We still need to get together with her and her husband and have a talk but it should be alot easier now.

Hope you get some more snow!

February 23, 2010 - Msg 77903: Mornin' Y'all! Boo, I loved Sean's comment about his grandma's singing! Poor pastor!

We have a lady like that in our church too. Not hearing impaired (well, I don't think so) but she's like Barney- can't sing a lick. She has her favorite hymns that she goes full throttle on. You can hear her over the choir & everyone.

She came up to speak to me after the Christmas concert and told me she enjoyed it so much that she might join the choir next year! LOL

Oh, I'm NOT in the choir, by the way. I KNOW I can't sing!

Speaking of singing- good luck cutting your CD,Rev! Your voice is a gift & your music a blessing.

Well, breakfast over at the Diner. We'll charge it to Pappa Bear this time!

February 23, 2010 - Msg 77904: I'm back. A little "snow" still falling, if you want to call it that. Looks more like somebody is using a salt-shaker - just very tiny granules, sort of sifting down, and naturally, not accumulating. It's actually hard to see, I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if I hadn't been expecting it.

I just turned on Zone 1 in my sprinkler system. That zone waters the big flower island, which is full of pansies and dianthus. They'll fare much better in the event of a hard freeze, if they've been well-watered. It also supplies a little tube that goes to the main birdbath, and fills it. Ha! If that's not the height of laziness, I don't know what is. Beats going out there in the cold and unwinding the hose, though. Already the birdbath has several visitors and it's not even full yet. That zone also supplies a little line to the pond, and tops it off to compensate for evaporation, whenever the zone runs. Convenient, and Joe didn't charge me for those installations.

Boo, I'm glad things improved where that woman is concerned. Makes me wonder if your pastor might have had a heart-to-heart with her, and has kept it confidential, which he should. Whatever, praise the Lord for her change of heart, and I'm glad to hear it.

Singing. Hmmm. I used to carry a pretty good alto. Not a great voice, but not bad. Along the way, something happened, and it's just gone. Voice is scratchy and weak, and the pitch I want isn't always what I get. It was fun while it lasted, but now I've just decided to be an enthusiastic listener most of the time.

Well, got to get moving. Chores are piling up around here. Be blessed! --Romeena

February 23, 2010 - Msg 77905: Maybe the Lord moved into her heart, Boo.

About the lady who sings off tune, just remember that we will all have glorified voices in Heaven. For some of us, that is worth more than with others. ;)

We(wife and I) are heading down to Indiana to fix up my MIL's bedroom, and getting a new adjustable bed for her, so she can move back into her bedroom. She had been sleeping out in the living room on a recliner since her back surgery.
Had to leave the Kai behind, and I feel pretty bad about that. Sometimes I feel like I'm abandoning her. But she likes it over at her Grandma's house(the other grandma, of course).
I will be glad to get home later this week, depending on how long this takes.

I have been forgetting to tell you good folks that I put some videos on YouTube of my dad playing some old songs he used to play alot on the piano. His fingers maybe can't move as nimbly as they once could, but he still plays pretty well for an 84 year old. My mom and dad had been wanting to just record him playing on a tape recorder, but I figured why not get the whole thing, audio and visual. I think it will mean more in the years to come for all of us kids and relatives(or friends).
If you would like to see them, just put in my name(with no space inbetween words), like this: sterlingholobyte into the search bar once you get on YouTube, and it should bring up all my videos. You'll be able to tell which ones are of my dad, as those would be the ones without puppets, and with him sitting at the piano.

Well, have to get going. We stopped at Champaign, IL last night before we make the rest of the way to Bloomington, IN. We managed to beat any snow(except some very light flurries, if you could call them that even), and I am hoping we can make it before any more snow comes down today. We should be heading back home on Thursday, Friday, or so, and the weather is supposed to be alot better on those days so we don't have to worry about the return trip, thank God.

Talk to you all later!

