Already got a nice chuck roast in the crock pot. Going to serve it with baby whole carrots, finger potatoes and shallots. Thought I'd spice things up a bit with some good ingredients. It's such a let down after Thanksgiving to have this wonderful meal fit for a King and then go back to Hamburger Helper and sloppy joe's.
It's off to the laundry room for me! If you hear my dryer clankin', can one of you fine fellows or ladies come in with a wrench? I'd sure appreciate it. It doesn't seem to be responding to my kicks anymore!

Kai and I just watched that "Grinch" last night(the original cartoon, not the remake). I wonder why they never play "The Little Drummer Boy" on tv anymore. That was one of my favorites.
Kai asked me to join her at school today for lunch. What a sweetie!
So sorry, Spot, I won't be over for lunch today. ;) We're having chicken patties, and whatever else they serve with it. Will be kind of nice to have those little cartons of milk again. Remember those?

Good almost afternoon everyone. Hope you all are doing well. Sorry I haven't been by too much lately, but thanks for asking about me.
STERLING: ABC Family is broadcasting "The Little Drummer Boy" sometime over the next few weeks--I saw a listing for it. I'll try and find out when for you.
BOO: I reread "To Kill a Mockingbird" over the Thanksgiving holiday. I love that book. Now I want to see the movie again.
Work is depressing today. We are right across the street from a huge old church, which is having a funeral service today for a family today. You may have heard about on the wires. A mom, and her three children (6, 10 & 12, I think) were murdered by her ex-husband in a parking lot where they were exchanging the kids for Thanksgiving. He also shot himself. Anyway, of course this is devastating to the whole community. Mourners have filled up teh parking deck (next door to the church) and the city has closed down one lane of the street out front for service parking. I almost cried this morning watching them unload those four caskets. Keep the rest of the family and our community in your prayers.
I'll try and check back later.

Sorry, Tom in NC, I don't know the answer to your questions, but probably someone around here does.
Big Maude, your suggestion about the baby gate is a good one, except for two things. Starr is so tiny, and she climbs. She would either walk through or climb just about anything I put up. I do think I solved the problem, though, and it was simple. She was still in the bathroom when I got home, because I had folded a piece of cardboard and wedged it between the sliding door and the pocket it slides into. There was enough drag applied by the wedge to keep the door from sliding. As she gets older and finishes her chewing stage, I'll just close her up in the bedroom, which has a regular door that she can't open. That's where the Plum stayed when I was gone. Anyway, Starr was one happy little pup when I got home, and I was pretty glad to see her, too.
Well, think I'll go lie down for a while. It was a long night. Blessings, all! --Romeena

Sterling - ABC Family will most likely run Little Drummer boy within the next 25 days - they have for every year so far since they started the 25 days of Christmas. There are some really good cartoons (older ones) that they show. On that note, we had a little buckling born last week with really long ears - his name is Nester, after the family movie, Nester - the long eared Christmas donkey - which will also be on ABC Family. Check their website for a schedule - alot of them are on around 6 or 7 at nite.

There's also a wonderful story about a shepherd boy who gets struck by lightening on a mountain near a convent. The nuns take him in (I think Angela Lansbury is the nun who finds him) and then on Christmas Eve he is granted a divine miracle. If I find the title and listing, I'll post if for everyone.

Not to start a political moulage or anything... but now that Me-They is back I figured what the heck! ;) But I see there is another Bin Laden tape out, and it got me to thinking. I remember wondering how, in the last days, that ALL nations come against Israel like it says in the Bible, because I figured that the we would never rise up against them because the USA has always been such a good friend to them.
Now I see Bin Laden has another tape out where he is urging Europeon countries to stop aiding the US in Afghanistan. And that's when it hit me. That maybe we don't rise up against Israel directly. But that maybe, after other people get in the White House(like after Bush leaves), our military support and other resources that we give Israel will be diminished and eventually non-existent, maybe initiated by some action Israel takes against another country that the US doesn't approve of. We will just give up supporting them and leave them to the wolves, which would be going against them by not doing anything to help them. Then all h&ll will break loose... literally.
Just something I was thinking about. Well, enjoy the rest of your day. ;)

Sterling-I don't think we should support Israel simply because they are Israel. The state of Israel is a secular body just like the United States. I would hope we always have leaders that support what is in our best interests, as a nation. Israel and the US have a special bond I don't believe someone like a Bin Laden could circumvent that. I also think Israel will be supported by Democrats and Republican Presidents as long as it is beneficial to us. Jewish people, in this country, overwhelmingly support the Dems over the GOP.

