Hey Folks,
Romeena-Your words to Me-They hit close to home here. While I was in college my wife got a fantastic promotion, which scuttled our plans. I have a couple of degrees and she never finished but she's the bread winner at present. I was working at Motorola an attending school and when I quit the plant to be a full-time "Mr Mom" ... well, let me say there was plenty of ribbing. I never thought that this would be our arrangement but there it is.
Rev-Sounds great. Lets eat.
MDC-Thanks, it's good to be seen and yes, I did see that episode of "History Detectives."

Tom I have no plans of leaving this old porch, no matter where my tv appearances take me. :) possum I guess I'll make an exception & come over to your rock to sign it, since it would be hard for a possum to stand in line with paper & pen. Boo & Idelle I had my first & only boy at 26, & he is the light of my life! That comment about red means stop made me laugh, but Jake has blonde hair, so guess I opted for yellow means caution. LOL MDC never heard if the cat I had found a home or not, she was left at the door of the shelter in a crate with food. Some people don't deserve to be called human! Idelle, I am sure you can be perfectly happy with the two darling blessings God has given you. My only concern is that you said "there's no going back" but that the dog and the hubby still need to get fixed....better get that done or you never know! I have a good friend who is 35 and has 2 children. She tells me she would just die if she were to get pregnant but she has done nothing permanent to prevent it. I have tried to help her convince her husband to do it but he is scared to death that it will affect his "manhood". My husband had a vasectomy after our daughter was born and it was not a problem at all. He did het a bit weak and pale during the procedure, heehee...of course I was there to observe, standing right over the doctor's shoulder. It did my heart good to see my husband in the stirrups for a change!
MDC, I am familiar with Promensil. It's made from red cloverleaf extract and is good stuff. I kind of forgot about it. Maybe I'll get some, thanks.
Better hit the sack, pretty tired tonight. I had a stressful evening dealing with Sean and his multiplication!

Good morning everyone! We're supposed to get 5-10 inches of rain between tonight and tomorrow so that should make the grass happy.
Thanks for your kind words, ROMEENA. Although if I have my druthers I would like the Mrs. to stay home, we figured out a long time ago that I would have to work many, many more hours to even possibly consider it. And we figured it didn't make good sense to gain more time with mom by almost eliminating time with dad. I'm okay with making less money. Money doesn't measure what you bring to the table.
AUH2O: I know that people say it to be funny, but I never liked that Mr. Mom crack. In fact, in my opinion you are embodying the very definition of what it means to be a dad: you are putting your families needs ahead of your wants and meeting thsoe needs by doing what you have to do. A real father does what needs to be done, by working oustide the home or in it.
Quiche and fruit sounds fine with me, IDELLE. I love bed and breakfasts. Great experience. There's a great one in Charlottesville that you should try if you're ever there--The Inn at Monticello. Great food.
For some reason, I don't have the same problems in b&bs that I do with hotels. I have to really psych myself into staying in a hotel, and even then I have to bring my own bedding and pillow. My poor wife--it can be an ordeal. Sometimes I will walk in and out of several before I find one I can stomach. I haven't stayed in one in years and don't know if I even could now. Maybe if I take a few extra pills (ha!).
Well, I gotta run but will stop back later. Today we take Chad to meet his teacher. WE brought home his "bucket" last night and he can't wait to see his classroom.

Idelle, I think we all have some kind of OCD-like behavior, whether we realize it or not. My sister, who is perfectly normal woman, has to shut every door from the wrong side...when she is leaving and has to shut a door, she reaches around to the other side, pulls the door to her as far as she can and then finishes shutting it on the side closest to her...go figure, just something she has to do. I have a couple of those things, too, but they usually have to do with speaking...I have to say something more than once until it, "feels right", strange, I know.

Basically, we're winding me back to managable.

Dixie, are you sure your blind date knows you just want to be friends? It might be hard later if you don't tell him how you feel...Glad to hear that your mom is doing well!
Thanks for mentioning Vicks, MDC, you reminded me that when the house smelled like dead rat, I tried putting some under my nose to counteract the smell and it really helped. So, that is something else Vicks is good for! Hey, I had not thought about the side effects of the meds causing a problem, could be.
Mavis, I don't do sports so I have to teams that I support (except the basketball teams at my kid's school).
I will be out of town for the next couple of days, just to let you all know. Please pray for our safety and that the kids will do well with my sister and her husband. Thanks!

Howdy, all. Asa, what car chase? If it happened in Irving, it couldn't have been too far from me, because we're not that big, but I didn't know about it. Of course, I don't watch the news much, and I'm usually about a day behind on the newspapers, so I could have missed it.
I'm not much of a sports fan, unless it's my grandson's Tee-ball games. There was a time when I considered myself an avid Cowboys fan, back in the days of Roger Staubach and a few other stalwart gentlemen. We hosted game-watch parties and everything. Then the J-birds (Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson) descended upon us, treated our beloved Tom Landry so shabbily, and totally alienated many thousands of the fans. Most discovered, as did I, that we weren't really Cowboys fans, we were Tom Landry fans, and with him gone, there wasn't much left to applaud. The personal behavior of the players started to deteriorate almost immediately without Tom's sterling influence, and then Jones embarrassed himself completely by referring to the cheerleaders as "my girls", and Texas Stadium as "my stadium". He couldn't imagine why people didn't like him, so to try to remedy that, he hired a New York PR firm to help him polish his image with us Texans. The ignorance of the man is exceeded only by his ego. I haven't watched a Cowboy game in years, and couldn't possibly care less whether they win or lose. I live less than a mile from the stadium, and wouldn't attend a game if they mailed me a ticket. (Are you sorry you brought the subject up?)

