Good morning, friends. Haven't been keeping up with things (like the porch) the last few days, so much going on. I think I told y'all my FIL went into the hospital last weekend. He's still there, and yesterday morning he had what we think was a heart attack.....they're still ruling out a pulmanary embolism. Anyway, hubby and MIL are very upset, we've been back and forth from the hospital, and we know very little about his status and condition. It's all been very stressful. I hope today is a better day.
Big Maude, prayers for that family you mentioned. What a difficult thing.
Lucy, prayers for you and your family. I don't know how you're managing, but you are. I hope things get better with Nick. Hey to Boo, Mavis, PH, Asa, MDC, Sterling, auh2o,Ro, hm, fungirl, possum, and all other porchsters. Got a big day ahead, so I'd better skeedaddle. Prayers for all my friends.

Good morning everyone. It is a beautifully sunny, mild day here. Something like the calm after the storm. Just about all the Republicans in state or federal offices here were dumped for Democrats, including the governor. (On the local level, at least here in more conservative western Maryland, Republicans were elected.)
But you know what? What the heck did the Republicans expect? I typically end up voting Republican because their platform usually reflects my values. Sometimes I even delude myself into thinking that because of that fact they also reflect my perspective. Unfortunately, the way things have been handled lately has proved otherwise. Although I can see a bigger picture and lament the fact that the Democrats will now control Congress, I do understand the frustration of many Americans who were sick and tired of the scandals and methods of the Republicans in office. No party is immune to deception, underhandedness, and self-promotion at the expense of the people. Maybe this loss will teach our leaders that we expect them to act like leaders. Enough of that.
I took the day off yesterday to give the Mrs. a break and let her sleep after she got home from work. And wouldn’t you know it, Veda slept pretty well anyway. Oh well, I got some cleaning done. It was nice to have off anyway.
Thanks to all who prayed for the Mrs. and Veda. I know that my wife is getting pretty upset over the situation. She is looking around now at consulting jobs that she could do from home. She’s done some work for an attorney friend of ours and has enjoyed it. I wish we could afford for her to just quit, at least for awhile. We’ll see.
LUCY: Prayers for your situation. I agree with BOO and ROMEENA’s concerns and urge you to heed their advice.
BOO: I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. But, at least pure joy awaits her. Prayers for you and her family.
MAUDE: Prayers for the family of your son’s friend as well as the community. Things like this are always very hard on a community.
MILLIE: Prayers for your family as well.
FUNGIRL: Praise the Lord!
Well, I’ll be back later to really shoot off my mouth.

I know what you mean about the Republican leader's Me-They. Pretty discouraging when you feel like you can't trust anyone in Washington. And now this Haggard fellow getting outted...sad. Here is what I don't understand; why does there seem to be so many homos*xual people now when there didn't used to be? Was there always, and people just hid it? I mean, look at this Haggard guy who is married and has children but says he has struggled with these, "demons" (his own words) for years. Is he a homos*xual who has just tried to be heteros*xual all these years? It scares me to think about a Christian who is even a pastor and can't control his s*xual desires. This kind of thing seems to be such a strong pull for some men that they can't seem to overcome it. I don't think I have ever mentioned it, but I have been concerned about my son for a couple of years because he isn't a typical boy. He has some feminine mannerisms and about a year ago, when he started gaining weight, he started getting breasts. I know this can be a common thing for boys his age but he is very sensitive about it and gets teased and he used to get called gay in our old neighborhood. So far he has no interest in girls at all (is is 11 and a half) or what you would think of as typical boy behavior such as sports. I know I have to trust the Lord with it but it's one of those things that is hard for me. He is seeing a Christian counselor (male) and we have encouraged him to seek out boys as friends, which he has done. I guess I am just holding my breath waiting for him to show an interest in girls. Please pray for me and my husband to do the right thing for Sean and pray for Sean. He has enough to deal with the Tourette's without having to deal with this. Whew, ok, that's off my chest. I didn't really want to share it but I certainly wanted to have my friends pray about it, thanks.
Continued prayers for your community today, Idelle.

