Porch family:
Just checking in to say I still love you guys. It's been crazy on this side of the porch. I ask that you pray for my mom's 1st cousin (77 yrs old) who suffered a massive stroke on Thursday night and is now waiting for the Lord to call her home. Her family is with her, but as you all know, it's tiring, wearing and extremely hard on the family. Will keep checking in , but will post when things calm down. Thanks for the prayers. ~New Neighbor

We love you too, NN. Prayers for your mom's cousin and family. :-(
I need to ask your prayers, friends. You probably remember that Bruce was having some chest pain about a year ago and they wanted to keep him in the hospital for a heart cath and he refused and left against medical advice (he is one stubborn German)? Well, after taking his blood pressure medicine, the problem seemed to resolve. Well tonight he finally told me that he has been having chest pressure for about a month (when he exerts himself). I don't want to get too graphic here but tonight when we were "together" he had to stop. When I pressured him to tell me what was wrong, he said he was haing alot of pressure in his chest. Something strange happened the last time, too, and he almost blacked out..he didn't tell me he was having chest pressure that time, though. Now I am really concerned. He insists on getting moved into the house before he goes for any tests and I am afraid for him to do any moving. I am trying to enlist alot of help from family and friends but tomorrow I am going to storm that dr's office and set up something for next week for him. In the meantime, I am making him take baby aspirin and carry his nitroglycerine with him. Folks, I think we are in for some difficult times because I really believe he has some blockage that will require some intervention. At least he is getting a warning. Many men his age don't get that warning until it is too late. Please pray that he will be ok until he can be evaluated and that I will have the strength to make him do what he should do. Who cares about a house if he is dead? I am very concerned.
Thanks for the listening ears and the praying hearts. Love you all.

1.) Prayers going out for Bruce, Boo and for New Neighbor too.
2.) Thank you kindly there, Romeena.
3.) If you think you are gonna catch flak to ask something from the missus, then don't ask. She'll tell you (if she wants to) where she's been. The next time you communicate with her and she's alright and safe, then that's good enough. You get to worrying about loyalties and stuff like that, especially since she is not there with you, and you'll worry yourself to a frazzle. Don't think the worse or even allow yourself to contemplate those thoughts. For your own personal well being you have to keep yourself in a positive mood, otherwise you'll spiral downwards and find it way tough to pull out of it.
Expecting rain by morning. Gobs more next week!! (hope the roof holds out... got some leaks. Grrrrr!!

Really good advice for Sterling, Albert. Being able to circumvent those anxious thoughts will keep him prepared for any conflict that might arise and will prevent irrational, fearful thoughts. Prayers for Sterling. Albert you don't know this yet but Sterling is a phenomenal father to his little girl, Kai, who is 9 (or 10). He is her primary caregiver and stayed home to care for her while his wife worked. Kai recently had heart surgery due to a congenital heart defect and the surgery was a sucess. Sterling is very devoted to his family and I know this is tearing him up. A few years ago, Sterling was concerned about the negative influences public school might have on Kai and wanted to put her in a private, Christian school. He was having some opposition from the missus and he asked us to pray. We did and she softened up to the idea and Kai has been attending a private, Christian school and last I heard was doing very well there. I wanted to tell you all of this so that you would know more about the integrity of the man you are praying for. He is a great guy. You can see a picture of him gazing lovingly at Kai when she was a baby and in the hospital if you go to Romeena's photo website. There are pictures of other porch folks and their families (including pets). Just go to romeena.myphotoalbum.com and click on "Porchsters home and families".
Thank you for your prayers on Bruce's behalf. It means the world to me.

