Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone. Y'all are sweet as can be.
How was everyone's first day of Spring? We started out with some rain, then some snow and then are ending with clear and sunny and temps not to bad. Supposed to be near 60 by Easter. Yippee!
Anyone wanna go see the new streetlight they installed at Elm and Main? I hear this one turns on by itself at dark. What will they think of next?

Hey everybody, I just read on another site I post at that you can sign a petiton at TV Land if you want to let them know that you don't like the current line-up. If you want to do it, it's TVLand dot com. You do have to register. After you register, go to the message boards. There's a section about Boardroom operations. Then a thread about Programing schedules. The petition is in that. Do it!

Hazel, thanks for the tip. I did what you suggested, and my vote is now #115 (I think) on the petition. I used to watch TVLand all the time, and here lately, I visit only at certain times, when I know something good will be on. Too bad.
I went with Eloise and her daughter (my DIL) tonight to see a production of "Riverdance" and it was just fabulous. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be "energy". I have never seen such energetic, talented, and disciplined young people in all my life. The show was over two hours long, and I was mesmerized the whole time. I highly recommend it.
Well, I'm pooped. Guess I'm not as energetic as those young'uns on that stage. I'm going to bed! Be blessed, all. --Romeena

Morning Dears. I so seldom watch TV Land anymore. Between the garbage they are putting on, combined with the slashing they are doing to the few good shows they air, to fit more commercials in, it's just pure disgusting. I tried watching some of the TAGS mini-marathon they showed last weekend and became so dismayed at all the stuff they had removed to stick in more commercials, I finally turned off the Dish and plugged in my DVD's. So much nicer seeing the complete episodes without all the commercials. TV Land seems to be having an identity crisis.
Well it's Good Friday today. They say the earliest Easter we have ever seen in our generation or will see in our generation, I think that's what I heard. I sure hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend and take a moment to fully appreciate all it means. There is something very special about this time of year as we see the renewal of life as vegetation comes out of being dormant and comes back to life. Ain't it grand when we equate what it all implies?
Spot, hope you are all getting things restored down there. Has things calmed down?
How's Laci doing Possum? I bet she's growing like a weed.
Hope you dry out Homemaker. Sounds like it's been quite wet there. I think AFD is in that area also.
Hazel, how's yer garden doing? You got anything planted yet? I think we have finally dried out enough that I can start prepping my soil, although I still have some snow on the north side of things lingering around.
Romeena, is your pacemaker doing you good now? Sure do hope so. I was reading the archives and went to the link for the Cactu Cuties you gave. My goodness, what a rendition they do. Very very impressive. Thanks for the link.
Hey Rev, you doing any Easter concerts this weekend?
Boo, you feeling any better? My wife has sure been sick with every little bug thats come along this year. Been a rough winter in that regard.
Well I'm buying lunch at the Diner today. The special is 2 chicken wings, from chickens that have done a lot of flying. So if yer watching the calories, this is a lunch for you.:)

Good morning everyone. You sure are right, ASA, it is a special time of year. The lovely (if windy) weather we've had the last few days has really put me in a "spring attitude." Prayers for all, especially those with less than spectacular weather.
I don't have much to add to your TV Land discussion other than I agree completely. Between the bad choice of shows, totally inappropriate comercials they play even before 8:00 p.m., and the fact that they keep changing the schedule around with seemingly no rhyme or reasson, I can't watch. It used to be if the kids were watching TAGS on TV Land I could relax a little. No more; now I have to keep the remote close in case I need to mute it or change the channel. So, zap, it's blocked.
ROMEENA: It is a marvel how they keep the top half so still while the bottom half is moving like that. "I wonder what causes that?"
ASA: I'll leave the tip. I'm telling you now so we both don't leave a quarter.