November 09, 2006 - Msg 46975:
BOO: First, I don't know if there are actually more homos*xuals today, but I believe that there certainly is more homos*xual behavior. Some people would have us believe that homos*xuals make up about 10% of the population. Even secular scientists say this figure is way too high and it's probably more like 2-3%. I think the rise in such behavior is the result of poor parenting (read Dr. Dobson), an "I'm okay, you're okay" philosophy, and society's acceptance of anything goes. Of course, I'm ceratinly no social scientist or anything so take that for what it is: my opinion based on what I've read.
I figure it's like this, I don't believe that people who are genuinely homos*xual choose to be that way. Whether it's nature or nurture, I truly believe that these people are (or become) wired like that. I think that homos*xuality is a mental illness and as such can be treated. And we shouldn't be any more negative toward such a person than we would to someone suffering from ADHD, bipolar disorder, or, ahem, OCD.
Now, while that may be true, God has prohibited the physical expression of this drive. It's sad that some people must struggle against what to them may seem like "natural" urges, but, Biblically-speaking, struggle is what they must do. See, we all have our crosses to bear. Some people are born deformed physically, or handicapped mentally or emotionally. To us, it may not seem "fair," but what do we really know about fair? So, that's my opinion on the subject.
Now, BOO, about your specific concern...don't worry about it. First, Sean's weight issue is just that: a weight issue. It may be caused by his diet, medication, habits of exercise, or be genetic. And lots of overweight guys (and some not-so-overweight guys) have "breasts." That doesn't mean anything. I don't think it's that odd that he isn't that interested in girls right now. If he hasn't hit puberty yet, his interest wouldn't really be s*xual in nature anyway. And he may be more interested than you realize. Sometimes shy boys or boys with something about them that they perceive would be "repulsive" to girls forces them to mask interest. After all, you can't be rejected if you don't care, right? All boys have feminine mannerisms to one degree or another, and that's not a realible indicator of anything. Lispy interior designers can still be straight, and football players who smash cans against their heads can turn out to be gay.
In my opinion, keep talking to Sean and encouraging him. Your husband's support and love is especially important at this stage of the game. So be concerned for his well-being, but don't worry so much about the other thing. Frankly, I doubt you have anything to worry about. It's in God's hands.

Good Afternoon Porch,
I have to leave to pick up Bryson, but I was reading y'alls comments on homos#xuality and felt compelled to say something.
Boo- Please don't worry, dear. I just have one thing to say. Would you love him any less? How would you feel if he DECIDED to be a homos#xual? Honestly, Sean is being raised in a Christian home with loving parents I don't see how he could choose that route. I totally agree with Me-They in that Bruce should be spending as much time with him possible. I went to a fashion school and many men there were not gay although they dressed and acted the part. You are a wonderful Mama and that's what matters to him. Love him unconditionally. Read to him in the bible about what a man is to be. There is a great article on nogreaterjoy.com/org about what is a man. Nick has what we call man-boobs and he's nearly 13. He recently started really getting interested in girls (although none that he finds "hot" are interested in him) He's not obese, but he's a tinge overweight. IF he chooses to go against what you feel then that is his problem and not yours. Raise him up in the way he should go and he will follow. You've done your darndest and that's the best that you can do. You're a loving Mama and you've done so much for Sean. Take care!
Romeena- Bryan has said that if after 6 months of living here if he needs to go to a place for troubled teens then we will. Right now, he said he needs a chance to fix him. My problem is that Nick treats me bad when Bryan's around so Bryan only sees me get irritated. Nick is a master manipulator just like his Mom. It was thru manipulation that Nick and Michaela came into existence.
Gotta go spend the next 2 hours in the car!
Blessings,
~Lucy

I wouldn't say that what I am experiencing is worry, exactly, just that I have real sense that there is a problem and am concerned that maybe I should be doing something about it. Does that make sense? I have read Dobson's book Bringing Up Boys and also a book for parents about preventing homos*xuality in children, written by a so-called expert on the subject named Dr. Nicolossi. I think at this point the most important thing (as you both mentioned, Lucy and Me-They) is building a strong and loving relationship with his dad. That has been a problem over the years. Bruce was a very athletic, star football and baseball player in high school and college and he was a very typically rough and tough little boy. He couldn't relate to Sean and I know he was dissapointed in him (he never said it, but it was obvious to me..and I'm sure Sean sensed it). He used to be pretty hard on him and it was probably the biggest problem we had in our marriage in the past. Thankfully, since Sean was diagnosed with his neuro. problems, Bruce's eyes were opened to the fact that Sean has a problem and he just is who he is and he needs our help. He is loving to Sean but he is so busy that he is not spending the time with him that he needs to spend. Bruce has always worked long hours and by the time he gets home, eats and showers, it is already nearly time for Sean to go to bed. I am going to have to try to arrange it so they can go do things on the weekends together.
Thanks for the opinions and encouragements (I would welcome any others, as well). Lucy, to answer your question, No I would never love him less, no matter what he does in life. I know that when he is grown, he will be responsible for his own actions and consequences but while he is still a child I want to be sure that I give him all he needs to grow into a healthy adult. Thanks for your kind words. Most of the time I am a loving Mama but sometimes I can turn in to Joan Crawford when the kids start badgering me about something! ha "No more wire hangers!!"...remember that?
Boo
November 09, 2006 - Msg 46978:
But if you don't have any wire hangers, how do you get the car door open when you lock your keys inside?
I didn't mean to imply you were (as Helen Crump would say) a hysterical parent. If it's any small consolation, my dad and I had the same sort of problem. My dad loved to work on his mower or car, build things, watch football, etc. As a kid, I would rather read a book or play with my army men. I loved playing outdoors with friends, but my dad just could never interest me in the "guy" things he enjoyed. It used to frustrate my father. I still remember him trying to get me interested in working on an engine. After awhile of asking me to hand him tools or something and listening to me sigh, he'd reluctantly send me away. I was always overjoyed. Although I still have never changed my own oil and don't watch football, I did end up playing sports in high school and I do now enjoy building things and working outside. I'd like to think I turned out okay. Well, not completely crazy anyway.

