Hope your ordeal went ok Possum and the results are good. I'm sure they will be.
Boo, you are a sweet caring Lady. Don't ever change.
Homemaker, I'm with you there on Rush. I listen to him as much as I can. But I like Hannity and Glenn Beck as well.
More snow here this morning. Been a good hard winter for us. We have over 100 inches of base at the local ski resort. We have not seen triple digits for a few years so this helps our water situation. But it's been cold. Our high yesterday was 16. That's colder than a well diggers bottom! I don't know why they figure well diggers bottoms are so cold but thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

possum-Fantastic!
Asa & homemaker- Ditto! You can put me down as a Rush fan. People in the media that are actually proud to be Americans, how disturbing! (wink wink)
Asa-We're under 70 inches of snow so far this year, way off our average.

Asa and auh2o - I really enjoy Rush's commentary and can't seem to stomach the drive by media much anymore. For those of you who haven't listened to Rush in ages - give him a week. He will either make you mad or you will see that he isn't totally off base. I do listen to Fox news over the others but the Fox tv shows are extremely liberal. Okay - I am off my soap box 'cept that Hillary was in the white house for 8 years (and so was the chef) and Obama does not have the experience needed for the head role of our country.
It is going to be bitterly cold here this weekend. I am not looking forward to that -

Asa, it was 19 here yesterday. We haven't had snow for 5 or 6 days, and I'm not sure if any more is expected; but, like you, we've had more this year than the last 4 or 5 years, and it's really good for the snow pack. But... I'm already thinking Spring. Almost time to start my seeds indoors.
Nice observation, and nice sweep, Tom.
I hate to brag, but I've got a 3 day week-end! Yay! I'm hoping to get the Christmas Tree down this weekend. No, Ro isn't the only one with the tree still up. I'll get 'er done, I hope. Pending no medical emergencies.

Hodie? Hodie Snitch? Is that you? If you're who I think you are, we haven't seen you since Hector was a pup. And I'm terribly sorry to learn of the passing of Allan Melvin. He was indeed a terrific character actor. Without him, many TV shows wouldn't have been the same. He played what, five? parts on TAGS, he was on Gomer Pyle, he was Sam, Alice's boyfriend on the Brady Bunch, and there were many more, I'm sure. Oh yes, he was Rob's ex-army buddy on the Dick Van Dyke show. Actually, he played Rob's good friend on a flashback episode, then on another ep he was an old friend who showed up but Rob wasn't sure who he was. Who can name some others??
Well, I should sit right here and clean off this mountain of accumulated paper on my desk, but I think I'd rather go catch a nap with Starr. She's in here looking hopeful. She does enjoy her nap!

Hi friends, just popping in to comment about the passing of Allan Melvin. How sad, we're losing so many of our great character actors. My oldest daughter is really enjoying his "Sam" on the Brady Bunch. Also, today the kids were watching some Saturday morning cartoons and who would appear in an episode of Scooby-doo? DON KNOTTS! He was a deputy like Barney but was DON KNOTTS. My oldest came running down the hall "Mommy, mommy! Barney's on Scooby-Doo!" I just love that!

My condolences also to the Melvin family on the passing of Allan. Of course, now i am also remembering Millie because he played Millie's ex-boyfriend in one ep, when he always called barney as "Ace." Just think, now our Millie and he can actually talk with each other!!
I loved him best as the Army Sargeant in the episode with Ernest T.
I liked it because he, this tough Army officer, also finally had enuf of ETB! haha
What was interesting was that he could play the good guy or the bad guy, and yet, when watching, I never think of him as one of the other characters. When he was the hotel dective, that's who he convinceingly portrayed, for example. God bless him and may he rest in peace!

