Romeena, Sounds like you went on one of these cruises? Been tring to get Mrs. G-F to go on one..No Way! She gets car sick, so a cruise is really out of the question. It was all I could do to get her to go to the OBX last year. I go to Mayberry Days every year so a cruise would be really pushing it! Sounds like ALOT of fun tho.
REV. Looks like the storm may push more towards the OBX? Will keep you all in our prayers...G-F

Hey you folks on the east coast (Rev and possum among others), did you feel the earthquake this afternoon? We felt it up here near in Canada (southern Ontario). Surprisingly it caused no damage. But we did have a storm the day before that actually flooded basements, uprooted trees and blocked roads.
Also, it's a sad time for Canadian politics. Jack Layton, the head of the New Democratic Party, passed away at age 61.
Here in Canada, we have more than just the two political parties you have in the USA. We have the Conservatives, the Liberals, the New Democrats (NDP), Bloc de Quebecois, and the Green Party. I like having more than two choices.
Hey to auh20. So you think about me everytime you enter a Tim Hortons? Are you munchin on those timbits and poutine?
After their most recent price increase, we stopped getting my wife's coffee at Tim Horton's. We now purchase it at the local McDonald's where she claims that McDonalds serves more coffee than Tim Hortons for any given size.

Hey to Boo. I hear you got some construction repairs going on at your new place. What are you doing with all the dirty laundry in the meantime? Why not try turning the clothing inside out so you can wear them twice before washing them? LOL.
Hey to G-F.
Check to see with the cruise line if their boat has stabilizers that are deployed when the waves get rough. And their dispensary should also have plenty of motion sickness pills available for the customers. So between the two, your wife should be able to tolerate a cruise.

Hey PH... Bruce hooked the washer and dryer up for me and I washed 7 or 8 loads today so i am good for a few days. There is something I wanted to share with you. Remember when i was having so much trouble with my two dogs and was having to put them on cables during the day because they were so destructive. You expressed concern for them and suggest I train them. Well, now that they are almost a year and a half old, they have turned out to be great dogs. They are free to roam our 5 acres all the time now and have been for some time. No trouble anymore. They don't tear things up or bother the neighbors and they never dig out of our fence. Great watchdogs, too. They are very eager to please and they did something the other day that I thought was really astounding. They know I don't want them going out the front gate and it is always kept closed because people walk or ride bikes past our place from time to time and our Hank is not exactly docile when it comes to strangers. Anyway, awhile back, the gate was open because we had a visitor that was getting ready to leave. I was standing out front when I heard a little girl cry out and when I looked toward the street, there was a child and her mom who had been riding bikes and the dogs tore off toward the street towards them. Well, even though the dogs scared them, the dogs did not go past the gate. I couldn't believe what i was seeing. I know it was a huge temptation for them to tear out that gate and chase those bikes but they didn't. Pretty darned good dogs they have turned out to be and I feel secure knowing they are keeping an eye on the place. Glad I hung in there and kept them.
Ro, prayers for your procedure tomorrow. So glad to hear what a joy little Toye Starr is to you!
REV, you are off the hook. I didn't think it was you. I suspected it might be MDC but he hasn't been around today. haha

Morning to the Porch.
First off, Ro, I pray your procedure today goes well and all is clean.
Possum, how wonderful that is about Laci, bless her heart. They grow so fast, don't they?
Boo, I can just imagine you walking out to your barn in the heat, with your pants wrapped around your head, sweat trickling down your face, gasping in a hoarse voice "water...I need water." (ya nut!) (:
Good to see you PH. I do believe there will be a 3rd viable party start up here in the USA in the not to distant future. And my guess that will open the gates for even more party's. Just my opinion though.
These are some perilous times. Wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes in divers places, pestlences, famine, economic collapse and upheavel. Hmmmm, makes ya think, huh?
Well I better get going. Need to do some a/c work on the roof today. The battle of the wasps returns! Wish me luck.

