Ray, have you ever been to Spicewood, to Krause Springs? Love that place! I'm not a sausage person so can't relate to the conversation there but can relate about the grocery monopoly. We don't even have an Albertson's in all of Corpus. We used to but the monopoly ran them out of business years ago. We have about 20 HEB's in Corpus and nearby areas, I think...seems like it anyway. We have one that specializes in tortilla making, one that does sushi, etc., etc...

Coffee's finished and time to put on my earrings and get the kids ready for church....wish me luck!

May 06, 2007 - Msg 52063:

Welcome, Ray! I'm in Texas, too -- just north of San Antonio. We've been buying Opa's beef sausage and like it a lot, but I really like Granzin's in New Braunfels. Ever been there?

My friend Michael had surgery a couple days ago and they got all that they could find. He undergoes radiation soon and has another surgery scheduled for this week. Poor guy.. he's really going through some hard times.

An interesting story relating to the tornado in Eagle Pass and Mexico: My DH worked at his boss's house recently, and his boss's daughter (a youth pastor) said that when the tornado hit Eagle Pass and Mexico, she heard a directive saying, "GO THERE." She'd never been called upon by God to do anything like that in her life, but she had to go. With the church's help, she got up 6,000 pounds of new clothing, diapers and sundries and called U-Haul to rent a truck. When U-Haul found out it was going to the tornado victims, they extended her time, free of charge, and gave her a 50% discount on the rental. Just as she was leaving, her 5-year-old daughter came up and asked, "You're going to the tornado place, aren't you, mama?" She replied, "Yes, I am." Her little girl said, "Just take the stuff where it's needed the most." Her mother couldn't believe it. She asked her little girl if the pastor had told her that. Her daughter said, "No, Jesus did." Needless to say, mom was blown away. She drove all the way to Eagle Pass, but wasn't allowed to take the stuff into town. Just then, a sheriff drove up and started questioning her. After hearing her story, he made a phone call and told her Mexico needed the stuff! Badly! They'd had deaths, and there was total destruction. So she headed to the border -- with a police escort! When they got to the border, they were told "No entry!" Just then, the sheriff made a call and wound up getting in touch with an aide to the governor of that state, who instructed the border guards to let them through. They got to the devastated area and distributed all the clothes and other items. One of the first things she saw was a woman rocking a dead baby in the doorway of what was left of her home. She said it was heartbreaking. She's back home now with her family. Looks like she got the stuff to those who needed it the worst, God bless her.

Prayers for all. Hope you're having a great weekend.

I wanted to mention to everyone that Andy Griffith is co-starring in the movie "Waitress." It's an indie film that debuted at Sundance in January. It stars Keri Russell (from that show "Felicity") and is rated PG-13. You can read about it on the web. I believe it is now out of video or soon will be. Just thought I'd pass that along for those interested.

HAZEL- What Rev and Ray and PH and Asa said! ha Also, look on the bottle for "other ingredients!" There is a lot hidden there and usually in small print.
I take a few items from ROEX.com also. Good natural stuff. They also have a daily call-in radio show, not a "canned" ifomericial, but a real show!
BOO- prayers for Sean, but i also read in the paper on Wed that drug companies are now going to add warnings on those kinds of drugs, like zoloft: "may cause suicidal tendencies in teenagers.." Not trying to scare you, but I read it in our paper, so it is something to ask the doctor about real soon.
Prayers continuing today for all the porch.
God bless ya folks!

May 06, 2007 - Msg 52067: Thanks MDC, the increased risk of suicide is something we have known about since before we put Sean on the meds. His quality of life was so horrible that we decided to use them anyway. We have discussed it at length with his doctors and they tell us that it's possible but highly unlikely in Sean's case. Supposedly the suicidal tendancies occur when the drug is first introduced and someone who has been on it for as long as Sean should be ok. Hope they are right. If you recall, we tried weaning him off the Paxil last summer because of my concerns but it just wasn't possible. Please keep up those prayers and I hope some day soon he will be able to do without it.