I doubt it will do any good, but it can't hurt to try.
Why, with all I have to do this morning, did my CO detector have to start chirping? Now I have to climb up there and change that dratted battery. Actually, I don't know why it's installed up high anyway, since CO is a heavier gas and would accumulate near the floor. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that. Anyway, I can't stand the chirping, so guess I'll get 'er done. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

I went out last evening to church and then out to dinner and I felt pretty good until the Advil wore off, then I had to go right to bed. I feel very tired but I think I should be much better today. I have gotten so far behind in the chores I don't know where to start. There is nothing to eat around her except milk, bread and cereal and no more clean towels. We are officially out of toilet paper now, so I am going to have to get to the store soon. Possum, wanna come help me with the laundry?
Well, I have not been to the TVLand site yet but I plan to sign the petition. I have had it with that channel. That stupid High School Reunion was the final nail in the coffin of TVLand for me. Too bad.
Hey ASA, everything is turning bright green around here due to some rain on Tuesday. Wildflowers popping up everywhere and I have been thinking like you have about the meaning of new life. Yesterday I saw something I had never seen before. I saw a yard filled with pure white buttercups. Even the centers were white. Beautiful!

You would be suprised-of course some of them I have to avoid all together--deep fried things and stuff. But by using non stick spray, olive oil insted of lard and ramping up the veggie content -I can still eat "Mayberry" and stay healthy too.
I made the "Hoot owl pie" last night with low fat sour cream and whole grain tortillas-and a mixture of frozen orinetal vetties. I also added some broccili to the Chow mein recipe. I can't wait for summer so I can mess around with the ice cream!!!

An eye witness account from New York City , on a cold day in December, some years ago: A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a
shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.
A lady approached the young boy and said, 'My, but you're in such deep thought staring in that window!'
'I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,'was the boy's reply.
The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.
She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.
By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes.
She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him.. She patted him on the head and said, 'No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.'
As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her.
'Are you God's wife?'

I've just been too sick to do much else but I think I am feeling better today. I am going to take it easy, though. I think my sister and I decided to do Mexican food tomorrow. Possum, I'm sorry that I also forgot to mention something about your step-fathers passing. I had meant to say something earlier, then clean forgot when I actually had the time to post. I'm sorry.
I signed the petition at TV Land too. Like Ro said, it probably won't do any good, but we can try. I checked the listings for what's on today, and it's several reruns of High School Reunion. The movie Beetlejuice. And also Three Men and a Baby. Who cares about those movies? It's not that I don't think they might be good movies, but you can find them on other channels. TV Land should be for the old classic TV shows.

Good morning, all. Yes, I know it's Easter, and I should be in church, but my Fredeericksburg kids just left a little while ago, and I would have really had to rush around to make it on time, and rushing is not something I do well these days. Slow and measured, with frequent rests, or I don't make it. This has to change. Prayers, please.
I'm working my way through the porch since I was last here, so some of this will seem belated.
Me-They, I often have trouble keeping up with things I want to remember, like addresses and such, and little scraps of paper aren't welcome on my desk either, though not for the same reason as yours. On mine, they'd just get buried under stacks of big papers. Anyway, when I want to keep a "scrappy" note, I just type it into my desktop notepad, and it's there until I choose to delete it, which could be never. It works.
Wwoodson, you don't have to do anything to "join". Just choose a Mayberry-ish name for yourself, and come on by anytime. You might want to read several of the recent archives to get a feel for what the porch is like. Some folks drop in and expect it to be just an exchange of Mayberry quotes or endless discussions of shows, and are upset when they find it's more than that. However, after reading, if you feel like you'd be happy here, you'd be most welcome.
Good grief, possum! Who else passed? Losing your stepdad was bad enough. Tell us about it, don't hold it in. There are a lot of dry shoulders around here - use them!
ahappynut, it's good to have you back. I hope you're planning to stay and not be such a stranger.
My brave little spirea shrubs, that my yardman's blockheaded helper "trimmed" for me, are trying to bloom. There were a few buds deep inside the bushes that he didn't get with his wicked clippers, but those bushes should look like giant snowdrifts by now. Instead, there are only those few little terrified blooms that managed to escape, and dozens of stubs where long, gently curving canes were cut off. Those canes would have been long ribbons of white in a few more days. Once again, grrrr!

