January 14, 2008 - Msg 59608: Good Morning my Porch friends, glad to see you there Asa you can keep all that snow on your porch, makes my old bones hurt when it hits my porch. MW prayers for your little one, hope she gets to feeling better soon.
I'm still feeling a little weak from that creeping crud I had last week, but at least I can get up & function a little, we'll see how I feel tonight after a full day of grooming puppies tho. Wish me luck.
I got the best surprise yesterday! We have an unfinished apartment we have been working on & were trying to get my son to move into, well I called him yesterday to make sure he got the pictures of the apartment I emailed him & let him know the plumber was finished with his part & he could start with the sheetrock & drywall anytime. (his dad taught him the carpentery trade) anyway, I told him I would get a video of it if it made it easier for him to view & he says "Don't worry about it Mom, I'm on the road now heading to Bristol!" I was so surprised & needless to say happy to have him back here. He's going to finish it up & move in there doing the labor in exchange for 2 months rent. I feel so content to have my son here with me. Anyway, I'm going to email a picture of him with his car to Romeena so you all can see it.
Best get off here, I've run off at the mouth enough & I gotta get ready to start work.
Blessings to you & yours,
*Mavis

Ro - I know you will do well with your pacemaker. My momma (who is 83) had one installed a couple of years ago. Best thing that happened to her since she had me! Ha Ha

Hubby is doing well with the leg - he can't do a lot which leaves me with plenty. The youngest is assigned to the woodpile (making sure we have enough on the porch to make it through a day and a night) and the oldest is assigned to goat detail with me. Tonite is a treat - we get to go get goat feed and put it into the big feeder. Casey and I can only handle a half ton at a time - and that tuckers us out.

My husband's family is still dealing with the shock of his uncle's sudden death. He was an organ donor - so he will touch many people. Thank you for the prayers.

Boo - I am sorry about your father in law. Please accept my belated condolences.

I know I have missed a few things - and I don't mean to slight anyone - I have tried to read every now and then just don't get the opportunity to gab.

Need to do something. . .

Hello porch family.....Just a quick check in. I'm in Florida. Having some good concerts. Thank you all for your prayers.
Got to read the archives to find out what's been going on.

Ro...so glad you're doing good. Still praying. I'm sure little Starr is taking good care of you.

Spot...did you get to see the play-offs? Those Patriots are still rolling. Take care brother.

Gotta get going....I'll try to check back in tonight. Prayers for all the porch family. Remember to tell someone about Jesus today.

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59613: Good morning everyone.

ROMEENA: I’m so glad that you’ve gotten the kinks worked out of your bionics and are feeling better. Just hope that every time your heartbeat changes your television channels don’t, too.

BOO: Sorry to hear about Bruce, but I’m glad that you seem to have the situation under control. See, that’s another reason why same-s*x marriages, at least between men, can’t work; there’s no wife to straighten us out when we’re being thick-headed and stubborn. Prayers.

HAZEL: Continued prayers for you and Mr. Hazel, too. Six days?! I think that was one long heart attack. Have you been feeding him homemade pickles? Don’t apologize for bragging about your kids. They sound great. Not as great as my kids, of course.

ASA: You and Mrs. Asa continue to be in my thoughts and prayers as well. Here’s to many more good days, than bad.

HM: Good to have you back!

REV: Thanks for your prayers.

AUH2O: Since no one has yet answered your question from Friday regarding the Republican debates, I will. I watched most of them, while making obnoxious though mildly amusing comments throughout. I just couldn’t help myself. Anyway, I thought Fred Thompson got off some great lines. McCain carried himself well and still has my vote. Every time I hear Guliani, no matter what he says, I find myself liking him less and less. Romney did okay, I believe, but I still find him kind of plastic and kind of pre-fab. It’s like someone built him from their “Build Your Own Candidate Kit.” Oh, and I was further convinced that Ron Paul is a nut. Like McCain, he seems more than willing to offer the truth even if it’s not what the audience wants to hear, but unlike McCain his truth seems to have been shaped by a combination of Lyndon LaRoush, Neville Chamberlain, and Eyore. Some people find him amusing; I find his ideas scary. I enjoy watching the debates, both Republican and Democratic.

