October 01, 2009 - Msg 75413: Good afternoon, porch! I have great news - just talked with Heather, and the doc took the chest tube out this morning, the lung held, and she may get to go home this evening! She says she feels great, looks a little the worse for wear with bruises and such, but feels good.

She has no memory of the accident, and is learning bits and pieces as time goes by. The husband of one of her friends was an EMT that worked the accident, and Heather has learned that he literally crawled into the car and lay in the wreckage with her, calming and talking to her while they CUT HER OUT of the car! We had no idea they had to cut her out of it. My family was given a gift last Monday afternoon, of that there is no doubt. Thank you all again for your prayers for her recovery. She's great!

REV, you can be sure I'll be praying for Mrs. Rev - I've heard you speak of her enough that I feel like I know her. Please give her my best wishes, and assure her that I'll be praying for her recovery.

Boo, that's so sad about that child, who died of the flu. This flu thing is so scary. Still, it has to be kept in perspective. For everyone in America who died of the flu this week, how many died in alcohol-related accidents? We're all in a panic about the flu, but next to nothing is done to curb the mayhem on our roads. Then there are people who rush to get a flu shot, but continue to smoke. It makes no sense. I don't mean to minimize the flu and its tragic consequences - I just think we need to examine our priorities. The incidence of flu-related deaths in the U.S. population will almost certainly be one in thousands. The incidence of lung cancer deaths in the smoking population is about one in ten. Moral of the story - get a flu shot (or be very careful if you worry about the shots), and quit smoking! Live long and prosper!

Well, off I go. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

Prayers for Mrs. Rev,as well.
Thank you Ro,for sharing the good news about Heather! Prayers continuing, friend.

Well, we've had another go 'round with Mama. Her foot never got any better, red & swollen, even on antibiotics, fever of 103 last night. So,surgery sister & I spent a good part of the afternoon trying to get her to go to the hospital. In an ambulance, because we can't pick her up if she falls. No,didn't want that.Wanted my daughter to come from 35 miles away, pick her up,take her back 35 miles to the hospital.I told daughter not to play those games with her, that if we had to,I would drive her to hospital. No,didn't want me. It's ALWAYS something with her when it comes to me and I have finally had it,folks. I left.
She never would consent to going by ambulance,so a neighbor took her. Now a neighbor has been swept up into her game playing,or whatever it is.
Before I left, I spoke my mind to her, told her that either she was going to love me or hate me and if she ever decided that she was going to be a decent parent to me,that I would always be her daughter and to call me and tell me she's going to quit treating me this way. Nobody else gets the abuse from her-just me. It is very undeserved. And it hurts.
So,Mama is in the hospital of her choice, where she is getting IV antibiotics.Word is that her foot would have been amputated in the next few days, had she not gotten further treatment. All this because she "fell down" trying to get surgery sister to come over & give her some attention. Mad? Oh,yes,I am. This didn't need to happen!
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. And my poor sister, who has been trying to get over Achilles tendon surgery, but because of Mama's antics, has had very little rest & lots of stress. Oh,and say one for me too, would you? I am really catching it and all I'm trying to do is be helpful to everyone. I can't take much more.
Thanks,y'all.

Yes REV, sometimes you just know that something is just for you...a little "I'm here and I love you" from God. I am praying for Mrs. REV.

MDC, I finally heard from Me-They today. He has been very busy at work and was finally able to email me on facebook. He and the family are doing fine. I wish I could send that picture I was talking about...you have my email address, so if you send me your cell phone number, I could send it to your phone. You would probably have to zoom it, though, to make it out. I would send it to Ro for the album if i knew how. Maybe it's just me, but I think it is pretty clear. I know Sean saw it right away and seconds after I took the picture, the image was gone, so I got it at just the exact moment because those clouds were moving rapidly.

PRAISE THE LORD! So glad Heather is doing so well. God is good!

So sorry that you are in that situation, Possum. My prayers for you and your family, for certain. May the Lord strengthen and guide you in how to best serve your family, while taking care of yourself, too. Love ya, Possie.

