So do we all, 38651. Glad to have you drop in. If you're so inclined, we'd be happy to have you stay and rock and visit with us. Our discussions theoretically center on the show, but as you can tell from reading the archives, we cover a lot of ground. However, I think most of us feel that's okay, since that's probably what took place on the real "front porch", when good friends gathered.
As for choosing a favorite season, I don't think I could. I have favorite shows, of course, but they're sprinkled throughout the seasons, even a few in the color eps.
Tom, you're right. If you were to disappear, you can bet we'd send out a search party! Speaking of disappearing, where's Gizzmo?
Mavis, I'm at a loss for words regarding your situation. I just can't imagine. All that comes to mind is "shame on your sister!" I hope she knows that what goes around, comes around. She has dished it out to you, and trust me, she'll get hers one of these days.
Well, gotta get these two little boys into their jammies and bed. It may take some doing, they seem to be wound pretty tight tonight.

Now regarding favorite episodes, I think Season 1 is probably my favorite. Follow that with the black and white seasons in any order. And finally, way back at the end of the line are the seasons with the color episodes.

Boo - we charge $100 to breed to our bucks or give us the billies you don't want and then it is even. Bucks (billies) can give off an offensive smell, esp. during breeding season. Milk goat bucks smell all the time, boer (meat goat) bucks just at certain times. Right now, our billie is fine to be around, but in a couple of months - you want to be upwind from him.
Some folks charge a lot more plus doe care (feeding and bedding for the girls).

about The Andy Griffith Show and asking people's thought's on episode's and other stuff. But if that's not what go's on on the Front Porch , I guess that's fine with me. Oh and do you guy's name each other charecter's from The Andy Griffith Show? Just call me Kyle for now.

June 03, 2006 - Msg 38680:
Welcome Kyle. Glad you posted here. Since we simulate friends gathering on a front porch, we talk just about anything. And nearly all of us have adopted names of characters and other unique factors (my name was not a character) associated with The Andy Griffith Show.
However, you must use common sense with your postings and be considerate towards others. There is a censor filter that will screen your message before you can post it. And for those who don't follow these rules, Floyd will make an appearance and make your postings vanish.
Feel free to ask questions about specific episodes or anything associated with the show. And see if you can come up with a character name for yourself.
So pull up a chair, relax, get to know some of the people here through their postings, and post some yourself so we can get to know you.

June 03, 2006 - Msg 38681:
Kyle, I should have mentioned that it's ok to talk about other subjects that are not related to The Andy Griffith Show. Lately, people have been posting personal problems they are experiencing in real life. Nothing wrong with that. This is a good place to come to for advice and support.
from Poor Horatio
June 03, 2006 - Msg 38682:
Howdy, Kyle. We're pleased to have you join us. As for what we talk about, like I said earlier, in theory we discuss the show, but conversation does tend to wander, just as it would on a real porch. Most of us choose names taken from the show, but again there are exceptions, and you may call yourself whatever you like. We pick at each other and tease a lot, but the cardinal rule is it must be gentle and not hurtful. Occasionally, someone blows by and leaves a mess on the porch, or says mean things, and our dear Floyd is quick to bring his mop and disinfectant and take care of things. His email address is just below the "comments" box. We share our problems and joys, we pray for each other and cheer for each other, and just generally try to maintain a friendly, comfortable, welcoming place to go when we want to spend time with friends. If that sounds like your kind of place, then grab yourself a rocker and join us.

Yep, Kyle, I do agree. Warren was as annoying as a mosquito, but he was supposed to be! That was his character, and Jack Burns played it to the hilt. The more I watch those eps, the more I appreciate them. As irritating as Warren was, though, his heart was in the right place and he meant no harm.
Now as to whether we have a Warren or not, it seems to me that there was a Warren a long time ago, but he hasn't been here in ages. Unless somebody else sees it differently, I can't think of any reason why you couldn't adopt that name. Any objections, anyone?
Oh my goodness, is it ever hot here. It's only 87, but very still and humid. I've been out in the yard weeding and doing a little pond maintenance, and I thought I was going to melt. About an hour was all I could take. The green water is veerrry slowly clearing up. I was under the impression that it would take a couple of days, but now the pond people tell me it could take two weeks. So I pumped about 100 gallons out and replaced with fresh water, just to help it along a little. Can't do much of that, though, because of the chloramines in the fresh water. Wish it would rain!
Well, I think I'm going to see if I can find a nap around here somewhere. Yep, a cool shower, a glass of tea, and a nap. That's what I'm gonna do - have a cool shower, make a glass of tea and take a nap. Yep, that's the plan ....