That's nice to hear, Me-They, thanks. What's interesting, is that I just listened to a radio broadcast on Dobson's site about homos*exuality and children and they listed 5 behaviours that may predict it in kids. They didn't really fit Sean but they did fit Erin! ha, I give up! Let's see if I can remember them: Wanting to dress like the opposite gender, wanting to pretend to be the opposite gender in make-believe play, preferring to play with the opposite gender, wanting to play games and activities that are associated with the opposite gender (boys with dolls, etc), and saying that they want to be or feel like the opposite gender. Oh Me-They, I forgot to tell you something about Erin that is sort of OCD. She hates buttons. Strange, I know but she won't get close to them and when she sees them on clothes she always says, "Ewww...buttons!". The other day Bruce came home from work wearing a shirt with buttons and Erin refused to hug him because of it. When I asked her why she doesn't like buttons she said, "When I see them I feel like I have already gone to heaven"...which I guess means she thinks about death. How weird, right?! Kids are so strange.

Boo - I wouldn't worry either, working in a school - you see all types of bodies on all types of boys. We all grow at variable rates. Just let him be as normal as he can be. My oldest is 11 and he really isn't into girls (they can be pretty but it isn't on his mind) - bike riding, beating up his brother, and raising goats are his cares. All typical boy in the country behaviors. My youngest is 8 (soon to be 9) and not into girls either - he likes the computer, cartoons, and beating up his brother. They have one common interest - beating up each other.
I don't know if suburban kids are different than country kids but I do know that once your new house is built - he will have more opportunity to be outside and be like a country boy. Maybe getting him into 4-H would be good - he would be in a club and belong somewhere. Maybe he feels out of the loop due to his many medical problems -

Boo: I completely understand your problem, not from the parent aspect, but from Sean's aspect. I was just like M-T said he was, I never liked working on cars, or mowing grass, I'd rather play with my friends, or play with the dog, and Dad was very reluctant to let it pass. He was a mechanic, and he hated it when I didn't want to help him, or when I would go inside and play with my stuff, instead of doing the (as you said) "rough and tough" stuff with him. I was never friends with any of the very "mocho" guys at school, and I really didn't participate in sports, accept for dodge ball, I loved dodge ball, but that's another story!!! My Dad would often say that he didn't want me to be a homos*xual, of course, he didn't say it exatcally like that!!! I knew in my heart that I wasn't "gay", and my Mother knew that, and that's all that mettered to me. I've always hated football, and I was never too much into any sports, so that was an indication for my Dad, as you've said it is for you. Trust me, that means nothing!!! I've turned out fine, and I have a beautiful girlfriend. I also understand the thing about the "hot" girls not likeing you!!!LOL!!!
I'll get down off this soapbox, and do some laundry, but I hope that this has helped!!! I must agree 100 percent with Me-They, and Lucy. It's in God's hands, and he'll take care of it.
Ya'll take care, and keep praying for old Barnwannabe.!!!

Boo-I agree with M-T I don't know if there are actually more homos*xuals today. About Sean, Lucy and M-T offered some great advice. I think, you might be worrying a bit too early. I know you're there and I'm not but 11 seems a bit young to be concerned with that. I know in my own life there is always enough to worry about with things that are of the here and now. I try not to worry about things that may never happen. I'm not saying stick your head in the sand or anything like that but if your life is anything like mine there is plenty to tend to right now and I really don't have room for some future mess. Well, there's my opinion, that and 75 cents will get a cup of coffee.

