Hey to TOM and AUH2O. Didn't mean to rock over anybody's toes.
AUH20: Your story reminded me of this on, which you may have heard before...Shortly before W.C. Field's death he was very sick. The actor lived his life off screen much as he did on screen and was rather contemptuous of "religion." So a visiting friend was very suprised to find him reading a Bible one day. The shocked friend questioned him whether he was searching for answers. "At this point," Field's replied, "I'm just looking for loopholes."

Me-They, why don't you send Ro a family picture? Hope Nora's performance goes well and that she is free from pressure and anxiety. At 5, she just needs to enjoy dancing, doesn't she? I think there is nothing cuter than 5 years old dancing like ballerinas. It must just fill you with joy to watch her.
Hope things are looking up for you soon, TOM.
Wow Millie, you just got out of the hospital on Thursday after surgery? You must be very sore. Hope you heal quickly. Are you eating right? Remember your body needs calories to heal. Make sure you get those antioxidants. Of course, if you are having to depend on your husband to do the cooking you may be getting luch meat and Cheetos (that's what I would get if my husband was doing the cooking!). hehe
I read something funny today (speaking of funny things kids say)...A little boy was listening to his dad tell him the story of Sodom and the dad said, "So Lot had to take his wife and flee from Sodom, but his wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.". The little boy asked, "Well what happened to the flea?!"

Evenin' Y'all!
It has been a nice day here in Georgia.
Spot- Have a nice day at work. Bry's 8 years old. I didn't know until now that you had a son. Is his picture on Romeena's site?
Dixie- I like the steel blue. On GG I think Lorelai's going to give Luke an ultimatum. Logan graduates from Yale and goes to London. I love that show. I have all of the boxed sets and now I'm working on TAGS boxed sets.
Millie- Listen to Boo and eat your antioxidants. Try to eat plenty of blueberries and take echanecia (sp) and vitamin C for your immune system.
Tom- You're in my prayers.
Me-They- Tell Nora to relax, but I'm sure that's easier said than done. Most 1st borns are perfectionists. Hubby is!
Sterling- Shall you change your name to Bob Villa?
Mavis- I thought of you today when I passed a store that only sells bonsai in a suburb of Atlanta. Hope you're doing well.
Fungirl- Hang in there, your on my mind.
Where's Asa?
Gotta get dinner on the table. Y'all take care now!
Blessings to you and yours,

Good (late) afternoon, all. Lucy, about that list, I think you could just about list us all. All God's children may have uvulas, but they all got "trubbles", too. Tom, I'm sorry you're having a hard month. May has always been a favorite of mine, because the flowers are so pretty and fresh, before the summer heat gets to them, but these days I have to work hard to keep that part foremost in my mind. My husband passed away on May 15, ten years ago. That event took quite a bit of the shine off of May for me, but I'm working on it. Perhaps that's why I've gone a bit overboard with the landscaping in my yard - trying to brighten up this time of year.
The hospital just called and offered me at least the first four hours of my 12hr shift off, and probably the whole thing. You can bet I snapped at it like a big old trout at a mayfly.
Two or three weeks ago, I bought two new fish for my pond, a pretty little black and gold fantail, and a lovely pond comet, with a red body and white head. He was the biggest fish in the pond, at about seven inches long. Well, he has disappeared. He's just not there. I can't imagine what has happened to him, unless he died and is beneath the stone slab bridge where I can't see him. Other than that, I guess either a raccoon came in the yard (they do, sometimes) and snagged him, or the hawk that hangs around sometimes may have made a dive and grabbed him. There is no slope for the 'coon to enter the water, so I doubt that's the answer, but something sure got my fish, darn it. Such a pretty little thing. Guess I'll get my night vision scope out and watch the pond tonight for a while, but I really doubt it was a 'coon.
Hey, Me-They, how about sending me a picture of your little ballerina for the album?

Howdy again, porch folks. I'm on board with the prayer time. What a good idea! Spot, I don't know where I am on the porch, do you? I'll be wherever I'm put, I suppose. For a living, well that's a tough one. With all these younguns I've been at home for about 5 years, but now (of all times) I'm pursuing a dream......I'm buying a restaurant. I close at the end of May. Crazy? Yes. But just cuz they keep telling me I'm going to die, I'm NOT going to stop living. I refuse to sit around and wait for tumors. What do y'all think? Some of my friends and family think I'm just in denial.
Millie
May 08, 2006 - Msg 37717:
If being in denial means thinking positive and refusing to give up, then yep, you're in denial! You go right on and buy that restaurant, and one of these days, in about ten years, I'll come and have lunch with you. In fact, we'll just all come - right, porch? Lucy...you are so right about the antioxidants in blueberries. I do a concert tour each year in Maine and I always try to fill the freezer of the motorhome up with Maine wild blueberries. We have serveral fields that we go to each year. They are so good.