Please keep the Mrs.’ niece and nephew in your prayers. Her nephew (he’s 22) has got a nasty staph infection that is being treated. Her niece (she’s 20), who has been on several mission trips already, will be going on another in another week or two. She has been to Rumania, Haiti, and Mexico, to severely impoverished and remote areas. So please pray for safety.

Well, happy Monday to all. I’ll stop back after lunch. Somebody bring an extra Mr. Cookie Bar, please.

APB for AFD, GOOBER, CHARLOTTE, and others!

Me0they-- one thing that will knock a staph on it's bu-t-t is a little OIL of oregano in some juice.

Hey Folks

Asa-The Northeaster isn't bothering us at all here. I guess we're right on the edge of it. We've gotten about 4 or 5 inches of snow so far and it's snow pretty good right now. But, we are just coming off a nice long January thaw so long I can almost hear the polar bears crying. You are so right 40 degrees in January feels real nice.

Merri-Hope your little one is up and at 'em soon.

Romeena-Glad to hear your feeling well.

homemaker- Also glad to hear your husband is doing well.

Me-They Thanks for your opinion. I think Thompson finally woke-up, or something, but my gut tells me it's too little too late. He's the only one running, in either Party, that is close to being a Federalist (which I really really like). Lyndon LaRoush!! haha Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. When I was in college he came and spoke a couple of times. I was always gonna go and listen to him, then I would think, why?

auh2o

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59618: Oil of Oregano for staph, MDC??...now you're pushing it. Hahaha. Has anyone tried VICKS (just kidding).

Hey M-They, good to see you today. Thanks for your comments. Bruce seems to be fine today, and yes, it's a good thing he is married to a woman. Oh, by the way, how is Ron Paul like "Eyore"?? haha I haven't heard you comment on Huckabee yet (maybe you would rather not)!

Hey Auh2o, glad you aren't freezing up there in the North.

Boo

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59619: Hey there, BOO, AUH2O. I just forgot Huckabee, who did well considering Romney (especially) and the others kept going after him. I liked that he refused to apologize for some past Republican "transgressions" like tax hikes, etc. Instead, he used the opportunity to say that he did what he had to do when confronted by hard choices. In other words, he governed and didn't pander. I thought he handled himself well.

I forgot to mention that I started counting how many times the name "Reagan" was mentioned. I stopped about the first hour, when I had a count of about 20. Yes, I believe Reagan was a good president, but I found the profuse invoking of his name to be pandering on the lowest level. And all the candidates took part.

I threw Eyore into the description of Ron Paul because of his awful outlook regarding our country's future. He might as well have said that it doesn't matter who we elect because we're all gonna die anyway. Unlike most candidates, who preach that we are on a terrible path but they can help right the ship to a brighter tomorrow, Paul seems willing to steer the ship toward the unavoidable fall. Nice of him to offer, but no thank you.

MDC: Wow! I knew oregano was the secret ingredient in sauce, but not in the antibiotics! ;)

By the way, BOO, my shorts are starting to pile up...

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59620: Afternoon porch folks! Hope everyone is okay today. Been busy today and not much time to sit until now.

Looks like we need a dinner menu: steak and mashed potatoes with brown gravy, green beans, corn, peas, slaw, rolls. apple cobbler with ice cream for dessert. tea or kool aid to drink. supper at 6.

COLD and windy today around my end of the porch. Maybe even some snow coming this way the end of the week.

We start early voting on Wednesday this week. I am still undecided but guess I had better me making my mind up if I want to take advantage of the opotunity to vote early.

Me-They, If BOO can not get to your shorts, I can throw them in with our laundry. We ALWAYS
have laundry to do... sometimes I think another family lives there while we are away and lets the laundry pile UP!!

Hope you are still doing okay Romeena.

Yup, oil of oregano IS a natural infection fighter that really is quite amazing. I havent had a cold in YEARS, and if I get the flu, it is usually over within 24hours. Call me crazy, call me Barney on a cryin jag, but I am also healthy, except for my heart irregularities with which i was born.

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59625: Good evening, all. Haven't felt like doing much today, mostly just stayed in my chair, cuddling little Starr. Friends have been bringing food by, got more than I'll ever eat. Had some spaghetti tonight, could've used some oregano, but it was good, and kindly offered. What would we do without our friends?

