Boo

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71779: Ha! That dumb guy wasn't the father, he was an uncle or something, but he spent all evening running up and down that hall. Makes me crazy.

You know what? God does provide. The work was piling up ahead of me, and I was losing sight of the end of the tunnel. Then my neighbor came over, to tell me that people could park on her driveway on Saturday and to offer to help anywhere I needed her. That alone was a lot of help, but then she mentioned that she had a cleaning lady in her house at that very moment, just helping her get caught up. The light clicked on in my head, and I asked her if she thought the woman would want to put in an hour or so over here when she finishes there. When asked, the lady said she certainly would, so she will be here at five, and I'm going to turn the rest of the dusting and vacuuming over to her, while I wash the area rugs in the sunroom and clean my bathroom and the half bath. Then it will all be done, and all I'll have to do this evening is plant one flat of flowers, and tonight I'll tie up the little rice bags while I watch TV. Then Joe comes in the morning and we go to John's to pick up the plants he's loaning me and get them in place. Family will arrive early afternoon, little rehearsal in the evening, out to dinner, then the wedding on Saturday. (Can you tell I'm keeping myself organized with these posts?) My dad always used to say "Plan your work, then work your plan." He was right.

For now, I'm off to the grocery store. Peace, friends. --Romeena

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71782:
Just a quick hey. Hey!

auh2o

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71783: The cleaning lady has come and gone, and I'm still just filled with awe at the provision of God. She worked for two solid hours, then had to leave to go to her night job! In that two hours, she helped me unload the groceries from the car, cleaned the office, cleaned the living room and dining room, and the sunroom. All that's left is the kitchen, and she couldn't do much in there, because I'm cleaning out the fridge and have stuff scattered everywhere. I can handle what's left, no problem. So, God provided Rue for my need.

Now, here's where it gets good. Remember, I found her when my neighbor happened to mention that she was working in her house at that moment, and so Rue came over here when she finished, and worked two hours. I asked her how much I owed her, and she said, "Just whatever you feel is right, will be fine with me." I silently asked God for a hint, and the number 40 came into my mind. Normally, I wouldn't have paid quite that much for two hours, but the hint seemed so clear. So I gave her $40. Tears came to her eyes, and she said, "Oh, you don't know how badly I needed this $40. It's really too much for two hours of work, but I need it so badly I'm going to thank you and God and accept it." Her hands were visibly shaking. Now, how's that for God's handiwork?

OK, back to my fridge. Be blessed! --Romeena

April 10, 2009 - Msg 71788: Oh, I LOVE that story, Ro. It just makes me want to cry. Bless Rue's heart and bless you for listening to God and giving generously! Yes, the Lord does provide.

I didn't tell you about the car we recently purchased. We had been looking for just what we wanted for months and nothing came up. We needed reliable transportation (and something big) because we are now carrying 5 kids to church every wed and sunday. We wanted to find a used car that would give us a huge car payment. So, I finally decided to pray and ask God. The very next day, our good Christian friend who sells cars called and said he found us the Yukon with everything we wanted. I was a little skeptical because I wanted a newer model and this one is a '04. When I saw it, it was just beautiful and looks like new inside and out. It has leather seats that look like new, quad seats, Bose speakers, heated seats, sunroof, you name that car is loaded. It had low mileage for an '04, and our friend, who bought it at auction for us, said it would be reasonably priced, but the asking price was so low, it was ridiculous. On top of that he gave us 2500 for the old suburban (Bruce gave him 500 back) and can you believe our monthly payment is 250 per month for four years? When we bought my suburban used 8 years ago, our payments were 400. I am loving this vehicle all the more because I feel like God answered my prayer and it is from him. He knows we will use it the way he wants us to.

Well, I finished boiling the eggs and baking the cupcakes so now I guess I will ice them.

Thanks REV, may your Easter be blessed, too!

We've heard personally from people, co-workers and such, who have had their children go through similar procedures there, and there is nothing but praise.
I still don't know why Kai's heart doctor was steering us toward a children's hospital in Milwaukee. But I am sure she probably had Kai's best interest at heart. No pun intended.