February 23, 2010 - Msg 77913: Hey everyone. Hope you are all staying warm. It is cold and rainy here on my end of the porch. I wanted to share a REALLY good bread pudding recipe with you that is so good on cold days. Its called Individual Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding. You make it in individual custard cups or you can make it in a large pie pan. The way I do it is that I use the bread that has been in the bread drawer for a few days so it is firm (this is a great way to get rid of the old bread that is still good). You butter the bread slices. I like to use left over hamburger buns. Butter one side and then cut or tear into pieces. Butter the custard cups, then put pieces of buttered bread into bottom of cup, sprinkle with a handful of chocolate chips and some chopped pecans, if desired. Cover that with another layer of bread pieces. Continue with other cups until 8 cups are filled this way. Set this aside and then beat together in mixing bowl: 1 cup of cream and 2/3 cup of milk (I used half milk and half vanilla flavored coffee creamer), 2 eggs plus one egg yolk, 4 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/3 C of granulated sugar, 1/8 tsp of salt, and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Pour this carefully over bread in cups, mash down to thouroughly soak the bread pieces. Butter 6 pieces of aluminum foil large enough to cover cups and cover each cup. Place cups on baking sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for about 30 minutes, then remove foil, sprinkle each with a tsp of sugar and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes. Check on them now and then because ovens differ. They are best served warm. :-)

Don't know if all of you are familiar with bread pudding but it is popular here in south texas.

Better git!

Boo

February 23, 2010 - Msg 77914: Hey everyone. Love bread pudding! One thought, though; couldn't you just melt some butter and pour it over each layer? Seems a lot easier than buttering each slice. I'm always looking for the easy way out...

My computer was kaput at the time, and she did it from somebody's laptop, using mail-2-web, I think. To 77915, I hate to bother her right now, as she is pretty torn up over losing her little dog. We'll talk soon, and I probably will ask, but meantime that silly message is still going out. The emails are coming through - Tom, I got yours - but that message goes out as an automatic reply. Hmm. Maybe I'll call her in a little while. I need to see how she's doing anyway.

Bread pudding sounds great, Boo, and it's one of my favorite desserts. Believe it or not, some of the best I ever ate can be found in our hospital cafeteria. They use the leftover cinnamon buns, donuts and other pastries, and a little bread, and it's unbelievably good. Lots of nuts and raising in it, too.

She showed me how to turn that email message off. It can't be done through my Thunderbird email program. It was done through the rr.com site, therefore had to be undone at the same place. Now I know, and have bookmarked the page!

Well, I think I'm going to fry a package of chicken legs for dinner. I very rarely fry chicken, because it makes such a mess, it hardly seems worth it for one person. Once in a while, though, I get hungry for it and will fry a few pieces. Tonight is one of those nights! I've got leftover cauliflower and asparagus from last night, so all I have to cook is the chicken. There are five legs in a package and I can't eat them all, so somebody come by and share with me. February 24, 2010 - Msg 77925: Good morning, porch! Hey, MDC, no offense taken, for pete's sake! Your suggestion was the logical thing to do, and is what I did just an hour or so later, but I had been dithering over whether to call her right then or not. You gave me the little push I needed and it worked out fine. She still can't talk about Snickers, so we just didn't go there, but I got my email fixed.

Boo, I watched the figure skating too. Wasn't it beautiful? Those young people are so strong and graceful, and so talented. Watching them, you understand the phrase "poetry in motion."

Lucy, unless you're just smitten with the notion of a brand-new car, may I suggest that you find a really classy, reputable new-car dealership and see if they offer "certified" pre-owned cars? These cars differ greatly from a plain old "used car." As most of you know, I've driven certified pre-owned Cadillacs for years, and each one has been a jewel. You may not want a Cadillac, but other cars can be found under these programs. I may be telling you things you already know, but just in case -- the "certified" designation means that the dealer has examined the car, determined it to be in new-car condition, and they give you the new-car warranty, just as if you'd purchased it brand-new. The warranty starts, of course, with the date the car was first placed on the road, so if you buy a two-year old car with a six-year warranty, you will have four more years on the warranty. Cadillac gives a 6 year, 100K mile warranty on new cars. My cars always age out, they never reach the mileage, because I just don't put that many miles on a car, usually about 7-8K a year. The point here is, you can buy a like-new car, backed by a warranty, for about half what it cost when it was new, maybe even a little less. It has worked well for me. Beats buying from Honest John on a used-car lot, or something out of the newspaper ads, believe me. And, IMHO, it beats paying full price for a new one that loses a third of its value when you drive it out of the dealership. Now, that "certified" thing is not free, it's usually around $1k and is rolled into the price of the car. It's worth it. One major repair, or a few minor ones, and you'd have your money back. Truthfully though, in all these years, I've never had any major repairs. I maintain my cars well, change the oil every 3k miles, and fix any minor thing when it breaks. It's under warranty - of course I'm going to fix it! Well, that's just something to think about.

Then again, there's just nothing like that new-car smell. A word of warning - remember new cars are like new babies. Unless you really want one and are prepared to pay the price, don't smell 'em!