MDC, I totally agree with your complaint about the TV ads for medications, particularly for prescription meds. As you said, what do you do - call the doctor and tell him you want what you saw on TV? It's a bit like the articles in the nursing journals - case studies, where they give the situation, then describe what you, as the nurse, should do. Things like ordering labs and x-rays, taking cultures, starting antibiotics and the like - all of which require a doctor's order!! I never did understand those articles.

Well, I'm heading back to my nest. Prayers for all, both praise and supplication, and everyone be blessed! --Romeena

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59626: I agree with you, MDC, about medications. I like to stay away from them whenever I can.
And those ads, holy cow! They have a pill for almost every conceivable condition, because they now have a label for every twitch, throb, or twinge, mentally or physically, that a human body or mind can have.
And hearing them list the side effects for some of those things makes you think the cure is worse than what is ailing you. Let's see, possible side effects - stomach ache, dizziness, and possible liver damage. No thanks, I think I'll stick with having a leg twitch every now and then expending energy, and I'll keep the toe fungus too, thank you. ;)

Was that an invitation to come over and help you eat up all that food, Romeena? ;)
Have a good night, rest up, and enjoy your time off.

January 14, 2008 - Msg 59627: You bet - come right on. I've got a homemade, deep dish chicken pot pie that I haven't even cut, some spaghetti and meatballs (good ones, too!) and some cheesy vegetable soup that's very good. I finished off a huge salad, and there's some banana pudding. I'd better eat all of that tomorrow, because there's more food coming on Wednesday. My SS class believes that food is the answer to all ills - they bring food until you run out of room to store it. I keep telling them it's just me and Starr, I'm not harboring a small army here, but still it comes. They think they're solving the problem by bringing food every other day, but they bring so much that you can't eat it all in two days.

Well, guess I'll head for bed. This was a long day. Be blessed, everyone! --Romeena

I wonder if they have a pill for allthese pill commercials. The ones I get really sick of are the male enhancement ads. I swear if I have to hear about Bob and his stupid wife one more time...ARGHHH!

Homemaker, glad your hubby is on the mend. Meatballs or not, your a-ok.

Mrs Wiley, so good to see you. Glad you could pop in. Wish you could more often.

Mavis, sorry about your skins and Joe going. Maybe they can lure Cowher there. I think he's a good one. Sure was sad to see the boys lose to the Giants sunday.... NOT! Did you see T.O. boo hooing? I think he and Hillary went to the same acting school.

Auh2o, I know he don't stand a snowballs chance in Reno but what do you think of Duncan Hunter? I think he is the truest conservative out there. Kinda fun to watch the clinton's try to dismember Obama. They usually wait till the finals to get this mean and nasty.

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59631: That is exactly what I was thinking, Asa. I was picturing Ro laying up on the couch like Emma Watson, saying the soup thing! HA! I also can relate on the "Bob" adds. I mean, really, how much difference could it make and who cares anyway? (wonder if Oregano would do the same thing....)It's hard to watch TV with the kids at night without having to answer embarrassing questions and that's just not right. There is a time and place for everything and "family night" is not the time that I want to answer questions about "male enhancement". It's all about money, though. The networks and companies who want to sell their product don't really care about the consumer. In fact, has anyone noticed the way there are more commercials than ever being played. On many of these cable stations, there are commercials every 5 minutes, literally. Ridiculous. I don't watch much television because it drives me crazy (I probably have a touch of ADHD or something).

Hey Sterling, VICKS would help that toe fungus (heehee).

Asa-To tell you the truth I wasn't even counting Duncan Hunter. I think I posted a while back that if I could choose one of the candidates it would be Hunter. However, I think your snowball analogy fits well, too bad. I think the Obama-Clinton race arguments are hysterical but not surprising. I bet Hillary stops that insulting "Stepin Fetchit" accent, she uses, when she speaks in front of black audiences in the South. Did you ever notice that when she talks to black churches, and what not, down south? Al Gore does the same thing. No shame there!

