Glad you like my "Bullie Adventures" those are always going on around here. I just posted about some new adventures with a foster dog we have right now, Chico. Bless his little heart, the jerk that had him also had a male APBT, both intact males and they fought all the time. (go figure) He turned them over to the shelter near here to avoid animal cruelty charges being filed against him and the shelter turned Chico over to Bull Terrier rescue, so since I was the closest to him and he was due for euthanasia in 2 days, I went and got him Sat. We will foster him until the Bull Terrier Club of America finds a suitable home for him. MDC don't put that broom down, lots of sweeping needs to be done here. So far, no more from "crazy ashes lady" but I figure it's just a matter of time. The husband passed away Feb 12 so that's right around the corner.
I'm off to check on my cowboy beans, ya'll come for supper, possum can you bring those little cornbread muffins you make, I have crackers for those that don't want muffins.

I'm sure all the porch is familiar with "Lydia" on TAGS. Well some of you may know this already, but I saw her today on a M*A*S*H episode. She is Frank Burns WIFE! I could believe it. Lydia is another one of my favorite TAGS re-occurring characters. I don't think I've seen her on any other T.V. shows besides M*A*S*H and TAGS.

January 06, 2009 - Msg 69147: How funny, Thomas A. I'll bet Lydia was perfect as Mrs. Frank Burns!! It just so happens that my MIL was watching Bonanza today and guess who was on it?....HELEN CRUMP. She was playing the daughter of a Jewish traveling merchant. She really looked great, though. She had long, wavy chestnut colored hair and had a sweet look about her in those prarie clothes and the oldest brother (Adam, I think) was smitten with her. Anybody see that episode of Bonanza. I only got to see a few minutes of it because I had to get Erin from school.

I'm a MASH fan, thought I'd about seen them all at least a dozen times, and I absolutely cannot recall an episode that showed Frank Burns' wife! I can't believe it would be Lydia, either - Frank was so terrified of her, or at least terrified of losing her money, and there sure isn't much that's very intimidating about Lydia.

Boo, I had that "Bonanza" episode on today, too. Helen did come across well in that role. Actually, I like "Bonanza". Hokey, corny and contrived though it might have been, it was still good. Three fully grown men still living under their father's roof doesn't sound right, until you put it in the context of the times, and the fact that they did indeed have an "empire" to run there, which required the efforts of all four. Also, it was pretty much understood that if the sons married, they'd build a home on the land somewhere and have their own household. That was implied in several episodes. There just weren't that many marriageable women, I guess. Anyway, family loyalty and respect for one's elders was stressed, and that has to be a good thing.

Well, guess I'll hit the hay. The carpet cleaner man is coming in the morning (thanks, Starr!) so I have to be up early. Honestly, Maltese are so stubborn at times, and notoriously hard to house train. She knows, she just doesn't particularly care, the little brat. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

On the M*A*S*H episode with Frank Burns wife, it's a season 3 episode called "There's Nothing Like A Nurse". The Lydia scene is actually a "home movie" of Frank's wedding day. Very funny, but the actress that plays Lydia really does that type of role very well.

Ro, we've got a few chihuahua's. They seem to house train well. We love them. The Mrs. and I call them our "grandpuppy's".

We are having some lead abatement done here at work and the boss couldn't be here today so I got elected to be here at at 6:00 a.m. to let the contractors in the building. Since we are having some freezing rain I had to leave the house early. Of course it's 6:02 and no contractors yet... But I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt ;).

It's so quiet at this hour. Now ASA, don't get them dogs riled up.

ROMEENA & BOO: Who can forget a teenie-bopping Helen Crump in "The Blob?"

Never really watched "Bonanza." It was before my kid wghen it originally ran, and I guess wasn't repeated much when I was a kid. We were too busy watching "Planet of the Apes," "Kung Fu," and "Kolchak: The Night Stalker." My dad was more of a "Gunsmoke" kind of guy.

We got Nora a collection of the "Christy" tv series that aired in the early 90s starring Kellie Martin and Tyne Daly for Christmas. They seems pretty good so far--kind of have a "Little House" feel. The only thing that is giving me a little pause is that there seems to be a love triangle developing between Christy, the (unmarried) minister, and the local (atheist) doctor. All I read about the series gives it high marks for its wholesome, family fare. Anybody familiar with it?