In 1996, when I lost my husband, I tried to use it again, but my grief was too heavy, I couldn't sing that one or anything else. The words just stuck in my throat, but I guess they were there in my heart somewhere, because I survived.
Buckeye, you are so right. Our loved ones are there, we just can't see them. If we listen with the ears of our heart, though, we can often hear them. My dad's homespun wisdom, my mom's intuitive perceptions, my husband's wry humor and loving support - I can feel all these things. I quote my dad, I try to think like my mom, and I just outright lean on my husband while laughing at the way I know he would see humor in a situation. Even though they're only gone from us temporarily, Tom, we have these little things to keep us going until we see them again. Isn't God kind? Your loved ones are there for you, Tom, just watch and listen for them - not with your eyes and ears, but with your heart.
Well, off I go. Back pain isn't bad this morning, gonna go pull some weeds. Look out, invaders, here I come! Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Ha! That's great, Dixie..."As for everyone else, maybe they are in denial of God's healing powers.". I think alot of us are in denial of his ability to perform His will in our lives, whatever that is. Like you said, we need to take it one day at a time...
MDC, I saw that episode of Dr. Phil you are talking about, terrible. Hard to think of how much of that kind of thing goes on behind closed doors and we never know about it. Did you ever read any of the books by Dave Pelzer (A Boy Called It, The Lost Boy)? Dave is one of my heros. He travels around and does lectures about how to overcome abuse. He was horribly abused by an alcoholic mother back in the 60's and early 70's. He was finally rescued by his teachers at school when he was about 11, I think. His book, A Boy Called It is a real eye-opener but I never cried so much when I read it. I had the opportunity to meet Dave a few years ago when he was in Corpus Christi and it was an honor. He has achieved so much after what he suffered and is a great role model. Anyway, I thought of him what I watched that poor little boy on Dr. Phil. I pray those kids get the help they need and are rescued from that mother. I sometimes wonder if people like her are beyond reform.
Better go do some laundry!

Boo, you've touched on something that has many facets, and extends into all aspects of life today. There are many, many abused and neglected children, and the systems in place to deal with it are antiquated at best, and largely ineffective. I don't know what the answer is. However, one thing comes ringing through to me. If Dave Pelzer can rise above the horror, and become the man he is today, then why are we asked to excuse the likes of Moussouai, who recently was given a life sentence for his role in the 9-11 atrocity? Seems every time somebody commits some heinous crime, the defense trots out the old "well, he had a bad childhood" song and dance, and we're asked to "understand".
Thousands of children are abused, yet at some point they rise above it and become strong, good people. They don't wallow in their misfortune and take it out on the rest of the world. The pastor of our church when we lived in Springfield, MO, had been abused by his father to the point of injury that required him to always walk with a cane. He was turned over to his grandfather at some point, who simply used him as free labor on his farm. Still, he rose above it, put himself through college, and became a God-powered preacher and beloved pastor. I believe that "childhood abuse is no excuse" when it comes to criminal acts. OK, soapbox going back under the bandstand with the spiders. --Romeena

Hey Boo, my daughter read that book and raved about it. She suggested I read it, but I declined, maybe I better rethink that!
Here is some interesting news, I think I told you all that my daughter is in Ireland, well, my son is in jail. It's been pretty strange I have to say. He is only 22, and has been pretty tough to raise, although I love him very much, (of course!) He is so foolish, he is in jail because of traffic violations. He has driven with no insurance, no license plates...he has had his driver's license restricted where he can only drive to and from work, and yet he shows up at my house for instance on Easter, and you know he has broken the law doing that! Probably, his most serious problem is one time he was pulled over and the police found marijuana in a golf bag in his car that belonged to his friend. I don't know if he is telling the truth about that or not, but he swears up and down he doesn't use drugs, and he never seems to be under the effect of them to me, but what do I know!? He had to serve probation on that, and in one of his other more foolish moments, he was at a bon fire where one of his friends poured gas on the fire, and the can exploded into my son's face! He went to the hospital and received treatment, but was to embaras-sed to go out in public because of how his face looked, (it was bad), so he missed going to probation. He is one of those people you can tell again and again and again, at least call, at least communicate...etc. etc. but he will do what he will do. Well, to make a very long story a little bit shorter...I have been trying to reach him while he is in jail, and he has been trying to reach me, but it just wasn't happening. I knew God was intimately involved in the whole situation, so I figured it was providence, and I would be able to speak to him when God was ready for it to happen. Well, he called me last night, finally, and he said he is doing very well. I couldn't help but think of Otis! (Well, not that my son is drunk in there, but that he seems to be ENJOYING his stay!) He told me he wrote me a letter, which I never received until just now. Here is where you can see God's hand. In the letter he says, "It's not that bad in here. I am staying positive. I got a bible. I couldn't sleep last night.I read the first 14 chapters of Revelation. I was up till breakfast." God is so good. I can only tell you that I can't fix his problems, and I don't believe any other man can, so let's turn to the Expert! Any way, if you have a mind to, please pray for John. He is a wonderful son, who lacks sense. (Recently he stopped an armed robbery in progress at a convenience store!)
Well, thanks for reading all that, I know every one here has so much to do all day, and to care about a fellow porchster's son, well, you all are a treasha!
Here's the lunch menu: ham and cheese sandwiches on the Breadsmith bread, the most wonderful bread made by a local company, potato salad, pickles, a nice tall glass of ice cold lemonade, or the soft drink of your choice, and a tear from the paper towels as Spot likes to say!
Have a wonderful Mayberry Day all!