Oh, G-F. I'm like your wife. I get motion sickness pretty easy. I can drive a car all day, but make me a passanger, especially in the back seat, and I'm green in about 15 minutes. Not so bad in the front seat, but the back seat.... forget it.

I just saw a quote from Gov. Perry that said, "In Texas, we teach both creationism and evolution in schools". What? That's either a bald-faced lie or he is really ignorant. Never has I heard of creationism being taught in our public schools.
Asa, as far as the state of affairs in this world right now, I have been thinking all right. Just last night Sean and I were talking about it and I told him that I wish Jesus would just come and get us the next second. Nothing, but nothing is holding me here. I wouldn't even look back!
Possum, I forgot to mention yesterday that I didn't know Lacy wasn't walking without help before. Great to hear she is making strides on her on now. Oh, and I will let you know how Jace is doing when I hear something. :)
Better go get dressed. I am still drinking coffee and wearing my night clothes at almost 10am (it's the last week before school starts for us).

Hey to Spot. Did you feel the effects of the recent earthquake that rocked the eastern seaboard and southern Canada?
More news about the after affects of the recent earthquake. I heard on the news today that the Washington Monument in Washington DC is closed because a crack was discovered.
Hey Asa. That third political party you are referring to, is that the Tea Party? Do they have official recognition to put people on the ballot yet?
Boo, I'm so glad to hear that your dogs have seemed to settle down and accept you as their pack leader. Your efforts have been rewarded.
After watching episodes of The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, I have learned that every dog is trainable. Some just take longer and require owners who have the time and motivation to persevere.

Howdy, porch. I'm back, none the worse for wear. Surgery went well. My left hand is wrapped, with nothing but my fingers and thumb sticking out, and they're a little swollen and stiff, feel like little sausages. I can't use the mouse, as the thick padding over the palm gets in the way. So, I'm mousing right-handed, which I can do, but is a little awkward. Also, mostly typing with my right hand, left is pretty useless, so is slow going. Doc insisted on writing a prescription for at least a muscle relaxer, since I cannot tolerate even the mildest pain pills. He said most of the pain in these surgeries is from muscles that are "startled" by the newly-reestablished communication with the freed-up nerves. I haven't filled the Rx, don't expect to.
So far, pain has been zero. Nada. I haven't taken anything, not even an Advil. I will if I need it, but I recall that I had no pain when he fixed my right hand about six years ago. The man is amazing. While I was sedated (no general anesthesia, just a mix of Versed, Fentanyl and Propofol) he injected the base of my left thumb with steroids, to combat the arthritis that has been bothering me so much. He also removed a big old ugly black mole from my right forearm. The dermatologist had refused to remove it because "it's benign, no threat, and would leave a visible scar." Well, the thing isn't factory original, and I would prefer a scar to having to reply to the people who ask at least once a day if I've had it "checked." So, I will now have a neat little scar instead of that ugly mole.
Boo, I'm glad to hear that the dogs have settled down and aren't causing you trouble like they were. Sounds like it was a matter of waiting for puppies to grow up.
MDC, seriously? 118 degrees? Good grief! Who needs an oven in that heat? Just stick your food outside in the pans and let it cook!
Speaking of cooking, guess I'd better hunt up something to eat. Eloise was planning to bring something over, but I've got a fridge full of leftovers that just need a little session in the micro, and I'll be fine, so I told her not to bother. My SS class doesn't know about this, I purposely didn't tell them, because they'd have been lined up at the door with casseroles, and I'd rather they direct their efforts to someone who needs it. I don't - this is really no big deal.