Mavis- Sorry to hear you've got the crud. Nick's starting that now. I'm so happy for you that Kyle is moving back home!
Homemaker- I'm sorry your husband's leg is still troubling him. Though the extra responsibilities for your sons may be good for them. I'm giving my guys more responsibilities.
Me-They- I will pray for your neice and nephew. How's everyone? To me the only good thing about Ron Paul is he is pro-homeschooling and I have many friends that homeschool. I think the reason Reagan is being mentioned so much is because it's not good to compare themselves to any of the Bushes which are the only Republican Presidents in the last 20 years. Sad.
MDC- My stepdaughter said it has been kinda chilly in Phoenix recently. How's the Mrs.? I remember you mentioning something about the Green Stamps? I found out yesterday that they are still used. If you go on their website they will give you details. "Barney crying jag", ha!
Hazel- Prayers for your husband. My goodness! Let me know if there's anything we can do. Cinnamon is for high blood sugar. For cholesterol apple pectin, calcium, chromium, CoQ10, fiber, garlic, and B vitamins. Garlic is extremely important for your cholesterol.
Romeena- Glad your pacemaker is going well. I remember you saying you were worried there for awhile about your heart.
Big Maude- Hey! Is your son through with football?
Boo- Vioxx is an anti-inflammatory. How are you? I'm sorry about your FIL. How are the kids handling things?

Asa- Are you using your snowplow? How's the grandbabies?
Tom- Stay warm now, ya hear? Are you looking for certain brands of gum?

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59640: Hi Dears and Honeys, glad to see some folks that we missed like LUCY and DES! Congrats by the way, DES!

Well, Gherkin #1 has walking pneumonia AGAIN. She had it the week before Thanksgiving and just two months later, another round. It's a separate incident. I called the principal yesterday to discuss the attendance issue and the concern of constant bacterial infections. Here in my county, a parent can be arrested for absenteeism so I just wanted to make sure that my daughter's absences were not being held against her, especially since she's obviously going to school with a bunch of sick kids! Here's the kick in the pants: the principal explained that they have a lot of kids whose parents are sending them to school sick or sending them back too early after an illness, and then the staff have to call the parents to pick the ill child up. But the deed is already done. I'm glad I'm a sweet gal ;-) or I'd be inclined to knock some parents' skulls together!

Well, that's my gripe of the day. But you never know--the day is still young...

BIG MAUDE, hope your kids have a ball! Sounds like good, clean fun! I remember when I graduated high school, my class was locked in on a college campus. It was the time of our lives!

Better get back to nursin'! I've been using my juice machine to concoct all sorts of delicious and nutritious potions. By the way ROMEENA, feel free to send me any extra dishes that your poor stomach can't accommodate! MW

both made by the body, but the process slows as one ages, so these increase the production.
Hazel- ditto Lucy. Also great is omega 3 fish oil. 2 caps AM and 2 caps PM lowered my cholesteral by 50 points!
Cinnamon (along with diet changes of less sugary stuff) will help lower blood sugar levels.
ASA- Oil of oregano will help yes! It is about $30 for a small bottle, but you use DROPS in juice, so it lasts a long time. I keep it in the fridge.
RO- another turnine of soup, goooood! ha

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59642: Hey there, DES, I missed you somehow in my last post. Congratulations on the promotion and new car! Hope you get un-busy and can post more often. I love reading your posts, Sister Texan.

MDC, did I mention that I tried the fish oil capsules and they made me so sick! It took me a little while to pin down what was causing it and I thought it was the Coq10. It wasn't, it was the fish oil. After some research, it seems nausea is a fairly common side effect for some folks and taking it at night didn't help because I would wake up during the night sick and it would continue off and on throughout the day. I am dissapointed about it because my doctor wanted me to take it daily to see what it would do to my cholesterol.

Maude, (I always have a problem typing "Big" Maude for some reason, I guess I shouldn't. My nickname around here is "Big Mama"! ha...no kidding), that lock-in sounds like fun for the kids. We have youth lock-ins from time to time and the kids love them (me, not so much because I am a sponsor.....sleepless nights, you know).

