September 19, 2008 - Msg 66266: Well, hey AntD! So good to see you back.

You shouldn't have told us about the "bottle" HM. We never would have been the wiser. It looks so natural.

Mavis, I agree that the house is very unique and I am curious about what the inside is like. Could you take some pictures of it before you move your things in so we can see (or after would be fine)....purty please? There is something about it that really intrigues me and I am dying to see what it looks like inside.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Me-T and Happy Aniversary to the both of you M-T! Hope you have a wonderful celebration with lots of romance and togetherness....just a little advice...DON'T buy her a septic tank...maybe a pair of nylons like Opie gave Helen or a nice bed jacket with a box of canning jars....or a watch engraved with years of service! How many is it now?

The lady next door (having the yard sale), gave 2 dolls to Erin and they were those very life-like rubber newborn dolls. So cute. One even has it's umbilical cord. I bathed them and we diapered and dressed them and she is reading to them now. I love to see her doing things like that because she is usually such a tomboy. I played with dolls everyday when I was at her age.

Well, tonight is parent's night out at the church so I had better go get showered and fixed up for my date with Bruce. Speaking of, I mentioned this week that I was concerned with his level of stress on the job. Well, one of our neighbors who is maybe 50, is a mechanic and recently had a heart attack and is now trying to sell his business because of his stress level. It really makes me think. The problem is, though, that Bruce makes alot of his own stress and that will follow him wherever he goes. It's the perfectionisic "have to do everything for everybody" way of thinking that is pushing him over the edge. I wish there was something I could do to change that. Maybe he needs a stress management class or something!

I really do try to already. I take care of everything in our home so he doesn't have to lift a finger. He does no cooking or cleaning and I try to always make our home a peaceful, comfortable place to come home to everyday. September 20, 2008 - Msg 66279: Good morning!

HM, I had to laugh when you wrote that you were almost jealous of my date last night. You should have been there...haha. It wasn't exactly thrilling. Bruce had worked on the property all day in the heat, bending over fitting pipes together and he was barely moving. He had taken a shower but didn't shave so he looked like one of Otis' friends. Poor guy was just too tired and I told he we could stay home but he insisted because he had to drop by work and pick up some sort of cable he needed. So, I sat out in the car for 20 minutes while he searched for what he needed. Then he said, "I am starving, but I have to run by Home Depot to get a couple of things I need for tomorrow before we go eat" (they are digging the trench and laying the pipes for water on the place tomorrow). When we got to the Home Depot I commented that there weren't very many people there and he said, "I can't imagine why more guys don't bring their dates to home depot"..."Yea, I can't imagine," I replied. After that, we did go to our favorite romantic restaurant in town. It's an old house that has been an Italian restaurant since the 40's and still looks the same and the food is very good and authentic Italian. They have very comfortable booths and they play soft music. So, we had a nice dinner and good conversation, picked up the kids, went to bed and fell asleep in about 2 seconds.

Glad you had a nice time, REV. You certainly are fond of that puppy. Just imagine how you will feel about grandkids!

Morning, Poor Boy. Hope you have a great day.

Sorry to have been awol for a time. Just been so durn busy. The transition time from summer to winter, and then from winter to spring is always busy for me.
Haven't had a chance to read any archives so I hope I'm not missing much.
I think a date to any hardware store or tool store is precious, just precious. I'm partial to Lowe's when we are living it up. Otherwise it's Home Depot. If it's a cheap date then it's Harbor Freight. Ain't I romantic?

Possum, has things improved with your Daughter? You still watching Laci? Hope things are better.

Boo, I think Bruce needs to get him some medical attention. Not trying to scare you, but whenever I read any of your posts concerning him, they always seem to deal with his stress level and type a personality. It really sounds like to me he needs something to tone him down a bit. I hope you can get him to see a Doctor.

HM, are you doing better? Did a new job come your way yet?

Well gotta get going my own self. I am helping cut and bale hay today. Our 4th and last cutting of the year. Been getting 5 cuts ayear as of late but the spring was so cool and summer so late getting here we only got 4 this year.

