Boo- If you havent already been doing it, I suggest that you take lots of photos of those "skeleton" walls before they put on the wallboard. That way, if you ever want to remove a wall or add something on etc, you can see exactly where the studs, wiring, etc are at. Just an idea. Also pix of the ceiling joists running across, in case you want to put in ceiling fans, etc later. Also, I suggest "batting" insulation as opposed to blown in. If you have to go
in the attic, that blown in stuff is a brutal environment to work in. (Can you tell that I have it in my house?) Just trying to wire for a ceiling fan had me itching for a week!

Y'all,I have NO idea why my brother in law didn't plan things through with this move out West. I thought he was full of smarts, but after finding out that he didn't even have a cell phone on him when they departed knocked him WAY down on the smart-o-meter! Yes,that's right. He drove the big U-Haul truck,my nephew (a novice driver) drove his truck for him, and my sister, the girls & dog drove her vehicle.Brother in law heading the way out West with no communication device on him! My nephew had a flat tire (I don't know where they were-I think still East of the Missisippi River) and here's B-I-L trucking about 10 miles ahead of them! He finally notices he doesn't see them behind him & finds a pay phone. Andy & my sis both had cell phones, but not him! They did purchase walkie talkies after that incident. Y'all just pray please! Poor kids! We haven't heard from them today- guess they are still house hunting. Will keep ya posted. It's nuts!

Ha! Thanks, MDC. Interesting little bio there. It asks about the other "Flo" of vintage TV - that would be Flo who waited tables in Mel's Diner, on "Alice". Miss Florence Jean Castleberry was played by Polly Holliday, and her catchphrase was "Mel, kiss mah grits!", with each word given about three syllables. I loved her!
Well, Boo, I should have known that Bruce would have seen to the counseling for the ones involved in that earlier problem. I'm sorry that the pastor is leaving everything up to Bruce, though. He shouldn't have to do those things, it should come from the shepherd.
Possum, that whole Wyoming trip sounds like a recipe for disaster, and I'd bet a cookie that by this time next year the whole thing will be a memory. I just feel sorry for BIL - he's going to have a very large plate of crow to eat. Your sister has an opportunity here to "stand by her man", make it easier for him to toss in the towel and come home, and if she does, she's an angel. By supporting him now, she is creating a climate in which he can "decide" to quit without losing too much face. If he has to face a chorus of "I told you so", it may never happen.
Well, gotta go to work. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

What a night.
My daughter had just come out of her room and we were all in the living room, watching Everybody Loves Raymond, laughing and minding our own business, when we heard six gunshots outside. There was one shot, a 3-second gap, another shot, another 3-second gap, then 4 shots in rapid succession. (You have to realize, in our yuppie, suburban neighborhood, gunfire is something we never even think about. Heck, I thought it was fireworks!)
A few minutes later, my daughter went to her room to get something and discovered that a 9mm slug had ripped through her window, through her blinds, shot across the room, and embedded into a stud behind the sheet rock next to her closet.
We had 5 cops in the house tonight, writing the report, taking photos and examining the inside and outside of the house. They determined exactly where the bullet came from - this blanketyblank lives right behind us! The police were called a couple months ago for someone in that same house firing a gun, but the residents of the house in question claimed they "didn't hear anything."
I'm feeling such a mix of emotions, I can't describe it - fear, furious anger, sadness.. and a morbid thought that keeps haunting me: "What if it had happened 5 minutes before?" Due to the layout of the room and the fact that she had just been working out in the middle of that room and the path of the bullet, my daughter would have been hit. No doubt about it. Now she's sleeping in the living room, and we're paranoid about walking in front of a window in our own home.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I realize that there are folks who have it worse than this - years ago we rented a house in a neighborhood where gunfire was an everyday occurrence, and in fact there were two killings the very week we moved out of that he**hole - but this is just way too close to home. I'll never again read accounts of drive-bys with the attitude that this is the kind of thing that only happens to "them."