Well, speaking of moms and hospitals, I have to have my mom at the hospital by 7am for another attempt at the elusive pacemaker! Better head to bed soon. Love to all my porch friends....you are appreciated, cared about, and treasured more than you might know! xxxx

October 02, 2009 - Msg 75421: Good morning, porch! I just talked to Heather. She didn't get to go home last night, because an x-ray taken several hours after the tube was removed showed a tiny bit of free air in her chest, and they wanted to be sure the lung wasn't still leaking. The doc said it probably got in from the outside when he removed the tube (it often does) but he wanted to be sure. So, another x-ray this morning shows no change - therefore, she's going home. Her little boy, Trip, has the flu (not swine flu) and I'm a little concerned about her going home, but there's no stopping her now. Trip is better, but not over it. His Aunt Laura (his dad's sister) has been there taking care of him, bless her, and she'll be there for a couple more days to help Heather.

Possum, my heart just breaks for you. Why are some people so contrary? I remember the problems you've had with your mama from years back, and it seems she's just getting worse. I think you've done the right thing, by simply removing yourself from the situation for a while. It's not like you're abandoning her to be alone. She has others to help her, and if they choose to allow her to abuse and manipulate them, then that's their problem. They know where to find you, should it become necessary. Somewhere along the line, finally, you have to take care of you. I think you've made the right choice.

Well, gotta run. Plumber will be here shortly to unclog my sewer line. It's not completely clogged, but is very slow, and I surely wouldn't want to run the washer right now. It would never carry it. I know where the problem is, it's in the main line from the house to the street. It clogs up every year about this time, after tiny tree roots have invaded the line and grown all summer. I can have the pipe lined with PVC and stop the problem, at a cost of about $1600 and a torn-up yard, or I can have it cleaned out once a year, at $80 a trip. Guess which one I'm doing!

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

"Rest in peace," and though we grieve,

Our faith is such that we believeThat all of us shall meet again.
"Rest in peace," the drums are still,

And now forever your to keep
The golden prize that you have won.
Against the sunrise on the hill,
Your colors wave upon the breeze,
With shield of honor, lance of truth,
You overcame with suck as these.
No dirge of sorrow shall we play,
For one who goes to meet the Lord.
Could but we all be Heaven's,
Asyou recive your just reward.
Dear blessed sleep that merely marks
The ending of a holy quest,

October 02, 2009 - Msg 75428: Spot

October 02, 2009 - Msg 75429: OK...what about SPOT??

Very nice poem, TOM...thanks.

Well, guess what? Mom didn't get the pacemaker AGAIN. We took her to the hospital, they started an IV, took her back and did what they call a "tilt test" on her. We sat in the waiting room for over an hour when the cardiologist who specialized in pacemakers (so they say) came and got us and told us that he didn't think she needed a pacemaker, even though her pulse was 35 when she got to the hosptial. It was running in the 70's at the time of the test. He said she is having blood pressure problems and that when her pressure is down, feels bad...not because of the heart rate. When I tried to ask him a question about it, his face turned red, he seemed agitated and said, "I don't know who it is that is making you all focus on the low heart rate, but that's not the problem"...I stopped him and said, "A caridologist in YOUR group suggested this course of treatment". I didn't like the guy at all..it was my first time to meet him. Anyway, when I went to the recovery room to sign mom out, the nurse said, "I'm sorry, the other nurses and I can't figure out why he wouldn't do the pacemaker. We think she needs it.". The doc seemed to think it was a neurological problem..sure it could be damage to the area of the brain that effects BP and heart rate, but the treatment would be a pacemaker. It doesn't make any sense to me. Of course your blood pressure is going to be low if your heart rate is 35. I could tell right away that this doctor is not someone I wanted taking care of mom. I just hate that she was put through this whole process twice for nothing. So..now on to another cardiologist for a second opinion.

Tired from getting up at 5 to get mom to the hospital by 7. It is really hard for her to even make a short trip away from home. She requires a wheelchair, and I have to lift her in and out of my car. It is not an easy process for anybody. Oh well, that's just the way it is.

MDC, I finally saw some news footage (or should I say fottage?) of the devastation in Indonesia and in the Philippines. So sad to think of thousands missing. They do need our prayers!

Hey SPOT, you sure have been a busy dog lately. Seems like we just don't hear enough from you these days. I went out to the homesite today and they are putting up the sheetrock, which is good to see. Progress is being made but not fast enough for me.

