Hey, Millie. Your name is on the prayer list at my church. Have fun on your vacation, you deserve it more than anyone I know.
Boo, that guy you're asking about is a shill. The Muslims run somebody like that by us now and then, to keep the pacifists, the far left and the Kumbaya crowd all tuned up, and to keep us off guard. What they don't want is for all of America to get on the same side at the same time, and decide to deal with them.
Well, a can of chili will make a good lunch, if I can open the can. My right paw is still in a semi-cast, but I think I can manage. I'll be glad to get rid of this thing. I can use my fingers, but the brace/cast completely fills my palm, over an inch thick, so I can't hold anything in my hand.

Made the mistake of watching the news this morning, how depressing. I heard that a missionary nun who had been working in Africa for five years was shot because of what the pope said (or quoted from a book). I was upset because I saw this coverage on Fox news and one of the commentators on the show said, "That shouldn't have happened"...and I thought she was talking about the nun being killed. It turns out she was talking about the pope saying what he did! HELLO??? The world has gone crazy.

Regarding the Pope’s comments, I’m pleased that he apologized for any grief he caused. After all, as a representative of the Christian faith, he needs to set an example of Christian humility and love. His apology didn’t say anything like "Islam is a religion of peace" or anything; he simply said he was sorry for any bad feelings his comments caused. I don’t think he intentionally tried to anta-gonize, but he could have done better than to read a quote from a Medieval king who thought it was completely acceptable to kill Moslems first and ask questions later. I’m not trying to be an apologist for Islam, but I believe that we must do the right thing no matter what those who come against us do. Just because others are callous or inflamatory does not mean we can be. Professed Christians are/will be held to a higher standard than un-believers. We’re supposed to know better.
I don’t think that Islam is a religion of peace. There is only one religion of peace, because true peace comes from only one source. That said, I believe most Moslems are probably peaceful people. While some surely are evil (like the terrorists), others have been misled through deceit. They are poor souls to be pitied, living in the dark. Though we must defend our faith, country and families, we must do what we can to shed Christ’s light to them. And that means having a Christ-like spirit. I believe the Pope did that with his apology.
Remember…”You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 14:44-48).
Well, I better go get to work. They don’t pay me to sit and porch! See y’all at lunch.

Good morning, folks! A beautiful morning here in North Texas, after a rainy weekend. Temp only 64, but heading for the 80s. Cheer up, Boo, maybe some cool air really is heading your way.
Islam most definitely is not a religion of peace. Priests, nuns and other missionaries have been killed in many countries of the world in the past, but usually by primitive, aboriginal people, reacting out of ignorance and fear. That nun was killed by supposedly "peaceful, religious people", if we're to believe their front men. In truth, they are not peaceful, they are vicious, scheming religious nuts, and they will kill you and me at the first opportunity. I work with a nurse from Lagos, Nigeria, and I quote: "They are mean, those people. They are crazy." She has lived here for twenty years, and remembers how it was there before she left. Recently I worked with another nurse from the other end of Nigeria, who with her husband barely escaped with her life, as the Muslims were destroying her little village, home to mostly Christian people. She remembers driving past dead bodies on the road as they headed for Lagos. They stayed there only long enough to secure visas, and came to the US to live. This was one year ago. To quote her: "Never trust them. They will look at you and smile, and in their mind they are plotting aomething, always plotting how to hurt someone else."
They are a difficult opponent, because they don't fear death, they welcome it, thinking that to die for killing an "infidel" will secure their place in paradise. The only thing that keeps them in check in this country is the fact that they probably wouldn't die, but would molder in a jail somewhere, while our justice system plods along, and ends up just giving them more jail time. No glory or 72 virgins in that. Thus, the suicide missions. Death is certain for them then.
In other countries, such as Indonesia, they run rampant. They rape, torture, mutilate and murder. I saw a film smuggled out of Indonesia by the missionary son of a man in my church. He left because it was too dangerous to remain. It was sickening. Women with their noses cut off because they dared to appear without the veil. Children with their hands cut off, for no reason. Churches burned to the ground. There was more, but I'll spare you.
Me-They, your scriptural point is well taken, but I recall that there were numerous occasions where God sent the children of Israel in to completely annihilate a group of people who were a major threat, people whom God knew were not going to repent. I'm not advocating that we attempt a genocide, but neither do I have any desire to "hug" these people. We must wake up, draw a line in the sand, and resist them, or our choice will someday be to convert or die. If not for us, then our children will face it. I only hope we are teaching our children thoroughly enough that they will choose to die before converting.
Well, having started everyone's day off on such a happy note, I guess I'll move on. I hope I haven't upset anyone, but this issue is one that we need to understand and face.
Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena
September 18, 2006 - Msg 45514:
I completely agree that we need to make a stand, ROMEENA. No offense taken. Being kind and loving does not mean being naive, unprepared or a doormat. True, there were many cases in the Bible where God tells the Isrealites to annihilate. But the fact is that they didn't make that decision on their own, based on what they thought God would want.
Christ told us that Christians would be persecuted by those who think they are doing God a favor (can't remember chapter and verse--a little help, please!). Our number one job is not to survive (or fly killin'), but to glorify and share Christ. All things must be measured through that. We must strive so that others see Christ through all that we do. Personally, I have a lot of work ahead.