AUH20, you may not believe it but I've been talking to hubby for a couple years now about moving to upstate New York or Massachusetts somewhere. I love New England! And I don't identify it with NYC, though I don't necessarily see that as a negative either. I'm just in love with small, New England towns. I live in Southwest Missouri fairly close to the Arkansas border. The Ozarks, if you will. ROMEENA used to live in the Queen city here back in the 70's. I thought that was pretty darn neat! If it wasn't for my mom, we'd probably be long gone. There's a lot of positive things in this area, but also some negatives, just like with any place I suppose.
I do have one comment about Israel...I support her and have confidence that our country always will. We've had both liberals and conservatives in office and not much changed in the way of our support. However, Israel has not always been so kind to us--they've attacked our ships before and then claimed "we didn't know it was you." Maybe we were spying on them. Maybe not. All I'm saying is that she is loyal to no one and we sure do give that country A LOT of money. I just don't know if it's always appreciated. Perhaps it's just expected now. That's just my opinion. Like I said, I support Israel and am confident that this country will always stand shoulder to shoulder with them.
BOO and MDC, I've always thought that the waffle iron is a cruel way to check things out and if a man had to use that waffle iron to check out certain delicate areas, perhaps there wouldn't be a waffle iron at all. Something a little less, ummmm, flattening. We can put a man on the moon and a robot on Mars but we can't figure out how to do a check-up that doesn't resemble a Medieval torture device. *wink*wink* Let's just say I'm not looking forward to getting my first one. Also, the waffle iron is being replaced by the MRI these days. My DIL's doctor uses MRIs almost exclusively. She believes them to be more conclusive, and obviously, they're a lot less unpleasant.
Good to see you, Me-They. You have been missed!
Well, I'm off to cook up something for dinner. I'm going to try a new dish, something I tasted at work and it was delish! You fry up several slices of bacon, then shred a head of cabbage and saute' it in the drippings and bacon. Put a lid on, and cook slowly until the cabbage starts to get tender, then pour about 3/4 cup of heavy cream over the whole thing and let it simmer until the cabbage is done. Don't sweat it, MW. The waffle iron isn't so bad. Anyone who has had children won't think there is much to it. Just a bit uncomfortable, that's all. I have shared this before but I will share it again with you. I saw a cartoon on the wall in my doc's office that had a man with his pants down standing, facing a machine which obviously had his privates squashed between two plates. The caption read, "If women ruled the world: The Man-O-Gram". haha
Want to ask you good folks to pray for Zach. He is having a tough time right now dealing with his mom's death. He is thinking about how Christmas used to be and how we all used to go looking at Christmas lights, etc. Right now his life is so stressful. He is making straight A's in school and just made the A team in basketball (also plays baseball), so while he is staying busy, he doesn't have any down time. He also does alot of chores at home. He was crying while talking to me on the phone tonight and it hurts to not be able to help him more. Please pray for him. He is carrying such a load for a 13 year old.
Tonight, when Bruce was out working on the fence, he saw some deer tracks (very unusual around here) and he looked up to see two deer on the property. Looked to be a doe and maybe her fawn. He couldn't believe his eyes. That just doesn't happen around here. About 4 blocks from us, there is 10 fenced acres that were used as a wildlife refuge for years and some of those deer must have gotten out and migrated to our area. Really neat to see and I hope they hang around for awhile.
Better go..

