Wow, what a cool video! Thanks, G-F! I really enjoyed that. Incidentally, if that young man needs a home, I'll adopt him! What a great kid. Reminds me of my grandsons. I think any one of them would do the same. We're just an animal-loving family, and all the guys seem to have a soft spot for the helpless critters. I have always felt that a man never shows his manliness more than when he's helping the helpless.
Rough night at work last night. All it takes is one, and I had her. I believe with a little practice, she could have learned to play "Jingle Bells" on that dratted call bell. Nearly drove me nutty, and it was all silly stuff. (My baby sneezed. Do you think she's got a cold? Could she be getting pneumonia?) Thank heaven she'll be discharged before I have to work again.
Well, I'm going to put my weary bones in the bed for a while. My back is about to break. Blessings, all. --Romeena

HAHAHA...thanks for making me laugh out loud, Ro (the thing about jingle bells!). I have had quite a few of those kind of patients and it is horrible. Too bad there is no way to infuse brain cells into them.
Thanks, MDC. I appreaciate those prayers. :)
Had a good date night last night and stayed out of the chicken coop. It was really raining last night so we went out for a quick supper and then stayed in out of the rain. The peace and serenity was nice and being able to hold a conversation without a thousand interruptions was nice, too. The evening was AMAZING. hehe
Hope you all are haing a nice weekend.

Mornin' Honeys and Dears. It is a nice, cool morning here in south texas and I am about to get ready for preachin'. :) Looking forward to seeing my church family and getting some hugs...oh, and hearing some teaching from God's word.
No, G-F, didn't get to go to the duck pond in the rain.
Where's Possum? I thought of her yesterday when i went to Lowe's for some paint and as soon as I walked in, there was a row of toilets on sale.
Oh, if you don't mind, I would like to add a dear friend to the porch prayer list for today. He is a childhood friend named Alan who is a minister. His wife left him yesterday and he is broken-hearted. There have been problems in the relationship for awhile but he has been hanging on for dear life and her heart has not been in it for a couple of years. I think this is finally it for the relationship. It is a second marriage for both but they have been together for awhile. He has been struggling so hard and now he is having to face his fear and deal with the loss. I just hurt for him because he is such a sweet person with a difficult past...he came from a very troubled home.
Well, better git it in gear and git ready!

Very true, Asa. In fact, it seems to me that sometimes he works extra hard on someone that he sees as a real threat to his agenda. Unfortunately, ministers fall in that category. Prayers for your friend, Boo. I'm sorry he's having to deal with such a thing.
I'm glad you liked that "Bark worse than bite" video. I knew you would. I just sat here and laughed myself silly when I first saw it. As Sassy the cat said in "The Incredible Journey" - cats rule and dogs drool. That certainly seemed to be the case in that video. That poor dog - not the bravest of hearts, was he? Apparently he's aware that cats come equipped with switchblades on their feet.
We have had some rain, at least an inch, I think. Anyway, I'm now going out front periodically and plugging the drainage pump in to clear the catch basin, so the gutters can empty. Joe is coming tomorrow to see about fixing that switch.
Well, I feel a nap coming on. It was cold in our SS classroom this morning, and cold in the Spring Creek restaurant where a bunch of us went to lunch. However, it's nice and warm in this house, and I feel like snuggling up with Toye Starr and getting all cozy and warm, and drifting off to sleep. It just doesn't get much better than that, these days. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Thank you for those prayers for Alan. He is meeting with his wife this morning to talk about how they are going to arrange the seperation and prepare for divorce, I guess. He is going to need God's strength.
Have to go buy a twin bed for mom and paint her new bedroom. I hope she will not get too stressed from moving out of the room she shared with Dad. She says she wants to then she doesn't. She is doing ok but it is so hard for her because she really misses him. My sister is trying to deal with her own grief and help mom. I do what I can but my sister is dealing with it everyday. I have been trying to get mom to agree to come over to my house at least one day a week and just be with us here. I think being out in the country, sitting on the porch and watching the birds would be good for her but she has to force herself to leave the security of home, espcially now.
Well, better finish the coffee and get everyone up so we can start painting and find a bed.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Have fun on your camping trip, Spot. Take good care of Miss Sherry! I'm so glad you are getting to do these things, happy that she feels well enough to go. God is good!
Well, Joe and Jorge were here today, starting to wake the yard up. We pruned the roses, fixed the drainage pump (it wasn't really broken, just had some debris jammed in the switch unit), I finished bringing in all the twinkle lights, and Jorge moved the deer to the side of the house. I have to wait and let David put it all away in the garage, because he has his own "system" for doing so. Here's a shocker - I did a rough estimate of the number of twinkle lights that were out there, and it totals over a mile of lights! I could hardly believe it, but there it is. There are eighteen 150-light strings, that's 2700 feet. They were new this year, and I still had the boxes, so knew exactly how many there were. There are at least twenty-five 100-light strings, that's another 2500 feet. That's 5,200 feet and there are a few 50-light strings here and there, so it's over a mile of lights. Who'da thunk it? I keep thinking I've misfigured somewhere, but if I have, I can't find the error. Amazing.
Well, gotta go to work. Jorge will be back tomorrow morning to spray beneficial nematodes everywhere, hoping to control the grub worms that have attacked the lawn. The little critters like termites, too. I don't think I have any, but we'll spray the nematodes around the foundation of the house as well, just for good measure. They won't harm anything else, but they'll sure get the bad stuff. I love organic!
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Better get going.