Well, I was just bragging on the dogs and one of them bit someone today. A friend that the dogs aren't really familiar with, dropped by unannounced and let himself in the gate. When he got out of he truck, Hand bit him on the hand. He didn't break the skin, thankfully, but it left a mark and I know it hurt some. I'm not sure how to feel about it. I have not seen Hank act like that to anyone else. I guess it was that he let himself in and I wasn't out there. Part of me is happy about it because I like that he is protecting the place but part of me is afraid he might really hurt someone. Of course, a dog as big as Hank could have done some real damage if he wanted to. Maybe it was just a warning. I think I am going to have to put up a "beward of dog" sign on the gate. He never acts that way toward people he knows, just strangers. The little girls next door come over and let themselves in the gate all the time and the dogs love them. What do you all think about the situation?
Speaking of the neighbors, Sean was angry tonight because he heard the woman on the property next to us spouting obscenities again. I guess she had been drinking and really let go with some bad ones. She had to be 100 yards away and we could still hear her. It only lasted a little while but I hate for the kids to have to hear it at all. What should I do? She is the one who left her little ones alone and couldn't understand why that was a bad thing so I don't think there is any reasoning with her. I don't think calling the police would help because I have seen them there before. I was thinking of getting one of those bullhorn things and yelling over there for her to please stop the obscenities. What should I do?
Well, it's been a long day. My sister went to a meat packing plant in town today and bought 70 dollars in chicken breasts and split them between us, so I spent a good part of the day cutting it up and putting it in freezer bags for the freezer. I caught up the laundry, too. I am really trying to get everything caught up and ready to go before we start school next week. Better go get some sleep.

Ro, I'm so glad your procedure went well. I reckon I'll have to stop the rumor G-F started saying you had sustained a serious injury and had to have your arm amputated. I declare, I don't know about that fellow. :) (jk G-F)
Gosh Boo, just when you get to bragging on your dogs, Hank turns around and does that. Almost like a kid, huh? LOL I would worry about legal ramifications concerning his biting. You seem to have expressed a concern about what he is capable of doing. You know him better than anyone, so maybe you have answered your own question. I know I have a neighbor who has a real mean dog. And he has gotten loose a time or two in my backyard and gone after Barney when he's out there pooping. I get along well with the neighbor but have flat out told him if he ever attacks one of my Grandkids os animals, the dog is dead and he will hear from my Lawyer. My hope was that it might be enough for him to decide to get rid of the dog. But he hasn't. He has bitten several kids in the neighborhood, and has got a number of folks mad at him because of the dog. His poor wife wants him to get rid of him, but he won't do it. I really am afraid the final results are going to be ugly. I hope I'm wrong. And I hope your situation isn't that desperate. Good luck.
Spot, I could go for HAM and eggs. I'll let the Rev have my spam portion.
MDC, What your Dad says makes perfect sense to me. I always kinda thought it was something along those lines. When in control, you know what you are about to do with each move. But when someone else is doing the controling, your reacting all the time rather than pro-acting (if that's even a word)
Hazel, someone typed in big bold letters that they thought Texas women were tough. It was after one of Boo's posts commenting on the heat down there in Texas. I don't think it was meant as being mean, and I don't think Boo took as being mean. She was just wondering who said it because there was no name to it. I'm guessing a stranger just passing by maybe.
PH, My thinking is a Tea Party or something along those lines will form, yes. The Republican Party seems very fractured right now. And I think there are enough true blue conservatives in it to either effect change, or move on to something else. But I'm just thinking out loud, which ain't often a pretty sight. So take it for what it's worth. :)
Well I'm working indoors today, installing some new light fixtures in a parts room. Cool, inside, and no stinking wasps!
Y'all have a blessed day. And Possum, if they tell you to git, you git! You hear me? You all will be in my prayers for this weekend. I pray it weakens and/ or swerves right back out into the Atlantic to never bee seen again.
Asa
August 25, 2011 - Msg 85247:
Speaking of wasps and stinging things, ASA, I forgot to tell you about what happened to me the other day (at least I think I forgot..sorry if I'm repeating myself). The kids and I were talking about bee charmers and I told them I had never been bitten by a bee or wasp, etc. in my life and that they just don't bite me for some reason. When I go out to water the animals sometimes there are lots of yellow jackets buzzing around the water tank and they never bother me even thought they are buzzing around me. Well, soon after that I was in the house and I felt something in the back of my shirt near the collar and it was crawling! I reached back there and grabbed it with my hand and when I opened my hand, it was a bee. It just flew off...never stung me. I don't get it.? Oh well, I will still be careful, just in case.
As far as my dog Hank goes, i would probably be more concerned if we lived in a neighborhood but we are kind of in the sticks and have only one neighbor and the dogs love them. It is the first time I ever saw Hank really act that way towards anyone and it's curious. He probably perceived him as a threat because he was coming on the place alone. From what I can tell, Hank is very good with children. Also, a stray dog got on our place the other day...it was a weinie dog and Hank took out after him and nearly scared him to death but Hank didn't hurt him at all, just wanted to play with him. Eventually the dog realized it and wasn't afraid. I figure if Hank didn't fight another male dog coming into his territory that is pretty good. I am just going to keep the beware of dog sign up on the fence and tell my friends to call before coming onto the property alone. Honestly, that's the way I want it to be anyway and I like the thought of Hank being a good watchdog out here. Even with a security system, I still the that dogs are the best defense against break ins.
Yes, Hazel, Asa is right. I was just joking..trying to find out who left the comment about Texas women...Texas women are not to be messed with! ;)
Better get going with the chores.

