MDC - we have take care of both sets of parents so far. We felled a big jack oak on Saturday and got it split up for my parents (it made about 3-4 rick for them) and my inlaws ended up with about 7-8 rick. Now it is our turn. With all the rain - it won't be this weekend, probably the beginning of November. We are also getting ready to have some goats kid and some sheep lamb. I just love babies.
Lucy - my boys just keep on getting bigger. My oldest will be 11 on Monday. He is about 5'5", 170 pounds, size 13 shoes - he is a long way from the preemie I brought home at 4 lbs. 3 oz. My youngest will be 10 in December and he is a little smaller than big brother but still pretty tall for his age. He is in 9-10 shoes already so not far behind his brother at all.
Prayers for my niece in California. She is ready to evacuate if needed. They have everything packed just in case. Her husband is a Navy pilot so they can seek refuge on the base (according to my brother).
Talk to you all tomorrow - and act like somebody!

On an uplifting note, all is well here in south central TX. Fall has finally come...90's last week and now nice and cool. Feed the deer when I got in and sat out with them for a few hours normally. Tonight Spike came in for his regular scoop with me holding it. Usually he will take breaks and look me in the face and we communicate, I talk of which he knows nothing, but he does listen. The rut season is here now....tonight when he looked me in the face, he started to pant a few times and looked over the herd in the yard...did it again and almost had a smile on his face. God's creatures are great.
May be spring before we have the Texas convention, but this evening would have been wonderful and there is a almost full moon out.
I do read all the messages and prayers for all the are in need. Let us thank Him for all the great wonderfull things he has given us.

Hey guys, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but could you all continue to pray for my hubby and me regarding our little one being cut from the play. We are trying so hard to maintain a Christlike witness. It is frustrating to go to rehearsals and see the politics involved. Our little one seems oblivious to it and our 2 older ones are just excited about being on stage. I know it isn't just me if my levelheaded hubby senses it. KWIM? Anyway, I've given it over to the Lord and I keep taking it back. I mean why do I expect these folks to act appropriately . For pete's sake, the adults in the play meet at a bar every Wednesday and the director buys them all a round of drinks. Don't get me wrong there are some good people in this play, but not all. Anyway, I hope I'm not being like a giraffe and being selfish:-). I believe that GOd can use this to build character in me. Pray that I will allow Him. It seems that lately that is what I'm majoring it, character building.

Busy, busy day. I like them. And I kinda don't too. It makes me feel good to be so productive but it also makes me feel like the day has flown by and maybe I've missed something important like my 2 year old's sweet laugh or watching my oldest practice her cart wheels. Do you ever feel like life is just whizzing by and you're afraid that before you know it, your kids are grown and gone? I guess I'm just feeling sentimental tonight--I was organizing pictures from this weekend of my girls and then I came across some from this time last year and it seems like it was just a breath away. One year. Gone. I am just going to keep trying to live in the moment and appreciate all those little things that make your insides light up but have a hard time explaining why!
OPIEMOM, I think you are showing absolute grace not only to the adults who are behaving inappropriately but more importantly to your children. That's what I'd focus on. You can't control what other people do...you can only control how you react to it, or not react for that matter. Sounds like you're doing a fine job.
REV, when you get a chance, I'd sure love to hear more about Maine. When I was young, I had planned on moving to Maine, live on the sea side, open my own B&B. I also planned, at other times, to move to London, Seattle, New Orleans (got accepted to Tulane), Des Moines (had a friend in school), Chicago, Boise (wanted to live on a ranch for awhile), Montreal, Savannah, Minneapolis and somewhere up near the Great Lakes. I moved to St. Louis for a few years and then moved back home, met my husband, revisited those grand ideas, had kids, moved to the country. Whew! What a list.
RAY, reading about you feeding Spike just made me smile. You sure do know how to appreciate God's blessings!
RO, Starr is just precious! So adorable! I'm so glad you two found each other.
GOODNIGHT HM, MDC, NN, M-T, TOM, BOO, SPOT and to everyone else! Rest well and I wish you all blessings and PEACE. Love to you and yours. Merri W.

Merri W., you are so right about a year flying by. Funny how every years seems to pass by quicker than the last. I try to focus on what matters for eternity and passing on "the light" to the children. You know, the other day in church, our pastor Mark was trying to illustrate a point and he asked people to raise their hands and share a special memory from childhood, and of course, everyone said something about time spent with a parent. No big surprise.
Better finish my coffee and get Erin up for school. The weather here is perfect!!