I think I liked him best in "Jailbreak". Puddintame. Ask me again, and I'll tell you the same!
I think there must have been more than 5 eps he was in, Romeena. Sure seems like it anyway. Let's count 'em.
Andys vacation. (the escaped convict)
Jailbreak. (Robbed the furniture factory payroll with his female partner)
Ernest T Bass joins the Army. (Army Sargeant)
Barneys Uniform. (Threatened Barney that if he ever caught him without his uniform he'd knock his lights out)
Andy and Barney in the Big City. (hotel detective)
Lawman Barney. (Runs a vegetable stand, threatens Barney)
Howards Main Event. (Millies ex-boyfriend)
I think there must have been 1 or 2 more, but I can't think of them right at the minute. You're right, MDC, he was very convincing, whether he was the good guy or the bad guy.

Wow! That's eight eps so far, and it does seem to me there was another one. Now that's versatility. As MDC points out, whoever he was playing, that's who he was. As Andy would say, "That was the actor of the man." He will be missed.
I was watching Paula Deen this afternoon, and she made some macaroni and cheese in a crockpot that looked like a little bit of heaven. I may just have to make that dish myself. She also made a peach/blueberry cobbler in a dutch oven that looked larrupin' as well. Guess I'll try that, too. I'll need some of you all to come over and enjoy it with me, though. It's just not much fun cooking for one. I've been alone now for eleven years, and that part is still hard. I cooked for six or more for so long, it's really hard to scale back and cook small amounts, and some things just don't work well in small batches. Good thing I don't mind eating leftovers. In fact, I like 'em!
Well, be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

Good morning, all. Couldn't go to preachin' this morning, as I can't drive, and getting dressed is a challenge. Had two offers from friends who would have picked me up, but would have meant about ten miles out of their way, and hated to ask that of anyone. As for getting dressed, baggy sweatshirts are easy, but church-appropriate clothing is a little harder. I imagine the Lord understands.
My son is out of the hospital again, but has to do practically nothing, and is being closely monitored. He's on a tightrope now, to see whether his liver is going to start healing, or whether it fails completely. If it fails, he'll have to go on a transplant waiting list. Dear Lord! Please keep us in your prayers, friends.
It's a beautiful morning. Had a light freeze last night, and my sprinklers ran about 2 a.m., so everything is wearing a coating of ice. The rosemary bush is just gorgeous. It's 37 degrees now, and water is dripping from everything, like falling diamonds in the sunshine. So pretty. The squirrels are running everywhere, all frisky and bushy-tailed, except Bob, whose tail is only about three inches long. I think he had a near-miss with that miserable cat. A lone bluejay is at the feeder, doubtless the mate to the one beheaded by the cat. Yep, no question, I've got to have a talk with my neighbor. She says she can't keep him in. I think I could. Just pick up the cat, open the door and step out, toss the cat back in and shut the door. Or close the door to whatever room the cat is in before leaving the house. How hard is that? Miserable bird-murderer.
Asa, you described an esophageal spasm perfectly. I have them too, the result of some radiation damage back in 1979. You do indeed think you're having a heart attack, until you get familiar with the experience. Drink something warm when you have a spasm, it helps.
Well, guess I'll go rustle up something to eat. Starr says howdy! --Romeena

Speaking of omelets, my aunt was up visiting this weekend and introduced a neat way to make omelets for everyone made or order without making a big mess. She put a whole bunch of fixings out (cheese, ham, veggies, etc.) and gave each person a ziploc bag and two raw eggs. Then, each person cracked their eggs into the bags and added whatever they eanted in their omelet. Finally, she boiled the sealed bags together for (I think) 10 minutes. They were done, but moist and quite good.

Hey gang, anyone else having trouble getting here? I haven't been able to pull this page up for several hours. Anyway, I hope things are ok.
BOO, hope things go well tonight. Hey there SpOOky! I don't know ya yet but sure do like your name.
It is so cold right now that my teeth are chattering. And I'm inside with the heat going. Normally, the cold don't bother me much but these past couple of days have been doozies. I just feel like hibernating! Can I? Please, please, O please?
Have a peaceful and WARM evening everyone! MW
January 22, 2008 - Msg 59807:
Folks,
Here's what's happening. The hosting company has moved us to a new server and in the process they have changes the "IP" address of the machine. It will take about 48 hours for the new IP address to be sent all around the internet so that when you try to get to tagsrwc.com you are sent to the right server.
That's why sometimes you can get here and other times you can't. It all depends on where your computer goes to ask for the IP address of tagsrwc.com. Some places that are asked still have the old IP address while others have already picked up the new one.
I know that's more than you wanted to know but the short answer is...everything will be okay by Thursday.

Wow, 9 degrees, Hazel?! That IS cold. It's about 4o and windy here, which is cold to us Texans. Guess 40 would feel pretty good to you, though.
Good to get a "Night-Night" from REV. Glad the concerts are going well.
I noticed that they announced the nominations for oscars yesterday and I didn't even see one of the movies nominated. I had only even heard of one of them (Juno). Did anyone see "There Will Be Blood", with Daniel Day-Lewis? Looked interesting but ususally don't watch R-rated films. Hal Holbrook was nominated for some movie called "Into the Wild" and I did a search for that one and watched the trailor. It looked very good, and family appropriate. Any of you seen it? It is based on a true story.
Lots of laundry to do today, so send over your shorts Me-They....I'll go easy on the starch, Little Bro.

Good morning everyone. Somebody better get under there will them spiders and fix this porch.
BOO: I was just joking about the middle name (by the way, it starts with a "K"-hehehe).
I've heard a lot of discussion about the Oscar nominees. Even the reviewers agree that there is a disconnect between the Academy voters and actual movie-goers. Not that those nominated might not be good, just that there's a big difference between movies made to be watched by the public and movies made to be watched by the film community elite. By the way, "Into the Wild" has a tragic ending and a dubious point of view (it was produced by Sean Penn, after all). It may not be as "family-friendly" as you imagine. Check out Pluggedin.com.
INCOMING! Here's my shorts...
SPOT: I have to spring for breakfast and I ain't even hungry!? Wow. You people are hardcore.
Well, I'll be back later, if teh floor board don't do POWIE!

CARING.
Those who believe you must be "kin"to care,
Are really missing a lot.
For we are all related in this world,
Whether we like it or not.
In life, there are two choices;
To be as caring as we can-
Or we can ignore the world outside,
Turning or back on man.
Whatever we decide for ourslves
Is strictly our decision to make.
But sooner or later, we all learn
It is better to give than to take.
LOVE TOM.

Excellant poem, TOM. It goes right along with some of the thoughts I have been having this morning...just doing some meditating on the rampant materialism we see these days. Thanks for sharing.
Oh no, Me-They...not again...ok, I'll go for it one more time. Is your middle name Kenneth? Thanks, BTW, for the warning about Into The Wild..I don't like tragic endings and I think I'll skip this one.
Better go put the groceries away and keep washing...(yipee)...very thankful today, though, that I am well and able to work.

Well as I live & breathe! Sp00ky AND Hodie right here back on the porch! Where ya'll been hiding? Don't stay gone so long, I have often wondered what happened to you both. Floyd yer a treashuh for dealing with all the "electronal" porch stuff to keep us all connected. Hope everyone else is doing fine this cold morning, Spot & Rev I'm going with the Pats since my Skins aren't in there, never cared for the Giants.
Ro I'm right there with you about cats running the neighborhood, we have LOTS of them here. I'm like Ray I love cats, I really do, but to watch these poor doves looking for their mates that some cat ate is just sad. Wish folks would just keep them in where they belong, they not only kill my birds at the feeders (they act like it's some kind of all-you-can-eat buffet out there) they spray everything from our cars, to the side of the house. My carport smells like a cat box & we don't even have a cat. And don't get me started on the dratted fleas they carry. Enough of that...
Could you all add my little neice, Alyssya, to your prayer lists? She will be 3 in April & she has Cystic Fibrosis, bless her little heart. She has to go to UT next month for what they call a "tune up" to clear out her lungs & rounds of aggressive antibiotics. Something they have to do at least twice a year. She's a tough little cookie, but I hate to see her dealing with this.
Thanks friends.
Best get off here & at least ACT like I'm doing something today.

Yippee! Good morning, everyone. Looks like things are back to normal, thanks to Floyd. I'm going to send him a case of spider-repellent.
Sp00ky, it's good to see you, old friend. You have been missed. Sure hope you'll stay around now that you found your way back home. And speaking of runaways, where on earth is Poor Horatio? He hasn't been around in weeks.
Oh, my goodness, Big Maude. German chocolate cake?? You have just named my favorite cake in all the world. I like to make it in two layers, then split the two, so there are four thin layers. Then I make a double recipe of the filling/frosting, and when I get through with the thing it's about eight inches high, and bears a strong resemblance to candy! Yum! I like to have a glass of cold buttermilk with it. (Try not to gag, y'all.)
My son is stable, feels pretty good, but his liver is still in a very precarious condition, can go either way, the doctor said. He is pretty much just resting and eating right, and having frequent blood draws to monitor his progress.
It's 35 degrees here, but the birds are skating on the birdbath, so know it got colder last night.
Mavis, are the cats in your neighborhood feral, or are they somebody's well-fed pets, out to indulge their killer instinct? The two that prowl around here are both pets. I know Shamu, he lives next door. I don't know the big American shorthair, but he's wearing a red collar. Both have bellies that swing and sway when they walk, so they're not hungry. If people want to let their pets roam, then declaw their front feet. Leave the back claws and they can still defend themselves, but they can't climb and they can't catch much. At least my baby squirrels would be safe in their nestboxes. I chased Red Collar off a tree (threw rocks at him,) he was within three feet of a nest box that held about five baby squirrels! Once again, I don't blame the cats, they're just doing what cats do. I blame the irresponsible owners.
The city of Dallas is considering a program to round up and trap the feral cats and dogs in some problem neighborhoods. They'll take them in, spay and neuter them, and release them where they were picked up. If they can't reproduce, natural attrition will solve the problem eventually, and the city won't have to resort to killing them. Too much of that goes on as it is. I hope they do it.
Well, gotta try to get a few things done around here. Starr says howdy! --Romeena

So sad about Heath Ledger. I heard one "Christian" conjecture that maybe this was God's punishment for his promoting the happy lifestyle in "Brokeback Mountain." That kind of stuff really makes me angry, for the stupidity of the comment as well as the damage such comments do to furthering the Kingdon here on earth.
Prayers continue for your son, ROMEENA, and all your other porchsters. Prayers also for all those who haven't checked in for awhile.

ROMEENA: We live arond several farms, and have had a feral cat problem in recent years. One of my neighbors constantly feed them, so they are often of the farms. Anyway, a neighbor who loves cats and couldn't bear to catch and turn them in decided to catch them and have them fixed. He ended up catching 17 cats in two weeks! It cost him almost $1,000. Anyway, since he did that last summer, the number of them has decreased quite a bit, and I only regularly see two or three.
I love animals, too, but if it had been me, it would have been phffft.

I saw something funny yesterday that made me think of you all and our recent discussion of those prescrition drug commercials that are so silly. I saw on for a drug that's supposed to treat "Restless Leg Syndrome" and at the end the announcer said, "Please call your doctor is you experience gambling, s*xual or other increased urges"!....I guess now they have a sin pill now.

Flying meatballs and Me-They's shorts! Ha! Tom,you are TOO funny! By the way, Sp00ky Benson never showed up on my end of the porch-curious,curious!
Me-They,I heard Dan Abram's last night talking about the group speaking out against Heath Ledger-he wouldn't lend credence to them by divulging the group's name, but I knew it had to be those sickos. They plan to rally at Heath's funeral, did you know that? What a sad, pathetic bunch of so-called Christians.Wait till God gets ahold of 'em is all I can say.
Boo,hope you're feeling better.I think this flip-flopping weather (hot one day, cold the next) gets our systems all out of whack.
Is TvLand going for a world record by showing the same movie over and over in one month? If it's not "Fletch",it is "Fletch Lives." Followed everytime by Gunsmoke. I am going to fire off a letter to whoever is in charge of the programming over there-enough is enough! Good grief!
Ok,I'm scooting down off of the soapbox now-just had to vent!
Hope everyone's well.Prayers still going out for all who've requested them.Love to all.