Sorry I couldn't do more quotes yesterday, but I can't go on-line at work, and I had a funeral in the afternoon (my brother-in-laws mother), and then a function last night. I really meant to, and I appreciate all the people that do take the time to include a quote in their posts.

September 20, 2008 - Msg 66295: Thanks for those prayer, Poor Boy. Sure is nice to have you back, mayor.

MDC, Bruce know better than to ask me what I'm thinking and he sure better not tonight because I am not happy with him right now. He is getting on my last nerve. I was upset because he had Sean out on the property helping him lay the pipe and I told him before he left that morning that he had to be sure and not let Sean get overheated because of the medicine he is on. He always kind of looks at me like I am being overprotective, but I'm not. It is a serious risk on the Prolixin he takes. When I got out there to see how they were doing at 3:30, it was probably near 100 degrees and Sean was sunburned, red as a tomato and I was not happy. I am sure Bruce made him take breaks and drink plenty of fluid but I could tell that he pushed him too hard and I didn't like it. It's a bad feeling to trust your spouse to take good care of your children and then they do something that you think is risky. I am telling you, I don't think Bruce is thinking right these days and that's scary. I made myself calm down, though, and I didn't explode but I have got to talk to him rationally about it after I have a chance to cool off. He's a good father to the kids but I don't feel like he is being careful enough.

Wow Homemaker, that is quite a list of good qualities in a woman. Will you marry me?...uh, just kidding (this door only swings one way).

Adios!

September 21, 2008 - Msg 66301: Mornin' Y'all! Hey to Papa Bear-thanks for the breakfast and it is so good to have you back in Mayberry!

Rev,I believe the Crackaway Festival has something to do with Homemaker's meatballs- at least that's what Asa told me! Ha!

Hazel, we sell the pecans to a pecan processing/packaging plant in a nearby town. They ship them out all across the country,so if you buy pecans, you may just have come across some 'possum pecans'. There used to be 7 other pecan trees on this property but thanks to something that blew thru here exactly 19 years ago tonight, there is only one left standing. Yep,guess we'll never forget the anniversary of Hurricane Hugo around these parts.19 years- wow!Sometimes it seems like yesterday.

Asa,yes,I still keep Laci. My daughter is back on track for now. Those moods and attitudes are something else at times though. She plans to get some counseling which I do hope she follows through on.Hope it's not just talk. Thanks for your concern. You're a good friend to care.

Boo,praying for you as you deal with Bruce. All you've mentioned is troublesome indeed.

Oh Rev,how much is gas up in your area? I believe we've got a bit of price gouging going on down here. There's been some controversy and stuff in the papers about it. Right before IKE it went from $3.57 to $4.77! Right now it is around $3.68 and some stations claim to be out of gas.Totally crazy!

Welll,I'd better get moving. Y'all have a blessed day!

I don't know how long she will be here because she is on a waiting list for an apartment. I am hoping she will make herself at home and decide to help with the cooking while she is here. Wouldn't that be great? I could just give her the cash, send her to the market and let her do the cooking. "It might work", "Yea, but it might not"...I can hear Barney saying that but I can't remember which ep it is from. I mentioned to Bruce on our date that maybe his mom would want to do some of the cooking and he said..."Well, sometimes she fixes some really strange stuff. It's like 'What the h#ll is that?!"...We are still making fun of her over the terrible King Ranch Chicken she made once. It happened years ago and it is still a family joke.

I do think, though, that she might be able to help me get through to Bruce about some changes he needs to make to reduce his stress. She is pretty good at telling him like it is and she knows how much like his dad he is so she has years of experience dealing with headstrong, German men. ALSO, she is a built-in babysitter!

26 miles Spot? You keep going those long distances, you just might show up at my rock! Hee hee

Papa Bear, the movie my nephew is in is an Independent film-will likely go straight to DVD. He and about 6 others get captured by terrorists and tossed into the brig on the USS Yorktown until somebody comes along and helps them escape. Not my kind of movie, but of course I will find it and watch it because my boy is in it!I'll give you more details when I get them.