Hi porch. I saw all this talk of calling each other "honey", but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Like Barney said, I'd rather be called Skunkface, than Honey like that! hehe!
I haven't had time to post the last couple days. Rev, I saw where you said you were thinking about me on Monday and prayed for me. Well, probably about that time I was sitting beside my husband in the Intensive Care room at the hospital. He had a heart attack Sunday afternoon. I was up at the hospital until almost midnight Sunday night, and between work and the hospital, I've been pooped. I thank you for the prayers, and thank God that there are people like you who pray for people like me. They did a 3 hour "proceedure" and cleaned out his arteries, and put a balloon or some such thing in one of them. Anyhow, they kept him in ICU for 2 days, and actually released him last night! He is so happy to be home, and seems to be doing well. I can't believe they released him so soon, but the doc said he was stable, didn't need to be on IV's anymore, and sent him home with drugs and instructions of what he can and can't do, and stuff like that. Anyhow, I thank God so much for saving my husband. The doctor said if we had waited much longer to get him to the emergency room that it would have been a much different story. (Hubby wouldn't let me call 911; didn't want to make a big deal out of it... and the hospital is only 5 minutes away). I made him chew an asprin and my son dashed him to the ER. (I still can't drive, because of my recent surgery) Anyhow, that's my story. I wanted to check in, but couldn't find the words.
Nice to see the old Rev back, now known as Jr. I still want to try some of your barbeque sauce.
It's cold here, I finally turned our heat on the first time yesterday. It had been in the 40's, but it dropped down to 36, so I bit the bullet and turned it on. I usually like to hold out until November 1st just to save money, but I guess I'm getting old. When you can see your breath in the house, I guess it's time.

BOO!: To answer your question from the other day, no, I don't pray often enough for our country. You'd think I'd be well-reminded, too, with MDC around ;). I'm putting that on my "needs improvement" list as well.
Now, because I don't want too many days to pass without a good moulage, I also will say in response to your "deep thoughts" that I don't necessarily believe that things are getting worse. Some things definitely are; but some things are definitely better--just talk to someone in their 90s who lived a hard life. More kids may be getting into trouble (maybe), but less die as infants.
It's funny, especially in my research days, I have had many ocassions to read 19th century newspapers. (A side note, for all those who believe newspapers today are biased, you should read 19th century newspapers! Some of the stories would curl your hair.) Do you know what people complained about? Kids, schools, politicians, war, etc. I read a letter to the editor recently from someone complaining about poor school fiscal responsibility and anti-God messages being taught--the letter was published in 1877. Disasters happened then, same as now. In the past, we were less populated and didn't hear about every single event across the planet. Now, a mudslide in California kills a hiker and I hear about it clear across the country ten minutes later on CNN.
The droughts are terrible, but have happened many times before. The difference is that where droughts were once mainly agricultural phenomena, now they affect so many more. Increased population, increased industrial use of water, and cities growing in the dessert (hey, MDC!) have changed the nature of how we view drought. And there are actually less violent earthquakes now than there was 100 years ago.
Wars, too, have always been fought, and have always been brutal. For all who think today's are especially gruesome, imagine two armies fighting solely hand-to-hand with axes, swords, knives, and clubs.
God created the planet; we continue to mess it up. That doesn't change. God blesses the Godly, but (except in the case of ancient Isreal) we don't enjoy a blanket national mercy promise. No, Christianity is a personal relationship with our Creator, not a national compact. We will be judged individually, and blessed in the same manner. At least that's my opinion. :)

Good to see you, M-T. Wonder what that guy who published that letter in 1877 would think if he atteneded high school in 2007. Wow! There have always been problems, but as you pointed out, with the increasing population, there are problems of a different kind. Guess there will always be wars, and rumors of. I remember watching Braveheart for the first time and thinking about how brutal the fighting was! Give me an automatic rifle any day.
I remeber years ago, one of the obstetricians I worked with told me about a book he was reading. I don't remember which century he was referring to but he said that many years ago, many families didn't even name or infants or include them in family portraits until they were 2 yrs old because infant mortality was so high. Imagine!

