Hahaha! "That must be annoying." I just love it! Leave it to a kid, they'll cut to the chase every time.
I think I've shared this before, but newcomers might enjoy it. When our youngest daughter was about four, we had a discussion going on at the table one night, and she was just listening. The older kids had heard a news report about some horrible crime that was committed, and one asked why God didn't just take all the people who do bad things out of the world. The 4-yr old was eating her dinner, but managed to say "I know why". Her father, ever tactful, said, "Oh, please enlighten us, little wise one!" She turned her big baby blues on him and said very simply, "Because if he did that, there wouldn't be anybody left but him and Jesus." Even the older kids, ages 8 and 10, were taken aback. We all just sat and stared, while she continued to munch away, unaware that she had just dropped a huge theological bomb. Don't you know that God was chuckling at that? He just had to be!
OK, this time I'm really going to bed. Nite, nite, termites. --Romeena

You're right, ROMEENA, they sure do. Neat story about your daughter.
I've noticed lately that the postings during the day have been down the past few weeks. Sometimes I get downright lonely. What is it with you people? Don't you have priorities? What, do have lives to lead or something? Gosh, man, get it together! Posting should be your number three job (after stalking and fly killing, naturally). Jobs, spouses, kids, and that old chestnut of an excuse: sleeping after being up all night--you people are living in another world!

Afternoon porch. Just stopping by for a minute. been busy today. I need to find a easier job.. one where I don't have to work but can make money anyway? anyone have any ideas? Romeena, what great stories you have.. you could write a book of wise saying and wisdoms from your experiences. I know I would buy one and even give them for Christmas! How did we go from October 10th with homemakers message #46218 to Me-they message # 46219 on the 11th. Did I fall asleep at work today? or is it the count around here today? have a good day. I was just listening to "Fresh Air" (talk about a misnamed show) on NPR. A Pakistani professor who basically is trying to put a positive spin on Islam (his book is called, "Islam Under Seige")was discussing his education. He said that he had attended a Catholic mission school in Pakistan and his wife and sisters had attended a school runs by nuns there. The host questioned him on this and he said that then, and even now, many of the very best schools in Pakistan are Christian schools. He had fond memories of the priests at his school and said he considered them "father figures" who exemplified positive virtues. I found that fascinating. I guess a seed was planted, even if it hasn't germinated yet.
Well, back to the grindstone.

Lot's of folks just don't come around anymore. You are the reason I look forward to Mondays, MDC, because I know you will be back on with some interesting topic of discussion after not much going on during the weekends. Please keep coming back!

Hey, all. Big Maude, I'll trade you my salmon for your king crab legs. Deal? I'll eat salmon if it's served in someone's home, but it's not my favorite. Crab legs, however.... YUM!
I've noticed the absences of a lot of our folks, too, and am wondering if there's a message there. Is it possible that we've strayed too far into "support group" mode and political commentary (guess I'm the worst offender there), and lost track of our original platform? Now, I'm not advocating that we stop sharing one another's burdens, I think that's almost a ministry here. As for the political stuff, maybe we should lighten up a bit, and I'm speaking to myself first of all. We probably need to concentrate more heavily on TAGS-related conversation, and make the porch more fun again. What do you think, folks?
Well, I'm off to work again. Drat. Sure wish I could retire, but it's just not in the realm of possibility right now. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Yes, the tone of the porch has changed, but so have our times. I think folks have a sense of uneasiness right. Face it, there are alot of problems to face and I think it helps to talk about some of those things and to pray for each other. I think that is always in order, but I do miss the way the porch used to feel more like an escape from the real world. Remember the imaginary cyber-trips to the movies in Mt. Pilot and the bonfires at Myer's lake we used to have. We used to talk alot about the way things "used to be" and our memories of a time that was like Mayberry. I do miss that. Maybe we can bring some of that back, especially with the holidays coming up. I know I would really love to hear more of all of your childhood memories, the things that make you love Mayberry and more talk of such. Sometimes it seems like I just run out of things that I haven't already told ya'll about! I will share a memory...let's see...did anyone watch The Pink Panther cartoon on Saturday morning when you were a kid? I never missed it!
May Andy recover soon, poor guy.
Well, promised Erin I would watch a little TV with her before bedtime. I watched Dancing with The Stars tonight and really enjoyed it. Mario was great tonight and so was Emmet.