Good morning everyone! Hey to all on the porch today.
MARY: You have my prayers for your son. Many of us go through a season of "youthful stupidity" between our teenage years and mid-twenties. For some, it takes lightning or jail to snap them out of it. God always knows which to employ. Sounds like your son is on the right road.
ROMEENA: I do intend on sending a picture, just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's on my list.
BOO: Will you do my laundry? They usually come back from Mr. Goss' with ashes all over them. You don't smoke, do you?
SPOT: A mint? Are you trying to tell me something?
All you people talking about God's power, grace and love, I have one thing to say to you: exactillioso!
For all those intesting (maybe I should shout it out)...PRAYER TIME IS EVERY EVENING, 8:55 P.M. EASTERN STANDARD TIME. Join us when you can. Pray a little or pray a lot. Just pray! ("For when two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them" Matthew 18:20.)

I just got home from my errands. I was at Wal-Mart when Bryson's school called and said he has a fever of 100.5 and I need to come and get him. This cold he and I are battling is a doozy. Since I'm married to a N.D. I'm trying to just take vitamins, drink water, and rest. There's the old traditionalist in me that wants some serious NyQuil and Theraflu just to get it out of my system. We'll be fine though. At least I didn't spend as much at Wal-Mart as I could have!
Dixie- I'll talk to you tonight after GG! Thank you for reminding us of God's love.

SOLDIER BOY
recitation by Donna Fargo
The place was the Middle East
The time was 1991
And history threatened to repeat itself
Soldier boy ,oh proud and brave soldier boy
Thank you for the sacrifice
For the willingness to pay the price
You have helped to achieve an honarable and lasting peace
As the angels camped around you
And kept you out of harms way
In these times of conflict and uncertainty
You let God be your refuge and stronghold
Til you were finally homeward bound
To the yellow ribbons all around
To a heros welcome home soon
Thats the prayer we prayed
God blessed you good
Kept you safe and sound
NOW ,welcome home
Folks this recitation was on the wall of the Donna Fargo Room exhibit at The Mount Airy visitor center ,I really liked it so I called up there the other day and the ladies there sent me a copy in the mail ,nicce folks in Mt Airy, just like in Mayberry .I hope everyone enjoys it

Ya'll know how much I LOVE working on Saturdays (insert sarcasm & lots of eye rolling there) well, ya'll also know I worked last Sat, & missed that wonderful breakfast Big Maude made, that in itself was bad enough. AND, ya'll also know how hard it has been on me to pay the bills since Mom passed away, another reason I am working on Sat. Well, anyway, I pulled up to the lady's house I was scheduled to be at on time, I had the Blazer, (the car is still in the shop), haven't had the money to get it back out yet. She promptly tells me (now get the nerve of this woman...) "Well, you ain't doing too bad, you got a new car!" I almost fell out of the driver's seat! Her husband follows that with "What'd that run ya? $14,000? I see why you went up on your prices I tell you, I was so surprised, I didn't know what to say! Then it made me mad. The Blazer belonged to Mom, I HAD to take over the payments on it & as long as I am making payments on it, I might as well use it, but WHY should I have to explain myself to ANYONE. And the reason I went up on prices was NOT to pay for new vehicles, it's because gas went up & I use alot of gas driving from one house to another! Can you believe people??
Sheeww! Thanks for letting me get that out, it's really been bugging me since Sat. Don't know why, but it just has! Wonder how many other folks are thinking that?

All of you who joined in prayer last night, thanks. If y'all don't think it too overbearing, I'll keep reminding until we get into the habit.
Oh, I have a dilemma. My daughter came home yesterday and told the Mrs. that the girl who she has played and been good friends with all year told her that she doesn't like her anymore and doesn't want to play with her. We have known something was going on because for the last month or so because the girl has been playing with another little girl at recess and telling our daughter that she'll play with her "tomorrow." Well, now Nora is sad, and it's heartbreaking. The little girl has a brother in the same class and a while back one of the other mothers was telling my wife that a similar thing was happening with the boy and her son. I know that things like this are going to happen, but we're not sure how to handle it since this is a first for us (Nora is our oldest). To me, it tugged at my heart but I didn't think it was that big a deal. My wife and I were talking and she was telling me that I was thinking of it terms of how boys are, not girls. She seems to think that girls, in general, can be more cruel to each other than boys. Any advice from you seasoned pros?
Have a great day!