The EMT's revived him and he's been in ICU until this morning. He had been deprived of oxygen so long that he wasn't going to recover. My friend, along with her siblings, had to make the very difficult decision to take him off life support. He passed away shortly after. She is just distraught, understandably. Merri W....Maine is a very nice place. A lot of untouched land in the northwestern part of the state. In some ways, it's behind the times and I don't mean that in a bad way because that can be a good thing. A lot of hunting, fishing, hiking and anything nature. Of course in the winter, snowmobiles are everywhere. Winters are hard here and you can see the affects of it on the roads and structures. As for Christianity, it's not as open as the south because it's not as many practicing Christians here. I tour this area each year and love coming up here. Good morning, all. Merri W, certainly I'll pray for Jan and her family. That was a very difficult decision for her and her family to make, and there will be repercussions. Guilt will creep in, they'll question if they did the right thing, and natural grief will be the backdrop for all of that. I just pray that no misguided person makes comments that make it worse. With both of my parents, at the end time my brother and I had to make the decision not to employ heroic measures, and in both cases, there were those who tried to "guilt" us about it. Fortunately, we had their signed living wills to wave under the noses of the questioners, but we would have made the same decision even without that.
Me-They, I think you're right. Things aren't really that much worse, we just know more about it, thanks to the sensation-mongers in the media. There are some issues that are more knotty, thanks to the PC crowd, but generally it's not much different today.
Hazel, bless your little heart! I'm so sorry to hear about the big scare you and your beloveded went through, but am so glad it's turning out well. Incidentally, Shamu (the cat next door) wishes to thank you. He was in my yard again, the miserable little wretch, but I was so engrossed in reading your post that I didn't see him until too late. So, he got to go home dry today. (heehee)
Ray, it's wonderful, the relationship you have with those deer. I would enjoy that so much. About the best I can manage here in the middle of town is to get friendly with the squirrels, and provide feed for them and the birds, and put out corn and melon rinds for the raccoon. The possum noses around the rinds too, but am not sure he eats any. I think he prefers insects and grubs.
Well, off I go. Have to work tonight and tomorrow night, so I need to rake this house out and clean it up a bit today. Eloise and I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday, and I got some pretty fall foliage and little gourds and pumpkins and such - amazing what they can do with silk these days, and it was all 50% off. I've got a couple of pretty arrangements made from it, but hate to just plunk them down in the clutter, so it's time to clean house.
Boo, I think that illustrates what you must feel when those girls leave the center. Some of them have been made new and beautiful by God while they were there, but now they have to go back into the clutter and disarray of their old surroundings. That has to make your heart ache.
Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

My hubby is only 45 and replacement knees are only good for 10 years (or 100,000 miles) so, we thought the osteotomy would help. The doc said that a partial replacement is only good for little old ladies over 60 and weigh less than 120 pounds. So - really only two options were given to us. Anyway - there is no cartilege left in the knee (left knee that is) and so it swells and just about gives way all of the time. The doctor wasn't for sure how he was walking. Cortisone and rooster comb shots will not even touch the pain according to the doctor.
Okay Spot - how was Paducah? Are you out of the rain yet? Songs for your segment. . ."Kansas City, Kansas City here I come. . ." You can have blues stuff going - featuring SPot on the slide trombone!

Your poor husband, HM! That sounds just terrible. Certainly hope they can do something to help him.
Right, Romeena, I find it hard to imagine that they can go back and continue to stay clean BUT, I know that with God all things are possible. One of the girls who is leaving this week is one I mentioned a few months ago. She was raped by her mother's boyfriend while mom held her down. I am particulary concerned for her. At bible study last night she just help onto me, sat by me and laid her little head on me. I know she's afraid to leave. I have to put her in the Lord's good hands and pray. She is like one of those flower arrangements you talked about. A beautiful angel with big blue (sad) eyes.
Went over my test results with my doc and she agrees that I shouldn't need a heart cath by what she read in the reports but she would love me to get the cat scan (which my insur@nce doesn't cover!...if the government was paying my medical bills I could get it, but since I pay for insur@nce, I'm out of luck). She is having her nurse look into insur@nces that will so when it's time to take another look at insur@nce before we renew, we can consider that. This particular scan is supposed to be really incredible and can tell you just what's going on in your arteries. She did tell me to take fish oil. First time she ever suggested anything natural...
Good afternoon Dr P.

Good afternoon folks. STill raining here.
HM: You're glad about my shorts? Well, I'm not so happy about wearing the same shorts two days in a row.
Sorry to hear about your hubby. He'll be in my prayers. Justy don't go ironing his pants; he doesn't need hot knees on top of everything else.
BOO: You are such a blessing to those girls. It bothers me so much that there are kids out there who are witnesses or victims of such evil. I don't think I could do what you do. But I know that you're strength comes from the Lord.
Are we allowed to say obstetrician? ;)

Hey, all. Just dropping by to say hi! Gotta work tonight and tomorrow night, argh! I've already checked, the place is running over, lots of little anchor babies being born. I'll be running from room to room, to women who aren't even my patients, because they speak not a word of English. I'm not fluent, but I have enough Spanish to get by. Maybe our PCA who speaks good Spanish will be working tonight. She will meet their needs better than I would, and my shift will be less hectic.
Good grief, Boo! That's just pitiful. I hope the mom and the "boyfriend" are far, far back in the jail. Where will the child go? How old is she? Please tell me she's not going back to live with that monstrous woman.
Well, guess I'll go try to catch a little nap. It will be a long time until I get home in the morning at 8 a.m. I tried to sleep late this morning, but kept waking up.
Blessings, everyone --Romeena

Ro, the girl you asked me about is 15, I think...hard to remember all of their ages. Last I heard the boyfriend and mom were awaiting trial. I believe she is going to a foster home, which isn't a great comfort, either. One of the girls has been in foster for a long time because mom is an addict and she runs from every foster home they put her in. She's what they call a "runner"...some foster homes can be pretty bad. Hope your night is not as difficult as you predict.