Yes, Idelle, the nun was killed in Africa, but as others have stated, that isn't an unusual thing. Auh2o, I have been doing some reading along the lines of Christians being persecuted in Africa (namely the Sudan) and according to what I have read, Muslims are certainly killing people because they are Christians. I shared about the Sudanese believer's whose families have been killed and even crucified because they were Christian, starved, you name it. The kids in my class want to start a collection to send to the Sudanese missionaries.
I want to share something with you. I have an Uncle who is 76. He is blind and was converted to Christianity when he had a near fatal accident in his 20's, which left him in a coma with little chance of recovery. My grandmother stayed with him and prayed for him. He had lived quite a wild lifestyle up to this point. My grandmother said she saw a vision of Christ at that time and he told her that her son would live. He soon came out of the coma and was fine except that he was completely blind. He also told that Jesus was with him while he was in the coma and that he was now a Christian and would give his life to God's service. He went right into seminary and became a Methodist minister. He served as a minister for years and then became a Christian counselor. He is still pretty active, anyway I remember that he was the first person I knew personally that God "talked" to....you know what I mean. He had a personal relationship with Jesus and that was foreign to me when I was a kid. Once, about 20-some years ago, he shared something with me that was scary and I think about it alot now. He said that the Lord gave him a vision and that in the vision, he saw the US and saw a huge black cloud slowly descending and covering the US. When he asked the Lord what the cloud was, the Lord told him, "Islam". Well, I didn't think much about it then but I do now!
Me-They, I know that I, too, feel terrible for the many born into Islam who know no different and walk in darkness. I don't think that most Muslims are peaceful, though. I have heard too much. The stories I have heard about Islams who convert to Christianity and what their own families do to them. I went to a huge youth conference in Houston a couple of years ago and heard a missionary speak who had been in a prison in Iraq for preaching the gospel. He told stories about young people being killed and disowned by thier own families. It was really terrible. If you think about it, though, it isn't those persecuted believes who are to be pitied as much as those in darkness who will die and face God's judgement some day. Maybe that is what you are talking about, Me-They.
Talked enough for now!

Boo-I did word that poorly, I agree, "Muslims are certainly killing people because they are Christians." What I meant to say is that it is not the only reason they kill, because someone is a Christian. There is no shortage of "reason" as to why they kill. ( I was in a bit of a hurry earlier but wanted to spout off nonetheless, haha). I wanted to convey the thought that it is going to have to be Muslims that actually clean up this mess. We can and we should defend ourselves, and others, but to take care of this problem Muslims have to clean their own house. Also, that was a fascinating story.
Big Maude-Supper sounds super, seriously!

You know, we can disagree with one another on this here porch, but the "all things relative" rule applies. I mean, most all of us are not only usually on the same page but reading the same paragraph. Our disagreements tend to be over degrees, and not ideas. Sometimes we may lose sight of that so I just thought I'd point it out.