Welcome to you KYLE. I think Warren would be a great choice. I thought Warren had a kind of sweet innocence about him that Barney didn't have. Like the episode in which he was sleep walking and was chasing Helen. He looked so genuinely sorry for something he didn't even know he had done.
That sounds like a great plan, Ro. It is really hot and humid here, too and I have been doing laundry out in the garage all day! Bruce put a big fan out there for me but it's still murder, especially when the dryer is going.

Favorite funny spot? Visual or dialog? For visuals, the cow thief scene just cracks me up every time. The way that cow was walking with those army boots on, and the music was just perfect - oh, my stars! Just hilarious! Of course, Barney produced some very funny visuals, but that goes without saying. The master himself, was Barney. The preamble scene, the lipstick scene, the puffed-up prideful lawman, you name it, it was funny. Barney's dress-up scenes - the bridal gown, the cleaning lady, the barbershop scene where he was trying to trap the gamblers, well, I could go on and on. Oh, I guess I did! (teehee) --Romeena

Exactillioso. The poor Horatio scene would have to be my favorite. Also loved the scene in the episode when Barney was jealous of Opie spending so much time with Thelma Lou and he calls her house and Opie anwers. I love when Opie is questioning Barney about the Duck Pond. Also at the end of that episode Barney and Andy are in the courthouse when Thelma Lou stops by. Barney is trying to make her jealous by pretending to be on the phone with another woman when the phone rings! That one kills me! And who can forget the scene when Barney comes on to Ellie Walker at the drug store? HA Oh, and when Barney is posing as a dummy in Weaver's department store and those 2 ladies look at Barney and say, "He looks just like Barney Fife, only the dummy is better looking"! And let's not forget the Lydia Crosswaith scene..."I hate the sun. When I go out into the sun I get the herpes". Now see what ya'll have done? You got me on a roll....I'll stop now and give someone else a chance.
Warren, I never met a Canadian I didn't like. Of course, down here in South Texas I don't find alot of them. I did work alot of years as a nurse and knew many Canadian nurses and they were wonderful.

Good morning, Mayor Buckeye, and anyone else on the porch this fine morning. Mary Grace Canfield played Thelma Lou's cousin, Mary Grace Gossage in the episode which I believe was titled "A Girl for Gomer." Gomer pronounced her "nice, real nice!" That dance scene in Thelma Lou's living room was just hilarious! As for her other role, she played Ralph Monroe on "Green Acres". She has always been one of my favorites, just seems like a very nice person, someone you'd like to meet and get to know.
Well, gotta run. Everybody come by after church this afternoon, and we'll make some peach ice cream. I've got a few pounds of really ripe, really sweet peaches. Buckeye, will you pick up a bag of crushed ice on your way here? Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena
June 04, 2006 - Msg 38733:
Sorry, that was "A Date for Gomer". Mary Grace was also Harriet Kravitz in several episodes of "Bewitched". She was Abner Kravitz's sister, filling the gap after Alice Pearce (Gladys Kravitz) passed away. There had to be a female character in the Kravitz household, to be nosy and torment Samantha. Does anyone else think that George Tobias was just wonderful as the long-suffering Abner? Sort of an unsung star. --Romeena

We got off the mountain yesterday morning and headed for the flatlands of Reading for the annual WWII airshow/reinactment i(D Day and all) . The pilot(Tibbets) and navigator(VanKirk) of the Enola Gay and many other well known hero's of the war were there including the Philadelphia chapter of the Tuskeegee Air Men. They have actors play FDR, wife Elanor and Gen. MacArthur. There are European and Pacific theater of operations, a French village and battle reinactments and (for you Spot) a lot of food stands. We had london broil, hot sausage, ice cream, pizza, sweet potatoe fries, chicken plus there was a lot of other foods we didn't have room to try.