I think I will go to bed. I am ready for that soft, wonderful bed that I am so thankful for. With so many in the world without a soft place to lay their heads at nice, I am very blessed. Prayers for the world and the innocent children who suffer due to the consequences of sin in our world.

Boo

October 03, 2009 - Msg 75430: Well, good grief, Boo! I've never heard of such a thing. I'm not a cardiac nurse, but in my opinion that doctor was making no sense at all. A pacemaker is indicated anytime the heart rate is insufficient, regardless of the cause. A heart rate of 35 is barely compatible with life, and he should know that. Absolutely - get another doc involved, and get another opinion. I would also be having a little chat with the cardiologist who originally recommended the pacer, tell him exactly what that nut said, and ask him to explain it. If this is the "electrician" that the cardiology group is using, they need to know that he's not backing them up.

Heather is home, feeling pretty good, all things considered. Very sore, new bruises and sore spots showing up every day, but the lung is holding, and she's glad to be home. Trip (the baby with the flu) is recovering well, and it looks like things will be fine. Thanks so much for all the prayers - appreciated by all concerned, for sure. The prayers of good friends are like gold.

October 03, 2009 - Msg 75432: Mavis, concerning the house, I forgot to mention that now that the sheetrock is up in the bedrooms, Sean and Erin's rooms look small to me. I sure wanted them to have bigger rooms but we put used the square "fottage" we could afford in the living areas. We just couldn't afford to make the rooms bigger without making the living room smaller and since the kids don't spend much room in their rooms, I guess it will be ok. We will also have the extra room upstairs that they can spend time in and Erin can play and keep some of her toys up there. Turns out there is a salesman who works for a flooring/tile place in town that knows our builder well and he gave us a fantastic price on the food flooring we wanted and is supposed to give us a price on the countertops. The cabinets are being built and they are almost finished putting the beadboard on the ceiling of the porches...it looks so neat...like an old house. Can't wait to see it painted. I guess I am going to have to go buy another camera. The one I dropped in water is still not working, and i need to be getting some pictures for you all.

Mavis, I am excited about your new kitchen! Now you will have a great place to do all your baking.:-)

Well, Ro, I agree with you. I am calling Dad's cardiologist on Monday to try to get her in ASAP. What is sad is that there are 3 large cariologist groups in Corpus and they are all swamped with patients. Lots of heart disease out there!

October 03, 2009 - Msg 75435: Good morning, porch! And thank you, Lord, for a perfectly beautiful day. It's sunny and bright, but just 69 degrees. Eloise and I are taking Hudson (our youngest grandson) to his baseball game, then will bring him back to Irving and we'll all attend the Walk to Remember. That's the annual event that MEND holds, to honor and remember the babies lost by the members. Brittney and David are on the board of directors, and work very hard to make this event come off each year. It's precious, sad and inspiring, all at the same time. The big finale is the release of pink, blue or white balloons, each with a message written by the lost baby's family. It's quite a sight to see several hundred balloons floating up toward Heaven.

Boo, don't worry about those bedrooms. They're probably bigger than they look. When they first start enclosing the rooms, everything suddenly looks much smaller. Besides, if they are a bit small, you still made the right choice to put the fottage in the living areas. Why be squeezed in together in the living room, under each other's feet, while big bedrooms sit empty? We did the same thing, and it was fine. The rooms are small, but they worked, and they still serve well as guest rooms.

What does it mean when my monitor takes about twenty tries to turn it on? I usually turn it off when I'm not using it, but now when I turn it back on, it flicks on, then off again. I see just a glimpse of the screen, then it goes black. Turn it off and back on - same thing. Each time it's taking longer to get it to "catch" and stay on. Took about thirty tries this morning. I'm not going to turn it off anymore, I guess. Does this mean I need a new monitor? I hope not!

Mavis, great news about your cabinets! I know how anxious you are to get everything finished and settled. We girls like to get our nest made, don't we?

Andelina, it's good to see you. Please don't stay away so long. We miss our Mayberry folks when they're not coming around.

Well, gotta run. Toye Starr doesn't know I'm leaving yet, she will be chapped, poor little girl. I've got a new toy for her though, that she hasn't seen. That'll pacify her a little bit.

