Miller is NOT knee deep in school work, he's enjoying this nice weather, playing outside with his friends. We have about 25 kids on our block(about 10 or 11 houses) so they are getting some exercise and sunshine. It's nice and quiet here this afternoon.

Just got the kids bathed and in bed so I have a minute to myself. Sean has been compaining of an earache and I put some drops in and gave him some Advil...sure hope he sleeps tonight. I have been up the past 2 nights with the terrible thunderstorms and hail we have had here in Texas. Now that the rain has stopped, we are looking forward to the Texas-sized mosquitos!

Boo, sorry you had such a bad couple of days. Your in a very stressful situation with looking after parents and all. I applaude what you do. I guess you just need to pace yourself and know there will be days like that every now and again. But taking care of parents is a kind and wonderful thing you are doing that too many children fail to do. I know you will be blessed for your efforts. It's not easy, but worthwhile pursuits seldom are. Hang in there.

The weather here is just wonderful. Near 70 yesterday, sunny, light breeze. Well perfect is what it is!

Boo - sick kids are never much fun! I hope Sean is feeling better soon. And I think it is wonderful that you have tenacity to take care and live with your parents. They raised you right! I remember my grandmother living with us for a time when I was younger. Unfortunately for me, it was not a very happy time. My grandmother was not the most pleasant person to be around. She always considered me a spy. But she was old and in the beginning stages of senility. . .that is what I remember about her.

It is raining here - the temp dropped about 25-30 degrees as a cold front went by. We are in the 30's right now. . .yesterday's 70 was much better.

I have situation. Looking for suggestions. As you know, we have a new Yorkie (3 pounds at this point). My sister lives an hour away and we only see them 2 or 3 times a month. She has 2 boys ages 8 and 6. They are ALL BOY and I love them dearly but they are too rough with Hershey. The youngest one is VERY unpredicable. He would just as soon kick the poor dog as look at him if he gets in the way. My sis left a message on my machine earlier and said that she and the boys are coming this afternoon. I haven't called her back because at this point with Hershey so small, I don't want the boys to be around him. I don't want to cause hard feelings but I'm at a loss as how to handle this. My sister is very defensive of the boys. I guess we all are when it comes to our children. Help!

March 15, 2007 - Msg 50455: You are correct to be concerned, MISS PEGGY. Our Yorkie was about 7 lbs. and I know from experienced that a dog that small around rambunctious boys is not a great mix. Of course the dog will want to bee around the kids, but the kids won't always be aware of the dog. I can see him being stepped on even if the boys were trying. As you say, though, you can't trust at least one of them to behave.

Can you lock up the dog while they visit (if the visit won't be too long)? Or explain to your sister that it's not just her boys, but boys (or kids) in general. She should understand if you approach it lovingly. If she doesn't, that's not your problem.

I'll have unlimited soup and salad, please. Oh, and bread sticks, of course...

You should be able to express your concerns to your sister. Maybe she wouldn't be as offended as you think and when it comes to people in our lives who are easily offended, they never learn otherwise if we constantly sheild them at our own (or others expense). If you are loving and honest, her response is her concern not yours. Protect that little puppy. I believe that is your first responsibility. I know from expereince that trying to tip-toe around people's feelings is just putting off something you will have to deal with at a later time....AND, the sooner you begin to be frank with folks, the easier it becomes the next time. Just my two cents, whatever it's worth.

Miss Peggy, I had a somewhat similar situation years ago, and I found that it often helps if you can appear to be shielding the offender. Example: "Sister, I have put Hershey away, because I know he'll want to be right in the middle of the kids' play, but he's so small and vulnerable, that we'd have to be constantly after the kids to be careful of him. They'd have to limit their play and that wouldn't be fair. Then of course if the worst happened and Hershey got hurt, the kids and you would feel just terrible, and I don't want any of you subjected to that. At some point, I'll bring him out and he can sit in my lap while the kids get in a little quiet time with him." I used a little speech much like that, and it worked. I don't understand people who can't or won't teach their children respect and compassion for small creatures, but folks like that are all around us. We just have to find a way to handle them. Know this, however. You are under absolutely no obligation to sacrifice your pet, or compromise his safety, just to avoid hurting your sister's feelings. She does, however, have an obligation to respect your feelings and preferences in your own home.