Said she doesn't like living in the motel. I found a pic of it online- looks like a corner warehouse or bowling alley. Don't think I'd enjoy living there either.Bet they are all in one room-the motel offers Family rooms with one queen, one double, one twin, microwave & small fridge. Five people and a dog= FUN! Good grief, De§, that's awful! Are the police doing anything about it? That nut needs to be disarmed and jailed, for a very long time. Are you inside the city limits? What kind of screwball nut job does something like that? I understand, to the extent that understanding is possible, about the drive-by, drug-related shootings. At least you can see a motive, idiotic though it may be. But for someone to just fire a gun through the back of your house, for no reason at all, is insanity. I'd be tempted to file charges for assault with a deadly weapon, and reckless endangerment, for openers. In today's liberal courts, you probably wouldn't get anywhere, but at least you'd give him a little grief. Of course, all he has to do is deny that he owns the gun, and if that fails, sob out a story about his mother being mean to him, and he'd get off, but it's worth a try. How about a hidden surveillance camera, trained on his house? (Sorry, my goofy brain takes something like this and runs with it.)
I'm a bit ticked off at the situation at work. I have worked there thirty years, have probably started five thousand IVs in that time, and now I have to go spend a morning in Day Surgery, until I've started four IVs for them, demonstrating "proper technique". Presumably my technique will be judged by some little twit about three months out of nursing school. No, it's not just me, it's everyone in our department. Seems a couple of the L&D nurses complained because a couple of our postpartum nurses asked them to start an IV for them. They had to tear themselves away from their computer game, and they resented it. Well, I resent this. It's an insult, and I don't like it. Yes, I'll be paid for the time, but that's not the point. I'll get up at 5 a.m., show up there at 6 a.m., pop four IVs in and leave, and I hope they'll be satisfied. It's always something. Tonight, I'm on my way back to the hospital for a unit conference. It will last about twenty minutes, will cover things already covered in email, and that's that. I like my manager personally, but she sure does do some annoying things at times.
Well, enough griping. Guess I'll go on to the meeting. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

Boy Romeena, you sound so much like me in job gripes. It seems every couple of years we have to jump through a bunch of hoops to satisfy some pencil pushing pin head that we are capable in doing our jobs. It doesn't seem to matter that we are and have been doing the job every day for 30 years. You have to do so under some pencil necked twit who needs to be justified in keeping a job. These are usually young just graduated college kids who themselves have never done the job, but suppose to moniter you, and tell you how to do it better. It sets me off also. Now you got that vein in my neck bulging.
Golf was fun yesterday Hazel. I didn't shoot 100, but it wasn't due to lack of trying. :) Maybe next week.
Well I think I might polish my bullets today. I heard there was a Glenn Ford picture show starting at the Grand next week. And that always gets folks riled up. Better get some screws for my gun while I'm at it. The last time this happened they threatend to confiscate my gun. I'd feel naked without it. And I always thought the mold on my bullets showed character, but some folks like em nice and shiney.
Well better go see about getting some vittles in me. I'm hungry as an old buzzard. Where's Peg when I need her?

G'morning, porch. Yeah, Asa, this nonsense at work is really irritating. It's always something, just about every month. For someone who only works two nights a week, I somehow manage to be clocked in about four times a week, sometimes just for fifteen minutes or so. It gets old for me, and I live ten minutes away. Imagine how the nurses must feel who live an hour or more away. It's not fair.
Well, today begins The Great Experiment at church. They have decided to go with one Sunday School, and two worship services. We used to have SS at 9, and worship at 10:45, for half the church. The other half (us) reversed the order, at the same times. So at any time, we had half the church in SS and half in worship. Pretty good use of space, if you ask me. However, someone has decided to combine the SS hours, and have the traditional worship service at 8:15 (us) SS at 9:30, and the contemporary service at 10:45. I don't think it will last long. When they see the attendance drop at the contemporary service by at least half, they'll decide to have one SS, and one worship service and forget it. I think that's been the intention all along, the "powers" just want to make it our idea. Oh well.
So, got to get moving, or I'll be late. Be blessed, all. --Romeena
August 23, 2009 - Msg 74730:
'Scuse me, I meant to predict that attendance would drop at the traditional service, the one at 8:15. However, I would have been wrong. To my surprise, if anything the attendance was up a bit. Can't say why, at that miserable time, but it was. Maybe it will all work out fine. I hope so. I intend to be positive and keep any negative opinions to myself. I'll admit, it was nice to get out at 11:45, be ahead of the restaurant crowds, and be home by 1:00. Leaves lots of time for a delicious Sunday afternoon nap.
Well, speaking of naps -- be blessed, friends. --Romeena
August 23, 2009 - Msg 74731:
We have three congregations that meet in our building Ro.
The first one meets at 9 am for Sacrament in the Chapel. A little more than an hour later, they go to SS classes. That frees up the Chapel for the second group to meet at 11:00. Then when the second group is done at around 11:10 they go to SS freeing up the Chapel for the third group who meets at 1:00 pm. Our meeting are three hour blocks so it all works out pretty smooth actually. Just to be even all the congregations switch at the start of the new year. So the 1 o'clock group will meet at 9, the 9 o'clock group now meets at 11, and the 11 o'clock group meets at 1. I have always loved the early block. I'm an early bird anyway, and I enjoy being done by noon. The late block I really dislike. But it's all good. Most folks seem to like the middle block the best.
All I know if they'd have put the pool table in the basement like I suggested, none of this would matter.:) (JK)
We had a nice rain here this morning, and now the sun has come out, and we are getting something we seldom get here. Humidity. I don't know what it is, but it's sticky and sweaty now. I don't know how you folks in those high humid climates do it. I guess you get used to it after a while.
Oh wait, a nice breeze just kicked in. My quacking aspens are flittering shadows on my computer screen. I better go enjoy that.

