Good morning, porch! G-F, I agree completely. Whether he pronounced the "a" or not, doesn't matter. The intent, the meaning, was the same. I never cease to marvel at the huge fuss some people will raise over a non-issue, while major, earth-shaking issues pass unnoticed.
When I was looking at the moon last night, I was unaware of the passing of Neil Armstrong. I learned of it later, when I finally got home around eleven. So, my admiration of that beautiful moon was purely spontaneous, a response to God's handiwork. It even passed through my mind to wonder what it felt like to actually stand on that beautiful thing and look back toward the earth. So, rest in peace, brave astronaut. You know the answer to that question. What a thrill that must have been.

You guys talking about all this soda.....cheerwine, Dr Pepper, etc....I'm not a big soda drinker but my favorite is Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Other ginger ale brands are ok but you just can't beat Canada Dry with the real ginger in it. Think I'll go pop the top on one now:)

You know REV, I like the taste of ginger ale but for some reason it makes me nauseous...strange since ginger is supposed to help nausea. Go figure? I very seldom have a soda but if I do it is always going to be Dr. Pepper...kind of how it is in the state of Texas.

Hey, porch! I'm back from preaching, and our "mosaic" service was a delight. It's such fun singing familiar hymns in other languages, even if we do have to read the phonetic translation on the screens. The first time through is pretty ragged, with lots of laughter mixed in, but the second time, it smooths out, and if we do it a third time, it sounds pretty good! The Spanish versions come easy to me, since I've heard the language all my life, and speak it to some degree. The Thai and Kenyan are quite a bit harder, though. I'm saying Kenyan because I don't know what else to call it, it's the language of Kenya, but I'm sure it has another name. No, it's not Swahili, though they generally do speak that as well, and we sang one song in Swahili, just for good measure. Anyway, the service was beautiful, but I didn't stay for lunch. I was getting pretty tired, so came on home.
REV, I don't drink much soda either, being diabetic, but I do indulge occasionally. One a week would be about my limit, and usually not even that much. I agree, Canada Dry Ginger Ale is by far the best. It's usually my beverage of choice on a plane, because they always have it. I guess they stock it for those who experience airsickness - ginger has a settling effect - but that's not why I drink it. I just like it! By the way, did you ever notice that Raymond, on "Everybody Loves Raymond", always drinks Ginger Ale? Usually on every show, at some point he'll go to the fridge and get a Ginger Ale out and pop the top on it. I don't know if that has some significance, or if it's one of those "product placement" things, but it's pretty consistent on the show.
Well, guess I'll go scrounge some lunch. There's plenty around here, I've just got to mix and match and come up with something easy, quick and good. Shouldn't be too hard. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

I plugged in my Apollo 13 dvd and watched it in honor of Neil Armstrong. I look back on what we accomplished with the early space programs and just marvel. And the efforts so many went through to get the crew of 13 back alive was incredible.
I'm not a fan of any type of cherry enhanced soda pop. Just a good old ice cold Pepsi works for me, although I seldom drink them anymore. Good old water, or a glass of Limeade every now and again hits the spot.

Asa, my very favorite drink (besides coffee) is a big glass of UNsweet tea with lots of ice and a slice or two of lemon, squeezed and then dropped into the tea. I think sugar just plain ruins a good glass of tea. I do not, however like hot tea without at least putting some honey in it. I pretty much gave up any sodas because of my blood sugar, but its not something I miss because I never drank it much, anyway. In this heat lately, filtered water is about the best thing going. I tried making some fruit water (something I saw on facebook), by adding some fruit to filtered water, and then filling it with ice, scr*wing the lid on the jar and then letting it rest in the frige for several hours...really refreshing!
Been out feeding Thelma Lou and the chickens. Had to put Bernie in his place when I was gathering the eggs. I had to give him a shove with the pipe i was carrying so he got the message that it is NOT ok to threaten Big Mama! :)

