August 03, 2006 - Msg 43685: Oops, forgot something, Poor Horatio if you are out there, maybe you can help me find some info that I need. I am planning a family meeting to make some decision concerning the care of my parents. I have heard that their assets need to be put in a trust in order to be able to receive their medicare benefits if they care in a nursing home or assisted living, etc. We have made no plans where my parents are concerned (although I have tried) but finally my sister is ready to deal with it. When our house is finished and I move out, we need to have a plan for my folks but I have to find out what is available to them, etc. I guess I will need to find a lawyer but I don't know who I should talk to. I don't want to burden at all but I thought you might have some advice to share (any of you). Sometimes I feel really alone in this, like I am the one everyone is depending on to make decisions but I have no experience in this. Thanks for your support.

August 03, 2006 - Msg 43688: Good morning everyone! Another hot one, but they are forecasting relief here on Friday. The temperature is expected to be 100 degrees today with a heat index of 112 degrees, but after a cool front moves through the weekend is supposed to dryer with highs in the mid-80s. Much better.

BOO: Glad to hear that Sean has been doing better lately. I’m sure it’s a roller coaster ride. You have a thought there about the eating being a manifestation of the OCD. Check with your counselor about it. If it is the OCD, it may be possible to transfer that compulsion on to something else. Has this always been a problem for him or is it a relatively new phenomenon? Anyway, your family is in my prayers.

Regarding prophesy and what’s going on now in the Middle East, while I believe that we should be attentive to what’s going on, it is dangerous to start putting too much stock in absolute interpretations. Remember all the doubletalk about Y2K that came from some Christian leaders who offered lots of Biblical interpretations that supported that this was “it?” Throughout history there have been those who take a germ of truth and stretch it to extremes. There have been respected Christian ministers throughout our history who have predicted that the end was nigh—and it wasn’t. When I was a kid I remember a minister we had interpreting the “bear from the north” in Revelation as being the USSR, and at the time it made perfect sense. Of course, now we know how that scenario didn’t exactly play out. The Bible is very clear on what it expects of us. I don’t believe that God has put information in the Bible only understandable or accessible by a few (don’t even get me started about so-called Bible codes); my God isn’t tricky.

There are several different views of “end time” prophesy that all have their supporters in the Christian community. It's always a shame when interpretation of prophesy divides us. I think it’s less important to try to pin down prophesy than it is to concentrate on always being ready.

Are these happening in the Middle East fulfillment of prophesy or just more of same? Who knows. But it is sad that so many are dying, especially those on both sides who don’t know Christ.

Well, I used up all my time shouting from the soapbox. I’ll stop back later to chat.

August 03, 2006 - Msg 43690: Oh, BOO, I did want to mention that they have all but completely phased out LPNs around here. Hospitals employ "techs" instead, and pays them less. And of course, because they don't do everything that an LPN can, it means the RNs have an added workload. They've even started using techs instead of RNs in operating rooms at some hospitals. The only RN involved is one stationed oustide the sterile area. Not only is this a problem with regard to expertise, but techs are employs of the hospital who don't have the same inherent oath or responsibility to the patient to be their advocate. Don't get me wrong, I know there are some darn great techs, but it's just not the same as having a nurse.

Things are going just great on our project. If there's still anyone who doesn't know what we're doing, and is interested, email me and I'll tell you. All I can say is - you people are the cats!

The drain cleaner man just left, my drains are now open once again. Whole house was blocked as of yesterday afternoon. No flushes, no shower, no laundry, Eeewww! I called the man, he dug out some tree roots from the main drain, and all is well once again. All that for $79. A bargain, if you ask me.

Im going to have to dig into some of the archive's here...

auh2o, Im glad to hear that your a "Dick Van Dyke Show" fan! I like Rob's father on it! He crack's me up! I really enjoy the combo of Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke to! I can't wait until I get into the later season's, which are supposed to be even better!

Boo, Glad to hear Sean's doing better!

Me-They, 112? Man, that's insane! You guy's must be used be used to it though!

Romeena, Have fun with the family! You guy's must be a very tight family. You visit alot!

