Hey to the Porch, and happy fathers day to all!
Today is the first year I'm without my dad...and since he'd been gone in many ways the last few...I didn't think it would be quite as hard...but it was. It really hit me yesterday when I heard a song by Ivan Parker called "It's True", all about his dad and the last 2 words he said...it talks about hearing the sounds of angels and see the Father coming to get him...makes me wonder what the last things my dad saw and heard were. He'd been out of it so long, I want to beleive he had an instantaneous moment of clarity...and could hear those heavenly sounds. I hope his daddy was able to meet him...my dad spent the last few months when he could talk and get around talking to him...would tell us he saw him in the room and had a good talk.
Yep...I miss him, but I'm so glad that he's in a place where there's no pain, no sorrow, and no alzheimers. I love you pop!

Hey guys, I don't usually watch the local news around here, but I happened to pass by one channel and heard about something that may interest everyone here.
First of all I have a question, did anyone here who lives in Wisconsin meet your husband/wife here on the porch or at Miss Crumps? I ask this because they had a story on the news about a couple who made a replica of Andy Taylor's house and made it into an Inn, and they said they met on a TAGS website. It's called the Taylor Home Inn and it's right here in my neck of the woods(or maybe a little further, but it is right here in my state and I never even knew about it. If you want to look it over you can do so here.
I don't know exactly where Clearlake is, but they said they are about 2 1/2 hours away from The Mall Of America in MN, so maybe if it is somewhere near the same route we take when we go there I'll be able to convince my wife to stay there for a night. Pretty neat!
Well, I am going to hit the hay, as they say.;)

Irishter!! Mercy, it's good to see you! I understand about not using ministry resources for personal things, but a visit to the Porch now and then would do you good, and make you more relaxed and able to do your job better, don't you think? Well, it sounds good, anyway. How lovely to live in that beautiful country. My son and his wife have vacationed there on two occasions, and they just love it. DIL says it's the most beautiful place she's ever seen.
Goober, old friend! I thought about you yesterday. It was a tough day for me, too. My dad has been gone three years now, but he passed away on Father's Day in 2003. You may remember that he, too, had Alzheimer's, so I know what you mean about him being "gone" long before he actually passed. You have to give them up by inches when they have that terrible disease.
As for a moment of clarity at the end, I think you can probably rest assured that he did have it. My dad certainly did. On Wednesday before he died, he came out of what had essentially been a coma, sat up and talked with us, ate his lunch, made little jokes, recognized everyone, recalled details long forgotten, and we had about three hours of very precious interaction with him. Then he decided he was tired, lay back down and went to sleep, and that was it. He awoke briefly on Saturday, talked to my mother (who died in 1999), and on Sunday morning, in the wee hours of dawn, he went to be with her and the Lord. I would not call him back, even if I could, unless he could be about 40, driving his boat and pulling skiers, and loving life. To come back as he was the last few years of his life - never. So rejoice with me, Goob, because we're going to see them again, and they won't be like they were the last time we saw them here.
Well, I'm gone. Got a dental appointment - yuck. Then I have to work tonight and tomorrow night, and got to make some decisions regarding the rent house. Drat that renter, anyway!

Its a nice and muggy day here in Atlanta. Is it ever going to rain? Spot, is Cobb under water restrictions? We'll just have to pray that it rains soon. Maybe we can do a rain dance like they do in African tribes, ha!
Hello, Irishter- Nice to meet you. I joined the front porch in February.
Boo- How's your diet coming along? I'm going back on my fruits and veggies. I've gained at least 5 out of 26 I originally lost. I've been drinking Mt. Dew's again and eating meat which causes reflux, which irritates my esophagus. They're just so good! We need to encourage eachother to eat good foods, okay? Also, I remember you saying that you're a "real-size" woman. I just finished Delta's Style by Delta Burke and she has an affordable clothing line. I don't know where its sold, but it may be worth checking out. I'm not a "real-size" woman, but I think the styles in the book are adorable.
Millie- I'm so sorry sweetie that you have to get chemo again. Let us know if there's anything we can do. Your plate is full.
Romeena & Goober- I'm sorry for your losses. My grandfather died 8 years ago from alzheimers. Its a terrible disease. Sometimes I'd rather be hit by a bus than slowly lose my mind.
Hey to Tom, Homemaker, Asa, MD, Warren, Barnwannabee, Thelmalouwannabe, auh20, Floyd, Buckeye (are you okay?), Me-They, MDC, and Mavis, and everyone else on the Porch.
I sent Bryson to another VBS this week. There are 3 baptist churches within 20 minutes of our house, so he's gonna hit 'em all! Hey, its free childcare in a Christian atmosphere. And, he gets to make friends. Hubby's daughter is attending too so hopefully they'll be able to hang out.

