June 15, 2007 - Msg 53484: Good afternoon, all. Boo, that is definitely great news after the scare you had earlier. You're most certainly on the right track with CoQ10. You may remember that I started taking it several years ago on the advice of a friend, and my cardiologist said "take it if you want to, it's voodoo, but it won't hurt you." Since that time, he has seen my response to it, and that of other patients, and has read up on it, and now prescribes it. It works. It's good stuff. As for red yeast rice, Rev is right, it is helpful. Just be aware that it breaks down into a statin in the body, so if you have problems with Lipitor, as I did, you might not be able to take it. Cholest-Off is what my endocrinologist now has me taking for cholesterol, and it works. It works in the intestine to block absorption, doesn't affect the liver. It's over the counter - get it at any grocery store that has a vitamin aisle. It definitely works, it dropped my cholesterol about 30 points. I also take Carb Intercept on my doc's advice, and it helps keep my blood sugar down - it's also over the counter.

Dud, if you don't mind sharing your email address, I have some information you might be interested in. You can reach me at Romeena at airmail dot net. You know how to put it together.

I'm still in Florida - will be heading home on Monday. Having a great time. It has been cloudy most of the time, and a little rain, but it's needed so badly that no one objects, actually we wish there was more. My son's lake is about five feet low. His dock is in two sections - one is permanent, on pilings, and the other is detachable, on barrels, and can actually be towed out on the lake for a diving platform or to shoot fireworks. Normally, they're about level with each other. Now the floating section is so far down he has put a ladder in place to get from one section to the other. Awful!

Yesterday I went with my DIL's aunt and a neighbor who has become a good friend, and the three of us had a nice lunch on the patio of a little restaurant, then walked around the really cool little town of Mt. Dora, poking into shops, and ended up with lattes from a tiny, friendly little place. We took them and went into the Lakeside Inn, an old historic hotel on Lake Dora. The management had set up some jigsaw puzzles on a couple of low coffee tables, and we sat down with our lattes and started working on one of the puzzles. We stayed over an hour! Such fun. Good company, good conversation, a lovely puzzle, and a beautiful view out the windows. Oh, and the "hotel cat" dropped by for a brief visit and to get his ears scratched. A totally wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I love it out here!

Well, gotta run. We're meeting some other friends at the Goblin Market for dinner - a really quaint little restaurant down a tiny back street in the heart of town, marvelous food. I always feel so at home here - all of their friends have become my friends as well, and I never lack for something to do. They just sweep me along in their wake - whatever they're doing, I'm in. Such kind people.

June 16, 2007 - Msg 53493: Hi, Tom, and everyone else. Tom, I have asked everyone around here for gum wrappers, and they all chew the kind that you pop out of a little plastic bubble on a card. Just not many people chewing plain old stick gum anymore, I guess. I never chew gum at all, because I have too much dental work and it sticks. I ask people everywhere I go, but there just don't seem to be many people who would have wrappers. I'll keep trying, though.

Beautiful out here today, balmy breezes in the palms, light hazy clouds so the sun isn't too hot, just a very pretty day. My DIL and I worked for a short time in her butterfly garden, pulling weeds, reset a couple of plants that were planted too deep, she pruned a few things. It's just beautiful, and everything in it either feeds butterflies on the wing, or serves as a host plant for the eggs and larvae. So pretty.

She's out riding her bike for exercise right now, and I'm up here enjoying the view of the lake and exercising my fingers on the keyboard! Ha! My mama didn't raise any dummies.

Hey, BWB. Glad to see you coming around now and then. Try to make a bit more often, you hear?

Millie, I hope you're having a perfectly wonderful day. May God give you a restful weekend, free of discomfort, and give you the energy to do whatever you want to do.

Well, I'd better get back downstairs, I just heard my DIL come in. We're having a lot of company this afternoon, there are preparations to be made, but as usual, she'll have it under control and make it look so easy!

My mother is fighting the driving ban. She still wants to drive as a 82 year old, but for the past 20 years she will not drive on the interstae or state highways. I think that is a good ideah, but to drive to chirch she drives 18 miles when by interstate it would take 5 miles. Then she complains about the gas she is using. She does not drive at night. Love her though, one fine Christian lady. My sister is flying in Wednesday to see about the driving issue from the Detroit area. $900.00 round trip.