Tom,congratulations on the new baby in your family! Is it a boy or girl? I will be praying for your neighbor boy. Please let us know how things go with his surgery.

Rev, we have 5 gas stations here and most of them are out of gas- at least they claim to be. Something's going on down here- price gouging, panic buying. People were in line yesterday filling up their boats,4 wheelers, gas cans, etc. That is just going to make it worse for the people who must get gas here in town so they can drive out of town to work-like Mr. Possum. We are 30 miles from all directions from any other places to get gas,so if we run out,it WILL be a mess. Hope things stabilize and soon.

Well,I'd best get going around here. Y'all have a good day!

P.S. Where is Sterling,I wonder?

September 22, 2008 - Msg 66321: MDC, you know I was just thinking before I got up this morning that I should pull up the info on the med Sean is taking and have Bruce read it himself. I don't know what his problem is and why he doesn't just believe me about it. Back when Sean started having the Tourette symptoms and panic attacks, I took him to the doctor, who sent him to a neurologist and even after a diagnosis, Bruce didn't really get it. It wasn't until Sean had to have all the testing done with the psychologist and we had to sit and listen to the results that he finally believed that there was something really wrong. Even witnessing the problems, it took him about a year for it to sink in. With me, I recognized that there was a problem quickly, took the bull by the horns and did something about it. Maybe he was in some kind of denial. It's painful to realize that your child has a problem and back then, it was a much bigger problem than it is today. I'm sure you remember from my posts back then. We still have our concerns about what he will do with his life. He has such struggles with school work, but at the same time, he is as smart as a whip and has great people skills. I have confidence that the Lord has something for him. It's never been important to me that my children be rich. I want them to be satisfied with life and be able to pay their bills and have a little extra, if possible.

Hi TOM. Prayers for your friend's little boy and congratulations on the new baby in the family!

Hazel, your a pip.

I know it's Monday, and after the crazy-busy weekend we had, I'm glad! There is something to be said for routine.

Hope Me-T is around today with a moulage.

POOR BOY: Boy, it's great to have back on the porch and posting regular. But I did notice that you didn't rent that computer until near election time; running for mayor again are ya? ;)

THanks for all your well wishes for the Mrs.' birthday and our anniversary. We had a great dinner Saturday evening, and my parents took us to the Olive Garden on Sunday. Our dinner discussion on Saturday mainly focused on whether or not we should be trying for a "number four." Talk about a mood killer! Just kidding. The Mrs. feels her biological clock is ticking faster and it's now or never. And, just to make it more complicated, the Mrs. has been praying about perhaps fostering a child with special physical needs. She feels we could offer a child like that a god home, and with her medical training that would help. We wouldn't qualify now even if we decide to do it (house space issues, etc.), but it does factor into whether to go ahead a have another child of our own now. I don't know. I love kids--and hey, once you've got three, what's one more?--but I'll be 60 when Veda graduates high school already. And, after changing diapers for most of the last 8 years I'm ready for a break. We're both praying about it. One thing we won't be doing: compeeting with my sister-in-law. They have 10 kids!

HAZEL: I am truly shocked and appalled! ;)

Where's AUH2O been? Hope his electricity didn't go out again. Maybe he should invest in bigger wires.

REV: How's the granddog doing?

BOO: I agree with ASA (did I say that?); you need to try and get Bruce to realize the dangers of his behavior. You need to remind him that it's his God-mandated duty to take care of his family, and he can't do that if he's not around. I'm sure in his mind he's doing what he's doing for his family, but he needs to take into consideration the bigger picture. He must love you all very much.

HOMEMAKER: I home the job works out. Y'all are handsome family.

MAVIS: I want to see house pics, too. Not a huge fan of the yield-sign yellow, though. Maybe an azure ;).

Wonder how ROMEENA's company is doing?

Hello to GIZMO. Long-time, no see.

Okay, BOO, here's your moulage...About once a week I drive through a Starbucks on my way to work. (I don't get coffee, but I love their cheese danish!) Now, let me preface by saying I spent two years working fast food in my much younger days and waited tables for over ten years, so I know the food service industry. Anyway, on the ledge outside the drive-through window at this Starbucks sits a tip jar. Tips for what? Getting the food I ordered and handing it to me through the window? Making my change? For some reason this really tees me off. I find it more than ridiculouis and almost offensive. What next, a tip jar on the counter at the 7-11?

I tip well. You'd have to be purposefully rude to me to get anything less than 18%. Hey, I've been there and know how hard it can be. But servers make less than half the regular minimum wage. It is expected that tips will make up the difference. When I stopped waiting tables years ago the minimum wage was around $4.50. I made $2.01 an hour. I have no problem tipping for service in traditional settings, but tip jars are popping up everywhere! Needless to say my danish, with tax, comes to $1.97. I wait for my three cents.

Y'all have a great day!

September 22, 2008 - Msg 66326: Hey possum, that's interesting about your nephew being in a movie.
They were filming some scenes for a movie with Johnny Depp here in my neck of the woods(well, actually a few hours away), and I would have loved to have been an extra in it or even a crew helper, but I didn't know about it until it was too late. I've now been checking out the FilmWisconsin website to check on casting and crew calls more often. They are hoping more movies get made here due to the tax incentives they are giving to movie producers. It's ok with me as long as we don't become another Hollyweird. I love the behind the scenes stuff about movies, and to possibly be a part of it would be interesting.

Gotta go pay some bills.

September 22, 2008 - Msg 66329: I got to see Rodney Dillard at a little church in Stanfield, NC yesterday. He and his wife Beverly led the service with their testimonies and music. Afterwards about 12 of us went to a little local restaurant and I got to sit right across from Rodney and talk to him. It was a really neat treat. Anybody going to Mayberry Days in Mount Airy this week?

September 22, 2008 - Msg 66334: Thanks for the very caring words of advice, Me-They. Bruce does love his family very much and I know that is why he is working so hard. It is so hard to get him to see the bigger picture, but I need to try. Hey, I could send you some pics of Mavis' house if I knew your email. You can have Romeena email your email address if you want. Of course, you may not want to get emails from women your wife does not know...could cause you to have to explain some things. Anyway, it's up to you. As far as your thoughts on adopting a special-needs child, you and your wife would be amazing at it. In your post, you have a typo that reads, "She feels like we could offer a child like that a GOD home..", and that sums it up. Any child would be blessed by being a part of your godly family. I understand how tough a decision it would be and I will pray with you about it (and the decision to have a fourth baby). I know that when Bruce wanted to have Erin, I really had a tough time giving in to it because I was about to be 40 and really didn't want to start again, even though we only had 1 child. Bruce was 44 at the time. The Lord spoke to me about it in a very distinct way and I gave surrendered. Erin was born a year later. May God give you peace in which ever decision you make and may He make his will as clear to you as He did to us.

Now, about that moulage...I never thought much about it, Me-T. I don't go to Starbucks very often but when I have, I usually had them put the loose change in the tip jar. You make some good point, though, that I wasn't aware of. Our local Starbucks is a pleasure to visit, and the employees are very friendly and you get quick service. They usually take the time to not only greet the customer, but make some chit-chat (Lydia wouldn't like it, but I do). I'm just a sucker for a tip jar...it's a "compleeshun"...

Well, found the mother-in-law a storage unit for her things and had her bank account transferred. All that's left is moving her down here on Saturday. You sure you don't want her to come help you with the kids, Me-They?

Hey there Sterling! Where have you been? How is your wife?

Boo,I picked up on Me-They's typo (God family) as you did and I thought the same thing.A child would be lucky to be in your family,Me-they,whether born to it or adopted. You know I am helping to raise Laci-a special needs child,so I know first hand how hard & demanding it is.But it is so rewarding being able to make a difference in a child's life that needs someone to go the extra mile for them. It is hard,Me-They,believe me. I'm not discouraging you, just telling you to be prepared if you go that route.I pray that the Lord will guide you & the Mrs. down the path you should go.

Wasn't Romeena expecting company? That may be why she hasn't been on the Porch much. But what about Maude? Check in,Big Maude!