To answer your question about my uncle; no, I have not had any indepth discussion with him about it but I think I will soon. He lives in Waco, which is several hours from here so I don't see him often. He obviously can't email. He has a wonderful wife who passes my messages onto him but it is really past time for a nice, long conversation. I always loved visiting them in their home because it always felt so peaceful there and we had the most wonderful conversations. I love to ask them both questions because they have been serving the lord for a long time. They were like mentors to me when I was first saved. I could tell all kinds of stories about them.
Yes, Me-They, it would be great if we could all get together at Mayberry Days but I don't think that would be possible for me for awhile. No more vacations until this house is built. We have decided to make a change in the way we are doing things. Instead of starting on the house first, we will be buying a tractor to do the ground work that needs to be done, fencing the acres, digging the well and building the barn in the next 6 months, so that we can have all of that paid for before we actually start building. That way, we will have less to finance and while we are still living here with my folks, we can afford to do that. Does anyone know anything about donkeys (I know, you are thinking..."where in the world did TAHT come from?").

Well, Me-They, we have five acres so the barn won't be too big. Big enough to drive a tractor through and store some hay. Also some stalls on the side. Nothing too fancy but I hope it will be red.
I have heard some pretty neat things about donkeys. I would like to have a standard size gelding at some point, maybe 2. I want the kids to do some 4H projects and I'm thinking about goats for that. I don't think we will have horses for awhile. I also want a miniture cow someday after we get the house built. I'm not really worried about the dog/donkey thing. The back two acres that will contain the animals will be well-fenced. We have the one big black lab who is afraid of her own shadow so I think she will have a nervous breakdown after one glimpse of a donkey.
Better go, I am still feeling pretty crummy from this cold. My throat is really irritated and every time I try to sleep I wake up feeling like I am choking. I found the Vicks last night but dropped it and it rolled under the bed, where it remains...now way was I crawling under there after it!

KYgirl...The soup sounds good. Sure I will pray.
Colt & Boo...you are both so right about us being so blessed to have a nice place to lay down to sleep.
Gas was down to $2.11 today here in SC.
I would love to go to Mayberry Days but I'm afraid there's no way to make it this year. That would be so neat to have a "porch" gathering.
Boo....that is an awesome story. I would love to be able to sit and listen to him for hours.
As for the muslim and Islam discussion....all we need to do is look at there teachings. Plain and simple, they teach violence. How can anyone stay in a religion that is grounded in this. As for some of their followers being deceived, I don't buy that. If a person is old enough to make a choice to follow a "way", then that person is old enough to know what he/she is following. Yes, I do pray for those in that mess, that they will come to Jesus Christ, but I do NOT for once believe we should hide in our closet and just pray. Sometimes we need to put feet to those prayers and sometimes that may be taking a bold stance against evil. We need to shine forth Christ love everyday but there are those that you CAN'T turn the other cheek to and love them into heaven. I believe by turning the other cheek to this evil, you not only open the door for more darkness but I believe you may even loose some to the evil one instead of winning some.
Sorry for rambling..It's hard (for me) to type my thoughts.
Everyone have a great night and yes, pray for our nation and all nations. Prayers for my porch family.

Rev- in a sad yet 'funny' way, if the Pope had quoted the first line of your final paragraph above, it would have started all over again.! That's how sad this is, they will not even let someone "express something" (even a 500 year old quote) without firebombing churches etc. Well, I think the vision of Boo's Uncle says it all really. I'm sliding my box under the porch.
OK,
In honor of Mayberry Days, how bout we try another quote-a-thon!? Cheer things up here on the porch. I'll start from the Manicurist episode.
Andy: Now Ellen, I dont know if you know it or not, but nature's been good to you; I mean real, real, reeeaaalll good!
Mayor, besides the Bithday declaration, how bout a mayberry days declaration? I'll bring the balloons.
DWF- I will have to watch that one and report. Like you, i been watching more tags lately.
Boo, I know a donkey TALKED in the old testament! ha
BTW, make sure you get CONSTRUCTION insurance. A lot of people dont think of that. If something happens during construction, you'll be covered. I learnt that in my short stint with Richmond American Homes.
I have another interview in the morning with MidFirst bank.
I been using squeezins in my car, 10 cents a gallon! ha Just kidding, it's about 2.40 here in Phx.
Ro- ah, nothing like that good vinyl-tasting, clorinated gardenhose water! haha
BWB- we have a great old dirt track here. i have watched the midgets and quarters a few times. lots of old fashion fun.