Good evening, porch. Spot, it's good to hear from you. You sound good, and I'm so proud of you. You're a strong doggie, and I know why. You get your strength from the Lord.
Boo, I got a taste of that heat you're talking about. It was amazing. Sitting in the shade of an easy-up, right on the beach, about twenty yards from the highest reach of the surf, it was very cool and pleasant. We sat there all afternoon, and it was so nice. However, get another twenty yards back from there, where the sand gets deep and soft, and HOT, and I declare, you could roast a potato in that sand! Walking through it to get back to the condo was just miserable, with the heat rising in waves from the sand. Get further inland, nearing the condo now, and the heat was no longer rising from the ground, but it was a looong way from cool, believe me. The humidity would just wilt you, and the heat was unrelenting. Shade helped just a little, but the heat was almost palpable. Going into town didn't change a thing. It's hot down there, dang hot!
Asa, I agree. Mr. Goss was very annoying, and I never could understand how Andy could think, THINK mind you, that Aunt Bee would be interested in him. Based on just a date or two, I think Andy was very premature in deciding that she had that "special kind of love" for that chain-smoking old codger. He should have been waiting and watching, and asking questions. Well, that's my opinion, anyway.
Has anyone ever tried Listerine for repelling mosquitoes? I just got an email that suggests putting some in a spray bottle and spraying it around your area when sitting outdoors, or around door frames to keep the miserable little wretches from hanging around waiting to get in when the door is opened. If it works, I don't see why it couldn't be sprayed on your skin to keep them off you completely. After all, if you can put it in your mouth, where you can hardly avoid swallowing at least a tiny bit, then how can it hurt to spray it on your skin? I think I'm going to try it - it's certainly cheap enough, especially compared to the aerosol repellants. If anyone has tried it, I'd be very interested in your opinion.
Well, guess I'll go find something to eat. Maybe some fruit and cottage cheese, I don't want anything very heavy. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Turned out to be a good first day of home school, for the most part. Erin gets pretty fidgety at times and lacks focus from time to time but she is doing ok. Bruce is the one who found curriculum for Sean and is overseeing his education this year since Sean is old enough to work independantly, for the most part. He still needs alot of help with his spelling and I am afraid it will always be that way. My dad was dyslexic and had to keep a dictionary handy his whole life. The way his brain was wired, he just couldn't remember how to spell.
Trying to help the kids today was frustrating at times. I'd be helping one and then the other needed help with something and I wondered how on earth school teachers deal with 20-30 children in a classroom at one time!
Little Emily (St. Susan's granddaughter) went to her first day of school today (kinder) and she held up well. She cried one time and told St. Susan that she went up to the teacher and said, "I want my mama," and then started to cry. The wise teacher made her a teacher's helper and all was fine after that. :)
Well, long day...think I will relax with a book. Love you all.

Regarding your comment about having your dad sleeping in his wheelchair next to you as you type, don't that make you feel good inside knowing he is in good hands? And as you mentioned, it is expected for a man of his age to sleep more than we do. But please ask some health professionals about what the family can do to help prevent the formation of blood clots. Good morning, porch. Tom, would that be our friend Don who helped with the house? I'm glad your nephew is improving, and also happy that your stepdad is able to get some rest now and then. I'm so sorry he has back pain - I know how that is! - but at his age, and poor state of general health, it would likely be too dangerous to try to do any surgery. He might not survive it. We'll just keep praying that he'll find some relief.
Thanks, REV, Possum, and Boo. You're the cats!
It's so pretty here today. Warm, at 87° at noon, and climbing, but still pretty. Nice breeze, everything green and fresh, thanks to a little rain over the weekend, and some of my Angel Face roses are blooming. Crape myrtles are pretty, too. The grass is getting very tall, and Eddie doesn't come until Thursday. You know, you can water all you want, but nothing makes the grass grow like rain. I don't know if it picks up nitrogen from the air as it falls or what, but it sure does green things up and cause growth.
I think I need to relocate the beach umbrella that helps to shade the pond. My son drove three lengths of PVC pipe into the ground to serve as sockets for the umbrella (sure does beat a weighted stand). They're located at strategic points around the pond. Usually the umbrella is in the one on the west side, to block the hot afternoon sun. However, the sun has changed its path, and that area is now shaded by a tree, but the morning sun is hitting the pond full force. There's a pipe on the east side, so I need to move the umbrella over there. That pipe-in-the-ground idea was mine, and I'll happily take credit for it, because it works great! It's so much easier to just move the umbrella to a different socket, as opposed to wrestling a 50 lb weight around the yard.
Well, guess I'll go rustle up some lunch. Maybe I'll bake a tater in the micro, and dress it up a little. I've got some chives and dill growing out back, and I've got garlic and onions, and butter and sour cream and cheese in the fridge - yep, that's sounding pretty good. Or - maybe I'll have a PBJ, and save the tater for supper tonight. Yeah, I think that's a better plan. If anyone wants some, I've got several potatoes. Spot, how about you? Can I send you one? Thanks, G-F. I am very thankful that I can stay home and teach the kids. My sister and I were just discussing that very thing. She did the same for her son and they had to make some sacrifices but the Lord took care of their needs, sometimes in very surprising and wonderful ways. Yesterday the kids were asking me about why more people don't school their kids at home and I realize things aren't like they used to be. My mom stayed home and for years we only had one car that my dad took to work. We pinched some pennies and did without some things but we couldn't have had a more secure and happy childhood. I feel for kids that are in school all day and then go to latch-key until late.
Get this; yesterday my 13 yr old nephew came home from his first day in 8th grade and told his parents that they had a school assembly in which the school rules were given and the principle very emphatically told them they were not allow to wear crosses or christian symbols on clothing, hats, or around their necks. He said something like if the satanists can't wear their symbols, then neither could anyone else, except Hindus, who will be allowed to wear the jewel on their foreheads...???What?! Ignorant school officials don't even know the law and that they are discriminating against the kid's religious freedom. It is NOT against the law to wear a cross, to carry a bible or to speak of one's belief in public school, but most citizens are ignorant of their rights and allow this kind of thing. I am thinking about what I can do about it. My kids aren't in school but I pay taxes.

