I agree with Boo, I hope everyone checks in today and is spared from the hammering they are getting from these storms!

Asa - Happy NFL Draft Day! LOL! The Chiefs are sitting at #21 and I imagine will stay there. I believe your Raiders are in the teens somewhere? I dont have the order with me. With the Judge denying the NFL's request of a stay on the lockout, all business is open and there could be a very wild night at the draft! Free agency and trades are back in play!
Maude - Sounds like a good lunch today. I will try and get back for it!
Not much on my end. Got all the mowing done and ready to hunker down with the NFL tonight. Better get to work on some history! Y'all have a great day!

Good morning, porch! So terrible about all those storms, and so many killed and injured. Then there's the property damage, which can be devastating. Keep praying for all those involved, and for no more destruction to occur.
Such great news about Papa REV. God has definitely blessed him. I have a prayer of thanks for Eloise as well. She's going home today! I spent yesterday at her house with Maria and Erica (my friends who help me clean this house every now and then), and we got things in pretty good shape. Eloise's husband, Jerry, is a great guy and has a heart as big as Texas, but a housekeeper he's not! That man is messy!! Also, he saves everything, won't throw anything away. Drives Eloise to distraction sometimes, but he has so many other wonderful qualities that she just puts up with it. He'd give you the shirt off his back if you asked, but you probably wouldn't ask, because his shirt is almost always a grease-stained, holey t-shirt. But - how did it get grease-stained and holey? He was wearing it while WORKING! That man works from can to can't, every day but Sunday.
Boo, your little royal wedding name game sounds like fun. I figured out that my name could be Lady Winifred Tinker of Lockhill. Or I could be Lady Lula Maude Buckwheat of Linares. Funny!
Well, gotta run. Many errands to do, appointment with the chiro at 2, then going by Eloise's on the way home to see how she's settling in. Jerry is taking her home this morning - just waiting for the discharge papers now. I'm going to stay out of their way and just let them go home without any outside "help" and see how they do. I know, for myself, Dale is all I would have needed. I think Eloise will get more of a sense of recovery if it's just the two of them, with nobody else in the way. She knows how to reach me if she needs me.
Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Good Morning, Everyone!
I send my prayers and concerns to my fellow Porchsters as well. I saw the devastation in Alabama via the NFL Draft. They had players there from the U of Ala. and they had a moment of silence for the victims. They also showed some of the twisters that tore thru the area! My heart goes out to them!
Ro - Good to hear that Eloise is back at home. Nothing like getting home from the hospital and feeling the comfort of home. I had some bad kidney stones before that kept me laid up and I couldnt get in the car fast enough to get back to my bed and chair and tv and the like! I am happy she's back where she belongs!
Asa - The NFL Draft was in primetime last year too. They started doing that to attract viewers better. I guess they figured they would grab the "at home" crowd on the weekdays.
Later today, around noon, I will be lauching the blog/website for my Quantrill project in Arkansas. I will be back to give you the link! I hope you'll enjoy it and vote on the quiz!

Good morning, porch. Beautiful day here, it's so hard to believe that some of our porch has been practically blown off the map by the storms. Praying for Floyd and family! My goodness, he should have some stories to tell on the cruise in November. I'm so happy to hear that they are safe, and I hope the hotel stay is just due to a power outage, not to damage. I wonder if a generator would be at all useful to him. They can be had for a few hundred, vs hotel bills. I know Jerry has one, and when he and Eloise experience a power outage, he cranks up that generator and it's enough to power the freezer and fridge and a couple of lamps. They got through a two-day outage that way one time. Guess no one would want to live that way for weeks, though, and it wouldn't run the a/c - OK, bad idea.
Joe and Jorge will be here this morning, we're having a "yard day". Pruning, weeding, and planting color. Oh, I see Jorge is already here. The big limb that was down in the back yard is gone, and I don't think a squirrel hauled it to the street, so it must be Jorge. He always gets here early, and just finds things to do. That's not hard around here!
I bought some new fish yesterday, haven't been out to check on them, I hope they're okay. I didn't get to float the bags as long as I like to, had to get to the chiro appointment, but I imagine they're okay. Guess I'll soon find out.