Oh my! I just saw such a goooood Christmas movie. It's called "Silent Night" with Linda Hamilton. It's set during WWII, 1944-Germany. She is a German mother who packs up her last surviving child and moves to the forest into her husband's hunting cabin on Christmas Eve. Not too long after, 3 lost American soldiers show up as one of them are wounded seriously. She takes them in under the condition there are no weapons in her cabin. Soon after, 3 German soldiers show up looking for shelter as the Americans are pushing closer. Eventually they are sharing food, stories and finally friendship. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested and this is actually based upon a real story. If any of you happen to have The Hallmark channel, keep an eye out for it. I'm sure they'll play it again before the season is over. If you don't have it, maybe it would be available at your local library or video store.
HAZEL, I believe that "dh" means "Dear Husband." I could be wrong, but I think that's the lingo. Also, dd means "dear daughter; ds means "dear son" and so forth. Some of it gets pretty involved like ROTFLMAO--I won't post the whole thing but it starts with "rolling on the floor laughing..." The first time I received that in an email, it took me forever to figure it out and plus, it's on the salty side, if you know what I mean!
How wonderful about the deer. Keep a look out BOO, maybe you can snatch a picture or two. Also, how is Mr. Knickers? Is he doing ok?

Good evening, all. auh2o, I remember that line from "The Homecoming" very well. We were watching it with our children, and when that line was delivered, we all about fell off our chairs. Then to compound the shock, Patricia Neal (the mom) responded to Elizabeth with "Well, ARE you a p#ssant?" Elizabeth answered that she didn't feel like one, and her mom said "Well, don't worry about it, then" or something to that effect. From that day on, when one of the kids would come in tattling about somebody's verbal insult to them, we would ask that question, fully worded, no punches pulled. Every time, a little spine would stiffen, a little jaw would jut out, and the insulted one would march back outside and tell the offender that "Mom said not to worry about what you said!" Amazingly effective. Since the term was never used in our household at any other time, the effect was compounded.
Hazel, I haven't tried Starr on the baby carrots yet. Her little teeth are so tiny, I'm not sure she could chew them up. Her front teeth are just barely visible, not much bigger than a dash (-) on a printed page, and her little fangs are less than a quarter-inch long. Her molars are adequate, but still very small. The kibble she eats is tiny pieces, about the size of a split pea, and she gets 1/4 cup, three times a day, though she usually doesn't eat the mid-day meal. I'm thinking I may wait until her permanent teeth come in, before I introduce the carrots.
Well, it's getting late, and I have to be up early to get Starr to Dr. Mike for her rabies shot in the morning, so guess I'll turn in. Be blessed, everyone! --Romeena

Morning dears. Good Friday to all. Whew, been a long week ain't it?
Hey auh2o, that second quote is from Home Alone. I always crack up at the old gangster movies Kevin is watching. "Merry Christmas you filthy animal (bang) and a Happy New Year (bang)".
Romeena, it will be interesting to see if Starr will like carrots like the Plum did. Sammy (our first Doxie) would eat anything but he would have sold his soul for a hot dog. He loved hot dogs like there was no tomorrow. Barney on the other hand, although enjoying hotdogs, is nuts about potatoe chips. If he hears the bag opening he comes running and jumping ang carrying on like crazy. He goes nuts over them. Funny to watch.
I'm not to good with the computer lingo stuff either. It has taken me a while to try and figure it out. Homemaker used to end her posts with TTFN and I never knew what that was until just recently. Now she doesn't do it any more. (I thought it was some secret code that meant she was cooking meatballs tonight)
Hey New Neighbor, prayers continue for Meredith. Hope she's feeling better.
Boo, to bad Barney's not close by. I hear he knows deer talk. He can talk to birds so I know he can talk to deer.
I had not heard about the deal that had gone on by you MT. How sad. My prayers to all involved.
Well I best be off to work. They are changing the marquee on the the Grand today. I think I'll go get the businessmans special at the Diner then go watch them change the marquee. I'll make an afternoon of it.

That one's from "A Christmas Story" (Ralphie's fantasy about the grade he would receive on his 'theme').
MW, Mr Knickers is going just great, thanks for asking. He hasn't grown one bit so I guess he is fully grown, just a small rabbit. He's pretty smart and gets excited when anyone goes near the refrigerator (kind of like Asa's dog with the chip bag). He is used to getting a carrot or some lettuce when someone opens the frige. Cute little guy! BTW (ha, got to use the abbreviation), I have seen the movie you mentioned a few years ago and it was good.
Thanks for the poem, TOM. Very nice.
Better get Erin up for school.

