Its sad that you try to protect your computer just as you do your home. There will always be a mean person that causes problems in your life for no reason. Hope everyone has been doing ok. Almost afraid to stay on computer anymore, afraid someone will get in and mess me up again. Its a sad world we live in. I pray that it changes real soon. Good night all. Hope to be back tommorow.

Try "Ctrl+F5" if you're using Internet Explorer. It may work in other browsers as well. It forces the page to reload completely. I was able to get in with no trouble. Sorry you're having a hard time.
--Floyd

February 01, 2007 - Msg 49234: Thanks, Floyd, for trying to help. I did the ctrlf5 thing, it did the same thing as when I open the page....looks like it's loading Java, then goes to a white square witha little x in the upper left corner....nothing clicks. Sorry to be a bother.
Millie

February 01, 2007 - Msg 49235: Hmmm on their site it says that the problem you're seeing is because you don't have the latest version of Java? That seems strange since it worked for you last night? You may want to try downloading it and installing just to see. They also said it could be a firewall or something like.

Personally, I'd try this:
Your internet cache is serving files from an older version of the applet. To clear out your temporary internet files; Close the web browser, open it back up and reload the web page and click Yes (or Run) when asked.

Sugarplum ate a small dinner, then retired to her crate. It will be interesting to see if she leaves the crate tonight to share my space with me as she usually does. Last night, I think I told you, she refused to leave the crate. First time she's ever done that, and I hope it's the last. I don't sleep well without her small presence beside me.

Isn't funny how many "holiday's" we have? I vote for Asa!
I just want to thank everyone for your comments. Millie, thank you for explaining your situation. That is how I have felt. My problem is that I'm seeing the effects on Bryson, such as being afraid of being hit by me, his self-esteem, and worrying about his weight (he's in the 20%). I know in my heart we have the best place for Nick, but it's hard showing someone affection when they hurt your child. I'm trying. I will mention to Bryan about praying. Romeena, I have the video camera battery charging. The reason I wanted him to wear long sleeves is because he already has a cold and I really don't want him staying home from school-that's my refuge! I told Bryan a little on how I feel before he goes today. The thing is that I don't want him to feel like he has to choose between his wife and child. Again, thank you!
Floyd- I didn't know about the cookbook. Thank you for sharing. I love to cook and may post recipes.
Boo- What did you do with the pot roast?
Monte- I hope you get your computer fixed soon. I'd feel lost without mine.
Romeena- Thank goodness Sugarplum isn't really ill. I hope she feels better soon.
Mavis- YEAH! I told you before that I have had fatty tissues (cysts) in mine before and yes they can be bothersome during your cycles, but I would think that would be okay as long as you don't have cancer. I'm glad you've found a fella that will treat you well. You deserve it!
Homemaker- Did y'all get out of school?
Well, I need to do some laundry. Nick is spending the weekend at church (yeah, I'm so bad) so I need to get him packed to go. Y'all have a wonderful day!
Blessings to you and yours,

Miller-Hey There!

Barney: "Now don't get purposely obtuse, Andy."

auh2o

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49245: Morning, all. Mavis, I'm so happy for you - what good news! It's an answer to many prayers. As for the Plum staying in her crate, you're absolutely right. That's her little den, and she treats it as such. However, last night she got right up and headed for bed when I did. Poor little thing, she just stood at the foot of her steps and looked up at the top of the bed, like she couldn't imagine climbing such a mountain. Naturally, I picked her up. She waited for me to get settled, then walked over me and settled into her accustomed spot behind my back. Sure felt good to have her back in her place.

Lucy, of course you couldn't let the kid go without sleeves if he was already half-sick. It's just that I believe a child learns best by meeting the consequences of their actions. It's a parent's place to protect them from consequences that might be truly harmful, and that's what you did. (Bonus - it kept him in school and out of your hair, too. Teehee)

Well, gotta run. The Plum is up, and acting hungry. Good sign! --Romeena

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49246: Porch,
One of my new years resolutions is to save money. Can y'all give me ways that you save money around the house? Do y'all consider yourselves frugal?
~Lucy