Hey, Boo. I'm here. Got to work last night after working in the yard all day, and learned that we were short one nurse, due to a call-in earlier in the day. They had tried all day to get someone to come in, but no one would. I don't blame them. We didn't create this crisis, and I really don't feel it's up to the pitiful remnant of the staff to try to be all things to all people. I'm ready to see the one whose idea this was, in a uniform and taking patients. That, of course, will happen when donkeys fly. Meantime, we'll just keep shoveling the load of guilt back at them when things like this happen. They've already called this afternoon, trying to find someone to come in and fill staffing holes tonight. The phone woke me, but I didn't pick up. I'd like to be able to do it, to support my immediate manager, because she hates this as much as we do, and didn't want it, but my loyalty has buckled under the weight of the load of abuse they're dishing out. My co-worker and I each had four moms and four babies last night, and still they were trying to unload a gyn surgery on us. We have been told that four couplets is the absolute limit, that we will never be asked to take more, and yet - they asked. Our charge nurse flatly said no, the patient would have to go elsewhere. She will probably be counseled now for refusing to accept a patient! No wonder half our staff has quit.
OK, enough griping. Just had to unload somewhere. Sorry! I think I'll just sit here at this window and look out at the riot of color and lush growth, and watch the antics of the wildlife, until all that garbage at work just fades from my mind. I'm scheduled to work again on Monday night, and I'll be there, and will do my best, but until then, I'm free as a bird, and I will make it to preachin' in the morning. Couldn't do that if I worked tonight.
Haven't explored the site yet, John Masters, but that's on my agenda when I'm a little more alert. Sleeping in my chair wasn't very restful, but I just conked out sitting right there after eating a bowl of cereal. I think I'll go lie down for a while now. I got some sleep while sitting there, but now my body feels like I've been "whupped with a big stick."
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Don't dare answer that phone, Ro! You are the last one that they should call to come in. What a mess and I feel a knot in my stomach just thinking about it because I have experienced it. I wish you could find a dream job somewhere. Glad you could unload here because I certainly can sympathize. I certainly am concerned about you working the way you are having to, even if it is part-time. I know you will take care of yourself but it makes me mad that you are having to deal with that cr@p (for lack of a better word)!
Been a busy but fun weekend. I will tell ya'll about it later but got to get ready for preachin' and a church lunch and business meeting afterward. We are going to try to vote in some more deacons.

May 01, 2011 - Msg 83733:
Yep, those dangly earrings do help. Thanks, Boo. You're sweet to be concerned, but I'm okay. I've finally learned that I can say no, and not feel guilty. In years past, when help was needed, I just couldn't refuse, because I felt we were all in it together. Now I no longer feel that way. They have forced a situation on us that we didn't want, told them we didn't, many nurses told them they would quit, and still they did it. Now when the nurses did what they said they'd do, and left, upper management is stuck and trying to force those of us who remained to carry the load. Well, I just won't. They created the problem, they can deal with it. So there!
I never cease to be amazed at the things I notice on TAGS. I've been watching it since the original run, and have probably seen every episode at least a hundred times. I know the scripts almost word for word, and yet, I still hear or see something like it was the first time. Case in point - I was watching the ep where Barney finds the briefcase full of money, the loot from a bank robbery. As things develop, Barney ends up in his rented room, with the bank robber, who is posing as an FBI man. The man asks Barney if he has anything to drink. Barney replies, "Yes, I've got some milk, NON-FAT." I had never noticed the "non-fat" part before. I didn't realize anybody was paying attention to fat vs non-fat back in the sixties, but apparently somebody was. I surely wasn't, and still don't, to be truthful. Which leads me to another question - what on earth is "fat-free sour cream"? That's simply not possible. If it's fat-free, it's not cream, sour or not. It's thickened with that carrageenan stuff or something, has no taste, and no telling what all that artificial stuff does to you, compared to good old honest made-by-the-cow cream. Wikipedia says "Fat-free 'sour cream' contains no cream at all, and is made primarily from non-fat milk, modified cornstarch, thickeners and flavoring agents." Yuck. OK, that's my opinion, and that's all it is.
Well, back to TAGS. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