Good morning everyone. It’ll just have to be a quick hello this morning. I need a backhoe for my desk.
BOO: Your property sounds great. Five acres is perfect; just enough to do what you want and keep the world at a distance and not too much to take care. We have almost two acres, and I wish we had a few more. House and land prices being what they are around here, though, we’re lucky to have what we’ve got.
AFD: Let us know how it goes. Veda goes for her two-month on Thursday. She’s been sleeping 6-8 hours a night the last week or so.
TOM: I hope that you hear from them soon.
REV: I understand how you feel. It certainly is a difficult issue. I would just ask, if the Bible tells us that false prophets will be able to mislead believers (people who should know better—emphasis on should), how much of a chance do those who probably have never heard the Truth and been fed lies since birth have?
Well, it’s nearly raining here and they say that fall weather is behind the rain. We’ll see. I hope that summer doesn’t end that abruptly.

All the Roy Rogers restaurants around here were bought out by Hardees in the late 1980s, then sold off in the 90s. There are a few independently owned in the area, but the food is definitely not what it once was. I'd have to be mighty hungry to stop there.

I wasn't gonna do this but I'm gonna. I just want to clear up any misconceptions some of y'all might have about the things I've said lately.
My position is this: We must stand against evil, and that certainly doesn't mean hiding in the closet or rolling over. "Kumbaya" it ain't. But, "there but by the grace of God go I," and, as we are commanded to love our enemies, we must truly be pained when we do what sometimes we must. And remember all the things the Bible tells us love is not? It is not boastful, angry, scornful, etc. Yes, sometimes we must, and we'd better, stand against evil. But we should be saddened to our core, even driven to painful tears, not just for our own losses but for the losses of our enemies. That's what one feels when people they love are hurt or killed. That's all I'm trying to say. And that's my final word on the subject. Probably.

Good Mornin' Porch,
I'm finally here to sit for a brief spell. I've been busier than a beaver lately. With Nick going to school 30 min. away and 2+ hrs of homework each night for both boys I'm raggedy Ann. Hope all are well!
Me-They- Is the baby doing well? Does your wife work? Hubby and I were talking about my going back to work for Christmas money and I don't know how with the boys schedules.
Millie- What is the name and address for your restaurant? Hubby's going to Richmond this weekend for a conference. We were supposed to go with him, but Nick has 4 F's for his first progress report and has 2 tests on Friday so we can't go with him. Maybe hubby can swing by while there. Can you tell I'm heartbroken?
Rev- I thought things would be slowing down for ya since the summer's over. You take it easy now, ya hear?
Boo- How are Sean and Erin doing?
MDC- Good luck on the interview. May the Lord be with you.
Big Maude- This mornin' our gas is 2.22 in Atlanta. Aren't ya thankful its going down? Has football started yet for your son?
AFD- I just love the name Reagan. Its my 4 year old neices name and she's a doll. As I'm sure your's is. Have ya gone back to work?
Colt- You silly goose! Egg in a bottle.
Floyd- I wish I could go to Mayberry Days. I will one year.
Tom- I liked your last poem. I guess being from Ohio you'd be a Steeler's fan. Of course being in Atlanta I have to be a Falcon's fan.
Goober- How's your wife feelin'?
Spot- what's for lunch?
I have to make a few phone calls. I have a conference at Nick's school because of his grades and missing homework assignments. He's been a bit more calm lately, because hubby's been home. I'm trying not to live in the spirit of fear, but whenever hubby leaves Nick acts up with Bryson and I. I'm waiting for the care ministry director at our church to call me back because our insurance only pays for 20 sessions and we'd have to pay for 30% of the bill. We can't afford that right now. Since Nick's moved in our bank account has never been so low. Anyway, I'd better get busy. I love y'all and think of ya often. Have a Mayberry Day!
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy Matthews
Blessed is the name of the Lord!