MW, prayers for your little one. Poor thing! I have expressed the same concern you have mentioned about people sending their kids to school sick. In the private school my kids attended previously, they had a very strict absentee policy and my kids were constantly catching a virus from the other sick kids at school. I would keep them home when they were sick and then I would get letters about them being out too much! I know that system doesn't work. In the school Erin is now attending, more credibility is given to the parents to make that decision and the result is that parents don't often send them sick. Erin has only missed once this year for illness and she was out several times by now in the last school. The stance the new school takes is that if there are repeated abscences, then a follow up is indicated, but why harrass the parents when their little ones are ill. When Erin was out, I didn't even have to write an excuse note when she went back to class and I love that! Of course, it is a small school and everyone knows what is going on with everyone else so it works. In larger schools, where truancy is so prevelant, tougher measures must be taken, I suppose. It soesn't seem right that the government would have so much control over the kids that the parents run the threat of being arrested. Is homeschooling legal in your state? So far Texas is different than many states in that parents seem to have greater freedoms under the law. The rules governing homeschoolers are very limited. We are required to teach the basics, with some history/social studies but testing and record-keeping are not required by law. Anyway, I get very frustrated hearing some of teacher friends talk about how the school earns more money from the government for every child who is in school each day....that might be part of the problem.

I have a new recipe in the oven called, "Orange Marmalade Bread" and it smell divine! Wish I could share some of it with all of you. Today is a cloudy, 58 degrees here in South Texas and I love it! Have been cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry....better get back at it.

Boo

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59643: Well, the marmalade bread was not so hot. First of all, the reason I could smell it so well is that it ran over the side of the pan...and ran....and ran. Y'all have a great evenin'!
Oh, by the way, we finally got regular cable so I get TVLand now. It's funny, but TAGS is about where I have my last DVD set-season 4 is my last one.
Blessings,
~Farrah

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59645: So sorry, Lucy! Hope all goes well and they are able to repair the damage soon. Bless your heart. I'll bet you're about to waste away to nothing by now. Prayers for you.

Love,
Julie (Boo)

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59646:
Farrah-Lucy and Julie-Boo, we seem to be having an identity crisis!! haha
Prayers for you Lucy!
Boo, so sorry about the bread.
I did not know that about the fish oil for you! Too bad. I always take all my suppliments after or with a meal, unless it says not too. That might help!
Now I KNOW that i am getting old, within the past 4 months, 4 really good teachers that i had in high school have passed away. The 4th just this past weekend! It seems like the past keeps slipping deeper into oblivion. I guess that is the life cycle however.
Big doings coming up in Phoenix area.
Two big car auctions, then the SuperBowl and the FBR Phoenix Open. It basically means TRAFFIC! haha
MDC-Steve ha!

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59647: Sorry for the marmalade catastrophe BOO! That's so disappointing when you've gone to all that trouble baking and then it turns out to be a bust. About homeschool...I've thought about it often but there are some roadblocks for me personally. I don't have the confidence to homeschool. I fear that I would short-change my daughters somehow. Our schools are small and ranked as some of the best in the state and I've been pleased with her progress other than this sickness issue and the fact that I need to find other enrichment things for her. (She's 6 going on 30) It's something I think about often.

LUCY dear, God Bless Your Heart! I'm thinking of ya!

Better get dinner going...planning dinner...the bane of my existence!! MW

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59648: Hey there MDC!

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59649: Are we revealing first names?? How exciting! Can any of you guess mine? hmmmmmm---MW

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59650: Yes, MDC, I tried taking the fish oil with food, nothing worked.

Well MW, maybe you could give it a trial during the summer months and see how it goes. You might be pleasantly surprised. I used to like homeschooling but it's not something I want to do right now, but feel I don't have a choice. I am about ready to get an ulcer over it at this point and have had trouble finding help with Sean's learning difficulties. If you don't have a child with learning problems, it is probably much easier.

MW, I know the first names of lots of folks on the porch but can't always remember them all. I know Hazel's name and it does start with an "E" but I won't reveal it. She will have to do that herself. I think your first name might be "Amanda"...am I close?

Boo

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59651: Wonder what ever happened to Dixie Belle? She used to drop in from time to time. Guess she is busy with that teaching job...check in if you read this Dixie.

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59652: My name is Erma Tubbs.
- Hazel

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59653: Now Hazel, that's a big fib and you know it! I suppose next thing you'll be telling us you're in your twenties. Well, I'm in my forties, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. --Romeena

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59654: Hazel! You have a pretty name and I think you should share it.

Romeena, I think that's your shortest post ever. Is your insertion site bothering you tonight or are you just tired? Bless your heart, you get plenty of rest, you hear?

Boo

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59655: Kai's doing fine, Lucy, thanks for asking.
She was kind of ornery tonight, so we sent her to bed early.
Hope you feel better soon.