As for liking girls....Kyle told me in first grade at Halloween, "Mom, did you see Megan in that cat suit? My heart was BEEPIN!" THIS WAS IN FRIST GRADE!!! Oh Lord, have mercy on this family. He is girl crazy and is even to the point where sometimes I think he is obsessed. Give Sean some time. He will be fine. Better to let him be a late bloomer and be well adjusted than to be obsessed with having a girl friend. In the words of Billy Dean..."Let them be little, cause they're only that way for a while. Life's Road
God isn't one to compromise;
There is no other way.
He isn't one to bend the rules
Or lead us all astray.
Life's road is straight and narrow
With mountains we must climb,
And the only way to get there
Is one step at a time.
We must focus on the Savior
Or else we'll lose our way.
Life's road is straight and narrow
As we live from day to day.
My prayer to Linda family.

Hello everyone.
To Boo Msg 47014, I prayed that Linda would go peacefully. I only hope that she did.
To Tom Msg 47021, that was a lovely poem to offer in memory of Linda.
One last point about my recent bold posting. Be careful not to limit your observations. Try to consider all posibilities. The earlier you detect and recognize potential problems, the sooner it can be dealt with it.

November 10, 2006 - Msg 47023:
Oh, I am sorry about Keith's wife, BOO.
Warren: That's a long story, but I love Christmas, and have sinse I was a kid, and I start decorating in early November, but I don't go all out until the day after Thanksgiving. At that time, I put up the most Christmas light's in the neighborhood, and in my pine island, I build a Winter Wonderland. Christmas is my favorite time of the year, too, so I guess I try to make it come early, but no one minds.
PH: I am gonna drop it, but I really disagree with that, because the situation could vary. I don't mean that you're wrong, but I doubt that in the previous situation, there is a problem to detect. No offense toward you or anyone else at all, we all have our opinions!!!
See ya'll later!!!

To Barnwannabe and anyone else who disagrees with me, your opinions are welcome. The only way I would take offense is if you folks asked me to leave for being frank. I don't have all the answers. I just try to view things from all possible angles.
Don't forget folks, tomorrow is Veteran's Day. Do something to honor those who served even if it's a simple prayer. I recently discovered a music video clip specifically honoring Canadian veterans, but it can be applied to all veterans. Turn up your speakers and click here.

So which is it Goober Pyle or Goober Beasley? All my life I thought it was Pyle until I saw it listed as Goober Beasley on a site yesterday. Come on TAGS people...someone needs to explain. What episodes give Goober's name?
Charlotte Tucker
November 10, 2006 - Msg 47029:
It's Goober Pyle Charlotte he's Gomer's cousin.
November 10, 2006 - Msg 47030:
I was just thinking that we haven't talked much about TAGS lately. Let's plan a trip to Myer's Lake this weekend...I'm about ready for another bonfire out there. Who's with me?
I wish I had the time to have myself a TAGS marathon tomorrow but that never seems to work out around here when the kids are home from school and my parents are awake. Wouldn't that be great?...TAGS marathon, a bottle of squeezin's and a pan of cashew fudge...I'll sit between Barney and Thelma on the couch and hold the fudge.
Anyone got any exciting plans for the weekend?
Boo
November 10, 2006 - Msg 47031:
Charlotte, in the episode that introduces Goober, it is beasley, but in all the others from then on it is Pyle. Just one of those inconsistancies, like Clara Edwards or Clara...
I sure miss Colt on a day like this where he would tell us about decorating the vets graves etc for tomorrow. I'll call his wife again this weekend and see how things are.
I heard this on the radio:
Many many people, for the last sixty-some years have endured life with one arm or one leg, or no arms or no legs, or blind, or emotionally scarred or in errie trauma, just so that you and i could go to the polls this past Tuesday and vote for real candidates with no fear of reprisal and see a smooth transition of government officials.
We must NEVER forget about our vets and must ALWAYS thank them. For we can do this in a land that flies the symbol of freedom, the stars and stripes, and not a swastika or a rising sun. God, please continue to bless America. Please accept our cries of repentance of our sins and help more people turn to You. Amen
RACing here in Phoenix this weekend, like Bristol here Mavis!
Boo- Myers lake it is, just after the the big veterans day parade!
Love and Prayers for all,

November 10, 2006 - Msg 47033:
Okay Charolette...Here it goes... On the very first episodes of the show where Goober comes into play, he is called Goober Beasley. Later on when he takes over the filling station, he was called by Goober Pyle. As MDC said, just one of those inconsistancies!!!lol!!!
PH: I understand that we all have our own opinions, and I may be wrong, and just not looking at the situation the way you are, and it is just like(I believe it was Boo)said, when we read words, we can't see facial expressions, or hear expressions in people's voices.
GOD BLESS ALL VETERANS!!!
BOO: I'll just jump in and hang on at Myers Lake!!!
I really would like to have a TAGS marathon of my own, too, but just as I sat down to watch, the resturant would call, and have a problem, or need my signature, or something. I guess I should do like Andy on that episode where he says that he's gonna make it easy on Barney and himself, and fine 'em or jail 'em!!! It would be nice, though.
Here's ya'll a quick laugh...I was watching Jay Leno, and he was asking these random people random questions, and he asked a girl what ship the pilgrams came over on, and her response was the Titanic!!!LOL!!!
Well, I'm off to bed.
Good Night!!!