Morning all.
Lot's of heavy stuff here this morning. Sorry N.N. to read about your Moms cousin. It sounds like she is not expected to survive. Prayers for her and your family.
Boo, I sure hope you can get Bruce in to the Doctors fast. I don't know what it is about us fellers but we just will not allow ourselves to believe we are ailing. On more then one occasion my wife has been the one to threaten me to get me to see a doctor. We to often don't take these warnings seriously and think we can waalk them off, or they will just go away in time. So you may have to be the enforcer here. He may resist at first, but when it's all said and done my guess he will be thankful to you. At least thats been my experience. You guys are in my prayers also.
Terrible thing going on in Haiti. It sounds like there will be many casulties. My prayers for them.
Albert, my Daughter and her husband on headed your direction this morning. They are going to City of Industry California on business. I'll tell them to honk at you when they drive by.
I see there are many who are now predicting a double dip economic recovery. If thats the case I hope we are all braced for round two. And I hope we can take it better than Barney took Opies punch in the gut when he was braced. I guess there is no need to speak on why a double dip. It is what it is. It p@sses me off though cause it need not have happened. Sorry. My jaw muscle is working this morning.

REV, I am praying for your friends in Haiti. God knows who they are and what the specific needs of each one may be. I'm praying generally, for the dafety and health of all, and for this to be used as an opportunity for Christians to move in and offer help and support, and demonstrate the love of God to the people of that nation, who do indeed live in darkness. Witchery, voodoo and superstition all have a powerful hold on those people, and maybe this will be an opportunity for the people of God to be instrumental in breaking that hold. Please keep us posted as you get word from your friends. --Romeena

Now Boo, don't put me up too high on a pedestal, I know I am not the easiest guy to live with sometimes. I can get moody, and stubborn(maybe that's a man trait, or it could also be the German in me), and I still have that "undecided" moniker that was under my "what do you want to do with your life" section in my Senior yearbook yet to deal with.
I do thank you for the very kind words, though. You are a dear friend.
And Albert, I am glad to be able to count you as a new porch friend. You have some really wise advice there, and I hope to remember it and use it. I tend to be a introverted kind of guy who always over-analyzes everything. But I don't want that to be an excuse not to try to stop always doing that. Thank you caring enough to give me your take on it. I really appreciate it!

Well, if I might ask for another prayer request, we've had two deaths in our little community today. One lady died from congestive heart failure, she was 88 years young, and if there ever was a Godly woman, she was it. You could just feel the Lords spirit around her. Then an elderly man died from Alzheimers. He'd been suffering with it for awhile. Now if I may ask, please pray for a lady up here, the woman that died was her mother, and the man that died was her husband. How sad it must be to loose your mother and husband in the same day. I'm not sure of the time frame in between the two deaths, but still so sad.
Those poor people in Haiti watching the news just breaks my heart I cant imagine how you would even begin to deal with a tragedy like that one. My heart goes out to them, and for the ones trying to work through all that stuff to rescue the ones they can. REV, I hope you hear from your friends soon.

I have not been able to watch the news coverage in Haiti. I just can't. I am praying, though, and they are on my mind.
Today has been one of those painful days, hasn't it? I feel so sorry for so many folks. I didn't hear about the shooting near SPOT's place, but I am getting so very tired of hearing about crazy people with guns shooting innocent folks.
Sterling, I won't put you on a pedastal but I am just saying it the way i see it, friend. You're a real good egg so stop telling us your faults...hehe. ;-) You know I heard something on the radio the other day that I think we should all think about. An author-speaker was being interviewed. She was a dr of psychology and has been on talk shows like dr phil and so on. She was talking about how hard we are on ourselves sometimes. She said that she was asked to sing the National Anthem at a Dodger's game once and was very nervous but consented to do it. She said that the song went beautifully until she got to "..and the rocket's red glare.." and she cracked a note. Well, it reverberated through that stadium and sounded dreadful to her. She managed to finish the song with no further mistakes and everyone praised her over what a good job she did. She was humiliated, though and it bother ALOT for a few days until she thought about it. She had sung 80 words perfectly well when she cracked on the 81st. She said, she didn't think how great it was that she sang the 80+ words well, and had felt like a failure because of only one bad note. It opened her eyes to some wrong attitudes she had about herself. Sometimes we don't want to look at the things we are doing right and the nobility that can me in the everyday serving we do unto others, but we certainly focus on the things we do wrong (which are much fewer than the ones we do right). Just thought I would pass that along...
Got to get Erin to bed. Lets remember each other when we say our prayers tonight, and especially the children of Haiti. God bless Mayberry.

