Boo, I love paints! beautiful horses. I have been watching some old westerns on RTV and it hit me how a man loved his horse as we love our cars today. That love of such a wonderful animal, that special bond, is almost lost today. We still have plenty of horses and horseback riding stables around here, but I feel sorry for those who do not. A horse used to be ones only means of transportation. You'd wash it, feed it the best food(fuel), etc, and deal with it's "pollution." (: Our "inanimate objects" of today just dont measure up.
ASA- we are just starting to get into our 110s now. However, right now there are 3 fires burning near Flagstaff. Much good timber going up because of inept campers!. Please pray for rain!
Oh boo, our cat rubs herself all over my wife's leather sandals. It's something about smelling "there own" in leather products i think.

June 24, 2010 - Msg 79676: Osgood Schlatter disease...funny sounding name but not so funny if you have it, I guess. I need to look it up and see what it is, HM.

Thanks for the help with my equine terminology, Ro. You all must think I am really stupid sometimes. I am trying to learn as I go. Even though I grew up in a small town, I was never really a country girl. The horse and her colt are beatiful but I wish there were closer. There are still about 75 or so yards from our back porch so I can't always see them too well.

You make a good point about the horses, MDC. I remember reading the Little House books about the Ingall's family having two big horses name Pit and Pat, I think and they pulled the wagon and the plow. When times were so desperate that they had to sell them in order to buy food, they were devastated. Seems like I remember that they ended up getting them back, though.

Have a great time on your camping trip, SPOT. You shouldn't have to rough it too much in that nice camper. Catch a big fish for me!

Well, got the kids back from camp and Erin was tired and smelly. Its great to have her back, though. I just made her take a long soak in a bubble bath to try and remedy the kid smell!

My SIL is doing much, much better today. Again, thank you for your prayers for her. Bruce and I are praying about what steps to take to ensure that she gets help and is cared for and I would appreciate your prayers for guidance.

It was HOT here today without the usual breeze off the water. We did get some rain, though. Hope the rest of you are staying cool.

June 25, 2010 - Msg 79677: Good evening, porch. Today has been a "blurry" day for me. It's always like that after a night shift, when I try to make it through the day without actually going to bed. I spend a lot of time dozing in my chair, or at this keyboard, not really resting, but not accomplishing anything either. I'm about to head for the ironing board and get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow will be much better.

Boo, no one thinks you're stupid! If you didn't grow up around horses, or at least with an interest in them, you would have no reason to know those terms. I've always loved them, have ridden most of my life, owned a horse for several years, and still find them to be the most beautiful and noble of God's creatures. Now ask me about homemaker's goats, and all you'll hear is a lot of stammering. I know a baby goat is a kid, there are billies and nannies, and that's about it.

So Erin was smelly when she got home? Yep, I know that smell. Kids that age always smell like a rusty tin can, according to my father. Girls, anyway. Boys smell like a rusty tin can full of fishing worms, he said. I think he was right. How do they get from smelling so sweet as babies (remember that baby scent?) to smelling like bait as older kids?

Osgood-Schlatter disease - I Googled it and found a lot of information. Sounds like it's painful, annoying, and very inconvenient, but not permanent or life-threatening. I'm sorry he's having to put up with it, hm, but he'll handle it. Kids usually do.

Well, I think Toye Starr and I will turn in. I'm about done in. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

114, MDC?...when'd you move to Death Valley?

Hey SPOT. Hope you have the best time ever and prayers for a safe trip. Bruce and I were just disgussing buying a camper. I wouldn't be able to afford one brand new but there are people selling used ones all the time around here that are still in good condition. We were thinking it might be good not only for little trips but to keep on the place for situations like we are in now. We could hook it up to water and electric and Vicki could use it for awhile until she was able to get a place on her own. She is ok being here but needs some privacy, too. Anyway, its a thought. Of course, I would like to put that money into finishing the upstairs space.

"jk" is text-speak for "just kidding", MDC. I don't text, but that would be my guess.

