We talked about it in therapy today and I guess I realized that I still have some real anxieties in that area. I know I'll be ok. Just thought I'd pop in to let you know that I am still alive, even after receiving my gas bill. It actually wasn't as high as I feared it might be. It wasn't as low as I hoped but it wasn't in the thousands so I am at least glad about that. It came to around $685. Blecch!
The funny thing is that it said it is due by June 10th. Isn't that nice?! They haven't sent me a bill for a year but then they expect me to pay the whole amount in two weeks?! I'm kidding; there was a thing on the back about arranging payments if need be, but June 10th is still early for a due date when so much time has passed.

Boo, I'm glad you are feeling better. Don't be too hard on yourself, ya hear?! :)

Me-They, I don't know if I even have a favorite current tv show. Probably the closest I could get to that would be Survivor, since we watch every season of it. All time favorite show, after TAGS of course;), would be Mama's Family.

We have another person coming to look at the house today, so wish me luck that they like it enough to buy it.

June 01, 2006 - Msg 38553: Hmmmm. My favorite current TV show? That's tough, because there re so few choices. Just not much on TV these days that's worth watching. I guess it might be "Animal Precinct", the one about the New York ASPCA police officers. That gutsy little blonde, Annemarie Lucas, is a hoot. About 100 pounds soaking wet, and she takes out the bad guys like she was a big gorilla. Somebody abuses an animal, and she doesn't quit until she's got 'em cuffed and booked. I love it.

Favorite old show? Lots of those. "I Love Lucy", of course. "The Munsters", "The Addams Family", The Beverly Hillbillies", "Gilligan's Island", "Dobie Gillis", and a real favorite "Leave it to Beaver". I loved Ward Cleaver's solid good sense in his handling of the two boys, and watching June clean house in her pearls and high heels was just too funny.

Well, I see my handyman friend in the back yard - he came to put in an electric outlet, so guess I'd better go. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

I am going to have a hard time coming up with a current TV favorite. I guess it would either be Super Nanny or Dr Phil, although I used to like Dr Phil alot better when he first started his show. It is starting to become more "sensational". My favorite old TV program would have to be the mini-series Jesus of Nazareth. I also loved the "A.D." series that came out in the 80's about early church history. Anyone remember that one?

Better go, taking the kids to a friend's house for awhile.

Again, thanks for your prayers for my parents. Mom is certainly getting better each day and so is Dad. He actually came to me today and told me he loved me and appreciated all I do for him and that he didn't know what he would do without me. How sweet that was coming from him.

On the History Channel, I watch documentaries about historical events from ancient times up through the present.

On the DIY (Do-it-yourself) Channel, I learn how to make my own repairs, as well as remodel and rehabilitate my real estate properties.

On the Animal Planet Channel, I watch documentaries about all kinds of mammals, animals, insects, reptiles, etc. They also show real animal cops answering animal cruelty complaints and conduct investigations to identify and prosecute the guilty. I also watch home-made videos of animals doing funny and strange things.

On the Discovery channel, I learn about expeditions and discoveries on land, inside the earth, on water, under water, and up in space. This channel also offers some great science and medical programming as well.

On the Military Channel, here I learn all about military history throughout the world. It provides me with the best way to learn about the horrors of war without having to experience it.
On Court TV, I learn about real life criminals commit crimes. I also learn how law enforcement conducts scientific criminal investigations to imprison the guilty and free the innocent.

When I have the time, I also watch TVLand to view reruns of some of the sitcoms I grew up with.

To Boo, it seems that you have regained your composure. I'm glad others were here to provide you with support and advice.
Doesn't your therapy staff offer contact information for such occasions ... either with staff or other patients?
Regarding that tender moment with your father expressing his love for you, don't that make all the hardships worthwhile?

They did not help Bryson with his sensory integration, although his is extremely mild, but it wouldn't hurt anything to try. There is a stool test to determine whether or not Sean has a yeast problem through Great Plains Laboratories or Metametrix Laboratories. The most common supplement is a probiotic to cure. You can get probiotics through yogurt (try to do only Stonyfield), but Candex is the best for yeast only. For a prescription there is diflucan, but I would try not to go that route if at all possible. First, take the test to see if Sean needs anything and if so try Candex.

It seems that two young ladies were in an auto accident, and one died, one was critically injured. The accident was very bad....they told the girl's parents....and after five weeks they found out they had the girls' identities switched-the parents of the girl who is dead have been going to the hospital everyday, and it's not their kid...she died. The other parents, who thought they had buried their daughter 5 weeks ago now find she is alive. Really an amazing story. I can't imagine! Prayers for them. They looked a lot alike,plus with facial swelling,broken bones,etc.,I guess the parents had no reason to believe it wasn't their daughter-especially since she'd been "positively identified." That is a story with a myriad of emotions,for sure.
I see we are naming old and new favorite tv shows-hmm,let me see. For old shows I am a big "Leave It To Beaver" fan. I also like Match Game and Password. As far as new shows I love watching "It's a Miracle" which is on the Pax channel nightly at 10pm. (also called the Independent Network). It chronicles real life miracles-anybody else watch it? Richard "John Boy" Thomas is the host. If you believe in angels or miracles you will love this show!