Good morning, porch! I just finished the monthly task I hate the most - paying bills. It just hurts me to see the balance in my account dwindle, and all those checks just flying off to everybody and his cousin. I wish those balances dropped as fast as mine does! Still, it's all covered, and I'm thankful. God is good.
Boo, I want to hear that Bruce has seen a doctor. Your situation there with him is really laying heavy on my heart. This absolutely has to happen. Stand firm, my friend!
My Florida son is in Fredericksburg, and if the weather cooperates, will be coming here over the weekend. He flew his plane to the 'burg, and will be tending to a rental property he owns there. My other son, David, had driven down there on business and took all the Christmas gifts to the kids down there. I hadn't shipped them, because I figured I'd get a chance to freeload a ride for them. Besides, how do you ship an Inchworm? And a drum? The first I knew that Dale, Jr. was there was when he emailed me a picture from his phone, of the baby opening his presents! His way of saying, "Hey Mom, I'm in the 'burg!"
Anyway, if the weather doesn't turn nasty, he'll be up here probably tomorrow, maybe Saturday. He's instrument-rated, but the plane is new to him, and he has had some toys, as he calls them, installed on it that he's still learning about, so he's taking no chances. He said he wants clear skies and no obstacles! I'll vote for that. He's a very good pilot, very cautious, follows the rules, ALWAYS does the pre-flight checks, and I enjoy flying with him. Up until now I've only been in a two-seater with him, and this Beechcraft is bigger - six seats - so it should be a different experience.
Well, I'd better get busy. The Board of Health might condemn my kitchen right now, and my son is Mr. Neat, so I've got work to do. Actually, both of my sons are super-neat, while both girls are a bit more, shall we say, casual. I think I fall somewhere in between. I wonder what causes that?
Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

Wow! Pappa bear, you had a heart attack?? It's good to know you're recovering well, and certainly we'll all be in prayer for your full recovery.
Boo, you've done all you can do. The only thing left for you now is to pray, and trust God to protect him. I understand just a little of the frustration you're feeling, from a battle I had with Dale many years ago. Our situation was not as immediate and urgent, but it was potentially deadly nevertheless.
In those days, he was smoking, 2-3 packs a day, usually closer to 3. I hated it, and was yapping at him to quit. This was at about the time that all the flap over cigarettes causing lung cancer began. As I recall, the packs didn't even have the warning on them yet. Anyway, we argued it back and forth, with him telling me to back off and leave him alone, he'd quit "someday." Finally, I threw it at him that he had given me three children (we didn't have David yet) and he didn't have the right to take chances with his health, chances that could leave me alone with three kids to raise. Those weren't my words, they just came out of my mouth. Anyway, that shot went home, I could tell, so I shut up. He was thinking about it, and then a couple of weeks later something happened that sealed it. Little Heather, about three, came up and grabbed her daddy around the legs to "hug" him, and in so doing she laid her soft little cheek against the lighted cigarette that was in his hand. She screamed and pulled away, and the burning coal from the tip was stuck to her cheek! I think that was the first time I ever saw my big bear of a husband cry. He just felt terrible, and the next day, he put them down and that was the end of it. Oh, it was hard on him for several weeks, but he never picked them up again. Years later, he told me that he had really been hit hard by what I had said to him, and what hurt most was knowing that if he did get lung cancer and die, I would resent him for it forever, because he could have prevented it.
Well, guess I'll go see what I can make out of some leftovers. Got some pretty good fixins in there, half a steak and some lemon/butter/chive new potatoes. Think I'll just dice it all up together and heat it up. I love leftovers!
Prayers for the Haitians, for Bruce, for our mayor and all who need God's tender hand right now. --Romeena