Funny PH, to paraphrase Barney, that's exactly the same idea I had! (for her to contact the ACLJ, that is.) Speaking of such things, I was watching the Guitar Player ep last night, and tho we have discussed and re-discussed the "electric" guitar on the sound track, I spotted something ELSE that I never noticed before...I believe it is the only episode where we see Andy actually wear his JP robe. You can see it on him as he talks to Bobby Fleet about the fines, and then you actually see him remove it and fold it after all is said and done!
Anyone else ever notice?
G-F--you are a bird in this world, a bird in this world! haha
May God bless,

Good morning, porch! Today is a physical therapy day, so have to get out there in a bit. Three days a week is really a drag, but I guess it's helping. I've still got a lot of strengthening to do, though. Just can't stay on my feet for any length of time before the muscles start to cramp and burn.
Spot, I'm just in awe of the strength and faith you're showing. I know you're hurting, and missing her so much, but you honor her with your attitude. What an example for all of us! I know the time seems long before you will see her again, but to her, it's just the blink of an eye. I try to remember that too. My Dale has been gone sixteen years now, but I will see him again. That's what keeps me going, and I know it's the same for you. Blessings, my friend.
A couple of my friends from work contacted me, and wanted to take me to breakfast on Saturday morning, after they get off work. I accepted, but offered to make a simple breakfast here instead. They accepted, but left the choice of gong out or cooking up to me. I think I'll cook some Aunt Hazel bacon, and make some pancakes and have a bowl of fruit, and some juice. That way, we can sit out in the sunroom and eat, and relax, and not have the busy-ness of a restaurant to intrude on our visit. One of the girls is Nigerian, and is a very picky eater, but I think she'll eat pancakes. I can't remember if she eats bacon or not, but if she doesn't, it's not a religious thing, it would be her taste. The other one eats anything, like me. I'm looking forward to a visit with them, they're both lovely people.
Well, guess I'd better go feed Toye Starr, then get ready to head out north. It's 8 miles to where my therapy is done, so that's sixteen miles round trip, or about one gallon of gas in my car. It gets about seventeen in town. That's at least 3.50 a trip (more or less), three days a week, so conservatively, it's $40 a month! That's almost as much as I spend on gas aside from those trips. My gasoline bill is usually about $50-55 each month. Humph! Sure wish they had a location closer to me. Eight miles doesn't seem like much to some people, but it's doubling the miles going on my car. Oh well. It is what it is.
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

That's great about the camping trip, SPOT. Be thinking of us, too...wish we could be there with you.
Boy, pancakes sound really good, Romeena...maybe we will have breakfast for dinner tonight. I spent all day in Corpus today running errands and the temperature was 102! Sean had to go and get the title to Dad's van and I had to find curriculum to begin Erin's piano lessons. Made a little tript to Hobby Lobby for some things, too. We met Bruce for lunch at Scholtszkty's....so good. Erin spent the day with St. Susan and worked on schoolwork there. I was over there early cause mom had a little TIA or something and it scared Susan. She is fine, though. I guess it is just going to happen from time to time. My mom just keeps ticking no matter what.
Wanted to check in since I wasn't able to this morning. I think I will let Bruce feed Bernie and his harem, and Thelma Lou today. I don't want to do it in this heat.