I've been without pumps on the fishpond for three days. The GFCI kept tripping, and since the landscape lights are on the same circuit, I thought water had gotten into one of them. My handyman friend came by early this morning, and by trial and error, he narrowed it down to one of the pond pumps. When he pulled it out of the water, you could see a little bit of oil, so we know it's leaking. Now I've got to go buy a new one. Drat. Those little boogers aren't cheap. Oh, well, it could be worse.

Beautiful day here today. Chilly, but not really cold, and it's bright and sunny. I love weather like this. Good planting weather, because the plants can get settled into their new home before it gets too warm. Guess I need to go buy snapdragons. I'll see y'all later. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Got my new pump, and a new spotlight for the little waterfall, and stopped at the garden center for more flowers. No snapdragons yet, but I got two flats of impatiens, some lantana and some carnations, and a big old hanging fern. Beautiful! Now I have to get it all planted. I'm pooped today, after working last night, guess it will have to happen tomorrow. Anybody in the mood to plant something? Come on over, I've got plenty of little digging tools and a lot of dirt to dig in. I'll even make you some lemonade.

Others that I've read are "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire", "Fresh Power", "The Life God Blesses", "The Church God Blesses", "Break Through Prayer", and "God's Grace From Ground Zero", about "911". Some of the stories from that one will give you goose bumps! Jim Cymbala walks by faith and it's evident in his books.

You know, the one I was talking about when I was explaining why I couldn't be "Emma". Because there already was one. Who is, apparently, having a birthday today. So, Happy Birthday to Emma! You should come around and post once in awhile!
Does anyone want to know what one of my pet peeves is? Come on, you know you want to know. It's stereotypes. Like the expression "Chick flicks" or "Chick Books". Like just because we are female we all read the same type of stuff and love the same movies. I fell asleep during "Steel Magnolias". Most boring movie I ever saw. I've never followed the crowd and read or watched what I felt I was suppose to; and if I did, most of the time I found it BORING. Why do people assume that all females like "Chick" stuff. Who made that up, anyway? There. I did a soapbox. My first time ever! Now, as the rest of you say, I'll close it up and put it under my rocker.

March 17, 2007 - Msg 50510: Woo-Hoo! Hazel got on her soapbox! I don't generally like the kind of movies that folks consider to be chick movies but there have been a few. I did not like Steel Magnolias but I did like Fried Green Tomatos. I'm not a real touchy-feely person. I was just kind of raised that way. I was never a "girly-girl". Speaking of movies, have any of you seen Amazing Grace yet? I sounds like it is a hit. I saw the writers interviewed on FOX news last night and they had some really positive things to say about the impact of evangelical Christians on ending slavery. They also mentioned one of my all-time favorite movies, "The Amistad"...if you haven't seen it, consider renting it, it's awesome.

Peggy, the book I was trying to remember was Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire. I will look for it soon, thanks.

Happy birthday to Emma! Sure do wish you'd come and set a spell, like the good old times.

Hazel, while I don't fully agree with all you said, I'll defend to the death your right to say it. (I think Calvin Coolidge said that.) You'll notice I used the qualifier "all" - meaning I do agree in part. I'm not usually too partial to gushy movies myself, but "Steel Magnolias" was a classic, in my opinion. Sally Field did a wonderful job, and Julia Roberts was awesome in the scene where she was having an insulin reaction. I don't know who coached her, but she had it down pat. As a nurse, I've dealt with patients who were in just such a state, and she could have fooled me! You said you fell asleep during the movie - maybe you missed the best parts! (heehee) I was a tomboy as a kid - so many male cousins, it was self-defense - and when I did play with dolls, they were usually the victims of an Indian raid or something.

Laughed at what you said about your dolls, Ro. I did play with dolls plenty so I guess I was pretty girly when I was very young. As I got older, though, I wasn't into frills and I wasn't silly and boy-crazy like so many girls I knew. I was kind of the sensible type. I remember my goal when I graduated from high school was to finish college, get a job as a nurse and be on my own and I wasn't going to let anything get in my (especially men). I didn't begin to date until I had accomplished those goals and was on my own and able to make a good living. I was 23 at the time and it worked out great, except that I think I waited too long to marry and start a family. Now here I am at 44 with a 5 year old! ha. The benefit is that I had my years of freedom and making it on my own and I don't ever regret my decision to marry and have children. BUT, I don't advocate waiting so long in most cases. I think it's great when two, responsible people fall in love early in life and marry and start a family. It's a good thing, as Martha would say.