Well, went to the doc and I am a little anemic but not alot so I am starting on iron and will recheck in six weeks. Turns out my liver enzymes are somewhat elevated so I am stopping the Lipitor for 6 weeks (didn't we just talk about this Ro? ;). I am also now officially diabetic. A1C was only 6.5 but that is the "crossing over" point. I have lost a few pounds from cutting out sugar recently, which is good. My cholesterol looked fantastic but we are cutting out the Lipitor so don't know what it will look like in 6 weeks, darn it. Oh well...time to get serious about taking care of myself. Prayers appreciated. :)
Good news...doc said he got the results of Sean's labs from when I took him to the endocrine docs in Houson and they looked good. Yay! That is really good new.

Good evening, porch! Boo, it sounds like you have indeed just worn yourself out. No surprise, the way you've been burning your candle at both ends and in the middle for the past few weeks. I know it was beyond your control, but still, there are consequences. Personally, I consider being taken off Lipitor to be good news. Try to avoid going back on it if you can. That stuff is dangerous, and so are the artificial sweeteners. There is a hidden rebound with them, proven in several major studies, so try to avoid them as well. For your cholesterol, get you some Cholest-Off (it's OTC, you can get it at the grocery store) and use as directed. It will definitely help you keep your cholesterol under control. Eat a little olive oil every day, and an avocado two or three times a week. Eat nuts, especially walnuts and almonds. You may just be surprised at how well you will do. I would just love to see you walk in there in six weeks and find your cholesterol is better than when on the Lipitor. I'll admit, that's probably asking a lot, because the Lipitor does so many drastic things to your liver function, but it could happen. Would love to see your doctor's face if it did. Oh, and congratulations on the loss of a few pounds. Keep that up, and your early diabetes may just subside or disappear.
It makes me happy to think about Spot and Miss Sherry on their camping trip. I'm so glad they could go, and I hope they just have a wonderful time. Prayers continue.
Well, I'm pooped. Worked all day in the yard yesterday with Joe and Jorge, then worked last night, and my back feels like a mule kicked me. I knew better, and Joe kept telling me to go sit down, but it's hard to just sit and watch someone else work, especially when they're doing work that you enjoy yourself, so I kept going. I'm paying for it now. I stayed up when I got home this morning, because Jorge had come back to spray beneficial nematodes everywhere. I let him do it, but we had fun talking about it. He was just fascinated with the idea that the very slightly cloudy water we put in the reservoir on the hose-end sprayer actually contained little worms, and that was a good thing. He couldn't see them, of course, so was skeptical, but I finally made him understand that they're microscopic. Then he made a big joke out of the idea of the tiny worms finding a big old grub worm, and saying "All of that for little me??" and diving in for the feast. Jorge is so nice, can be so funny, and works so hard to learn English. He has come a long way, and is teaching me Spanish at the same time. Truth is, he's the best argument in favor of amnesty I can think of. Too bad there are so many others who are not like him.
Well, I think I need to get in my big chair for a while and see if it will pull the kinks out of my back. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena
February 21, 2012 - Msg 87467:
Thanks, Ro. I will follow your advice religiously. I am a little excited about the prospect of going off the Lipitor....it would be great to find out I didn't need it. I don't expect my cholesterol to be as good as it is on the Lipitor, but it doesn't have to be, in my opinion. I will settle for it being higher if I can keep the blood sugar within acceptable limits. I am going to walk several days each week and I know that will help, too. You know, there are quite a few docs out there who believe that the total cholesterol doesn't determine as much as the medical industry would have us to believe. The doctor I am going to now is a very unintimidating, sweet-spirited Christian man who listens well and is accepting of my opinions (good thing for him). haha.

Boo....will be praying you can stay off the "Lipitorcher". What Ro said is great advice about what to take for cholesterol. I know this may sound cazy but I've read a couple studies through the years that say eating raw celery can do as much for cholesterol as synthetic meds can do and without the side affects. I have read where several doctors said this. Also drinking soluble fiber (psylium) daily is very good. (Iknow.....just call me Dr. Rev:) )
Did Spot and Miss Sherry say where they were going? To the lake or mountains?