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

October 03, 2009 - Msg 75436: Thanks Romeena, I'm sure the rooms will be fine. There is plenty room for queen beds, dressers, etc. and the closets are good sized. Sean has a nice walk-in closet in his room that I plan on having some shelfs built in to hold clothes and shoes. Erin will have a built in dresser/armoire thing in one corner so she got the smaller closet. I don't plan on putting a TV in Erin's room and we don't allow computers in their rooms, so I don't expect them to be in there alot, except to sleep. We will have a room for the computer, in which, the computer screen can be clearly seen from the living room.

Sounds like you are going to have a great day..wish it were cool here. That cool front didn't quite make it this far. The wind shifted for a couple of hours and then it backed up again due to the southeast wind. (boo hoo). I cannot WAIT for cooler weather!

My aunt was happy to hear that-she said she had planned to tell me that it is hard to live with regrets & she was going to suggest I take the high road. I told her that her message got through to me because "it was her heart, speaking to my heart",like Briscoe Darling told Aunt Bee! My aunt is a TAGS fan,so she got a laugh from that!
The latest news about my mama is that the last drug they put her on wasn't working, but a disease specialist told her she wasn't going to lose any part of her foot. Up until then, only surgeons had been looking at her,& you know they want to cut.
So.. we have some hope. don't know how they plan to treat this infection, but I pray they can.Keep praying,please.Thanks.
So glad that Heather is recovering well.

October 03, 2009 - Msg 75441: Good evening, all. Eventful day - we got halfway through the Walk to Remember for MEND, about half the babies' names had been called and their families had hung their ornament on the memorial tree, when the heavens opened and the rain came down! All five hundred or so people scrambled to gather up children, cameras and belongings and we returned to the church building and continued the ceremony in the sanctuary. The rain stopped long enough to allow us to do the balloon release outdoors, and then it began again, but by then it was all just about over.

Possum, I'm glad to hear that you're trying to work it out with your mom. You'll be glad you did, I'm sure. The high road is always best. You may still need to remove yourself from the scene now and then, but return if you can when she settles down. I'm glad you've found a doctor who isn't in a big hurry to cut on that foot. There are usually options, at least things that can be tried first. Hyperbaric treatment is becoming more popular, and has a decent success rate. It's useful for sores that won't heal. I don't know if it would apply in your mom's case.

Well, I'm off to bed. Pretty tired. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

October 04, 2009 - Msg 75444: Good evening, porch. I was supposed to work tonight, but the census is down, we had four nurses scheduled and only needed two. So, when they offered cancellation, I took it, and so did another nurse who is just a few years younger than I am. We're supposed to rotate these cancellations, with everyone taking their share. However, the two who are working are both single mothers, sole support of their kids. So, since we older ones usually don't mind a night of rest anyway, we just let the younger ones work if they want to, so they don't get a short check. Works out well for all concerned.

Possum, sounds like your mom really messed that foot up. She did that in one of her little tantrums, didn't she? Poor thing, and poor you. It's really rough when parents reach the point that the roles have to reverse. I guess I was really blessed. My mom was "with it" 100% right up until her death, and my dad was the most cooperative Alzheimer's patient I've ever seen. He had his moments, but about 98% of the time, he was just so sweet.

Well, guess I'll go watch some more of the "I Love Lucy" marathon on Hallmark. It has been fun today. I noticed something this time, though. I've seen all those episodes at least a hundred times, and just now spotted this particular error. It's the ep where Lucy and Ricky have just moved into the country house, and the first night they get homesick for Ethel and Fred, so they head for the city to see them. At the same time, Ethel and Fred take the train out to see them. Comedy of errors takes place, very funny, but the thing I noticed is that no mention is made of little Ricky. Lucy and Ricky just decide to go to the city, and pick up and leave, and little Ricky is never mentioned again. They don't take him along, and there is no babysitter. Hmmmm.

I just spoke with Heather, she's still doing well. Sore and bruised, gets exhausted very easily, and still has a headache (small concern there, since she did have a concussion) but I think she's fine. God is good.