March 17, 2007 - Msg 50523: Good Day to you all. just checking in for a minute. Cool and windy here today, just having a quite Saturday. Boo, I married at 29 and had my son when I was 31 and my daughter when I was 35. Seems to of worked out okay for us. My husband was 29 when we married as well. Our son is 16 and our daugther will turn 13 in May. I was dtermined to get through graduate school before I got married. Our wedding was 2 weeks after graduation.
18 years later, I have no regrets about how things
worked out. I will take care of dinner tonight:
Parmesan Chicken, salad, garlic bread. ice cream sundaes for dessert. sweet tea, or soda to drink.

March 17, 2007 - Msg 50524: Patty O'Furniture?? Hahahaha! Millie, that's hilarious! Pretty bad, but very funny. I love bad jokes, the lamer the better.

Hmmm. I was 17 when I met my husband, 18 when we married, and 19 when our first child was born. Had three more over the next 11 years, so was finished having kids when I was 30. As for my education, I had one year of college before we married, then went back to school at age 37 and got my RN when I was 40. I guess I did things backward, but I wouldn't change a thing.

Whew! I just came in from the yard, planted 12 verbenas, potted two carnations, and planted 40 impatiens. Had to crawl around under nandina and spirea bushes to plant the impatiens, but the little beauties are in the ground. Give them two weeks, and they'll be blooming their little heads off. They're mixed colors and just scattered randomly under those bushes, next to boulders, near a birdbath, at the base of a tree, whatever. They'll be pretty! Now for a shower and a short nap, then over to a friend's house for dinner.

If I hear that silly "Mr. Barky Von Schnauzer" commercial one more time, I think I'll gag.

March 17, 2007 - Msg 50525: What a gorgeous Saturday! Perfect for all that planting, Romeena. I'm enjoying reading everybody's love stories. Ro, my Mom married ON her 18th birthday, eloped as a matter of fact. Come August, she and Dad will celebrate 53 years together!

I met my husband when I was 24. Two months later, we were engaged, and 6 months later we married. I was 25 and he was 27. When June rolls around we will celebrate 22 years together! We have a daughter who will turn 18 in July (graduates high school in May) and another daughter who is 11. I felt ancient having a baby at 36, even though she was planned. She is such a joy! Didn't mean for my girls to be so far apart in age. Had no control over that, as I had 3 miscarriages over the years in between them. But God is good. They are the joy of my life!

Well, I guess I need to start supper. Husband had to work overtime today and will be home soon.

I met my wife in church! Like ANY young single man of 24, yes I said any, and all the others are just liars, (haha)I looked for a girl to sit next too in services. After doing this for many times, my dear Cecile actually tapped me on the shoulder after the final hymn of the service, and wanted to know if I wanted to talk a bit, and the rest is HISTORY! As many know, this June will be 31 years!

It has been a very sunny, but chilly day here in Atlanta. Nick played paintball and Bryson played with one of his friends.
I met Bryan while we were both working at Dillard's. I was 20 and he'd just turned 32. I was in my sophomore year of college and he'd just split with his ex so neither of us was looking for anyone. Well, that was 9 years and 2 kids ago! Nobody thought we would make it because of why we married, but I guess we've proven them wrong.
Hazel- I appreciate your soap box. I will read just about everything. Right now I'm reading Anne of Green Gables, The Excellent Wife, The 7 Pillars of Health, and Faiths of our Founding Fathers. I promise I don't have ADD. I don't mind anyone calling girly books chick-lit. In the summer I will read those type books at the beach. Mostly I read Christian Fiction such as Beverly Lewis.
Romeena- You should see the dogwood and cherry blossom trees here. They are gorgeous. Today I took some pictures of the boys. When I get them back (and they're not hideous) I will send them to you.
Marty- McFly, as in Back to the Future? You should post more often.
Emma- Happy Belated Birthday!
Boo- I saw Amistad dvd in the $5.50 section at Walmart if you want to check it out. Bryan and I are planning on seeing Amazing Grace in 2 weeks when he is actually home.