A camper, which could double as guest quarters? That sounds like a good idea, Boo, assuming of course that there's some sort of a/c in it. If not, it would be like sleeping in an oven. Actually, I saw a little free-standing a/c unit in Best Buy, and it was kicking out some seriously cool air. I didn't investigate it, but it was just sitting on a stand, doing its chilly little thing, wasn't vented outside or anything. Seems like it was under $200. I don't imagine it would cool a very large space, but a camper? Might work very well.

Spot, while you're off camping, please talk with Miss Sherry and consider going on the Mayberry Cruise in October. You can't beat the price, and it's really a lot of fun. There's still time to sign up. I just think it would be so much fun if you and Miss Sherry were there. Eloise and I are going for the third trip, so that should speak for itself. We wouldn't be going back if we didn't have a good time.

Well, guess I'd better get moving around here. Things to do, errands to run, etc. Have a great day, friends. Blessings! --Romeena

June 25, 2010 - Msg 79684: Right, "jk" means "just kidding" or "joke".

Yes Ro, anything we would purchase would have A/C. All of them I have ever seen down here has it. It would be like slowly baking in an oven without it, wouldn't it?

Been ready to tear my hair out dealing with mom's dr's office and mail order mail company. She is running out of Coumadin, the script wasn't received and now it is like an act of congress to get it done. I have been on the phone all morning. They finally phoned in a 30 day supply to a local pharmacy to tide her over but who knows if she will get more later from the mail order pharmacy. Coumadin is nothing to play around with. Frustrating and tomorrow my SIL depression med runs out so we are having to buy that. It is 275 dollars for a thirty day supply but without it, she can't function. She has been to churches, salvation army, Lilly Care (to help people get their meds), you name it and no luck. Lot of churches and such won't pay for depression meds, only things like heart and blood pressure meds. Once she gets establised with HMHR, she will ok but for now, its coming out of her pocket and ours. Can you believe the price of that stuff?! Wow.

Ro, I am surprised that you haven't weighed in on this situation...I kind of sense you biting your tongue to keep from telling me I already have too much on my plate to deal with someone else with problems, am I right? :-)

Better get going..

Sorry, 79687 is a bit much. Can't figure it out.

I'm disgusted! Eloise and I met Brittney and the boys at Red Lobster over in the mid-cities for lunch, and on the way home it started raining. Rained buckets. Still pouring at Eloise's house. BOO: Prayers for your sister-in-law, and for your strength through the situation. My only thought is not too expect too much when it comes your SIL doing the right thing with respect to her meds. Unlike someone with, say, a heart problem who won't take their medication, dealing with a mentally ill person is totally different. Unfortunately, many times they don't have the reasoning power to know the right thing, much less do it. Stubborness and toxic is different than unable to truly comprehend. Frustrating. Anyway, you have my prayers (always).

Well, off to bed. Hot here.

June 26, 2010 - Msg 79694: MDC, as Methodist, Episcopal, Pentecostal Baptist...I think I understand...teehee. You and Romeena just warm my heart with your caring and concern. I am doing well and have taking care of myself and getting the needed rest, etc. Actually SIL is being a help around here now that she is in her right mind. She has been helping with the cooking, cleaning, laundry and helped me with the grocery shopping today. She is concerned about being a burden so she is trying to do as much as she can. She was also able to pay for most of her medicine today due to a friend who had given her some money to help out. Thanks PH, for giving those links...I will check them out. You are always such a kind and helpful member of the porch.

Thank you, Me-They, I appreciate your opinion and particularly your prayers. :-) While I am the type that might be taken advatage of at times, my husband isn't and he will be pretty tough on her. He has taken over control of her meds and will hand them out to her. There are no more sleeping pills or sedatives in the house. He has lined out some pretty strict rules if she chooses to stay and if she chooses not to, or decides that she can't live up to those rules and leaves, the door will be closed. She knows this is her final chance with us and she is trying hard not to burn that bridge. will she burn it? Fairly likely. Will she get another chance with Bruce? No way. She will be required to attend all counseling sessions and appointments, she can't leave town for at least 6 months, depending on how she is doing. She will also have to contribute to the family by helping out around here and will be required to attend church each week. We hold all the meds and give them out as ordered. After she sees a dr, Bruce will decide how long she will be allowed to stay with us until she has to be on her own. She will have to stay on course and he will make sure of it, or else she will have to leave. She can't go back to her mom's because that is no longer an option so we will see. Bruce told her to think it over really well before she decides because if she stays, she will be receiving some real "tough love". Enough of that for now.

Think I will go watch TV for a bit with Sean and then hit the hay.

June 26, 2010 - Msg 79695: Good evening, porch. PH, thanks for that Mayberry link. Really interesting read. I bookmarked the site for future reference, or to share with someone else. You're as handy as the pocket on a shirt, my friend. Thanks again.

Boo, it sounds to me like you and Bruce make a very good team, and are just what your SIL needs. You balance each other well. You're tender-hearted and compassionate, and that's wonderful, but someone with SIL's illness can be crafty and manipulative, and can exploit that side of your nature. Bruce will see it coming and "nip it in the bud!" It looks like he has realized that sometimes you just can't help someone, unless they will allow it, and cooperate with you. She needs the security you have offered her, but she also needs the structure and discipline that Bruce is imposing. Good combination!

Well, I think I'll mosey on to the ironing board. It's late, and I'm tired. And disappointed. Never did get any of that rain!

Blessings. --Romeena

June 26, 2010 - Msg 79696: Thanks, Ro. I hope she will follow through, but if she chooses otherwise, I will use the money on finishing the attic space upstairs so I won't be too upset about it...hope that doesn't sound too cold...hehe.

I slept better last night than I have in months for some reason. I went to bed just after 12 and didn't wake up until 7am. That just never happens to me. I always wake up several times in a night. Wish I could figure out what the secret is and why I did last night.

Been doing chores and feeling pretty good.

Was watching some of the season 7 eps on TVLand last night and actually am starting to enjoy them some. I guess they have some of their own merits. I kind of like the ep with the professor who falls for Aunt Bee because she looks like his departed wife. That would be an uncomfortable situation to be in. I also saw something in that ep that Helen did that I actually liked. It was when they were in auditorium listening to the professor talk about his journeys and Helen says something about Clara taking quiet a liking to the professor and Andy says something like, "Well, he has everything Clara wants in a man...he's single". Helen socks playfully socks Andy in the arm and I like the expression she has on her face. Anyone remember that scene?

Well, better get up and do something else. Be back later..

June 27, 2010 - Msg 79704: Thanks Possum, while hurricanes are never a good thing, this would really be a bad year to have one come in here!

Been a restful day...went to preachin' and out for lunch, then came home and took a little nap, watched part of a movie and then loaded up the kids and SIL and drove to the beach at sunset. It was very nice with a warm breeze that just made you feel like stretching out in a hammock and taking a nap..."Wanna buy a ship in a bottle"....(haven't used that quote in awhile).

Something interesting that happened this afternoon...the little old lady that lives across the street from our place has been growing a garden forever and she always brings us a little of her produce (very sweet of her). We invited her in to sit at the table and have some of the monkey bread that Erin and I made. I think I had mentioned her before about how we had been discussing why there were so many buzzards hanging around her place and mine. It was getting to be really curious because you just couldn't look up without seeing them flying overhead, especially over her place. Well, today I mentioned that I have noticed that recently the buzzards had gone away. She kind of grinned (her toothless grin) and said she could tell me what happened to them. I wasn't sure I wanted to know because I was afraid she was going to say she shot the whole lot of them or something, but she told me that the birds were really getting bad and that whenever she went outside to tend the garden, there would be about a dozen of them, lined up staring at her...really gave her the creeps so she prayed for God to move them on and they just left. Isn't that neat? There is really no other explaination that I can think of but that God answered her prayers. There were so many of them around all the time and now they are gone. I'm glad she prayed!!

Well, think i will go hang out with the kids for a bit, maybe play a game and then off to bed. Goodnight Mayberry.

Church this morning, out to lunch with friends, then home for a little nap. Then I went and picked up Eloise and we went to Landry's baseball game. Landry is our nine-year-old grandson, David and Brittney's oldest boy. He's getting to be a good little ball player! Afterward, we all went to Fresco's for some really good Mexican food, then to Dave and Brittney's house to get Landry's clothes, as he's going to spend a couple of days with Eloise. Came home, read the paper, and now here I am, in the wee hours, not sleepy at all! That's okay though. I'll just sleep very late in the morning, since I have to work tomorrow night. It was very pleasant at the ball field. The temp was 100, but we were in the shade, in comfortable chairs, breeze blowing and it really was very nice.

Well, guess I'll go watch a little TV and try to get sleepy. It's almost 2:30 a.m., so I really should go to bed, I guess. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

June 28, 2010 - Msg 79709: Morning Dears.
Boy Romeena, you sure keep some late hours. I guess the working hours you do requires it. Are you still looking to switch jobs?

113 MDC? Dang buddy, I like the heat but that's too much even for me I think. We will be flirting with 100 this week for the first time this summer. I really hate any yemp extremes because part of my job is overseeing HVAC systems in all of our buildings at work. And when it gets reaaly hot or really cold folks just get onery and whiney. The 72 degrees comming into their office isn't cool enough in the summer, yet that same 72 degrees isn't warm enough in the winter. ARGHHH! In the mean time I'm on rooftop of a building with the hot sun beating down on me trying to see if there really is a problem. And the cold..... nothing seems to make equipment go awry faster than bitter cold. So, therfore, as Lydia hates chit chat, I hate temp. extremes. I don't mind regular temps, but I hate extremes. :)

With that being said, I am really grateful for a job right now. Our company had some lay-offs last mont.... the first in it's history. And if things don't improve soon, they say there will be more. Well I don't see things improving. In fact I think we are going the wrong way, and from what I see all the proposed fixes are making things worse. I don't see an easy way out of this mess we are in. I hope and pray things pick up soon, but my question to you is this. When does a recession become a depression, and have we crossed that threshold yet?
Any thoughts?

Asa

June 28, 2010 - Msg 79710: Boy, I don't blame you, Lydia...I mean ASA. People are so hard to please, aren't they? We may get hot here in texas but at least we don't have to deal with the bitter cold, at least not down here on the coast. Concerning recession/depression, I can't really weigh in, all I know is nearly everything I buy is about double what it was 3 years ago and lots of folks are unemployed. To tell you the truth, down here where I live, you really don't see as many lay-offs as in other parts of the country (yet). My relatives in the Detroit area see alot of unemployed and desperate folks up there. Of course, that could be because so many are already unemployed and on gov. as&istance (or illegal!). I am praying for you, that you will keep your job.

Good for you, MDC! I watched a little too much of it yesterday because I was just kind of lazing around on a sabbath. I watched most of a Julia Roberts movie and the last half of "Million Dollar Baby" on AMC. How horribly depressing! I had never seen it and only caught it halfway through. Someone had told me to go see it when it came out but after hearing about how sad it was, I decided not to. It was very sad and it really brought up some moral questions about the right to die. This young woman was paralyzed and could only speak and wanted to be allowed to die. As a Christian AND a nurse, sometimes I am conflicted about the issue. If someone is being kept alive by artificial means, should they have the choice about being kept alive by a respirator? Probably not the right conversation for the porch...sorry.

Sounds like you had a very nice day, Romeena. Hope you were finally able to get some sleep.

Better get moving. I have to go get my routine blood drawn and run a few errands.

Hey to M-T , PH and all!

June 28, 2010 - Msg 79714: Well, looks like we are going to have to do some tornado watching over the next few days, darn it. Ran into some pretty heavy rains already today.

Hey, MDC, bible study at the rehab tonight...remember us in your prayers. We have some real skeptical new girls right now and I am taking in some of Lee Strobel's books (The Case for Christ, and The Case For Faith).

Better go...I hear a fight breaking out between the kids.

June 28, 2010 - Msg 79717: Good evening, porch. Just getting ready to go to work, and thought I'd stop by. We've got a little weather cell parked overhead here, but so far, all it's done is drizzle a little, no real rain. Maybe later - it sure looks like it's packing the capability. Poor little Toye Starr - she hates storms and is going to have to ride this one out with nothing but her toys for comfort. When I'm home, she burrows up as close as she can get, and if I get up, she's right on my heels until I settle back down somewhere. I guess I'd feel the same way if I wasn't much bigger than a fuzzy house slipper. She's still just 4 1/2 pounds, and not gonna get any bigger.

I have a question, and am not looking to start a moulage, I'm just curious. In the "cash for clunkers" program, what was done with the cars that were bought? Does anyone know?

Well, I must run. I like to arrive with a couple of minutes to spare, otherwise I feel like I'm trying to catch up all evening. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

June 29, 2010 - Msg 79719: Welcome home, SPOT. Glad you had a great time!

Sorry, I don't know anything about what finally happened in the cash for clunkers program, Ro.

The clouds are building up outside but no storms yet. As of now, it appears the hurricane will probably come in well south of us but it is too early to tell. I certainly hope so, though. Right now we don't even have wood to put on all these windows. I am going to try to get the laundry finished and make sure we have as much preparation done as possible in case we lose power for awhile. The last time we had a storm three weeks ago, alot of people lost power for almost a week. Crazy.

Better go get something done.

June 29, 2010 - Msg 79720: All I remember about the Cash For Clunkers program last year is that MDC wanted to trade me in on it when I hit the big 5- 0! LOL

Storms must be the hot topic of late- we had one blow through here yesterday afternoon. I just came in from picking up tons of downed limbs & branches. But, we got some much needed rain! Kinda ticked off that all that wind broke my wind chimes, though. I have these cool wind chimes that are made from various old glass soda bottles. I believe it was an RC Cola one that I found bits of on the ground- dang storms!
Well, I have a meatloaf in the oven in honor of Spot's return. Y'all come on over to the Rock and we'll eat!

MDC, rehab went great last night. Thank you for those prayers. It was just one of those nights that everything goes the way is was supposed to and I had a very sweet prayer time with a young girl named Sarah whose mother is a heroin addict. Sara, however has had a genuine experience with the Lord and she has a very teachable, gentle spirit. Thanks for asking. :-)

Well Possum, whatever happens with this hurricane, I guess I will be staying put. I don't think it will hit here but it is pretty sure that we will get alot of rain and some strong winds since we will be north of it, most likely. I'm not getting excited about it, though. Will make a few preparations in case we lose power. Funny thing is, it isn't even raining here but the animals are acting very peculiar. The donkey and the goats have been standing/lying up against one side of the barn this morning. The move a few feet to graze, then go back. They know something is up. Even the dogs are laying up against the house for some odd reason.

Folks, I am concerned about my dad. The other day he told me that if it were not for his family he would kill himself. He has said that off and on for a few years so I didn't think that much of it but my sister called this morning and told me that dad was cleaning his gun last night (which he never does anymore) and making several phone calls to family members. I asked my sister where the gun was and she said it was locked in his desk and I told her she needed to find that key and get it out of there! Poor dad has been depressed because he can't do the things he used to. I decided i would take him on a trip to Louisianna in a week or so to try to get his mind off things. Hopefully, that will give him something to live for. One thing I know is an 84 yr old depressed man who is not in his right mind has no business with a gun! I didn't even know he had the thing. Oh boy.

Things have been kind of rocky with SIL since yesterday. She and Sean aren't getting along, if you can believe it. Its like having two adolescent kids in the household!

Better go get something else done...

June 29, 2010 - Msg 79727:
Boo, you need to take some kind of action regarding that weapon your despondent dad has. Trying to hide it is not a good idea unless you have a secure place for it. A better option is to purchase and install a trigger guard on it.
Your family also needs to have a talk with dad reminding him how much he means to each person. He needs a to boost his self-esteem.
He also needs to have more contact with the family members so that he can participate more in their daily lives, even if that just means sitting around observing and offering grandfatherly advice and comfort.
Whenever I would run errands, I would always ask my mother to come along for the ride. I don't remember her ever refusing. I also took her out weekly to restaurants.
I would also try to find something that she could perform without too much physical effort. Since she loved to sew, there were times when I purposely ripped clothing just to give her something to repair.
If your dad has limited movement, he needs a special place next to a main window so that he can observe the outside world and nature when the family is busy with other things.
For my mom, I had a table with writing material next to the main picture window in the living room. Next to this was her recliner. Next to that was a port-a-potty. And next to that was a hospital bed.
I also removed photos from our family albums to create a collage showing the progression of her grandchildren. I mounted this nearby so that she could view this everyday.
Please take some action now.

Finally, the unsigned Msg 79722 was MDC, not me. If I ever forget to sign a post, I will post a following message.

June 29, 2010 - Msg 79730: Good evening, porch! Last night's shift was long, but fulfilling. About midnight, the ER sent us a 46 yr old woman with severe abdominal and back pain, with possible ovarian cancer. Pleasant lady, scared to death, of course. I was able to "talk her down" a little, medicated her for her pain, and she finally slept. I just called the unit and spoke with the nurse who took over from me - learned that it was an ovarian cyst, surgery cleaned it all up, and she went home about an hour ago! Praise the Lord!

I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but a couple of weeks ago, my Dish Network HD/DVR went on the blink. The internal fan had quit, so the box would overheat and shut itself down. I called them, they sent me a replacement, but of course when the old one leaves, all my recorded shows go with it. So I bought an external hard drive and hooked it up, intending to transfer the recordings over. Drat and rats, it would not transfer it. I guess the box is just too damaged - it will play current programming, and will even play the recordings, but refused to transfer to the hard drive. It made all the right noises, and said it was doing it, but then it didn't. So, I lost all my good shows, like "Blue Planet" and such. Oh well. I guess they'll be run again. Anyway, the new one is now installed, and I spent half an hour re-creating my favorites lists. Ah, technology! I remember when you bought a TV, carried it in and plugged it in, turned it on and it worked. If it quit working, and the man of the house was even remotely handy, he could pull out the burned-out tube, go buy another one, and put it in place, and the TV would work again. If the picture wasn't clear, you could manipulate the rabbit ears until it improved. If that didn't work, you could hang a few strips of aluminum foil from the rabbit ears, and it almost always would work after that. Yep, those were the days!

Well, guess I'll go rustle up some grub. Don't know what it will be. I'm half tempted to drive up to Spring Creek and get some of their wonderful barbecue, but their take-out service is inside the restaurant, and I don't want to get dressed. It will be packed, and I can guarantee you I'd see at least a couple of people I know. I look a mess, and just am too lazy to do anything about it. So - maybe a can of soup. Doesn't matter, I'll be eating again tomorrow, so it's okay.

Possum dear, it's my pleasure. I hope all goes well. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

June 29, 2010 - Msg 79731: Oh my, Poor Horatio. I want to thank you for that post...it was very encouraging. The advice was right on and to hear about your care for your mother..how touching. Thank you for sharing and let me assure you the gun situation is being taken care of. As it turns out, my sister and I were wrong about dad. I called my brother, whom Dad phoned yesterday and Dave said that dad was in a very good mood and had intended to only call him, but Dave encouraged him to call his other son and grandson. When I talked to dad, he was telling me about how he had a such a nice day yesterday because of his phone conversations with his loved ones. He is doing ok and was enthusiastic about the trip to Louisianna next month. The advice you gave mentioned some things that we really need to do that we have been neglecting so I thank you for that reminder. I will tell you that I will absolutely determine to do those things and would welcome it is you would hold me accountable in the future. I always knew I liked you, PH, but after reading that post I really understand why. Amazing.

Thank you to you, also MDC. Your a great encouragement to me, as always.

Glad the night went well, Ro, and happy for the woman you mentioned! :-) PS-when I told me kids about rabbit ears and aluminum foil they really laughed at me.