TV Show reccomendation to all porchsters : I think a TV Show everyone would enjoy here on the porch is "Northern Exposure". It's great fun! It's about a Doctor from New York, Joel Fleishman, who is offerd a 5 year contract to work in a small town in Alaska, called Cisily. They exaggerate the town to make it sound great, and he sign's the contract. When He arrive's, he is shocked by how small and primative the town is. Dous it sound bland? I thought so at first to, but once you get into, you will grow to love every charecter. In a way it's simular to The Andy Griffith Show, in that it's a small, freindly town where everyone know's each other. The show is from 1990 and went to 1995. To me this was the last good TV show out there. It dous have mild bad luanguge in the show, and there are a few mention's of S*x, but there is no Violence, and there is no Real bad word's. Check it out, I think you'd all love it.

See ya later porch!

August 03, 2006 - Msg 43695: Here's a better description for "Northern Exposure" I stole from Amazon.Com :

Joel Fleishman is fresh out of medical college, and fresh out of luck. Failing to read the fine print in his scholarship conditions, he finds he has no choice but to move to the remote and somewhat eccentric town of Cicely, in the wilds of Alaska. Once there, he is welcomed by the peculiar locals who are not keen to see him go, most especially Maurice Minnifield, the ex-NASA astronaut. Despite Joel's adamant denials, one gets the impression that he enjoys life in Cicely more than he admits.

DWF: That's the point; we're not used to it here in Maryland. It can get hot in the summer here, and it tends to be very humid this time of year, but the heat index (temperature adjusted with the humidity to determine what it "feels like") is about 15 degrees above normal. Thankfully, they are predicting typical early August weather for this weekend.

"Northern Exposure" was a good show. I haven't seen it on cable for a few years (A&E used to show it during the day), but it's on DVD now. Each season comes wrapped in a little parka.

1 Thessalonians 5

1 I really don't need to write to you about how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters. 2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. (New Living Translation)

When I was in college I had a professor who would attempt to put down or belittle Christians by demonstrating how "current events" in the Middle East did not jibe with Bible prophesy. Boy, I sat on my hands instead of speaking up. That was about 25 years ago and I still feel bad about not saying anything.

However, those who believe are not of the night but are children of the day and light.

To Boo Msg 43684, I don't know what to make of it either. But according to prophecy, before the world ends, the anti-Christ is supposed to make an appearance. And then peace will overcome the entire world. I don't see that happening soon.

Yeah, there definitely is a nursing shortage. In some ways, it's great (my wife's salary keeps going up), but in others it's not (so does her workload). One thing is for sure, at least around here, is that if you are a nurse you won't have to look far for a job. August 04, 2006 - Msg 43727: Mornin' Porch,
I need some prayer today. Yesterday was my most stressing yet with my stepkids. I woke up early to take Michaela to horse back riding camp. We got caught in traffic and she was spazzing. After she got there everything was fine while I went and got school supplies for all 3 ($200!). I went to hubby's office to pick up Nicholas and Bryson. I had them called over the intercom to be in hubby's office. Neither of them were. I had to walk around a 10k sq. ft. office for them. Consequently we were late to get Michaela. I had to go to the bank & Nicholas complained. Hubby mentioned to me that we could go with him to Disney World next weekend (he has a conference there), but all stepkids would start school 2 days late. That upset Michaela and then Nicholas said its because of his Mom and if his Mom asked Michaela to put a 9 mm to his Dad's head she would. Well, that upset Bryson. Next thing I know they are all crying in Kohl's trying to get shoes. Once that stops there is a tooting contest both inside Kohl's and the car! I was humiliated. I told them to stop and they laughed at me. Then, Michaela was conspiring with her Mom not to let them go to Disney. I dropped them off at Bryan's office, came home, and cried while eating ice cream and watching TAGS. I have all 3 today and within 5 minutes of hubby leaving they were fighting. I have to take them to the library and farmer's market today. Please pray that I can handle them and pray for their hearts.
By the way, I LOVE Northern Exposure. Its out on DVD if you're interested. I may try to purchase a season or two.
Boo- Good Luck with your sister.
Millie- I love your site. Hubby's going to be in Richmond in Sept. If I can come with him we'll stop by.
Mavis- Have a nice day at work.
Me-They- If we're all right with God, then to me it doesn't matter if the end of the world is coming. I have got to read more of Revelations about all of this.
Possum- I'm glad that you are doing better. Gotta keep that ticker tickin'!
I know that there are others I should mention, but I need to get a shower and get out the door. Y'all have a wonderful day!

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43738: Thanks to all the people who posted those kind comments about me helping out with your questions. Internet research is a passion with me.