Good morning, porch. Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. Slept well last night, left hand up on a pile of pillows. Zero pain, haven't taken so much as a Tylenol tablet. Haven't needed it. Most of the numbness is gone from my left hand now, so I can type a little better. The dressing is bulky and gets in the way when I try to use the mouse, so am mousing right-handed. Awkward for me, but I can do it.
The surgeon is a whiz-kid. I think he's about forty, but looks about 22. He does superb work. He did the same surgery on my right hand six years ago, and I would just dare you to find the scar. I know it's there, and I can't find it! More important, I've never had another twinge in that hand since he did the release. I expect no less now with the left hand. Thank God for talented people like him.
Boo, you've got me a little worried with the story of Hank's transgression. I think a "Beware" sign at the least, and you might consider even adding something like "Please don't open the gate. Honk and we will come let you in." Your friends are aware, but strangers might just open the gate and walk in. The signs will be a good deterrent. If Hank really injures someone, you can be facing a serious lawsuit, not to mention how bad you would feel about someone getting hurt. God forbid that it would be a child!
Asa, your neighbor sounds like a real sweetheart. I had a neighbor like that for a while - had two big old chow mix dogs. The male was aggressive and mean as a snake. The female was okay except when she had pups, which was every six months. Then the people were hounding everyone trying to give them a puppy. I wouldn't have taken any of the "get" from those two dogs on a big bet, and neither would anyone else. They usually ended up in the local shelter. Disgusting. I asked the man once why he didn't get the male neutered, and his response was about what I expected. "Aw, I couldn't do that to the poor guy!" As for your neighbor, all I can say is he's lucky he hasn't already been sued, and he sounds like a totally ignorant person. The dog has bitten several children, and he doesn't see that as a problem? He's lucky it wasn't one of my grandkids. He would definitely be aware of the problem by now, the dog would be humanely euthanized, and I would have money in the bank. Some people only understand pain in their wallet. Now if the kids are going into the dog's yard, that would make it a different matter.
Boo, I'm sorry Sean and Erin are having to hear the garbage spouted by your vulgar neighbor. I know it must really make you mad - I'd be livid. However, please don't engage her. I'll guarantee you, she's willing to go farther than you are. You will not win. There was a time when America was a much nicer place, and a request to her might have worked. Failing that, a report to the police would have brought out an officer to give a gentle reminder and that almost certainly would have worked. These days, anything you say to her will be thrown back at you, hard. A call to the police probably won't even bring an officer out, and if it does, they'll treat it so lightly that the woman will have no fear of retaliating against you. The one thing I might try - take a batch of cookies over there, make a little small talk, and then ask her gently if she could tone it down a little. Tell her you have two young kids, whom you are raising with Christian values, and they're not accustomed to language like that. Tell her that it makes them feel sad for her, and concerned for her, that they think she's a very unhappy person. Who knows? It might not work - or it might. It's worth a try, and you won't have done anything to threaten her and make her try to get back at you.
Well, I didn't mean to write a book. I'm just so happy to have the mobility back in my hand! Blessings, all! --Romeena