Ro, thank you for sharing what you did. I will have another talk with Bruce, calmly and lovingly and just ask him where I can find copies of his life insur@nce policy and ask him if he has any special requests concerning his burial.
Better go talk to Erin. At the dinner table tonight she was wondering about Martin Luther King and if we would see him in heaven some day. I told her I thought we would and she said, "Well, if WE are there"...that made me ask her some questions. I explained that God wanted her us to know we would be there with Him. She said, "Well, the Lord is in control and it is up to Him." I tried to explain that it is our choice to make. She said she wanted to be baptized and I think I will have a talk with her and share some scripture to see if she can understand. Better scoot...

I just wanted to thank you all again for your prayers.
Had a calmer day today. My wife actually called ME a couple times today after work, and we talked about the trip we are planning.
She told me that "you didn't make me mad today. Do you want to keep talking then?"
I told her no, that I didn't want to mess up a good thing.
I pray that this can be over with very soon. She is planning on coming up with her mom and she will stay at our house for a while(my idea when I was down there), I just don't know when. But I would rather she be here where we can communicate a little better than this over the phone or internet stuff. This long-distance stuff can be trying, especially when you have not always exactly been on the same footing to begin with. I think it is easier to misunderstand and be misunderstood about things when you can't communicate with the whole person.
Pappa Bear, glad you are doing better. You take care of yourself. We need our mayor! It is very good to see you!
I think it is great that Erin is asking those questions, Boo. You have a nice opportunity to share some truth with your little one.

You know, when I am having a difficult with Bruce and his stubborn, negative, critical view of things, I try to think about how I can handle the situation with as much character as possible and try to remember that God can use the situation to make me a better person. Just guard against bitterness because that root of bitterness can cause a whole LOT of trouble for you.
Well, the coffee is gone and the cat is winding himself around my feet wanting outside. I will try to check back later but will be busy with the last of the packing up and I still have windows to clean at the new house. It is supposed to be raining cats and dogs today, unfortunately! Pray it stops tomorrow!

Hey Y'all! Pappa Bear! You get well soon and quit having those heart attacks,ya hear?! Take care and do what the doctors tell you to do.Do you think you can still manage Mayberry or do we need our Lt. Governor to step in? Who IS our Lt. Governor?? I know Ro is the "Queen of the Porch"- we might have to turn the reins over to her until you get better! Y'all don't mind a monarchy,do you?
Boo,still praying Bruce will get on the right track(health wise) before it's too late.
Still a bit cool, but much nicer here in SC today,Rev. I think I will stay home from church and watch your sermon/concert on Sunday.
Well,Andy (nephew) is in the air heading home to Wyoming. I took him to the Charleston airport this morning. We sure enjoyed having him home.I told him right before he boarded that "Home is always here". I think he's coming back over Spring Break.
Continued prayers for Haiti. I cannot fathom what those folks are going through. God help them.
Y'all take care-love to all!

Good mornin'! Just wanted to let you all know that since we are moving, I won't have internet service until Wed at the earliest. We were scheduled for Monday but out beloved builder screwed up and didn't install a certain cable he was supposed to install so it has to be done next week. So...if you don't hear from me for awhile, don't think something is wrong. I will have my sister post for me if anything happens out of the ordinary and I will let you know how Bruce's appointment goes on Tuesday.
Thank you for those prayers, Possum (and everyone). Once we get past today, things will get easier, I hope. Of course once we see the doctor, we have some things to go through, I think.
I was at the house last night putting away some things and standing on that wood floor and my legs started to hurt. It surpised me because I have tile floors here and my legs don't hurt. I guess I will have to get some more rugs. I put some rugs in front of the sink and the stove and I guess that will help. I will get some pics for you all but I seem to have lost the charger to my new camera! I hope the batteries hold out.
Well, better go...some last-minute things to do before the crowd gets here. I enlisted LOTS of help.
Love to All and see ya after Wed.,
Boo
PS-I have a dear friend named John who I think could use friends like you all and I think I will tell him to check out the porch, so if John comes by while I am gone, you'll know who he is. :-)