Well, have to go. I am gonna spend some time with the Kai before the wife gets home.

April 11, 2009 - Msg 71810: Good morning, all. I'm glad you appreciated the story about the lady who helped me with the house. Here's a little added bonus. I found out from my neighbor the next day that she found Rue through an agency, so when Rue finished at Diane's house, she didn't get paid right then. Diane pays the agency, who pays Rue later. So, the money I gave Rue was all she received that day. I have the impression it might have gone for food! I do know the check was cashed that very day. God provides, in so many ways.

Well, this is the big day. The bride is still sleeping, but will be getting up soon. I'm sitting at my window, looking out at a perfectly manicured yard, thanks to Eddie and Joe, and it's beautiful with everything in bloom, thanks to the Lord. Things that I feared would be finished are not, they're still going strong. Things that I thought wouldn't be open yet are blooming beautifully. Only about half the roses are open, but the ones that are would knock your socks off. My very favorite rose, Angel Face, has about twenty open blooms on it, and that is the most delightfully fragrant orse I've ever found. I call it Sugarplum's rose, because my little loving name for her was Angel Face. When I saw a rose by that name, I ordered it, and am so glad I did. Out of about 40 roses out there, it's my favorite. It's a soft dusty pink, and blooming right beside it at this moment is a huge purple iris. From where I sit, the pink-and-purple combination is just gorgeous.

Well, I hear stirrings, so guess I'll go drag out the cereal and juice, and make some toast. Then the day begins! Later, taters! --Romeena

SPOT, sounds like your mom is some good cook. Your lunch sounded wonderful. Fried okra is one of my all-time favortites. One of my earliest food memories is of my mom's fried okra when I was 4 or 5. Boy, it was the best because we grew the okra right out back in our garden. I can also remember sweet little plums from out plum tree out back, and pomgranites! Now, that's a topic we have not discussed here on the porch...what are some of the foods you remember your mom fixing when you were young? I remember mom's homemade fudge (and peanut butter fudge...eating out of cake pans in front of the TV, scrambled egg sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, sweet watermellon in the summertime, mom's homemade chocolate and cocunut pies, and chocolate cake from scratch. We always had either fried chicken with taters and gravy and green peas, or a roast with potatos and carrots every sunday. Sometimes it was a pork roast, sometimes beef. Mom always bought those pull-apart rolls...ya'll remember those?

I hope all of you had a great Easter day and were with friends and family. I got to spend some time playing with Emily today, which I love! She would climb up into my chair and sit in my lap and for the longest time, she poured ice from one cup to another. She is so cute. Once today, she came running up to me, climbed into my chair and proceeded to kiss me on the end of my nose. Sweet, precious girl! She is really close to my sister and me and cries for us when we have to leave her. That part kills me.

Wonder what is going on at Romeena's place today..probably lots of eating and visiting.

Think I will take a break..all the leftovers are in the refrigerator and I need a little time on the couch!

April 12, 2009 - Msg 71850: Thanks Floyd and MDC..hope yall had a great day..Boo I just love the garden every year...possum check yer mail YOUT..back to the barn with pop...SPOT

April 12, 2009 - Msg 71851: Hey SPOT. I am looking forward to having a garden someday. There is just nothing like home-grown produce, is there? It is just worlds away from what you get in the supermarket these days. Do you do any canning of what you reap from the garden? I have been doing some reading about canning and how to freeze fruit and veggie from the garden to make it last all year.

I just returned from getting Sean from Zach's house. Zach seems to be doing much better the last few weeks. He is still talking to me about the pressure he feels living with his dad and says he can't wait to get out of the house, but no more cutting or talk of suicide and he seems in a better mental state. His family just bought a house and it is really nice, with a beautiful backyard with an inground pool. Just wonderful and I am sure he and his sister will enjoy it. I keep thinking that it will mean more chores for the kids and more pressure but I am hoping for the best.

