Boo and Ro - Thanks for the kind words and sympathy. I have learned that as all of the obstacles run through your life, you have to have the power and will to run right along side them so they dont leave you in their dust! :)
I'm glad to be back "home" here on the Porch and am looking so forward to many mornings and nights just rocking time away with a glass of tea (or a SONIC sized Dr. Pepper) in hand!
Y'all have a great Friday and we'll see you later! I left a big pitcher of tea, sweeten to your liking, on the porch table. Cups are right next to it.

Happy Saturday, everyone. I have to share some happenings on my little farm. First of all, I want to inform you that I have a mixed-up rooster who crows like a goat. Yes, he finally started crowing but I kept thinking it sounded odd, then my little neighbor, Maddie, said, "Bernie sounds like a goat!"...and she was right. Poor Bernie thinks he's a goat, I guess. Speaking of goats, my babies are adorable!! They have grown so much in a week and are acting like little goats now; jumping straight up in the air and just acting wacky. One of them (Gomer) stays glued to my legs when I am out there and likes to chew on my pant legs. After he has done that for awhile he likes to jump up on me. I saw him nearly jump on top of his mom's back today! The other baby is calmer but still pretty active. They are just so incredibly cute but they already smell like goats. I had to come in and change my shirt because I picked them up.
It is cool and rainly here today and we are enjoying what might be the last of the really cool weather. I think I will make a fire in the fireplace one last time tonight.
I think I had better go shower...I am still smelling that goat smell.

Hi, porch. Just curious - did any of you post that link? I chose not to click on it because it looks like spam to me. I think I'll alert Floyd. We've had things like this to blow through town before.
Boo, I agree completely. Little goats are just the cutest things ever. I love the way they can just jump straight up, from a flat-footed start. And the way they love to climb! It's just hard-wired in them, they want to stand on top of everything they see. I would love to hear Bernie doing his bleating crow. I can just imagine - "Crock-a-doodle-baaaaaa!" Too funny!

I remembered to set my clocks, but it takes several days for my inner clock to adapt. I sure hate losing that hour, but I do enjoy having the sun set a little later at night.
Boo, I hope you keep a journal of your little farm life. Some pics and videos would enjoyable for you also I bet.
PH, I have never woken up on the floor as you have, but I have woken with sore body parts that I can't account for. I know when I was younger my wife said sleeping with me was like being in a wrassling ring. I guess I would flip and turn and make all kinds of noise. But as I have gotten older, I have calmed down in that regard. But as sore as I feel some mornings, I sure wonder what happened during the night. I'm coming to the conclusion that old age ain't all it's cracked up to be. But considering the alternative, I guess I'll just make the best of it.
Spot, glad that Sherry is doing ok, and that her spirits are high. You both are in my prayers daily buddy.
John Masters, I pray for all you are going through to my friend. I know sometimes life can overwhelm us, but I believe the Lord will not put on our plate more than we can handle. Lean upon him when your feeling at the end of your rope, and see what miracles will come forth. And I need to remember this my own self. Easy to say, but challenging to apply sometimes.
Sure been a nice mild winter for us, as it has been for most of the porch it sounds like. Very spring like yesterday with temps in the 60's. So I washed the cars. I hope it stays nice for a while. A car wash usually assures a storm. :)

Friends, can I ask you for a favor if you agree and are up to it?: Two weeks ago ABC started a new Sunday evening show called GCB, which actually stands for "Good Christian B---hes" apparently from a book of the same title. It is an outright demeaning of both women and Christians! I watched most of it last week just to make sure that what other people were telling me is true, and believe me it is! Could you imagine the outcry if it had been GMB?? I'll let you guess at what I mean with the M. If so moved, please contact ABC. You can google GCB Protest to get more info. Thanks!

Poor old Warren. I always felt kinda sorry for him. He was basically a nice guy, but just a bit, uh, socially inept. All he needed was the right little girl to get through to him and give him a little real confidence (not to be confused with his feigned bravado) and he would have been just fine.
Beautiful day here! Blue sky, few wispy clouds for pretty contrast, 64 degrees, buds a-poppin' everywhere. The trees have put on their pale undergarments, and soon will be wearing full dresses of emerald green. The spirea (bridal wreath, my grandma called it) is blooming and is so fresh and pretty. My redbud tree out front is in bloom, and I think I see buds on the dogwood. Will have to look more closely. Irises are sending up fat buds all over the yard, and some have already flowered. The burgundy one out front has already bloomed and closed on the central part of the clump (older rhizomes) and now the youngsters that have formed around the outside are budding. I just love irises!
Well, gotta run. Will pick up Eloise and we'll go get some lunch, then mouse around a bit. Tuesday Morning (a discount store) has advertised beach umbrellas, and I need a new one to shade the pond. My old one broke last year. At 60% off, they're a bargain. I just hope they're not cheapies. Inexpensive is one thing, cheap is quite another. We shall see.