To Millie, I have examined your web site and have some constructive suggestions to offer you. I hoped I could catch you over at Sarah's last night to explain them to you. I was in Sarah's around 9:15pm eastern all alone and signed in as Guest. Unfortunately, I got bored waiting so I opened another window and started doing some research. That's when you popped in. You asked if anyone was here, and when you got no response from Guest, you left. Sorry I did not see you until after you had left. I wish there was an audio sound that activates when someone arrives. We can try to arrange another chat session or I can post the suggestions here. What do you prefer?

To TOM Msg 43728, when I return soon to the US, you will be receiving a big shipment of gum from me. Can you use bubble gum wrappers? I ask since bubble gum is usually wrapped in a wax paper rather than in paper and foil like other gum.

Im sorry to ask, but I just want to clear it up so I know for sure. I didn't wanna say anything last night, but after reading the last post by Poor Horatio, it seem's like everyone was a little mixed up.

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43741: Ok ya'll I need some help, I just tried to get into Sarah's chatroom, and kept getting a message saying class conference not found.. any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? August 04, 2006 - Msg 43742: Good afternoon all.

LUCY, you certainly have your hands full. I'm gonna bump you up on my prayer list. Don't get discouraged. And remember that someone is usually hanging around the porch if you need some support.

HOMEMAKER: When you are gonna have time to sit down on this here porch and have a good chat? Don't work yourself into a frazzle now.

Hey to HORATIO, DWF, COLT, TOM, SPOT, SALTY, and the rest of you folks.

Me-They

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43743: Afternoon Porchters. Friday afternoon at that.

Hey Colt, in regards to the Filling Station web site you were asking about in message 43737, I believe Floyd made it off limits as a link from any of his web sites because there were interlopers in there posting bad stuff. He does not run that board so he couldn't clean it up, but did not want to affiliate with it so dropped it as a link. At least that's what I think happened.

I just need to say this now
Warren and Barn wannabe, when you guys first came on here to the porch there seemed to be a lot of problems. I thought at first you were trouble makers and playing games with us all. But as you both have become familiar with how the porch works, you have become fun to have around and have made me rethink. I am sorry if I came across mean to you during those early times, but I really did think you were interlopers that was playing games with us. As of late though you have settled right in and become one of us. Thank you for your efforts in that regard.

Poor Horatio, allow me to also heap praises on you research efforts. You do a great job in that.

Salty Dog, you got any of them Asalty Dog 2001's sittin around? I could use one.:)

Homemaker, are you doing better? Hope things worked out ok for you.

Well best get back to work. Got to be good and hungry for Spots dinner.

Asa

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43744: Afternoon porchesters. Hope all is well. Just returned from watching my sons football scrimmage
so I thought I would sit down and cool off for a minute or two. SPOT, I have the slaw ready. How about I bring strawberry shortcake for dessert?
Looking forward to the ribeyes! See you at supper. Big Maude

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43745: Poor Horatio, thanks for offering constructive criticism on my new site. If you're available tonight, I'll go over to sarah's at 9pm est.....if you can't make it, just tell me when you do have time. You're a peach.

Lucy, good to hear from you! We been missin' ya, girl!

Asa, I'd like to second what you said about BWB and DWF. They are a welcome addition to the porch. I'm glad they stayed through the 'moulage'.

Oops! Kids are screaming.....back in a few with that recipe for DWF......

Millie

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43746: Warren, my site is at www.bogartsincorporated.com.
Millie

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43747: MILLIE: My biggest problem with your website is that you don't tell us where to click for free samples.

ASA: As much as it pains me to do so, I agree with you. I do have a question for both DWF and BWB, if it's not too personal; how old are you? Just curious.

M-T

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43748: Me-They, I hope you don't have a grudge agenst me. I am only in my early 20's. Thank you for the kind word's Asa and Millie. I guess at first when I got here, I was i-mature and overly sensitive. Im trying my best to fit in.

Deputy Warren Ferguson

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43749: DWF: No, of course I don't have a grudge against you. Frankly, I'm old enough not to have the energy to hold a grudge for very long even if I wanted to. And and I have no reason to want to. You're a-okay with me. I was just curious about your age because I really had no idea.

Me-They
"Sensitive? Who said I'm sensitive?"