Well, I'd better get ready for bed, or I'M going to be feeling ornery tomorrow. ;)

Night all,

January 15, 2008 - Msg 59656: Hi All.a little cold to night,.
A MAN.
I met a man just the other day
So broken and alone.
He sat in the seat next to me
On the bus ride home.
He talked about his pain to me,
Didn't fool me much.
I sensed a need within him
And knew right away-
He was a roaming sheep
Lost and so far astray.
As he talked, I listened
And prayed in my heart for words.
Then I came to realize
He only neede to be heard.
I sat in for the Lord that day
As I listened to a man's story.
And reveal to him Hi s glory.

LOVE TOM

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59657: What a lovely poem, Tom, such a beautiful thought. You have such a kind and thoughtful heart, my friend.

No, Boo, the pacer site isn't really bothering me. It has never really hurt - it itches and stings a bit, and I keep thinking that a warm pack would feel good, but I think I'd better clear that with the doctor first. With a battery in the thing, I'm not sure if temperature extremes are a consideration or not. Probably not, but I'll still check first. I do know that when little Starr climbs into her chosen perch, which is across my chest, her little warm body and the very gentle pressure of her tiny weight does feel good. No, I guess for once in my life I just didn't have much to say. Curious. Curious, curious, curious! --Romeena

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59658: Hope this night finds you all feeling peaceful and content.

HAZEL, I think you're name is ELLA TURNER and you used to sing at Dinner Clubs in the big city before you got swept off your feet with a Rancher/Cowboy who turned you into a country wife but you still yearn for those smoky nights, singing about love found and lost while sipping on a cognac and asking Sam to "play it again." Or my imagination has just officially ran off with my thinking mind because I'm so blasted tired from being up for 19 hours straight. Your pick!

BOO, funny you should pick an "A" name. My name does indeed begin with the letter A. I've always wondered if some of you can see people log-in somewheres. I also like your suggestion about trying homeschooling over the summer. What a clever idea! Maybe I can start researching materials now. Where have you found yours?

ROMEENA, I hope you're settling in with your resting and relaxation and that's why you don't have a lot to say tonight. So glad little STARR is such a comfort to you! Just keep eating that good food and keep resting in your easy chair with Starr while you watch some Mayberry Mayhem.

Goodnight BOO, HAZEL-WHAT'S-YOUR-NAME, RO, TOM, STERLING, REV, SPOT, MAVIS, LUCY, MDC (I started my fish oil supplements tonight), BIG MAUDE, M-T, AUH20, ASA, HM, NN, AFD, and whomever else I may have accidentally left out...prayers and love to all. MW

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59659: Merri, you're a caution! No, to the best of my knowledge, none of us can view any sort of personally identifying sign-in, with the exception of Floyd, and I don't know how far his vision extends. Of course, anyone can use the "View/Page source" function on their browser, but that only gives a number, no personal information.

Mavis, the picture of Jake with his car is now in your sub-album. Porchsters, to see it you just go to the album, then click on the sub-album "Mavis" and the picture is on the second page.

REV, I got the card (thanks!) and the picture of your daughter's little dog. He's adorable! I'll bet you miss him, but I'm sure she and her roommates are really enjoying him. He's just too cute! Tomorrow I'll scan the picture and get it in the "Porchsters' Pets" album. Oh, and incidentally - yes, I've often said "used to could". "Used to would have", also. Not very grammatical, but understood in these parts.

Tom, thanks for the lovely card. I really appreciate it.

Well, I think Starr and I will head for the bed. Phooey on the ironing board, my bed is much more comfortable, and besides, Starr keeps falling off the ironing board. The bed is much bigger. Be blessed, y'all! --Romeena

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59660: Speaking of cards, Ro, has little Starr learned to attack the mail yet, like Sugarplum? I always thought that was the funniest thing. Glad you are doing ok. While you are recovering at home, maybe you could think of some stories to share with us...maybe memories of childhood. I would love it.

Sterling, I know all about how onery little girls can be. Mercy, it can be stressful! Hope today is a better day for you.

Thank you for the poem, Dear Tom.

MW, you are funny! Ha, Hazel's name is not Ella Turner, though she may have an occasional Cognac...not sure. So, your name begins with an "A"?...hmmm, what about "Alicia"..? I know Mavis' name begins with an "A"...wonder if you both share the same name? Is it "Angie"?