Well, guess I'll go find something to eat. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

CPS got her a place to stay at a type of half-way house for women in Corpus. She is doing pretty well but is having trouble finding a job, which is not surprising these days. She has applications out and keeps applying but nothings so far. She is supposed to go for an interview at the omni tomorrow, for a housekeepers position and could use our prayers about it. Anyway, she called me this week and wanted to go to church so I picked her up this morning. The area of town she is living in is one of those gang and drug infested areas, unfortunately but it is a decent place for her to live right now. I kept her with me all day and we had a really nice time. I am not convinced that she is alcohol free yet but I know she is attending her AA meetings and seems strong and determined. She is from the Dallas area, Ro, and was talking about how she has been in Parkland Hospital, so naturally I thought of you...I know you don't work at Parkland but somewhere not far from there, right?

Possum, so sorry about your mom. That is very sad and I pray the foot will heal soon. Hang in there and keep us updated.

Been a long day and I think I will curl up with a book for a bit. See you all in the morning with my coffee.:-)

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75448: Good evening, porch. Yep, MDC, I think it's the power switch too. Time for a flat screen? This IS a flat screen!! At least I suppose that's what it is - it's less than two inches thick, and is 19" diagonally. I don't really want a bigger one, because it will block too much of my view of the yard. This one gets in the way as it is. In fact, I'm considering moving it to one side, at an angle, and see if I can be comfortable that way. I can mouse with either hand, and all the components are cordless, so that helps. I really don't want to spend the money on a monitor right now, so I think I'll just leave it on and get all the mileage out of it that I can.

Boo, you're right, I'm just a short distance from Parkland. The Parkland complex is just across the Trinity river and a couple of miles in toward Dallas from me. I've never had a desire to work there. During nursing school, I had a rotation there, and that place is just waaaay yonder too big for me! Too impersonal. I like the atmosphere of a smaller hospital. We've got about 225 beds where I work, and that's enough. I hope things go well for Michelle, and may God bless you for what you do with those girls.

My stars! It's just 59 degrees here, has rained intermittently all day, and more predicted for tomorrow. I'm loving this weather!! I especially love the "sound of silence", as the a/c is NOT running. 'Bout time!

Well, I'm off to bed. Joe and Jorge are scheduled to be here tomorrow to weed, prune and plant, but doubt it will happen. Too wet. Still, just in case, I need to get up at a decent hour, so I can brush my teeth and find my socks before they get here. (heehee) Be blessed, all. --Romeena

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75449: Ro, it has been SO hot and humid here! I so wish it would cool off because it feels worse now than it did a month ago; just draining. You know, I used to work with OB docs that trained at Parkland and they always had some stories to tell about the place. They got alot of experience with high risk patients there. Lots of no prenatal care, etc. I think it would be a great place to work if I was 20 years younger, but not now! I'll bet they work their tail ends off in that OB unit there. Oh, and thanks..it is really not a chore when you love doing something.

You know Ro, in the new house we will have an office area at the front of the house with two big windows but they will be to the side of me while I'm at the computer. Guess i will have to look sideways now and then. I have already been seeing some hummingbirds out there but no squirrels...not sure why. I have never seen a squirrel on the place. Maybe because there is a hawk that we see out there now and then.

Better get Erin up and going...see you all later, between trips to the washing machine.

Boo

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75450: Good morning everyone. A beautiful day here. Just wanted you all that I think of you all often and y'all are in my prayers.

ROMEENA: Very early in that episode they mention that Little Ricky is spending the night next door with Bruce Ramsey. The mention may have gotten cut for the time slot (as TAGS does). However, I know it's there on the DVDs.

Have a great week!

Me-They

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75451: Hey Boo I'm up, where's my coffee? I need coffee. I never have been a big fan of getting up early, but they are due back to finish up my kitchen today, at least that's the plan, keep yer fingers crossed that they do. I am so ready to have my kitchen & besides, I have 2 starters of Amish Friendship bread that is due to be baked on the 7th.
Well folks, gonna get off here & try to wake myself up a little before Roger & Pam get here. I've got one of my little furkids under vet's care right now if ya'll think to during the day today, please send up a little prayer for her. She is a 14 y/0 Mini Dachshund and she is beginning to go downhill. We can't find the exact cause of her problems, but we suspect her back. She has lost use of one of her back legs and is urinating alot, but the x-rays aren't showing anything, nor is the bloodwork. She's the little girl that I rescued from an abuse situation, she had 6 litters of puppies by the time she was 5 y/o! Anyway, I'm a little worried about her & I'm afraid it's nearing time for her to cross over to the Rainbow Bridge. Thanks ya'll.