Well, gotta go feed Toye Starr. She just hates it when I stop off at the computer when we first get up! She's wearing a trail from here to the kitchen and back, trying to lead me in there. BE blessed, friends. --Romeena

It all makes sense now. The trouble I had with Mama a few years back (I was banned from going over there),my mama getting in a bad way with pain pills- it was all planned. I think they( my sister & her husband) kept her in a drug induced fog just for their own gain. Mama doesn't even recall half of what was in the original will! Y'all I saw the original yesterday- EVERYTHING went to them! They played Mama like a violin. She can only tell me that she was "manipulated and brainwashed" back then.

Oh,and she told me recently that she was sorry for that time and wanted to apologize. Ro, you remember me "crying on your shoulder" back then. I remember you telling me to "take the high road" and my Mama would come back to me at some point. You were so right. Thanks,my friend.

February 25, 2010 - Msg 77932: Mornin' Possum! Sounds like you are taking the bull by the horns and taking care of this situation with your family. Prayers for you this morning.

Glad things are going well, REV!

It is COLD here this morning!...supposed to warm up and be a beautiful, clear day..same as yesterday. Spring is trying to "spring" around here but it was in the 30's last night which low for this time of year. We already have some wildflowers sprouting up, though.

Have to take Erin to the doc to have that mole removed from the top of her head. I told the doc I wanted to just get it off of there instead of coming back every few months to check it. I thought removing it before summer was wise. I am a bit concerned with it's location because I don't want her to end up with a bald spot or a cowlick on top of her head after! Pray for Erin, please.

I had my dr's follow-up yesterday and found I am a little anemic, so that explains why I am more tired, I guess..well, that and all the work and stress! She wants me to have an appointment with a gastro doc...I guess she is thinking since I am almost 50, might as well "get the scope". Don't know if I'm going to go for that. I have always had alot of stomach trouble so she wants me to have everything checked out. She told me something interesting that I didn't know. I was telling her that a couple of months ago, I was having headaches and took Advil for a few days, followed by some pretty bad tummy aches for awhile. She told me never to take Advil or Aleve and that were more likely to cause bleeding ulcers and gastritis than even Aspirin. Apparently she has seen alot of problems associated with it's use. I don't take it since the last episode I had with it, anyway.

Well, better get moving...see you all later!

Morning!!
MDC

February 25, 2010 - Msg 77938: Good morning, porch! Here I am, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed after a good night's sleep! I was supposed to work last night, but to my delight, we were overstaffed after a bunch of unexpected discharges. I was first on the "cancel me" list, but one of the other nurses is a single mom and wanted to attend a play that her daughter was in, so I said I'd come in until 11, and then she could come in and I'd go home. That's what we did, and it worked out fine. Little Starr sure was pleased when I walked in about 11:15.

Possum, I'm so proud of you. You were so smart to get that POA, as that obviously puts you in the driver's seat now. Again, I'd suggest the "high road". The temptation is to cut bad sister out altogether, and that might be your mom's inclination right now. However, here's an idea. Determine, if you can, how much your sister has siphoned off over the years. Then set the estate up so that each of you starts with a fair share, but bad sister must repay what she has taken, back into the estate. It would come out of her share of the inheritance, and that amount would then be divided between the remaining heirs. In other words, level the field. I watched this take place in my mom's sister's family. She had four children, and the oldest boy is a train wreck. Greedy, manipulative, untruthful, self-serving and just generally screwy. He managed to squeeze many thousands of dollars out of her before his brothers and sister realized what he was doing. All of that was taken into account at her death, he ended up actually owing the estate a couple of thousand (never settled) and boy, was he mad. He moved off to Pennsylvania in a big old snit, and everyone was glad to see him go. It would have been better if he had been able to receive even a little something, but alas, he had been to the well too many times. If it works out that there's still something left for your sister, give it to her with blessings. It will make the road much smoother later on.

Boo, I'm not sure I agree with that doctor's pronouncement about NSAIDs. Used properly, they have their place. There are people who would be practically immobile without them, due to arthritis. It's true that some people are more sensitive to them, I'm sure, but generally speaking, they definitely have their place. The dangers are in taking them on an empty stomach (never do that!), taking them too often or in too high doses. Taken with alcohol, they can be VERY dangerous, but I know that's not a problem for you. I'm not denying that NSAIDs can cause gastric irritation and even bleeding, but again, I think the danger lies in the dosage, the frequency and the "empty stomach" thing. Taken judiciously, they're great!

