Good Noon Porch,
We finally got a teensy bit of rain here in Ga. We need a TON more, but the Lord will provide.
I've been baking this morning. I made some homemade bread, cheddar biscuits, and am about to make some oatmeal raisin cookies, want some?
MDC- I'm so glad to hear that everything's okay. I had some blood work done and need to see a cardiologist, but keep putting it off. Bryan's supplementing me with Vitamin E, Fish oils, and something for inflammation.
Rev- Glad to hear everything's going well.
Mavis- You sound as happy as can be. I'm so thrilled! Praise the Lord for your brother.
Possum- I'm glad that you have more support in your family. I think the baby's of the family cause more trouble (although opposite in my family because I'm the baby and I'm just an angel, ha). I watch Joel Osteen all of the time. My husband says he's like a Christian motivational speaker, which is positive for him.
Boo- Bryson would love some chili cheese dogs. That's what he always buys at Sonic. I'm glad you're getting nitrate free things. That's really important! I can tell a difference in Bryson when he's had too many chemicals.
Spot- Lunch sounds great! Have you tried Panorama's apple fritters in Ellijay? Yummy!
Whoever is being mean to George needs to remember that 2 wrongs don't make a right and that's just very un-TAGS.
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy

Good morning everyone. Well, after reading the archives for the last few days all I can say is that given that I'm not feeling very Christian at the moment, I'd better cut this short and pray about that.
I'll have to save most of my comments for later but I will throw in that (1) I don't really feel like the word I was referring to was terribly bad, though I confess I wouldn't use it to the kids or my pastor in the hand-shaking line. But I thought I could use it in the mood I was in around my adult friends. As for you, GEORGE, as far as I'm concerned you're a stranger. Now, if I offended anyone I actually know with my comment, I apologize.
BOO, I do think I understand AUH2O's last, crytic message. I believe he's feeling the way I am right now, that there's so much drama on the porch it's almost like work thinking about what you can say and how to say it. You'd think the porch was litered with eggshells to something.
Not to sound insensitive, but I've said before that no one is deliberately stepping on anyone else's feeling around here. If I or someone else does step too hard, let us know and we'll apologize. But for heaven's sake, some of us need to stop leaving their feelings laying all over the place waiting for them to get stepped on.
Prayers for all of you today. Please do the same for me.
And, GEORGE, when I need convicting, the Lord will do it, thanks. He doesn't need an assistant.

Special well wishes go out to M-T this morning! And like you M-T, I understood AUH2O perfectly. I've said it before and I'll say it again, no one here has ever offended me by anything they've said.
Well, is anyone in the mood for a slightly humorous story this morning? We took the kiddies back to a pumpkin patch yesterday afternoon so that all four of us could enjoy it as a family this time. It was a gorgeous but warm Fall day with lots of wind. A tractor came around to take us out to the fields for pumpkin picking. On the way through, this farm has their fields dressed in a kid-friendly haunted house theme. There was lots of ooohing and awwwing with every turn of the tractor. They even had Linus out in one of the pumpkin fields waiting for "The Great Pumpkin!" The tractor driver was telling us all sorts of stories while giving us the haunted tour. At one point, we were able to jump off and take the kiddies through a hay bale maze. My #2 gherkin was tired of traipsing through it so she decided to cut out the middle man and just climb over the bales of hay. (She's not known for her patience, kinda like her mama...) Anywho, everyone was finished with the maze and proceeded to climb back up on the wagon. Did I mention it was a real breezy day? I had put on a big sun hat cuz I have delicate skin and don't like to get it freckled. Actually, I just didn't feel much like doing my hair so on went the big hat. Most of the gang was sitting towards the front of the wagon while I kept watch at the back making sure no one sat too close to the gate. Hubby was juggling our 7 rolling pumpkins and the two gherkins. Bless his heart. We took a corner around this giant inflatable pumpkin and the wind caught my hat. It whipped it right off so as the driver slowed almost to a dead stop as everyone was ooohing and awwwing again at some display, I jumped off real quick, like a cat, grabbed my hat, turned around to jump back on when the pocket on the backside of my gauchos caught a corner of some splintered wood on the gate of the wagon. I know you all are just sitting there gasping with air waiting to hear what happened next. Of course the driver took off again with my hiney pocket attached to the gate but I wasn't aboard yet. Sadly, to get loose from the wagon gate, I had to give my britches a stern yank and ripped that pocket almost clean off. I managed to not so sophisticatedly climb back on the wagon. Not feeling very much like a cat, I kept that hat behind my back for the rest of our afternoon at the pumpkin pickin' patch. True story. Unfortunately. Hey! At least my kids are too young right now to be embarrassed by me--yet!
I want to say HEY to all the ladies, so good to hear from you. And to the gents of the Porch, HEY to you all, too! I know you all are getting hungry for lunch but I've already planned dinner: tater tot casserole, steamed whole green beans, cottage cheese and peaches (optional for those who don't like c.c.) and hot wheat rolls. Don't have a dessert planned for tonight but since we're pretty chilly out today, thought I'd make some homemade hot cocoa. Sound good? Help thy self!
Have a great day everyone. Love you all!