January 07, 2009 - Msg 69152: THAT is an interesting statement, Thomas A..."We have a few chihuahuas". I'm wondering just how many "a few" is? Our Gizzy is well-trained, too, and he came to us that way. His original owner never let him out of the house and he went on pads, like Starr, but when he went to a foster home, he was housetrained. He is a very good little dog, but he is very protective of us and not so friendly with strangers. I guess that is typical of chihuahuas. That dog is as smart as a whip, though. He is extremely observant and able to understand alot of what we say to him. He recognized many words and phrases. Hey, was that ME bragging about a dog? :)

Hi Ro, I am not a Bonanza watcher, but since MIL has been here, I watched it once or twice and I enjoyed it for the most part...it was a little syrup-y for my taste, but enjoyable to a degree (I like looking at Little Joe...the purty boy, who became the purty MAN in Little House on the P). ;)

Great to share my morning coffee with ya, Me-They. You must have been up really early to drive through the freezing rain and get there by 6. Your post reminded me of the "Night At the Museum" movie. Did you ever see that one?

January 07, 2009 - Msg 69153: Almost forgot, M-T, I wanted to ask how things are going with Nora since she is back in school. Erin seems to be doing better, especially near the end of Christmas break, but now that she is back in school, I am having to correct rude behavior again. There seems to be a sweetness and need for affection beginning in her that is very good to see, though. She is finally beginning to see that the world doesn't rise and set on Erin. Prayers for our sweet girls...God has a plan and created them to be a little spirited. They will probably be the types with self-worth who won't be so easily led by peer influence or boys. My hope, anyway. If we can just be sure they are respectful of their parents and authority....

Work has been busy this week, trying to see clients but also trying to make sure I have the ins#rance changes from them that often come with a new year. I don't have a secretary so I do all my own billing, scheduling and phone calls. It is usually manageable but the first of the year it is sometimes hetic. It will work out by the end of the month.

My kids are on a 2 hour delay with school today, many areas of the county have flooding apparently. Still cool, rainy and damp with temps supposed to drop and some snow flurries this evening. Driving will be a problem tomorrow if the snow comes as predicted with all the water on the roads.

Looks like I missed out on the doughnuts so I will get lunch today: homemade chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese, chips, pickles, peach cobbler for dessert. tea, kool aid to drink.

Maybe we can meet at Olive garden for dinner. I like to plan ahead.

Boo, I say a "few" because it's actually three, but our oldest daughter flew the coop and took her (Java) with her. That left our 18 year old daughter's (Bambi) with us. She got very depressed when Java left, so we got a seven week old about 2 weeks ago. Her name is Buffy, and man is she a bossy little tat. Bambi depression went away and is she ever busy trying to keep her "domain" from being owned by the 7 week old. Funny stuff.

I got an email from TOM he is doing ok, just a little down lately & not much into talking, he is skimming the porch though and asked me to tell ya'll he was ok so ya'll didn't worry. Thomas A. aren't Chihuahuas something else? I have 2 of them, the bossiest little dogs in the house, they don't know they only weigh 6 pounds and these rotten Bull Terriers make it worse by running from them when they go into "piranha mode" funniest sight you've ever seen, a 60 pound Bull Terrier turning herself inside out trying to get away from a 6 pound bratty Chihuahua. Both of mine are rescues and just the sweetest little things (at least to us) Big Maude we have the same thing over here, only we have high winds to go along with it, nice huh? NOT! And yes Boo that WAS you bragging about a dog! HA! I'm glad to see he got to you that way, aren't animals wonderful? Here's the recipe for the Cowboy Beans for ya:
Cowboy Beans
1-1.5 lbs Ground Beef (browned)
2 cans Red Kidney Beans
2 cans Great Northern Beans
2 cans Pinto Beans
2 cans Black Beans
1 bottle BBQ sauce (I use Hunt's Hickory & Brown Sugar)
1 med. onion, chopped
1 med green pepper, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
In a large crockpot mix everything together, cook on low for about 5 hours.