I have a prayer request please. One of our local high schools had a 17 year old football player, Jake Logue, collapse on the field while playing Friday night and died. Apparently the young man suffered a heart attack. According to what I know, he had had no previous cardiac history and was in good health. This is very sad for everyone and his family is in shock, It is a rival team for all the schools in the area but all the kids at all of the schools and have affected by this and have led prayers groups for them. I do understand how they feel as I lost a sister when she was 17 to a similar situation. She was walking down the hall at school, collapsed and died of a heart attack as well. She was in good health and had no previous cardiac history either. This brings back memories for me of a very difficult time for me. Anyway, I would appreciate your prayers for this family.

We ate a a new restraunt on the river in Kerville, Ro, and boy, it was good! Called Billie Gene's. Really good home cooking and a lovely setting. Glad your daughter wasn't hurt.
MDC, that is a great idea about the pictures of the walls. I never would have thought of it!
Well, as you can probably tell, we made it back home safe and sound this morning. Kai starts school tomorrow, but hopefully she won't be too jet-lagged. She did manage to sleep on the plane. I didn't. And it wasn't just for fear of crashing, either. But I will talk more about that later.
Just glad to be home! Thank you for all the prayers! :)

Well, I'll make breakfast. Maybe the scent of bacon frying will bring 'em back to the Porch.

Morning porch, just checking in for a minute this morning. Thanks for breakfast Possum, bacon is my favorite. by the way, I like your earrings, they look lovely. Can't believe we are almost into September. Beth and I were out shopping over the week end and noticed that some stores have Halloween stuff out and the Dollar Tree store has Christmas things out already. No wonder time goes by so fast the merchants rush things.
Guess I had better get busy. Lunch will be: bologna and cheese sandwhiches with garden tomatoes, chips, pickles, SLAW, brownies. tea, raspberry lemonade to drink. See you then. Brown bag lunches available.
Prayers and blessings to all.

The answer to my question about what sets Aunt Bee's teeth on edge is the chattering the plumbing makes when Opie don't open the faucet all the way. "ALL THE WAY OPIE! YOU GOTTA OPEN THE FAUCET ALL THE WAY!"
Glad your back safe and sound Sterling. Hope you had a good time.
Our Congressman is having a Town Hall meeting here on Thursday and you better believe I'm gonna be there. He is very conservative, and will not support the nonsense being proposed, but I want to make sure he here's it anyway. I'm sure the loyal opposition will be there to be heard. I will demand that if anything gets passed, that they (the congress, the senate, the president) will also have to be subject to the same program. I have heard others ask if this would be the case and have heard for the most part the answer is no. If we as citizens allow that to happen again, we deserve whatever we get, which won't be good.
I'm not sure where MT is hiding. Maybe we should start a rumor. :)
Hey, I'm speaking at preachin on Sunday at Church on Tithing. I'm interested in different thoughts on that subject. I know some Churches practice it, others don't for differing reasons. Anyone like to share with me there opinions on that? I'm all ears.
Where's Auh2o at? I'm worried about him. His last few posts indicated things were not great with him.

But you are right...Bill Bixbey at his best, or worst. teehee
As for tithing, I looked up Jesus and tithing and
he does bring up the subject several times, including the story of the widow's mite, but we must remember that the old covanant was still in
effect when Jesus walked the earth; yet, at the
same time, he was preparing his followers for
his fulfillment of the law, ie: the new covanant.
Not sure if that helps, but I'll be praying.

