You did a fine job of cleaning - my parents raised chickens too. My grandparents owned a hatchery (long before my time) so it was in my mom's blood. We had about 50 chickens that went into the freezer for winter. I am never gonna raise chickens for that - yuck, plucking chicken smell is the worst!

Oh, and my wife's sister and brother-in-law live in Delware and have five large chicken houses, each housing, like, 20,000 chickens or something ridiculous like that. Those chickens never see the light of day. They are delivered to the house while young, fed and watered (and medicated) automatically, then (I think) eight months later the processor (who actually "owns" the chickens) comes and takes them for slaughtering. Then, a company with front-end loaders comes and cleans out the houses. The family has to oversee and maintain the equipment and periodically check for dead or sick chickens (usually a walk-through once a day). I tease them that they are basically chicken landlords. Farming chickens has come a long way. One thing that hasn't changed, though: black flies.

My grandma used to get milk and meat delivered and she had a willow tree we would play Tarzan. That doesn't sound like too much of a life for them chickens, Me-They. Kinda sad.
Although I must say, speaking of chickens, that we have a restaurant here called Culver's that has the absolute best chicken tenders. Because, unlike ones from McDonalds and even sit-down restaurants like Applebees, the chicken actually IS tender. Practically melts in your mouth. I can't get enough of them.
Hearing about those chicken houses kinda tarnishes my feelings on that now(thanks a lot, Me-They). But they are still good.

She said my grandpa quickly finished it off, then dropped it in the incinerator and came in the house. He told my grandmother to plan something else for dinner, he wasn't about to eat that rabbit. The next day he sold all of his rabbits or gave them away or something, but they never ate rabbit again. I'll guarantee you, I'd never have eaten it in the first place. I'll eat almost anything, but not something that's adorable and twitches its nose at me. I had pet rabbits and can't imagine ever eating one. I took the Plum to the oncologist today. He could find no sign of a primary tumor just by physical exam, so wants to do another ultrasound, some sophisticated blood work, and a chest x-ray. However, before doing all of that, he wants to have the pathology re-done. He's having the tumors re-cut for exam, and having the cuts sent to another lab. The slides were read and re-read within the same lab, and he wants another one, at the University of Illinois, to read them. I agree. There's a slight possibility that she didn't have adenocarcinoma, which could only be metastatic (secondary) in the spleen. If it's another kind of cancer, it could possibly have been a primary tumor, in which case there's a good possibility that it was all removed in her surgery. That would be the best of all outcomes.
If the re-read doesn't tell us what we hope to hear - if it confirms the adenocarcinoma - then we will do the other things to try to locate the primary. If it's operable, we'll do it, and hope there's no other spread. If it's not, and there is a treatment option that has a good chance of success without too much misery for her, we'll do it. If not, then we'll just do whatever makes her comfortable and enjoy her while we can. Right now, she's feeling good. She's moving well today, has a good appetite and reasonable energy for a furkid of her age. If we can just keep her like this, all will be well.
Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes for my little baby dog. You know how much I love her. --Romeena

Good morning, all. Big Maude, I'd love to have lunch at your house, but think I'll pass. I'm going over to some friends' house tonight for burgers and hotdogs, and we're planning to have a "sing". The husband in the couple plays the piano and about ten or twelve other instruments, all by ear, doesn't read music. (Couldn't you just smack him?) Anyway, about fifteen or so of us will be there, and after we eat we'll gather around his piano and just sing for a while. Hymns, mostly, but no doubt some old pop favorites as well. If it has a tune, he can play it. I have a mountain dulcimer, bought with the intention of learning to play it, but I never have, so am taking it to him to see if he can. I give him about a month, and he'll be an expert. Anyway, it will be a fun evening! Hmmm - that strawberry shortcake is tempting, though.