If I consume any of it whatsoever I get a killer headache that lays me right out. Because of that I have had to become a real nutrient label reader. It was kinda funny because we took a bunch with our digital camera but she of course kept deleting and re-taking them until she was pleased with them. Good morning, porch! There apparently is reason to rejoice this morning, certainly we could be forgiven for doing so, but like Asa, I'm hesitant. I'm glad Osama can no longer orchestrate more destruction and death, but I cannot celebrate the fact that a soul has passed into eternity, still steeped in hatred and evil intent, still lost and without the love of the true God in his heart. Can you imagine his shock and terror when he stepped into eternity and faced the Lord God Almighty? May God have mercy on his soul.
Well, Joe and Jorge were to come today to finish up some work in the yard. I just talked to Joe, and to my relief and delight, they're not planning to come. It's 46 degrees out there, dark, raining and miserable. With a grateful heart, I'm going to go crawl back into my warm bed and get a couple of hours more sleep. Then I'll get up and work here in the house for a while, followed by another nap, and then I have to work tonight. I really wasn't looking forward to working tonight after working all day in the yard. God is good! Oh, and my pansies are ever so grateful. They're still going strong, thanks to consistent watering, and now this little cool spell will rejuvenate them for sure. I've lost a couple of plants, that's all. Usually, by this time they've fainted and fallen flat. We just pull them up and replace them with petunias and such. However, this year we pulled out a few that were starting to go, weeded very carefully, and set petunias in amongst the pansies, to make the transition gradually. Sure does look pretty!
Hmmm. I notice the landscape lights are out, and the pond pumps are not running. This means that something has gotten wet and tripped the GFCI breaker on that circuit. I wonder what it is? I'm not going out to try to figure it out, though. The pond will survive without the pumps on a day like this, and I don't need the landscape lights burning all day anyway, which they would have since it's so dark. Guess this will be a job for my friend Ted when the weather settles.
Have a great day, friends. Blessings! --Romeena

The one I'm referring to now though, is the one where Barney is interviewing candidates for deputy, and he throws a tomato at Otis, which Otis fails to catch, and the tomato hits him in the chest. The tomato splotch travels around on Otis' shirt, from down on his belly, to all the way up on his chest, nearly to his neck, then back down low again. Obviously the scenes weren't shot in sequence, probably not even all on the same day. Interesting! --Romeena

I feel like you do about the Osama situation, Ro. I once heard the testimony of a non-believer who died and was brought back to life. He talked about the darkness that came for him....said that he felt the eternal separation from God and that he would not wish anyone who has ever been born to experience it. God doesn't want that, either, but men choose darkness because of their evil deeds, God gives them the choice and they reap the consequences of that choice. The bible tells us that God takes to pleasure in the death of the wicked and wishes that all would come to repentance.