I think you are right tho about the current porch. We are all affected by North Korea, Iraq, scool shootings, DC problems, Colt's situation, parents, music like REV mentioned, PCness etc. Pray, yes, but as I have tried to do and say here, we MUST stand up at such a time as this and not cower in the corner any more. Make a bumper sticker honoring Jesus as i did, do whatever you can. I have a Christian calendar at work etc.
The best saying i have heard is this: "If you were dragged into court just for being a Christian, would they have to dismiss the case for lack of evidence?" Is the world changing the church or is the church changing the world?
But also, yes, lets talk those old times etc. Colt always got us going on such things. Let's do it for him. Man, I miss that guy. We met here, but we really shared a lot off the site and became friends. I love all you folks. You help me relax and drift away for a bit!

Good morning everyone. It’s chilly and foggy here, but still kinda nice. It was a rough night with the baby last night. Thank goodness the Mrs. was home.
Too political? I know that you’re not talking about me ;). Actually, I’m probably the worst offender of bringing up politics and other controversial subjects. I don’t mean anything by it, it’s just so much fun to discuss things with y’all. I don’t get to jaw about important things too much with others who may not completely agree but are still on the same page. I realize now that I have gone overboard lately. I’m sorry.
I miss the more lighthearted stuff, too. I definitely don’t think that we should not throw the prayer requests and occasional serious discussions overboard, but it would be nice to have more light conversation as well. As bizarre as it might be to some, I view you all as friends. I may not know all your names or what you look like, but I feel I know the more important stuff—who you are. I get that by experiencing the range of conversation that takes place. I don’t want to just to experience the light veneer but the warts and all. Is that kooky?
So, I’m with those of you who advocate a wide range of discussion. The only thing I wouldn’t like to see is chit-chat. I like regular conversation, but I can’t stand chit-chat ;).
Unless I hear otherwise, I’m going to continue to share the things that effect my life, and sometimes they just aren’t pleasant. But I am going to try and stifle some of my rhetoric (what? me, verbose?). As friends, please don’t hesitate to let me know when I need to drop something or just shaddup. Sometimes it’s hard for me to see with that darned log in my eye. Y’all are just the best.
I’ll stop back later.

Hey Y'all! I try to get on the Porch during the day,but I have Laci from 7-5:30pm which makes it hard to find the time. Can't take my eyes off of her-she's go,go,go! Can y'all imagine what I'll be in for when we get her walking?
Mr Knozit! Ha! Hey Rev,let's go to Columbia Friday when Joe Pinner is doing his weather forecast for WIS and see if we can get him to put his big Mr.Knozit coat on and show cartoons to us! Non-South Carolinians won't have a clue what I'm talking about here, will they? Maybe he'll even ask us what we want to be when we grow up! So Rev,don't make any other plans for Friday,ok?
I've had Asa & Colt on my mind alot lately. Hope they are coming along okay, I miss them both,as I'm sure everyone does.
Well, let me get back to Laci-y'all have a good day!

BOO: Who are calling neurotic? Me? Did you say something about me? Are you talking about me behind my back? No offense taken at all! Now if you were to have said I'm sensitive, that would have been different. The only thing I'm sensitive about is people calling me sensitive.
Yes, I hate mayo. I am loathe to admit that it is sometimes necessary. But, only the absolute minimum amount to actually hold the potato salad together must be used. Or I will be totally grossed out.
Let me rephrase that dancing thing: Methodists are not supposed to dance. Hot socks or no. You can play tunes but no clapping. And as far as that raffle goes, you can forget that gambling, too! What are trying to do, turn this into a regular Sin Town? About the Baptists, my nephew (whose Baptist) once had this to say: "Baptists can't do anything."
That reminds me that I was watching CMT last night and heard Dolly Parton talking about her grandfather, who was a "holy-roller preacher." She said that the way he preached on Hel*l you could feel the heat. I thought that was funny.

hm, I got hot knees! Hey y'all. just woke up from that wild night with Millie, Boo and MDC. I told ya that they serve beer over the county line! Sure hope I didn't buy a cow and ride it. All I can remember is some squeaky ladies shouting something about Barney over at the jiga-something in Yancey. Oh my head... what a mess I've made of my life...On a more serious side, I didn't mean to imply that political soapboxing was a bad thing, and I dearly love the religious discussions here. I think it's all good. Sometimes it's hard to scroll thru the long list of entries (some things may be more apropriate for IM-instant messaging), but it's all good. Just don't mention... VICKS!

Woohoo! Things sure are lively and Mayberry-esque around here. I love it! I agree with all that has been said. Like I said at the beginning, I was mostly referring to myself. Being a widder lady, and no one home to talk to but the Plum, who doesn't listen most of the time, I tend to abuse this forum for expressing my opinions, and I'm going to try to remedy that. I still want to know what everyone else thinks, though, because there's a lot to be learned. You folks have some marvelous insights. However, let's keep the fun stuff coming, too. Today has seemed like old times.
Some big old heavy-duty prayers for our dear Andy are in order. Thanks, Poor Horatio, for that link. Looks pretty serious, but Andy's tough, and we'll keep praying.