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75452: Mornin' y'all & thanks again for the support. till have no idea what the course of action will be for my mom. I'll let you know when I do.
I watched some of the Lucy marathon,& like Me-They said, little Ricky & his little dog Fred spent that first night with the Ramseys. I remember him being in a few more of the country episodes too-can't recall the names, but I do recall that.Oh,the one where Fred rigs up an intercom between Lucy's house & the guesthouse that the Mertzes are living in-that's one Little rcky was in.
Well, spot has abandoned us as our cook,so it seems,so I'll treat everyone to Waffle House. I'll send Asa around to pick everyone up-see y'all there!

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75456: good morning everyone... great sweep rev- well haloween is near and christmas and thanksgiving. my point is with family like we have here there is so much to be thankful for. i saw an intersesting story this morning-- a man was asleep at three in the morning when the doorbell rang. getting up he goes to the door where a drunk stood in the pouring rain. he asked if the man would give him a push.. the man said are you crazy its pouring rain and 3am. when the man returned to bed he relayed the story to his wife. she reminded him of all the help they had recieved over the years. so the man gets up goes outside in the rain and asks if the drunk still needed a push. the drunk said yes and when the man said where are you -- the drunk said over here on the swing.... made me think of otis.. well mdc and possum and everyone have a great week. papa bear

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75457: Good morning, everyone! Me-They, thanks for clearing that up about little Ricky. Possum says it was there in the eps on the marathon, so guess I just missed it. Actually, I wasn't concerned about whether little Ricky was left off the show, I was just wondering if they had left the poor kid home alone that night! He did continue on, and was in nearly all the country eps.

Mavis, I will pray for your little doxie, and for you as you apparently are going to have to make The Big Decision. I know how tough that is, believe me. I still get tearful when I think of my little Plum, and even though I have this small dynamo here to make me laugh, I miss my precious girl.

Boo, some parts of the country just don't seem to support squirrels as much as other areas do. Joe says where he lives, out in the country, he sees a squirrel once in a while, but not often. Rabbits, coyotes, armadillos, and possums are frequent visitors, but very few squirrels. Where he lives it's not heavily wooded, though - mostly open pasture land. I know you have trees - what kind are they, mostly?

Well, I'm off to get a few things done around here. The cruise is next week! Wow, it's almost time. Wish you were all going too. Spot kept talking like he and Miss Sherry might go, but guess they're not. Too bad. That would really have been fun. Floyd, Eloise and I will see you next week!!

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75458: Morning Porch.
That's funny papabear. I can see Otis doing that too. Good to see you and Me They here.

Hey Mavis. You won one yesterday. Zorn may be safe for another week. Prayers for your puppy. You know my love affair with them Doxies. Keep us posted.

Hope your Moms foot will heal up Possum. Dang, that sounds sore. Hope you're doing ok too.

MDC, I have no time for trivial trialities! (in other words, I ain't got a clue to your quiz)

Better get going I reckon. Took a day off work to get some things done here. Guess I better go do em.

Asa

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75459: MDC,I'm taking a guess at your trivia question: I'll say it was "Convicts At Large". I believe the 'Al dances with Sally' dialogue mentioned the Cascade Club. Am I right? What do I win? I don't need a ceramic pelican-make it something good! Ha!

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75460: The Cascade Club is mentioned in Convicts at Large, MDC...

Howdy all - good to see so many here hanging around on the porch today. Those APB's must be working, 'cause here I am. AFD in the flesh.

Been a busy last few weeks, what with school and church, and I had gone out of town for a few days last week. Also having some personal issues I've been dealing with, too. Anywho, it's good to be here and I have skimmed through the archives a little bit. Know that you all and the things you're dealing with are in my prayers.

Asa I didn't get to see the game, I "watched" it on nfl.com & it didn't look like a pretty win, but a win is a win.