Good afternoon, everyone. I think we probably all feel about the same way regarding the bin Laden thing. I don't mean to come off as sanctimonious when I voice sadness at the passing of a lost soul. I would say that, whether it was bin Laden or a neighbor. I guess I say it partly because I've been taught that we're supposed to feel that way! The truth is, the overwhelming emotion in my heart when I heard the news was relief, a sense of victory, a feeling of "he finally got what was coming to him" and all the other very human and justifiable emotions that I know we're all feeling. The fact is, he was an educated man, he had exposure to the truth, and he chose not to investigate or pursue it, but instead followed a path of mayhem and misery. He was evil through and through. He wasn't just out to kill non-Muslims, because many Muslims were among the dead in the tower attacks. He was a man with a murderous heart, and he hid behind the teachings of Mohammed to justify his deeds. I have Muslim friends, devout in their faith, and I do not believe that they wish me dead, any more than I would wish harm upon them. Islam is a misguided religion, and totally misses the point, but for the most part, the followers know only what they've been taught. That's why we are to be messengers and offer them the true Gospel. However, just being a Muslim, at least for the masses, doesn't automatically translate to being a murderer. There are those who would argue that point with me, I know, because mainstream Islamic teachings include "kill the infidel", but not all Muslims take it seriously. I guess it's a bit like it is in Christianity. We're given direct commands from God, as well, but we don't all follow through. Read Matt. 28:19-20. Well, be all that as it may - Osama bin Laden is dead, and I, for one, am relieved and very grateful to those intrepid Navy Seals who got the job done. Gosh, all that, and they're good swimmers too! (heehee)
Well, got to get ready for work. Sure would enjoy staying home, but it's not to be. However, once I get through the next twelve hours, I'm free of that place until next Sunday night. Yay!
Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Hello porch family.....got in this morning around 3:00am. Had some great services....praise the Lord.
As for Osama bin Laden....my thoughts...I can never rejoice of anyone going to h-ll because I know it hurts our Lord to see any of His creation going into eternal h-ll, but God gives us a choice and he choose to be against God. When we make that choice we will pay. It's our decision. With that being said...Do I wish he would have changed his life and turned to God?...YES. But he didn't and was totally against God so I'm thankful that he and his evil life has been removed. The world is certainly better off without him on it.
As a Navy vet....proud of those Navy SEALS. I say this in a picking way...but I sent a couple Marine vet friends an email today and told them that they have been giving the Marines the chance to get the job done but since they couldn't do it they sent the Navy SEALS in....lol So if you don't hear from me for awhile, you'll know the Marines invaded my home...hehe.
Love and prayers for all my porch family. And for all those serving our country.

I guess the way I see it is that I believe there is a time to kill. Sometimes it is right to rejoice in the "removing" of evil from this world, when the evil can and has caused such hurt. I can rejoice in that. Where I have to stop rejoicing, though, is when I think that a human soul (however evil) is spending eternity in h*ll. Interestingly, I have been studying from Colossians and Romans about how before we came to Christ we were all "enemies" of God, but we were brought near through the blood of Christ. Now, we sometimes automatically think that God hates his enemies, but God is always standing and pleading for his enemies to come and repent, and to join Him in His kingdom. That is why He is such a good and merciful king...he is not out to condemn the world, but he sent his son so that the world might be saved. Anyone who will come, can be saved...anyone. I think of the darkness of my own heart before I was born again and I am so thankful for his grace and willingness to save me. I think about Paul the Apostle when he called himself, "the chiefest of sinners". He was a murderer of his own Jewish brothers and sisters who believed. The truth is that all of us, from Osama to Mother Theresa need a savior...but not all will accept him.

Mavis shared this quote on facebook this evening and I wanted to share it with you all:
"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."~Rev Martin Luther King, Jr.

Morning Porchters. Hope the new day finds you all happy and well.
Rev, is your Dad still doing ok? I guess he must be or you would have told us.
Possum, glad Laci's Mom is on the mend. Don't go throwing your back out tending after her. You know how you always throw your back out! :)
Nice sentiments Boo. I was a bit dismayed yesterday morning as I watched the news and all the coverage of the large throngs of people gathering and cheering. I know the damage and death and suffering this man brought to the world, and I know he will now answer to God for his life. And I have every reason to think our world will be a better place without him in it. But what a waste of a life. With all the resources he had at his disposal, the good he could have done, the suffering he could have helped to ease, the hungry he could have fed. And what did he do? Just the opposite. He added to all the woes that so mant deal with. So very sad. What is even sadder is to know that there are most likely thousands just like him, waiting to take his place. Well enough of that.
Boo, that's a good catch on the episode you mentioned. I enjoy watching for little production mistakes in the show. I'm not sure why I like it so much. I'm not trying to pick at it. It's just fun to me for some odd reason. Watch the episode where Andy and Barney have the four moonshiners locked up and think they have shut down moonshining in Mayberry, when in walks Otis into the Courthouse with a snootfull. If you watch as the 4 locke up prisoners are grabbing Otis through the bars on the jail doors, you'll see the supposedly brick walls moving around quite a bit. Pretty funny when you see it.
OK, Here's a trivia question. We all know there were two doors that lead into the Courthouse from the street I believe there is only one episode in which both Courthouse doors are opened. What episode?