November 10, 2006 - Msg 47034:
Nope, it wasnt a fe*ish thing ...it was not the cat suit, it was the girl in the cat suit. He has always had an appreciation of the female of the species. Of course he wanted to marry three girls in first grade....and when you asked him what getting married meant, he said, "You hug and kiss and play Super Nintendo."
We had a cookout tonight. My grandma is in town and she is not doing well. She is 87 years old and her health has really gone down hill in the last year. We are thinking she may not be around for much longer. She is having problmes breathing in addition to all her other problems. I pray that she will go to sleep in Jesus one night and not wake up. She is miserable and feels guilty that she can not be "productive."
We have tried to tell her that she has spent her life serving others and so now it is time for others to serve her. I made her a plate at lunch today and it so touched me to see her bow her head and thank our Heavenly Father for the meal and her blessings. I know that she is miserable living her life like this, so I ask that when the Father calls her home, my step dad will have peace upon her passing. I would appreciate your prayers for this also.

To Barnwannabe Msg 47033, as for that girl answering the question on the Jay Leno show, it wasn't the Titantic that the pilgrims came over on. It was the Lusitania! Sheeesh! ;)

The Titanic? That is really sad. I'm no history whiz but that is pathetic.
Prayers for your Grandma, HM.
I was so tired that I went to bed at 8:30 last night (unheard of) and didn't get out of bed until 9:30 this morning. I have been trying to burn the candle at both ends and really needed the rest. It's funny how you can go and go and then finally your body comes to a slamming halt and HAS to rest. It's a shame to push it to that degree but I just get so overwhelmed with things that I have to do! I am very thankful that I can still get things done, though.
Myer's Lake it is! Who's bringing the marshmallows?

November 11, 2006 - Msg 47045:
Hey Boo, can you stand another comment on your worries about Sean? Well tough, I'm going to tell you anyway.;)
Like others have said, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I know in my own life, I didn't have any interest in girls until I was out of high school. I mean, there were the girls here and there and I had crushes on, but I never would do anything about it and I wouldn't tell anyone about it either, so on the outside I probably looked like I didn't like girls either.
But in school I was more into video games, making stop-motion movies, and just watching my favorite tv shows, and I had no problem with being by myself. I loved it, actually. I am still kinda that way now, although I don't have as much of a choice as to being around people. Not that I would trade being around Kai for my solitude, but I still like just doing my own thing at times.
Another reason you shouldn't worry about it so much... weren't you the one saying that Sean didn't want to go trick or treating this year because of the pagan influences of Halloween? I'd say that boy has a good foundation under his feet that is going to serve him well in periods of confusion in his life.
Now, all that said, you still should be mindful of influences around him(as you already are), because there are people and groups trying to use that childhood confusion we all go through growing up and dealing with our changing bodies and thought processes, as a vehicle to introduce their own ideas and agendas. And that is a dangerous thing, because it can lead a child with that naturally occurring confusion to think to himself that maybe he is just having all this confusion and these body issues because he IS gay. And there are plenty of people and tv shows that would promote and encourage that type of thinking.
But see with a good foundation of traditional values and the truth, he is less likely to be deceived.
Prayers for your Grandma, Fungirl. You know, we go through our lives, mostly concerned about our own day to day living. Well, I have really come to admire older people. If you think about how many ways you could die or be killed, and these are people who have lived through all of those possible tragedies.
I think about the show Survivor, and all those people playing this game of little challenges for 30-some days. The elderly are the real survivors. They have survived through the toughest challenge of all - life.
Have a good day all!
-Sterling Holobyte

Boo, I will keep Keith and family in my prayers,as well as your grandmother, fun girl.
Barnwannabee, that doesn't surprise me about the STUPID answer the girl gave to Leno's question. I worked for over a year in a call center where I talked to folks all across America. There are lots of nuts out there besides Ernest T.,let me tell ya! One lady told me that she didn't want the credit card protection plan I was offering her-that she was just calling in to " aggravate" her new card- she meant "activate."!!
Well,I'll join y'all over at Myers Lake tonight on one condition- promise that nobody's gonna jab at me with one of them long poinky marshmallow sticks!