You are welcome Mary Wiggins. You have been on my mind in in my prayers today.
MDC, the "B" in GCB actually stands for "Belles". I watched some clips of the show on yutube after reading yur posts and was offended by the show on a few different levels. As a Christian, I am bothered but not surprised. I have been thinking about the ancient roman empire and how they treated Christians. In my opinion America is becoming more and more like it. It is ok to make fun of christians...makes me wonder how long it will be before it is ok to throw us into the arenas? As christians we aren't suprised by persecution...we have had a long break from it in this country but we had better get ready. This is not the time to be lukewarm, but to draw very close to God and seek holiness. Now, as a Texan and a woman, the show bothers me because these are not the women of texas I know and I would hate for the rest of the country think differently. Those women are the polar opposites of the women in my church.

Wanted to say thanks for praying for Bruce. He still doesn't know what will happen but he is doing much better at trusting in the Lord with the situation and is in much better spirits.
Bruce and I let the little goats out of the pen today to romp and they were hysterical! Fast little things, too, and already butting heads with each other. We stayed close by and let Elvis investigate them. He was acting very strangely and making strange noises at them...almost acting like he was trying to bite them but he didn't. I think he was trying to establish his place as boss but they weren't afraid of him. I don't know yet if it is safe to let them be together unless I am out there, though. I will probably stick Elvis in the pen with Bernie the rooster and let the little ones out tomorrow. He's going to hate it, but that's just too bad.
Better go get a shower. Those goat babies are so sweet and cuddly...I can't help but hold them and they seem to like it, unlike the Boer babies we had. At the rate they are growing I won't be able to hold them in a few weeks so I am cuddling them now.

Boo, your descriptions of the little goats and all the stuff that goes on around your place are just great. I know we're not supposed to envy, but I can't help being just a little jealous. As a country kid myself, I remember the years when we had critters around, and how much I enjoyed it. Now all I have is a spoiled little frou-frou, but I'm grateful for her, precious little thing that she is.
G-F, about possums -- it's hard to say what is "normal" behavior for one of those critters, with the exception of our very own Possum. The others are just likely to do most anything. Right here in town, I've seen them in a tree, and walking along the top of a fence, and while they're supposedly nocturnal, I think they're more diurnal, because I used to see a great big one almost every afternoon. He would appear along my back fence, and come nosing along through the flowerbed on the west side fence, until he got close to the house. Then he'd cut across the yard and make his way to the feeding stones around the birdbath, where he would root around for scraps that the squirrels and birds might have left. This in bright, broad daylight! Many times in the early morning, I'd go out and find little divots all over the yard, where he had dug up grubs during the night. I wish he'd come back and do some more of that, but I rather imagine a dog got him, or a car hit him, because he just suddenly disappeared. I never minded him coming in, he did no harm, and was fun to watch. And yes, come to think of it, he did perch on a big old boulder out there one day. Just sat there like the king of the mountain!
Well, guess I'd better turn in. The pond guys are coming tomorrow to clean that mucky pond, and I'm not sure what time, but know it's in the morning. I'd better get some sleep so I can get up and find my socks in time meet them when they get here. Then I have to work tomorrow night. (groan)
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Good morning to you, too, John Masters. It is spring break here so we all slept in this morning. I was up late last night so I was pretty tired. To tell you the truth, I had some serious talking to do with the Lord. I have been slacking on some things and found myself to be in a lukewarm state. I had gotten to the point for months now that I had not been reading the bible as I should or praying as I should and it was taking its toll on me. For a Christian, not spending time with God cools our zeal considerably!..no suprise. I wish I could stay in the place i should be and stop drifting so easily, but alas, this seems to be the way I have always been. God keep me (and all of us) faithful.