Well, Easter is almost over and it was nice. It was raining here when we drove to church this morning but by the time we got out, the sky was blue and the sun was shining. It was a beautiful day.

April 12, 2009 - Msg 71852: Possum, I wanted to tell you that Jubi was in church and even was able to attend a youth scavenger hunt on Friday night. I was happy to even see her running and having a good time. She is pretty thin but seems happy and her old self..lots of smiles and talkative. She looked so pretty in her Easter dress this morning. I think she is due for another round of chemo this week.

Hollering "Meat!","Taters!" and all sorts of other words at me! Ha! Except for Mavis-she enjoyed my "cooking",right,Mav?
Thanks for the news on Jubi,Boo.I have been praying that she gets better and can enjoy her childhood, and it seems those prayers have been answered.God is at work! Prayers continue for her to be completely healed.

April 13, 2009 - Msg 71858: Hey to the Porch. Things are getting a little better at work these days, so hopefully I'll be able to drop by here more often.

Hey SPOT and possum, I hope there's room in your club for me, 'cause I love My Cousin Vinny too! We must have been watching it at the same time over the weekend. FUNNY movie!

We meetin' at the Diner for lunch today? GREAT! And Boo, I'll take your helping of cabbage if you don't want it. Cabbage twangs my buds. You can have my creamed corn if you want. I prefer the whole kernel variety myself.

I can't wait to hear from Romeena about all the goin's on with the wedding and all. I'm sure it was a sight to behold. Well, you all have a great, blessed, Mayberry day.

I'll see ya.

April 13, 2009 - Msg 71859: You know, RAFE, I never cared a bit for cabbage, but last new year's I decided to make cabbage for my mom and I found a recipe for red cabbage that was really good. I can't remember exactly but I know you fried up bacon, then added the red cabbage to the grease and after it cooked, I think you the bacon bits back, a little sugar and some vineger. Boy, even I like it. I like creamed corn, thanks.

I know what you mean about Romeena...I am anxious to hear, too.

I am trying to get caught up around here because I feel like I might be coming down with a little bug. Sean is sick today with a fever and sore throat, body aches. He has only been out of bed once to go to the bathroom, poor kid.

Better go put the dishes in the dishwasher.

Boo

April 13, 2009 - Msg 71860: Rafe,so you wanna be a YOUT too? What do ya think Spot-do we have room for another YOUT on the Porch? I say we let Rafe in on the fun-after all,he's already in our 49ers Club!
But.. only Spot can wear the "My Cousin Vinny" suit!

Hi all! had a great Resurrection Day with 19 family members at our home yesterday. Good food, good conversation, good fun, good weather! God is good. Amen
Ro- i may have mentioned this before, but a lovely Pearl Bailey look-alike, black Baptist lady sings at our church every Christmas and Good Friday and Easter for about the past ten years.
On Good friday there wasnt a dry eye in the place after her rendition of "Were you There" and on Easter Holy Saturday when we baptize many, she sang "Wade in the Water" and the Spirit was moving in there like an old fashion AOG (threw that in there for Boo!) ha
Anyway the whole weekend was quite a high, and I'm just now coming in for a landing!
God bless ya all! Love ya all. Prayers for all.
more later.