Well Ro, talking with the neighbor about it probably wouldn't help because it only happens when she is drunk. She may not even remember it by the next day and I certainly am not going to get her to stop drinking. I have been really nice to her, taken a pie over there, etc. When she isn't drinking, she is civil but you know what alcohol does to some people. I guess I will just have to live with it. The last time she went on a rant, one of the neighnors on the other side of her must have called the police because I saw them come out there, she walked up to the gate and said something nice to them and they drove away. End of story. Not much can be done, I'm afraid. At least she isn't sending her children over for me to watch without warning any longer...not since I had a talk with her that last time.
I already have a "no tresspassing" sign on the gate, and will also have a "beware of dog" sign...anyone would be nuts to come in unannounced but, as you, me and Barney know..there are nuts out there who will do anything. I'm gonna have to think on this one.
I was out back a little while ago and I actually heard thunder...a few dark clouds were drifting in the sky but they passed right by without releasing a drop. This is getting really old.

Boo....glad you guys got some much needed rain. Maybe next you'll get some cooler weather:)
Just got a neat phone call from a guy that played bass for the singer Sam Cooke. Sam Cooke had some huge hits in his very short life. We had a long conversation......really neat guy. He had heard of my music and songwriting through some folks that he ran into in a recording studio and just wanted to pick my brain (which by the way don't take a lot of picking....lol).
You all have a good night and remember to give Jesus a big spiritual hug before you go to sleep.
Love and prayers!

Hey there!
M-T, auh20, be mighty careful this weekend. Run!
Asa, I agree that with everything going on in the world makes you think. My son, husband and I were talking about that tonight at dinner. You know Barney would be worried out of his mind!
MDC, yessir you can keep 118. We were 97 and that's enough!
G-F, I don't blame you're wife nary one bit! My husband wants to go on a cruise but after I saw Titanic and all of these people getting I'll or getting lost at sea, no thank you!
Hazel, how's your husband doing?
Possum, are you through hiding? Did you like my Facebook status? Ha!
Romeena, I'm glad your surgery went well!
Tom, we need one of your poems.
Floyd, I haven't thanked you in some time for keeping the porch going.
Boo, sounds like you're finally moved in!
Spot, I enjoy a lot if the videos you post although many are before my time. Since Dixie Belle left I believe I'm the youngest porchster at 34.
Sterling, I hope things are okay with your family. I haven't time to read the archives.
I wonder how Fungirl, DES, AFD, and Goober are doing.
If anyone is in the Southeast and knows of a good reliable and reasonably priced car is please let me know. Mine was totaled and we are renting which is costly.
I suppose I'll hit the hay. Y'all take care now and remember the golden rule!
Blessings,
Lucy Matthews

Hey REV, that's really neat about Sam Cooke's bass player. Oh, and I will certainly give Jesus that spiritual hug. I have to tell you what he did for me today. This morning I was feeling kind of down..mostly just a lack of feeling and I told him, "Jesus, I really need to feel some joy today, please."...short prayer but it certainly was answered. The thrill of being in the storm we encountered today made me feel like a kid at Disney World. I am not kidding you. Seeing those huge lightening strikes come down and hit the earth out in the middle of those farm fields had me clapping my hands with joy (literally). It was wonderful because I certainly never expected a blue ribbon storm like that one nor did I expect Jesus to answer in that way but it was great. He is full of surprises!
Great to see ya on the porch young'un (Lucy). Hope you find yourself a good car soon.
May the Lord protect our friends on the East coast.

OK, OK, I'm in deep trouble, but I just thought it was so funny!