Boy,the Porch sure has been lacking Porchsters lately- I thought poor MDC was gonna start feeling like the Maytag Repairman until Asa showed up! Hey fellers! Asa,Laci is doing good in school-enjoys it. Not getting to see her much though,as she's in school now & lives 35 miles away. Probably see her over the weekend. I miss her.Oh,I didn't tell y'all (my old clunker of a brain is to blame!) that when Laci was evaluated for school, they discovered that she had a hearing problem. That's the mystery of why she doesn't speak much.I never suspected it- I was kind of expecting them to label her with an autistic spectrum disorder. Not making much eye contact, looking at your mouth when you speak, seeming to be in her own world sometimes-well,now the pieces of the puzzle fit-the child couldn't hear. As much as I hate this,I am so relieved to know she is not autistic, that this is a fixable thing.
The audiologist said that Laci should be hearing speech at a 20,but is only hearing at the 40-50 level. Her eardrums do not vibrate. She will end up with a hearing aid or cochlear implant. She had her hearing checked when she was much younger, but my daughter says they weren't able to do certain tests then. Well,we know now, although I dropped the ball on the hearing loss. But.. I will validate myself by saying that I never believed she was full blown autistic( I've worked with autistic kids in the past)-I've thought that her lack of speech was due to the cerebral palsy, along with her being premature & thus developmentally delayed. The school experts DID say that factored into her problem-along with the hearing loss.
For those of you following my tales of my nephew Andy in the Wild West, here's the latest:
My sister called yesterday to tell us that they were moving to another motel-still no rental home in site.Slim pickings out there,y'all. They are dead set to live in that one particular town. Still no word from them on a job for Brother in law. I'm wondering if he could have enough money to retire early on.Or he could have a job lined up,just not starting right away. Who knows? He's a strange one.Anyhow, sister said they had all been staying in ONE motel room (5 people & a dog)and this new motel would give Andy a small room of his own,as he was "sick of them" (to quote my sister). He also has told them that he does NOT want to live with them when they DO get a house-he wants to live in the dorm at college, some 20 -25 miles from where they'll be. Can't blame him.
Then, the youngest niece, she will have to attend whatever school is closest to the motel, and she saw the school( it's run down) and told her parents that she was NOT going there! Poor child is going to be put in one elementary school, then they'll find a house and they'll yank her out of that school, and put her in an elementary school near the house they get.
My older niece is 20 and mentally handicapped, and will attend the ONE High School in the area,so at least she won't be jacked around like the younger girl. But,I wonder how many times she's asked where her horse is! BIL promised them they could have horses when they moved to Wyoming. Her mentality would make her not understand that she can't have a horse at a motel. They promised her a horse, she wants her horse-plain & simple, where she's concerned. I hope she has pestered them to no end!
I am not gonna get riled up here, but will say that I would NOT nominate my sister and her husband for the "Parents of the Year" award!!
Well,MDC,you wanted someone else to TALK here- sorry I'm not 74753,but at least you got a little company with me rockin' away over here on this end of the Porch!