Hey, Tom, I'm ri-chere! Just got in from work - another doozy of a night. Finally settled down about 4 a.m. and wasn't bad after that. Honestly, it just makes me crazy. So many of the people we're serving now just have no smart at all. At 2 a.m., there are droves of people camped in the waiting room, little kids running everywhere, yelling and scuffling in the hall, all seemed to have colds - and what about school in the morning? Now the parents will be griping because their children aren't being taught, when the poor little things are bound to be so tired they can't hold their heads up. Mom is in labor, so dad brings the first five or six kids with him to wait it out at the hospital, because there is no one to leave them with. Sounds like a great reason to add one more, doesn't it? The kids are half-sick, half-dressed, and look hungry. Too thin, hollow eyes, dirty hair - and golly, mama, let's have some more!! Makes me sick. The poor little things have no chance. They'll quit school along about sixth grade, and will have nothing but the most menial jobs for the rest of their lives, unless they turn to dealing drugs to make money. Pitiful.
Well, I need to hit the hay. Gotta go back tonight for more of the same. You know, I remember when nursing was fun. What happened? --Romeena

Beautiful, clear, crips fall day here today. Not a cloud in the bright blue sky.
Well, I didn't mention it yesterday, but my dad called me and said his knee "went out" again yesterday while he was in the grocery store with mom. I went over to help him and he seemed better by the time I left. He called this morning and said he was in terrible pain so I called the ortho doc who put his prosthetic knees in 15 years ago and they told me to take him to the ER. How I am going to talk him into that, I just don't know! I'm meeting my nephew over there in a minute to talk Dad into it. I am afraid the old knee is "kaput" and can't even imagine putting him through another knee replacement at 81.
I'll let ya know how it goes.

I am not really a Sox fan but there is a Cincy boy playing for them and well - he was an underdog in high school and college. It's just one of those touchy, feely, kind of makes you feel good things that if you work hard, you can succeed.
Boo! - so sorry about your dad. I will pray for you and him.
Rover - er, I mean Spot, glad you arrived! Remember to act like somebody while you are there!
Rev - you be careful up there in the northeast. I have heard all sorts of undesire-ables live up there - won't mention any names. . . . .(like M-T) :)

Oh, Romeena, I know what you mean about the kiddos at the hospital. I get so mad when I see people with their children at Wal-mart at 10:00 at night. The kiddos are fussy (understandable they need to be at home) and then the parents or boyfriends. yell at them. GRRRR! I've said something occaisionally. Sometimes I'm afraid they'll follow me out to my car though. You never know in this day and age.
Just the other day, a man came out of the library with what appeared to be a 3 year old. We were waiting in the car for another of my children. THe words that man used on the 3 yo made me so mad. More than likely he was the mother's boyfriend. I always think if that is how the children are treated in public, what goes on at home?

HM- Kevin Youkilis, the first baseman for the Red Sox, played here in my hometown for the Florence Red Wolves in the Coastal Plain League. It's a league for college players. He was here in the summer of '99. Matter of fact, the Red Wolves auctioned off his signed Red Sox batting practice jersey this summer that he had donated. All the money from the auction went to charity.

Jr. - thanks for the rest of the story. . .they were talking about him on the Cincy station the other morning. There is a player on the Sox from Louisville too. Really like that town's news better. Ro, if you can you should plan to not work around a full moon and believe today is it.
I have never found any explanation for of it, but the next time you notice people driving irratically and notice wrecks....check your calendar if it will probably be a day or two around a full moon. A long time back a DPS (Texas Department of Public Safety) officer lived next door to us. One time chatting over the fence just in jest asked how business was. He replied that it had been slow that week, but the next would be very heavy. How did he know that? He explained that there was going to be a full moon on the first of the month. When it fell on the first or fifteenth (payday for many) they were swamped with accidents and planned for it.
Part of my business was selling health care communications (nurse call etc) to hospitals. I learned that they staffed heavier in the ER & OB during a full moon.
Tuesday and yesterday of this week there were auto accidents I saw on the way home. This morning at 6:15 driving in at the speed limit of 60 on a two lane road with no passing strips was passed by some little red Jap car doing much faster than me. Must really have gotten him somewhere faster since we were approaching a traffic signal.
Any theories on this would be appreciated, never been able to come up with any myself, just been an observer.
ray
Anyone have any good explaination?