February 22, 2012 - Msg 87477:
Good morning, everyone! G-F, I'd like to second MDC's comments. You have indeed been a welcome addition to this porch.
Lots of good advice for you, Boo, from these folks. I take cinnamon, and I try to eat a lot of fiber. I agree, I think a lot of the furor over cholesterol levels is "much ado about nothing." My endocrinologist and my primary doc both try to scare me, acting all horrified over my LDL being 110, but my cardiologist just laughs and says forget it, I don't need medication. The risk ratio is 3.4, and anything under 3.6 is acceptable, so am not sure what the other two are so upset about. Still, I'm going to ramp up my natural remedies and see if I can get the LDL under 100 without their drugs, if for no other reason than to let me say "haha" to them.
MDC, I agree that Truvia (stevia) is a good alternative sweetener, not toxic like aspartame and the others, but it still has that whangy aftertaste that I just can't handle. I wish I could, but I can't. So, I continue to eat natural sugar, though I do limit the quantity. I drink about two or three regular sodas a month, I drink my tea plain, and when cooking or baking, I reduce the sugar in a recipe by at least 1/4, sometimes as much as 1/3, depending on the recipe. I eat candy and such, but very little. I bought a quarter-pound of wonderful caramel-pecan fudge at a sale at the hospital two weeks ago, and still have at least 2/3 of it left. I'll eventually eat it, but it may take weeks. I've learned that it's the first bite of something like that, that is so enjoyable. After that first bite, it's just more of the same. So, I spread it out, and therefore enjoy lots of "first bites."
Boo, I know you know this, but just be sure you're not taking that iron on an empty stomach. Take it in the middle of a meal, so it gets well-mixed with food. Just eating a cracker or something with it isn't enough.
Well, gotta run. Eloise and I are going to go hunt up some lunch somewhere, not sure where, but it will be good. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

February 22, 2012 - Msg 87479:
I can handle the Truvia but like my tea and coffee just as well unsweetened so we'll see. I think you have a good point there, Ro. It is true that with something sweet, the taste buds get "twanged" in the first bite or two and then not so much. Not a bad idea. I am not that much of a sweet-eater so its not hard for me to resist sweets. My problem is with other things like too much butter, bread, potatoes, corn, and CHEESE! Yikes, how I love cheese...like a rat!
I took the iron with a full meal and it didn't help. It is still bothering me off and on today. I called the pharmacist at Walgreens and she told me to try the "Slow Fe" that is time-released and less likely to cause stomach trouble. I am going to give my stomach a few days off first and then try it. I have a stomach like my mom's and so many meds bother me, even with food. I don't have a clock in my stomach, though, so that's good. ;)
Went to see mom today and helped her with a bath. She is sad but doing pretty well. She is a tough cookie.

Howdy Possum...pull up an old toilet and let's chat. ;)
I talked to my friend Cynthia, who has breast cancer, and she is having a very tough time. She has to go back to houston tomorrow for more chemo and she has been so sick. I heard something different in her voice and words today...I think she is losing hope. It makes me feel so helpless because I can't help her more. She is one of those tough, independant Texas women who isn't used to letting anyone else do anything for her and it is eating her up having to depend on anyone else. I talk to her, though, and offer my help...and pray, pray, pray. She told me she would need me more later and she would call on me. It scared me because it sounded like she is thinking she isn't going to make it. I am going to be here with her to the end. Our Millie helped me to see the importance of committing to our friends in their hour of deepest need. There is nothing easy about it, in fact it is downright painful, but love doesn't run when the going gets tough.
Well, better go get supper finished. Poor Bruce is working extra hours again. It really bugs me that he is doing the work of three or four men because the government can't afford to hire on anyone else because of all the budget cuts. At least he has a good job, so don't want to complain but I get concerned for his health. He is in a stressful position and alot rides on the job he does.
Talk to you all later, porch buddies. Hope SPOT and Sherry are having a good time.