Howdy, everyone. Homemaker, you're so right. A positive Christian influence in what passes for public schools these days is so valuable, and God will bless you for it. Irishter, I'd love to know more about what you're doing, and how you came to be in Ireland. I've always wanted to visit the Emerald Isle myself, but doubt that it will happen now.
Millie, I'm so sorry to hear that you're going to have to do the chemo thing again. I went through it in 1979, and it's rough. At one point, with about three months to go, I announced that I was through, not going to do it anymore. My husband said I most certainly was going to complete the course, if he had to physically carry me into the office and hold me down. Well, he was big enough to do it, so I decided I'd cooperate. So, here I am, 27 years later. I guess he was right. Yes, a lot of people were praying for me, and I know that was the key, but I still had to do my part. God doesn't jump through hoops for us, like a trained dog. We have our job to do, and He blesses our efforts. So, Millie, as you go and do your part (so difficult, I know) we will be praying for you, for strength, grace and success.

If you want to email me through our website, www.christ4kildare.org , Ro I am always happy to talk about this beautiful country.
I pastor a small Baptist Church - like most of Europe folks here today have very little time for God, but we do a lot of work with children.
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the Porch!

Millie, I like the Bonanza World site but It's VERY hard to log in and post! I really don't understand! Hey Barnwannabe!
Did everyone see my Post last night that Season 8 of TAGS is due on December 12th 2006? And also Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. is comeing out on December 12th 2006 also! I just thought everyone should know because let us not forget, this is an Andy Griffith Show Porch/Site!
No info on special feature's or anything, but I have a feeling Paramount might do something special for Season 8 since it's the final season to complete the series.

Well, quite honestly, Floyd, I've enjoyed your more frequent appearances here lately, and am hoping you'll continue. You run the place, for cryin' out loud! Why shouldn't you be a regular? I understand if it's a time issue, but if that's not it, then please visit regularly, don't just lurk in the shadows!
And now, I've got to get my white monkey suit on and head for the hospital and a 12-hour shift. Oh, to be independently wealthy! Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Hey Ro,
I enjoy visiting more often as well. The problem is..as soon as I get things settled down here...a fire starts somewheres else and I have to leave to take care of it.
It's all about balancing time between my "real" job, my wonderful UNDERSTANDING wife, my nine year old son, teaching tae kwon do a few nights a week, running Mayberry.com/TAGSRWC.com/WBMUTBB.com, running the daily e-mail news letter "WBMUTBB Digest," performing as "Floyd" at Mayberry events, and eating & sleeping.
Whew...I got tired just thinking about it.
I drop in as often as I can and I enjoy it always.

June 19, 2006 - Msg 39928:
Hey POssum, It is good to see you. wondered where you have been hiding. We haven't see Rev, Mavis, or Asa in a few days either. Hope they are all okay. Deputy Warren, "Chemo" is short for chemotherapy, and usually used in reference to medications used in the treatment of cancer. Romeena or some of the other fine nurses can probably tell you more details and specifics. Stay strong Millie. POssum, you be careful at the
Gigolo tonight. Wonder where Asa might be??? :)
Tom, it is good to see you. Hey to SPOT and Lucy too. take care Going over to O'Malleys for a while. :) Big Maude