Gotta go, my brother wanted me to call him this evening and give him a report on dad. Love to all,

Boo

June 30, 2010 - Msg 79732:
RO- could the dish people who replaced your box try to recover the shows? Those geeks are usually pretty good.
Also, I hate to spoil the nostalgia party, but I still have rabbit ears on , yes, my big flat screen TV! They work great and i get 40 over the air channels, albeit (love that word) 3 are in espanol. Tubes however, I am happy to say, are
of the bygone days. I recall once when my dad said that $5.00 was way too much to pay for a tube (you know, one of those big ones with the clamp on top!) so we went without TV for several days until my brother and I chipped in some of our paper route money! ha
BOO- good to hear that about dear old dad!
MDC

June 30, 2010 - Msg 79733: Thanks MDC. It is a relief that he is ok. You had to go without TV for several days? If that had been my sister and me, we would have found a way to buy a new tube ourselves, too. We would have croaked without TV for a week...what, not Brady Bunch or Walton's...Night Gallery...Wild Wild West?!!!

Better go...got a doc's appointment this morning.

Boo

June 30, 2010 - Msg 79734: Good morning, porch! Just got a call from my son's wife (in Florida). He had his hip replacement surgery this morning, only took an hour and a half, and all went very well. The surgeon said it was about the worst hip he had seen in his career, and he doesn't know how he was walking on it. Anyway, he now has a new one, and if I know my son, he will be back to his normal activity in a couple of weeks. He is one of the most determined people I know.

MDC, I'm pretty sure the dish people won't be of any help in recovering my lost recordings. There was no technician here to replace the box, they just shipped it, and I changed it out with the old one. I'll be shipping the old receiver back to them today to be rebuilt and resold, but of course they won't try to extract my data - nope, ain't gonna happen. On the bright side, the "Life" series is being rerun this Sunday, and I have already programmed the new box to record it! Now I'll just watch for "Blue Planet" and will get that one too. As for all those eps of "Barney Miller", well - they're still re-running it on WGN now and then, so maybe I can rebuild that little library as well. I haven't seen anybody running "WKRP" in quite a while, so guess that one is lost, along with "Bob Newhart" - the one where he owned the Stratford Inn. Oh well, it's not a value of life.

Well, gotta run. Grandson Landry has been with Eloise since Sunday night, and we'll meet his mom for lunch and hand him over, I guess, then do a bit of mousing around. Bath and Body Works has a sale on their foaming hand cleaner, which I really like, so that will probably be one stop. We still have one of their stores in the Irving Mall, it hasn't closed down or become a dollar store yet. Our mall is dying. With the changing demographics around here, there just isn't a base of clientele to support nice stores, so the thing is running down at a rapid rate. Too bad. MDC, I'll bet you know what I'm talking about - you folks in Arizona are dealing with the same thing. I used to enjoy going to the mall, but now I just go to the entrance nearest whatever remaining store I might still be interested in, go in and do my errand, and get out. No more fun lunches in the food court - not safe. No more walking and window-shopping - again, not safe. Gangs of thuggish guys (and girls) hanging around, blocking entrances so that you have to push by them - nope, not for me. There are three of those "cherry picker" lookout boxes, so cops are monitoring the parking lot all the time, but I still feel uneasy. I park well away from other cars, approach my car carefully and look inside before I open the door, even though I locked the car. You just never know. I click the button only once, so that only my door is unlocked, then get in and lock the door again before starting the car. It never used to be this way, and I'm sorry that is now, but it is. I just try to be careful. Things have a way of changing, don't they? However, as my dad would have said, I'm above ground and vertical today, so it's a good day.

Blessings! --Romeena

June 30, 2010 - Msg 79735:
RO- I'll make one comment/answer here, and then we can get back to tags, but yes, I DO indeed know what you mean. One example is a nice local grocery chain changed some of their stores to cater to the demographics', but those stores quickly became magnets for crime, etc. I think if they
had just left them as regular grocery stores,
the people still would have come, just enjoyed a nice clean store like everybody else.
I must also say however that that is all changing very quickly these days as the new law date gets closer.
I watched "A date for Gomer" last nite!
"Gomer, she's nice." Poor Mary Rose, but all ended well!
Prayers for all.

The upper right part of a hurricane is the worst,so watch where it is coming in.Yep, those animals know something is brewing- I remember when Hugo hit us, my husband ventured outside right before it hit and told me that there were dozens upon dozens of birds lined up all around the base of the house. Nothing he'd ever seen before- wish I had seen them, but I wasn't about to go out in those winds. Just take good care-hope you don't lose power.