Morning Family:
Just checking in and wishing Boo safety and speed (in finding her belongings after the move).
Busy on this side of the porch. We are in the January thaw, but still have snow. M-T, if you need those passes for skiing or tubing let me know. The girls can even take ski lessons geared for younger children.
Gotta run and get some cleaning done.
Love you guys. ~New Neighbor

Hey there Saturday porch folks -
First off, prayers going out to all from my West side of the porch (and to those beyond the porch who are in such dire straits these days).
Boo! Thanx for that 411 regarding Sterling. I had already figured him to be a real good guy, but what you wrote confirmed it! I saw some of those pictures in Ro's photo album (sorta hard to gain access to it tho'... ). What a warm and friendly group! Folks AND pets! (the pets pics were extra special because I'm a pet guy all the way!)
Asa! If your daughter and hubby honked, then it got drowned out by all the additional honking by people attending a job expo in Industry! Big rig trucks and trains upped the volume too.
Romeena - that was a sad, but very touching story about little Heather. Tugged at my heart strings.
Sterling - What a beautiful daughter you have!
Pappa Bear - take care, bear! May you enjoy so many more sunrises and sunsets! (I believe you will, for years and years and years to come)
BIG rains coming up this week... *sigh* gonna be a mess out my way...
You all take care! See ya later!

January 16, 2010 - Msg 77257:
Hey there, Albert. I'm sorry you had difficulty getting into the album. Where was the glitch? Obviously you had the address right, since you did get in. Once on the home page, you just click on the "Porchsters, Homes and Families" album cover. When that opens, you'll see that the first dozen or so pictures are actually sub-album covers. You can tell because they're underlined. The title of the sub-albums will tell you what to expect inside. I set it up that way so that the general album wouldn't be jillions of pictures long. Anyone who submits ten or more pictures gets a sub-album.
I just knew you'd be a pet lover. You can just tell! What's your preference - dogs? Cats? Birds? Everything? If you have a favorite pet you'd like us to meet, just email me a picture and I'll get it in the album. That's Romeena at tx dot rr dot com. Just put it all together - you know the drill. (Helps to fool the bots.)
Well, guess I'll go clean up my kitchen. How on earth does it get so dirty, when there's no one here but me and Toye Starr? Guess I'm just naturally messy, but I hate a dirty kitchen, and it has passed my tolerance point. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

Howdy porch, been snowed in here on this little TN ridge of ours. Today was the first really warm day we have had in weeks. Melted alot of the snow off, thank goodness, now you should see the mess.
I see lots of prayers are needed, & please know I will add them to my list. Boo I am so excited that you are finally moving, hurray!
And how do you do Albert nice to meet ya!
Everyone here has been doing great, hubby hurt his foot a couple weeks ago, but he is back to normal now. Any old who, Tom told me that Spot had put out an apb on me & I didn't want y'all to run all over town 4-10ing everywhere.

Hey to SPOT! (that manwich over toast sounds good. its 10:56pm over my way and I just checked the cupboard for some manwich.... only got the bread... no manwich to put it on...
Romeena - I've only ever had were dogs, tho' all types of pets are a-ok with me. (well... I'll pass on tarantulas in terrariums!) I think the glitch came from the choice of search engines. One would lead me back to here (the Front Porch) time and time again. Anyways, I'll send a test message to that address to make sure I'm at the right place.
Pleasant dreams, porchers!

Wasn't that great?? I stayed home from preachin' at my own church, and went to services at the Salvation Saloon, via internet! Awesome! REV, you were just terrific! You couldn't hear me, but I was your one-voice "choir", singing along with you right here at my desk, because I know almost every one of those songs, from your albums. The whole experience was a blessing, and I thank you for letting us know about it. Now, if the show is archived, then we can direct porchsters who didn't catch it this morning, so they can pick it up later.