Hello everyone.
To Me-They Msg 44937, since you mentioned televisions in grocery carts, there is a gas station in Windsor Ontario Canada that has televisions installed at every gas pump island. However, they don't broadcast regular programming. They only show commercials for products they sell such as gas specials, car washes, food specials, oil, antifreeze, etc.
To Dixie Msg 44938, glad to hear your mom pulled through surgery. Prayers for her recovery. And as for your blind date problem, have you told him how you feel about him? By accepting his daily attention is probably giving him the wrong impression. Please make your intentions clear to him as soon as possible.
To Mavis Msg 44943, I don't follow any professional sports.

Hey Poor Horatio, a gas station around here has tv's at the pump too. They show CNN on them. First time I ever went in there I could here someone talking to me and dad gum it took me a while to figure out what it was. Small little screen right in the dispenser. Now if they would just show Fox News...
Prayers for your SIL Homemaker, and for Boo to have a safe trip. Come back safe.
That car chase was a big deal Ro. Made all the national news outlets yesterday. I don't remember if they said it went through Irving or ended there. Seemed like it ended there though. The dude crashed into a gas station or a truck parked at one or something like that. Took a lot of police to get him down. He was a big boy and putting up a good fight. In fact I think I heard he had shot at the police sometime during the chase.
I agree with you about the J birds. Never liked Jones and detest Johnson.
Mavis, you don't know who my team is? Yes you do.
I know a lady who won't sip on a straw that has stripes on it. Is that count as a quirk?

September 01, 2006 - Msg 44957:
Hey, Asa. Once again, I'm amazed at the workings of the news media. Years ago, during the "gasoline shortage" (contrived or not, take your choice), my mother-in-law called us from Michigan, all concerned that we were unable to function down here with no gasoline. We were fine! She told us of seeing newscasts with film of lines two blocks long, people waiting to buy gasoline, which was supposedly rationed in Texas. Ha! We were asked to limit purchases to ten gallons, but the lines were at stations who were selling it at regular prices. They also ran pictures of signs with sky-high prices displayed, but no one was buying gas there. That part wasn't mentioned. There were a lot of stations that sold at about a dime more a gallon than the ones with the long lines, and my husband would buy there, reasoning that he wasn't losing any more than he would have lost with the engine idling for an hour in the lines.
Anyway, that leads me to the news report about the car chase. In this case, it was indeed a pretty spectacular chase, evidently. I finally found the account on page 9, section B, in today's paper. No pictures, and just two 8" columns. Apparently the man was mentally deranged, a family member called police and asked for help, and the man ran when the police tried to pull him over. He led them on a very circuitous chase through most of the closely-packed little towns between Dallas and Ft. Worth, including Irving. He tried to run over an Irving officer, and a Grapevine officer shot at the car, smashing the rear window and hitting the man in the arm. Finally, in Roanoke (a spot in the road, 2 traffic lights) he rammed his car into a beer truck and that finally stopped him. It did take several officers and some fancy footwork to bring him down, but they did, and he was hospitalized for the gunshot wound and evaluation of his mental condition.
My point is that it's strange how something like this makes serious national news, and it was such a tiny article in the local paper that I skimmed over it, didn't even read it until you asked about it. I didn't remember seeing it, and had to hunt for it. Besides, in this metroplex, one more nutty driver ramming his vehicle into another one is not exactly considered newsworthy! Well, anyway, thanks for calling it to my attention. It was an interesting story, once I located it and read it.

Mornin' all - Happy September! Hard to believe we're 2/3 of the way through 2006.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes last week, everyone.
After work today, my hubby is heading to Kansas to pick up my MIL and niece to visit for the weekend. Don't have any big plans - just enjoy the company and the weather. Weatherman says no temps over 84° for the next week. I do believe fall is making it's appearance.
Reagan is doing well - she's starting to try and jabber at us a little. It's adorable. Evie is also doing well, although she had to stay home from school today with a fever (and was heartbroken about it).
Good to see Dixie, Mrs Wiley, kygirl and all!
Have a good weekend everyone! Prayers for all.

Good morning everyone! Cool temps and rain here. A welcome change from the hot, dry weather.
Great to hear from you, AFD. Glad to hear the kids are doing well. Veda also is starting to jabber and really try to explore her surroundings. I hope Evie is feeling better.
Great to hear from you, too, DIXIE. Guess you are "suffering the little children," huh? Well, on behalf of all us parents, thanks! Sounds like you need to lay it on the table for your friend. Some people can't take subtle hints (think Barney Fife). If you already have and he still won't give up, and you want to maintain teh friendship, just hold the line and don't give him anything he can misinterpret as a "go" signal. Us guys are a lot like dogs: we'll stay at the bottom of the tree barking at that squirrel and really kick up a fuss, but eventually we get bored and start nosing around somewhere else. You just stay up in that tree. I'm glad to hear that your mom is doing okay. Prayers for y'all.
Where's MILLIE? I'm kinda worried about her.
Prayers for BOO's safe travels and all the rest of y'all.

I'm not working today, for some strange reason, no one wants to get their dogs groomed when it's raining. Wonder what causes that? I'm going to enjoy the day with my 4-legged children, watching the Goldfinches & sparrows fight over the food in the feeders. Little boogers are pigs, there are 8 feeders out there, full of food & they all want the same spot. Makes it fun to watch tho. I'll check back with you folks in a bit.
