter over, too. What? I know it was the alcohol talking and its discouraging because things had been going so well. She had been off the alcohol for several months and even taking the girls to church but now, she is sliding back into her old life. I feel bad for the family. Erin never goes over there anymore but the girls play over here a few times each week. I guess I better start praying again.

Have a headache...I think I will go put the heating pad on my head for a bit before bruce wakes up and I have to take him to therapy for his vertigo.