Aspirin gets a lot of the same bad press, and the same caveats apply. I take two baby aspirin, morning and evening, to keep my blood thinned down so I don't have to go on coumadin. Most people with a pacer are taking coumadin, but I just refuse, for several reasons. So, my cardiologist lets me get by with taking aspirin. Not quite as effective, he says, but my coag numbers still come up in the acceptable range, so he's okay with it. Sometimes a "side effect" can become the reason for taking a drug. Isn't that interesting? Anyway, point here is - I wouldn't be in too big a hurry to dump the Advil. Just be careful.

Well, the feeders are empty again, so guess I'd better go fill them. There are several squirrels out there, sitting around looking hopeful, so I'll take care of them. Cute little things. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

I am glad, for your mother's sake that you found out what was going on. That is very sad and abuse of the elderly. Bless you for stepping up and doing the right thing for your mom. You are a good daughter, and maybe she will appreciate all you do for her more now.

That interesting, Ro, that you take asa vs. coumadin. I would hate to be on coumadin! Unfortunately, I can't take aspirin because it tear my stomach up worse than anything. Glad you can tolerate it, though.

Well, wanted to tell you that we added two new members to the family today. I had been wanting to get a couple of pups for the kids this spring and I have a friend who rescued two abandoned puppies from the highway. Someone had dropped them along the road and were in danger of being hit. They are about 2 months old, but big. They are litter mates and both boys, so of course we named them "Andy" and "Barney" and boy, are they cute! They look very similar but one is just a little bigger than the other. They are both black and white and the vet says they are a mix of border collie, boxer maybe, lab, who knows, but they have short hair but are marked kind of like a border collie and have speckled noses. One is layed-back and kind of calm and the smaller one (Barney) is a little more active. When we picked them up, Sean hauled them both onto his lap in the car and they fell asleep in about 2 minutes. Talk about cute! I will have to get some pictures of them. The kids are in heaven they are so blissfully happy to finally have some puppies here on the place. We made them a nice bed in a box and they are sleeping in the barn.

Oh, almost forgot to say Erin did get the mole removed today and it was a snap (except for the painfully long waiting period before seeing the doc!). It took all of about 5 minutes from the time the doc came in, took it off and left. Erin never made a peep or moved a muscle, even when they stuck the little needle in and injected the Lidocaine. What a tough little thing she can be, bless her heart. I took her to the bookstore after as a treat and she bought a book. I surpised her with the puppies today. She had no idea we were getting them until we brought them home. Wish you could have seen her face. She was one happy critter.

Gotta go...Love to All,
Boo

February 26, 2010 - Msg 77948: Ok REV, here I am at the diner waiting for everyone. Guess I am here too early. I woke up at 5:30 this morning for some crazy reason.

"Hey" to SPOT. Hope you get some good rest.

I thought I was going to have to drive to San Antonio today but I got out of it. Yay! I was supposed to drive sis-in-law there to meet some friends that she is going to visit at some point. Turns out the friends are coming down with flu or something so she is staying away. I was really glad because I didn't feel like driving up and turning around and driving right back and I didn't want to leave the pups alone their first day. They need to get used to the place and although it is fenced well, they could push through the openings in the fence and gate if they really wanted to. As far as I can tell they slept in the barn in their bed all night.

Well, guess I will finish my coffee and see you all later.

Boo

February 26, 2010 - Msg 77949: Good morning, porch! Boo, congratulations on getting the kids the puppies, and rescues at that. Hooray for you! As for sleeping in the barn, even if it was the kids, that's not a bad deal. I've had a few naps in a barn on a summer afternoon. The smell of hay and sweet feed, and the delightful scent of leather tack and yes, a horse. I love the smell of a horse! Add in the gentle sounds made by the chickens as they search around for treats, and it's a recipe for a lovely nap. I wish I could go back there.

Possum, it sounds like you've got things under control. I'm so proud of you, and so happy for you. It's about time things went your way for a change.

REV, by any chance can you play a mountain dulcimer? I know very well what you can do with a guitar, but how are you with other stringin' instruments? I have a mountain dulcimer, on loan right now to Alan (the friend I want you to meet in October) and I was just wondering if you know how to play it. I wish I did. Bought it with the intention of learning, but oh well.

There are three different kinds of doves all over the ground underneath my feeder right now. Mr. Squirrel has been at the feeder, has knocked seed out everywhere, and the doves are taking advantage of it. When they finish, there won't be a seed left. I never have to worry about them sprouting in my grass.