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75465: Hey porch, hope everyone is well this Monday afternoon. Been a busy few days but back to work today. weather has certainly turned to fall on my end of the porch. Thanks for the potato soup Mavis. just what I needed today. I have had a toothache all day today and think I may have cracked one of my back teeth. OUCH. Guess I will have to break into the bank and go to the dentist. I HATE going to the dentist, probably worse than to any other doctor on the planet. hopefully it will stop hurting and I won't have to go. will check back later. Big Maude

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75466:
Oh, if any of you get Dicovery channel, on tonight
is a show about our Sheriff Arpiao's chain gang program. I read that it is pretty good, and believe me, these guys get rehabilitated!
MDC

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75467: Great to see some folks back that have been missing! "Hey" to pappa bear, AFD, and Maude.

Wish I could watch Discovery channel tonight, MDC. I would love to see that...wonder if I will be back from rehab?

So sorry about you sick pooch, Mavis. Poor little thing. My dad was over today with his chubby little old weinie dog. She is practically blind but can still manage to jump into Dad's lap with just a little bit of help. I hate to think of the day when she is too old or sick to make it. She's dad's best friend.

Well, better start thinking about getting ready to go. Ya'll send up a prayer for the girls, if you can. Thanks!

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75468: Just looked at TVGuide and the show you mentioned is on at 9pm, my time, so I think I can catch it...hope I remember?

Boo

October 05, 2009 - Msg 75469: Good evening, porch. No, MDC, I didn't buy the extended warranty. I never do, it's just a point of annoyance to me. It's almost like they're saying "we know our product is crummy and will wear out in about two years, but if you'll pay us enough, we'll take the gamble with you." Actually this monitor is at least three years old, but it's been a good one. It's a Samsung. I've always used ViewSonic, have had about three or four of those, but my computer guru advised against them when I bought this Samsung, something about them not being up to their usual standard. So, who knows? I'll just hang in there with this one until I can't turn it on one of these days, and then I'll run down to Best Buy and get something else. I'm glad they're plug-and-go these days, self-installing, no hassle to replace.

Hey, AFD, it's good to see you. Whatever your present challenges are, know that we'll pray for things to work out for the best, and we're here if you need us.

Well, I'm pooped. I think I'll set the DVR to record that show about Sheriff Joe (I love him!) and hit the ironing board. Much to do tomorrow. Be blessed, friends. Toye Starr says how-do. --Romeena

Spot glad to see you home, I'm glad you had a good time camping, will this be your last trip of the year, or is it still warm enough in GA to go a couple more times? Asa you're a bird in this world! Boo did you get to see that show on Discovery channel? I missed it too much going on last night. Well, let me get out of this rocker & see what if anything I can get accomplished today.

Ro- I don't have cable. Was the show any good?

MDC

October 06, 2009 - Msg 75477: Yes, the show was very good. It shows the upside and the downside of Sheriff Joe's administration. To my surprise, his recidivism rate is about the same as the rest of the country, or so they said. I thought his was much lower. He really has some hard cases in that jail.

I believe that was Nathan Tibbs who ran eight miles in the snow.

Well, Eloise is here, we're going to go hunt up some lunch, and then this afternoon I may go with my son to get in some practice with my pistol. I haven't fired that brute yet, need to get familiar with it.

Be blessed, all. --Romeena

October 06, 2009 - Msg 75478:
Bingo! That is correct! 8 miles to the bridge to burn it down! That is why today an 8 mile race is known as a "mar-a-berry!" LOL
Regarding Sheriff Joe, his recidivism rate IS lower. Not sure why they said not. Figures here in the county show it. hmmm
I think I mentioned one time that my own brother spent 6 mos. there for extreme DUI, and he basically said, "I will never be there again!"
During his stay in tent city he started AA and
has been sober ever since. We had tried for several years to get him to do it, but only a swamp-cooled tent during an AZ summer knocked some sense into him!
Prayers continue for your daughter.
Boo- how was rehab?
God bless, all.
Jesus loves me, this I KNOW!(:
MDC

October 06, 2009 - Msg 75479: I missed the show last night. Too bad :-(

Cool about your brother, MDC! Rehab was good. We met a couple of really sweet new girls that I think will continue to attend. Thanks for asking.