Rev-Well said, I couldn't agree more. Just think of all the people OBL prevented from ever turning to our Lord. The world is a better place today.
George H W Bush had a hard time expressing credit due himself. He seldom used the first person I. It is nice to know that B.O. doesn't suffer from the same affliction. After hearing his press conference you would have guessed he lead the assault.
John Masters-I really enjoyed your website and already have it bookmarked. Nice job.

Interestingly, Adam in NC, there is also the "Call the Man" episode about the old freezer that shows the back as having a big porch, but it's missing in the McBeevee episode.
Nice morning her in south texas. I would love to crawl back in bed and sleep for awhile longer but have to get Erin to school. It was one of those crazy night where I kept kind of half-waking up with a full bladder but never got awake enough to go until 4:40am and when I finally went to the bathroom, I couldn't go back to sleep, darn it. Guess I had better start being more careful about how much water I drink before going to bed.
Better go "crack the whip" and get Erin moving in the direction of the car. I think we all got a case of spring fever around here and want to just laze around. Yesterday we had such lovely weather! I had all the windows open all day...which is kind of unusual for south texas this time of year. It is usually very humid and warmer by now. Last evening Sean and I planted some pink geranuims in a big yellow pot on the back porch and planted and staked two nice tomato plants that one of Sean's friends gave us. He works at a greenhouse and you would be surprised how many plants just get thrown away each month. He takes them home and gives them to friends and such. He gave me four pots of pink geraniums. They are needing a little TLC but look pretty good.
Better git!

Good morning, Porchster family!
I have finally hit a slow spot and thought I would cozy up here on the porch for a spell.
REV - Glad to hear your dad is feeling better!
I have my opinion of the celebrations of the death of Obama, but I tick a lock as well.
I see you all have been discussing discrepancies and flubs in TAGS. I have spotted some through time as well. You cant miss Otis' shirt when Barney throws the tomato at him. I have also mentioned before the many times you see the camera shadow on Andy or Barney. There was one time, in particular, that Andy was seated at the desk and they did a closeup of him. You saw the entire camera structure crawl right up his chest and head when they moved in! In was SO obvious!
Here's something I dont think we have played before....can we name the multiple characters played by the same person?? Allen Melvin is a given. But like the one actor who was the pickpocket AND Otis' lawyer, Neil Bentley!
NEXT
Ok, folks...better get a little done. Y'all have a bright Tuesday and I will see ya later! I hope to make it back for lunch! Hey to auh2o, MDC, SPOT, Maude, Lucy, Adam, Boo, Asa, Romeena and the whole Hee Haw gang! LOL!

MDC I been a thinking about your question. Was it perhaps the episode with the beauty pagent? Seems like I remember a scene with Andy and Ellie talking outside by the door. But it might have been a different door.
John, that's a good topic, same actors who played different characters. The lady who played Big Maude Tyler also played Barneys voice coach, Elinora Poultice I believe was her name.
There are a bunch of others.

I have had a good day today. I saw a guy on tv early this morning talking about the differences between Mary and Martha in the bible...Martha being the busy one was so task-oriented, and Mary being the one who knew what was really important, so I decided to take a day of mostly rest today.