Well, it was a long night, and I'm tired, so after I feed little Starr, I'm hitting the ironing board. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

February 26, 2010 - Msg 77954: Friends, I'm sorry to come on here & bother y'all with this, but this has to be said and said here:

This morning my brother in law knocked on Mama's door and presented her with a folder of xerox copies of my recent posts here on the Porch. Not only MY posts, but things that some of you dear caring friends had posted in reply to the problems/recent events that I have shared with y'all.

I have been violated, and the entire Porch has been violated.

I have been coming here to the Porch since June of 2002 and I will be D@mned if two sick twisted people will keep me from sharing my thoughts, feelings, joys, bad times, good times, prayers etc. with my Porch Family!

We've always known that the Porch is open to all,we've dealt with our share of "lurkers" and occasional "odd balls". However, they came on here with an agenda- to hurt and cause MORE problems.

Well, I have news for those two- I WILL NOT BE BROKEN!

So, my dear Porch Family- there it is.Comment if you will, or let it be. I just had to get this off of my chest.

Love to all you dear Porchsters, and please continue to keep Cindy and Joe in your prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you on this.
Yes, it is a public board, but , on the other hand, I think we have all felt that we can come here and "sit on the porch" for a while without such things happening, but in today's world, who knows. The good thing is that our moderator does see all IP addresses, and many of us know each other's information, so we are with you in that respect all the way! Prayers for all!

February 26, 2010 - Msg 77958: Good Friday Porch, just stopping by for a minute this evening.

Possum, I am so sorry your family felt the need to do something so hateful and mean. They certainly need our prayers,

I did manage to work some this week and did fairly well. I have had some issues with my incision healing properly so I would appreciate your prayers that it will resolve itself soon. I won't
elaborate and it is one of those things that can happen with surgery it is just aggravating. thanks for your prayers,

lets go to Olive Garden for supper. my treat!

Prayers and blessings to all.

February 26, 2010 - Msg 77959: Good afternoon, porch. Possum, I am so sorry that those two individuals chose such a childish and spiteful way of causing you pain. I understand what you mean when you say you feel violated, but I want you to know that I have no such reaction myself. I'm sure a lot of people read the porch, for whatever reason, and go away without ever revealing their agenda. Frick and Frack just decided to show their (ahem) backside to the world, and no one should be embarrassed but them. You have done nothing but seek support from friends, and give whatever details were necessary to assure understanding. We have done nothing but offer you support and comfort. Those two have not just taken the low road, they've dug a trench. That's sad, and as others have suggested, we need to pray for them, that they will realize that with the seeds they're sowing, their harvest is going to be a bitter one.

Love you, dear. --Romeena

February 27, 2010 - Msg 77962: Good morning, friends! What a beautiful day we have today on the Dallas end of the porch. Clear skies, 37 degrees and rising, and no wind. After yesterday's wet, blustery weather this is a treat. The critters are out in force. A pair of silly little squirrels are chasing each other all over the place - up and down, over and under, round and round - such fun to watch! They go at break-neck speed, leaping from branch to fence to wire to tiny twig and never seem to fall. Amazing. I wish I had just a teaspoon of their energy!

There are three doves out there, all different, yet they co-exist so peacefully. There's a lesson there, surely. I have white-wings, mourning doves, Incas and now and then a Eurasian collared dove. Different in size, markings and nesting habits, they all have one thing in common - they love seeds! They also love cracked corn, and I usually keep some to spread out on the stones, but have been out for several weeks. Guess I need to stop at the feed store.

Well, my other "critter" is standing here looking at me with a disgusted expression on her little face. I stopped at he computer again, before going to the kitchen, so she hasn't been fed. Never mind that there's kibble in her little bowl in the bedroom. She wants her tasty little lump of Beneful. Kibble is what her vet wants her to eat, but for her it's a last resort. Can't say I blame her. So I compromise. She gets her Beneful, but only a small amount. To stave off hunger, she must eat the kibble as well.