Howdy, porch! You're right, boo, and one of these days I'm going to surprise you with a visit. Amanda has invited me several times, and one of these days I'll surprise her, too!
The pond guys have come and gone, and I'[m sure glad they did the job, and not me. They brought huge bins, pumped the water (which was clear) into them until it got near the bottom and the muck started stirring up. Then they just pumped it out and funneled it into flower beds and on the grass. It will be excellent fertilizer. The fish, of course, were caught and put in one of the big bins. Then they got down in the pond and cleaned the walls and the bottom, rinsed it all down and pumped that water out, and then started returning the water in the bins to the pond. Topped it all off with water from the hose, and the pond is clean. They replaced one of my pumps, which I already knew was pretty tired, so the fountain is running better than it was. Sure does look better! I think I'm going to set it up with them for regular maintenance, at least every two months, maybe monthly. It's quite reasonable if done often, would make one of these major projects unnecessary, and the pond would always be clean and pretty.
Apparently that wretched bird has gotten some of the fish. There are four missing. Two shebunkins, my pretty speckled comet, and the beautiful fantail comet that I nursed through a swim-bladder problem. I hate that bird! I think he must have done his dirty work a couple of weeks ago, when the snake had blown off the bridge and floated beneath it, out of sight. I've ordered two more snakes, and will be putting them out there for extra protection. It just hurts my heart to think of my pretty, trusting little fish being eaten by that sword-beaked monster. Miserable thing.
Well, guess I'd better go rustle up some lunch, then catch a nap, because I have to work tonight. Please, Lord - find me something else to do, something I can do from home. I'm getting too old for this.
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

What an afternoon! First, Sean and his friend Alaina came home from volunteering at the local church-run thrift store and they are so happy because an elderly woman came in the shop and bought a recliner. As it turns out, the lady was 71 and had suffered a recent heart attack. She and her husband, who is blind, have been living in a motel and they have no transportation. She walked all the way to the baptist church and they gave her 50 dollars to buy a recliner that her husband could sleep in due to his back injury. Anyway, she bought the chair and then asked for help getting it home...the poor woman was about to cry because nobody would help her. Well Sean and Alaina were not about to see that happen so they took the lady and her recliner to the motel they were staying in. They were happy to have been able to do a good deed and I told them to take me to the motel so I could meet the lady and find out if they needed help. As I was getting ready, Sean went out to feed the goats and came in to tell me that one of our babies was dead. It had gotten wedged somehow between the pen and a tarp that was tied on to keep out the wind and rain. It appeared that the little thing had struggled itself to death...UNTIL...they went out a second time and Alaina took a good long look at the little thing and it opened its eyes and raised its head. It wasn't easy, but Sean managed to get the little thing out...he was wedged in there pretty good, but after he was freed and returned to his mama he was ok and mama goat was very relieved (so was I). While all this was going on I had talked to bruce on the phone and he told me that he had some bad news concerning work and would tell me about it when he got home. At the time I just decided to go get my mind off things so we went to meet the elderly couple in the motel. George is 81 and Katherine is 71. George only draws social security at 1100 a month for both of them. He said he loves it here but doesn't know if they will make it and be able to stay. George was a painter by trade and now is having a hard time making it without retirement benefits. So sad to see elderly americans in this condition. I bought them dinner and offered to take Katherine to the store if she needed to go. I felt for these people because they were both so sweet and there is something so helpless about their situation at their age and with their physical limitations. I can't help but think that the Lord led us to them and wants us to try to do something for them. I told her I would be dropping by to see if they needed anything and I want to get to know them and share the gospel with them. If you feel led, please pray for Margaret and George and that I would be obedient to anything that the Lord wants to do for them. Thanks.
I will let you know what is going on with bruce and his job.

Well, Bruce hasn't lost his job but he had a bomb dropped on him today by his boss that is making things very difficult for him. I had to pray with him tonight because he is just so tired and is in despair. He told me today that he felt so stressed today that he was afraid he was having a heart attack. I am praying for his peace and protection. I would rather he quit and find a lesser paying job and buy a smaller place than have him die from the stress! Oh, how I wish I could lift the burder from him but I can't. He is certainly going through a hard trial and needs faith. He went to bed early because he needs rest. They have been working him to death before all this and now he is dealing with an even worse situation. I know God has a plan and He will take care of us but it is very hard to watch Bruce go through this. He just isn't being treated right but in this world we will have tribulation.

Burdens are very heavy and sometimes, Boo, it can make you want to run out into a large field in the middle of nowhere, sit down, cross your legs and quit. Just when you think you cant take another step....you find you can. Just keep walking and dont look back. I know that sounds real short and easier said than done. But inner discipline combined with faith and those around you will be the pavement in front of you to solidify your steps.
Ro - Sorry for your fish getting nabbed by that bird. Sounds like your pond got a thorough cleaning though.