Easy, good & serves quite a few people. HA! I have switched all different kinds of beans in the recipe, but those are the basics. I also put different seasonings in it, yesterday I used some garlic powder and some of that Liquid Smoke, good eatin! (disclaimer: I, Mavis Neff, will not be held responsible for any gaseous releases that may or may not be caused by or related to, eating said Cowboy Beans) teehee

January 07, 2009 - Msg 69176: Hey there, NN! Been missing you! Hope your weather doesn't get too bad. We've got 56 degrees, clear skies and no wind right now, supposed to stay in the 60's and 70's next few days. We'll see some more icy weather though, before spring comes. February and even early March can be really nasty sometimes.

My carpets are fresh and clean, the house smells nice, and if a certain little short, fluffy person who lives in this house with me doesn't use a bit more discretion, she's going to find herself in deep trouble! After the carpet man left, I shut her in the bathroom to keep her off the damp carpets, hopped in the car and went to lunch with Eloise. We made a couple of stops after lunch, and when I got home, my sweet son was here, and had just finished taking down ALL of my outdoor Christmas lights! Even the deer! What would I do without that boy?

Toye Starr, on the other hand, had met him at the door, having released herself from the bathroom somehow, and was just having a good old time, leaving tiny footprints all over the freshly fluffed carpet. Oh well, footprints I can handle. Piddle, not so much. The bathroom door is a slider, and even though I had wedged something between the door and the jamb, making the door very hard to move, she had managed it. A three-inch opening was all she had, but it was all she needed! She just shimmied through, and had the run of the house, the little brat. She is something else.

January 08, 2009 - Msg 69180: Thanks Salty, I was able to go back to sleep and am feeling better now. I have sort of a chronic problem that comes and goes when it comes to my stomach. I have one of those hernias in my esophogus and sometimes it causes me epigastric pain, especially when I lay down. I have to try to stay away from certain foods, eat smaller meals and try not to stress and it usually takes care of itself within a week or so. Enough about that...

I would love to crawl back into bed and get some more sleep after I take Erin to school, but I have to take Leah to the vet today. I hope I can get her into the suburban. My dad has been over-feeding her and she has really expanded since the heartworm treatment a year or so ago. I will have to lift her and push her out when we get there. She always puts on the brakes when she realizes she is at the vet's office.

Yesterday, there was a big mess over on mom and dad's street. It was on the news and everything. It turns out that a month ago, a neighbor shot and killed himself and yesterday, while his wife was going through his things, she found a homemade explosive devise in the pocket of his coat. The bomb squad came and detonated it after they closed off the area, and they searched for hours for anything else in the home that might be explosive. Can you imagine? What in the world is going on with people? They are going crazy and taking themselves out. I am thankful he decided not to take someone else out with him.

Yep,that was my handle back in the ole' CB radio days.My stepdad got me a CB for my 66 mustang (no,I don't have that car anymore-I wish!) and he was "The Bobcat".Hence,the Leopard Lady for me.Haven't thought about that in a LONG time! Sally, you're most welcome here. As others have said, just about anything might be discussed here at some time or other. We just try to keep it respectful, and of course, clean. Things got a little rowdy during the election campaign (I'm guilty!) but that's all behind us now. Just hop aboard and enjoy!

REV, you be careful out there. I'm glad you're in a southern state, not up there trying to herd that rig around on icy roads. That could get worrisome, I think.

That opening segment, with the horse running flat out, and ol' Matt just sittin' solid in that saddle, all one piece with the horse - wow! Loving horses as I do, and with a background of lots of time spent on a horse, you can bet that a beautiful bit of riding like that will get my attention. --Romeena
January 09, 2009 - Msg 69203: Morning porch, Thank Goodness its Friday. I am a bit tired today, guess getting back to a full work week has taken its toll on ole Maude. Working for a while this am and then home to do some laundy and dusting. Those dust bunnies are gonna carry us off if I don't do something with them Anybody want some extra dust bunnies? :)

Hopefully I will have a low key week end. I think we are supposed to out to lunch on Sunday with Patrick and his new female "friend". He is not calling her a "girlfriend" at this point but he sure spends a lot of time talking to her and has been over the her house several times. My daugther also "informed" me she saw them holding hands in the hallway at school this week. I told him to be careful because Little sister with big eyes and ears and a mouth is watching.. and she loves to tell things like that. Guess that is how little sisters are. I will let you know how it goes.