Thompson For nominee, but I don't think a Republican has a chance in 2008. How bout the Cointon's racking up over $50 million in cash goodies since big bill lost control and the Hillary got 8 million ore maybe more when he was still the Bubba" president.

Have a good weekend, and Romeena I I'am gonna take the daughter to Spring Creek BBQ for father's day. I want thos good fresh rolls, fried oakra, Potato Salad and Great BBQ Brisket. Maybe some Good Mexican Beans. What Mexican Rest. Dou you recommend in the Metroplex? She likes the Catrina Laredo In Addison. Me to. Ro Mt. Dora is where we used to go every year, I love that little town!

BWB good to see you back, where you been hiding?
Millie I'm sorry you are in "isolation" but stay there until you get better, please, like Opie said "You NEED us!" teehee
Now for the wedding "details" to answer Lucy and for the rest of you....
We are getting married on June 30, at 6pm with a reception & native ceremony to follow at a good friend's house. We are having BBQ brought in & everyone is going to enjoy a big bonfire as well. I am not wearing a dress, or fancy shoes, I will have a veil tho. It's going to be a "Biker Wedding" we are getting married in our leathers & leaving on the motorcycle!! My aunt has made me a "do rag" out of white satin, with a veil attached. Neither of us was ever going to get married again & we both love to be out on the bike, so we figured since it's something we weren't going to do again, since we are, we'll do it OUR way! I am not registered anywhere since between us we have 3 houses full of "stuff" we made a "wish list" at Camping World.com for things we would rather have.
We are loading the RV with our furkids, putting the bike on a trailer & heading to Boone, NC for our honeymoon. I am so excited! This man is Just AWESOME!!
(figured that would be easier to read) ;) We will have lots of pictures so I will get those to Ro as soon as I can after the wedding. Now you have the low down on the wedding & all.
I am off to the ironing board, see you fine folks tomorrow. Prayers, good thoughts & love to you & yours.

Thursday we had an emergency service call on a system I had designed for the a court building and decided to go myself. It was a rush trip to Dallas and didn't leave the building until about 8:30 pm. Decided to stay at the Hampton on 183 and made three attempts at exits, circle back etc and ended up at a Homegate Suites (don’t recommend that place either, unless you are fond of eight legged creatures). It was about 9:45 by that time and even though I had skipped lunch wanted to just turn in for the night. The tech that went with me wanted supper and suggested Mexican food. We could see a place directly across the freeway and went there. It was Don Pablo’s. This must have been the worst I have ever been served. ‘Course, being from San Antonio know some about Tex-Mex.
On a positive note thou, on the way back Friday stopped at a BBQ place in Glen Rose, Hammond’s…..some of the best BBQ I have ever had. It would be worth the drive from Dallas to eat there and the complete lunch…I had brisket, sausage…beans and potato salad…more that I could eat and was $7.25 for the plate. I take pride in my sixteen hour+ smoked briskets but will admit what I had was better than I have ever had turn out. Have a good trip.

More later - right now I want a shower, some dinner, and some quiet time. Need to go walk over the yard - I see the lotus is blooming out in the pond. It will be beautiful tomorrow.

Sounds good Millie.Great BBQ you put together last night.
TOM- hi ya there. How ya doing!
BOO- last night me and the missus ate at a Whataburger in Mesa AZ and I saw a photo on the wall of the first little Whataburger stand, and it said it was in Corpus Christi, TX in 1950!
Hey homemaker, ya better start chopping wood again! ha Any new "goatlings" these days?
Auh20, asa, postum and others, thanks for the words.
"Ar'nt ya kind, ar'nt ya kind!"
RO- glad the plumster did ok on the trip. I havent heard from Colt lately. I think i will drop him a line.
MD- that is what's neat about nascar, great stories like that one! How goes the produce business?
Mavis- You could always add a sidecar and set up Checkpoint Chickie! ha
Still HOT here, 113 by friday! As colt would say, it is so hot that instead of runnin after each other, the dogs just WALK after the cats! haha
Good evening to you all, prayers a plenty,

Hello porch family. Pray that everyone is doing fine.

ASA...Good to see ya back in your rocker.

Well I guess Spot is relaxing on his boat about now.

MDC...congrats to you and the Mrs.