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49247: Oh, my! Lucy, I wish I could say that I'm frugal, but I'm afraid I'm not. Oh, I do a few things, like turning off lights that are not in use, but then I have landscape lights that burn all night, and certainly use up more than I save. Those landscape lights are there for safety, though, not just to look pretty, so I think they're justified. I do watch for grocery specials, but since I'm only feeding myself, it doesn't amount to much. I will splurge and buy a good piece of Angus beef, but I make sure I get at least two meals out of it, and usually buy it on Wednesday morning, when the butcher is marking things down to make room for the next shipment. Now there's a tip. Make friends with the butcher or meat market manager, and find out what days he typically marks the nicer cuts of meat down. I probably don't spend more than $150-$200 a month on groceries. I enjoy eating out, but usually make it lunch rather than dinner, because it's cheaper. I eat very little fast food, because it's not all that healthful, and usually isn't a good buy for the money. I can get a great lunch at Olive Garden for just about what a Big Mac, fries and a drink would cost. I only buy clothing that's on sale, very rarely pay the original price for anything. I drive a very nice car, but it's pre-owned, I never buy a new one. Stale bread, cereal, crackers and such become bird feed, thereby reducing slightly the amount I spend on purchased critter feed. So - no major savings here, I'm afraid, other than what I save on my car. A $48,000 car for $23,000 with a full new-car warranty isn't a bad deal, but that's about the only big savings I can claim.

Just heard from the Plum's doctor. Her blood panels look exactly like they did six months ago, still with an elevated alkaline phosphatase, but he's not concerned. He doesn't want to repeat all the follow-up tests we did before, looking for confirmation of Cushing's. He says he doesn't think she has it, she's just getting older. Her thyroid is significantly low, though, and he's putting her on a small supplement - gotta go pick it up today. All in all, for twelve, she's in pretty good shape. She seems to be fine as far as whatever was wrong yesterday goes. She's much better today, little tail flying like a flag once again. That's my very reliable barometer of how she's feeling. Droopy tail, sick Plum. Waving tail, happy Plum. Mercy, I love that puppy!

Well, I'm off to the grocery store - daughter coming up from Fredericksburg tomorrow for a short visit. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49248: Yeaaaa for the Plum. Glad she is doing better and her tests came back good. Barney, although still tender, seems to be feeling a lot better. I know just what you mean about the tail as a barometer for telling how they are feeling Ro. Furkids are such a trip.

Lucy, both my folks are British, who have a lock on frugality. So here are a few tips I would share with you.
1. Clearly define wants from needs. Easy to say, hard to do, especially when children are involved. My advice is never buy anything on impulse. Hold off for a day or two if possible and then see if you still need or want it.

2. Fast food, as Romeena said is a killer. Not only for health reasons, but also on the budget. You can make a lot of sammiches at home for what you'll pay for a fast food meal.

3. Buy in bulk. Places like Sam's club or Costco can save a lot if you buy in bulk.

4. Don't be afraid to haggle folks on prices. You'd be surprised on the money you can save when buying something by simply asking "is that the best you can do"? Sure you can't do that with everything, but you can on more than you might realise.
Hope that helps some.

Asa

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49256: Hey, Asa! I'm glad Barney is feeling better, too. The Plum is pretty much back to her old self. Sleeping more, but behaves normally when she's up. At the moment, she's lurking in the entryway, hoping that the wall will miraculously fall down when the mailman comes on the porch, and she can ambush him. It won't, of course, and she'll have to content herself with shredding the mail before I can get to the door, like she does every day.

You're right about the savings at Sam's and Costco, when you buy in bulk. It's no saving for me, because the stuff will spoil before I ever get it used up, but for a family, it's great. I used to shop there a lot when I was feeding a bunch around here.

Well, gotta go put my piddly little bit of groceries away. Four bags, enough for a week or more, even with company coming tomorrow! Sugarplum says hey again! --Romeena

Ro, what you said about the Plum is so sweet! My Lab is doing to much better today. She has been as active as a pup and is waving that big tail of her pretty high. I sure hate to start the heartworm treatments on her. I know they will make her feel terrible. I have learned a real lesson from all this. I will certainly make sure that she gets that heartworm prevention every month.

Sean had a merit day today (day off for good behavior) so I took him to the mall and bought him some new shoes and we hung out all day. It was nice.

Later I am going to my friend's house and take her out for dinner. It is my Christmas gift to her. I gave her a certificate good for dinner on me whenever her kids were with their dad and she had a weekend off. I was thinking about seeing a movie but I don't know what is worth seeing.