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43750: Warren, I've said it before, I'll say it again. You have fit in very well, and I like you. Like M-T said, you're A-okay with me.
Here's that recipe you asked for:

Banana Cream Pie

1 box of instant banana cream or vanilla pudding
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sour cream
8 oz Cool Whip or other non-dairy whipped topping
1 large banana
1 graham or chocolate graham pie crust

Mix pudding and milk with a hand mixer for 2 minutes. Add sour cream and mix another minute. Add Cool Whip and mix until thouroughly blended(about 2 or 3 minutes). Put half of this mixture in pie crust. Slice banana into quarter-sized pieces, and place in a single layer over pudding. Spread the rest of the pudding over the bananas, and chill for 2 hours.

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43751: Well, y'all have a great weekend. I'm off to the Y over at Mt. Pilot. Yep, gonna get me a corner room. They have a great breakfast special from 5 to 6 a.m.

Take care. See you Monday.

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43752: asa-thanks for thr info. ifnow i hope floyd gets a chanve yo answer my second question, he's great about that. sounds like we'll fill up at spot's tonight. big maude- to go with that strawberry short cake i'll bring a refridgerated rental truck full og tubs of cool- whip. i feel an old fashion spot party tonight. after we eat our fill, we can have a cool whip throwing party and head for meyers lake to rinse off . DWF AND BWB- your both gret additions to this site and remember that since we range in different ages and backgrounds there will be posts you don't agree with but none are mean spirited just like mayberry had a diverse groupof people who loved each other- we do the same here. usualy most of us answer posts that we have somrthing to say and acknowlege the restof the porch. hope this makes sense. soap box built and imploded. see you at spots. colt

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43753: Millie, Thank's for that Recipie! So by a Box of Pudding, do you mean four pudding's? Like the mini crate's you buy at the grocery store?

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43755: Evenin' Porch,
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We went to a friends house today so I had a few hours with the kids in their pool.
DWF- If I get the dvd's I will take your season suggestion.
Millie- That pie sounds delicious. I don't make too many desserts because they don't last in my house, but I may try that one.
Spot- I'm a vegetarian, but the rest of my clan would love a steak!
Asa- I think your apology was really sweet. Good job!
Dixie- Did you find a job?
Me-They- You have a good weekend yourself. Is Veda sleeping well?
Boo- How are you today?
Colt- Still getting used to that name. Do you build many model trains?
MDC- I heard they have the Phoenix murderers in custody. Do you think it'll stick?
We're gonna watch Cheaper by the Dozen 2 in a bit so I'd better get the house ready. I try to have all of my clothes washed and ready to fold while watching the movie. Idle hands and all that. Y'all take care!
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy

August 04, 2006 - Msg 43757: To Deputy Warren Fergusen Msg 43740, I scheduled chat sessions for Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9pm eastern, 8pm central, 7pm mountain and 6pm pacific times. Whenever I can make it, I'm usually there within the first 15 minutes. I start out by visiting Sarah's first. Then depending on how the session is progressing, I will also check in at Frappr as well. As I posted once before, I'm not much of a chat person. I'm doing this to help prevent chatting here on The Front Porch. Also, if anyone asks to chat with me on any other day or time, I will try to accommodate them.
To SaltyDog Msg 43741, click here to go to Java's test site. Then click on VERIFY INSTALLATION (under the word DOWNLOAD). Then click on the red and white VERIFY INSTALLATION. If it indicates you don't have Java installed, then follow the installation instructions. If you do have Java installed, then provide me with more information. Include what kind of PC and browser you are using, and tell me what links you click on to get to Sarah's.
Thank you to Asa Msg 43743.
To Millie Msg 43745, I will try my best to make it over to Sarah's tonight at 9pm eastern.
And a Hey and howdy to everyone else here.

Hello porch family...we finally got a little rain today here in SC. But the temp was still HOT! Dang hot!

Lucy...I'm praying for you even as I write this.

Millie...Great site. Hopefully I can stop in one day when I pass through that area. Also Mrs. Rev copied the pie recipe so maybe I'll get to try it soon.

Ro...you should be getting something real soon in the mail.

Spot...wow man...that was a great supper. Were those lobster tails left over from my Maine trip?

Maude...that slaw set the supper off just right. And that shortcake put the finishing touch on it all.

Well I think I better go to bed after eating all that. You all have a great night and remember that Jesus is our everything!

We'll have to nickname DWF and BWB Brett and Bart! Western folks will know!
Lucy and all, they did make two arrests, but I'm still not sure they got the real culprits. Will have to see.
Prayers for everyone tonight. Keep my nephews and all troops in your prayers.