Hey porch! Thank's Barnwannabe and Big Maude for telling me what chemo was!
I have a great recipe for tomatoe soup I would like to tell the porch! Just made it up for dinner!
You need Cambels tomatoe soup for start's. Once it's boiling, add Canadian Maple Syrup (or just any maple syrup, but I find Canadian the best), abit of Cheese-Wiz, Some Accent flavour enhancer, Black Pepper , a small dose of Milk and some cheese any kind desired.
Stir it up after. When it's ready you should have a great Tomatoe Soup!
Im no cook, but it dousn't take much to add that to good store baught soup!
Yeah the recipe sound's odd but the taste of the cooked Maple Syrup blending with the peppers and Tomatoe's and Cheeze Wiz giveing some Zest is just incredible!
That may have sounded odd, but it's true! TRY IT!

June 19, 2006 - Msg 39937:
Also, chemo is when drs pump in a lot of poisons through your veins, in a effort to kill the cancer cells(but it also kills the good).....so they bring you to the brink of death, giving you as much as you can take, then they bring you back, hopefully. There are many different chemo drugs and combinations of drugs, different ones for different cancers, etc. Anyway, bottom line is it's NO FUN. But, I did it before, and I'll do it again if I have to. It's just they said before that we'd save that until the cancer was all over(in multiple organs) and there were no other options. I thought they'd do another operation and remove the tumours next time, not chemotherapy.

We'll, you folks won't notice too many changes around here but I've added a LOT of things to try and make it a little better around.
I'm resisting the "password" option because it just don't seem Mayberry like.
I've added some other tracking options so I can try and go in and see who's doing what if I have to do so. In general...I never do that as I don't have time but it's there none the less.
I've added a scripted way of removing messages that must be removed rather than me having to do it manually.
I fixed the "Archives" so that they post use the message number of the "next" archive in the archive name. This will keep them from overwrighting in the event of more than one archive a day (like we had a few days back).
There's a few other things I've done but none of them are things y'all would notice or even care about.
Everything is Okay...in Mayberry.

Thus...The Back Porch. I won't be linking to it for folks to use since it's JUST LIKE this porch AND I may need to do more testing so it'll get messed up quick like.

Millie, I guess our bit of chitchast from Sat. afternoon is part of what got bumped. It's like being 10-4'd right in the middle of a call! HA!
Our Anniversary was grand in every way inquiring minds may want to know! ha But this IS the porch ya know! ha
We DID go to a movie last night which we dont do much of anymore, because of content, but we saw The Lake House, with Sandra Bullock. It was PG and pretty good. A romantic mystery, but not in the classic sense. More like Love Story meets Back to the Future! Interesting for both genders!
Three uses of s---, and that was it! Otherwise, very clean and unique.
BOO- that was a great story about your grandma.
Thanks for sharing.
Goober- prayers for you bro. God bless ya.
I heard from KYgirl. She is still having trouble with internet.
IRISHster! Good to see you again! You're a caution, like those Canadian sit-coms! haha (Warren, just a joke!)ha
Sterling, very interesting!!
Boo- not sure about Me-they, Quiet Sam, etc, and Buckeye too??
Ya all have a good evening.

Hey Porch
Floyd-I've been stopping by for almost 3 years now and I'd like to thank you for all that you are doing here. I really appreciate it, especially lately. Something seems askew here the last few days and I know you're trying to fix it. To me and this is only my opinion but I think we might be "being played" here. Something seems like that old "The Streets of San Francisco" episode when John Davidison played the killer with a split personality.
Romeena-I wish I could articulate things half as well as you do.
Lucy-I still get a chuckle about your Aunt Bea comment, "a little too Queen of England."
Thanks again Floyd,

You really shouldn't be so sensitive Barney..err..Warren. "Boy....if there's one thing I hate its being called sensitive."
You're in the pros now, Warren...you have to step up and swing at those quotes and try to get a hit.
There have been instances here, back in the day, when the entire conversation was carried on by quoting from The Andy Griffith Show. It's fun but it takes a lot of education on TAGS quoting.