I haven't been by in a few days. I sure was worried when I read about Plum. I am relieved to hear that she is back to normal...great news Romeena!

Hey Miller, glad you're sharing the porch with us. I have a 9 year old son myself! He had to get fitted for a tuxedo today and I don't think he was any too happy about that! He would much rather have been coloring, (his dad's an artist), or playing basketball or something like that. What are some of your hobbies?

Very cold on my end of the porch. auh20, I will take you up on that hot cocoa, just make sure you got some of those little bitty marshmallows, that's the only time I will eat them!

Have wonderful Mayberry dreams!

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49282: To reply to Mary Wiggins, I too would have perfered coloring. My hobbies include 1. drawing comics (I'm gonna be a cartoonist when I grow up!) 2. being here and.... 3. reading Wikipedia and Wookieepedia(a branch of Wikipedia).I do other hobby-like things, but I can't think of many now. I brought some dessert! Extra-fudgy brownies! Dip em in your cocoa if you want. Quick, get em before I eat em all!

February 02, 2007 - Msg 49283: Good evening, all. Just got home from my bunco party. It's just a group from Sunday School, we meet once a month at somebody's house and eat, and play some bunco. Fun, and harmless.

Miller, you are a caution! So glad you joined us, you're a good kid, and you're going to be fun to have around. You take good care of that mom of yours, we think the world of her around here.

Mary Wiggins, and everyone else who has expressed concern for my little Plum - thank you. She's doing just fine. It always scares me when she gets sick, it's a good thing it doesn't happen often. She's remarkably healthy for such a little froufrou furkid, especially since she's twelve years old. Hey, Miller, the Plum is older than you! How about that? By the way, in the picture of you and your brother and sister that your mom sent for the album, which of the two boys are you? I don't know how old that picture is, so can't really go by the ages.

Well, guess I'll turn in. Gotta be up early in the morning and freshen this house up a bit before my daughter and grandsons arrive from Fredericksburg. It's not dirty, just a bit cluttered. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

passed away yesterday and we are all grieving over our loss. He was such a sweet companion for Mom and Dad. They are heart broken, to say the least. Please remember them in your prayers.

Hello to everyone else on the porch today. Good to see the sunshine here in Texas!

Blessings, Miss Peggy

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49291: Sorry to read about your parents loss Peggy. That is sad indeed. Hopefully they will go right out and get another one. I promise, it will help them.

Spot, Miller is Millie's 9 year old son who has joined our ranks. A great addition to the porch.

Nice poem Tom. Thank you.

Romeena, is the Plum still doing ok? Barney seems to be back to normal. Thanks for the prayers for him everyone who did.

Asa

P.S. Peggy-sorry to hear about your folks' little dog.

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49294: No, Possum, we can't go to Morelli's. Don't you remember last time we went? He wouldn't let us have the shrimp appetiser, told us to not fill up. We had to share a bowl of minestrone soup. He did tip the gypsy though. Boy, that gypsy was moody! Why don't we just go to the diner? We'll still get dressed up, Spot. I'll even wear earrings.

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49295:
Here's something I've been meaning to ask, are there any amateur (or otherwise) genealogists else where on the porch?

Hazel-When I first read your post I thought "He did tip the gypsy" read "he did get tipsy." Leave it to me to invert. I guess I read as sloppily as I write.

Peggy-Sorry to hear about your parents little pooch.

Andy Taylor: Otis, three hours ago when Deputy Fife arrested you were you drunk?
Otis Campbell: I don't know; I wasn't wearin' my glasses.

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49296: Not the Diner Hazel. Not on saturday night. Look, I just don't happen to like my main dish concealed in a heavy sauce. Plus they only give you two wings there, and from a chicken thats done a lot of flying.
But wherever everyone wants to go is fine with me.

Asa

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49297: Hey porch! I'm back. Sorry it took so long. The internet was down.Just giving a shout out to the porch.