Tom...careful, them ants will tickle your belly.

You all have a good nights sleep and know that I'm praying for you.

June 18, 2007 - Msg 53542: Happy Anniversary, MDC! (I forgot to say that earlier). 31 is something to be proud of, that's great.
-Hazel

June 18, 2007 - Msg 53543: That's right, MDC. We are the home of Whataburger, for what it's worth, ha. I don't go there, though. I stickin' to my healthy eating plan.

Welcome home, Ro. Hope you and Sugarplum get a good night's rest.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers. Bruce got the results of his cardiac stress test and everything was great. I think we both need to do some serious changing to get ourselves in better shape.

I am really sleepy tonight. I mentioned that I had Karen's children last night and I was up till 2am with her 13 yr old boy. He needed to talk and cry a little with me. He is going to be ok, though, it just takes time. Right now he is upset because his dad just married the woman he was living with and he feels like his dad is trying to "replace" his mom. Please say a prayer for Zach, Ali, and Jill when you can.

Think I'll "call it a night". God bless the porch,

Boo

MDC-There must be something wrong with my computer. It looks like you're trying to tell us it's 113 degrees there. No one can survive something like that. It's been about 90 here and I'm about to raise the white flag or yell Uncle.

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53545: Good morning friends. Just like a bad penny, I've returned. I'll try and read the archives this morning and post again later.

BOO: Boy do I have laundry...

Me-They

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53546: Good morning, all. Been up a little while, out in the yard briefly (mosquitoes are vicious) and got a few pictures. The lotus appears to be on its third day, judging by the color, so I got some pictures. It will likely drop its petals tomorrow. Remarkable plant. I hope it blooms again this summer.

Fish appear happy and healthy, looks like my friend Ted took good care of things while I was gone. The water is clear, the pumps are functioning - can't ask for more than that. What a deal. Originally hired to refinish some cabinets and do some general repairs, still a trusted go-to person for home maintenance, but a good friend as well. Mr. Wheeler should take some lessons.

Well, gotta run. I'm going to meet my runnin' buddy and have some lunch - probably Mexican from El Fenix, since I have had no Mexican food while I was gone. I'm about to get the bends or something. Someone asked earlier (Dub, was that you?) about my favorite Mexican restaurants. El Fenix is usually very good, but the closest one for me is out Hwy 114. Since I have an errand out that way, we'll probably go there. Nearer to home is a little strip center place called Arturo's that has very good food. El Chico is nasty, though it remains popular somehow. I refuse to eat there. Any Mexican restaurant that puts processed cheese in the enchiladas should be closed down, in my opinion. Just nasty, I tell you!

OK, off I go. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53547: Boo - we had Whataburgers when we visited TX a couple of years ago. We thought they were great - not great for the heart - but good eating!

Looks like it might rain today - we REALLY need it. So glad that Tennessee is getting some too - it has been mighty dry around here.

How are the 4-H projects coming Boo. We are working on a Vet Science poster. Case visited the vet on Friday and watched some surgeries. He saw two different dogs being spayed. He really wants to be a vet. We will display them at the fair in July.

Need to run. . .

homemaker

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53548: WELCOME HOME ME-THEY!!! Just throw your laundry on that gigantic pile over there...I'm a little behind from all the activity around here.

Hey Homemaker, I'm like Whataburgers ok, but my favorites are the burgers we get down the street at this place called the Hot Rod. Man, they are really grilled and they put them on homemade buns that are kind of sweet and use real cheddar cheese. Wow, are they good. As far as 4H, we had a fund raising project 2 weeks ago, and nothing since then. I'm still waiting for the next meeting. It seems that when Karen died, it changed everything around here for awhile, as far as schedules go.

Ro, I think that it is more likely that the food at El Fenix will GIVE you the bends. hehe

Auh2o, you can go ahead and yell "uncle", but it won't help. I already tried that years ago. I am about to go outside to the garage and start the laundry. When the dryer is going, it's about 100 degrees in there during the day. I tired yelling "uncle" but no luck.

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53549: Anyone here familar with In-n-Out burgers? They are mostly a California chain but dang I love em. I eat there everytime I go to the golden state.