MDC, I didn't go to bible study on Monday. Sometimes a friend named Tanya goes with me and Keith and I decided that now and then I will bow out when she is there, just for a break when I need it. I got an email from Keith this morning telling me that it went well last night and that the girls were receptive and worshipful. Thank you for asking. I wanted to share an answer to prayer with you all. You may recall that a couple of weeks ago Keith got a bad report on his liver. Well, they did more tests and repeated the blood work and all is completely fine. This is a huge answer to prayer. Thanks for praying for him.
Asa, you have mentioned speaking in your church a couple of times lately. I am happy that you are having that opportunity! Knowing you, with your quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and wisdom, you must be a very good speaker. As far as tithing, I heard a really good sermon on giving 2 weeks ago...wish I could remember it...haha. I do remember that the preacher said that the tithe already belongs to God and that anything we give beyond are offerings. He talked about the joy of giving and how God loves a cheerful giver. He told this story, which I thought was pretty neat: (If I already shared this, just chalk it up to senility) He said he ran into the principal of his son's school, who also happens to be a member of his church, and the prinicipal told him this: He said his wife, Mary had a birthday the other day and someone gave her 100 dollars in a gift card. Well, she had a friend who was in financial need so she gave the gift card to the friend. She did it with the right motive (which is always love), not looking for anything in return and it was something she wanted to do. Well, the next day, she was driving on a busy street in Corpus Christi, that has a big open field running beside it. As she was stopped at a stoplight, she looked out toward the field and she saw money blowing across the field. She pulled over and got out, walked into the field and retrieved the bills, which amounted to almost 300 dollars. She had no idea where they had come from but after looking around, she thought they may have blown from a convenience store across the field. She went to the store and reported what she had found in case anyone lost the money. Nobody ever claimed it. The principal was saying they just couldn't believe it. Anyway, I remember that part of the sermon. Also the preacher said that in the days of Christ, the offering was a joyful time of worship..like a celebration, which is probably what that verse is about (about the Lord loving a cheerful giver), so during the offering, they started playing really upbeat music, throwing streamers and balloons and having a great time. They don't do that every sunday; it was just to make a point. Personally, I believe in the tithe and have always practiced it. I grew up seeing my dad tithe to the church and came to accept it as the norm, so when I began working I didn't even think about not tithing, as strange as that sounds. It makes me realize the importance of setting that example for our children. My dad wasn't a Christian, but he tithed because that's what his mother did. Where I somtimes fail is in offerings. I want to be more of a cheerful giver and not be afraid to give.
You've got me concerned about Auh2o now Asa...prayers for him. Hope he checks in soon.
Hope your sister and her family come back home soon, Possum...by they way, are we allowed to say "jacked around" on the porch? Here in Texas that is not a good comment "at taaallll", as Andy would say. ;-)
Well, been a long day and I still have to put the clean sheets on the bed before I can collapse. See ya in the mornin' with my coffee.

Good evening, all. Just a quick little quote. Whatever your political leanings may be, I think every9one will find this amusing. I certainly did. Here goes:
Let me get this straight. ..
Obama's health care plan will be written by a committee whose head says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it and whose members will be exempt from it, signed by a president who smokes, funded by a treasury chief who did not pay all his taxes, overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that is broke.
What could possibly go wrong?

Thank you MDC and Boo for your responses. I appreciate them. And no Boo, your paying tithing coming natrually does not sound odd at all. I wish I could claim all those nice things you said about my wit and wisdom and everything, but boy do I ever get nervous when I have to speak in front of large groups. I kind of sound like Barney did when speaking into that tape recorder in 'Mayberry on Record" episode. I stutter and stammer and agree, that microphone just takes the gumption right out of me. But I'm on the Lord's errand and I know he will bless me, so why worry. (gulp)
I heard Rush Limbaugh say that Romeena. I didn't catch if he had originated it, or if he was quoting someone else, but it sure does make ya think! :)
Good to see you N.N. Hope things are well for you and yours.
Possum, I guess I didn't realise Laci lived so far away from you. I thought she was close by. I'm glad they discovered the hearing loss so they can better deal with it. Bless her heart. Try not to worry to much about your sister and their situation Possum. It's obvious you love them and want whats best for them. I suspect they may come to realise at some point this was a mistake and decide to return. Then again, things may work out for them there. It's hard to say. I just hate to see you get your possum fur sticking up when there's nothing much you can do about it. ;) Just keep praying for Gods will to lead and direct them. It will all work out.

I read this on a local church billboard: "If we forget that we are "one nation under God", we will be one nation gone under."
Busy morning....has been all week, actually. I have to take my mom to the cardiologist today to put on a 24 hr monitor. It seems her pulse is in the 30's for some reason. Med reaction, perhaps? They did some blood tests to see if she is toxic and stopped her BP med. Anyways, please put mom in your prayers today. I appreciate it. She is 83 and had the stroke but her heart has always been strong in the past. Things are getting tougher with mom and dad and I fear that my sister is going to wear out. I am going to have to try and get over to help out more often. I have stopped all the responsibilities I had in the church and only go to the drug rehab on Monday's. Of course homeschooling has started back up with Sean and it's no picnic. That child has such a struggle, especially with math. He has a very hard time remembering his multiplication and then when he tries to work an equation, when he is trying to "carry", he turns the numbers around and tries to carry the wrong number...like instead of writing 42, he will try to write 24. It take a tremendous amount of concentration for him to do a simple multiplication equation. He can't do it if there is any distraction or noise in the room. I am having to rewrite the math problems in his workbooks to give him more space to do the work because he comes unglued when there is not enough space to carry numbers. It is just crazy. He is doing fairly well in his other subjects, except for his struggle with spelling, but what has really helped is him corresponding with friends and family on facebook. It is helping him to spell.
Have to go take Erin to school...
