Well we just about can put January to bed. Thats fine with me. Gets us closer to Spring. I swear, the very first snowflake that settled in my yard back in November is still sitting there, thats how cold this winter has been for us. I was just looking out my back window yesterday thinking I need to get out and prune my fruit trees. That means spring is close at hand. :)

Albert left a quarter? I left one too. Well I'll just go back over the the Diner and put my hat over one of them. No sense in throwing money away.

Church canceled on my end of the porch today as well.

Brunch menu: pancakes, waffles, maple syrup, bacon, sausage links, ham, eggs your way, fruit, biscuits, blueberry muffins, toast, jelly, apple butter, fresh churned butter. coffee, tea, orange juice, cranberry juice and then a big ole blanket and pillow for the couch! mayberry dvd's all afternoon!

Had a sad day today. Got a call from my wife while I was at work, saying that Kai's cat Sofie had passed away. We think it was during the night because she was still curled up on the old sofa she liked to sleep on.
Kai took it hard. She had been with my mom for most of the day helping to celebrate my mom's birthday. I got off work a little early, and told her after we had gotten back home after picking her up.
She just started bawling, and it hurt me and my wife to see. I must have just held her for 15 minutes(she wouldn't let go of me either), and then we sat on the chair for a while too while she calmed down.
At a time like that, you try to find some magic word to say to lessen the hurt, but I couldn't find anything except the usual, "you'll be ok." " Sometimes these things just happen." And "Sofie is in Heaven now".
We don't know what happened. Sofie wasn't exactly an old cat. The only thing that had been different in the past few days was we had her sheared again because of her mats in her hair. And they gave us an antibiotic to give to her because of some skin infection, but we only gave that to her one night since we got it, and then I don't think she got a full dose, because as you may know, it is rather hard to get a cat to take medicine orally. She spit half of it out.
Poor thing. The only relatively good part(if there is one) is that she seems to have died in her sleep.

Early Indian tribes have given names to all the full moons for each month. (at least I think thats who did) Last weekends was named the "Wol Moon" because legend has it they could hear the wolves howling all night looking for whatever it is they were looking for.
I will pray for Laci to have a good check up and be healthy and strong Possum.

Yea, it's getting to be a tad quiet here on the porch with all the women gone. I ain't heard no good gossip or nothin now for a while. :)

MDC, It sounds like the Cards coach ain't gonna give Linehert a free pass. He's gonna have to show some stuff this summer.

First the bad news. As most of us know, the Punxsutawny Phil, the official Groundhog Day groundhog, saw his shadow today. Therefore, according to tradition, that is supposed to indicate that we can expect six more weeks of winter.

Now for the good news. The Stormfax Almanac at http://www.stormfax.com/ghogday.htm#Facts has been keeping records of these official groundhog predictions since 1887. And according to their data, the predictions have only been accurate for 39% of the time. So, that means even though the groundhog saw his shadow today, we have a 61% chance of experiencing the opposite of what the groundhog predicted. That means there will NOT be six more weeks of winter. HOORAY!

Kai is doing better now. Though she did come home early from school on Monday. She wrote a nice note on the box that Sofie was in, and made a cross for her out of popsicle sticks. Don't know how we are going to bury her yet, as the ground is too hard. She'll have to remain in garage for now where it is cold.

I saw that Wolf moon, Asa. Big and bright it was. At least at early evening. Kind of got smaller as the night went on.

February 03, 2010 - Msg 77545: Well, I am finally up and running...hopefully Ro will be too. Here I sit with my coffee again but in a very uncomfortable chair. I bought new leather ones but haven't gotten them in here yet. :-( Bruce is doing great, no trouble now. I am pretty exhausted and need a vacation, though. I have annual women's retreat this weekend so that will help.

February 03, 2010 - Msg 77549: Good Wednesday Porch! I came home today and am doing pkay. Moving slow but steady and taking some pain meds that make me loopy so if my post seems bizarre then I will blame it on that. :).
Just wanted to stop by and let you all that that things went well with the surgery and I am on the mend hopefully. I will try and stop by again but wanted to say thanks for the prayers and concerns.

I have not had time to read all the archives but did see that Maude had surgery and Kai lost her beloved kitty. Glad you are on the mend, Maude.

Sterling, we are all so in love with our kitty Tigger that if anything happened to him it would really be bad and we have only had him almost a year. We had ideas that we would put him outside when we moved out here but no, that didn't work out. The poor thing got attacked by a ferrel cat out here and is terrified of being outdoors alone so he is back in the house, lazing around, getting fatter by the day....kinda like the rest of the family. ;-) Seriously though, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. I pray that Kai's broken heart is mended speedily.