Been feeling under the weather a bit today. Had a wierd dizzy spell last night and almost passed out and today I am feeling a little funny, too. I think it might be related to my cardiac arrythmia so I may have to call the doc tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good evening.

I never saw "Best In Show" but Sean and I did watch The World's Ugliest Dog competition a couple of weeks ago and boy, did we laugh. Those poor little critters were hilarious looking and had some very funny names like "Tator Tot".

May 06, 2007 - Msg 52071: Hi, all. Boo, you know as well as I do that what you're describing is very likely a near-syncopal episode, stemming from an arrhythmia, possibly atrial fib, more likely a run of PVCs - certainly some sort of conduction anomaly. Get thee to a physician! What you have described is just like the episodes I have had in the past, and which are pretty well controlled now on a daily dose of Atenolol - 50mg q a.m. and 25mg q p.m. On that 30-day event monitor I wore, nothing showed up out of the ordinary, really not even any PVCs, which I have had for about twenty years, until starting on the Atenolol.

It's peaceful around here tonight, I gave the grandsons back to their parents this afternoon. Precious little boys, but they sure do turn my old set-in-my-ways routine upside down.

Me-They, I think you're probably right about the Plum overdoing it on Friday night. She was just so excited, having all those ladies here to make a fuss over her, and she milked it for all it was worth. It's my fault, I should never have taken her off the Rimadyl. I guess she's just going to have to stay on it for life, I can't stand seeing her have these spells. I'll be exploring that Ester-C thing, as well, as suggested by Poor Horatio.

Well, my Britcoms are on, so I'm going to crash in that big old bed, without two little boys and their six dozen arms and legs - just me and the Plum. She'll be glad. She was in a bit of a snit last night, had to sleep down at the foot of the bed and wasn't happy about it. Too bad, poor baby had to sleep curled up on a genuine, Chinese silk comforter, brought back from China by my very own self! Tough life she leads. Ha!

Anyone heard for Millie? Prayers and blessings to all today. Happy Birthday Tom. My daugther has a birthday this month as well May 16th she will be 13. take care. Big Maude

May 07, 2007 - Msg 52074: Right, Romeena. I was told by a cardiologist when I was pregnant with Erin that I had a conduction problem (which I already knew). I've kind of been waiting for it to cause a real problem. These kind of things run in my family. Dad lives in Atrial Fib, one brother is on the med which you speak of, one has had a cardiac ablation, and his son has Wolf Parkinson-White syndrome and had an ablation at age 18. My sister had chronic tachycardia and takes meds for that...so, I am the youngest and the last to have to be treated. I suspect they will try meds on me but what bothers me is that the only time it happens is when I lie down on my left side. That is how it has always been for years but now all of a sudden, it's worse. I hate to take meds when it only happens when I lay on my left side! Oh well, I guess it is bound to get worse with time anyway. And I just got Sean off of that crazy events monitor! Guess it will be my turn now. Thanks for sharing the advice with me. You're a good friend to have.

Glad Kai's recital went well and that you can both relax Sterling!

Hey Hazel, I have been thinking about Millie, too.

Better go get Erin off to school.

May 07, 2007 - Msg 52077: Good morning, all. Boo, it sounds like you're on top of your cardiac situation, just need to take the final step and get with a doc who will put you on the med you need. Atenolol doesn't solve the problem completely, it does sort of "restrain" my heart, not letting it kick into high gear on demand sometimes, so a little exertion brings on fatigue, but that can be dealt with. I just have to warm up properly, sort of move into things gently, can't sprint after a grandkid like I used to. Now, I just holler at them a lot! (teehee)

Did I tell you what happened out in the yard with my event monitor? I think I did, but anyway, it's funny, so I'll tell it again. I was working around the pond, the monitor was on a boulder a few feet away, and kept beeping at me because I was too far away - you know that annoying little triplet beep it makes - "be-be-beep". I finally remembered my shorts had a pocket, so stuck it in there so it would shut up. But I kept hearing the beep! Finally realized it was coming from a mockingbird in a nearby tree!! He had heard it, and was imitating it perfectly. Hahaha! Mockingbirds are wonderful. I stood on my driveway a few days ago, for at least five minutes, and listened to one singing in a tree overhead, and I don't think he repeated the same phrase twice during the whole concert. Amazing.