To Asa Msg 52276, that song you provided the lyrics for is titled "Can't Take My Eyes Off You". Although many people have recorded that song, it was a big hit (#2) for Frankie Valli (without his group The Four Seasons) way back in 1967.
And speaking of memories of the 70's, let's not forget the Disco era and the Urban Cowboy era. Remember them near the end of that decade?
As for my memories of the 70's, it started out with college, followed by military service, followed by my first full-time civilian job.
To Mavis Msg 52289 and Romeena Msg 52291, sorry to say but you can't use Adobe Reader to fill out a PDF form. Adobe Reader is free because it is restricted ONLY to reading PDF files.
You will be needing another software program to convert PDF files into fillable forms. You could purchase the full Adobe Acrobat version ($290.00 and up) to perform that function.
Or can download another program from: http://www.simtel.net/product.php?id=91723&SiteID=simtel.net. Although this program costs $99.99, it has a 15 day free trial period. You would have to download it from that site, install it and then learn how to use the function you need.
Another method is to use Adobe Reader to print out the form and fill it in by hand. Then scan it to attach to your email, or mail it through the post office, or fax it. Good luck.

Hey Possum, here goes (singing)....."Tell me when will you be mine? Tell me Quando, quando quando? We could share a love divine, oh, my Darling tell me when..." (that's from the song Possum mentioned, I'm not trying to romance her).
Gosh, sure wish we could all meet at Babe's. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Been a long day. I think I made about a million enchiladas for tomorrow (or it felt like it). We are having a family lunch here at mom's and it will be Mexican food. Yum.
Think I'll get a shower and relax for the rest of the evening, that is between washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, getting the kids ready for bed, doing one quick load of laundry, and preparing my sunday school lesson. haha...maybe I'll skip the laundry....

Boo...I didn't remember the 7-up candy but as soon as you mentioned the 7-up popscicles, I do remember them.
Asa...And they said you couldn't sing.
Possum....be careful singing those songs like "Shake your groove thang" around Asa. He may hurt himself. heehee
Spot...tacos sound good. Mrs Rev makes home-made salsa so I'll bring a jar with some tortilia chips.
Happy Birthday Jade. Welcome to the teenage years.

Hey Folks,
Asa, Boo, Rev, Romeena, daphne, possum, Big Maude, Mavis, Poor Horatio, Spot, and DR P
Rev-I'm glad to share a birth date with your daughter.
Ro-You are sooo right about the some of the garbage we all call music. Do find yourself remembering a song fondly now that you may have disliked when you were younger? For myself, I can remember despising the Bee Gees (or any disco song) but when I hear them now they kinda make me smile. I still am not a fan but there is something to be said about the power of association.
Poor Horatio-Here's a trivial political thought of mine. Why is it that if the entire world hates W and the Conservatives in the U.S. that during elections in Canada, Germany, and even France the Conservative candidates all won?
Thanks for all the welcome backs.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Ma's on the porch.

Hey, Auh2o, glad to have you back! And even if we do have different political opinions, if some nut did come on here and riducule the good ol US of A, I'd sure say something, even if you wouldn't! I'd hit em with a leg of lamb! This is the best country in the world, and even if about half of us have different political opinions, I think we ALL can agree that that. I'm glad you came back.
Ah, all this talk about butchering chickens and such... well, you know my weak stomach. Anyhow, I haven't been able to eat anything but a cheeze samich and salads all weekend.

Hazel-Thanks. I was not referring to anyone here on the porch being a nut (although, I do have my suspicions about Me -They). The nuts I had in mind were the Comsky lovers or the "9-11 Truth" crowd. I really let those people get under my skin. And, it reflected in my posts here on the porch. They're the celebrities on talk shows and on news reports and the such. I know that if any of those people wandered upon the porch Andy's front yard would be filled with lamb parts. Hazel, I also know that you are good people, I didn't mean for my comments to become so barbed they hurt your feelings, that won't happen again.
Mavis-Hope you're feeling better.
Well, back to the ball game.