I found out when I went to his MySpace page a few days after and people were leaving condolences-quite a shock.Another friend DID contact me about it as well, but take it from me,you don't want to find out by happening onto it like I did! He was only 52 & had moved to Nashville a year or so ago hoping to make it big in music. He was actually discovered way back by the same man who made Bruce Springsteen & Bob Dylan famous( John Hammond),but back then he didn't want his music commercialized,so he stuck to playing nightclubs, etc. Finally,he decided to head to Nashville. In time,he would have been a household name-he was that good.Beautiful voice, and boy, could he play an acoustic guitar. I know he is performing on the grandest stage of all now.Next,my stepdad died from a heart attack as well. A few days after that,my sister's best friend(she was dear to all my family) since 1st grade died at 42 from congestive heart failure. It's been a time, but we're all hanging in there. Thanks for giving me a "shoulder to lean on." Means a lot.
On a happier note, boy, did Laci enjoy her Easter egg hunt! I had her by the hand and when she'd spot an egg, she'd let out a squeal of pure delight and take off towards it! She had the best time!

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61273:
Good evening, all. Possum, sounds like you've had about enough loss for a while. I'm so sorry - I know how that can hurt. Bless your little heart. I'm so glad you have Laci, and wish I could have been there to see her hunting her Easter eggs. We had a bit of squealing going on yesterday, as that's when we had our egg hunt. My Fredericksburg kids had to leave early this morning to get home, so we had a big dinner and let the kids hunt eggs yesterday afternoon. My daughter's teenagers hid the eggs for my son's 4 and 7 yr old boys, and it was a hoot. I used plastic eggs and put candy in them, and pennies in some, and there were two with quarters. You should have heard the yelling when those were found!
Speaking of "Joggin' in a Jug" - that sounds like the stuff I'll be drinking tomorrow evening, getting ready for my tests on Tuesday!
Sure did enjoy that new little grandson over the weekend. He's cute as a button, and such a good baby. Just keep his little belly full, and he's a happy boy. I don't know why he shouldn't be happy, though. He has two doting parents and three teenage siblings who are his willing slaves. My daughter's head is still spinning with the reality of an infant at age 42, but she's so smitten with him it doesn't matter. God is good.
I wish you could hear the joyful concert I'm listening to right now. It's surely true - all creation will rejoice. There is a mockingbird sitting on my fence (thanks, honey) just singing away, as only a mockingbird can sing. As if that weren't enough, a cardinal is somewhere nearby, because I can hear his call as well, and get this - a pair of tiny wrens just landed on the brick ledge outside my "window on the world" and are singing a duet! I never realized those little things sang so beautifully, but they do! What a treat!
Well, back to my chair. Clear liquids start tonight, so don't have to worry much about what I'm going to eat. Maybe I'll go stir up a bowl of jello, might come in handy.
Be blessed, everyone, and remember, we serve a risen Savior! --Romeena

What are you having done, a colonoscopy, Ro?
Wow, Possum, that is alot of loss at once. Just a word of advice after having gone through something similar over the past year: Be good to yourself and don't be suprised if it gets worse before it gets better. Let yourself grieve. The pain of losing my best friend still creeps up on me when I don't expect it. It still hurts and I miss her more than ever because it's been almost I year since we talked. I dreamed about her last night and woke up to realize she is really gone. I do have the hope of eternal life and will see her again and that is a huge comfort, but, boy I miss her terrible. The other day when I was gathering things for the camping trip, I came across a foam mattress that belonged to Karen and it had peices of her hair in it. She had this uncontrollable kinky hair that fell out everywhere. I find alot of little reminders of her and it still hurts but the pain is not as sharp as it used to be and the shock is less. Maybe I am coming to acceptance, I hope.
I never heard of Joggin' In A Jug but it sounds like something I could use. I would settle for the elixer, though....pass me the bottle, Ro.

By the way, I hope you got some pictures of that grandbaby to post for us, Ro. I can't wait to see him.

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61276:
Actually, Boo, I didn't even pick up my camera, but it wasn't necessary. My DIL is such an accomplished photographer, and she was everywhere at once with her camera, so she'll be sending me some pictures. I'll pass them on.
Yes, on Tuesday, I'm having a colonoscopy, EGD and probable esophageal dilatation. I've been having a lot of low-grade, discrete chest pain, and the cardiologist really thinks it's not cardiac, but is more likely due to some esophageal strictures, which are a carryover from the radiation I took in 1979. So, a dilatation could relieve it. I hope so, because I'm getting tired of it, but I'm surely not looking forward to the dilatation. I'll be asleep, of course, but just the idea....
This is a terrible time to be on clear liquids. I've got a dozen and a half Easter eggs in the fridge (sent some home with the kids but still have those left), and lots of wonderful leftovers from Saturday's dinner, and I can't eat any of it. I don't know how long I'll be restricted after the procedure, but since there is some trauma to the esophagus, I would think I'll be on very soft stuff for a day or so. Meanwhile, that lovely smoked brisket sits in the freezer.
I hope you get to feeling better soon, Boo. Your physical ailments will resolve, but getting over losing Karen will take time, as you know. As you said, though, the pain is less sharp and the shock is less. It just takes time. Possum, time and prayer will heal your heart as well. I know whereof I speak.
Be blessed, all. --Romeena

Happy Easter, everyone. I had to work today so, since Kai wanted to wait for me to go to church, we went to the evening service. It was put on by the teenagers tonight, and they did a couple of skits, one more comical and one not so, but both with good messages.
I don't think I even mentioned that my wife is back from Hawaii. It's actually been a couple of weeks now. Her dad is undergoing the radiation treatment, but we don't know if he will do the chemo. She may be going over there again in a month or so. The siblings are taking turns being over there, I guess.
Gosh, Possum, you sure have a lot of pain on your plate right now. I'm glad you were able to enjoy a little bit of life with Laci and the Easter egg hunt, though.
Ro, good luck and prayers for your tests and procedures. Sounds like you need a break from that stuff as well. Don't worry, this too shall pass. And you'll be able to enjoy that brisket, too. Better late than never, right?!
Well, goodnight everyone, and remember, some bunny loves you.

Thanks for the encouraging word, Ro. You have been on my mind alot and I have been concerned about your physical problems. You certainly have my prayers that you are feeling better very soon. Prayers for your upcoming procedure as well. You are such a joy to all of us.
I feel like I finally turned the corner with this virus (Hooray). While I still am feeling weak, I am feeling much better. I really got alot of rest the past couple of days and slept lots last night and today. Bruce took over and my sister kept the kids alot so I was able to rest.
Something sort of funny (sort of not, I guess...): last night my nephew, Matt (little Emily's Dad) was coming up the stairs in the middle of the night, after going down for a glass of water, and he fell and fractured his arm in two places (not the funny part). What was funny was that when my Erin saw his cast today she exclaimed, "What happened?!", to which my nephew replied in his serious way, "I was coming up the stairs last night and got kicked in the stomach by the Easter Bunny, causing me to fall backwards down the stair". I thought it was pretty funny...
Think I will turn in and read a bit.

Good Monday morning porch. Hope everyone is up and ready to face the week.
I am working today, hopefully it will be a rather quite Monday around here.
Most of the kids in our area on on Spring Break this week, except for mine. They will be off the week of April 14th. I am hoping to take some time off that week. I need a break and hopefully I can do some things with the kids.
It is chilly on my end of the porch today.. around 27 this morning. I am ready for Spring as well.
Prayers for all today, especially for Romeena and her upcoming tests and prodecures.
Lunch menu will be: mexican chicken casserole, tossed salad. chocolate pie for dessert. tea or kool aid to drink.
I agree with everyone else about the TV Land changes.I am not at all sure what the Class reunion show is about but those people need to grow up. Just my opinion anyway.Seems like they are getting totally away from the original purpose of the channel. I would love to see some of the older shows resurface.
Better get back to work. see you at lunch!

Romeena, prayers for you as you undergo your tests and procedures tomorrow, and as you prep for them today. I think the prepping for a colonoscapy is worse than the actual procedure. I pray they find all well with your innards and can tune you up to give you the pep you need, sweet lady.:)

Good morning everyone. I hope that your Easter Sunday was special. Ours was, except that I woke up with some severe neck pain yesterday. A lot better today, but it still smarts.
The Mrs. was liturgist at church on Easter, and it was Nora's first time as acolyte. Plus both my parents and my mom-in-law were there. Made a great family Easter Sunday.
Prayers for all the other porchsters under teh weather. ROMEENA, the Mrs. is having some test today, too. Prayers for you both.
Did I miss your birthday, POSSUM? If so, happy b-day!
Well, I have to clear off the porch for a while. They are painting a spot on the ceiling where the plaster was repaired. Unless I want to work under a tarp, I have to scram for a bit.
Anybody want some Sweet Tart jelly beans? Butter cream egg?

Good morning, all. Thanks for the kind words and good wishes, everyone. I'll get past this, and have high hopes for feeling much better. I absolutely must lose about 40 pounds, because I'm sure that would improve my overall health picture greatly. My doctors don't say much about it, in fact none have actually mentioned it at all. When I do, they just agree that it would probably help some. Still, I know how I feel, and I'm sure it would make a big difference. So, that's my next project.
My scarlet-red azalea is coming into bloom. It's such a pretty thing. It's strange, though. My experience with azaleas has been that they bloom, then the leaves come on. This one goes into full leaf, then blooms. Pretty, but odd.
Some dwarf iris are blooming around the edge of the pond. Actually, I had forgotten about them - they're at least two years old, and had never bloomed. In fact, I don't even remember their foliage being there, though I'm sure it must have been. However, right now, their happy little faces are in full bloom, smiling up at me. Such pretty little things. I've even forgotten their names, will have to look them up. I have a list of everything and where it's planted, but in their case, there's just a list that's titled "Circling the Pond". Ha. That helps a lot. You'd think I would have at least said "East to West", or something a bit more specific. I can figure it out, if I can identify one or two of them from the catalogs. Not that it matters, I just like to know them by name.
Well, gotta run by the pharmacy and pick up that witches' brew for tonight, and by the store for some green or yellow jello and some apple juice. Can't have orange, red or purple, so what's in my pantry? Cherry, strawberry, grape and orange jello, and cranberry or pomegranate juice.
Be blessed, everyone. Hope things go well for Mrs. Me-They - nothing serious, I hope? --Romeena

Oh, do you know how to tell if you're packing extra weight? Other than looking in the mirror or trying to zip your pants? It's easy. Get in a swimming pool and stay there for a while. You know how light and free you feel. Then after a while, move toward the shallow end, and when you can touch bottom, just start walking out. As your body begins to emerge from the water, it feels like someone is hanging weights all over you. When your hips and thighs finally emerge, you will feel like you're made of lead. It's unbelievable, really an eye-opener. I noticed it last summer when I was in Destin with my son and his family. Amazing. --Romeena

sounds like everyone had a really happy Easter. Romeena--I will be praying for your medical stuff-I have alot of that myself lately. I am going to my doctor today and I hope she will be pleased with the weight I have lost and that my blood sugar will have come down a few more points! I was messing around with the "Charlene's Fish Muddle the other day and found out that it's really extra good if you add some orential frozen veggie mixed and a few dashes of (lite) soy sauce and sprinkle on some chow mein noodles. I know this is straying away from things abit but I can't help it--I always like to take a basic recipe and "make it my own"

Ro,that's strange about your azaleas.Around here the leaves stay on pretty much year round and they bloom about this time each year, although this year I noticed them budding out back in Feb. Most of the colors down here around Charleston are hot pink, pale pink, red, and white. You said yours is a scarlet shade-bet that is pretty!
Boo,I declare, what are we gonna do with you? Get well, girl!

Good morning. Where is everyone?
I am dragging around trying to get ERin off to school. I certainly am feeling better but still very tired.
Did any of you happen to catch the new show on TLC called "I Can Make You Thin"? Nothing new or shocking but made sense. I think I will give his suggestions a try. I have used them in the past but didn't keep up with them. He tells you things like, don't diet, eat when you are hungry or your metabolism will slow down if you starve (we already knew that), be aware of what you are eating but not eating while watching TV, etc. He did an interesting test on random folks in a diner. He blindfolded them before sitting their breakfast in front of them and told them just to eat until they felt full. All of them left alot of food on their plates when they were made aware of how they felt as they ate. The problem alot of us fat people have is that we just shovel in the food until its all gone instead of listening to our stomachs telling us we've had enough. I think we will try it by making sure we sit down at the table for meals and slow down, chewing each bit well, etc. Ro, you mentioned wanting to lose weight and I know you already know all of this but a refresher might help some. You might want to check out the show.
Well, better get Erin off the couch. It's always hard to get back into the swing of things after spring break...I was looking at the school calendar and Erin gets out for summer vacation on May 16th! That's right around the corner. I better start thinking of some inexpensive things for the kids to do this summer.
Later friends,
Boo