Afternoon Porch family, Just back from church and sitting a spell. Trying to get back into things after vacation. What a peaceful week we had. The place we stayed had a back porch overlooking the river running over rocks. What a wonderful sound. I sat out as much as possible and read.
It is good to see everyone. Mavis, thanks for being the look out for us. Lucy, my kids are 15 1/2 and 12. They are very responsible and stay by themselves but are also busy. My husband works every other week end and is off 3 days one week and 2 the next week so he is home some of the time. My son who is the 15 year old has a couple of mowing jobs and I always leave them a few "chores" to do. Outr church is having Bible School this week and my son will help with that and my 12 year old will attend. They are also going on a youth mission trip to Slidell, La in a couple of weeks and them to music camp with their youth choir. My son will start Football practice sometime after that as well. so all in all they are pretty well occupied. I am basically self employed so I can be flexible with my schedule if needed. Of course, if I don't work I don't get paid so I have to make sure I balance that out. That is probably more than you needed or wanted to know but maybe that answers your question from June 3rd post. Romeena, thanks for the peach ice cream!! Hey to SPOT, Buckeye, SPOT, Millie and the Deputy, Horatio,Warren and everyone else. See you all later. Big Maude

Happy Sunday Porch,
Went to preachin' this mornin'. We had a guest preacher who's in charge of high school, so he tended to gear toward them. He just graduated from seminary and he already has a job in the 5th largest church in the US. Anyhoo, he was saying that though we should read our bible, go to church, tithe, and sing Christian music we should do it for our relationship with Christ; not so we'll get anything in return. Just thought I'd share.
MDC- Hubby and I watched the spelling bee. That was amazing! Those last 4 kids were wonderful. They have a God given talent for sure.
Warren- I haven't seen too many of the colored eps since I do not have cable. I'm about to order the box sets little by little and then I'll be able to tell you. PS. I'm not a huge alternative rock fan, but I do like Pearl Jam and U2 in that genre.
Buckeye & Ro- Thank you for the ice cream.
Mavis- I love that episode too!
Rev- Are you going to be able to take it easy soon? Do you travel all over the country or primarily in SC? What happened with the live album?
Big Maude- Sounds like things are busy and organized. In some ways its nice when the kids are older and can take care of themselves.
I need to finish my paperwork. When I was gone I don't think anything was done!
Talk to ya later!
Blessings to you and yours,

Warren, is Pearl Jam STILL around?! Ha. I am really out of the loop, I'm afraid. Has anyone noticed that the lead singer of Third Day sounds like the lead singer of Pearl Jam (Eddie somebody or other, I think?). Help me get straight on this, Warren because I am really clueless when it comes to popular music. As far as Warren episodes, I think I like the sleep-walking episode. You asked what our favorite season and I have to say season 4. It had some great eps like Opie the Birdman and The Remshaw House.
Hey, REV, good to hear from you anytime you can drop in.
That's right, Lucy. If our motive for serving the Lord is wrong, we are just practicing "religion" not simply loving God. Thanks for the reminder.
Maude sounds like your children will be very busy this summer, that's good. I am leaving tomorrow to take mine camping with a friend of mine, her three kids and her grandbaby, Leyla (who is 7 months old and sweet as a sugar lump). Might not be much of a vacation but should be fun..we are staying in a cabin instead of a tent like last year (when it rained and the tent flooded, and we had to flee in the middle of the night!). We will still have a fire at night and grill steaks and burgers on the grill but that is about the extent of the work involved. Mostly we will be in the river. I bought this great float at Sam's Club (do ya'll have those...they are kind of like Costco). Anyway, that float is like a recliner for the water, unbelievable, even has a drink holder. That's where I will be spending alot of time!
Millie, is your restraunt open on Sunday?? I am thinking it is since we haven't heard from today. I will look up my recipe for the pie you were interested in. I know you mix cream cheese with sugar and then add whipped cream (I use cool whip). You line the bottom of a pie crust (plain or graham) with slices of banana, add the cream cheese mixture and then top with blueberries or blueberry pie filling. It really is good. I think the next time I make it I am going to try adding Eagle Brand to the cream cheese instead of sugar to make it richer. I make a really simple but good lemonade pie using Eagle Brand, too if you are interested.