Well, gotta run. I've talked to the Plum's vet, and he said come get her Rimadyl, so off I go. She says hey! --Romeena

Guess what I found at my momma's when I was cleaning out the rest of my stored junk. I found another copy of Andy's album Just For Laughs. Now I have one for both hands and I have one for each ear. Ha Ha

My mom and dad's auction is May 19 so I have to get most of my stuff cleared out. I have several antique pieces that I need to put in my house. When I get my bigger house it will be okay but my house now is just too too small for all of those pieces.

I think I am going to get the doghouse moved when I get home from work tonite. Just don't like walking past it.

Went to a small hometown circus yesterday. The tent capacity is 1500. There were jugglers, elephants, camels, horses, dogs, Chinese acrobats, and Spanish trapeze artists. It was great! And a couple of non-scary clowns too!

Well - take care!

Bruce saw his doctor today because of his chest pain and he also told me that he had been having some dizziness and more chest pain that he had admitted to me originally, so his doctor is making him see a cardiologist tomorrow. Turns out his blood pressure is up, too and he started him on blood pressure medicine. We both seem to be falling apart at the seams this week. Stress is killing us both. I had forgotten about your a-fib. Glad it's under control. As far as gas prices, yep, it costs around 100 to fill my surburban. I would get rid of it if it wasn't paid for. I am still wanting one of those Toyota vans like Me-They bought. Can't see taking on a car payment until I have to, though, at least until the house is built.

May 07, 2007 - Msg 52091: Interesting story about the HEB stores, REV. The chain was founded by Howard E. Butt (don't blame me, that was the man's name!) way back yonder. He was a Christian man, did a lot of philanthropic work, founded the HEB ranch up in Horsecollar Canyon on the Frio River in the hill country. It's used as a camp for underprivileged and handicapped kids, and is a very beautiful place. The old man would never allow liquor or beer to be sold in the HEB stores, and proved that a big grocery business could be built and grown without the benefit of alcohol sales. Well, when the old man passed on, his family decided he didn't know what he was talking about, so introduced beer sales and wine too, I think, into the stores. Too bad. They are nice stores, though, usually clean and with a good meat and produce section.

Mercy, REV! I'm glad I don't have to drive that thing. I think other drivers would be glad, too, if they only knew. I would imagine parking it is a trip and a half. I'd have to choose drive-thru parking only, I'd never be able to back the thing up. I can't back up my little plant-tote coaster wagon without hitting something.

Boo, don't sweat finding that reference to the Plum's ailments. You've got enough on your plate without that. I'm glad you and Bruce are doing the right thing about seeing the doctor. Both of you are under way yonder too much stress right now. I don't know how you're going to extricate yourselves from it at this point, but something has to give. It may mean just adopting a different attitude toward things, but that's easier said than done, I know.

OK, I have to ask. Has anyone heard from Millie?

Ro...thanks for the HEB history. They are really nice stores.
As for driving the motorhome, it's really not bad. You just have to be careful when you pull into smaller lots. And as for backing, as long as you keep the trailer in your side view mirrors, it backs fine. You get use to it.
P-H...yes it's like a home away from home. When you're in it as much as I am, you need the room to be able to relax.

Ya'll I want to share a little story about a song on my upcoming cd. I had written all the songs for this new project and was ready to go into the studio but the Lord just kept impressing on my heart about a story of "giving your all". Well right before I went into the studio I sat down and wrote a song about a little girl hearing her dad tell the story of the widows mite and how that pleased the Lord because it was all she had to give. Well the next Sunday morning this little girl, remembering that story, took her favorite doll to church and placed it in the offering plate. And of course it goes on to tell of her giving her all just like the widow in the Bible. Then the last chorus tells the story of God giving His all for us through Jesus on the cross.
I share this story of the song with you all because that's the way I feel when these prayer request are brought before us on the porch. When we go to the Lord in prayer on behalf of our dear friends here, I truely believe God sees it as giving into the Kingdom.
So yes Ray...count me in on the prayer time tonight for our dear friend Millie.

Everyone have a wonderful night and remember Jesus loves us so much.

May 07, 2007 - Msg 52100: I agree, Rev. I have been made more aware lately of the precious gift prayer is, when we give and when we receive it. Thanks for that encouragement.

Thank you Ray, for your call to prayer. I am a bit late but will pray all the same. Prayers for Kim and Mike, as well.

Thanks PH for that suggestion of yours. I will try that.

Thanks for those prayers for Bruce and me. I have been feeling ok myself. I will be going with Bruce in the morning to find out what tests they will do on him. He is ready to do whatever he needs to. He had an "interesting" experience on Saturday that has really made him think. He took Erin (our 5 yr old) to the park and then when they left, Erin asked him if they could go see Bruce's dad (Bruce's dad is buried at the cemetary). Very strange that she should ask because we have never taken her there before. Bruce took her and showed her his dad's grave and had a talk with her about how Grandpa is with Jesus. When they got back to the car, Erin told Bruce, "I don't want you to die yet, Dad", so they said a prayer that God would allow Daddy to live a long life. Well, now he is really thinking about that and is determined to do whatever he needs to do to stay alive. I have been doing some thinking about it, too. Since we are "old" parents of young children I think this is all a "wake-up call". Pray that we will have the wisdom and be able to persevere in doing what we need to do to improve our health, please.

Have a peaceful evening,

May 08, 2007 - Msg 52109: Good morning everyone. It's another beautiful day here.

Prayers for BOO and her family, POSSUM's friends, little SUGARPLUM, and of course MILLIE. Has anyone heard from her?

I know how you and Bruce feel, BOO, about being older parents with young kids. I'm in the same boat. It's funny, but sometimes it makes you feel real young and other times real old, if you know what I mean. I'm sure things will be okay at teh doctor today.

Nice story, REV. What's your website again?

If we're going to KFC, I"ll take the extra cripsy, please, with a side of mashed potatoes.

And, I am not a moulage! I just play one on tv.

May 08, 2007 - Msg 52110: Heartfelt prayers for Millie and her loved ones. They have been blessed beyond compare with love and salvation through Christ Jesus.

May 08, 2007 - Msg 52111: Amen.

Me-They, I know exactly what you mean...sometimes young, sometimes old (mostly old). What helps is that most of your friends who are our age have young ones, too, but every now and then I realize that other folks our age are already grandparents or have grown children...THAT makes me feel old. You know, one of my best friends is 43 and has 4 kids ages 10, 8, 4, and 1. His wife is considering having one more. Wow, that's gotta be a challenge.

Boo

May 08, 2007 - Msg 52112: that's supposed to be "most of OUR friends"...I don't know about your friends, of course. ha

Way to go, Cobb EMC!

May 09, 2007 - Msg 52148: Well, Asa, it's like this.....The other night at Sarah's I was telling about how I was once an aide to John Warner and his then wife, Elizabeth Taylor. One of my jobs was to stock their fridge here in Richmond when they came to town. And what I had to get for her was KFC. It was funny, because a few months later it was all over the news how she choked on a chicken bone, eating fried chicken. You may remember John Belushi did a parody of it on SNL(she was quite large at the time). Anyway, that's my KFC story. And my "brush with greatness" story. Hope you liked it.