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53550: M-T - could you start a moulage, man things are dull when you ain't starting trouble! Tee Hee

Okay - what's your favorite burger chain?
I'll start. . .I love Dairy Queen's grilled hamburgers (I live on the edge so a good plain hamburger is hard to find).

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53551: Well,it's a sorrowful day here in the Lowcountry. If you haven't heard,we lost 9 firefighters in Charleston.Biggest loss of firefighters since 9-11. They were battling a blaze in a Sofa Superstore & the roof collapsed on them. They did manage to get the employees out safely. The I-report photo up on CNN.com right now was taken by someone I went to grade school with. Seems so surreal.
Prayers for the families and friends of those 9 heroes.

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53552: Favorite Burger chain...hmmm...have to think about that one. Guess it would be Whataburger or Burger King.

Talked to the nurse practioner at the cardiologist's office and they told me I could get a stress test. I'm scheduled for July 2nd. I'm looking forward to getting it done so I will have a clearer picture of things.

Asa, I have never eaten an In-N-Out Burger but I think I have a nephew who worked one a few years ago out in California. He is in the Air Force now and recently married. He suffered a pretty bad muscle injury while in the academy and he is still having so much pain that he can't perform his job well. He needs some kind of surgery but the gov. doesn't want to pay for it but wants to discharge him instead. Doesn't seem fair to me. Guess the war is costing too much. Hey....I feel a moulage starting. Wanna jump in, Me-They?

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53553: Good afternoon all. Wow, you people have done some jawing since I’ve been gone! It took all of lunch to read the archives. Truth be told that by Thursday or Friday of last week I was skimming, though STERLING mentioning “tranny” in a post did give my eyes whiplash stopping so quick. Glad to see things didn’t change that much since I was gone.

STERLING: Prayers that you get the job that you want. Regarding the episode with your Mrs., remember Barney's warning: "Women! Nothing but heartache!" Seriously, I just muddle through myself but when in doubt, I shut up, smile, and say, "I love you." Sometimes I may throw in a "Did you lose weight?" for good measure ;).

BOO: I’m pleased to hear that all turned out well regarding your heart. You sure your doctor gave it a good look-see, though? Your heart does seem bigger than most, after all. I can also sympathize with your struggles with Erin—been there, done that. I agree with the advice you were given and would only add that when you say something, do just have to follow through. Once kids are let off the hook once, it’s a step backward. I know sometimes it’s not easy (they do tend to turn on the “cute” when they’re in trouble) and plain inconvenient but when a punishment is threatened it must come. I’ve found that a “friendly” warning, followed by a threat of punishment, if needed, usually works. Some people don’t agree with the warning bit, but in my experience sometimes they don’t even realize they are doing something. In any event, the boom is lowered on that third strike. I also hope that your troubles with Sean worked out okay.

AUH2O: It’s funny, I hate politics and therefore can’t talk enough about it. Isn’t that strange? My interest stems from high school (early 80s); I wore a “Nixon in ‘84” sweatshirt, not really because I liked him but rather to irritate a number of my ‘60s ex-hippies teachers. Man that was fun. (HM: I guess that’s when I began starting moulages, too.)

MILLIE: Sorry to hear about the isolation. Maybe John Travolta could loan you his bubble suit. Remember that movie? Seriously, though, you are constantly in my prayers.

LUCY: The Mrs. will be working from home in a few months. Until then, she’s a 9-5er. It makes child care a dicey this summer, but thankfully her mom and my parents live close by so they are dividing up duty. Aren’t grandparents great? A teenager from our church may be called on to fill in now and again if necessary, or I can take a day off. We’ll work it out. Anyway, it’ll be real nice having the wife home every single night! The only problem for me may be relinquishing clicker control.

MAVIS: Congrats to you and Mr. Neff! It’s not a shotgun wedding, is it? ;)

SPOT: Chincoteague Island is a small island off the Eastern Shore of Virginia. It’s basically a little town on an island. Beautiful, quaint place. It was made famous in 1960 by Margeurite Henry’s book, “Misty of Chincoteague.” The wild ponies actually live on Assateague Island, a barrier island accessible by a cause way on Chincoteague. One side is in Maryland and is administrated by the state. It’s okay, and they do allow camping there. The Virginia side, though, is a federal wildlife sanctuary. No camping or anything, but it has beautiful ocean beaches that have plenty of space and attract mainly families. It also has miles of paved bike trails and nature trails, fun nature programs for kids, etc. Wonderful, unspoiled place. I’m not one for the beach, although the kids love it. We rode bikes every day (both islands are perfectly flat). This was probably my 30th time on the island.