Romeena-When we watched that movie with our girls I made sure to pay attention when that scene came up. They were a shocked too, which made me happy. I would hate to think that would be familiar language for them.

I hope you guys are right about our support for Israel. And auh2o, I understand about not supporting them just because they are Israel. I mean, if they started doing something really diabolical, we could not and should not support them in good conscience.
Have any of you seen "A Face In The Crowd", starring our own Andy Griffith. I'm sure someone has.
I was channel surfing last night when I came upon two guys on TCM(I think it was, anyway it was channel 43). One was the host and the other was that guy from Devo who does music for a lot of shows now. Anyway, they were talking about how this role was the exact opposite of Andy Taylor, in that he was a darker character in this movie, so naturally I had to watch it. And it was pretty good. I didn't get to watch the whole thing though, since it was still going at 11pm and I was tired, but I think I just missed the tale-end. When I left he was raving like a lunatic about how people loved him and how he was going to change the world, all to a laugh track provided by his friend from jail.
For those who haven't seen it, Andy plays a hard-drinking, womanizing ne'er-do-well, who charms a woman reporter enough that she does a story about him, and he becomes a television sensation and just gets bigger and bigger, until the inevitable downfall.
A pretty good, interesting movie in all. And nice to see Andy doing a different type character. Though he still does have a lot of country charm and still plays guitar.
Just got our first significant snow last night. Woke up to white ground. I guess raking up those leaves is out of the question now.

your choice of dressings ( I am trying to take care of our health needs with the salad) cornbread, crutons for the soup/salad. tea, kool aid to drink. For dessert a fresh apple cake. Again, note the "apple" in the cake.. should be almost healthy for us.
We are going to put our tree up this week end and watch the SEC football game on TV. Go VOlS!
Glad you checked on M-T, been wondering about you this week.

Good morning everyone. It’s supposed to get colder here (yes, Maryland, HAZEL) this weekend, and I’ve got plenty of leaves to get raked before we get snow, which could come as early as next week. It probably won’t amount to very much this early, though.
I’ve enjoyed all your Christmas movie quotes. I’m not as ept as most of you at remembering them, but here’s one: “If my wife can have a big headache tomorrow surely you can have a little one tonight.”
I’ve seen “A Christmas Story” a few times and found it enjoyable but don’t consider it the classic that most people do. My fave ridiculous Christmas flick is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” The Mrs. really likes “White Christmas.”
STERLING: I've seen "A Face in the Crowd." Andy received great critical acclaim for his portrayal. He is a psycho in it, ain't he? Definitely a mile away from Andy Taylor. It is a good flick for all who haven't seen it. They play it on TCM from time to time.
BOO: I’ve had to wear the same shorts two days in a row. Now what if I was in an accident?
Here's my poor effort at a moulage...I have to ask a question: can you imagine Christians taking to the streets demanding the death penalty for someone who mocked or profaned the name of Christ? Or Jews doing the same if Moses was mocked? I guess I just don't get the Moslems who consider it righteous to take to the streets to demand the execution of the British teacher who allowed her Moslem student to name the class teddy bear Mohammed. These thousands of protesters aren't terrorists or anything, just regular folks. How can they claim they practice a "religion of peace?" Well, there goes.
Thanks for all your prayers. I’ll try and stop back later. I’ve got a pile on my desk this high…

I know, I was watching that coverage of the teacher and the teddy bear. Makes me sick at my stomach but at the same time I greatly rejoice in the grace of the One True God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is full of GRACE and truth! Thank the Lord that we are freed from the demands of the law and serve a loving God. How sad that there are so many religious zealots out there so full of hate.
Auh2o, I don't recoginize the "madness" quote but it sounds familiar.

Hey, I have question for those of you who do the grocery shopping for your family. Have any of you ever used those on-line printable coupons? I looked at a couple of those sites and you have to install something to be able to print the coupons. What I am wondering is if I do that, will I get all kinds of spam and pop-ups? I am paranoid because not long ago, Bruce logged onto a site to get results of a sports event and it gave my computer a terrible virus, even though we had the stuff that is supposed to prevent it...hope that was understandable. My computer lingo is not so hot.