Later, taters. She just paw-punched my ankle, so I think she's getting serious. Be blessed! --Romeena

February 27, 2010 - Msg 77963: So sorrry, Possum. I don't even know what I can say to help besides we will be here for you and I hope you don't stay away. My prayers for you, your mother, and your sister and brother-in-law. What's impossible with man is possible with God. :-)

Well, I have some sad news but all has ended well. Yesterday morning, I was in the backyard with the pups when a huge hawk tried to nab one. It almost nabbed me! It was one big, hungry hawk and wasn't afraid to come close enough to me to get a pup. I was so afraid that it would get one of them and I didn't want to keep the pups in until they were bigger. I thought of having Bruce shoot the hawk with a .22 but there are at least two of the hawks and who knows how many others? I am now keeping the cat in the house because I have a friend nearby that had three cats that she thinks the hawks got. Saw one carried off and then dropped...terrible. Well, the kids agreed that maybe the pups would be better off with the original owner and she wanted them back if things didn't work out. So, we took them back to her ranch and they were very happy to get back and the owner was happy to have them back. I promised the kids we would find suitable replacements but maybe bigger, older pups that would be safe out here. There was a local family who had a 4 month old yellow lab pup and they were giving her to a good home because they didn't have a fenced yard and she was in a kennel all day and night. We went and looked at her and she was living in a cage and had been since she was born. She was very pretty but skinny and appears to have some anomalies of the feet. She can run and seems healthy and fine so we took her home. I couldn't stand to leave her in that cage. She is going to be a beautful lab and will be a big one. She has a lovely lab face and has a wonderful temperatment. She is not too hyper and seems to learn quickly. I think she will be a perfect fit for us and the kids really like her. Now to find her a playmate!...and soon. She is lonely outside by herself. Her name is Gracie but I don't know if we will keep it or not. She is certainly not graceful with those big, clumsy feet of hers. Better scram!

February 27, 2010 - Msg 77968: Good afternoon porch, checking in on this Saturday afternoon, Cloudy and cold on my end of the porch. spending the day resting and watching Hallmark channel.

My husband and son are working today and Beth is helping out with the chores. OUr Youth group at church participated in a
project for homelessness and hunger this week end. They did a 30 hour famine where they did not eat food for 30 hours. They
started yesterday at 8 am, were not supposed to eat at all during the day at school (unless they had special healthy requirements), had a special service at church at 6:30 last night and then spent the night in our activities center, sleeping on the floor, some in cardboard boxes. This morning they went to the salvation army to serve meals and then to the nursing home to visit the residents. They raised about 2,000 for the 30 hour FAMINE PROJECT. Pretty amazing project for teen agers to participate in and to go without food for that long when most of them are used to not going without food at all.

Our church family also lost a loved one last night. Our oldest church member went home to be with the Lord last evening. Mrs. Nannie Marsh was 107 years old, She started the Womens Missions organization at our church and served as treasurer for 52 years, She was also a charter member of the local senior citizens group, She leaves 1 daughter who is 84 years old. We will miss her dearly but rejoice in knowing she is with the Lord.

Well, guess I have rambled on and on long enough. Everyone have a blessed day. Prayers for everyone.

Big Maude

February 27, 2010 - Msg 77969: Good afternoon, friends. Possum, don't worry about imposters. First, we know your voice and your style and likely would recognize an interloper. Also, most of us know how to ID the source of a post, so a quick trouble-check would reveal the truth. You do always post from the same place, don't you?

Boo, that's so scary about that hawk. There's a hawk that comes around here pretty often - I can spot him sitting in a big cottonwood in a backyard about a hundred yards from here. He came in my yard and snatched a pigeon that was on the ground not ten feet from where I was standing one day. 'Bout scared me out of my shoes (if I'd been wearing any!) That's why I would never let the Plum outside, and SURELY don't let Toye Starr out there! She's such a little morsel, that thing would grab her and carry her off with no trouble at all. Besides, every time I take her outside even for a few minutes, she comes in with a couple of fleas, and I'm not having that. I know not everyone feels the same, but for me and my family, our dogs live in the house with us. The bigger ones go outside to play and to potty, but they live with us. Oh, and Boo, be very careful about going after that hawk with a .22. Many varieties of hawk are on the "threatened species" list and you can get in a heap of trouble if you shoot one. Unless you're really sure what kind of hawk you're dealing with, and know it's not a protected one, it could get ugly.

Big Maude, I hope you are back to 100% very soon, with everything all healed up. That's sad about the loss of Mrs. Marsh, but I'll bet she was happy to leave her aches and pains behind and to go meet her Lord. A life well lived....

This new computer has a picture-handler called "Picasa" on it, and I'm sure fighting some battles with it. There are some features I really like, and it's a very powerful program, but it's also very confusing and just frustrates the daylights out of me in some areas. I'm sure I just don't understand it, but right now, I wish I had my little old program back. Also, I lost my "Agendus", a program that had let me build an address and phone number directory - very simple, very intuitive. No longer available except some versions for Palm Pilot and such, and I sure do miss it. Somebody moved my cheese!!

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena