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49302: Hi porch. MIghty cold here tonight. Low of -1. Brrr. Hey to Miller. Post any time. Good to see Tom too. I liked Lucy's idea about looking for money-saving tips, but I flunked right off the bat when Asa said "know wants from needs." I have a lot of trouble with that one--especially where the kids are involved. I just spent $80 for yearbooks. Thought I'd give you all an update on my son's acutane situation. He's been on it 2 weeks and his face is looking better. But like Mary Wiggins said--he's extremely dry. His lips look horrible. They are all swelled up and bloody. Checkup Feb. 14.
Charlotte Tucker

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49303: Hey porchsters, just got home from work, again, need to catch up....Charlotte, glad the accutane is working, but sorry about his dry skin. I use Curel ultra healing on my face in the winter because my skin is so sensitive during chemo.
Hey to Hazel, Big Maude, Asa,auh20, Mavis, tom, Miss Peggy, Spot,Mary Wiigins, Possum, and Miller. Hope you are all well. Better get some stuff done, wanna make early church.......
Millie

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49304: Big Maude, if you're dancin' with Al, I'll take Asa. I got my hard shoes on.
Millie

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49305: So sorry about your parents losing their companion, Peggy. I remember about 12 years ago when my parents lost their wonderful little dog, Holly. I thought it would kill them both. After a proper amount of time, my sister and I decided to go out and get them another puppy. We found them a cute little black pup and it did help their hearts to heal and gave them someone to look after. The second dog never could replace the first but it sure did help. Anyway, prayers for your dear parents. I know what you are going through...

Boo

February 03, 2007 - Msg 49306: By the way ASA, I happen to like my meal concealed in a heavy sauce so I'm going to the diner....It beats the bologna sandwiches that Hazel suggested.

Boo

February 04, 2007 - Msg 49309: Good morning, all. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm playing hooky this morning. My daughter and grandsons just left, and if I left now I'd still be late for church. I'm still in my bathrobe, so it would be at least another twenty minutes before I could leave, so I would be very, very late. I think I'm just going to settle in here and have a quiet morning at home. I hope God understands, and I think He does.

Miss Peggy, I'm so sorry to hear about your parents losing their little friend. That really does hurt. I just can't imagine my life without the Plum, but I have promised myself and my family that if I outlive her, I will get another companion immediately. No way will it replace her, but it will make its own place, just as she did. So, my kids know that one responsibility that will fall to them when I leave this world will be to provide a loving home for the Plum, or her successor. It will likely fall to my oldest son, in Florida. Both daughters have great big dogs, my younger son has two very young sons and a big dog. The older boy has no children, only a sweet little spaniel. He's the obvious choice, and has indicated his willingness to take her. She loves him, too, and seeks out his lap whenever she can catch him without his own dog there.

Well, guess I'll go scare up some breakfast. I've out critter feed, and there are a lot of fluffed-up birds enjoying the buffet, makes me hungry to watch them. It's very cold - ice on the birdbaths - and everyone is all puffed up and looking so cute! The little sparrows are as round as tennis balls!

Have a lovely Sabbath, friends. Sugarplum (who is fit as a fiddle now) says hey! --Romeena

February 04, 2007 - Msg 49310: That's "I've put out critter feed", for pete's sake. When will I learn to proofread? --Romeena

February 04, 2007 - Msg 49311: Romeena, you are a jewel! Thank you for your sweet words. My Sis and I continue to pray for wisdom about another puppy for my parents. My sister called the lady where we got Mom's yorkie and she is still in the business. In fact, the 15 and a half year old yorkie Mom is still living! I couldn't believe it!
Romeena, the Lord DOES understand when we have to stay home on Sunday! I'm doing exactly that today, as well, because I just can't seem to shake this cold that I've had for a week now. Didn't want to sneeze on everyone at church.

Thank you, Boo, also for your encouragement. It means so much.

Charlotte, glad to hear that the medication is helping your son. My daughter doesn't have acne, but she does have very sensitive skin. I found someone on ebay that sells goat's milk lotion and it is the only thing that has helped her. In fact, we all use it! It's wonderful. They also have soap and shampoo. If you are interested, she has a website as well. www.soapsandsundries.com

Hope everyone has a great day!

Miss Peggy

February 04, 2007 - Msg 49312: Well I stayed home from preachin cause Millie bruised my toes so bad I can't walk! :)

February 04, 2007 - Msg 49313: Sorry about all you folks that missed preschin. I went. It was about sin. That's one subject you can't talk enough about. Sin. See you all at the Olive Garden.

February 04, 2007 - Msg 49314: hehe I guess I can't proof read either. Make that preachin, not preschin. I did not slur my words. I have not been drinking.