June 01, 2006 - Msg 38575: Millie, my sister told me about that story today. How sad! Something very similar happened to some good friend years ago. They had a daughter who was a highschool senior just getting ready to graduate. She went out one evening with 3 friends and they were hit by a drunk driver on the way home. The police came to my friend Ann's door (her husband was out of town) to tell her that her daughter was in an accident and was at the local hospital in critical condition. When she got to the hospital and was escorted into the ICU, it wasn't her daughter and she knew that 3 of the 4 girls in the accident were killed. They took her immediately to the morgue instead to identify her daughter's body. How horrible is that? The poor woman. She is very strong, though and has done as well as anyone can in those circumstances. She and her husband visited not long ago and she was (and always was) the picture of grace.

Poor Horatio, you are right, Dad's words made it all worth while. Regarding the couseling, my therapist always tells me to call him anytime but I just didn't want to bother him, I guess, so I tried to work it out myself. Probably should have just called, right. I think when I know him better I will feel more comfortable calling.

Lucy, thanks for the prayers and the advice concerning Sean. I will certainly pursue that. I have never heard of Candex but am assuming it is something I can get over the counter if we need it. I really appreciate the information and I think that what he eats sometimes affects his symptoms so maybe that will help.

I really feel for you, Me-They. It's hot here but we have air conditioning. We have had alot of rain for about 3 days, though so it is pretty cool for June. Why don't you try what MDC's grandmother did and wrap yourselves in wet sheets and sleep on the porch? haha Wasn't it your grandmother, MDC?

It is simply impossible for them to be still. The older one is a "cleaner" and every throw in the house has been folded into a little wad and placed on the back of a chair. The throw pillows are neatly stacked, all knicknacks are lined up in tight formation along the backs of the tables. Toys are scattered everywhere, but MY stuff is neatly arranged! His daddy was the same way at that age, and to this day he can clean house better than most women, and is willing to do so. His wife says that's why she married him! Anyway, it's the boys' bedtime, and I'm glad! Tomorrow is another day.

Hey, today I came across an old Betty Davis movie on AMC called, June Bride and guess who was in it? Thelma Lou! She must have been in her teens and you'll never believe what her name was in the movie...It was Boo. She was the cutest thing.

I had better go to bed. Sean's school is having a booth in the local festival this weekend as a fund-raiser and tomorrow at 9 I am scheduled to start making Shrimp Kabobs! Yuck! I did it last year and got shrimp juice all over me. Oh well, its for a good cause.

You're only going to be off from 6 until 2, then another 16 hours at work? I don't know how you do that. First of all 12-hr shifts are quite enough, I just can't do 16s anymore. I used to, but no more, and I need to be able to get 6-8 hours of sleep between two 12s. Unless you have no driving time at all, you're not getting more than four hours. That's hard on your ol' bod, friend.

Well, my ultra-violet filter came in yesterday afternoon, will be getting it installed this morning. Everyone at the store tells me I'll be amazed at how quickly and completely the water will clear up. We'll see. It had better, because it sure is a mess right now. Can't see the fish at all, I'm just hoping they're still in there! Old Sam would be appalled!

Ro, I don't know how you do the night shifts. I did that for 10 years when I was young but the other night when I stayed up all night helping mom at the hospital it nearly killed me! I am really starting to feel my age. It took me about 3 days to recover from one night of lost sleep (talk about body aches!). Hope your ultraviolet filter works.. Grading those tests does sound like it might be fun. Hope they continue to use you and the extra money must be nice.

They call it a "test bank" and instructors go there to pull out questions for tests they're giving. There are several hundred questions, and an instructor may be only using ten or twenty, or whatever the occasion calls for. I'm just making sure there aren't any typos or grammatical errors, also reading for content to be sure it makes sense, no confusing questions or, in the multiple choice answers, no too-obviously wrong answers that would make the choices too easy. Also watching for what I call "what ifs". You'll remember those. It's the questions that someone with a little medical background, like an EMT, could dispute with a "what if" situation, an exception to the rationale. Yes, it has been fun, and I hope I'll get to do more of it.

I've about decided I need to bite the bullet and go get a bigger pond pump. The one I have is on the bottom of the capacity requirement specs, and it has more of a load than usual, as I use a pre-filter, as well as an in-ground biological filter, and it has to push water up through the boulder to make the fountain. Since the ultraviolet's effectiveness is in direct proportion to the volume of water that passes through it, I think a bigger pump would boost the effectiveness considerably. Gonna call the Water Garden people and get their input. (They sell pumps. Wonder what they'll tell me? teehee)

Grandson almost fell in the pond earlier, I doubt we'll get through the weekend without at least one of those occurrences. At least it's not over his head, but I'll bet he'll dislodge a lot of water lilies by the time I get to him! Oh, my lotus has a bud on it! I can hardly wait for it to open. It's a dusty rose, or is supposed to be. Should be beautiful.

Update: Bryson's doing well with spending the weekend with hubby, not playing with Lucas, and being out of school. We're going to add Lucas next week to see if he's the culprit. We're still waiting to see if stepchildren are coming out. SD still doesn't want to b/c she's supposedly scared of us. My Mom said with all of the lies she's told she should be scared. Hubby and I both told her that everythings fine, so we'll see what happens.

BOO and LUCY: Oh, don't feel too badly for me in the heat. Don't get me wrong, it can get mighty miserable, but when you consider the hardships that so many people on this earth like with every day it doesn't even register on the scale. Still, its been on our wish list to add central air to our home for several years. We have forced hot air heat, so have some ductwork, but not enough. Since we live in a small, old house (about 120 years old), it will be a little dicey fitting more ductwork. But the Mrs. (who's very preggers and can't take the heat anyway) has hinted that I will be the only one suffering through the heat like this again next year (of course she was joking, ah, weren't you? Honey? Hon--ey!).

ROMEENA: That "side" job sounds neat. The Mrs. has helped out an attorney friend of ours a couple of times. She consulted on the medical records. She really enjoyed it and once the kids are all in school is thinking about going into legal nursing consultation. She's very detail oriented and would be great at it.

Your garndson sounds like a boy after my own heart. Cleaning is my thing. Of course, in my case it's less a preference than a compulsion. When I was a kid I would often clean my friend's bedrooms. It would just kill me to be over their house playing in a messy room. Didn't make me more popular with my friends, but it sure did with their mom's.

HOMEMAKER: A question...my brother and his wife recently sold their house in the Maryland 'burbs and moved to boondocks of West Virginia for a quieter, simpler (cheaper) life. Last week they purchased several goats, which they intend on milkinng in the future. They seem to be "up" on the care and upkeep, so to speak, but you can't convince me that cow's milk and goat's milk taste the same. What's your expert opinion? (FYI, they won't be using billy goats but instead will be inseminating artificially, I think).

LUCY: Glad Bryson is doing okay. Prayers continue for your family. If only it all woked out like on "Leave it to Beaver," huh?

SPOT: You're too old for whole milk! I know that your trim enough, but you need to cut that butterfat. At least try 2%--you've cut the bad stuff but it doesn't taste much different than whole. Personally, I can't go any lower than 1%.

I do know that some children with allergies use goat milk instead of cow's milk and that it helps them all the way around. AI (artificial insemination) can be expensive. Most people who do not want a buck of their own will take the goats to someone who can breed them. We have several around us who come to use our buck for breeding services. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Homemaker, do you get payed much to loan out a goat for breeding purposes? I think I may want some goats someday but I don't like the way the bucks smell. I don't think I've ever had goat's milk, but that's not surprising, because I don't even drink cow's milk. Just don't care for milk. I absolutely love goat cheese, though. Plain or seasoned, you just spread it on a cracker and it's goooood! You can mince up a little fresh basil and some sun-dried tomatoes and stir into some goat cheese - whoooeee! Or a bit of fresh dill, a little garlic and/or seasoned salt - delish! For those of us who don't have a goat, I've found Sam's is the best place to buy it. Package is at least twice as big as what the stores sell, and the price is about the same as the small package.

The UV unit has been running on the pond since about 10 a.m. and I don't see any improvement yet. However, it's hot and sunny, and I imagine the algae is reproducing as fast as the unit can kill it. Tonight should give it a chance to start making some improvement. The algae doesn't grow much at night. I declare, that stuff is going to come into the house and get me one of these days. I can see the headlines now - "Algae Monster Attacks Woman."

Tom I hope that is really you saying you will stay. Welcome Sweetly Disposed breakfast is on you in the morning, ask Spot Now for my news, if you can call it that, I have finally just thrown my hands up & said enough of this estate nonsense. I have hired an attorney (like I can afford that) & he tells me so many things that have made my load alot easier. My sister is still being such a pain, seems to think she is owed more out of it than I am, so fine, she can have it, she can have the bills too, I'm DONE! My nerves & health can NOT take anymore of this & after having my 18 year old neice stand & cuss me like a sailor, calling me everything you can think of, I told my sister, she can have it. My sister didn't say a word, either to me or that mouthy neice of mine. So, that is where it is now, my house is safe for the moment & that was my main concern, so I've unloaded all of it off me & put it in her lap, right where she wants the money, but not the headaches. Ya'll keep praying for me tho, it's awful hard to give up on the only sibling I have, but I need my health more than the aggravation.