Hey Folks,
Me-They I do agree with you on just about all that you post. Also, I really enjoy reading your posts and I am not even sure if we disagree about the current conversation. The one thing that I fear is, while we are told to love our enemy, I hope that we do not become frozen, by our love, when it is time to make that "stand against evil." The enemy here is quite apparent; they shout it from the roof tops. They have been attacking us for at least 30 years. I would suggest that it about time to bring this to an end, for our good, as well as, theirs. For example, I don't believe that Harry Truman took much joy when ordering the bombing of Japan but how many lives did he save? How much sooner did the war end because of his decisive action? I am not saying that we need to "nuke" anyone but we need to respond decisively. Like I said, I don't even know if we disagree.
Back to the quote-a-thon;
Goober: "I hope I don't get carsick."
Barney: "Opie, you switch places with Goomer."

Me-They, your point above is valid, and I think we all agree. It's no secret that I'm more hawk than dove when it comes to terrorists and the culture that breeds them. It does hurt me that our country is bombing and killing supposedly innocent people over there. That's war. 'Twas ever thus. Yet I know we are dealing with an enemy so evil that pre-emptive measures are abolutely necessary.
As for the question of what chance they have, because they were born into Islam, I am reminded of the young woman of whom I've spoken in the past. Raised in Islam, steeped in their culture, but she left her home and family, came here as a seeker, found Christ and was saved, and now cannot go home because her own family would murder her. Why did she do this? Because she felt something stir in her heart, that told her Islam was wrong. She could not understand why Allah would want the allegiance of converts who were converted under threat of death. It made no sense to her, and so she came to the US to find some answers. She found them, and stayed, a true convert who is paying a high price because she converted, not because she was threatened if she didn't. She believes there is such a moment for everyone, but very few Muslims answer it as she did.
My church responded by loving her, supporting her, raising money for her legal expenses to secure her permanent visa, helping her find a job, including her in social events and she has repaid us by presenting a lovely face each Sunday, glowing with the love of Christ.
Lastly, I'm reminded of the scripture in Romans, where we are told that even God gave some over to their "reprobate mind", the implication being that He knows they are not going to repent, not going to change, and must be handed over to their self-imposed fate. That's pretty much how I see Islam. My friend is an example of the wooing of the Holy Spirit in every heart at some point, but in that culture, very few answer. If none did, then I would say their background makes it impossible, and would feel a great deal more pity for them. But some do respond, and that can't be ignored. It's the proof.
And that's My final word on the subject. (Anybody believe that?) --Romeena

They can be little devils. Milk goats you will have to milk and meat goats are readily easy, 'cept for you have to trim feet on any breed you buy.

And I need to see a doctor? Puh-lease! This woman is not the mama who raised me. I give up.Best thing I can do is stay away. Why is she so hateful towards me you wonder? Because I tell things like they are and stand on the truth. Some people don't like that, especially my mom & sisters.Whatever. I'm holding tight to my convictions.
Sorry to rant,I really am.This isn't the place for it.Just wanted my Porch family to know that I'm going through all this mess-again. I'll be okay. Hey,at least Laci is doing GREAT with her casts! She'll be running around my rock before too long!

"Kumbaya, my Lord....." heehee...no, Romeena, I don't believe that will be your last word on the subject and it won't be for Me-They either! You know what's funny is that I have been Methodist and Baptist and Me-They's point of view is the one I learned in the Methodist church (and he attends a Methodist church) and Romeena's view seems more of a Baptist view (a little bit Calvanistic)....just an interesting observation. Maybe the fact that I was Methodist and Baptist is why I can't seem to come to a decision on the issue, ha.
Hey Lucy, Sean and Erin are doing fine right now. I am fighting a really gross sore throat (still!).
Thanks for the advice, Homemaker. I have seen pygmy goats get out of fences that seemed impossible. I once knew one that they called Houdini. He would actually wait until noone was looking and then get out so nobody ever knew how he was doing it...smart goat. He was alot of fun but could be a problem. I don't remember if I told ya'll about the 2 pygmy goats we had terrorizing the neighborhood about a year ago? They were so cute but they ate everyone's landscaping. I think they eventually got bar-b-qued.
Better go. I'm making some chili today. Have the rest of you made your first batch of fall chili, yet? You know we always have this conversation every fall.