Howdy, all. Boo, are you going to the Frio? Has there been enough rain to make it fun? Rocky, lots of walking, not much fun when the rain hasn't come. Once we were there when there had been too much rain, and the river was seriously flooded. A float trip that normally took nearly two hours took us only twenty minutes! What a wild ride!
Here's an Eagle Brand milk recipe that's fantastic. Don't try to use the lowfat version, it won't work. Anyway, take the labels off two cans and submerge them (unopened) in water in a deep pot - at least an inch of water over their tops. Bring to a boil, turn down and let the water simmer actively for at least two hours. Turn off heat and leave the cans undisturbed overnight, or until completely cool. DO NOT open them if still warm. Prepare your favorite pie crust, or use one of the prepared cookie crusts. Open the cans and spoon the brown and caramelized milk into the shell - it will be thick - and top with your favorite topping. I use real whipped cream. You can't imagine how good, and how rich, these pies are. You can vary them by adding a layer of sliced bananas, pecans, strawberries or whatever you wish. Oh, mercy! They are good!
Well, gotta run. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Hello to everyone.
Warren, I think my favorite Warren Ferguson episode has to be The Legend of Barney Fife where Warren hero worships Barney.
As for music, I love it. Not only do I enjoy listening to music, but I also enjoy getting out my Fender electric and play along. It's a great way for me to relax.
I'm more into the country and rock n roll artists from the 50's through the 90's. About the only current group that I listen to is the Barenaked Ladies from Canada. For those not familiar with them, to hear or view a sample, click here. I played in a band for six years, and also taught music at a local music school. I thank my parents for getting me started with music lessons. Everyone should play at least one instrument. I play three.
As for funny TAGS moments, that would apply to every episode Barney appeared in as far as I'm concerned. But I do have a favorite non-Barney episode; "Gomer Pyle USMC". That's when Andy takes Gomer to join the Marine Corps. Watching Gomer act so innocent and say the wrong things, and Andy giving Sgt. Carter the wrong impression about Gomer is priceless.

We had a good time visiting with each other too tho. Have to go back today after I finish with my dogs & finish up. Mornin' Porch,
Its kinda quiet here, except the birds singing outside the window. The temps have cooled down a bit so we're able to open our windows again. The birds were chirping away at 6am! That wouldn't be so bad if I had gone to bed before 2. When we had some repairs done on our apartment we asked to have our blinds fixed. They just changed out the blinds, which should have been a nice thing, but our old ones were metal blinds and these are like plastic. The sun comes in bright and early right in my face. I think I need to listen to Benjamin Franklin and early to bed, early to rise. With having summeritis its easier said than done. Do y'all have summeritis?

Wow, Big Maude! That sounds like some kinda good supper. Mind if I just run by and eat on my way to work tonight? Won't be able to stay and help clean up, or I'll be late.
Mavis, I'm just so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. I guess I didn't know how blessed I really was, but my brother and I had no problems at all. When my mom had been gone about a year, my dad realized he needed to move to an assisted-living facility and didn't argue about it at all. After he chose all the furnishings and everything else he was taking with him, my brother and I went through the house and divided everything up. I would choose an item, then he would choose, and so it went. We only hit one impasse - we each wanted my mom's collection of china angels. My sister-in-law (perceptive woman) settled it when she asked my brother if he really wanted the whole set, or was there one particular angel he wanted. There was, I was happy for him to take it, and I took the rest. Neither of us had room for much of the furniture, but we easily divided up what we did want, and passed the rest on to our kids. As for the money division when my dad passed four years later, my brother and I were named as co-executors without bond, the will specified even division, and that's what happened. There was rental property. Two of them were of about equal value, and one rental was much smaller. We each took one of the big houses, I paid my brother half of the value of the small rental, and kept it. I have both houses, big and small, leased and it provides income for me. I've always been grateful that my brother and I could work things out so smoothly. Obviously, it's not always that way.
Well, gotta go clean the pond filter. So far, that UV filter hasn't done any wonders, but I guess it just takes time. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena
