To Deputy Warren Msg 42089, I made the fancy signature in my Msg 42085 by using HTML programming. If you know nothing about this, search the internet for tutorials. Then, using the font color and table functions, you can create a signature similar to mine. But be careful. You must test your programming before posting it here. Otherwise, you can cause problems on The Front Porch. Download a free program like AceHTML to create and test your HTML programming BEFORE posting here.
To Deputy Warren Msg 42090, I remember a Peggy McMillan. Wasn't she from a rich family? She made a valiant attempt to fit in. Why Andy let her get away is beyond me.

July 05, 2006 - Msg 42112:
Good morning everyone! I trust you all had a nice Independence Day and exercised your liberty at eating as many hot dogs and hamburgers as you like. Thanks to all those who have given of themselves for all the rest of us.
HORATIO: With ROMEENA gone, it looks like you are filling in nicely as the cool voice of reason. By teh way, I was wondering; are you a U.S. or Canadian citizen? Just curious. And I think you can do those fancy things with your signature because you use bigger wires.
DWF: Sorry, but I have to disagree; Nurse Mary #2 was the one that got away, in my opinion. And, yes, BOO, in "real life" she was married to Ryan O'Neal and teh mother of Tatum. Sadly, she has a bad drug and alcohol problem which sent her career (not to mention life) down the tubes. I'm not sure, and I'm not sure if it's ever been admitted, but that may have had something to do with why she didn't end up on TAGS after that one season. Andy Griffith has always said that he didn't have an chemistry with his "girlfriends" until Helen, but the chemistry between Andy and Peggy is obvious and Peggy did appear in a handful of episodes, so that's what leaves a doubt in my mind. Andy is a gentlemen, so we may never know.
Thanks for breakfast, SPOT!
BIG MAUDE: Again, just curious (I'm nosy today I suppose), but what do you for a living?
How's Sean doing, BOO? And how are thing's going with the kids, LUCY?
SPOT: It wasn't me!

Hey Folks,
Barnwannabe-I don't believe I ever said I was mad at you. To tell you the truth, and I'm sure I'm not alone here, but, I was not fooled from the start. I guess we all come here for different reasons. I get to spout off with my friends without someone rolling up a paper and smacking me on the head. You did what you did for reasons I don't know. I don't think any of us here have been "putting on air's." Me? I am a "Mr. Mom" (a stay at home dad) in the 80's it felt like I spent the entire decade in college (I didn't but it felt that way) so that is where I'm at. I love it couldn't imagine it any other way.

Can't wait to resume sitting out there to chat, strum my guitar, and say "Howdy" to people who pass by. Everyone is invited to the dedication and barbecue ceremony.

Safe trip and happy times, LUCY.
HORATIO: Everyone needs goals. Do they make you take a test with a whole lot of questions about hockey, tuques and the Queen? :)
When I was in college and considering a career in teaching, I briefly entertained the idea of moving to Ottawa to teach school there. I gave it up a few days later when I heard that teachers in Canada are required to be fluent in both English and French. I already had four years of Spanish behind me. Now I can speak just a little more Spanish than I can French. Canada sure is beautiful. Another question: On my two trips to Canada (years ago) I noticed that towns and cities are generally very tidy and clean, except in Quebec, in general, where they are more like American towns and cities (i.e. dirty). Why is that, in your opinion? Or is my observation off-base?

Really sad about Peggy, MDC. Thanks for asking about Sean, he is still asleep. We got in really late last night. I think he is doing better with the anxiety and we only have one wek left until he is off the Paxil.
Well, spending the 4th with the in-laws wasn't so bad. My sis-in-law did talk alot about her divorce but no fights broke out. I did have to get an earful from my mom-in-law about how her daughters treat her but that was about the worst of it. It sure was hot here yesterday, wow!
Well, lots to do today....going to go to the cable company today and see about getting that high speed internet service. Bye!

July 05, 2006 - Msg 42125:
Good afternoon, everyone! Just checking in from the Florida end of the porch. I don't have time to go back through the archives, though I'm sure I've missed a lot of good conversation. I'm having a perfectly wonderful time out here with my son and DIL. Their home is gorgeous, situated on a private lake, access limited to homeowners. It's a big lake, about 3/4 mile in diameter, round as a pancake, like most Florida lakes. Plenty of room for boats, seadoos and skiing. His dock is large and roomy, half covered and shady and half open for sunbathing, two seadoos at my disposal, comfortable chairs and a hammock for napping, and at the house a beautiful pool enclosed in a wire "poolcage", so no bugs. I'm sitting at my DIL's end of a wraparound desk in my son's office on the second floor of their home, with a stunning view of the lake beyond the "EPA" the protected strip of wetland that surrounds the lake for most of its shoreline. Everyone has a boardwalk from their back yard, across the wetland and extending to their dock. In my son's case, that's a distance of about a hundred yards. The wetland is home to ducks, turtles, and even at times a family of bobcats. There is a gator slide in the wetland near an unpopulated area across the lake, but we don't know if there's a gator in residence right now or not. We plan to take a pontoon boat out tonight with a Q-beam and see if we can find any eyeshine.
We dug out and cleared all the shrubbery from one of the bermed-up flowerbeds in the back yard yesterday, and planted new things that will attract butterflies. My DIL wanted a butterfly garden, and so we made one. Naturally, I was having a wonderful time. You know how I love to work in a garden. It's beautiful.
My son has a small floating barge alongside his permanent dock, which serves as a home for the canoe and his sailboat, or as overflow for dock space when there's a large crowd. Last night he used a Seadoo to tow it out into the lake, and set off an impressive display of fireworks from it. Not only are they beautiful over the water, but it's much safer that way as well. Lovely!
Well, time to rustle up some lunch. My son will be coming home in a few minutes, probably hungry as a buzzard. Lunch will be easy. My DIL always prepares much more food than will be eaten at dinner, and it makes great lunches later. I'll probably fry some round steak and some pork chops this weekend, and make about a gallon of pan gravy, and my son will eat the leftovers next week, even after I've gone home. I'll be leaving next Monday.
Until I return, my dear friends, keep my rocker dusted off. Sugarplum, who is enjoying our trip immensely, says 10-4. --Romeena