I finally found the charger to my camera so some pictures will be on the way next week after I return from retreat. Of course, if you are on facebook you will probably be seeing some very embarrassing and humiliating pictures (posted by my friends) of me singing karaoke or something....yeesh!

Been enjoying the house and having lots of fires in the fireplace. It has actually been cold enough...lots of rain, too.

Thanks for that word about fish oil and garlic, MDC. I had forgotten about that and need to get him some. Sean is on it now, since he had nose bleeds from every cholesterol med they tried to give him. The first fish oil we gave him gave him nosebleeds but this latest one has not. It makes him sick at his stomach, though so I am getting him to take it right before bed and see how he does. I forgot to tell you all that the doc wants to do some hormone testing on sean due to his breast growth and certain other characteristics such as his voice not changing. Please remember him in your prayers. I forgot to say that we finally got off the Paxil and is doing much better on another med.

February 04, 2010 - Msg 77560: Hey, friends! I've finally gotten a chance to rock for a spell. I'm at Eloise's house, using her computer. My goodness, I've missed you all!!

Great news from Boo! I'm so glad to learn that Bruce is doing well. Have been praying all along, and also been praying for the porch in general. There are always needs, and even though I didn't know what they were, the Lord does, so I just asked Him to take care of my friends and meet them at their point of need, whatever it might be.

The word on my computer is that it will probably be late next week before I get it. Grrrr! I can't believe how attached, how habituated, I am to that thing! I find myself sitting at my desk, looking at a blank monitor, keyboard in place, but no computer. I decided not to go with a laptop. I guess I'm set in my ways, I just like the desktop PC, so that's what I'm getting. It will be loaded with everything I want on it, will be a bit "souped up" from the original model with some added memory. All my toys will be there, and I faxed the guru the confirmation codes for my AVG, which I had just renewed for two years, so he can be sure that's up and running as well. There will be a year-long gap in some things, thanks to my stupidity in not backing up regularly, but I can reconstruct most of it. Once I get my hands on the thing, I will ask all of you to email me so I can make sure I'm up to date on email addresses. Also, if you wish to provide them, I'll want your snail address as well, for the Christmas list. In fact, if someone has that list stored on your computer, you might just attach and forward it to me. However, all that will come later, once I actually have a computer again.

February 04, 2010 - Msg 77566: Good evening porch! just stopping by for a minute. Patrick let me use his laptop so I could visit from my comfy chair in the bedroom.
I have made several trips up and down the stairs today so I figured I had better stay put for a while. Feeling pretty good today, trying to avoid pain meds if possible. I don't like that loopy feeling. Still not much of an appetite but I suspect it will soon return and it sure won't hurt for me to miss a little food for few days! I am scheduled to go back to the doctor next week to have my staples removed so I should be able to move around better after that.

Glad to see everyone this evening. Glad you are feeling better SPOT. good to see BOO, Romeena, possum, ASA, MDC, Rev and everyone else.

February 05, 2010 - Msg 77571: Good morning everyone. I'm glad to hear BRUCE is doing better, and that you're up and running MAUDE. Prayers for poor KAI, and everyone else whose under the weather or feeling poorly. Oh, what the heck! Prayers for everyone.

The whole family has been striken to one degree or another with a bad head cold/throat kind of thing. It's misery. The kids bounced back pretty quickly, me, not so much. It's hard for LIla to sleep, so that makes the nights pretty lousy for the Mrs., her, and me.

We are expecting upward of two feet of snow between this afternoon and tomorrow evening. Around here, that means the grocery stores are way out of milk, tp, and bread. Good thing I head for the Coke and ice cream isles ;-). And we always have baby wipes. Too much information?

Anyway, the Mrs. has to work tonight so she might have to go in early if it starts to get bad. Then, with that much snow falling that fast, it's more than an even chance she will be stuck at work--either physically or due to shortages--until Sunday. Thankfully, she has a stock for Lila in the freezer. I'll tell you, though, I'm not cut out to be a single parent for four, especially four stuck in the house. Please pray!

Well, other than those little hiccups I can't complain. The Lord has been good to us. Hope you all are dandy. Have a great weekend.

Been stuck there once during a hurricane and it was tough. All the pregnant women in south texas were there, i think. Docs told them to come in just in case their water broke when the barometric pressure dropped. We had 'em everywhere.