According to our Floyd, Andy is home and recovering well and has been for some time. (I read it over at Miss Crumps a few weeks back but the post is now gone). The article is exaggerating to a great degree. Maybe Floyd can pipe in here sometime with an update.
Miss Reagan (who is the reason I don't post too often : ) ) has rolled over tummy to back for the first time today! She's also been trying to sit straight up from a reclined position. It's too cute!

Just wanted to let you know, over on MSN.com(if you've been there before)in the little box with the pics in it to the left of the screen, where they advertise stuff, they've got a section called"What would Barney do?", refering to the one and only Bernard Milton Fife of course!!! I just noticed it on my way to post here, and thought I'd let you know!!! Now I'm gonna go read it!!!

Me-They you are in some form today! You nearly made me spew my Miracle Whip sandwich. Hilarious stuff (especially the part about widders and Uncle Ollie...can imagine the look on Romeena's face when she read it).
As far as the coc*tail sauce goes, I think that OXY Magic spot remover works great on just about anything I have tried. Just spray it on realy good, rub and let it sit for a few minutes before putting it in the washer. Even if the spot doesn't come out the first washing, chances are it will if you repeat the process.
Think I'll go to church meeting tonight, we are having visitation (that is one thing Baptists CAN do, M-T). Need to shower and shave the legs (wouldn't want to scare off any potential new members).

Afternoon, all! Me-They, you are very kind. I admire your wit and gentle humor. Your spiritual gift, I think, is to be a peacemaker and an encourager. As for me not expressing my opinions, I do want to modify things a bit, but in truth I think there's only one thing to say about that - fat chance! (harhar)
It's good to hear that the stories of Andy's condition are outdated and overblown. That's good. We need his gentle presence on this planet. There are just some people who become icons, and it's hard to imagine the world without them in it. Steve Irwin was one. I miss him, I really do, and my heart breaks for Terri. Forget JFK and Jackie, if you ask me, Steve and Terri found Camelot.

I agree, Andy is one of those all time great's that will be crushing to me to lose (like Don was). But good to know we'll all be together in The Great By And By. The Plum is fine, Mrs. Wiley, thanks for asking. She'll be twelve in December, but you'd never know it. Zips around here like a puppy, all self-important and full of energy. Her vet is still watching the possible Cushing's syndrome thing, wants to draw blood again in three months. However, she's lost half a pound with no changes in her diet, and that's good. Cushing's causes weight gain, not loss. I think it may have been just a metabolic "hiccup", nothing to worry about. We'll see. Meantime, she seems to be just fine.
Well, I'm thinking of heading for bed early tonight. Didn't sleep but an hour or so after I got home from work this morning, and am feeling it. You all have a great evening, the Plum and I are going to hit the ironing board. She says 10-4. --Romeena

Hi Folks! Just to let you know my current situation on posting, I , like MT, used to post at lunch and breaks, but now at this bank job i have restricted access, (I tried to sweet talk the IS guy, like HM did, but that didnt go over very well! ha). So, since i dont have net at home, I will only be able to post about once a day from the library. I just read my latest post and was perhaps too strong, sorry. But we have to stand up and be counted, whether we're dancing or not! (ha)
Hope Lucy, Dixie, AFD and others are ok.
CT, Auh20, MT etc, sure let's have those discussions too, but we should always come back to TAGS in my humble opinion ,like they do at Miss crumps.
Like today, that plane crash just made my heart sink. I prayed. But i can also come here and be lifted up! THANKS!

Hey Mrs. Wiley, Ro, Millie, and MDC (sure hope Ro gets a good night's sleep, bless her heart).
Wish we could hear from you more often, MDC. Don't you have a computer at home yet?
Millie, the pumpkin patch sounds like fun. They try to do that down here but the pumpkins get real mushy quick because of the heat. Walking around and sweating in a pumpkin patch just doesn't seem right, you know?
Tonight at church I met a woman who is new to the church. Her name is Sharon and she is a really sweet Christian lady. She started telling us that she has a son who is in his early 20's, I think and has been missing for 5 years. He got involved with drugs and they don't know if he is dead or alive. I can't imagine what that poor mother is going through. She broke down and cried when she was telling us. They are very nice, decent people. Her husband was the director of a University and now is teaching high school. I feel so sorry for them. The boy's name is Nathaniel and I wanted to ask you all to send up a prayer for him and his parents, please. I appreciate it (you folks are the best).
Gotta go, still have to put together a jello salad for a luncheon tomorrow and finish my homework for bible study tomorrow...