Wish I could go back to bed for awhile (big yawn). I intended to get some early shut-eye last night but it didn't quite work out. Last night at the drug rehab, my friend Keith (who lost his beloved Linda last year), shared the story of Linda, her illness and her passing with the girls last in group and it was so very touching. The amazing things God did in their lives during her illness and passing are almost unbelievable, but I know they are true because I was a witness to it all. You all prayed for them while they were going through it and I wanted you to know that your prayers made (and are still making) a difference, thank you. Keith is like a big brother to me and it means alot that you cared enough to pray for them. I held it together well during the meeting, just a few stray tears, and some of the girls were still crying when we left. After I got home and into bed for the night, it hit me and I had to cry for awhile. When Bruce came to bed, I was so thankful just to think about how he is right there, healthy and alive and I could snuggle next to his warm body and be thankful for all the Lord has given me. I don't want to take it for granted. Someday, if Bruce goes before I do, I want to be able to say that I didn't take his love for granted and that I lived that love to the fullest everyday. Wouldn't life be so much richer if we could do that?

Have to go get Erin ready for school and finish this cup of coffee. Love to all,

Boo

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59661: Good morning everyone. Crystal clear and a balmy 26 degrees here today.

HAZEL: Ernestine Tutwiller? MW: Almira? I won't tell what letter mine starts with, but I will give a hint: "Hey, hey, hey!"

LUCY: So nice to hear from you. All is well in the Me-They family, for the most part.

AUH2O, ASA & MDC: Well, I guess the Romeney win yesterday really muddies the Republican water. But I kind of like it. It's been a while since the nominee wasn't a forgone conclusion following the New Hampshire primary. Anybody taking bets?

BOO: I was wondering about DIXIE, too. And AFD, IDELLE, and others who haven't been around lately.

Me-They
"You can't come to breakfast like some naked savage!"

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59662: Oh, it wasn't THAT bad last night, Boo, but thanks for your concern. There have been times when she can test your patience, that's for sure, but I knew she was tired yesterday. She's a pretty good kid.
She didn't want to do what her mommy had asked her to do, but as long as you are stern with her and keep a "this is what we are going to do" attitude, she is pretty agreeable. I learned that early on when I had a little trouble with her not wanting to go to pre-school.

But no, she was even in a good mood last night when she went to bed. Like I said, a pretty good kid.

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59663:
Morning Folks

Hazel-This is truly a small world, my name is Erma Tubbs.

M-T I'm loving it also. I think it might be McCain as the last one standing. And I think he can beat both Obama and Hillary. The "forgone conclusion" thing you mentioned bothered me a lot about W in 2000. W also got on my nerves with his "compassionate conservative" nonsense. I think if Mcain had won then there would be McDonald's already in business in Iraq.

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59664: I have been listening to Rush and his take on the Republican candidates. He gives a lot food to chew on - haven't decided on who gets my vote but we don't primary until May.

On the Democrat side - can't say as I like any of the choices presented to me. I can't put Hillary in the white house. Can't put Obama there either and Edwards talks out of both sides of his mouth.

I am just not to keen on any of the candidates in any forum.

Just keeping way to busy around here - made meat. . . .loaf last nite - not meatballs. Anyone got suggestions for tonite - thinking maybe BBQ porkchops? (Porkchops and applesauce!)

hm

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59665: Hey, STERLING. I know of what you speak. My oldest is a great kid, loving, funny, smart, but boy can she hit a mood sometimes. I just let her be and eventually she calms down and comes around. Pretty muich the same thing I do with her mom! When something works, you go with it.

AUH2O/ERMA: You may be right. I know I sure hope so. With the country so evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats (the ones who vote, anyway), I believe McCain has the very best chance of bring Democrats over the party line in a general election. I can't imagine many crossing for Huckabee, Guliani, or Romney. And it would be nice to get away from the 49-51 split that has become so familiar. One problem I see ahead for a McCain candicacy is that evangelicals may not come out as strong on election day, when every vote is going to count. Of course, maybe the alternative will scare them out, so to speak. That said, I'm pleased that Edwards seems all but out of it now. Of all three Democratic frontrunners, he bothered me the most.