Hi Porch gang! BIG MAUDE, lunch sounds scrumpdiliocious! You always cook the best stuff.
M-T, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'll never understand the things they do and find acceptable in the name of religion. Never in a million years.
BOO, that would be Clark in a "Christmas Vacation." Don't you just love it when Cousin Eddy is outside emptying his RV toilet into the storm sewer?
I just got back from doing a little Christmas shopping at our local Target. As I was getting out of my vehicle, I heard some raised voices and looked over just a few spots away from mine. A man and woman were arguing over a parking space. Apparently one person pulled in front of the other taking the available space. Things started getting heated and I heard some cursing. Mind you, I have my 2 year old with me who could moonlight as a Parrot. She will say anything she hears, especially new words that she doesn't hear at home. Being disgusted that 2 grown adults are fighting over something as trivial as a parking space, I have just had it! I've had it with people being ugly especially during the Holy season. I mean, Gee Whiz, I would bet my life savings (which isn't a lot) on the fact that these folks are respected and probably attend Sunday services. As I was passing them, I stopped and said "Excuse me, but perhaps this is a good time to remind you that Christmas is a celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ. Remember the baby Jesus? (as I swung my arms back in forth in a rocking motion) Then I just went on my merry way. I didn't hear any more comments but that doesn't mean someone didn't have a hand signal or something behind my back. I probably should just keep my mouth shut but I just get sick of the ugliness when people are out shopping for Christmas. I really try to be even nicer, kinder and polite this time of year, because Christmas makes me want to be a better person. It makes me so grateful to know that we were given the best gift we could ever hope for. And I want to honor that gift by trying to be a better person. Whether you are a Christian or not, that's a worthy goal, in my opinion.
Alright, I'll shut up now. I just had to share that with my friends. Better get some lunch going for the Parrot. She eats like a bird but squawks when lunch isn't on time! Have a great day everyone! Love, Merri W.

I've never used those online coupons, Boo. I know my sister has and she hasn't had any problems with them, or with the sites she gets them from.
But of course she has a Mac and they are supposed to be better when it comes to not getting computer viruses, apparently.
Is what it is asking you to download one of those activex things? I know you have to be careful with those because they can hide unwanted software that gets installed in your computer. I think like mostly adware, but they can also hide viruses from the unscrupulous ones. Maybe you can to a search of the coupon company site. Sometimes if you put in their name on the "search for questions" box on Yahoo Answers, it will bring up someone else who asked a question about them or had a problem with them.
Sorry homemaker, don't know any potato soup recipes, but that sure sounds good right about now.

Good evening, all. Me-They, that was indeed a poor effort at a moulage, because I don't think anyone here would do anything but agree with you. Imagine all that fuss about naming a teddy bear after their prophet. Why is that any worse than naming a bunch of scruffy, snotty-nosed ragamuffins who are terrorists-in-training, after him? You know practically every kid on their streets is named Mohammed. From what I know about that prophet, there could be a lot worse things said about him than that a teddy bear was named after him. I do not understand those people at all. Now we have that poor girl in Saudi Arabia who is about to receive 200 lashes and a jail term because she was found sitting in a car, with a man who was not a relative. Never mind that the ones who found her with the man pulled her from the car and proceeded with a gang rape - six Muslim men, as I understand it. The men are being punished as well, but not nearly so severely as the girl. Seems that raping a woman is not nearly as reprehensible a deed as sitting in a car with a man who is not your relative.
To look at America today, one has to mourn the loss of moral integrity, modesty, and just plain decent behavior. However, we don't beat someone nearly to death with cane rods and then throw them in jail because they had the nerve to be in the presence of an unrelated male without a chaperone. And yes, 200 lashes with that cane could very possibly kill her. It will at the very least leave her bruised, bleeding, and incapacitated for some time, and probably permanently scarred. It's barbaric, and in my opinion (IMHO) it's just as immoral as some of the things they hate about us, if not more so. OK, Me-They, there's my contribution to your moulage.
Well, guess I'll go rustle up some grub. Back later! --Romeena