PH-Some how the inflection, in the above post, with regard to me thinking about you when I am at Tim Horton's appears really... REALLY creepy. MDC- Drat that W and his mechanical weather device.
Lucy- Irene will not be a bother to us here. The other end of the state will take a hit though.
We've been through much tougher times than these folks, come on cheer up! Just during my life time we've had the Cold-War, Soviet nuclear weapons 90 miles from FLA, gas lines, 20% interest, and Jimmy Carter (well, we still have him)to name just a few worse moments. Our grand parents and great grand parents would be laughing at our "hard times."

Thanks fir the well wishes on the car finding. Lord knows we need one pronto! We are renting for $30 a day which is taking away what we can actually pay for a car.
Y'all have a fantastic day!

August 26, 2011 - Msg 85272:
Good morning, porch! Lucy, have you considered buying some really cheap clunker, for a few hundred $, to end the $30 a day outflow? If you just kept it a couple of weeks, until you find something else, you could almost certainly sell it for at least what you paid for it. If it happens to go kaput, you haven't lost much, but chances are it would last a few weeks anyway. It might be worth a try.
Well, gotta run. Having a CT scan this morning, so need to get showered and dressed. Then this afternoon I'm going out to my son's house to keep the boys for the weekend, while he takes their mom to San Antonio for a little weekend getaway for her birthday. Wish me luck! Those two boys are good little fellers, but they're busy! Toye Starr will go along, and will have fun with Bentley. The two cats - not so much, the grouchy things.
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

auh20, I'm surprised you interpreted my previous reply as being "creepy". My intention was to make a friendly and humorous comment about things unique to Tim Horton's that only customers like you would know about (timbits and poutine).
I recall another similar misunderstanding from the past. Am I composing my postings in such a way where they can be interpreted in a way I did not intend? Peace my friend.
Lucy Matthews, I can understand why the Titanic tragedy would influence you. But is this reasoning fair?
Below are some facts that might surprised you.
According to the National Safety Council, in our lifetime, we have:
- a 1 in 1100 chance of dying from drowning
- a 1 in 83 chance of dying from a motor vehicle accident
So if drowning stops you from traveling on boats, have you also stopped traveling in motor vehicles where the odds of dying are even greater?
Regarding your transporation problem, instead of renting, it might be cheaper to consolidate your trips and use taxis until you find a car.
Or Romeena has a good idea about purchasing a cheap junker for a short time. Then after you find something better, search for local businesses who "buy junk cars". Many offer between $50 and $2000 whether they are running or not.

Auh2o..I didn't think your comment about Tim Horton's was creepy but then again, I don't know what Tim Horton's is.
Speaking of thinking about porch folks..I thought about you all yesterday! Something funny happened that i know you can appreciate. I mentioned buying a bunch of chicken and putting it in the freezer; well, this morning I asked Bruce if he liked the chicken I fixed last night and he said (seriously), "Well, I didn't want to say anthing but I thought it was really dry." Boy, did I bust out laughing! HAHA...Just like when Aunt Bee served the tough roast to Andy! It was my fault, though, because I left the chicken in the oven too long and dried it out. Such a funny Mayberry moment! :)

Boo, Tim Horton's is a fast food chain similar to Dunkin' Donuts in the USA. Although Tim Horton's got started up here in Canada, they are now expanding into the USA close to the border. The store was named after a former Canadian professional hockey player.
Also, regarding the dry chicken you served, the last time I over-baked chicken, I peeled off the hard crust, then cut up the softer parts into small pieces, and then soaked that in lemon juice. Mmmmmm mighty good!