Mary Wiggins, I was saddened to learn about the tragic loss of your grandchild. After all those prayers ... I'm at a loss for words. So I'll just give you a hug (((((Mary Wiggins))))). Please pass it on to your daughter and son-in-law.
MDC and Boo, I have seen the commercials for the GCB program and thought it was odd they don't spell out the words. Then after reading both of your postings, I think I know why they used initials. They wanted controversy to attract viewers!!! Well it didn't work with me.
These postings remind me of what I consider to be some questionable advertising here in Canada.
The first example involves a British fashion company called "French Connection United Kingdom". On the huge electric sign outside of the store, they display the store's initials instead of the store name. Makes me wonder why they added the United Kingdom ... for the shock value maybe?
The second example involves radio advertising taking the advantage of double meanings. Read about it at http://tinyurl.com/894y9e5
possum under a rock, I searched for a photo of a "possum on a rock", but found an alternate photo I call "possum on a binge" http://tinyurl.com/7o6q6qj
Mary Wiggins, great to hear you're having warm weather in Michigan. We are east of you in southern Ontario. Toronto broke the record for high temperature last Sunday when it reached 62.6º Fahrenheit. And for the next five days, they are predicting low to mid 60's. I guess it is safe to put away the snow shovels, eh?
Boo, regarding your husband's job situation, have there been any hints about early buyouts?
MDC, I love that Navajo saying you posted.

To answer your question about bruce's job situation, no, he works for a branch of the government and we all know about the problems associated with that.
Going back to bed with the heating pad. I have one of those bad headaches that start in the neck and creep up the back of your head. Sress you think?? ;)

Good evening Porch!
So many people are suffering, real suffering, not Emma Watson suffering. Everyone has my prayers. My husband was just asking me when I think I will be released from my doctor to have back surgery so I can get a job next year. I've decided to go back to school while I'm down. As a fashion major there is little I can do since my ankle fusion. We have no retirement. I'm only in my mid-30s but husband is almost 47 and we have no retirement. He's tired.
Rev, it's such a nice time of year to travel. Enjoy yourself!
Boo, like Romeena I enjoy your goat stories. I grew up in the country and though we didn't own any farm animals, my best friend did and we had such fun! Homemaker has great stories as well. Miss you, Hm!
Romeena, you should visit Boo!
Spot, I'm so glad Miss Sherry is doing better!
Poor Horatio, I don't understand what you mean about the UK advertisement. Can you explain me?
John Masters, I'm glad you're back to posting regularly!

Once again sleep eludes me. I was listening to the episode with the spoiled kid and I have to say that I really like how Andy said you feel good working hard and knowing you earned money. I thought Opie's response of feeling good and tired is pretty much right! Our oldest 2 children feel like Arnold Winkler in that in allowance is what children are allowed to have without having to work for it. They let us know about their friends parents giving cars, cell phones, etc to kids just because. Bryan said that he has to work so should they if they want things but not need them.
The next episode was when Barney bought the car. First, I just love red barns too. I felt so bad for Barney! That blonde guy played the bad guy in several TAG eps, didn't he? The parts that puzzle me are, why wouldn't Andy follow the broken down car in the squad car and how were they planning on arresting the swindlers? I just want to give the sweet elderly woman at the end a hug!
Well, I hope to finally get some sleep. If I don't I'll be back with more comments.
Lucy
P.S. Thank you for your vote of confidence with schooling, Rev! :0)

Howdy, porch! Lovely day here today. Cloudy, but pleasant in the mid-70s. Flowers are just bursting into bloom everywhere. I couldn't resist, so took the camera out and got a few shots. They're never as pretty in the pictures, but better than nothing. I took Toye Starr with me, perched her on a big flat rock and got her in some of the shots as well. Little brat, she has an uncanny talent for turning her head away just as I snap the picture, so I have a lot of pictures of a fluffy white blob with no face. Missed one that would have been hilarious, but I wasn't ready to snap. She was curious about the flowers all around the base of the rock, and while standing, she leaned over to try to sniff them. Naturally, being as little and light as she is, gravity took over and her back end just lifted off toward the sky, and she almost turned a flip into the flowers. She recovered just in time. What a shot that would have been! I wish I had a good photo storage location, so I could give you a link and show off my pretty flowers, but I just haven't found anything. I'd like to re-start the porch album as well. Anybody have any suggestions?
Well, got to get moving. They say confession is good for the soul, so I think I'll really do my soul a favor, and confess that my Christmas stuff is still up. The plan is for me to dismantle all the smaller stuff, like the Nativity on the credenza, Snowman Row on the mantle, and all the little sit-around things and put them away. Then tomorrow Eloise is coming over to help me take the tree down. Greater love hath no friend than this.... Anyway, then David will come by tomorrow night and help me tie and wrap the tree and put it back in its closet. I guess I should be ashamed, or at least a little embarrassed for all that stuff to still be out, but I'm not. I enjoy it, Toye Starr doesn't care, so what's the rush? Now I'm ready for it to go, so it's going.
Only problem is, there's a fish fry at church tonight and I have a ticket. I've GOT to wash my hair before I go, so I have about an hour and a half to get all the little stuff put away. Hmmm. Better get to it! Blessings, friends. --Romeena