Hello everyone.
Hello Tom. I feel uncomfortable posting this but I believe that it is important.
After reading some of your past postings I am a little confused. In your posting 57024, you asked the folks here to stop talking about a certain word. I see nothing wrong with your request and I will follow it.
Then George said in posting 57164 "the mention of ugly words, even if they are just the first letter" are offensive to him.
You replied with posting 57208 where you said that we have the right to say what is on our minds.
You also said in posting 57276 "so GEORGE stop thinking that you can run this porch that way you feel. Because we have the right to say thing the way we want to".
With all due respect to you Tom, are you saying that it is OK for you to ask that we stop using a certain word here but George can't ask for the same thing? If this is true, isn't that unfair? Please understand that I am talking about George's actual request and not the blunt way he asked.
I am interested in comments from Tom and anyone else. Is their anything wrong with my reasoning?

Good afternoon, all. Poor Horatio, since you did invite others to respond, I think maybe I can shed some light on the situation. While it's true that Tom did ask that we quit making references to feet, I think he has re-thought that request and tacitly withdrew it. I think he now realizes that it's not fair for one person to try to control the conversation of the whole porch. Am I right, Tom? --Romeena

I think you struck onto something there, MDC, whether you realize it or not. Indeed, there were tender as well as tense moments in TAGS. I would not have found the show nearly as good if it had struck a happy medium and not showed those different extremes. Life is rarely "medium."
I love you folks, but I'm just not ready to limit my posts to mere chit-chat. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Lydia and love innocuous chit-chat from time to time. But many of the things we discuss here are way deeper than that. As AUH2O and I have pointed out, who is arbiter of which difficult or serious subjects we can discuss here?
I'm not perfect. There, I said it. But neither was Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee, or any of the gang. In the episode, "Barney and the Chain Letter," I wonder if GEORGE or anyone else laughs at the scene where Andy finds the girlie magazine at the dump and wonders who in Mayberry would take such a thing ("Barney!")? Well why are we all laughing? How unchristian! Since when is s*xual immorality funny? Well, I find humor in it because Barney is just being human (i.e. imperfect). I could name a whole lot of other examples, too. Seems kinda hypocrytical to champion such an "imperfect" show and then judge others so harshly.
Thanks to those above who encouraged me. And thanks for all your prayers. I'm thinking especially of you today, BOO. I'll keep all of you in my prayers.
I surely hope that AUH2O's last post wasn't his last post. With all the unnecessary drama around here lately (and I'm certainly not speaking of very real life circumstances that some of you have shared) I can't blame him.

Merri, to foil the bots, my addy is just my porch name at air mail dot net. No spaces. Since my filter won't recognize your address, it will be trapped, and I won't recognize it either, unless you put From and your porch name in the subject line. I'll see that.
It's cold, 53 degrees, and I just haven't turned the furnace on yet. It's 70 in the house, and won't get much colder. I like sleeping in a cool room anyway, so will not turn the furnace on until I have to. It will probably warm up a bit tomorrow anyway, so won't need it. This house is very well insulated - it takes about three days of pretty cold weather before it gets uncomfortable in here, and I'm loving the fact that neither furnace nor a/c is running at the moment. Yay! Of course, after little Starr gets here, I'll have to keep it pretty warm. She's so tiny, and she'll be on the floor a lot, where it's colder, and I can't risk her getting chilled. When you only weigh a couple of pounds, you don't have much insulation!

Ro, is it NOV 10th that Starr gets to come home?
Boy, really something about those fires in California.