Lunch menu will be: chicken pot pie, maybe some cranberry salad as side dish. Honey bunn cake for dessert.

January 09, 2009 - Msg 69214: Well, doggone if I don't show up and have to fix the place! (watch those greater than/less than signs, folks) Howdy ya'll, it's AFD. Now don't fall over, I know it's been a while. Been dealing with lots of things and have just started being more active online in the last couple of weeks or so. Been through a couple of bouts of skin allergies, on my face no less. Makes a body (or face in my case) miserable. I felt like a regular Leonard Blush, having to walk around with a bag over my head. Also had some sick kids for a while, holiday visiting, our church moved to a different building - and with a small congregation it's all hands on deck. Lost the oldest and longest member of our congregation as well during the middle of December. So you have my apologies for not checking in here at the porch.

Skimmed the archives, and you all have my prayers for all the requests and such mentioned. Welcome to all the new folks as well. And congrats to you and your family Me-They, on the coming addition to your household. My nephew was born on 7/8/08, so it'd be cool to have a 7/8/09 birth - think you can hit 7:08 am/pm with a weight of 7 lb 8 oz. Now that'd be something to see.

My girls are doing well - busy as all get out. Reagan is still wired from the time she gets up til the time she falls asleep (around 11 pm - maybe we could get her and Laci together, Possum. Or maybe not, we'd both be beat to the socks all the time. *grin*) Evie is doing well, but seems to be having a few attitude issues of her own, so I can relate to what some of you are going through.

Well, just thought I'd check in and let you all know that AFD still walks the earth.

Great to see ya, AFD! Hope your allergies are well soon (what a pain in the face!...remember the old joke: "Is your face hurting?...well, it's killing me")...sorry, couldn't resist a chance for some lame humor. Seriously, though, I know allergies can be miserable and I hope your's clears up for good. Once when Sean was a toddler, he had a thick, raised rash over his entire body, including scalp, palms of hands and soles of feet. It lasted for 6 weeks and docs said there was nothing to do but wait it out.

Great to see you, AUH2O! I have been missing you and your wonderfully sophisticated sense of humor (especially when it is aimed at Me-They).

Well, MDC, I think the vicks on the feet is for a cough, isn't it? Wonder where I should put it for a headache...forehead, maybe? Hmmm. :)

Thomas A., you might want to try VICKS on those crow's feet since the miracle salve didn't work. hehe

Maybe I should have tried that Miracle Salve or Vicks on my allergies, Boo. The allergies are actually all better since I've finally - after over 3 months - figured out what caused it. I have rosacea and have been trying to find something to clean my face with other than just plain water. I had picked up some Cetaphil bar soap for sensitive skin and started using it, and it seemed like the allergy hit then. I quit using it after a couple of days, as well as the Eucerin Redness Relief cream I've been using pretty consistently for almost two years, in hopes that things would get better. They didn't - they got even worse. I finally got the first round under control with colloidal oatmeal lotion. All was fine for quite a while, but around the holidays I wanted to get back to wearing foundation again and I always use my Eucerin cream with it. Allergy round 2 hits and since I hadn't used the Cetaphil, I determined it had to be the Eucerin instead. Glad to finally have the cause pinpointed - because I don't want to go through the painful itching and dry skin again. I couldn't imagine being a toddler and going through something like what Sean did - bet you were as miserable as he was.

Bet my dust bunnies can beat up your dust bunnies, Maude! *grin* That's sweet about Patrick holding hands with his "friend".

The snow up here is fantastic. It has put a bit of a crimp into the remolding but it is still beautiful. One of the local weather guys said we my reach 300 inches this winter.

Spot-Speaking of weather guys, one of ours is heading your way, Chesley McNeil. I think he's going to Channel 11 in Atlanta. He is a hoot, seems like a real down to earth guy.

AFD-I sympathize with you regarding your allergies. Allergies, yuck! I bet that's part of the reason I enjoy winter so much. During the fall my allergies kick me around like a rented mule.But, then the frost and eventually the snow make breathing much easier.

Hey here's some good news, did ya'll see the report that ice in the Arctic is at 1979 levels? Maybe, just maybe, the sky is not falling.