Good evening, all. Woohoo! A good time was had by all at my friends' house tonight. We had good hotdogs (no burgers, didn't seem necessary), all the fixin's, lots of fresh fruit and some killer brownies. Then we sang! And sang! And sang some more! About fifteen of us, and we just sang our little hearts out. Mostly gospel songs, and we had some Gaither Homecoming DVDs, played those and sang along. One cut with J.D. Sumner, the bass to end all basses. My stars, that man could get down there. Alan played his keyboard (we were at his house), and then he got out his electric bass guitar. He is amazing. Doesn't read music, but plays anything. His wife gave him the electric bass three years ago, he had never touched one before, and in a week's time he was playing it like a pro. God just showers some people with talent, and Alan got soaked in it. Anyway, we rattled the rafters and had a great time.
Happy Mother's Day to all you other moms. Have a great day. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

To auh2o Msg 52300, since Europe pays more for gasoline than we do, it can't be because of the high price of crude oil. I suspect it has something to do with Iraq and its drain upon our resources (people, money, equipment). No other country comes close to our level of committment. So it's a bigger problem for us than our european friends.
To Romeema Msg 52304, next time you have a good ole gospel sing-a-long, can I come over with my electric guitar and join in?

Glad you all liked my singing and dancing. Like Rev said, I have to be careful shking my groove thing these days. It goes one way and I go another and everything comes undone.
Sounds like you had a fun night Romeena. I don't think our generation does stuff like that to much and it's to bad for us. I wish we did.
My wife is ailing this morning so I guess we won't be going to preachin, so if y'all could throw a prayer up for us if you go we'd be grateful.
Millie, I pray you have a good day dear. I hope you drop by if time and energy allows.

I hate those migraines, they just drain me completely. Romeena was your friend able to make anything come out of your dulcimer? I bet he can. I know folks like him, I'd just like to smack 'em.
Got lots to do today since the migraine put a halt to everything yesterday, so I'm off here for a bit. Later taters...

I have neglected to welcome Dr. P. Welcome and pull up a rocker. You said you named a son Tristan? You must be a fan of Mr. 'erriot then. We'll have tons to talk about.
Boy what a beautiful morning here this morning. Sat on my patio and watched the sun peak over the wasatch mountains. Mercy sakes, God has blessed us hasn't he? Sometimes life gets in the way to much for us to notice and appreciate it. So my council for today is sit back, relax, take in the beauty around you. Honor your Mother's and just be thankful for all you have. (the collection plate will be coming by shortly) :)

Howdy, all! Ya take a week off to do some gardening and "home improvements" (read: "WORK") and miss a lot!
All this nostalgic talk really takes me back. I debuted the year of the T-Bird and Rock & Roll and have vivid memories of the '60s (I was 4/5-14 during that decade). We used to have neighborhood barbeques back then -- don't do that anymore for some reason -- and while the adults gathered 'round afterward, we kids would be out playing Great Ghost ("ain't no boogies out tonight; daddy killed 'em all last night" ... looks kinda gruesome in black and white.. lol). I had a Nehru jacket, go-go boots and paper dresses, and any makeup or perfume by Yardley of London was my passion! Remember O! de London, Slickers, Pot 'o Gloss? And the MUSIC of the '60s! Like nothing else, before or since. All was well until the mid-'70s when Urban Cowboy and Saturday Night Fever came along. (No offense to anyone.) That said, like you, auh2o, I couldn't stomach the BeeGees in the '70s (although I loved them in the '60s), but when I hear some of those songs now, I find myself foot-tapping and singing along. Same with Donna Summer; she really WAS good. :-) I guess the cream rises to the top. If the music stands up to time, that alone is testament to its quality. I can surely think of some AWFUL stuff I considered good as a kid. :-)
Congrats on 5 years, Boo. ("Five.") This September will mark my 11th year on the Porch, but this includes the old Porch, Franks. I've mentioned it before, but I remember getting some good advice from Ro when my younguns started kindergarten. Now they're going into their sophomore year in high school. Where DOES the time go?

ha, I DO know some 70's stuff!!
Also, when i was teaching 8th grade in the early 70's I remember "Have you seen her" by the Shilites was the top "slow dance" song at the 8th grade dances. ha As soon as that intro would start the dancefloor would fill up.
We used to have a canal near our house when i was growing up in the late 50's and we would catch crawdads there, like the one that bit Miss Peggy's toe at Meyers lake. (:
Last night i went to see Joe Garagiola speak and sign his new book, "Just Play Ball!" He was great. Talked about the days wen he played etc. Good stuff. he is a good human being.
REV- If i may ask, what influenced you to enter the ministry? Those were pretty turbulant times when you grew up, but there must have been good in your life!, maybe Andy when he wastrying to get Opies paper off your front porch? ha
AUH20 welcome back! We defy the mafia!

Good afternoon, all. Just got home from a lovely lunch at the home of my DIL's sister and brother-in-law. She made lunch for her mom and me, and it was wonderful. We had tenderloin, a wonderful salad, and a sweet potato/irish potato dish that was so good! Diced both kinds of potatoes, added chopped onions, drizzled on some olive oil, sprinkled a little salt and pepper and some cayenne and baked until potatoes were tender. It was delish! Finished off with homemade Italian cream cake - just excellent.
My son and DIL gave me a web cam for my computer, so I'll be able to have visual contact with them over their computer. Will have to be sure I'm dressed when I sit here now! Ha!
My goodness, De§, it surely doesn't seem like that long ago that we were discussing your twins. I can hardly believe they're all grown up now - going into their sophomore year. My, my!
Frankie, it's good to see you. I sure hope you'll make this a habit. We've missed you.
Mavis, my friend didn't have time to do anything with the dulcimer last night, but I'll bet it won't take him long. I took him a book that tells you what keys to tune the strings to, and it tunes with pegs, like a guitar, so he'll have no trouble with that. I have a CD of dulcimer music, will take it to him this week so he can hear how it's supposed to sound, and I'll bet he'll be playing it like a pro in just a few days. He's truly amazing.
Well, the Plum is in here hunting someone to cuddle with her. Guess that would be me. Later, friends. --Romeena

Happy Mother's Day, Mothers! Glad to hear all the chit chat. Love the '70s music talk--my era. I had records of many of those songs mentioned including the Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever! ; ) , De§! I never think of myself as being old, but the other night I was trying to help my son with a research paper. I really didn't know for sure how you cite web sites as sources. (As an editor, I guess I should learn that.) I'm also amazed at how kids don't have to proofread nearly as close as we did because the computer catches all the capitalization and spelling errors. We used to have to mess with a typewriter, an eraser, and brush or white out and hope we could get the thing to realign when we tried to type the correction. What a pain! Kids have it much easier now! Had a good Mother's Day with my family and my Mom. Hope everyone else did too. Hope Millie is having a good day too. Sorry to hear about the Plum's troubles, Ro. We'll hope for the best.

Just stopping by for a minute. The "babysitting" ep is on, and I'd just like to have the chance to smack Andy for once. "Evie Joy is whining."? Who is whining? Seems to me Andy whined more than the baby. So he had to sit up all night to keep the Darlings from killing each other. So what? He seems to think that means the whole world has to tiptoe while he gets some sleep. Ha! Nurses and lots of other people work the night shift all the time, then come home and either just stay up, or go to their room and sleep. If you're tired enough, a little old crying baby isn't going to bother you. But noooo. Here comes Andy, all tousled, in his drawers, whining about the baby whining. Yep, a good swat upside the head would have done him a world of good. However, to his credit, he was kind to Aunt Bee once he understood the situation.
And another thing! A woman with Aunt Bee's experience would not have been panicked by the blueberry stains on the baby's face. Imagine thinking she was "turning blue". I think they were running out of story lines by the time they made this one.
There, I've registered my gripe, and I ain't takin' it back! --Romeena