I wanted to share something that I was thinking about this morning. I was thinking of the difficulties we are facing in this country; the war, gas prices (well, everything is expensive), there are just too many problems to list and we talk about the threat to our religious beliefs, the threat of Islam, terrorism, everything from killer staph to bird flu. Then we seem to have so many natural disasters. I have kind of stood back and had the attitude that, "Oh well, things are just going to keep getting worse. What can I do about it?". I like to think that it's all because of all the "other people" in this country who are doing "bad" things. Pretty hypocritical thinking. Anyway, I was kind of hit with the revelation that I don't pray for my own country. Rarely ever and, although I am hoping that i am the exception, I am wondering how many Christians do pray on a regular basis for our country and it's leaders. I am really going to try to do better, especially with the election looming. Just a thought I was thinking this morning. I have to believe prayer can make a difference.
Better go get Erin ready for school...

Barney: "Boy, giraffes are selfish." I'm going to try not to be a giraffe today!
October 23, 2007 - Msg 57335:
Well - I was thinking last night about this here porch and the moulage that has been on-going. And this is my summation. . .in Mayberry, we had Aunt Bea and Clara - they were the busybodies and they loved to gossip just a little bit. Sometimes we are like that.
Then there was Floyd and the boys at the barber shop, they talked about what was happening in the town, esp. when the mayor stopped by. They all had their opinions - sometimes we are like that.
Then there are the times that Barney arrests the whole town and Andy needs to straighten things out with perspective - Sometimes we are like that.
You see, this porch does function like a town. We may all be on the same porch but often times we visit other places in the town. We all get into a little mischief once in a while too. . .and that's okay.
I looked back at some of the archives last nite - from way back, and I have been on this porch for a lonnnnnng time. I have seen all kinds of traveling salesman pass by, new cosmotologists giving out manicures, a few who were on jail break as well - and we have still functioned like a small town.
In fact, do you remember the episode where the man comes to town and Mayberry was "his hometown" because he had read all the newspapers. Do you remember all the suspicions they had about him until he explained himself? Well all I can say is - that's how some people look at us and we look at them. Is it bad - no - but we function as a small town.
We even come together as a small town. Do you remember how the town banded together to help one another? There are several examples - some funny, some poignant - we have had that too.
George - I say this for you - this little cyber town has been through a lot in the past couple of months. I believe you have been reading some of the posts but I don't know for how long. And like the man who took Mayberry as his hometown, we felt that you judged us without really being part of us. And we in turn judged you the same. We have been through medical traumas on this porch, families breaking up, families forming, losing loved ones - we are here for one another - sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. But when one comes back, there is always a welcome rocker and a glass of lemonade waiting for you.
Sorry for my long post -
homemaker

Good Tuesday Porch family. Good to see everyone today. I have been laying low the past few days, and not posting much. I have been stopping by and keeping up with ya'll. Sometimes I think I don't really have interesting things going so I don't post. Been busy at work and of course with my kids. My son Patrick (almost 17) is now driving his "own" car. My husband had a 1984 jeep cherokee (it was the first car he bought out of college). My husbands brother refurbished it for us. It has a lot of miles on it but it good to go for a few more hopefully. With a new paint job and a lot of other work inside and out it looks pretty good. Please pray for Patrick's safety. He is driving to school (taking his sister to the middle school first) and then back home after football. Makes me very nervous and worried.
Thanks for lunch SPOT. Those crystal burgers lay heavy on my stomach though. I will take care of dinner tonight: fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, SLAW, homemade rolls, chocolate layer cake for dessert. coffee, tea or
kool aid to drink. see ya at supper. Prayers and blessings to all. Big Maude

Hello everyone.
homemaker, I could not have expressed myself any better than you did in Msg 57335. Thanks for reminding us.
Big Maude, I'll add Patrick to my prayer list.
Boo!, I love your exclamation point. It makes you appear unique, just like the type of lady you are.
MW and Spot, since you brought up the subject of White Castle hamburgers, I would like to report that my record for one sitting is ten double hamgurgers ... yes, that's right ... ten doubles. It was the only meal I had that day. My average for one sitting is four double hamburgers. But I have a habit of peeling away most of the bread and ordering it without the middle bun. Funny but I don't get any negative after effects like some of you.
For those of you who don't know what we are talking about, White Castle hamburgers are much smaller than your average fast food hamburger. Check out www.whitecastle.com/_pages/menu.asp. But don't let those pictures fool you. The sandwiches are not that tall. Advertising tends to exaggerate appearances.