August 29, 2012 - Msg 90030:
No rain...not a drop, G-F and it was 100 degrees at 6pm and last i looked at 8pm it was 98 degrees. It feels Phoenix weather! It has something to do with Hurrican Issac pushing an area of high pressure down on us and it brought the heat from Arizona with it, I guess! Horrid. Tomorrow is going to be even worse. I am staying the house.

Howdy, porch. Just got back from the surgery center (yet again) but this time it was very minor. For years, I've had a little benign lipoma on my left shoulder, never bothered me, just minded its own business. About a month ago, it started getting tender, then grew larger and very firm, turned red and hot - in other words, it was inflamed. The doc gave me a course of antibiotics, but it didn't go away. So, this morning, I checked into the surgery center and he put me under mild sedation, shot it up with lidocaine, and cut it out. I've got an incision about three inches long, and at least an inch deep, all sutured up. That'll show that doggone lump! Anyway, after I came out of the sedation, Eloise and I went to Corner Bakery for lunch, then back home. What would I do without her?? She stayed to make sure I'm okay, then went home a few minutes ago. Now I'm feeling sleepy, think I'll just get a little nap. Blessings, all. --Romeena

Sorry I haven't had as much time to check in since home school began...just been a busy week.
Susan says mom is a little bit more dizzy than usual since the spell she had yesterday. I am wondering if it might have something to do with the antibiotic she has been on. My mind is foggy but it seems like somewhere in my memory I remember antibiotics doing that to some elderly folks.
I'm working on some "projects" that I will share more about later, but need the Lord's direction in where to get involved in giving. Prayers appreciated. Love ya ALL!
Still hotter than a well-diggers something-or-other...(what was that again Asa?)...no, maybe that was colder not hotter.

I think I mentioned before that I had caught a few eps of The Real McCoys and loved it...pretty funny stuff, actually. I sure wish TVLand or MeTV would show it.
G-F, when I was in high school, I never missed MASH and then in my 20's I watched it in syndication almost every night at 11pm. On one of our local stations, for years they would show Cheers at 10:30 and MASH at 11. Bruce and I watched it nearly every night, then they started showing Seinfeld instead of MASH.
Well, its 5pm and I am still doing laundry. These front load washers take longer than top loaders and it seems to take all day to wash three or four loads. After this bunch in the washer now, I am done for the day, though.
It was 100 degrees today but we do have a breeze so we can tolerate it.

From that same episode, Boo: Frank Burns(Teaching those Koreans English) - "Get us out of the U.N." (Frank was right about that one.)
Well folks, I hope you are all doing fine. I could be better, myself. It is about 12:30am, and I am still up, with no end to my "up-ness" in sight. You see, recently I broke one of my back molars, and today was the day I had it taken out. The procedure itself wasn't that bad, as the doctor told me it wouldn't. It is just when I got home and the novocaine wore off that it got a little less comfortable.
I guess I should look on the bright side; I once had two of my wisdom teeth taken out when I was much younger, and that was during the summer as well, but the difference there was that my family didn't have air conditioning. And it was hot. So that pain, combined with the heat, was not a very good recipe for healing.
I actually didn't get the IV sedation for this one, after I talked it over with the doctor, and I just took the local. I sometimes think I should have been knocked out, not because of any pain or anything, because like I said, it wasn't that bad during, even though he had a really tough time getting part of the tooth out. But rather because now I can remember hearing all that cracking of the tooth and stuff. But silly me, I had to be a man and tough it out. ;)
So if any of you nurses or mothers, or fathers, have a good remedy for a jaw that feels like you just got hit by a sledge hammer, I am all ears. I sure am not all teeth. Well, not anymore. :)
Doctor gave me some supposedly strong pain reliever, but maybe I am immune to them, because they don't work that good.
Well, I am going to try to eat some ice cream, and then maybe watch some tv. Yep, that's what I am going to do. Eat some ice cream, and watch some tv.
I think the only way I may get to sleep tonight is when I just get so tired I just fall over.
Goodnight all. Though I may visit again through the night.