possum under a rock

April 13, 2009 - Msg 71867: Good evening, everyone. I've just finished reading, and thank you so much for your concern and interest in the wedding. It was absolutely lovely. The weather was perfect - cool but not cold, sunny, very soft breeze blowing, just beautiful. We had about 65 people here, and all went smoothly. It was set up so that when people entered the yard through the east side gate, all they saw was the yard, with the chairs in rows curving around the front of the arbor. The caterer and her crew remained in my kitchen during the ceremony, then while pictures were being taken in the arbor, they started setting up. There was a small tent off to the side by the west gate, and the food was served from there. They put up 6 big round tables, each seating 8 or 10 people, and we just asked everyone to bring their chairs to wherever they wanted to sit. As soon as the arbor was free, tables were set up there, and the wedding cake and groom's cake, and punch were served from there. No lines, no mess in the house, and all went smoothly. When the couple were ready to leave, they went to the front of the house and everyone followed them with a little ribbon-tied tulle bag of rice and birdseed. The bride's mother's friend had arranged for a limo to pick the kids up and take them to their hotel. He then picked them up there on Sunday morning, brought them by here to say goodbye to everyone, and took them to the airport for their trip to Lake Tahoe. The family all stayed here, and we had a great time. Some of the more energetic adults hid eggs for the teenage kids to hunt (hollow eggs with coins in them), then the teenagers hid candy-filled eggs for the younger kids to find. Saturday night, I had people sleeping everywhere in the house, couches and recliners were full, bedrooms full. We all got up in stages Sunday morning, had fancy scrambled eggs - kind of like omelets, but not neatly folded, just scrambled with goodies. They all left around 1 p.m. to get home before dark, and I went over to Eloise's other daughter's house for lunch. Came home about 6 p.m., went to bed around 9:30 and slept until 11:00 this morning!! Can you imagine? I was soooo tired!

There are oodles of pictures, but most are still in the cameras, especially the "official" pictures, which were taken by Brittney, my David's wife. She does an excellent job, and will work those pictures up and perfect them before she releases them to everyone. Her camera is one of those semi-professional jobs that takes a series of 3 to 5 shots when you click it, so you can choose the best of the series. Then she crops and zooms in and does all sorts of things to get the very best out of them. She should be a professional. As soon as I have some pictures available to me, I'll put them in the album.

Lucy, it's good to see you, dear girl. I'm sorry you've had such problems. I know you're disappointed, but just try to let the Lord carry the hurt for you for a while.

Well, guess I'd better go do a little bit of cleaning up. There is much to be done! At least there's no deadline now, I can do it at my leisure. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

April 13, 2009 - Msg 71868: Romeena,so glad to hear that all went well.As you can see everyone was anxious to hear about the wedding.Spot, you be careful .MDC,sounds like you and your family had a wonderful Easter, that is wonderful.Possum, I want to be in the "My cousin vinny" club too! It's o.k. if just Spot gets to wear the suit.Romeena, could you please give me your e-mail address again? Talk to you all later-ky girl

April 13, 2009 - Msg 71869: That's great Ro sounds like you had a wonderful time and things went great! I'm glad the weather held out, can't wait to see the pictures. April 13, 2009 - Msg 71872: Yes I have, REV. I also have been keeping a routine around the house which is a great stress reliever. I have an order of things to do when I get up each morning and I get the majority of the household chores done very early, which frees me up to help Sean more and do some of things I want to do. I am even keeping up with the laundry by doing one load every morning. I just put it in before I take Erin to school in the morning. Life is more sane, lately. If I could just get everyone through flu season! Bruce is finally well and now Sean is sick.

Lucy, I wish we lived closer so I could come over and help you catch up on your chores. Hang in there, my friend.

Think I will turn in for a good night's sleep.

Boo

April 14, 2009 - Msg 71873: Well, looks like I am the first one up.

I wanted to share something funny that happened yesterday. Erin had a baseball game last evening and I missed it but Bruce was there and told me this story. He said that while Erin was playing 2nd base, she made a good play and got a kid out on second and there was this older woman sitting near him who said to the person who was with her, "What's her name? She's a good little player.". Bruce piped up and said, "Her name is Erin, but we call her Mickey"..The woman said, "Oh your her dad. You call her Mickey?". "Yes, Mickey Mantle", Bruce replied, and they all laughed. Well, just a few minutes later, Erin was up to bat and hit a home run. I mean the ball really flew. The woman turned to Bruce and said, "That name works". I thought that was pretty funny..wish I had been there to see it but I was at the rehab. Before I left I told her, hit a home run for me, Baby. Boy was she excited when I got home and she could tell me about it. She looked like she was on a pogo stick.

Better finish up the coffee and get going...