Good Afternoon Porch,
I really hate to sound like I'm needing prayer all of the time, but right now our family is going through alot. I told y'all about my health issues and now Deani, Nick's crazy Mom (using that term loosely) is saying that she's going to take Bryan to court, call the authorities, and take Nick back. Nick got in trouble at school-detention-and so Deani sees this as a means to get him. She says that she will get sole custody and everything. Nick is very upset, naturally, and Bryan is just irritated that she keeps coming into our lives, and I'm just worried. The Lord will take care of all of this and I'm putting it into His hands. However, I need y'all to pray for this situation. If she takes Nick back in just 5 months he can choose where he wants to live and then he'd come back here again. His life will be more messed up than ever. He will probably become angry again as he was when he first came here 1.5 years ago. Well, that's all. I'll keep you updated.
Big Maude- If you hadn't shown up today I was going to put an APB out for you. I am going to try and make some crockpot apple butter and thought of you.
Homemaker- I really liked your post above. How are the boys and the goats?
Spot- Are there still any tornado watches in your area?
Jr- Ya know I've lived in GA for 12 years and have never had a Krystal burger! I grew up eating White Castles, which are pretty much the same thing. We called them belly bombers.
Boo- I honestly do not pray for our country enough. I need to add our country and our leaders in my prayer book.
Auh20- Check in when ya can. I have forgotten the names of the books your recommended. If you don't feel like posting, please email me them at brysonwgataoldotcom.
Me-They- Is Veda sleeping any better?
Well, I need to run. I can't seem to get anything accomplished today. Everything's just up in the air. Nick came back from his game with a cold and has been to the nurse twice so I have to pick him up early, sigh.
Y'all have a wonderful Tuesday.
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy

Poor Horatio, I'm impressed with your 10 double hamburgers! You must have been some kind of hungry!
Today, over lunch, I was watching "Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee" when I noticed the Taylor's bathroom for the first time! I know this isn't a big deal, but after all these years watching reruns, I've never noticed their bathroom. Opie was brushing his teeth and the bathroom was right across the hall from his room. There was a pedestal sink and mirror with one of those old fashioned hampers next to it. Didn't see the toilet but that probably wasn't considered proper! Anyway, just thought I'd share that.
HEY MDC! I love that episode with the lady prisoner. It's one of my faves.

Hello porch family...Just checking in real quick.
Ro & Spot....I'm still on the road...Not home yet. I'll be in Maine until Thursday then home on Friday. I get to stay home for a week then.
Boo...you're so right about us praying for our country and leaders. I have a prayer book that I write prayer request in, but I also have a section in it that I pray for everyday which includes our nation and leaders. It also includes our little porch here. It's a way to remind me of the needs that we face each day.
Big Maude...Good to see ya back. Those kids just grow up so fast.
Well said HM.
Lucy....Prayers for your family.
Spot...don't forget to pack your toothbrush.
Better get ready for the concert...Prayers for all and I'll try to check back tonight.

Trying to pare down the toys in preparation for Christmas.
How about Apple Crisp for dessert tonight?

Thank you for all of the kind words about my post. It seems every few months we have this moulage of people telling us how to act and that wouldn't have happened in Mayberry. And then we all get bent out of shape and start apologizing all over ourselves about how we need to change this and change that. Pretty soon - the person who started the moulage is gone and we go back to our pace and our usual selves.
Some of us have no other place to feel at home other than the porch. Some of us have no other place to belong other than the porch.
I know I can always count on a kind word here, some rib-tickling fun on occasion, and sometimes a sermonette.
I don't think anyone needs to change or move off of the porch. I don't think we need to be super sensitive either (the only one who needs super sensitivity is Barney and that was when he sang).
Me-They and Auh20 and George - there is room for all of us.
God Bless us all. . .

Prayers for that new driver at Big Maude's house - I remember those anxious days. Lucy, continuing prayers for you and yours - at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Five more months and Nick will not be on the end of her whip anymore.
Boo, Starr will come home on Nov. 6, the day after I return from Fredericksburg. I can hardly wait. Her picture is in the album now, under "Porchsters' Pets". She's pretty cute! She has a nice coat for only 12 weeks old. Of course, it's baby fluff, her adult coat will be more silky, but it should be pretty lush.
Well, guess I'll scare up some supper. All I've got is some leftovers, but there's plenty if anyone wants to drop by. Also, I've got some vanilla ice cream and aome A&W root beer - we could make floats later. Of course, I'll have to take some extra insulin, but that's nothing new!
Blessings, everyone! --Romeena