Good Evening Friends!
I hope this finds everyone well! I have been a busy bee lately. Still praying for Boo and Miss Sherry.
As a non-Catholic I am doing my first Lent this year. I felt convicted today. I am giving up Facebook and Twitter until Easter except to give birthday wishes to the boys. I'll still be here so I can be found. I'm looking forward to spending time with the Lord. Hopefully I will survive!
So, whatever happened to Miss Rosemary and Hilda Mae after the first season? It's not like Barney didn't have a girl on the side after Thelma Lou. I think Miss Rosemary seemed sweet. Just a thought.
Blessings to you and yours,
Lucy

Good enening porch, just stopping by before I hit the ole ironing board. Been a busy week with lots going on .
Weird weather on my end of the porch. Snowing and cold on Sunday and the 70's today. We had some severe thunderstorms last night.
Please pray for my family. My 91 year old aunt passed on tonight. She has been sick for a very long time and wanting to go home to be with the Lord and her husband. Her daughters and grandchildren are struggling . I also have another aunt who is in her late 80's and is likely going to pass on very soon.
She is in a nursing home and battling stomach cancer(they think) She is being kept heavily sedated for now. Even though we know what's coming it is still very hard to lose both of the so close together. Thanks for your prayers.
Prayers for everyone, Boo, Spot, Sherry and all.
Night all

Lucy, I saw miss rosemary in a color ep today but her name wasn't miss rosemary and she was hanging out with Aunt Bee and Clara. Curious...

G-F, it ain't my aging memory that came up with that archive info. One day when I had too much time on my hands, I copied and pasted all the archives into six large Word documents. As a result, now it is fairly easy for me to search through them to refresh our fading memories.
Hey TOM, we missed a predicted 20 centimeters (8 inches) of snow up here near Toronto today. We ended up getting a mixture of rain and slush instead. It's funny being in Canada in the middle of winter where there is no snow on the ground.

Hey Folks
G-F Thanks for the weather warnings. We do tend to get what you get a day, or less, later. This year, like PH's, our snowfall totals are way, way down. We have gotten only 105 inches or so, which is about half of what we usually get. Last night and today have been especially nasty very windy and about 8 inches of snow so far with a lot more coming, I guess.
Well, take care friends. I've been reading often and posting little. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.
Peace,

Tom, I hope your stepdad gets better real soon. May the doctors have wisdom and determine what the cause of the pain is and help him get better.
Praying for God's healing and restoration for all on the porch who have medical issues including Big Maude's elderly aunt, Miss Sherry, and anyone else who has a need. My own daughter could also use your prayers. She is almost 21 weeks along in her pregnancy and has placenta previa and a hematoma, (blood clot), that threaten the pregnancy. She now has a new problem where all her amniotic fluid has leaked out. The risk for infection is very high, as is the risk for going into labor. It has been 3 days since this happened and every day is helping to bring her baby closer to the goal of at least 24 weeks gestation, when a baby has a much greater chance of survival. I personally am praying for her fluid to replenish, the tear to heal, and no infection of course. I am believing God will get her much closer to term and that all will be healthy!
Thanks for praying for her, you guys are the best!!!
Have a great, Mayberry Day!

My goodness Mary Wiggins, I am so sorry your Daughter is having those challenges with her pregnancy. And I will certainly pray for her to be healed and for the well being of her baby. And for you and your family during this time of concern.
And my prayers continue to go out for all of our Porchters who are in need. I guess we all are in need in one way or another.
Boo, I had quite forgotten about you story and the toilet. I don't know how I forgot, but the image is firmly engraven in my minds eye. lol
Well the last week of Feb,is here. March is spring for me, and boy I like spring pretty fine.
I pray you all have a wonderful day.

Hi All.
PRAYER
If you can pray for others
When your heart suffers,too...
If you can ease another's pain
By any act you do-
If you can laugh when others
Would only pause to weep...
If you can gather courage
When the road is growing steep-
Then God willnot forget you
For everything you do
The more you give to others,
The more comes back to you.
PRAYER FOR EVERYONE.

Hello Porch,
How do you do? We have had a good day. I cannot wait until we are able to get back into church. We go to a mega church and it's so difficult with my wheelchair. I'm not quite able to leave my ankle down too long because of swelling. The Mr, 2 of the kids, and I went for a picnic near the river and looked for a new home. Hoping the Lord will show us where to go.
Tom, I hope your stepdad feels better real soon. Thank you for the nice poem.
Mary Wiggins, I hate to hear that about your daughter. I hope she's able to go another 3 weeks. It's a scary time!
I guess it wasn't necessary to record the race. Do y'all know what channel and time it will be on tomorrow?
Last night I was listening to Opie and the Bully and that got me thinking (yes, this can be scary), but what Andy did was great. Also, can you believe milk was only 5 cents?
Well, we are about to watch Celebrity Apprentice. My husband loves that show.
Take care of yourselves!
Blessings,
Lucy Matthews

Hi Lucy, hope your ankle is better soon...you certainly have been dealing with this for a long time now.
I noticed something interesting while watching the shoplifter episode of TAGS yesterday that I have not hear anyone mention. I noticed that Ben Weaver was wearing the very same tie that Gomer bought when he went shopping for his date with Mary Grace. Watch for it when you see those eps.