Yeah, same here Boo about it not being bad spending the 4th with the in-laws, particularily since for me, I didn't spend much time with them. I did go with them last night to watch the fireworks. It was pretty neat. Even saw some different fireworks, like ones that made the shape of stars and hearts in the sky. I wonder how they pack those to go off that way?.
Well, the house is finally going to be inspected Friday, so wish me luck. I'm getting the furnace checked tomorrow just to keep things looking good and one less possible thing that the new owner might have a problem with.

Hey, just dropped in to say goodnight, really. Hope you are all doing well this evening.
SPOT, I thought about you today. We had some MAJOR thunderstorms and flooding in my area and were without power for about 3 hours. It was so hot and humid! Couldn't help but think that if you had been on the job here, it wouldn't have taken so long.
It's been a long day and my eyes are feeling heavy. Think I will turn in. Goodnight Mayberry,

Me-They, I'm confused. We've had this best girlfriend question batted around many times. I, also, choose Miss Peggy as I know Asa does (where is he--out on the links?). But I did also like Mary the Pizza Pie nurse from Three's a Crowd. Who then is the other Mary who was played by Tatum O'neal's mother (Joanna Moore is her mother)? Refresh my memory. The only other nurse I can recall just now is the dark-haired one they took out to give Rafe his shot. She was on Murder She Wrote in later years. Help me out here. Hey, TOM, good to see you there, buddy! Couldn't you see any fireworks from your house? That's what we do if we can't go anywhere--just watch fireworks from our yard. Although last night our county seat had a spec-tacular dis-play!

Hello porch family.
I'll be leaving Tn. in the morning for Maine. Not sure when I'll get back on to sit on the porch. Hopefully I'll be able to get service.
Millie...lunch tommorow sounds great.
Spot...maybe we need some more good ole wood sheds.

Sounds like Romeena is having a terrific vacation!...watch out for those gators!!
We are doing ok, SPOT. Still lots to do on the house. I will have to send some pics of the land, anyway...no house to send pictures of yet.
Charlotte, it wasn't Mary who was Tatum's mom, it was Peggy. Peggy was married to Ryan Oneal and they had Tatum.
Prayers for you REV as you go to Maine.
Hey Millie, hope you are having a good night making lemon tarts.

Morning Porch,
Romeena-It does sound like a good time. Like I've said a few dozen times, you sure do paint a picture. We had a bobcat go through a few years ago; they do seem to make ay catch your breath. As for the gator, good luck with that, yikes. Us Yankees don't know much about no gators.
Me-They- Your book learning is quite evident. I do enjoy your posts. My seven year plan also had a "pay as you go" feature.
MDC-I'm sure you got the "there you go again" Reagan reference but I'm not sure what happened when I posted. I think I zigged when I sould've zagged.
Millie-Did you say something about steak and fries? Yummy.
Tom-as always, your poem shines a light.
Rev-Safe travels.
BW-Things couldn't be better, thanks for asking.
God Bless,
auh2o

Morning Dears...Morning Honeys.
auh2o, I got your quote. I loved that man.
Here's a penney for your trip Rev. Be safe.
That sounds like a great lunch Millie.
Thanks for a great breakfast Spot.
Nice poem Tom.
I'm worried about our homemaker. She was asking for prayers and she hasn't been back since. Homemaker, please let me know if you're ok.
Boo, you were asking about trees and horses. What I have found happens a lot of times is horses will start nibbling on the bark of the tree's and that will usually kill the tree's. It may depend on the horse or the type of tree but the two don't usually seem to be a compatabile mix. I would also be concerned that the tree bark is not bad for the horse. I imagine a good vet could help you more than I.
Mavis, belated birthday wishes for Jake. Is he really 18? Mercy sakes, time is just moving right along.
My Barney is going to the vet this morning for teeth cleaning. They have to put him out to do this. Our vet is really big on cannine dental hygiene. I agree with that. So maybe you could say a little prayer for him. Thanks.
Asa

Morning Porch! Just wanted to stop by & say Hey to my porch pals before I headed out to work (isn't that a 4-letter word?? Wonder why the censor don't get it?) Asa good thoughts for Barney, sedation IS scary, but they do need those teeth cleaned, esp. Dachshunds. and yes Jake really IS 18, seems like just yesterday he was a little bitty boy & now as you can see from the pix on Ro's page, he's ALOT bigger than me now. Best get to work. Hey to all ya'll (that's plural where I come from) & act like somebody. See ya'll this evening.

July 06, 2006 - Msg 42238:
Prayers for little Barney, ASA. I was just looking at his picture last night on Ro's site, with that huge rawhide thing. So funny! I think Weinie dogs are the cutest. Is he still addicted to the rubber hamburger? The weinie dog (Mindy)we had when we moved in with my folks now BELONGS to my dad. She adores him (and he spoils her rotten). She spends most of her time in his recliner, under a blanket and he feeds her everyday because he doesn't want to give her dog food, but people food. She is so fat her head looks like the head of a pin! He even goes outside with her when she goes to the bathroom because, "She doesn't like to go out alone". It is the funniest thing. She is a strange dog, though. She doesn't play, ever, never did.
My little one has a bad cold and needs some TLC so I had better go. It is STILL raining here after a week of it.
Boo