PH-I'll have to remember that trick with the dry chicken. As for the "creepy post," I was 100% jk'ing. I meant I sounded creepy not you PH. I'm not sure I'd want another guy telling me he was thinking of me every time he had a coffee out. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Tim Horton was a great hockey player. He died in car accident in 1974. He was a member of the Buffalo Sabres when he died. I can still remember that day, very sad. I recall when he beat the snot out of Dave Schultz. Schultz was an absolute dirty player and 20 some years younger than Horton when they fought.

auh2o, sorry about me misunderstanding your posting. So you got worried when I mentioned that I think of you when I'm getting a coffee for my wife, eh? Then I guess I should not tell you about the frequent dreams I've been having about you ;) ... LOL
I knew nothing about who the Tim Horton namesake was even after I started patronizing the store. Then one day here in Canada, I was flipping through the cable channels and saw a 1963 classic hockey game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was around the time when the Toronto Maple Leafs was winning the Stanley Cup three years in a row (1962, 1963 and 1964).
When I saw a Tim Horton in uniform with the Maple Leafs team, I researched him on the internet. That is when I discovered that he was the co-founder of the Tim Horton's chain.
I just realized that I have posted more in the last two days than I have done in the past year!

auh2o, I just thought of something I've been meaning to ask you. Yesterday, my wife and I drove across the border into your part of the USA to do some grocery shopping. We visited Tops and Wegmans. Do you have any grocery shopping recommendations to offer us for the stores in your area?
Goober-Fife, I've been posting on The Front Porch sporadically since about 1997. I was born and raised in the USA. During my early posting years here, I lived in the midwest near Chicago. Not too long ago, I married a Canadian. So I now spend most of my time in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) of southern Ontario.
I'm glad to make your acquaintance. Sorry I missed your roll call.

Orange Crush and peanuts...that's the way to go.
Auh2o, would you and PH stop talking about thinking and dreaming about one another, please?! It's making me feel kinda creepy. ;)
What are these boiled peanuts you speak of? We don't have them thangs down here in Texas. We only eat our peanuts out of the shell, in a jar or smashed into peanut butter.
Bruce seems to think our little Elvis goat may have already impregnated our Raspberry goat. He says she looks fuller but I think she is eating too much or could have a touch of the bloat. Hope she is "on the nest," though. Would be fun to have some babies in a few months.
Guess what?? We finally got the well dug and working so we will be planting a fall garden this coming week. It will be warm enough here for growing for the next several months. Can't wait!!
Well, ok, I am gonna come right out and say this in a friendly, kinda hoping you'll understand way (as Andy said to Barney)...I think things have been a little boring here on the porch lately. Since we stopped getting into any moulages about politics and such, we seemed to keep things on such a superficial level that they are getting sort of dull. So..I am trying to think up some interesting topics for discussion but am having a hard time thinking of anything we have not already beat to death. Anyone else have any ideas? We already shared childhood memories of summer. Most of us already know so much about each other that the stories have already been told. Of course, we are all getting older and less likely to remember. ;)
Better go get a shower and get ready for bed.

Boo..& rest of the Porchsters..What I found refreshing about the Porch is how diverse we all are, the way we speak, foods we eat, customs, ect. As I stated in my earlier post we are a diverse group. I find it interesting like, why in parts of the South they like boiled peanuts? And other parts they don't know about things like that. I find it fun on how we "splain" things to each other as to why that is. We use words and sayings that only A/G fans would understand. To add how we look out for each other! THAT is what make this site so special. There are many other sites that you could post your gripes, opinions, views, ect. But here, we still "Act like somebody"! In this day and age is very comforting place to be. We have Mayberry "values"
like the things Rodney Dillard speaks about....

It's supposed to be over 100 here this weekend. That kind of puts a kink in my weekend fun. I have already started thinking about fall and thanksgiving. I am really going to attempt to enjoy the holidays without working myself to death this year. I will only host one party during the holidays. Of course, this is kind of the meeting place for family gathering because it is big enough for everyone and the kids have alot to do out here. I won't obsess over everything being spotless, though, and I will share the cooking duties. Sure hope it's a cold Thanksgiving so I can light the fireplace this year. Last Thanksgiving, it was hot until late Thanksgiving night when a cold front blew in.
Well, enough "rambling"...better finish my coffee and get something done.