Don't get me started on the war, BOO, but what you mentioned is not right. You may not want to get me started on the health care issue, either.

I vote for Wendy's for favorite burger chain.

Well, break time is over—back to work. Hey to everybody!

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53556: Good afternoon Porch. Hope all is well today. Finally got my computer at work connected to the the internet again. The computer guy said it was a problem with Norton! Glad to be reconnected with you all. Took my Mom for cataract surgery this morning. She will have the other one removed in a couple weeks. Sure is quite at my house this week, I miss my kids. I will take care of supper tonight: steak and gravy, mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, slaw, rolls, sweet tea, peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert! I had better get busy cooking. Blessings and prayers to all. welcome home Romeena. Glad your tests were good Boo. Mavis, be sure to send Romeena a few wedding Photos for the album! Big Maude

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53557: Hello friends....been a while I know. Kyle turned seventeen in May. He will be a junior in high school this coming year. He starts working at Kroger Grocery Stores tomorrow. He is looking forward to it.

I have a new man in my life. His parents live in the apt next to mine. His dad is in early stages of alzheimers and so he spends alot of time there. We had chatted about the weather occasionally, and one night, I just decided to ask if he would like to come over for a bottle of pop....actually it was a can of cherry coke. He asked me out the next two days, and we have become almost inseparable. He is a good man and I am blessed to have him in my life.

If you would, send up some prayers for him. His son died this past November of a drug over dose and he is still learning to deal with it. He has quite a bit of stress in his life. He is a special special man.

Hugs to all...I will try to pop in more often.

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53558: WHAT??!!!....another love connection? What a great summer this turning out to be! Fun Girl, so sorry about your boyfriend's son. How sad. Prayers for him. He is blessed to have a friend like you to help him through.

Thanks, Maude, prayers your mom's surgery goes well.

ME-THEY, you are such a sweetheart...here's a big kiss on the jaw (*SMACK*)! You feel like my little cyber brother. Glad things are working out with your wife's job, and yes, you are blessed to have those grandparents to help you. My folks can't babysit and Bruce's mom lives out of town so finding a sitter can be a real dilemma sometimes. By the way, good "wife" advice you gave to Sterling. hehe

Gotta go get ready for bible study at the rehab and then VBS after that, whew! It's all fun, though.

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53560: Good afternoon, all. Home from lunch and my errands, got some watermelon in the fridge, think that just might be supper. It's too hot to eat much else.

Me-They, I totally agree with your addendum to the comments we had offered Boo, regarding a recalcitrant child. My dad would gently tell me once to alter my behavior. Next time was a stern warning. The third time, my life flashed before my eyes! Without fail. I knew it was coming, and let me tell you, there were very few third times. Consequently, my husband and I raised ours very similarly. It works, but the key is - never promise or threaten to do something you're not willing to do. If you tell Erin she will go to church in her jammies if she isn't ready on time, and she's still not ready, then take her in her jammies! You won't have to do it but once, and you may start a trend with the other parents at church.

Well, everyone have a great evening. For those who have been traveling, I'm glad you're home safely. For those who are about to embark - vaya con Dios.

Oh, Goober, I have those two CDs in my car, and am really enjoying them. Good job, my friend!

Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 19, 2007 - Msg 53561: One more thing. About those nine firefighters. That is just pitiful, so sad. I have very strong feelings about that. I admire those folks so much, I think they're grossly underpaid and under-appreciated, but here's where I really get on my soapbox. Those nine men died defending material things!! The employees were out of the building. There was nothing there but a bunch of sofas and stuff. I can understand risking lives to save lives. That's their job, and they know it when they sign up. They know they may be called upon to be heroes some day. But to die to save a room full of furniture? Most likely insured furniture? I don't get it. Here's my take on it. When there are no lives at stake, why put lives at stake? Let 'er burn, baby, burn. Stand outside, do what you can from there, wet down surrounding areas, whatever, but to go inside a burning building to save some furniture - makes no sense to me. OK, that's my opinion. --Romeena