Please say a prayer for a friend of mine from my accountability group. His marriage is crumbling (his wife has major mental issues and refuses help) and the handwriting is on the wall. There are two young kids involved. He has tried for several years to do the right thing, and truly has endured a situation I cannot imagine any man standing still for. Now their are safety issues and such. Anyway, hold him up for prayer, please.

Me-They

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59666: Oh, hey there HM! Good to hear from you. Hmm...I wonder which is worse, your meatballs or Rush Limbaugh? That's a toughie.

M-T

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59667: I would say my meatballs - don't EVEN say anything about my Rush! Them's fighting words!!

hm

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59668: Sorry, HM, I don't want to fight. I've just never liked Rush. To me, he's no better than liberals who spin things in their direction by taking things out of context and making mountains out of molehills.

Now please don't take my milk nickel. Sandwiches taste better with milk.

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59669: Will it nice and cold so fare.
Romeena you are welcome I hope it may your day.

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59670: You guys are so funny! You just make my day (especially you, Auh2o, alas Erma Tubbs).

Well Sterling, I guess my little darling is more onery than your's, cause we have major stress around here, and often. We are reading a book called, Teaching Kids Boundaries, and putting some of that into practice and things are getting considerably better. Bruce and I have scratching our heads alot, and plotting how to survive until now.

Me-They, I don't get the hint....are you trying to say your name begins with an H or was that a reference to Fat Albert?...Is your name "Herbie" or maybe "Horatio"? Is Rush still around? I thought he had drug problem and left the airwaves. M-T, why do you think evangelicals won't vote for McCain? Is he pro-choice? Have I asked enough questions yet or should I ask one more.....?

Better get some laundry in and get Sean started on his work.

Boo

Please don't take Me-They's nickel, Homemaker.

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59671: Stay warm, TOM. It's cold here, too. Does chewing gum count as exercise? Maybe I should try it.

BOO: The hint is the hint, but I will say it neither starts with an "H" nor is a reference to Fat Albert. I'll stay away from answering about Rush, thanks. I think HM might be able to take me. Some evangelicals liek McCain, but among the field I get the sense that he seems too liberal for some of them. He is pro-life, but is softer on some conservative issues like immigration (that's not to say he's cool with the status quo). Unfortunately, a lot of evangelicals seem to skew even more conservative than garden variety conservatives, and not just on issues of morality. McCain is a values candidate, but some of those values involve responsibility to the environment, the poor, and the responsibility of business to do the right thing by those who they profit from. Gee, I sound like a campaign poster.

Is the book you are reading "Boundaries for Kids?" by the guys from New Life Live?

Me-They

January 16, 2008 - Msg 59672: Good morning, all. Cold here today - just 48 degrees, but it's cloudy and damp and just "looks" cold out there. I'm glad I can stay tucked in here with sweet little Starr. Happily, the pond pumps aren't clogging up, because I couldn't do anything about them just yet, would have to ask someone else to do it. It's sort of a yucky job, hate to ask anyone else to tackle it. I knew I was doing the right thing by netting all the leaves out and getting my yard man friend over to gather and/or mulch what was on the ground, just before I went in the hospital. Those decomposing leaves in the water apparently release something that causes a thick, gooey gel to form in the filters, even more occlusive than algae. Nasty stuff. Anyway, I removed all the leaves, soaked the filters in brine for a while, put a very tiny bit of the salt into the pond, and it seems to have done the trick. Salt is wonderful stuff.

Yes, Boo, Starr is interested in the mail. She doesn't launch an all-out attack like the Plum did, just ripping through and shredding everything she could get her teeth into, but she's interested. She barks at the mailman (oh, such a bark!) then side-eyes me, looking for a chance. She'll slip into the entry, pick up a piece of mail and carry it into the living room, then proceeds to "dig" on it. It is just hilarious. I'm tempted to film it and put it on YouTube. She crouches over the slick paper or whatever (satiny fabrics attract her, too) and starts digging with her front paws. Those little paws fly so fast you can hardly see them. The sound is what's so funny - it's very, very fast, sort of a whistling sound - whee, whee, whee. She'll dig for about thirty seconds, then just suddenly flops down and presses her face against the spot where she was digging. It's just the strangest, funniest thing. My daughter was just howling with laughter, watching her. That little pup is a laugh a minute.

Well, guess I'd better go change the dressing on the pacer site. It's healing nicely. Be blessed, y'all! --Romeena
